These are probably some of the best tamales! We got ours frozen to take home as we're packing my grandmother's house to move her to California. We didn't have much time, so we got a bunch of different kinds to try them throughout the day. The place is easy to find and I liked the inside as well as the patio area. Employees are friendly and got everything we needed right away. As for the tamales, so far we tried the Santa Fe, Santa Cruz, New Delhi, and Tahiti. They have all been delicious! I'm actually sad I only discovered this place right as we were leaving Tucson... Boo. Well, if I ever pass through, I'll be sure to remember this place! And I'll probably dream about those New Delhi tamales every night until then...

I had heard great things about this place and I wasn't disappointed by the tamales! I got two different tamales and they were both delicious. The service was fast, we got or food very quickly. The only thing that I didn't really like was the sides that came with the meal were very small. I was expecting more than a small cup of rice as a side! Other than that it was awesome. I would def go back!

Really good and fresh. A big variety to satisfy all tastes. I will certainly be back to try the other offerings on the menu.

My friends met me here we were all new customers. What a tasty adventure. We had so much fun we stayed almost 3 hours. There is a Groupon out to bring new customers in. I had Paela tamales, black beans that rock, great salsa variety it couldn't have been better. We all agreed this was going to be our meet and greet place. Had a little vino and enjoyed the warm staff. They were happy to hear us rave about the food. They didn't give us the your finished now, give us our table back. It's self service all the salsa you want, chips are extra, very fresh and good. I plan on being a regular at this location on Oracle. My friends are vegans and there were so many options to choose from. On Groupon is "The Tamale Factory "$11. For 22.00 dinner for 2. same center as Macayos mex food, but way tastier less costly.

My boyfriend and I love this place and got excited when they had a Groupon, too. One of the first places we ever ate in Tucson and might get it catered for our wedding. I love the Santa Fe a lot. I even liked his Chile relleno tamale and I don't usually like chiles. Pretty nice "fast food" option, quick and not expensive. The beans aren't amazing but love tamales.

Wow! Simple menu with great tasting food! I had the Sonoran chicken tamale (so tasty) and the chorizo burrito(delightful spicy flavor) my two sides were pinto beans and chips n salsa! There was enough food for two! I lived eating outside in the front patio and they had a nice lil salsa bar you could choice your heat and flavor! I opted for the pico and was not disappointed! This will definitely not be the last time I eat here! Get your "yum" on and try it! Best tamales yet!

I have to give this place a "big" 5 stars. I've always loved TT from buying their Tamales at the Farmer's Market over the years. When they opened a restaurant on the North side I was thrilled. Got a Groupon for two meals with drinks of your choice and 2 sides. Beer on tap was super good according to my other half. I indulged in the Margarita made with blue agave tequila. It was a huge glass and so refreshing. . Nice large dining space and even a nice little patio area in front where you can dine outside. Not me in 100 plus temps. The lovely lady who takes your order was great. I even called her "The Good Will Ambassador". She was helpful on guiding you on the sides. The Mexican cole slaw is perfect. The choice of Tamales is amazing. They offer special ones for Holiday, Vegan Tamales, and so much more. Another of my "go to" places that will become a regular.

Yummy...this place is delicious! We stopped in for lunch one weekend last month and can't wait to go back next time in Tucson and order a batch of tamales to be shipped to our home. They are fresh, flavorful and really reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and they have a small front patio that is pet friendly too.

Came to visit on a Sun night and did not get a 4.5 star experience. They were apparently busy early and told us our tamales would be a 20 min wait. When our tamles came out 3 of the 4 were still cold in the center. They were out of two sides as well. Chips and pico were good so perhaps this was a bad night for this crew but at a min this location is inconsistent

Margaritas are amazing! The tamales are good as well. Masa is the perfect consistency and very tasty. Not dry. Great family that owns the restaurant and they treat you like family when you are there. Must go to when in Tucson!

I had never tried theTucson Tamale Company because of the location, but I was missing out! I am so glad they came to my neighborhood, as we went for lunch today. I had the green chile and Tucson, and husband had the Jojo and pork with green chile. Both sets were great! I got the black beans and chips on the side, husband got the black beans and rice. I gave him my beans, as they were not hitting the spot but he liked them okay, and said the rice was okay and nothing special. I suggest getting the chips as a side, so that you can take full advantage of the salsa bar. My favs were the green and pico de gallo. The location is nice, with saucy artwork and a patio. I like the order counter style, where you pay and move on, and then they bring it out to you. We left satisfied for $20.

Super fast service! Every single tamale that I try is just absolutely perfect! This location is great with outdoor seating! Super yummy salsa bar. Best part is two tamales and one side cost me $7.15! You must try it!

I am doing a HAPPY DANCE that we finally have a location in the NW side of Tucson! Tucson Tamale Company offers a variety of vegetarian and vegan options in addition to the meat varieties. Since we are vegan, we stop in here quite often and pick up frozen vegan tamales to have on hand when we are too lazy to cook. We also keep them at our office when we forget to bring lunch or don't feel like going out. Four minutes in the microwave and you have perfectly heated tamales. My favorite vegan tamale is the Bisbee. My other favorites are the Berkley, Boise and Puerto Rico. We dined here the last time we picked up frozen tamales and decided to try the burritos. We were not a fan of the tortillas used; they were not good at all. I don't know where they are purchasing them but they definitely need a new supplier. (Villa's on Ina/Shannon sell tortillas that are amazing hint hint)

This is not your traditional tamale shop. They've done with tamales what the Cornish Pasty Company (in Phoenix) has done with pasties. Instead of your typical selection of veggie, chicken, pork, or beef, you are confronted with a large menu of somewhat off-the-wall tamale offerings. I don't usually like when places stray too far from the classics, but Tucson Tamale does it in a way that really works. The first decision you have to make is how many tamales you want to order. I got two, the correct answer is three. The second decision you have to make is if you want a side. I got beans and rice, the correct answer is no side (or go for the salad to offset the three tamales). The rice and beans were ok, but nothing compared to the goodness of the tamales. The final decision is what kind of tamales you want to order. The correct answer is....probably any of them. I went with the Santa Fe and the Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz was the superior specimen, but both were top notch.

I don't even understand how they are so good! I have tried probably 5 or 6 different tamales (mostly pork/beef variations, but also pumpkin) and they were all almost equally amazing and delicious. This is the only location I've been to, but I've also tried them refrigerated from Trader Joe's and you just can't go wrong either way. Their hot sauce is also the perfect amount of hotness, and they have a great condiment bar! My only complaint (albeit a very small one) would be that they don't have enough menu items! I would love to see more tamale flavor combos, but as long as they keep doing what they're doing, I will continue to come here often.

Loved their Tamales and Red Chili Burro! I have tried almost all their frozen tamales and they are all very good. My favorites are Jojo, Arizona, Tucson and Santa Cruz tamales. Their spicy salsa is very spicy and go well with hot tamales! They close at 8 pm which is a bit early for me. But, their tamales are great and I don't bother waiting for such nice food. I used to get frozen tamales for my out-of-state family whenever I visit them!

Great variety of tamales and salsas to personalize it up! For my first visit here, I had the 2 tamale plate with a side of spicy rice. The red pork tamale was better than the chile relleno tamale. The plate is a good sized portion, and I spiced up the relleno tamale with the salsa bar offerings. This location has plenty of seating inside and a smaller outside dining area. Next time I'm in town I would certainly try to come back and try some dessert tamales! Tamales are availabe for take out, either frozen or not.

Hop on the hot tamale train...there's a new location in the Foothills! Yay! It's in a very convenient location just north of Ina on Oracle. Fresh salsa, friendly smiles, and a variety of tamales. During my recent trip, I got a pack of tamales to go. There is also a nice sized dining area and front patio. Is it a Christmas or New Year's tradition to eat tamales for good luck or something? In any case, tradition or not, get a tamale or three.

I love eating at the Tucson Tamale on N Oracle. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. Try the empanadas, they are delicious! One of the best aspects to this Tucson Tamale is the polite and friendly staff.

  • Rocio W.

Very expensive! 5 dollars for a tamal? With a rice and beans that tasted like ginger? they can fool the americans with those prices but not mexicans. It is way to high. You see..The whole point of tamales is that they are cheap to make so you can feed big families with them. And here they want to sell them like a gourmet dish, estan locos! LOL! P.D. They were too little

As you can see this location is off to a good start with a current five star review. It has more space than the original location but the same fabulous menu. I recommend the three tamale combo with a side for just under $9. There are many great options with a variety of meat, veggie and vegan options. They will even warm up one of the frozen options. You can also get the tamales to go or shipped to your home. My step mom mentioned they were much better in the store though. There is a great salsa bar also to add that extra kick. Our favorite was the chile relleno and least favorite was the curry one. I love indian food but not so much in a tamale. Great fresh tamales that are popping up all over Tucson with their third location open! They also have over 25 different flavors to satisfy everyone.

We bought 3 kinds vegan tamales, frozen. We had to microwave them as we are on vacation and I am away from my own kitchen, but we had a delicious dinner in our room. Even microwaved from frozen, they were really good. We got three varieties for $16, and we had enough left over to make breakfast this morning, too. Good value and delicious. We were determined to eat great vegan food in Tucson. #1 can't be duplicated, which was a gourmet vegan dinner at a friend's home, a guy who happens to be a vegan chef for 35 years, and he teaches at Pima Community, etc. that was amazing. So, too, Food for Ascencion Cafe and The Cup at the New Congress.. And Lovin' Spoonfuls.. And we loved the tamales!

Wandering into this place after a foray into La Encantada was amazing. I ordered the Santa Barbara, Sonora, and Arizona tamales. Although I admit that I have an unhealthy zest for Latin food, I was very impressed with the Tamales. The Santa Barbara especially was delicious with the pork interwoven between seared cheese. Yummy!! The service/staff was super friendly and even allowed me to place an order over the phone which was ready for pick up within 10 minutes! The only downside for me is location but hey I will drive far(10+ miles) for food like this with such a darn good price! Definitely going to become a regular at this stop and try out other menu items in the very near future!!!

These are really tasty tamales and they have a big selection of different flavors including vegan and vegetarian options. I tried a three tamale combo with a green salad for around $9.00. Blue corn and roasted veggie, chile relleno, and yellow curry. The chilli relleno was my favorite. I was a little disappointed in the yellow curry...Veggies overdone and not as flavorful as real Indian curry....but I figured it was a long shot and it tasted fine once smothered in all the yummy salsas from the salsa bar. The salad was small but fresh and had good dressing. Overall the best Tamales I've had this side of the border, and others must agree since they ship them all over the country!

My husband and I bought a Groupon and tried Tucson Tamale Company for the first time the other day. We loved it! The Santa Cruz tamale was delicious, however, somewhat dry (it would have been 5 stars if it wasn't dry). The flavor of the masa and the red chile beef was delicious, but I do wish the meat was a little juicier. We also had the corn, green chile and cheese tamale - this is, by far, the best tamale tried. The staff was very friendly and informative. We will DEFINITELY be eating here more often.

I love tamales and whenever I come to town I stop in here. The jojos are the hot ones red chile the traditional and the chile relleno the bomb!

I don't know what took me so long to eat here but glad I did. Great operation, quick for lunch and of course amazing tamales. Lots of choices and sides are good enough. I liked the Arizona and chili relleno. Black beans and chip and salsa for the sides.

Tamales.... Seriously, who knew they could be so darn gourmet good! At least 12 different interpretations to choose from- a tamale for everybody's taste. We got in right before the dinner rush. The staff was very helpful and patient- with 3 little girls, this was a big plus. I was impressed with how fast folks were getting their entrees. We will be back! We bought a dozen frozen tamales to go as well.

What's not to love about this new location? We went on opening day, and while we did stand in the expected long line, the staff was like a well-oiled machine already and we got up to the register before too long. Freezer packs of tamales were 50% off and there was a free pumpkin dessert tamale with your order. The food was delicious, the owner was there working hard among his staff, and the salsa bar was totally stocked. Nice new feature from the old location! The area was spacious and everyone who wanted a table during lunchtime actually got one. We can't wait to come back and keep eating the best tamales in the world. Honestly, the best! Our favorites are the JoJo (chipotle beef, cheese, jalapeño masa) and the Blue corn (calabacitas, cheese, blue corn).

Picked up the family pack of santa cruz tamales with two sides. Spanish rice was very good black beans so so .the santa cruz tamales are very good.. only issue was one pack was mislabeled and had chicken tamales

We really liked these tamales! There were a lot of options and good sides too. This was our first time having tamales so we didn't have anything to compare it to. Guacamole was below average. Overall the meal was pretty cheap for what we got!

We went here on a Saturday for lunch. The place was hopping. We got a table with no problem. The food was really good. The service was outstanding. I would say the cashier was perky to say the least. We found help with deciding what to get. We dined in and several takeout orders were filled while we were watching. Good food and a clean place. What more could you want. We will be back.

Tried 2 tamales, both with meat filling, one beef and the other pork. Very good flavor, great texture and definitely delicious. Plus they have beer as a bonus so it's worth the stop if you're in the area. Will go back!

Wow! Not a huge tamale fan but this place was absolutely incredible!!! I just moved to tucson and this was one of the places my friends who had lived here recommended. Everything was absolutely delicious and the dessert tamale was awesome too! I will be coming back about once a week!

The tamales were really good, and the empanadas were even better. They also have a nice salsa bar that is great. Their house hot sauce is super delicious, and I highly recommend you pick up a bottle. The dining is very casual, and great food.

  • Jeannie F.

This place was highly recommended. Sadly I was highly disappointed. They were out of 3 different tamales listed on the menu (Saturday morning). Ordered 2 of the different style green corn tamales and not too much flavor in them. Mostly cheese. Service was horrible too. Won't return. Dont recommend. If you want real tasting tamales travel to south Tucson.

Second time at the recently opened NW location. Didn't Yelp it because I was overcome by the awesome tamales awesomeness. I haven't tasted them all, but every one I have tasted is ridiculously good. Nice spacious location for the eat-in experience. For their 6 year anniversary they were giving out pumpkin tamales. Way Cool! Tucson Tamales is a treasure.

My wife and I had never been here before and it was close to home so decided to give it a try. We were immediately greeted upon coming through the door. Wanting to get an idea of specialties or popular choices, Pilar helped out with a great description of the tamales that I was questioning and the best combos to feed my family. I chose the Santa Cruz for the traditional flavor I was looking for. I was not let down! I have found a new placebo get my tamales. I also got the Jojo. This was not too crazy about but was still pretty good. My favorite though, was the Santa Fe. This blew me away. The combination of the pork and green chile sauce was nicely done. The cheese didn't take away from these flavors at all! I was craving the Pozole which in Tucson you would think is easy to find but in most places the quality wanes. This is not the case, which for this type of eatery is VERY surprising. I will more than likely not be eating Pozole anywhere else unless home made. My wife got the green corn which was nicely done as well, and wasn't too sweet as you will find with most places. She also got the Santa Cruz and was impressed by the amount of filling used in ratio to the masa. This held true with all of the tamales. We got the Wisconsin for our 2 year old and wore most of what wasn't eaten. I think he liked it. The bite I had of it was pretty good. On our way out we were greeted by Pilar again with a bag to "take home and try out" saying these were some of her favorites. Not having room to try the chile relleno and the Tucson that were given to try out, I'm curious to see how they are but I'm confident based on the rest, I will not be let down. I'm not only writing this on a full stomach but a happily satisfied one as well. Thank you Pilar and we will be back! That's for sure!!!

Great selection of tamales! So glad they opened this new location in northwest Tucson! This new facility has a nice large area to sit with a few outside tables as well! Today there is a line out the door due to their grand opening specials. You can eat there or buy frozen tamales for a later date! One of my favorites is the vegan blue made with calabacitas (squash) and blue corn masa! Can't go wrong with any of their salsas either.

Delicious, everything I've tried so far has been amazing - especially the thanksgiving tamales. Added bonus that they prefer some organic, vegan, and vegetarian choices.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Stopped in for the first time I'd ever been to any of their restaurants and was blown away by the customer service! The food is fresh and authentic, the layout is inviting! I love this place! It is a must go to!

Great no fuss tasty cheap eats joint. We had the Blue, Santa Fe and Arizona tamales plus the Green Chile pork burrito and had no complaints, just mighty comforting eating. Salsas are great and we had a groovy 70~80s soundtrack to boot.

Tried this place several years. Was the worst tamale I ever ate! The masa was so dry, it was crumbly, not moist as it should be. I've never gone back.

I had the chicken, (I think its called the Sonoran) it was by far the best tamale I have ever had! Very moist and so much taste! Good value for your money, place is clean and well staffed.

Really good and fast service. We stopped in after a little shopping. Ordered a few Tamales and a couple beers. Workers look like they enjoy themselves. A little crowded. We were in and out in 15 minutes.

I'd heard about this place, and when the N. Oracle Road location opened, about 10 minutes from my home, I had to try. We met friends there and made it a point to order different tamales for each of us so we could compare....and they're incomparable! Each was huge, fresh-tasting, and delicious. Easy to order, nice staff, good art on the walls. It's a bit too noisy, but that's not enough to keep us away. If you're coming into town from Phoenix or heading home to there, this is a must stop; if you're a local, this place should be on your list to try. Note: My fellow-diner and I are pretty big eaters, and my two tamales were pretty much more than I could handle while her one tamale left her wanting a bit more, so next time it's buy three and split one for us.

  • Nancy K.

Tucson Tamale makes great tamales but their operation on Oracle Road needs major customer service work. I ordered through catering, two days ahead, an order for a party. The morning of the party my charge card was charged. When we went to pick up the order at the appointed pick-up time, no order was ready. Not only that, they were out of the fresh tamales we'd ordered. Resorting to frozen is not the same thing. And, incredibly, they wanted us to take frozen tamales home, microwave a pack of 3 at a time for 5 minutes-- which would have taken over an hour, and not had us serve the buffet as planned. They were put out to do the steaming there (a 25 minute task). And where was our catering order? Found on the manager's desk, and of course the manager had gone home. Seriously, why have a catering department if you can't deliver the catering order? Manager needs major retraining or replacement.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
