Went for the first time 3 weeks ago on a coupon. The smell was absolutely wonderful as we walked in the door. The bar is big and the bartenders are great. This has now become one of our favorite places to go for happy hour. The portions are generous....had a big salad. The Brissy Burger is delish and the Pulled pork nachos are enough for an army! Highly recommend it if you like good music, tasty food, and a down home atmosphere!

Called a week ahead to reserve the patio for a party of 50. We were waited on by one waitress and an underage trainee. Appetizers took over an hour. We were actually told that the cooks were mad that we had ordered so much. Owner was there but didn't intervene. So we ended up walking out and taking our group to Pinnacle Peak.

The meat was fine a little bland...it all comes down to the sauce and it tasted like cinnamon applesauce mixed with bbq sauce. The mac n cheese noodles were overcooked. The beans tasted like Ranch style beans right from the can. They have R C products to drink. The french fries were good. The menu had quite a few choices. The bar specials looked good. Overall...would not return

This place is simply amazing. There aren't many places I've ate at on this of the Mississippi that compares to this BBQ. If you love BBQ then this is a must come!!! Great food and good service!

The food was great. We ordered the Family Meal and took half of it home (that never happens with two teenage boys!). Great value. On the down side; the atmosphere is definitely a bar and not a family BBQ restaurant. It was loud and tipsy woman came to our table to talk to me, my wife and kids which was kind of strange. Also, the waitress told us "just a minute" and didn't return for long periods of time on more than one occasion. I will be back, but probably order my food to go.

I was really looking forward to eating at this fairly new establishment. BBQ is a real treat for me, tried Ft. Worth, St. Louis, Boomerangs-Southern Maryland!, Holy Smoke-Layton, UT!, chains like Famous D's, El Paso, Lucille's, etc. This place really is a bar, the largest table I saw sits 4. The bar does look pretty well stocked. There were pool tables in a separate room. Outdoor patio when the weather is nice and for the smokers I'm assuming. Parking is ample. Easy to find, looked for the green neon building, as we did not see a sign. Bathroom is clean, trough urinal. After washing my hands, the water for the trough comes on, unusually amusing. There were lots of TVs all around, looks like a good place to enjoy a game. The menu is a double sided 1 page ordeal, 1 page for all the Cue, the other for appetizers, drinks, desserts, etc. Server explained that all the meats are marinated 24 hours! Menu stated meats smoked for 16 hours! That is a whole lotta smoke! My measuring stick for a BBQ joint are the ribs, babybacks. And they usually always come in just under $20 for a full rack, this place is no exception. Sides were slaw and Calabacitas. Also decided to throw in an order of Torittos (Bacon wrapped yellow pepper stuffed with cheese and shrimp). Torittos were delicious. Served with a side of soy? based dipping sauce. All the ribs and seeds were removed so most of the heat was gone. Bacon cooked to a crisp, cheese seemed to be Jack and there was 1 little shrimp inside. The slaw was rather bland, but the Calabacitas had a lot of flavor and was really good. It also had some melted cheese on top which didn't really add anything. Now on to the ribs. The ribs were separated into two smaller slabs as the plate could not hold a full slab and the table probably can't deal with a plate that large either. There was some sauce (mild) slathered on the ribs. Server mention 3 kinds of sauce (varying levels of spice). First rib I tried was the end piece, it really did taste like 16 hours of smoke, all dried out like jerky. Making my way to the middle bones, the meat did have a lot of smoke in it, a little too much. After eating for a bit, my throat felt like I had been smoking a cigar. The meat was tender for the bones in the middle, but still a little dry. Guess this is a problem all Cue places have to deal with, since so much time goes into cooking, and then there is the period of time the food sits around till it is served. What to do to keep them tasting like they just came out of the smoker. Some places have it figured out. If these guys do it, I bet their ribs would be very good.

Considering myself a barbecue connoisseur (I've had barbecue in Tennessee, Texas, Georgia and Louisiana. Not to mention here in Tucson) I believe I have found the place! Last night my husband and I went to The Hog Pit just for a couple of beers, not for food. Turns out the place has new owners. We were brought a sampler plate of brisket, ribs and pulled pork. The brisket just melted in your mouth, like "buttah". The ribs were fall off the bone tender and the pulled pork was luscious. I didn't even try the barbecue sauce until after the brisket and ribs. With out sauce the meat had a real nice smokey flavor but not overpowering. I wouldn't even consider saucing that brisket it was so good on it's own. The atmosphere was pretty kick back and at one point, one of the owners set up in the corner to play a few songs on the guitar and bass. Very nice. This will definitely become a regular stop on our rotation of favorite restaurants. We plan on taking the whole family during the holiday. It's a fine place for children if you go early. Also a good place for after work gatherings as they have a separate room for small groups.

stopped by the Hog Pit friday night expecting some good BBQ the first thing i got was really bad service which happened all night.tryed the angus burger with pulled pork the burger wasnt to bad except i tasted the smoke all night.the sides were onion rings strings maybe you should just make onion rings the way they are suppose to be made yours are very soggy especially with ketchup.the mac and cheese was greasy and had no flavor.the beans were way to sweet and couldnt eat them. my sister had the ribs which were dry almost like they had been under a heat lamp.your BBQ sauce is just plain bad either it was to sweet and your hot sauce had no really good flavor.you would think that a BBQ joint would have a really good signature BBQ sauce that taste good on everything maybe you should work on that.i will try it again and hopefully the new management will get some of these things taken care of or you wont last in this town.

Disappointed. The Hogpit is to barbeque what Skyline is to chili: false advertising. All three sauces are too sweet for barbeque, with a powerful cinnamon/brown sugar flavor. The meat was smokey and tender, but needed a good sauce to fill it out. The cornbread had jalapenos and was a little dry, and the beans were thick and soupy. The atmosphere was great, with a casual setup great for groups or families. And the bartender and waitress both gave good service. The food was pretty flavorful, but a poor representation of barbeque. Try it once and see if you like it - I probably will not be going back.

We came here after purchasing a Living Social deal about a month ago and were totally impressed with the food! We had a sampler platter with ribs, pulled pork and brisket. Each one had a distinct flavor and all of it was fantastic! I disagree about the mac and cheese - it's awesome. The bbq master is new to the restaurant and he has made this place THE best bbq in town.

My girlfriend and I just went to Hog Pit with high expectations but those were dashed. We had two waiters; the first one was very nice and seemed very accommodating but the second one we got was the exact opposite. She did not introduce herself or smile and seemed very annoyed that my girlfriend order a pulled pork sandwich but wanted the bread substituted for a lettuce wrap. I know you go to a BBQ place for the bread and meat but she is having healthy problems and can't have bread at this time. Our waitress was very smug and not customer friendly at all. I asked her how the potato salad was and she said "ok" but didn't really seem to be listening. When I changed my mind and I told heI didn't want anything she still wanted to add it to my girlfriend's order and expressed attitude when we clarified our order. We only saw her two times after this when she brought our waters and my girlfriend's food. We did not see her after this nor did she come back with the check or ask us how things where or if we wanted more water. We finished and waited 15 minutes but she never came back with the check, we left enough money on the table to pay the bill that sadly included a minuscule tip. Overall, she made us feel rushed and that we were not worth her time. Not worth the time or money due to the unfriendly service and mediocre food. I personally felt the food was mediocre due to the service!

Ok, so like my BF, this is strictly based on the service. I'll write another review when/if we return for food. We came here tonight because Mr Boogie Woogie was playing & I wanted to listen to him. We got here at 6:00ish, went straight out to the patio where he was playing & it is now 7:15 and not ONCE did a server ask us if we wanted anything! I would have ordered a glass of wine but they never even asked! I'm sorry, but I don't feel like it should be MY responsibility to flag a server down, especially when they walk right in front of me SEVERAL times!!! Even STOP at the table right in front of me! So, needless to say, IF we come back it will more than likely be the last time I return. I'd suggest going to Brushfire BBQ instead!

    (1)
  • Mike M.

This is JUST about the Service. We came to see Mr Boogie Woogie. We're back on the patio and there are 2 waitresses granted, however the one on our side walked by us probably 15 times. The Waitress never asked if we needed anything. So as I said, the review for now is just about the Service, never got to eat. Reading the other reviews makes me sad. We ate here years ago and it was fantastic. Next time we will hopefully get to eat. Yes we are Groupon people so we have to come back and use it. Haha More to come.

Save your time...money...and appetite. We were in town for work and decided to give this place a shot. Upon arriving it took a server 10 minutes to bring waters, and then another 5 to return for our order. The only reason this review is getting two stars is because of the wings. They were smoked and had a decent flavor to them. As for the rest....well it wasn't good. The ribs had to be cut apart with a knife, the beans were average, the cornbread - dry, the corn - just awful. Before I left I stopped by the bathroom and couldn't get out of there quicker. Disgusting.

Gave this place one too many tries... It used to be good, I don't know if the change in management brought with it cheaper use of ingredients or what? Regardless, bad food and bad service. Our waitress tonight was clearly overwhelmed and I get that but this is the 2nd time I've received bad service in this establishment. The food sucked, too. Pork had bad pieces of meat that were the consistency of rubber and the sauces didn't help. AND I GOT SICK ON TOP OF EVERYTHING. Avoid this nightmare of a restaurant.

WORST FOOD anywhere. I stopped in originally because of A restaurant gift certificate. Pulled pork was DRY and cold. BBQ sauce too sweet. YUK. Management was RUDE. My friends ribs, "Where's the meat." All BONES. SERVICE SUCKS. ROACHES IN BATHROOM SIZE OF HALF DOLLARS. Waitress/ Bartender said, " SORRY YOU DON'T LIKE YOUR FOOD, order something else next time." I said there won't be a next time. She got mad and said, then LEAVE if you DON'T like IT. I'll never come back again. They DON'T KNOW HOW to RUN A RESTAURANT. I'd give it MINUS 5 if I could.

The only way this place seems to get business is either by the Groupons it sells every other month or the 55+ year old crowd looking for live music without having to go downtown. Our party of four adults ordered the Combo that includes a full rack of ribs plus choice of 3 meats, corn, cornbread, and 4 sides. The 4 sides are served in small individual bowls like you get at a cafeteria....this was never explained to us by our waitress. When the food was brought out the waitress slanted the plate and spilled grease onto the hair, back, and chair of one of our female guests. The waitress was apologetic and brought napkins to wipe what she could but otherwise that was it. Our poor friend sat there with bbq grease in her hair throughout the rest of the meal. The friend knew it was an accident and didn't want to create a further scene so she did not throw a fit. We had each ordered a beer with our meal. Do you think at the very least they offered the grease-dumped-hair friend her beer for free? NOPE! Not a beer, extra side, dessert. NOTHING. There was no care for customer service to try to make up for what had happened. When our food was brought out they had only brought out three sides and we had to ask for the fourth. On the drive home we realized they also never brought any corn. So incredibly disappointing. Don't visit unless you are desperate!! The band is VERY noisy. If you want to have any sort of conversation with those you are seated with, request to sit in the side dining room. Sit near the bar and you'll get hearing damage. The brisket was fatty throughout, the sides were super small, and the plastic picnic chairs we were sitting on felt like they were going to snap at any minute. We love to support Local but we'll avoid this place. Brushfire BBQ may be worth the few extra miles drive down Kolb Road

Was visiting a friend in Tucson and we decided to come to this place to eat on Saturday night.... Lord have mercy! Some of the best barbeque I have ever eaten, and that's coming from a Texas resident/native. Ribs are amazingly tender and juicy. Fall off the bone good! Brisket was tender and marbled perfectly. The pulled pork was almost melt in your mouth good! The sauce actually had a taste of cinnamon. Never have seen this before but it's very good. These guys serve up some very good food. Service is TOP NOTCH and I will be making more trips to the Hog Pit in the future!

We loved our visit. The food was excellent and our waitress was very attentive and friendly. We had the combo plate and all the meat had great smoky flavor. The portions were huge and we had enough left over for a meal the next day (for 2 of us). The mac and cheese is great and very unique. My daughter had the sweet potatoe fries and loved them. I would highly recommend giving this place a try.

The Hog Pit is currently undergoing a management change. The last 2 times I have been in (over the past 2 weeks), I have seen a huge improvement in service and cleanliness. Admittedly, I have only had some drinks and appetizers but the prices are great and the apps were one of a kind! They are also adding items to the menu which sound interesting.

I know it isn't a margarita place but geez, we have never been ripped off so bad on a top shelf margarita ever. $13.00 for a lousy margarita. $5.00 for whatever their mix is, $5.50 for the Hornitos tequila and $2.50 for grand marnier and it came in a sippy glass (maybe 4 oz. at best). We were there with a group and it took forever to get this thing. Then ordered a vodka and club and got just club. Took it back; got maybe a splash of vodka in a 16 oz. soda glass. Price = $6.00. Really????? Attention Hogpit Bartenders: Get over the drink prices and quality (or lack thereof). The service was lousy too. Doubtful for a return visit unless maybe be sit at the bar and instruct the poor guy working last night on how to make drinks. In fairness, the food was not horrible but not the best barbecue around.

First, let me start my review by saying I used a Groupon and that Groupon saved me 42% off my meal. Second, let me explain that I use Groupon for new places that I've never been because you're not out of too much money if the experience is horrible. Now for my review: my husband and I ate out on New Years night at the Hog Pit Smokehouse. Our first impression upon walking in was great. It felt warm and comfortable, plus it smelled amazing. There was good notes written in chalk along the celing beams and on the walls from firestations, my old high school Santa Rita etc... it seemed like we were in for a treat! We didn't wait long to be seated, unfortunately.... we were sat right under a TV and that was distracting, but it wasn't bad. Our waitress seemed eager to serve us and that was awesome. We asked a few questions regarding the menu and got some yellow flags at that point. Just about half of the dishes we inquired about did not come with everything that was stated on the menu... like the corn for example. The waitress said that it wasn't because they were out, it was because they didn't serve it with the dish anymore. We found something that would work for us and I belive it was a fest for two. More yellow flags popped up. The waitress said we could order a salad for a side (keep in mind this is suppose to be for two people), so we did and we ordered the onion rings or "pigtails". The meal also came with ribs, chicken and pulled pork. It too was suppose to come with a side of corn, but that wasn't the case anymore. The salad was the fist to arrive from our meal. And when I say salad... I mean one small plate with some lettuce and dried bread on it. The first question was how is this suppose to be for two people and is just getting lettuce with dried bread considered a salad here? The waitress brought us some shredded carrots and a few tomatoes to dress our salad, but we sadly had to order another salad since it clearly would not suit two people. Next came the main meal. The waitress just dropped it off and walked away... there was no offer of condiments, extra drinks or anything else. It would be 10 minutes later before we'd have ketchup for our onion rings (which tasted more like French's fried onions). The pulled pork was good but it was not amazing. The ribs had a good rub in them but they lacked the proper brining to get a good carmelizing on them. In fact they tasted like an amateur try at smoking meat. However, they were not bad just not amazing. The chicken was the killer of the meal. It was dry, crumbly and bland in flavor. It was not suitable for being served to anyone. Needless to say we did not stay for dessert. We were glad after the meal that we used the Groupon, we would have been very upset if we had paid anymore. The prices on the menu were pretty high... $9.99, $16.50, $17.50, so with our experience, the food was NOT worth the price. Now, there us my review. There is just one last thing; I was asked by Groupon to share my experience with the Hog Pit Smokehouse, I summed up this review to say simply it was not worth the price. I received an email response back from the restaurant whom made sure to point out my savings via the Groupon on their food as well as a "do not come back". Folks, that was an opportunity to inquire about what they could have done better and think of this... what diffrence did it make that I used a Groupon? Would the food have been better if I'd used my Master Card or Visa? If do, why bother doing a deal with Groupon? I still had to pay money for that Groupon. Bottom line, the food wasn't that great and I provided an honest review

Okay, so there are no BBQ joints in Tucson that get over 3.5 stars. Unfortunately my bf informed me of this AFTER we ate at The Hog Pit. So, let me begin by saying me LOVE BBQ. Truly. But my brisket was dry and the corn was overboiled and waterlogged. The corn bread was actually Texas toast (per my bf who was born in TX) which was thick sliced Wonder bread with margarine. Inedible. My bf's pulled pork was beautiful, moist and melt-in-your-mouth, the rest was quite unimpressive though the bf's large beer was very cheaply priced. The waitress was sweet and nice, but slow to greet us and take our order. I guess if you want good BBQ, you've got to go to Bobby Q in Phoenix because that is TO DIE FOR! We won't return to the Hog.

Visiting Tucson for the umpteenth time and just now heard of this place, and it was AWESOME! We arrived at 7:30 on a Friday night, and the food was spectacular, serving size was adequate, servers were quick and funny and brought us some extra 'off menu' items, not to mention the beer selection! We ate inside to enjoy some conversation while the live band and karaoke went on outside. Looked like a good crowd though! All in all with a platter and two large beers I got out for under $30, which is far less than other places for similar meals! Definitely suggest it!

The food isn't very good. The bbq sauce tastes like apple sauce. The waitress was very rude and treated us like an inconvenience. But the live patio music was really nice. It might be okay to have drinks on the patio but don't plan to actually enjoy a pleasant dinner.

This place! The food is lovely, best wings in Tucson, best smoked meats in Tucson, just freakin' delish. The sauce is different and perfect, thick, sweet and well spiced. It smells wonderfully smoky without actual smoke wafting about. I would give it 15 stars except for two things, you can't give 15 and the SERVICE IS ABSOLUTELY HORRID. They need two more bartenders. One should not have to wait more than an hour for one's check, especially when they are sitting at the bar. There were 6 requests for the ticket. During this time I was not asked if I'd like something to drink, needed anything else, nada. My friends waited 1.5 hours for a grilled cheese sandwich because the bartender in training really needs to play barback on busy nights. Or they need a food runner and leave bartending to the bartender. The food could keep these folks in business for decades, the service will kill them. I really hope they read these reviews and correct this.

Shared the smoked platter for 2, quite good. Back room a bit chilly and not especially well designed. Very good jazz country live band, louder in the main room. Good and very friendly service. Plenty of food about $30 for 2 people.

  • Jim C.

Pulled pork was good, sauces all tasted the same. Decor was "biker bar, light." Corn bread was, ugh. Smoked platter was over priced and the brisket had just hunks of greasy fat instead of meat. Server talked to us like we were either children or had never eaten barbeque before which was a bit annoying. Probably would not go back.

The only reason this gets 2 stars is because our server really put in a good effort to make our meal better but the kitchen couldn't produce. I used to love this place I heard there is a new owner and I guess I haven't been here since the change. There once delicious smoked sausage has changed to something plain and boring. The first round of brisket they brought out was bottom of the bucket slop. Nothing but large fat chunks and burnt crumbles. Our server replaced it with some better brisket but it was still not up to participate with previous visits to the hog pit. The mac and cheese was pretty much flavorless kraft is better. Hog Beans Where Pretty good. Still about the same as I remember. The pulled pork was mediocre at best. The ribs where undercooked although the rub had pretty good flavor. I still love t heir BBQ sauces. Overall it was a disappointment and not worth the money spent at all. I'm hoping I can change this review later because this used to be my favorite BBQ in town.

The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and welcoming and the FRIDAY Karaoke is a pleasant, fun surprise! I recommend EVERYTHING on the menu... but, the BEST and sweetest part of my visit (besides karaoke) was the LIVE nightly entertainment! FRIDAYS are FUN! AND, and... there's karaoke! I have only one thing to say about that: BRILLIANT! Karaoke on FRIDAY, and LIVE bands EVERY night of the week!! Another BONUS is the full bar! They serve BEER, WINE AND LIQUOR!

Gross. Gross. Gross. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself occupies a great space and has potential to be a cool spot. However, the food is awful. I ordered an inedible full rack of ribs which ended up being a mess of tendon and fat. It's a bummer when you waste a night out on a bad experience.

Went with the family a week ago and it was good. The cornbread with honey butter was a strong favorite with the kids, and everyone loved the brisket, pulled pork and ribs, each was tender and delicious. The service was good, and the place is definitely a good option for drinks and watching a game, without the kiddos of course. While our experience was a good one, I agree with Laura D. that more than likely, the next time we'll take our meal to go.

My wife and I will definitely be returning to the Hog Pit for BBQ! I spent the past 2 years in Texas and really enjoy bbq. I haven't found anything really great here in Tucson, until I tried Hog Pit. Their Ribs and Pulled Pork are excellent!! The Brisket was also very good, moist, and not dry like most places.

Decent BBQ on the NE side! AMBIENCE: 3 stars. It is pretty much exactly what you expect it to look like! Big bar, nice little patio. SERVICE: 3 stars. Friendly service with a smile. FOOD: 3.5 stars. The BBQ is pretty good, the sauce selection is great! I wouldn't say that there is anything that is a must have--but the pulled pork was good!

S'OK... I usually like limited menus but their menu seemed a bit too limited. More chicken and seafood dishes... They were out of the only chicken dish. A shrimp dish would be nice. Maybe a catfish dish? They had lent fish tacos that were too small for the price. The pickles lacked flavor and the sweet potato fries needed a bbq or honey mustard sauce to dip. The bread pudding was D-R-Y. It tasted reheated. The fried chocolate was a bit hit. The chili was all meat and was enjoyed by my brother in law. He was there one other time and had the "pulled pork" but it was more like diced pork. he said it was still good. This place has the ability to be good with a few more options and a little more flavor.

Disappointing. I purchased a deal online to visit the Hog Pit. I should have known right then that they were aching for customers, because the only time I ever find deals for restaurants is if they're trying to drag customers through the door. So my hubby and I ordered the smoker combo platter for 2, which says it consists of: Half slab ribs and choice of (3) meats. (Quarter chicken, pulled pork, brisket or 2 smoked sausage.) **Served with cornbread hushpuppies, 2 servings of corn and choice of (2) sides. We opted for the ribs with pulled pork, brisket and the 2 smoked sausages, plus the 2 servings of corn, mac and cheese, and onion rings. This is our review: Ribs: They were just ok. Not very "fall-off-the-bone tender." Pulled Pork: It was tasty, but a tiny portion, especially for two people. Brisket: It was very fatty. That was ok with us because the fat is flavorful, however, people who are grossed out by fat will be disappointed. Also a tiny serving for two people. Smoked Sausages: Um, no. First of all, it wasn't two smoked sausages--it was one smoked sausage halved lengthwise! (Really annoying when a restaurant is so cheap and they blatantly rip you off.) Also, kinda bland. Corn: It was ok. It was on the cob and we only got one cob total, cut in half. Again, cheap owners! Mac and Cheese: Eew. Just eew. Tasted really overdone and mushy like Stouffer's, and it was a TINY portion. Think of a little bowl that comes with coleslaw in it... but this was supposed to be for two people. Onion Rings: Totally mislabeled. They were haystack onions, and again, a tiny portion. Hushpuppies: Again, no. These were NOT hushpuppies... those little deep-fried balls of deliciousness. This was a nasty, dry cornbread muffin. But hey, at least we each got one to ourselves. The waitstaff was completely confused as to who was going to wait on us, and it took about 5 minutes to actually be sat at a table, despite the place being fairly empty. The waitress was also fairly spaced out and confused during out entire visit. The atmosphere was fine with me. It kind of reminded me of a biker clubhouse. And they had good margaritas. The outside patio looked cool, too, although we sat inside. If you are looking for an upscale place, this isn't for you. But if you are fairly ok with hanging out in a garage-like atmosphere, it's cool. Can't recommend the food though. It's not all bad, but the owners really need to stop ripping people off with tiny portions when you order the combo for two! Better bet would be to just order the combo for one. At least that way they can't cheap out and give you tinier sides. I'm sure the bowls don't get any smaller than what we received.

OK! I'm done here. I like bar b que, so, give it one more shot. $12 for an $8 Brushfire pulled pork sandwich. On a cold hamburger bun. Onion rings looked like a birds nest. And a guy blows his nose into a napkin in th dining room. Tall, dude, long white hair. I think he worked there. Good news... This time I didn't visit the men's room.

Ribs were juicy and sweet, beans were to die for, cornbread was a great balance between sweet and savory. Our family had to order a second order of ribs to share because they were so great and a great quote from our 3 yr old: "this place is AWESOME!"

It was aight. Solid barbecue. Fries were nothing to write home about. Corn bread should be sequestered to its own edge of the plate and forgotten. Ambience is ultra casual; would have expected sticky seats but they weren't (bonus). Good kids meal which kept my little ones busy. Would probably be back only if I had a wicked bbq craving...which I don't anticipate having anytime soon.

I was super reluctant to go here based on the many bad reviews for their barbecue. I had a restaurant.com gift certificate, so basically, anything we ordered would be half off. Decided to go here, and try any food that wasn't mentioned on the bad reviews. We were mostly looking for a place with a fun atmosphere, good drinks, and looking forward to the live band at 5:30. We noticed no one mentioned anything about burgers. So, that's what we ordered. People did give rave reviews for the wings, so we ordered that, too. We ordered the Whole Hog Burger. It's a burger topped with brisket, pulled pork, and cheese. There are multiple barbecue sauces on each table, so you can choose the sauce of your choice and put it on the sandwich. This burger / brisket / pulled pork creation was a melt in your mouth pile of deliciousness!! Very good. We loved all of the meats on it, and the sauce of our choice, just topped it off. We chose the sweet potato fries for a side. These are definitely frozen waffle fries from a store. However, they did try to make them their own by crisping them, and putting a different kind of salt on them. We ordered the smoked Buffalo wings. Great wings!! I've had wings all over the country, and other countries, and these were pretty primo. They are not your standard tobasco over sauced mushy wings. These were definitely smoked, grilled, and have a fantastic flavor to them. I ordered them medium. I love hot wings, but the medium were fairly hot. The drinks, great. My husband ordered Long Islands. They were strong, and he said they were perfect. My bottled beer happened to be on special for $2.50, and it was cold. Great experience for the Whole Hog Burger, smoked Buffalo wings, and the drinks. They knew we had a restaurant.com and didn't cheap out on portion sizes or watered down drinks like other places do. The band playing last night, blew. This is a barbecue joint. It reminds me of places I've been to in Nashville and Memphis. It is a large restaurant and bar. The band was playing songs from the 40's and 50's, very slow songs, Etta James and Louis Armstrong. They really needed a really upbeat rockabilly type of band. The band didn't match the atmosphere of this bar at all. They have different bands every night from 5:30-8:30. The place did get busy around 6pm-6:30. Very good experience for us overall.

I waited a long time to review this place... I hope I remember all the details. LOL We pass by this restaurant all the time and it seems like there is always a lot of customers there.(the parking lot is somewhat full) to me that is a good sign so we finally decided to go. We went in for dinner on a weekday and there was about two other families there. We ordered our drinks and they were brought out promptly. I have to say that our waiter (the only one) was very helpful and on top of it. We ordered some type of sampler plate that had ribs and brisket and a couple of sides. We also ordered a bbq stew, I think it was called, recommended by the waiter who said was really good. So the food arrived and everything looked really good. I went in for a rib and took a bite, and to my surprise, it was not that good. The sauce that was already on the ribs was not good at all, it was grainy and way too sweet, unable to be fixed by the extra sauces they brought. My husband thought the same thing. As for the brisket, it was very dry. The corn bread was very good though. The bbq stew was nasty too. I don't know if we caught them on a bad night or what because they seem to have good reviews. I feel bad for saying this, but famous daves has better ribs.

I took on their eating challenge. They have had over 100 losing challengers and only 1 winner, a small girl who is a top level competitive eater. I am friends with the winner so went there with her to have her watch me try to become the second champion. Which I did in about 12 minutes. The day is mine! Good people. Tasty food. Fun challenge. No complaints. Go here. Eat food. Take the challenge and see if you can become person number 3 to beat it!

I came on a Sunday around 1pm. The brisket was very good. Moist, tender. No need for sauce, but the spicy sauce is smokey and nice. The fries and corn that came with the combo were good too. Sat at the bar and the bartender was very kind. She said the rib eye is good, I'll have to come back and try it.

Very tender ribs - too tender - too soft - almost falling apart - gray color - not tasty. Sorry, I didn't care for it.

Avoid this place. We brought out-of town family here for a "special" treat, and it was awful. At 6pm, this smokehouse was out of pulled pork which is what we all had planned to order and which is part of about half the items on the menu. We ended up with burgers and a chef salad. The burgers were tasteless and dry, and they were cooked on a grill with no BBQ or smoky taste. The quality of meat was lower than Burger King, which would have been a better choice. The chef salad had (obviously) packaged greens some of which were bitter...as was the coleslaw, another side. On the side of the burgers was unripe tomato and limp lettuce along with unevenly chopped onion. The larger burgers had many toppings which disguised the burger somewhat. The only tasty items were the french fries and the sweet potato fries and the glass of water. The server was so nice and attentive that we felt sorry for her having to serve such sub-standard food. When we asked to speak to the manager, we found that he was too busy playing with his band on the stage. I can't imagine that the owners are paying him to manage and play because he is not managing this restaurant or does not know how to do it. The atmosphere is strange with a more or less OK bar area and an eating area that has mismatched tables and chairs and no decor at all. Time for Restaurant Impossible to change things. Needless to say, I will never go back and will tell others to skip this dismal joint.

We went in last week, and the whole staff was so friendly! We decided to have a sampler platter. The ribs were delish! I loved the stuffed peppers wrapped in bacon Yum! The brisket was succulent. We'll definitely go back again for a full meal!

Good food, my family and I got the family feast and we couldn't finish all of it. It claims to feed 4 but there were 5 of us and there was still leftovers. The service was very friendly and accommodating. We didn't get the corn bread that was ordered and told the waitress. Without hesitation she had them ordered and they were very fresh, she even threw in extra. The only negative thing I will say is that they were out of a few items that we wanted to order and that the wait was very very long. However to be fair those are two common things when you have a popular and busy restaurant.

This revue is strictly about the BBQ and not much else. Though definitely a step up from the previous management & owners, but this place still needs a lot of improvement. Basically the BBQ is not of high quality, it isn't totally terrible but not at all great either. The service is poor and unfortunately the servers especially are in the dark about BBQ terminology, hence poor training and I blame the management for that. And one of the servers actually didn't even know the difference between Tabasco & some other kind of generic hot sauce.... Really? Also for a BBQ joint you'd think that they would have plain paper towels instead of tissue paper like napkins that disintegrate on your fingers, making more of a mess right? We only sampled the BBQ on 2 occasions, and for what you get it's pretty expensive and in my humble opinion it's absolutely not worth it. As an example they charge $7.95 for a basket of fried pickles. OK no problem, I'm willing to pay almost 8 bucks for something that's unfortunately hard to find elsewhere around town. But for such a small portion of something so utterly cheap & simple to make it's a total rip-off if you ask me. Probably the best item that we had were the ribs. They were pretty tender with a bit of a smoke ring to them, though I would have preferred more of a smoky flavor. But they had a sweet dry rub which in my opinion isn't necessary to have sugar in the rub, but they were OK ribs just the same. The pulled pork was actually good, with tiny bits of bark mixed in and some good smoky flavor and we enjoyed it. Too bad that they served such a tiny portion of it. The brisket was actually not terrible on my first visit and then actually very terrible on my second, what gives? And as any BBQ snob will agree, a pit master is known by the quality of their brisket any day of the week and regardless of the cut.... Can I get an Amen to that? But the sausage was really, really disgusting - very fatty and of VERY low quality. If you tried to serve this to anyone in Texas you'd get shot at point blank range! I wouldn't feed it to my dog, it was that bad. The corn on the cob was even worse, mushy and almost rotten, no kidding, (How could this happen?). The BBQ sauces come in 3 flavors, not horrible but not great either. Though all of them have a strange spice profile that I couldn't quite figure out, perhaps turmeric or some curry powder? A little strange.... Not terrible but definitely unusual. The beans were pretty bad though, heavy on the chili powder & cumin and sticky sweet, maybe even straight out of the can? Even if they weren't canned they were gross so what difference does it make? The corn muffins were hard & heavy, possibly old? They do have pretty good live music nightly, so it's a nice casual place to hang out, and the crowd seems to be mostly made up of locals and low key ambiance. The owner Les is a really nice, personable & friendly guy, but obviously he can't do everything to make everybody happy. But for Tucson and it's generally low standards for cuisine & nightlife I guess he's doing his best to keep it together and I hope that he succeeds because the potential to be great is there. But after dropping ***$70.00*** with tip for 2 people today and leaving about 25% of our food on the plate that's a poor value, I'm sorry. And you would think that our server would ask why we left so much behind, but she obviously didn't care, and once again that's poor training in customer service. Nor should we have had to try flagging her down more than once to ask for refills of drinks or more napkins. Pretty disappointing to say the least and we probably won't be back. Location: A Parking Lot: D Atmosphere: B Value: D Service: C- Cold Beer: A+ Ribs: B- Pulled Pork: B- Brisket: D- Sausage: F Cole Slaw: B Fried Pickles: B BBQ Sauces: B Beans: F Corn Muffins: F Corn On The Cob: F- So this is why my girlfriend & I make a monthly 200+ mile round trip to Phoenix to hit either Rudy's Country Store or The Texas BBQ House for our real deal BBQ fix, because there just ain't any good 'Q in Tucson, what a bummer!

Vey meaty and well smoked ribs, New Belgium Ranger Ale on Draft. The look of the place is a little off putting but very clean and feels like a sports bar once you sit down. The ribs and corn bread were both excellent and we will go back for those. My wife liked her Mac and cheese. She also liked to Cole Slaw although I thought it and the beans were very bland. The spicy Bar-b-que sauce was OK the others seemed pretty bland. Sign says new management Reasonable priced.

Portions are small and prices are inflated. $12 for a small brisket sandwich and 1 small side. Even with adding a soda, paying for a corn muffin and dessert...i left hungry. Not impressed and won't be back.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Service was quick and friendly, and when I asked for extra lemon with my iced tea I got it, which is unusual for me. The pulled pork sandwich with slaw (Carolina style) was okay. The meat was moist, verging on watery, and the bun was completely soaked before I had my first bite. The sandwich didn't fall apart, but I knew it was about to, so I went to knife and fork. Flavor was all right, but hardly a hint of smoke, which is kind of the point with BBQ. I got a side of beans which were tasty, with lots of meat. Really, they tasted more like chili than BBQ beans, but I did enjoy them. Overall though I just got a sense that they weren't trying super hard to get it right, and with BBQ, that makes a big difference. Perhaps the ribs would change my mind.

This is a biker wannabe bar. Think "Wild Hogs". I believe they have regular "show your HOG" events. Constantly evolving menu. Three weeks in a row and the menu has changed a little every time. Going there tonight. Good Smoked meats. Nice Sauces. LOVE the smoked pastrami, thick cut like a brisket. Brisket is good also. Only negative that springs to mind is they need to have a better, less vinegary pickle for the fried pickles. Vlasic's Heart extra garlic, thick sliced maybe?

Don't waste your time or money at this pit. We were a party of eight last night with six having dinner, two having drinks. Be careful of your health here: One person ordered a raspberry iced tea - she was served unsweetened regular tea. And, when she told the server...the server told her she was wrong!!! So, I tasted it to find it was not raspberry tea. One other person at the table said she had the raspberry tea but ordered the unsweetened tea. What did the server do????? After the drinks were already tasted, she gave each other the drink the other person had. OMG. Disgusting! We didn't know the person at the table with us - we had no idea what she may have, disease wise. I asked for new drinks to be served and had to explain to her that you don't give someone a drink that someone else already put their mouth on. What else does she not have common sense about??? The food was not good. I ordered a pulled brisket slider and half of it was burned and hard. The fries were soggy and tasteless. My strawberry margarita was tasty but the server neglected to bring a straw so the margarita was getting watery while I waited for a straw that wasn't even appropriate for the glass. The meals were collectively below standard. The corn muffins were dry. The decor was unappealing. The lighting was so offensive that it hurt our eyes. The server was asked to put the NASCAR race on by one of our party members since there were no other customers nearby and the server never put it on. He asked again and she said she didn't know how to work it - so, you just ignore the customer??? It was finally put on as we were leaving. It was total incompetence the entire meal. Our family was in the restaurant business and always give servers extra slack but this was ridiculous. Don't go here. Service and food were bad.

Nothing to write home about. My husbands brisket tasted more like dry roast beef. My Mac n cheese was grainy and over cooked. My ribs were fatty and really disappointing. Much more worth it to drive to Famous Dave's across town. Total bummer.

THIS AIN'T THE SAME HOG PIT. New ownership has made a world of difference. The team here smokes all their own meats and they compete in cook offs nationwide. They have won several awards for their meats and bbq. Everything I have had, including the non-bbq food, is amazingly good and service has always been great. I like that you add the sauces yourself. so many other places put so much sauce you can't taste the meat. Also important to remember smoked meats look different than traditionally cooked - so to see pink color does not mean it's undercooked. Many people don't know that and think it's rare - not true. You will notice this w/smoked chicken and burgers. I planned my adult son's birthday there and got amazing service. It was all set up, ready on time and exactly as we requested. It's a great place for families but also for weekend happy hours, drinks, playing pool, watching the games, hanging out or the entertainments and live music on weekends. There is something for everyone and people of all ages - it just depends on what you want and what time of day or day of the week you go. It gets loud on weekends later in the evenings, but that's because people do go there for drinks/sports/live music, etc. They do it all, so it's up to you to pick what works for you - what experience you're after. It's a casual, comfortable, family run place. If you're expecting 5 star, white glove service then go someplace else. If you want to let your hair down, be relaxed and feel welcomed, then go here. ;)

The band was great, the food not so much. There bbq is pretty heavy on honey flavor, I would have liked more smoke and complexity. But it was just kind of meh. The sides were boring, and the waitstaff absent. My husband for some reason ordered the steak, which was completely underwhelming. The seating was uncomfortable, but at least we were able to eat in a room separate from the band. The band was really good, but I like to be able to not have to scream over live music to talk to my dining partner...it's a thing I have. That was nice, we could hear the band but weren't so blown back we couldn't enjoy it. We would go back again, but it would be for drinks and music.

I love bbq and have my own smoker and have a high bar for Q. Sadly this place did not come close. I asked for sauce on the side so that I can taste the meat. I think all bbq places, the meat and rub should be able to hold up by itself. Sauce optional. The sauce came on the meat. But that said I still got to try the meat (the parts without sauce) and it had no flavor. I got the ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and sausage combo. The ribs fell off the bone but I could barely taste the smoke...I could barely taste anything for that matter. The meat felt wet. Not moist but wet. Almost waterlogged/steamed/boiled. Not sure how they achieved that but I've never seen it before. The brisket was tender but lacked flavor, just like the ribs. The pulled pork was good, if I go back this is the only thing I would eat. The sausage is sausage - hard to mess up. Our server was great, the bartender was cute. The atmosphere is like biker bar with a tinge of surfer wrapped in Disney packaging with tones of neon emo coloring.

My husband and I have eaten at the Hogpit a few times and we've never had a bad meal. The ambience is casual and cozy and the prices are reasonable. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. My husband's favorite is the sausage and my favorite is the brisket sandwich. Both are pretty amazing! They also have the most interesting men's room I've ever seen, lol. My friends made a point of dragging me in there to see it.

This was my first visit, and for the service and value I won't be returning. The waitress seemed to be in a hurry to seat us and take our order. When one of the members of our party had a food allergy our waitress refused any type of substitute for the side. Then she forgot to put our drink order in, and refills were few and far between. I am very understanding of the food service industry, as I have worked it in my younger years. The restaurant being nearly empty, I could see no reason for the slow and in attentive service. The food was good, nothing special for their award winning claims. It's a decent BBQ place, I saw many people picking up take out orders, and perhaps the service was the reason. I would probably order for pick up as we were able to sample all of the meats and they were pretty good, but would not recommend eating in.

Seriously the best BBQ it Tucson. I've had BBQ from Arizona to North Carolina and this is the best. For the Super Bowl we decided to buy three four person family feasts for eight people thinking that would be plenty of food based on the portion sizes we usually get in restaurant. Wrong! $180 got us portions that were almost half the size of what we have previously had and they forgot to include the corn on the cob and corn bread. That meant another 40 minutes round trip to pick up the missing items! That issue aside, I dream about their BBQ sauce and would buy it by the gallon if i could, and their staff is the best! I'll keep patronizing the Hog Pit and recommending it in spite of this recent experience.

Extremely disappointed. Came here with a group of four people and all of us were disappointed with our meal as well as the service. It was clear that our server did not want to work that day. Meat was very fatty, sweet. Sides were forgettable. Will definitely not be going back. Ever.

4 of us ate there last night. Ribs, tasty and fell of the bone tender. Chicken, great taste and still moist. Brisket, a bit over done and dry....a little sauce cured that. Sweet potato fries, terrific. Cole slaw, a bit to sweet for my taste but good. Good atmosphere, good band playing on the outside patio. Worth the $$.

Great place to watch the game, especially if you are a Cleveland Browns fan and staff is very friendly! Tried the ribs and pulled pork, along with a crazy concoction called the hoof (bowl of pulled pork topped with beans topped with mac-n-cheese topped with coleslaw) Overall the food was A-OK, but nothing was really mouthwatering or worth drooling over.

Tried this place out for the first time tonight. Took 30 minutes for us to get our food. During the entire dinner we saw the waitress twice with only 1 drink refill we had to specifically ask for. The food was not good. Ordered the beef brisket which was 90% fat. Waste of money.

  • Bill M.

There was nothing at all resembling brisket on my platter! I swears to gawd, it was pot roast sliced and served as wet, 60% fat brisket. Out of the 9 oz of meat, probably 4 oz went back as inedible fat. Horrible BBQ sauces, cole slaw tasted only of cabbage with slivers of carrot mixed with mayo - no seasoning. "Smoked" Chicken Wings were OK. Green salad was the Spring Mix from Costco, I'd say. Wife had "pulled pork" (her review from 6/21/2014) really says it all. Who says you should serve food with no love, no soul, no craft or art and charge the prices charged. You have customers one time, but how many return customers? The waitress was nice and well tipped. But, honestly... she didn't ask me if there was a problem with my meat portion of the dinner, even after I asked her if this was brisket or pot roast. So, The Hog Pit BBQ completely lacks integrity - faux BBQ. Place was pretty empty on a Saturday evening - should have been packed?

I judge a BBQ joint by its brisket. Meh. Fiancée's brisket platter featured 8 ounces of beef fat. Mine had a little meat which was moist and tender, but so is card board if you soak it in water. The brisket was horrible. Side dishes were mediocre at best...

The ONLY REASON I GIVE 3 is because the hospitality is something to be desired. EVERY time my son and I come in to eat we wait for at least 10 minutes after we are seen by at least 3 employees. Then when we are READY to order our waitress leaves us and doesn't come back fpr another 5 minutes AFTER she asks us if we are ready to order, I just don't get it. Why would you ask me if we are ready to order and then say "ok, I'll be right back" and not come back for 5 more minutes? My son was offered a coloring pad that never came. The hospitality here is something to be desired. The food is what brings us back. That's it! This is not a place for hospitable service, more of here it is and push you out!

The atmosphere is barren and off-putting, the service is insultingly poor, and the food notably subpar. My pulled pork sandwich consisted of roughly hacked blubbery hunks of fatty stewed pork some two inches thick. Will not eat here again.

Craving for bbq and found this place close by. We were kind of skeptical going here due to all the mixed reviews and plus coming from the south we've been basically spoiled by all the bbq we could get our hands on. That being said I'm gonna give my honest review and opinion about this place. We went here today for the first time and since we're rushing we ordered ours to go. Got the feast for 2 which consists of slab of ribs and 3 other meats, 2 corns, hush puppies and 2 addtl sides(got the beans and potato salad). When we got our order my hubby and i looked at each other and kinda shrugged coz we only got one box of it (we kinda expecting 2 to go boxes and the sides on separate containers, but we still kept an open mind). When we got home we we are ready to tear it up. I got all the stuff out of the bag and when i opened our box i was kinda in dismay. The 2 sides, slab of ribs and and 3 other meats are all in that to go box. First off, the quarter chicken we're expecting is chopped. Not the typical bbq chicken you would see in a bbq joint. It was a little on the bland side, not enough spices, not enough twang. The 2 sausages it came with are not really 2 whole sausages. We're kinda pissed off about this because it looked and tasted like those kind of sausages that you can buy in the supermarket and to top it off, it's cut in half, in half lengthwise people, hence the 2 sausages! Tsk tsk! Second, the sides, potato salad and hog's beans. The beans are okay but the potato salad is runny also not your typical bbq joint potato salad with mustard, dill and mayo. This one i guess is just anyone's choice so mine is my own opinion. Hush puppies on the other hand is tasty, just like what the south's been fixin. Third, the ribs and brisket are what's only good about our food. Brisket is like butter, so soft and flavorful. Ribs are the same with a little sweetness mixed into the rub. These are the only two worth spending my money with. Anyhow, my whole experience with this joint is on a disappointing side. It also doesn't help that we've been so used to the bbq we have down south that food in this place doesn't even level up to them. Also, the servings we get is not even worth the money we paid for it, that being said, i don't know if we'll ever come back here.

The Seinfeld episode with my service. My husband and I ordered two brisket sandwiches. My husbands was very good, mine tasted good but there was a lot of fat. About half the sandwich, but I do realize that happens. What my issue was is the service. Danae told me when I showed her the amount of fat, she has people, that come in in order extra fat on their sandwiches because of the taste. I did tell her that is not my taste. She did let me know that, that is her taste. Four times I approached this with hoping just too hear this does happen. This is the point I felt like I was on a Seinfeld episode. She could care less. Spoke to manager Nick, he at least listen to me, hope he addressed it because we won't be back and we won't have a good thing to say about the service. What a shame because the flavor and quality are there, but one waitress ruined it for us and anyone I speak too.

If you're looking for a spiffy atmosphere or generic ambiance then this place is NOT for you. The decor isn't anything to write about. This place is a sports bar, emphasis on bar, and has great BBQ. I'll take it any day over brushfire or any of the other chain BBQ joints in Tucson. Ribs are smoked with a rub and you can add sauce to your taste after they come out. Wings are great. Pork, brisket, mac and cheese, and sandwiches are all good. My friend from S.C. also love the food here. Nothing to complain about yet unless you want to pick apart the decor, chairs or the abundance of tv's (you know the typical bar stuff). I usually show up for lunch or early evenings before the heavy bar crowd shows up if I just want to eat.

Food here is excellent, one of my favs in mammoth. Service is a little unreliable. The first time we went there, there was a 45 min wait for our table of 5, so we started out with apps and drinks in the bar area. When our table was ready the hostess told us that we couldn't have our table anymore since we had sat at the bar area and ordered drinks. We were celebrating my in-laws 30th anniversary, so needless to say I was very upset by this. I spoke with the manager and asked why we weren't informed of this policy when we requested the table. The manager then promptly told us we could indeed have our table. The rest of the evening was great and the good quality made up for the initial mishap. I would highly recommend the tri trip sandwich. I have gotten it every time I've visited and each time our party agrees that it is the best item on the menu. Nice restaurant atmosphere, good food. Highly recommend.

My husband and I shared the smoker platter here last night. The brisket was amazing; probably the best brisket I have ever had. The pulled pork was also amazing and the barbecue sauce was incredible. The ribs were a little sub-par; kind of tough and chewy. I would definitely go back!

Pulled pork under seasoned and over done with a watery texture. Would have made mush of a bun had I ordered the sandwich. BBQ sauce tasty but no difference btw medium and hot. Coleslaw was fresh and crunchy, corn cob was old and watery. Corn cake tasted like from a box. No butter served with meal. When asked I gave my opinion on the meat I gave it and was served a new portion to sample that was hotter temperature, better seasoned and fresher but still watery not juicy. Think I'll stick to Cuban or Mexican prepared pull pork or head back to Famous Dave's. this was close by my location today but definitely would not drive crosstown for this-ever. I try to support local business but this was plain disappointing.

This place is great. Their BBQ is really good, they have different sauces, and so many sides. The only thing not so great is their cornbread. I would recommend sharing any of their "single serving" dishes cause unless your a food eating champion, these dishes were meant for two. The staff are friendly and the place is big so its good for groups. They also don't accept Amex.

I ordered the Hog Spud, Pulled Pork Platter with Hog Beans and Potato Salad. The Hog Spud was awesome I have never had nacho cheese, pulled pork and brisket stuffed in a potato. The pulled pork was delicious it had a different flavor like it was cooked or smoked in apple sauce. The same goes for the BBQ sauce it has a sweet apple flavor. I thought it tasted pretty good but almost to sweet, it didn't have any kick and it was the mild sauce. Yes mild shouldn't have a lot if kick but it should still have some. The beans were dry I would have liked them a little wetter. The potato salad was also different but was good. In the end I would go back the meat was juicy and tender, I would just try a hotter sauce and this from someone who doesn't like spicy food.

Smoked meats were all very good along with bbq sauce and fried pickles. Disappointing mac and cheese and pulled pork nachos- the cheese sauce on both was bland. Service was great and good value for the price.

The pulled pork sandwich and ribeye was awesome and on point for taste and tenderness. The wings tasted really good as well, but had broken bones. The music from the jazz band "Fatburger Fugitives f/ Steve Laury was phenominal.

Smoked rib eye is to die for!!!! If you are looking for some real true smoked meats done in a Southern Pride smoker, look no further, only one other in Tucson... With a combination of woods they can't tell you because you would be dead... I came here for Wednesday for wing special, $10 all you can eat. If you have never had wings smoked then you might have missed your pacifier as a baby. BBQ Sauces - 3 different kinds, all very good and made in house, ,but if you want the ultimate hot BBQ sauce just ask Curtis or one of the servers for "Death Sauce" but be careful this is not for those that have a weak palate. Ok ok so maybe they now call it extreme but I am sticking with death... Tried the nachos which was covered in the pulled pork n smothered in the molasses based Smokey love sauce. Just come here if you really love smoke.... Out!

Marcia, Dallas and Co. at The Pit rate another star, not just for such delectable bites as the pulled pork nachos, but because we arrived with a party of 6, which became 12, then quickly 20. Not only did they not bat an eye, but the service was calm, quick, and friendly. What an accommodating crew!

Alright place. My second time there bad each time it has been DEAD. That did not effect our food though. It was pretty good. I can't really point out a good or bad thing about the place. Wait, yes I can. I can point out the vodka Martinis. They were delicious. However, I suppose that compliment goes to the vodka, not the establishment. I will go back, but only if my boyfriend pays again. The place is a little pricey for what they serve. If you haven't been there, I suggest you try it and make up you own mind.

Pulled pork with hot BBQ sauce was pretty darn good. A previous review had me worried but it was actually well seasoned and had a nice consistency, not too wet, not too dry. The sweetness of the sauce was satisfying. A side of potato salad with purple onion complimented the meat nicely. We also shared a sliced brisket sandwich,'Carolina style', topped with cole slaw. This was tasty too but my guy thought it a little dry and there definitely could have been more slaw. The only real problem with these dishes was the portion size. They weren't tiny by any means however the prices were a little bit high for the portions. Except the cheese fries! $5 buys a big old basket of salty ridiculousness. Very fine with a cold glass of beer. Good service too!

I bought a Groupon/livingsocial for this place.. So a friend and I went on a Friday. After it taking 5 minutes for 4 people to decide who would seat us (it was very early and slow at this point), I was reviewing the fine print of my deal. Turned out, it couldn't be used on Fridays. No biggy. We ordered our food. When the waitress brought our plates, they had old food all over them. Still... No biggy. Asked for new ones. When the food came out and I saw it, I instantly thought I would get food poisoning. Mind you I didn't say this to my friend, but afterward we talked and she said she thought she was gonna get Hep A. The corn was sticky/old, the meat was just so unappealing. There was so much left over... We didn't take any home. I called whoever it was I bought the deal for and asked for a refund or deal bucks put back on my account because it was absolutely disgusting. It seemed as though we were eating weeks old left overs from the American Legion... That's what the staff looks like too.

Carolina girl here! I'd like to think I know a little bit about bbq. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing. So juicy and the flavor was great! With or without sauce (all three were worth trying depending on your mood).. This was my first completely satisfying meal since I have been in Tucson. Thank you for such great service, addressing the diners by name, and WONDERFUL FOOD. Mac and cheese please!

We had a great dinner there. The family dinner had a variety of meats much more than the three of us could eat! Reminds me of an old Texas Roadhouse BBQ place.

We live right down the road from here and were in the mood for BBQ. This place was non-impressive. Came in to eat, only 1 other patron on a weeknight for dinner? We asked if they had margaritas and got an enthused 'YES!' only to find that he meant... they have the very basic ingredients for a margarita...served in a Coors Light glass? The food was forgettable. I had the pulled pork sandwich (usually my FAVE)... it was WAY too sweet (brown sugar?) and almost inedible. My hubby had some ribs which he didn't eve finish. There was nothing bad, there just wasn't really anything...good? Meh.

Went for dinner on May 10, 2014 for the first time. I was a executive chef for 7 years in the past, but i am not a professional reviewer. From the outside, it looked like it had some potential but as soon as i walked through the door i knew i should have just left. The service was actually pretty good and the waitress/server was pleasant and attentive. I had no issues at all with the service or the drinks. The atmosphere was less than 1 star. it looks like a bar someone builds in there garage, the tables were mismatched and it looks like they have not updated anything in years. The server first tried to seat myself and my friend at a fold up table that seats 6-8...the kind you would see at the swap meet or garage sale...i opted for a small two seater which worked out better. I would not return just based on the atmosphere and conditions alone....as it really looks like a dump. If they would clean up the place and make it a little more modern with new tables and chairs etc, i would definitely go back. As far as the food goes, which is the important part...I ordered the brisket platter w/ mac and cheese and it comes with a little cornbread muffin. The food was warm, and came out pretty quickly. the mac and cheese was overcooked and had very little flavor, probably due to frozen cheese or just a cheap bulk variety. The cornbread was decent, but nothing special like some other restaurants that put honey on them or at least serve with butter or flavored butter. The brisket was around $12-13 and was the serving size of an appetizer, 4-5 small slices. It was not filling at all, but was tender and had a nice smoked flavor. the BBQ sauces they served were also pretty good and had a lot of flavor. I am not sure if they make the sauce in house or purchase from somewhere else, but i had no complaints with the sauce or the flavor/tenderness of the beef. Overall, the food was average, portions were small, service was good, atmosphere ruined the meal.

This place is great. The portions are generous, the bbq is to die for. Loved every bite. We went during the lunch hour .. it had nice music, great wait staff, enjoyed every bite of the pulled pork and onion rings. The side of beans was delicious and the ice tea fresh

Worst BBQ ever. Ribs were extremely fatty and luke warm. Fries were underdone and smelled like old oil. Corn was just bad. And who can screw up corn on the cob?? Avoid this place.

Stopped in the other day because I was hungry for pulled pork. I've had brisket here before and it was ok. So decided to try the pulled pork. I enjoyed it. The mild sauce was good without being too sweet or too spicy. The mac & cheese was ok and so was the corn. The meal hit the spot. It was what I was hungry for.

I'm sure the food is great, the server we got tonight was a "no" kinda customer service. Not sure if she was having a bad day or not but everything we ordered my friend and I were told no and or we ran out and were never offered up anything in place of what we ordered. After 2, yes TWO hours of being at the restaurant, my friend and I were greeted by a different server and we were served. However once we were done eating and getting ready to leave, we asked the server for our check, she said "ok" then preceeded to grab a broom and sweet the inside of the restaurant. We asked her again and she said "ok" again. I stood up and went outside where the owner was sitting down smoking a cigar, and told him how our night went. The owner did not offer anything up, other than an "I'm sorry that happened, and the next time you come in I'll take care of you" How about making things right now!! Anyway no loss... Needless to say, never going there again.

We stopped in for dinner at the Hog Pit a few nights ago, and I was pleasantly surprised at the sports bar atmosphere of the place. I liked all the televisions and the wrap around bar. We ordered the 2 person meal, which included ribs, 3 types of meat, corn, hush puppies and 2 sides (we got beans and coleslaw). What was good was the pulled pork, brisket and grilled sausage. All had a good flavor, and when you added the hot bbq sauce, they were all excellent. The beans were also very good, and I don't ususally do beans. Now to the not so good. The ribs were not up to the quality of the rest of the meal. Too much gristle, not enough meat. The hush puppies were too hard. Overcooked perhaps? The coleslaw had no flavor whatsoever, and the corn on the cob was mushy, like it had been sitting in water too long. Also, when we ordered a $30 meal, we expected there to be more food than what we received. So, Hog Pit was a bit overpriced, and not all of it's menu items were very good, but their meat (most of it anyway), is too die for. I'll be back, probably for a pulled pork sandwich and a beer.

OK, but man upgrade the mens room. A disgusting trough, c'mon. My wife did not use the ladies room but if it's anything like the mens room expect to not have the best clientel. Otherwise the service was nice. the music although with no vocals becomes somewhat insipid is also nice. Clean it up and good luck.

This place took over the old Taco Bron space on Tanque Verde, and I was sad when that happened (I loved Taco Bron!). I've seen in the local news that the previous Hog Pit owners were having some trouble during this recession, so I was excited to see how the new owners are managing. I went on a week-night, and the place was about half full. The first thing that assaulted my senses was the plethora of GINORMOUS televisions that line the walls. They all seemed to be tuned to different stations, which makes the place feel schizophrenic and distracting. Sure it's a sports bar, but wallpaper would be cheaper. More TV's does not necessarily mean "better." It's disturbing. It would be nice if they would pick one or two games, and turn the rest of the TV's OFF. Don't come here for the ambiance. If you want a quiet, comfortable place to connect with your conspirators, forget it. Plan on drinking to numb the pain of the TV noise and the sports fans yelling next to you. The lights are harsh and the chairs are uncomfortable. It seems that very little attention was paid to decor (other than paint and sports motifs). Well, that's fine, if they're saving money to provide good BBQ at low prices. Unfortunately, the BBQ ribs are overpriced and mediocre at best. I ordered a half-rack of pork ribs (about $16) with a side of mac-and-cheese. The half-rack was about 8" long, and the ribs were moderate. "Fall off the bone tender," yes, but also over-cooked and gristly. Some of the meat was toasted enough to get chewy. The mac-and-cheese was divine, though! I never order it in restaurants, because, to quote a Season 3 episode of Robot Chicken, "it's nature's ass-cork!" But this mac-and-cheese was excellent - thick and cheesy, with perfect pasta. Next time I'll skip the ribs, order a bowl of mach-and-cheese, and save twenty bucks. The service was just fine. Our guy was polite and timely. He rolled well with my Dad's ridiculous verbal jousting. On another occasion, I met a fellow Yelper for happy hour, and we sat at the bar. That's a better venue. The cute female bartender was very cheerful and fun. We had brisket sliders and pulled pork sliders. Both were very good, and yes - the brisket was "like buttah." That is definitely a winner. But, if you're coming here for BBQ ribs, I suggest going to Texas Roadhouse instead (Wilmot and Broadway). You get twice as much for the same price, and the ribs are much better. That being said, The Hog Pit is a good place to get hammered and yell at TV's.

We used a Living Social coupon so we had a deal that made it a good value. The food was fine, not ooo-laa-laa, but decent pit bbq. We odered a combo for two. Two sausages, a half rack of ribs, plenty of pulled pork and some brisket. Sides of fries and slaw. The portions were huge, we took home as much as we ate. Some restaurant food can survive a long hold. Cornbread is not one of them. Quasi biker bar ambience so be prepared. Though most bbq places are not known for their chic. Save Famous Dave's which isn't known for its food. Take you pick.

I have been to Hog Pit a few times and finally decided to write a review on it. I really want to like this place but it seems they just don't want to give me a reason to. We went on a busy night and sat on the patio. The patio was packed and they seemed very unprepared for the large crowd. Servers were confused and seemed lost. More than once I saw servers walking around with plates of food not sure where to deliver them. They had $1 beer specials advertised but, conveniently, they were "out" of the advertised special. Hmmm... On to the food... my wife and I had a late lunch and were not all that hungry so we decided to split one entree. We ordered the brisket plate and requested it be split, for which they charged $2. I, personally, don't have a problem with the charge as they brought us both our own plates which seemed to have full orders of fries. The brisket had a funny look to it when they set it on the table. It looks like a sponge that someone had taken a cheese grater to. The fat on it was visible. It did not look like they had bothered to trim it all... very unappealing. That being said, it tasted OK after cutting off the fat and squirting some of their Voodoo (the spiciest option) BBQ sauce on it. Like I said, I want to like this place. It's close to home and seems like it may be a cool place to hang out and play pool or poker as they have Texas Hold-Em on some nights. I will go back... if only to see if I can ever capitalize on that $1 beer special and maybe try a burger.

Good food, nice customer service, various places to find comfort be it on the patio, at the bar, dining area, or at a pool table. There was a big screen outside so I think they might even show movies.

My family and I stopped by here for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised of the cool atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was quite good. Since it was our first time there, they let us try a sample of their pulled pork and beef brisket. Both were cooked perfectly and very flavorful, though there was a definate edge to the pulled pork. All of the ingredients were nice and they keep their sauce on the side with different levels of hotness so you can choose. This is one of the best bbq joints I have found in town thus far. Give it a try.

Excellent barbecue actually taste like they use real wood! That doesn't happen that much in in Arizona. The place looks more like a sports bar than a restaurant. There had several televisions so you can watch the basketball game. The atmosphere wasn't the greatest. It was almost like a dive bar, a nice dive bar. I had a sampler platter with three different types of meat. I was pretty impressed with the portions.

I visited The Hog Pit during their opening weekend. The restaurant is more of a bar with many tables, kind of like a Chuy's layout but with much better food and more waiter service. It is a biker bar! They have bike parking in front and lots of people wear leather vests. Yet they're nice to non-biker people such as myself. The menu consists of only BBQ meat. BBQ chicken, beef or baby back ribs, brisket, and other BBQ cow items. Every piece of meat is cooked almost perfectly. Chicken falls off the bone. Sausage is juicy. Brisket tears apart like a precious flower. I had the combination smoke plate (which had a name but I can't recall) and my boyfriend had the chicken. The other member of our group had the BBQ brisket, but I had my own brisket on my plate so his dish was unimportant. My smoke platter had sausage, beef ribs, baby back ribs, brisket, and one other beef item which I can't put a name on. Every item was fabulous, my favorites were the baby back rbs and the thing that I can't remember the name of (I'm so helpful, aren't I). Cornbread and two sides came with my dish, a choice of beans, slaw, fries, or a Mexican side that's spelled wrong on the menu (a vegetable medley with a Mexican flare). I had this Mexican side and the fries. The cornbread was a little dry, the Mexican side wasn't a good fit for my tastebuds, but the fries were good. I normally skip on eating fries at restaurants but I couldn't not eat these. The BBQ sauce is quite tasty. They don't smother their food in it which allows you to actually taste the meat. I asked for some extra BBQ sauce and our waitress brought three servings, one for each of us. The waitress actually tried to make us happy. The BBQ sauce incident wasn't the only sign of good service. Our waitress never left us waiting. Our drinks never went empty, our food was brought out warm and quickly, but most importatntly, she was friendly. On each table sits a pad of paper and multiple colored pencils. Each piece of paper has the title "Absolut Bloody Mary" written on top and below it is a checklist. I don't know how long these will remain on tables but I hope they take them away soon. I can't have a checklist in front of me and not start checking things off. Bloody Marys are $5 each.

Three strikes; They are OUT! I give most establishments 3 tries at getting my business. We went for all you can eat wings. A recent illness left me sensitive to spices. we ordered the mild for me and my associate ordered Hot. we each got a plate with a dozen wings, but even the mild was frying my face off. After a short talk with the server, my plate of wings was passed to my partner, and the server went to get a new plate of wings with NO hot spice. She arrived with a plate and an odd attitude. She announced that she could only give us HALF a dozen at a time. It sounded like a scolding. Beyond that, the service was hmm marginally fair at best. We would have ordered a few cocktails if the server was attentive. When she finally checked on us, we had empty plates, empty glasses. I had my final wing in my hand and she cleared the plates. when I finished that wing I had no place to put the bones. Well, I guess I could've put them in the bone-dry margarita glass. Of note is that the place was not busy; 1 other table with 2 patrons. bizarre business strategy.

Sad to say, I wasn't impressed with the Hog Pit last night. I was there for Happy Hour / dinner. While I had a nice time with my friends, here are some of my observations: -Beer was cold. But that's not really that impressive now is it? -Service was pretty awful. It wasn't busy, but everything took forever and sometimes we never did actually receive what we asked for. -BBQ pork had a huge chuck of fat in the middle. -Burger was undercooked. I wouldn't mind, because I like burgers rare, but the friend who actually ordered it had asked for medium well. Also, I know this isn't really their fault, but there were some pretty scuzzy people in there. We walked in at 6:30 pm, which is far too early for me to deal with two different old (drunk? I hope) men gawking and making comments as we walked by. I mean, we're not *that* hot. The two star rating is exactly how I feel: "Meh. I've experienced better." It kinda felt like a waste of a perfectly good babysitter.

We went here for the first time and we were very impressed. I had the whole hog burger, which was a patty topped with brisket and pulled pork. Although the beef patty was not memorable, the brisket and pulled pork were like butter. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, see above. Most delicious brisket I have ever had, and pulled pork was incredible too. We will be back

Hi! Great BBQ, nice sides, friendly fast service, tea was always full, I'm not sure I ask for much more out of a BBQ joint. I would normally give them 3 - 4 stars, but I think the bad ratings were done a previous owner and do not think it is fair that they carry this on. The staff was very nice and seamed truly happy to have people there, give these guys a try! They have Guinness on tap, not sure you can go wrong there...

Alert the media...it's finally safe (and delicious!) to head back to The Hog Pit on Tanque Verde! Amazing how a change in ownership can make a world of difference. After steadfastly avoiding the place for the past couple of years, we decided to give it another shot (the Under New Management sign was calling our name, because after all...what's better than really great BBQ!). Had to return the second day just to make sure the previous day was really as delicious that we thought...and I'm happy to say that we were right! Have only tried the pulled pork and sliced brisket sandwiches so far, but I'm sensing the entire menu is going to be as good. Had the same waitress on both occasions, and she was quite sweet (and organized, something I've always liked in someone in the waitstaff biz). So a hearty welcome to the new owners and keep up the good work!

The Hog Pit suffers from either an identity crisis or a complete lack of caring on the part of the staff. They're either a decent bar that serves food, or they're a sub-par restaurant with good drink prices. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried going for lunch, dinner and drinks on several different occasions. Not once did everything go right. I'm not expecting everything to amaze me, but I sure would love it if everything were at least adequate. There are a few positives about The Hog Pit, mostly dealing with the bar. The bartenders are nice and they know what they're doing. Drink prices aren't high and the beer is cold. The restaurant side of the house is where things begin to break down. I've never had a good experience with a server here, let alone a great one. They frequently forget drinks, bring out the wrong orders and take too much time to come around to each table. Once, when I asked for some extra sauce, one of the line cooks finally brought out a squeeze bottle. My server was talking at the bar. The food might be good sometimes, but I'm not sure. The main issue I have is that on five out of six attempts to eat here they were out of whatever I wanted. One day it was brisket, the next pulled pork. Time of day doesn't seem to matter either. Sunday afternoon or Thursday night, they're out of multiple items. If you're a BBQ joint, please try to plan ahead. Multiple times over several months is inexcusable. The sauces aren't all that flavorful, and they don't give you much to go with unless you ask for extra. Sadly, the meat doesn't stand on it's own. The sweet potato fries are good, but really could use some sort of dipping sauce. Ketchup just doesn't do it. The barbecue market in Tucson is expanding, and there are now several options. If The Hog Pit wants to thrive as a restaurant rather than a bar they really need to step up their game.

Coming from Texas I have been looking for good BBQ in Tucson. Went toa few places around town and didnt have much success. Stumbled onto the Hogpit and glad I did. The brisket and pulled pork were excellent. Juicy and smoked perfectly. The cornbread was great too. Great bbq sauces to go along with it. Highly recommend if you love bbq!

We had a group of 30+ and everyone enjoyed the food and service! It could not have been better. Many of us could not believe we had not visited the Hog Pit before and we will be back. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. The service was fast, prompt, and friendly. The food was juicy, full of flavor, and the servings were large. I can't wait to visit the Hog Pit again. Thanks Curtis and the Hog Pit staff.

I can't believe that yelp reviewers gave this place barely 3 stars. This is amazing BBQ. Maybe the previous reviewers don't know good BBQ or simply like chain restaurants. If you know good BBQ this is a great place. We came down from PHX and stumbled upon it. The sausage, ribs, and brisket - smoked and BBQ'd is really excellent. The mac & cheese was to die for - even contained bleu cheese. The corn bread was exceptional. We are going to plan another trip down just to enjoy their amazing food.

We live fairly close to the Hog Pit and this is one of our go-to places. When the new owners, Les and Trisha (sp?) took over about a year ago they brought with them LIVE MUSIC everyday starting at 5. Les, is Les Baxter the Emmy nominated guy, and the music is a great addition. The kitchen crew looks to be the same with the new ownership, which is good. We have always loved the food here, although they did jack the prices up across the board a bit. During the colder evenings the bands play inside, but now they have moved out onto the ever popular patio. Our visit last Wednesday had an excellent band and we had never seen the place so packed. Our server seemed like she was in shock, but she was absolutely slammed with customers. It didn't matter because the music and drink made up for that. The pulled pork is my wife's fav, where I like the Hog Burger (Burger, Brisket, and pulled pork w/cheese on a bun) oh yeahhh! The Men's room urinal is a one-of-a-kind creation...That's all I'm going to say.

I am happy I've found a good BBQ place close to my house...my mom and I used a LivingSocial deal and got the huge BBQ platter so we got to sample a little of everything. The Brisket and pork stole the show (pork was #1), the sausage was a bit greasy. The beans were good and so were the carrots...the cornbread was a savory cornbread as opposed to a sweet one, but the honey butter with it was good. I can't give it 5 stars for several reasons...keep in mind that this is a BAR..I didn't really think about it until I walked in, but was quickly reminded. A good place to catch a game if that's what you're looking for. Lastly, the server wasn't rude per say...but she sure as heck wasn't friendly either. If I ever come back again it will probably just be to order to-go.

I wasn't impressed with their nachos one bit. For one it had some cold spots just seconds after I started diggin in. The pulled pork was very tasty but it didnt have enough. My little one loves mac and cheese and he couldn't eat it. It was watery looking. The martini's were ok but it took him awhile to make one and it wasn't busy. I love all the TV's! The atmosphere is really nice! This is a great place for a beer and a game!

Just went here this afternoon! The new management is way better than the previous group, and the food was terrific. Got a sample of the ribs, and the pulled pork and both were excellent. For my meal, I had the brisket sandwich with regular fries. The brisket was tender and flavorful, but not as good as the pork. The sauces are what make the sandwich though, you can add them yourself at the table. Mild, medium and hot BBQ sauces, all made in-house and all are way tasty with a sweet undertone that is a bit unexpected. I was even dipping my fries in the stuff :) Friendly service, never had my drink go below the halfway point before it was noticed and refilled. I'd totally go back next time I have a craving for some damn good BBQ :)

Recently experienced the hog pit Friday night. The jazz band on the patio was quite good and set the tone for the evening. The selection of tap beers was good but could be expanded. However the brisket was exceptional. It had a light crust and literally fell apart in my mouth. It was tender, juicy and had an awesome flavor. I'm from Texas and quite picky about my BBQ. Both the serving size and choice of great sauces made the night. The sides rounded out the meal with corn bread, corn, beans and coleslaw. Will certainly be back again to try the large selection of other meats. Hats of to the service as we were well taken care of.

The meat was all right. It wasn't good and it wasn't bad. My boyfriend and I sought this place out for a much needed date night because we were craving BBQ. Next time the craving hits, we'll stick with Brushfire. I really hated the BBQ sauce. It tasted like apple pie but not as sweet. The sauce had very pronounced apple and cinnamon flavors. It was sooo weird. I was not feeling it. I'm sure some like it but not me. The sides are super "meh". The place is cool, though. It has much more of a bar aspect than most restaurants. Cool place for locals in the area to have a beer or two.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch. First impression was that it seemed dead. We were the only people there for a long time. One other customer showed up toward the end. The staff was civil. Service was ok. BBQ was ok. I'd try it again, my wife wouldn't bother. We prefer Brushfire. Also like Famous Daves, although I find it hit or miss depending on the day.
