HOLY SMOKES! This place was terrific! Authentic, huge portions for a very low price! My boyfriend and I were impressed. They gave us complimentary chips and salsa which was nice, but nothing over the top. I ordered guacamole to go with the chips. It was unique with pieces of some sort of white cheese in it, tomatoes, and peppers. I ordered #24 which is chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce and onions. The sauce was delicious and creamy! The chicken inside was tender and flavorful, not dry like some places I've tried. It came with beans and rice. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada chimichanga and it was huge! He mentioned they were generous with the meat and he really enjoyed it. For dessert, we ordered the mini chimis de leche. It came with 3 of them as well as a sopapilla with 3 scoops of ice cream stacked on top (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry), chocolate sauce, and sprinkles! The thick, rich, custard-type filling in the chimis was so good! We ate all of this for around only $30! Our server, Fernando, was very helpful and friendly. He did a great job! We also came in half an hour before closing time and we ended up staying after 30 minutes. They were nice enough to let us enjoy our meal without rushing us. We became instant fans and if we're back in the Tucson area, we'll definitely be back! They advertise a buffet available for all three meals! Breakfast everyday 6a-11a Lunch everyday 11a-2p Dinner Fri/Sat 4-8:30p, Sun 4-7p Also, live music and mariachi on Sundays (not sure what time)

Oh Rigo's, I am a fan of thee! I lived in Tucson for 27 years and loved the mexican restaurants that were often a tradition there. Rigo's is no exception. After moving to Phoenix, which has no great mexican food restaurants, I make Rigo's a trip when I make it back to Tucson. Their food is authentic and has a lot of flavor and reminds me a lot of my mom and nana's coooking, which is never a bad thing. I had the Dan Eckstrom salad with carne asada and it was delicious! The carne asada tasted like it came from an actual family barbeque and the corn tortillas were amazing. I have tried a little of everything there and nothing ever tastes bad. If you are looking for a great mexican food restaurant, you have found the place. Oh and they do catering too!

mmmmm love the Old Style Machaca tacos...... excellent flavor. Salsa was great. Definitely coming back for a few more samplings of what they have to offer.

The first time I visited Tuscon I went to this place with my friend and she is 100% Mexican so I knew it must be good- The food was amazing but for 2 of us it was around 30.00 which to me seems a bit high for just lunch. I went back and brought my husband who loved it and this time we splurged on fried ice cream after our meals which once again blew me away. They are extremely fast at getting food out and I can't wait to visit again,,

Let me situate Rigo's for you: it's like every other average, family-owned Mexican restaurant in South Tucson. Rigo's can boast better murals (look for Laurel and Hardy playing in a mariachi band) and a Dan Eckstrom fetish, but they are otherwise forgettable. Their white menudo was okay, though the broth could have been more developed, while the albondigas had a decent broth but remarkably little in it. The green corn tamale was overpriced, undersized, and tasted predominately like the cheese it was smothered in--not a bad thing, but not a knockout tamale. Carne asada tacos were a solid B. Two people in our party tried the buffet and brought back heaping plates of deep-fried stuff that looked tepid and unseasoned... sort of like what you'd expect from an office party at a company on the verge of bankruptcy. In its defense, the buffet price was very reasonable, so if you need a lot of empty calories that aren't burdened with flavor, it might be a solution--the table of cops seemed to enjoy it. If you go to Rigo's, you probably won't remember it. If you don't go to Rigo's, you will probably go somewhere else that is exactly like it.

Referred by a friend....finally went to see what their Buffet was like. Mmmmmmm, Mmmmmm, Mmmmmm.....cheerful service, tasty chips, salsa and all you can eat Guacamole. Buffet well presented! Place was hustlin' & bustlin'. Lot's of peps in & out. Arrived just before breakfast buffet ended, fast to refresh buffet and get ready for the lunch rush. Glad we got there early, b'cuz this place was hoppin. Worth a trip back to try dinner from the menu!

We had a wonderful family lunch here. The food was delicious and plentiful. We all had the lunch buffet and even my pickier youngest child loved the food. My hubby is a salsa connoisseur and was very pleased. My only complaint was the live music, which was very loud. Very. Loud. The mariachi singers and live instruments were wonderful, but the sound is overwhelmingly loud in the smaller, stone and brick environment. But, that's only on Sundays. ;)

Best green corn tamale in the city? Well, I haven't had EVERY green corn tamale in Tucson, and Tucson DOES have some mighty delicious green corn tamales (henceforth to be referred to simply as GCT), but I have eaten a LOT of them, and I will say this was the best, the very best GCT I have ever had. Not just in Tucson. Anywhere. I had been here before, and remember being unimpressed with the food, especially for Southern Arizona. My husband decided he wanted a chimichanga last night, found a photo for here on Yelp and despite my trying to convince him otherwise, decided we were to eat dinner here. They have an all you can eat buffet, which looked good, but being a pescatarian, there was not much I could eat on it. We each opted to order off the menu. Chips and salsa and our drinks were brought VERY fast! The chips were put down within 3 seconds of us sitting down and the iced tea came quickly after. Oh my word, this salsa is SO good! It's super fresh, you can tell it's homemade, it's spicy but flavorful....I was a big fan. I got the Janet Napolitano plate, which was a cheese enchilada, two GCT, rice and beans, and the hubs got a carne asada chimi with a side of rice. I tried one bite of my GCT first, and promptly decided I had to eat them last. No matter how delicious the rest of my plate was (which it was), I wanted to end on these delectable delicacies. The cheese enchilada was just a cheese enchilada. There's not a whole lot you can do to it to make it amazing. The enchilada sauce was great, and very much like any enchilada sauce you could get at a lot of other places. The beans were SO good! Salty and savory...You can judge a good Mexican place by it's beans, and these were fantastic! On to the GCT, which are my new favorite thing EVER! They are sweet, a little spicy, none of that nasty gritiness that can come from other tamales...they are perfect. These epitomize the fantastic corn husk covered, green chili filled, masa encapsulated deliciousness that is a GCT. I even asked if they would be willing to sell me a dozen of these so I can thrown them in the freezer and have them at my leisure. They did, for $18. Now, I know what you are thinking. You are thinking "$18 bucks for a dozen tamales SEEMS pretty steep, especially when you consider that we are in Tucson, Arizona, the capital of the Tamale World. You silly, silly girl." No! These are AMAZING, and I would MUCH rather spend $18 on a dozen of the best tamales of my life than $9 on a dozen tamales that suck...or are the very least not awesome. The service here was spot on. Our server was nice, never let our teas get even a little down, and when we tried to order sopapillas, she let us just grab some off the buffet (As she put it, "You DID buy a lot of tamales"). She checked on us often, listened to me blither on about the GCT, and since the don't normally sell them by the dozen, was nice enough to ask and potentially convince the chef to let me buy them. Hubs loved his chimi. He said he was expecting just carne asada in it, but it had onions and a delicious sauce and spices...it was so much more and so much better than he was expecting it to be! This was an all around 5 star experience. Was it fancy? Nope! Big ole nope on that front. Was it awesome and fantastic from the service to the food to the cleanliness? Yes! Huge, ginormous yes!

Updating because I love this place. The buffet is awesome, and it's great if you are low-carbing. I love their albondigas soup. The cheese soup is a bit odd, but yummy. Buffet includes guacamole...yay! And soda is included in the buffet price, and they have Diet Dr. Pepper! Love this place.

I was introduced to Rigo's by a good friend/colleague after I started working at the VA Hospital around the corner. I had the lunch buffet the first time I went and that has been my Go-To item ever since ! The owners and staff are always super friendly, the place is always clean, the food is always hot, and there is PLENTY of it ! Recently, I was given a gift certificate to Rigo's for my birthday and I am taking my lovely wife there for the breakfast buffet next weekend. If the lunch is any indication ... this will be AWESOME !

One of the best, if not the best Mexican food I have ever experienced! Excellent menu, great buffet for lunch, good service. If you are in the area - you will not be disappointed. Good corn soft tacos!.

We went to Rigos based on the great reviews it had on Yelp. Meh. The service was good. Food was ok. I've definitely had better. The atmosphere is 'hole in the wall' complete with linoleum tile floor. The do have a 'patio' - it is part of the parking lot that has been fenced off and a few metal tables placed out there.

I been coming to this restaurant for years. This place is clean, service is great, and the food is delicious. Love the salsa, and you must try the buffet. I always recommend this restaurant:)

I've been looking for a good Mexican buffet since Gordo's closed. This one is good. Almost as good as Gordos, almost. We liked all the options for the lunch buffet. Make your own tacos, carnitas, calabasitas, red or green chile, sopapillas. The food was keep fresh and filled. We want to try the dinner buffet soon. And some of the menu items. Our waitress was friendly and attentive even though it was a busy weekend afternoon.

Worst machaca and eggs I've ever had. All wet. The buffet swarmed with patrons like ants. This place is a fire hazard. Had to settle for it bc Mi Nidito was closed.

I'm updating my review - the last review that I wrote was in mid-2014. I had gone to Rigo's many times after that, and noticed some aspects that the restaurant needs to change. Believe me, I dislike leaving bad reviews, and will not leave bad ones unless I feel like the business is deserving of such review. Let me start off with the positives. The food is consistent. I didn't notice any differences in the taste of the food, and it has been good for the times I have gone to Rigo's. They have pretty good deals for buffets. Here's the downfall: the service. I went with my parents a few weekends ago, because other places were packed. We all asked for water before ordering our food, and the waitress very rudely placed (more accurately, slammed) the water on our table before walking away. We asked for straws, and she returned with those much later, and carelessly threw them on the table, giving us a look before leaving. Instead of getting the buffet, my dad decided to order off of the menu, and asked for extra jalapenos on the side after the order came. We never saw the jalapenos... well, we never saw her. I would have been more reasonable with my review if there were many people in the restaurant, but the restaurant was quite slow, and the waitress couldn't have had many people to attend. I have never seen service that bad before, especially when I was with my parents, who are elderly. I, a long time supporter of Rigo's, will not go back until news has it that they have upped their service.

Loved our meal on Sunday with family. Even though it was busy we were well taken care of. Mariachi Sonido de Mexico was a plus. The tamales de maíz verde were a Sonoran treat done justice here.

This place gets insanely busy on the weekend. With a breakfast buffet followed by lunch buffet followed by a dinner buffet, you can only imagine. I feel like I come here once or twice a year, and I've been running at that pace for about eight years now. Restaurants name to fame has to do with the celebrity status. Many elected officials over the years have patronize this business, aiding and it's homegrown reputation. Even former Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has even been there. There's even a plate that she apparently signed framed and hanging behind the cash register. But the Meh-Factor is strong with this one. What can you expect? Servers and bussers vigorously rushing throughout the establishment. Lots of families and small children. Lots of laughter and general jovial energy. Very loud. Very busy. And standard - very standard - fare. There's nothing overly amazing about the buffet. They generally have scrambled eggs, ground beef, shredded chicken, chimis, chilaquiles, menudo, these funny looking deep fried tacos... Think of it like this: if you wake up one morning and open your fridge and find that, yes, you have biscuits, eggs, tortillas, cheese, even some refried beans and rice but don't feel like cooking (you lazy!) ...Rigo's it is.

If you like salty food.this is the place for you. The server was excellent, tried to make it right. But the management was not at all helpful. The food we ordered was standard Sonoran food and should have been no problem to prepare. I can not recommend this restaurant.

This review is for breakfast only. I went for breakfast with some co-workers. They all got the breakfast buffet which I think priced out around 8. The price is reasonable for the amount of food you get. I like that. I ordered a chorizo burrito. If you are like me and like things spicy, this is not your place in terms of at least chorizo and salsa. I dipped practically that whole burrito in their salsa and it still wasn't hot. The restaurant itself was clean and the staff was nice. Maybe another time I try something different apart from breakfast and see how it is. I am so critical of my Mexican food being used to and spoiled in Southern New Mexico!! ;-)

Menudo. Need I say more. Excellent. Love going there for that. Service is always friendly. Atmosphere is quaint. For example out table was not level. Everything was clean etc. Somehow we always get lucky and find a parking spot

Always good, always consistent, always friendly. A great menu and an excellent buffet. The salsa is authentic, hand chopped, and hard to go slow! This is not a pretentious Mexican food restaurant, rather a unique "come as you are" and "welcome in our house" establishment. Love Rigo's!!!

This was the first Mexican Buffet I've ever been to, but it's also the best Mexican Restaurant I've ever been to, as well. We went on a Sunday around 2 pm and had the buffet, which was delicious. No short cuts were taken here, imo, the quality was exquisite. We first entered with the sound of a live Mariachi band, my first, and it was so beautiful. The atmosphere was quaint, and screamed Mexico. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves a great meal, great entertainment, and a great vibe.

Oh Rigos, I always remember liking you a lot but whenever I eat your breakfast buffet I find it just A-Okay. I'll give you an extra thumbs up for the sopapillas as a selection on the buffet sometimes. The rest is pretty standard, nothing impressive. I like you guys and seem to come back so that's a good sign. Maybe simply because I find myself always working in South side every few years. You're dependable for hot breakfast food that's not a taquiera

Outstanding Mexican cuisine. Large portions. Buffet is desired. From the crowds, it's obvious that this restaurant is very good.

I just ate here for Cinco de Mayo. Pretty awesome food. It's one of the mexican restaurants that doesn't get enough love here in Tucson. Extremely underrated in my opinion. It has everything you look for in a Mexican restaurant. Good portions, good price, good flavor. It is also very authentic; which is what you should be looking for while in Tucson!

I ordered the sopas de cabacita (Mexican Zuccini soup served with corn tortilla, and a side order of a machaca old-style taco.

Disclaimer: Visiting from an island where nothing resembling Mexican Food can be found. Still, raised in Southwest, so I have dreams of what good salsa tastes like... A yummy ridiculously large bite of no-nonsense Southwestern-Mexican food. Tasty salsas (chips not the best though), good menu, reasonable prices, and excellent carne asada. Would be pleased to eat here again sometime. Nex

My mother in law, niece, great niece and my daughter went here for Mother's day, and the place was packed. We ended up waiting about 10 minutes, which was not too bad. We wanted to go to a different place, but it was closed on Sundays (shame on you Chili Rellano Burrito) so we ended up here by default. Service was really good, food was really good, drink glasses were kept full, with a little break in between. But we all drink Diet Coke like we just got out of the Sahara Desert, so I understand that sometimes there will be a gap, and it was mom's day, so our waitress was really busy. The only bad thing I can say is the tortilla that was wrapped around the red chili goodness of my burrito didn't seem as fresh as it could have been. We all agreed we would be back. Thanks, Rigo's, for a good Mom's day experience.

Well I think I'm Mexican "fooded out". Attending the gem show has its draw backs and finding a variety of non-chain places to eat was difficult. So we decided to try Rigo's, which specializes in food of San Miguel de Allende. The place is very clean and the staff is pleasant, efficient and professional. The salsa is of a different variety, with roasted green chilies in it. I liked it very much. They offer a mole, so I opted for that. 2 chicken mole enchiladas with rice and bean, $8.75. Nice not too sweet flavor to the mole, rice okay, beans good with the sprinkled white Mexican cheese. The chile rellano we ordered wasn't on par to our favorite and so that was dismissed. The chile verde chimichanga was huge, a lot of meat, would have liked more verde sauce to compensate for all the meat and tortilla, kind of dry--salsa came in handy here. Big menu and they have a buffet for breakfast and lunch too. A good option when you are S of downtown.

right from the start the service was deplorable. Attitude; I am absolutely baffled when a hostess or waitress acts like it's a privilege for you to be there and ignores or are annoyed with your presence. the hostess seemed annoyed that she had to work, but at least she kept herself restrained from saying something stupid. The food was meh, nothing spectacular, mostly tasteless but lots of it. It's a fattening fried buffet. The idea seems like a great one, and I can imagine them being a decent place at one time, but their moral is messed up! Something is going on with their management or something. My biggest complaint is the service. It was sub par and it felt like they served us out of disdain. Then a mariachi group shows up, which is awesome! Since we were celebrating my daughters 3rd b-day we promptly went up there, before they started, and told them to play las mananitis, we gave them a 20$. They not only did not play our song but played other requests that were given after we had already given ours. I tried to talk to the manager to see if maybe the mariachi had a "set list" they had to play and told her why I was concerned. She told me that they weren't contracted and I had to take it up with the band leader. Which is fine, although it would've been nice if the manager had control over her own restaurant. My sister ended up going up there and getting our money back. What the hell?!! So with the stingy mariachi and horrible service, I would say never go here. It really isn't worth your time or money. There are way too many really good mexican restaurants in Tucson to even risk dealing with this place. Although I'm white, my wife and her family are hispanic, so I'm a bit perplexed on their attitudes. We were nothing but nice and cordial, and not only that, I felt as though we lightened up the stagnant atmosphere after we sang happy birthday to my daughter. After which everyone seemed to be more relaxed and talkative. So I felt like we improved their atmosphere and were still treated like crap. uggggghhh.

Holy god people.....don't waste your time and money at this dump. In a city like tucson, where there are Mexican restaurants on every corner, you will get better Mexican food at Taco Bell. The prices are fair and you can always find a Groupon for this place, which should be the first warning sign, but you will be disappointed, especially if you are Mexican or know what Mexican food can taste like if it is made well.

Very good food each time we come here. Always something for everyone and for every appetite. I love their chili rellenos, never disappoints. Many in the family love their buffet - i always order from the menu. Great wait staff each time too.

No.... Just, no. I ordered oatmeal for breakfast and they looked at me like I was crazy. I asked for raisins and brown sugar which they don't have by the way. If you like greasy Mexican food, then go for it!

Been here a couple of times and always have a great experience, only this time was a little more special. We went in on a Sunday around noon and the line was almost out the door, but were seated within a matter of 10 minutes tops. Place was filled to capacity and then some, but for a place like this the wait is worth it. If you really want a traditional experience then this is the place to come. As we sat I noticed that I could hear a constant buzzing from everyone chatting over great food and just enjoying each others company. I've always ordered the buffet, which I love because it has all the necessities and they are constantly refilling. I have to deduct a star only because I would like to see them add a variety of foods because I'd like to taste it all :) We were fortunate enough to keep eating until 1 as this is when the real show started. We had a chance to watch a Mariachi band by the name of Sonido de Mexico and they were GREAT!!! I highly recommend Rigo's as you get a chance to eat GREAT food with GREAT people while listening to GREAT music!!!! Live Mariachis from Friday 6:30 pm - 9 pm Sundays from 10 am - 11 am and again from 1 pm - 2 pm

Although I'm sure the regular menu is great, I've never ordered from it because the buffet is pretty much the best buffet ever. The selection is amazingly large, offering at least a dozen different dishes plus all the beans, guacamole, cheese, and sour cream you can devour. In addition to the main entrees, there are always two soup options, mini-sopapillas with honey, hot flour tortillas, and bottomless chips, salsa, and soft drinks are included. All for 10 bucks. Hallelujah! The red chile is especially rich and wonderful and the mini-chimis are crispy and delicious. The atmosphere is typical southside, lots of color and murals, and the clientele is a diverse cross-section of Tucson locals in the know. The staff is beyond courteous and polite, checking in often and keeping your drinks and chips brimming. You seriously feel like family at Rigo's.

This place has good mexican food. Doesnt really stand out from any other place in town but it has an all you can eat buffet so i'm sold. They had a good selection of great items. The essentials...beans, rice, ground beef. Made some Tacos. Also made a carnitas tostada. Very tasty. They had Chile colorado which was delicious with some of their fesh tortillas. The mini Chimis were very average. Sopapillas with honey. They also had fixins to make fajitas but i was far too full to try em. Their salsa is watery but fresh. Don't know if i would pay 11+tip again for it but it was good.

I called here recently after moving into the neighborhood to ask about the buffet prices, I was told by the person answering the phone that "I'm new and don't know" and she put the phone down. Several minutes later, she came back to the phone and said the buffet "was about $10 per person" and I asked her what the price was for kids. Once again, put the phone down and then came back several minutes later and said the price "was about $10 per person" and I told her that was odd - the same price for adults and children? She said to me again "I'm new and don't know." Forget it, hung up and never called or went again. If this is the kind of service, not willing to risk it!

I like Rigos food a lot. Awesome chips and salsa. Great big cups of ice tea. Delicious topopo salads and tortilla soups. Wonderful tacos. And the buffet is killer- some of the best buffet food! I like when they have guacamole- all you can eat guac? Heck yeah! The food is prepared very fast and very fresh and delicious and brought out to your table quickly. The chips and salsa become addictive. The wait staff is busy especially during the lunch hour. I don't like how noisy it gets inside Rigos, and how crowded I often feel in there. It's a tight fit in such a large space. The acoustics don't make it pleasant for me to have a good conversation with people in. But the food is top notch and I'm always pleased by the bill. Sometimes I just go light and eat a tasty bean and rice and lettuce burrito or a Calabacitas topopo (mmmmm) for about six bucks. Rigos will divide up the bill so you don't need split checks. That's cool. The buffet is to be experienced if it's your first time. Since I overeat, I usually stick with the menu. This is a very family run business and I love coming back to Rigos over and over! I even got my picture taken with Janet Napolitano here once!

I used to come here a lot. This last time I must say I was a bit dissatisfied. The food was ok not great. In a town like tucson with Mexican restaurants on every corner you better be better than everyone else to get my business. This last time I went the food was ok we dis thw buffet. It used to be around 25 and change. Me and my wife are water drinkers. We took my 5 year old son and they charged me 6.99 for his meal. 5 year olds dont eat that much. For us adults it was 12.99 a piece so alltogether it was 34. And change. After tip it was 40 bucks. I will not be returning again with thier high price spike. If I want to pay that kind of mony ill go to pf changs or something like that. The food is good but thier price has gotten out of hand. Not even golden corral charges that much for kids and they have more selection. Or furrs thier all u can eat for kids is 3.99 with a free drink. I understand prices are going up everywhere but I'm not going to contribute to thier greed. Sorry Rigos I will not be returning, and I will not suggest any of my friends do either. Money talks. It says goodbye.

I grew up in Tucson, but now live in So Florida, and I crave the Cocido from Rigo's. This is a must stop for me everytime I come back home to visit. I also have fond memories of eating there with family. Friendly owners & staff make you feel "at home"

Visiting from CA on business and Yelped to find this amazing place! The food was delicious (buffet was spectacular), people and service was great, no wait and exceptional value. How can one go wrong with that!? Highly recommend - will definitely go back!

We went for lunch on a Monday and all opted for the buffet. Red Chile is my standard test for Mexican restaurants and Rigo's did very well on that test. Chilequiles were also good as was the rest of the buffet. The staff were all friendly. Good food, good value.

I had the lunch buffet. Lots of great items. I went with my daughter and her friend and even picky teenagers loved it. It gets busy on Sundays so get there early or expect a wait. The Mariachis were amazing. I will be back to try the breakfast buffet.

  • Briana C.

Sunday breakfast buffet for a good price. Nothing too spectacular and not many options in the tiny buffet stand, although I did love their chilaquiles! This was the first time I have had them. Very busy and not much room throughout. The mariachi band played but it was difficult to hear amongst the crowd. Microphones would have helped to hear the beautiful voices.

Second time eating here and I still like it. About my only complaint is the prices are a tad high BUT you get a very generous helping of whatever you order. My cheese enchiladas were wonderful. The chips and hot and mild salas were tasty. I like the decor, everyone was pleasant and friendly, and it felt relaxing to be there. I agree with another poster in that the food came awfully fast and you wonder how that was accomplished but it still tasted good to me. lol We will definitely return.

Went yesterday for the breakfast buffet (well I had my sights on the buffet, wife ordered Huevos Rancheros). Very croweded - Sunday morning, but seated relatively quickly. Considering the restaurant was absolutely packed, the service was excellent. The buffet catered to American and Mexican diners. Pancakes, sausage, eggs etc., alongside menudo (red & white), chorizo, chilaquiles, fresh tortillas etc. I can't speak for how the American fare was, I was too engrossed in my menudo. Price is extremely reasonable, one of my favourite restaurants.

Holy Crap! Go Here! It is amazing!!! I always get the carne asada chimi and it does not disappoint. Be hungry, the portions are huge! I try and make it to Rigo's as often as I can :)

Went to Rigo's the other afternoon for an early dinner. Both my husband and I had the buffet and we both were impressed with it. The cost was ~ $10 a person and it included a drink. The place was pretty quiet and staff was attentive and kept our drinks full. Some of the food on the buffet wasn't kept super warm, but the staff was really good about checking on the buffet and refilling items as more people came in. The food itself was delicious! And the buffet was great because you could try a little of everything from meats to mini chimis to soups. You could even make your own tacos and there was a separate bar with guacamole, sour cream and salsa. I would definitely recommend Rigo's and will certainly eat there again :)

Not too bad! We're constantly on the search for great Mexican food, so this morning when we decided that we needed a Mexican breakfast I found Rigo's on Yelp. It was a little out of our way but worth the drive. Apparently the buffet is a big hit, and it did look pretty good; however, neither of us were that hungry. I settled for huevos rancheros, which is my go-to Mexican breakfast dish. My husband had chilaquiles. His review: they were good and the price was fantastic! (We are red chile snobs so we try not to be too judgmental.) We will definitely make the trek to Rigo's again.

Way back in the 90's, there's this great breakfast buffet that charged around 6 dollars per seat. This place called JB's Restaurant went out of business. I waited for the day another good cheap breakfast buffet would land at the Old Pueblo. That day has come with Rigo's. Not only it serves the usual All-American breakfast buffet, it also serve's the All-Mexican breakfast buffet. Two for one at around 6-7 dollars per seat. The food is above average. You can tell that the cooks have years of experience and may even have been trained as chefs - the scrambled eggs are fluffy and bright yellow. The restaurant decor is not bad - not your cheap run down Mexican restaurant.

Gotta have me some Arizona Mexican food. RIgos was my third Mexican food meal in a 3 day AZ visit. I had the buffet. There was a great selection of food including two soups, red chili, tacos, beans, rice and yummy tortillas. The service was pretty good, I'd definitely go again.

The food is great, just like Mom would make. Red chili hast lots of flavor and so is the Green. Frijoles with lots of cheese and home made Tortillas. Good service and Mariachi band playing in the background.

We got there around noon, there was a short line to get in. I was thinking this was gonna be a while but we got seated in about 3 minutes. Sat down and instantly greeted with chips and salsa and the waitress to take our drink order. We ordered an appetizer and it was out in 5 minutes. Thus place was busy and it was extremely quick service, very impressed. We got the food shortly after and the portions were huge. Big plates loaded with Mexican food goodness. Needless to say no one could finish there plate. Then the best part, a ten piece mariachi group started playing. They were awesome. I didn't know what to expect when I was headed down there but I was pleasantly surprised. Great food, I'll definitely be going back.

Moved to Tucson 5 years ago and ate at many Mexican restaurants. We went to a party that Rigo's was catering, later went to their restaurant and have been fans ever since. Any family and friends that come to visit, we take to Rigo's! The Carne Asada Chimichanga are on point! But, my new favorite dish came to me via gluttony. The wife and I went to Rigo's for a date night and this time I gravitated towards the buffet. I saw something out of my parif and...AAAAAAAHHHH like angels singing...shrimp fajitas. MUCHO YUMMIES!!! Everybody likes to go one block north to a not to be named restaurant just because Clinton went there...where hasn't he been. The food sucks, Give me Rigo's any day of the week!

Love coming here for lunch! The mexican buffet for $9.95 is AWESOME. But if you dont want to gorge yourself, order the Carne Asada , I think it's number #7 Combo. I also order the Cosido. Lately it's been cold in Tucson (60's) and their cosido just warms me up. I usually order the large bowl because I know, I wont finish it, but I get to take the rest home for dinner...it is delishhhh!

Rigo's is one of the best in town. Great service, salsa, food and margaritas! They also have a buffet with authentic red chili which is not easy to find - my husband loves it!

I love Rigo's! Not only because Maria (Rigo's wife) and my wife are good friends, but the food is delicious. Just went to brunch there this morning and enjoyed the buffet, complete with eggs, chorizo, chiliquilies and probably the best red menudo (with all the trimmings) in Tucson. Add in the fantastic Marachi band (starts around 10:30am) and you get a true south Tucson experience. My wife would recommend the sour cream enchiladas and I personally love the albondigas soup which is quite hearty (although the menudo is still my favorite). The nay-sayers of this restaurant might have had a bad experience, which could happen anywhere, but we've been there dozens of times and never had anything but a fantastic time and excellent food.

Went in at 1130 on a Saturday and it was completely packed. Waitress managed to find us a table right away, service was great, and the food was good. Didn't try the buffet. Weird diet choices prevent me from eatting most foods out. Ordered two green tamale plate. The beans were better than average, the rice was actually cooked all the way, and the tamales were good. They were a bit dry, and you could taste the sweetness from the corn. Price was pretty good, cheaper than a lot of other places, but better quality. My plate was 8 dollars I believe, and my lunch partner ordered the Janet Napalitano (sp?) for 9 dollars which included my plate plus a cheese enchilada. Overall, 4 star worthy.

I am so critical of my Mexican food being used to and spoiled in Southern New Mexico!! ;-)

We went for lunch on a Monday and all opted for the buffet. Red Chile is my standard test for Mexican restaurants and Rigo's did very well on that test. Chilequiles were also good as was the rest of the buffet. The staff were all friendly. Good food, good value.

right from the start the service was deplorable.

Their food is excellent and their service as well!!! I usually get their White Menudo and my husband gets other items (he doesn't like ANY menudo! :P). I'm giving them 4 stars because they forgot my ground beef in my order to go!! :'( I was already home when I noticed that. I'm sure it was a mistake but I really wanted my ground beef!!! Excellent place! 100 times better than the "presidential" competition down the street!! This is real Mexican food!! Enjoy it!! :D

Strangely enough, I saw an episode of A&E's "Intervention" where a sort of sad and lonely guy came here to meet "friends" and no one showed up. So why not come here? We headed out to South Tucson tonight with the idea of finally trying Micha's, which I had wanted to try for a while. Problem is that Micha's is closed on Mondays. Oh well. Plenty of other places in South Tucson to try: why not Rigo's? Now, Rigo's is caddy-corner to one of my favorite places in the city, Crossroads Cafe, which is excessively cheap, has fantastic food and has one of the best chimichangas I've experienced (yeah, it was an experience). So I have to compare Rigo's to them, if only for the location. We came in and were quickly seated in a restaurant that was maybe 35% full. They had an awkward guy playing awkward keyboard music in the corner, who would stop every once in a while and make it even more awkward because no one would clap. Chips and salsa were brought out immediately, with two varieties: spicy and mild. The mild was full-on red, but the spicy had chunks of tomato, cilantro and onion in it. Spicy it was not, but the cilantro was nice. The mild was more like a fragrant ketchup. In all honesty, the taste was nice, it was just so non-spicy that I had a hard time with both of them. I ordered the "Muy Very Good," a carne asade chimi slopped in enchilada sauce, and served with lettuce and pico. My companion got a red chile burro with rice and beans. The food came out excessively fast. I mean, it was that sort of fast that makes you think that they already had it prepared and just slopped some of the sides and sauces on it. When it came to the red chile burro, it tasted like that too. The tortilla was really dry, the red chile sauce had no spice to it and very little flavor. The beef strangely got a little better as you moved into the center of the burrito, which made me think that it really had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. I also have some experience with red chile burros at other places around town. I would say that, the majority of the time, Nico's is better, but I've had some at Viva that weren't as good. Although it completely depends on the Viva location. Now, of course, I'm comparing this "restaurant" burro with that of fast food but, if you justifiably compare to the red chile burros at some other actual restaurants in town that have it (Mosaic, Sanchez, El Charro, etc.), there's just no contest. My chimi was not awful, but, if I was somewhere that I knew had better food, and got this, I wouldn't get it again. The enchilada sauce slopped on there was definitely homemade (it didn't taste like that stuff you get out of the can) but there was nothing special about it: it didn't have any subtle flavor, no spice, nothing interesting. The chimi itself was that same sort of low-grade or old tortilla that was in my companion's burro, but the fried-ness sort of covered it up a bit more. The carne asada inside tasted more like fajita meat, in that it was grilled on a skillet instead of "asada" as the name implies. Honestly, I've had better carne at Los Betos. Maybe I've just gotten spoiled on Mexican food while living here, because I don't understand why you would eat here when there are so many better places in town. Like I said, try Crossroads, across the street. Prices: a little on the high side for Mexican. My dish was $9 and my companion's was $7.50. For what it was (not even considering that it kind of sucked), it wasn't worth it. Across the street, at Crossroads, the chimi I got runs for about $6. Although it doesn't come with that kick-ass shredded iceberg lettuce on the side. Service: not great. The waiter was nice, but he was a little slow and unattentive. He told us we could pay the check at the table but, after about five minutes of sitting there with the card on the table, we just took it up to the counter. I also asked for more chips at one point, he nodded in understanding, but they never came although, strangely, another bowl of the "spicy" salsa did. So why 2*? Well, the atmosphere was actually pretty nice, and the food wasn't necessarily bad. I've been home for an hour or so, and haven't gotten sick, which is definitely a good sign. I mean, I think if you're looking for a place to take, say, your 70-year-old grandmother from Michigan who thinks of "Mexican food" as On the Border or some other complete, disgusting garbage, then go for it. Because, then, yeah, it'll be an improvement. But go to other places on the south side, or even more in the city (hell, El Charro even beats this place, hands down) and it's just way, way better. There's just no reason for this.

But, that's only on Sundays. ;)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
