I've been coming to this Olive Garden for years and the service is always, meh, ok. It seems like they've cleaned house and gotten a completely new staff and it is QUITE noticeable!! The hosts were welcoming and held the doors. But what most impressed us was our server, Jose E. He was beyond phenomenal and went above and beyond in every aspect of our visit. He was funny and informative, unlike the service we usually experience here. Olive Garden, I don't know what you're doing but keep it up!! Your staff is amazing :) And keep it up, Jose! You are awesome!

I decided to visit the Olive Garden after seeing an ad offering free select meals to veterans on Veteran's Day. Since I'm a veteran and the promise of a free lunch sounded too good, I decided to break my 15 year streak of avoiding the Olive Garden. I do hold grudges against businesses if they present a bad enough experience. Olive Garden was particularly egregious in their conduct towards me 15 years ago and their reputation since then has been a downward spiral. During that period, you could literally pick up any news paper and read stories of Olive Garden's degenerate reputation through the use of poor quality, high prices, and abysmal customer service. Even Wall Street turned on the chain and a new regime has since taken power. Nonetheless, times can change and businesses can exhibit a turnaround. I'm not saying this is definitively the case with Olive Garden as a whole, but this particular chain offers hope. Ashley M., our server, was excellent; she was friendly and patient as my wife took longer than the average guest to decide on our order. I would give her five stars. We ordered the Crispy Risotto Bites, Ravioli di Portobelllo, and the Garlic Rosemary Chicken. For the price, every entree was just what I would have expected and nothing tasted as if it had been frozen. The sauce for the Garlic Rosemary Chicken was particularly good, making the dish taste much better than something under 600 calories. Many complaints I've had regarding the Olive Garden have since vanished. For $11, you can get free bread sticks, unlimited salad or soup, and a great entree for lunch. Many reviews talk about something better from a local Italian joint. And it is true that you can often find that one gem that provides excellent food, good portions, great service, and low prices. However far too often, I have been extremely disappointed by the mom and pop competition (see my review for Dominick's). What could Olive Garden do better? I would love to see the bread sticks replaced with real bread and olive oil for dipping, the soup was slightly watered down, and the portions were a bit small for the price (making the meal fairly valued rather than a good value). Finally, while I am not complaining about the service, one could interpret the experience as being a bit rushed. In sum, good job Olive Garden; you just might be on the right track.

I don't understand why people still come to this restaurant. I have not been here in years and actually liked their food. After seeing the commercials of some of the new entrees that are being offered I was excited to try. I was excited to try their shrimp caprese alfredo. After seeing the commercials and pictures i was thinking to myself, "boy am i in for a treat". I could never be more wrong. When looking at the picture of the entree in the menu and finally receiving it in person, sorry to say that it looked like it was a microwavable dish. The shrimp were tiny, they were rock shrimp and didnt mention that on the menu. Paying 14.99 for tiny shrimp and pasta was way overpriced. The sauce was lumpy and hardly any basil and tomato. That is what makes the dish, basil and tomato. Our service was great, good staff but the food really has gone downhill from the last time i have been here. There are plenty of other Italian places around town that i will be visiting and sorry to say Olive Garden does not make my cut. Take my advice, get the soup, salad and breadsticks because this is the only thing worthy of paying for.

It's my favorite restaurant. I love the food, the endless salads and breadsticks are addicting, and the Peach Raspberry Iced Tea is amazing. The service is always good, I have no complaints about this place. I love it!

OMG Olive Garden again - survival on another road trip. Decent food, reliable - but really rather expensive for what they offer.

Everyone has been to an Olive Garden and knows the food alwasy tastes the same. So obviously the food is the usual goodness. But the service here could use some work. The hostess is not the right person for that job, while waiting for a table I heard her be rude, short, and sarcastic with 3 different people asking for a table. Saying things like, "of course we take reservations!" with a tone in her voice like the customer was stupid. Wrong person to have greeting your guests! Just sub par service, not a fan.

I called Olive Garden with a request to host an after memorial service gathering. I spoke with James, presumably one of the managers since that is what he said he was, and he said the time slot was available and that we needed to come in the following morning to work out the menu that would be served. My husband, who took time off of work, and myself took time out of our busy schedule of preparing a memorial service and work to go to the scheduled meeting. We asked to speak with the manager to work out the required details and were greeted by Joel who said he was the manager. This was confusing since James said he was the manager and we went through the same series of questions that we had done over the phone with James the night before. Joel stated he needed to check his schedule and would be right back. He then comes back and tells us that he unfortunately will not be able to accommodate us since there was another memorial service at the same time with the same number of people being serviced that day. We were not sure if it was the our party under a different name or if it was just pure ignorance and poor organization, but it left us with 24 hour to find another venue. No remorse was shown by the staff for the mix up and how they can have two managers with neither knowing what the other one is doing is completely baffling. Either way I will never recommend or return to this facility!

Who doesn't love their endless delicious breadsticks and salad? I certainly do love it. Parmesan and garlic laced chewy breadsticks and Italian dressed salad, yes please! I always like to try something new when I arrive but I usually settle for their seafood alfredo which always hits the spot. Dip some bread sticks into that left over sauce and YUM! I don't venture here often taken as the prices are steep for what you could make cheap at home, entree wise. But when I'm craving those breadsticks, I find myself driving subconsciously to Olive Garden. If you haven't yet, try their seafood alfredo and thank me later!

Consistently good food. Service is good unless they get very busy. I do love their soup and salad meal with breadsticks. We celebrate family birthdays here.

After waiting anxiously for 10 days to get a day off of work to go and eat at the Olive Garden for the first time, I took my husband and my four daughters down to the location by the mall! as we walked in there must have been 30 people standing in the front waiting to be seated! I ask the lady if there be a long wait she said about 25 to 30 minutes after about 15 minutes of waiting she came and got us and seated us at the bar mind you I have a 13 year old, a 12 year old, an 11 year old, & a 4 year old daughter I don't think it's appropriate for us to be sitting at a bar but we went there to enjoy dinner we do not drink and to top it off we were not seated together there were three to four people in between almost each of us! we ordered our food when she brought the bread sticks they were hard and dark brown the salad was all iceberg was big chunks of white lettuce after about 25 minutes our food came but the food for my 4 year old daughter did not all she ordered was a kids lasagna and an order of grapes I asked the waitress not once not twice but three times within a 15 to 20 minute time frame what was going on with her food and she said she would check and never came back finally after 30 minutes my daughter was delivered her food.. It was old looking.. the service was horrible our waitress was rolling her eyes everytime I ask a question it was disgusting food and disgusting service I will never go there again...

I went to Olive Garden expecting a mediocre experience and I was pleasantly surprised. We had the best server, Bryce. What a cutie! After telling him I wanted the meat sauce and 3 (instead of 2) big meatballs he winked and meowed at me. Yes meowed, like a tiger, and went on his way. He was funny, witty and made sure everything was perfect for us. Even if I don't recommend this place for the food, I would go back for service.

How do you mess up pasta? They answered that pretty easily with to much butter and over cooked noodles. I heard about Olive garden several times but never really went before. Stuffed mushrooms were bland fried kalamari was too bready. There was supposed to be unlimited bread and salad but the service was awful. Over priced poor food. At least I got full and didn't get sick from it. Two stars

Oh Olive Garden, I would have five-starred you back when I didn't know there were more options in the world... Anyways. I got a gift card for Olive Garden and never used it until ordering some take out this evening. I got the gluten free pasta, and I'd just like to mention that the server was exceptionally respectful of a gluten sensitivity. I got a salad without croutons, even! So that was a plus, but the pasta itself was pretty lackluster. Oh well, it's what I expected. Stay classy, Olive Garden. I freaking love your breadsticks and eat them even with a gluten sensitivity.

I'm generally a fan of Olive Garden's, and their lunch time soup and salad special can't be beat in terms of value. The OG in the Tucson Mall is fairly standard as far as the national chain goes. The service I had at the most recent visit was exceptional... the server refilled our drinks, soups, and salads regularly and was friendly throughout the visit. The quality of the food is consistent with other restaurants in the chain, and I've always been pleased with any orders we've had there. It's no local Italian gem, but it's reasonably good food.

First, I am generally not a fan of the Olive Garden as a chain. The other restaurant we had set out for was closed (it was a holiday) and we were famished so we literally pulled into the next decent-looking place that we could find open, which was the Olive Garden. We were seated immediately and ordered the dinner for two. The couple at the table next to ours kept pulling up tunes on their phones and playing them for each other, complete songs, loud enough to be heard several tables away. We said nothing but it would have been nice if their server had asked them to keep it down. The bread sticks were as addictive as usual. The salad was a little limp and could have used more dressing. I had the Five Cheese Ziti and my friend had the Tuscan Garlic Chicken. Both dishes were just above average, brought quickly and there was plenty to eat. The White Chocolate Raspberry cheesecake tasted like it had been frozen instead of fresh, kind of an odd consistency. The best thing about our experience was our server, Brad. It was near the end of the evening and sometimes in that final hour servers look fatigued and like they just want to get out of the restaurant and go home (you know what I mean, right)? Brad was cheerful, energetic, funny and right on top of everything as if he were just beginning the day. That is, in my opinion, excellent service.

It's Olive Garden. I get it, a cookie cutter stamp of corporate restaurant chains. But I take comfort in that I can walk into an Olive Garden and it's going to be the same experience the majority of the time. The excellent service was the instance that gave this particular place the 4th star. I dig nice, friendly people.

Excellent service first of all. Have never been to an Olive Garden and NOT received excellent service. The food is ALWAYS good. Served hot, made to order and always tasty. Servers consistently provide refills on everything without being asked. Normally on weekends its packed so be ready to wait awhile ...

I don't get the hype about Olive Garden. It's never been a particularly Must-Do for me but I have relatives that are hardcore dedicated to it. Visited here last Sunday - we called ahead & requested a wheelchair accessible table and were seated immediately upon arrival about 30 minutes later in a nice little niche away from the rest of the crowd. Our waitress was very attentive and everything was delivered in a timely manner to the table after ordering or a specific request. I'm pretty 'meh' about the tastes-just-like-microwaved-breadsticks, but they and the salad were indeed, endlessly restocked. My mom and I both had the Pomodoro Cappelini - it was good but nothing to food-gasm over. The menu describes it as "Roma tomatoes, garlic, fresh basil and extra-virgin olive oil tossed with capellini". Yep, noodles with crushed tomatoes. Maybe it's just me - but I can never get excited when someone mentions the food here. So three stars for the quick, attentive service and the Bella Limonata (lemonade, pomegranate & pineapple juice w/fresh limes).

I know, it's olive garden. Salad and breadsticks and you can't go wrong. But the service should get 10 stars! I went with a girlfriend and our 4 kids under the age of 5. Not an easy task, as any parent knows. Rigel was beyond amazing! Speedy, attentive, efficient and happy! He had refills and napkins at the table before we could even ask. Seriously phenomenal! I'll be back for the service alone.

Was out with my friend running errands and ended up here bout 730pm, she called ahead (highly recommended on a weekend night) and were seated within 10 minutes of arriving as promised. Restaurant was busy...and things seemed a bit dis-jointed. We both wanted to try a Pinot Grigio...but alas after a tad to long a wait...they were out. We decided to sample the house white....meh...it was okay. We both ordered the soup/salad/sticks...and were in a bit of a time crunch...and the waitress expedited all three to our table at the same time. It was good as usual, the breadsticks were way fresh and yummy! We did order a frufru drink....and the waitress told us the bartender was making it....... after what seemed like an eternity...I muttered to my foodmate "Dear Lord, in what country is that bartender?" which made her laugh....It was a bit of a brutal wait...the drink was decent (pineapple and cherry juice, and vodka) and went down easy since it was so sweet. Bottom line is, OG is a great place, but the peak times are a bit overwhelming. Go before 6pm or after 8pm, or plan ahead and have loads of time.

horrible unflavorful food. The only thing that have flavor was the salad and there was so much vinegar i couldnt eat it. The portions have gotten very small. Sausage penne was so watery and unflavorful. My son had the alfredo and it was sticky and had no flavor. My Fiance had some seafood plate and the portion was tiny. I asked where the rest of it was. Ive never been a fan of olive garden and now I know I will not be returning. Funny how portions get smaller and prices go higher

First, I've read through many of the reviews to get a feel for what others are saying. There were some good and bad and the focus seems to be food and service. Honestly, that is what I'm focused on as well. We've been coming here rather regularly and I love that they are able to meet substitution requests. We had a craving for the Tour of Italy and I always substitute off the lasagna for some of that amazing eggplant. I admit that I usually get the blank face or the near on eye-roll when I ask this even though I always say I'm willing to pay extra. Sometimes I do and sometime I don't. Tonight was a "don't" night with the most amazing twist. Robert greeted us almost before the hostess left and talked about wine and appetizers like I've never heard before. I am not a drinker, but I will say he made it sound amazing. Moving on from there, he started talking about some salad fixings (he called it something else and I can't remember) and we took him up on one as it sounded incredible. Imagine my surprise to find out that they've been around for a while. More importantly, he smiled from the get-go and almost seemed excited to make the substitution I asked for. That's a new one for me in any restaurant! All of this and his constant visits to ensure we were doing well would have been more than sufficient for me to give that 5 star rating. But that isn't even where it stopped. We were sat right next to a computer where they put in orders and so on and I saw several ask him for help on things and could only hear bits of it. He was friendly and smiling and seemed like the real go-to guy for everyone I saw. Then there were the tables around us. Not only was he friendly and laughing with his tables, I saw him at any number of tables that I realized weren't even his. This is the attitude and personality I would hope everyone is looking for in their employees. Normally I get the pushy people who just want to get us in and get us out and want to sneak looks at the tip before we manage to get out the door in case they want to give us dirty looks. I've never been so impressed outside of some serious fine-dining places where you find the expertise, but not the rapport. We were talking about how salt and pepper shakers were supposed to be positioned for blind people and he heard us. That conversation told me he knows this business inside and out and I learned a few things myself. I can't brad enough about the experience and would suggest anyone who reads this ask for him and tell him we sent you so he knows we did the survey (here's hoping for some gift cards...lol) and that we really appreciated the whole experience. Bravo!!

Way too cold. I love olive garden but i will never go to this location. They have the ac set way to low. 3 other customers were complaining about the child during our visit and still they do nothing about it. This wasn't a one time thing it's like that every time.

    (1)
  • Jen W.

The salad is still wonderful. The breadsticks are still hard in the outside. The pasta is still too al dente and is not even as good as Barilla. The portions are still huge. The sauces are still a bit off. Maybe will go again next year?

  • Stef H.

We came here as it was closing and lucky for us the bar was wide open. The bartender was absolutely charming. She let us sample wines and gave us a rundown what was good. We grabbed the shrimp and asparagus to go and it was delicious. Honestly this particular Olive Garden seemed rather modern compared to the ones I've been to in the past 10 years. We'd go back.

We have eaten as a group at this particular Olive Garden over the years and have never been disappointed. Some times the wait period is longer that I would like but that is an indicator to me that it is a good place to eat!!! Had 7 of us, requested separate tickets and the waitress said it was not a problem at all (I have been to some places where any group over 6 has to be on one ticket ONLY - when told this, I have gotten up said "sorry" and walked out!!) any how, this has never been a problem for us at Olive Garden!!! We had a very delightful little waitress, very much on the ball. Of course it's all you can eat salad and bread sticks and since it was a packed house on a Sunday night, the food orders took a little longer, but she kept our salads and bread sticks, water and ice tea coming until she did get our food order delivered, gave us all plenty of chit chat time!! Of course I don't think Olive Garden puts out any bad food, I have always been satisfied and have gone home full. This will remain on our schedule for Sunday night dinners out.

I am a fan of the Olive Garden for the same reasons as everyone else, the endless bowls of soup, salad and bread sticks but what I really prefer is ordering take out! I call the order in twenty minutes before I want it picked up and my husband drives by on his way home! What could be simpler than that! The food arrives on my table as pretty as it would look being served in the restaurant and hot enough to be eaten without reheating. Their take out packaging is sturdy and soups come in a container with a lid so if you don't finish it, the leftovers fit nicely in the refrigerator. I have ordered plenty of take out from other places where the bags and containers inside are greasy or the food slops out the sides...not the case with Olive Garden. I appreciate being able to eat a satisfying meal at my table that I didn't have to cook! We generally order the lasagna and spaghetti with meatballs. It comes with soup or salad and plenty of bread sticks. It takes good and you can count on it tasting what you remember each time. There is enough food to feel like you ate too much but there's lunch for tomorrow so it is a good value.

My girlfriend and I go in occasionally and find it great because the food is always the same. Recently, when visiting this location we found their hidden gem! The gem is a server named Eddie. What a find let me tell you. If you go in (I think he works Wednesday through Sunday) you HAVE to ask for his section! This guy will make your experience perfect. Even if we're on the other side of town we'll drive to this location to enjoy his great service! I warn you though, once Eddie has served you, you will want no other! If you wait a couple extra minutes it is time WELL SPENT! ! !

Olive Garden is a chain, it is true, and they do not particularly cater to vegetarians(try asking about the ingredients of menu items, that will really flummox them). And, they are usually really busy, so you might have to wait a bit for a table. But overall, when I think about all the restaurants I've tried in Tucson, Olive Garden is right up there in the top three. They are THE most consistent sit-down restauarant I've ever been to - the prices are reasonable, especially for vegetarians, and they seem to have hit on a combination of well-prepared, consistently good food(sometimes great), pretty good atmosphere, decent pricing, and , well, that's it. But that is enough for me - I know when I go toOG for dinner, that I will get exactly what I expect, every time. Congratulations to them, it's not an easy thing to achieve. Four Stars!

I don't think I've been to an Olive Garden since I was 5 years old, but we stumbled upon this Olive Garden in Tucson today when we were very hungry and there wasn't much besides chain restaurants around us. My pasta was actually pretty good. However, the service was horrendous. The waitress tried to remember it all without writing it down (if you don't have a good memory please just write it down!) and just couldn't seem to get it straight. At least she was very nice about it, which made me feel bad about getting frustrated.

I usually don't frequent chain restaurants such as Olive Garden. This location though has great service. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. When you can have genuine conversations with employees that has nothing to do about the reason you are there, then you know people are going the extra steps to make it a experience. I will always prefer local when it comes to italian, but at least you know the quality and quantity of food to expect. This location is on the north side of Wetmore and in front of the Tucson Mall.

Terrible food and service. Waited way to long for our food to show up. I ordered the Tour of Italy. The lasagna was okay, but way too soggy. The chicken parmigiana (or whatever its called) was very dry, and the blandness of the pasta alfredo was mind boggling. Everything is so overpriced too, its clear that the restaurant only cares about maximizing profit and forgot about its standards. What would Gordon Ramsay say? "Bland, distasteful, its such a shame".

Why do you have to wait when no one is eating? I had to suffer through about 9 months of this junk while my wife was pregnant and craving their Deep fried (!) Chicken Parm. Real fans of Italian don't do Olive Garden.

So, for whatever reason I'm a big Darden restaurants fan (Red Lobster, Olive Garden). I know some people deride their food quality, etc., but I've always had a good time at most of their locations. It's been years (pre-Yelp) since I've been to this location, and time has not been kind. The decor definitely looks like it hasn't had an update since it opened, which as I recall was quite a while ago. It's cheesy, like most corporate places, but that doesn't age well. This is also the first time I can say I've been to a Darden restaurant and not gotten a friendly server. There was no smile, and even the canned spiel seemed to come through gritted teeth. She tried to upsell, as I know they are trained to, but it didn't feel like she was trying to expand our experience, it felt like I was at a car lot being sold undercoating. At several points, I felt she got downright pushy. Food was just meh. I mean, that's what you expect at a corporate place, but it was extra-meh. Even the wondrous breaksticks, which can usually save any OG experience, were dry and tasted a little old. I went to the restroom, and the staff were up front kicking back with the hostess. I know it was slow, and that's what happens, but usually not where guests can see. Worse yet, the manager was kicking it with them. That made the root of the other problems apparent. Complacency is the rot that will eventually take down any establishment, and it always starts from the top down. I guess maybe from an experience only point of view, they could've gotten three stars, but it was the attitude I witnessed that knocks them down. I hope the regional manager comes down soon rights the ship before it sinks.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
