service was attentive but not overbearing reasonable portions for reasonable price We had vegetarian egg rolls which were super hot and obviously freshly made... not that old pickly tasting cabbage like some places. Our entrees were with fresh ingredients, albeit repetitive. Pad Thai was freshly made and if not extraordinary in flavor or ingredients, the quality of the ingredients made that ok. The green curry w/ chicken and pad grawprow(sp) were exactly the same but with different sauces... The menu basically describes many of the dishes the same with different sauces, but my experience is that those two dishes are of different ingredients besides different sauces. The point is we will go back because we felt the quality of our dinner was good and it is a convenient location for a Thai "fix".

Review is purely on the food (we ordered takeout). Portions were really small for the price. The beef was rubbery, like it had been boiled too long, and tasted of freezer burn. I tasted no tamarind in the pad thai - in fact, the pad thai tasted unlike any pad thai I've ever had, and not in a good way. The worst dish was this chicken with peanut butter sauce with basil. It was just not edible, and again, I've never seen this kind of Thai food preparation anywhere.... not in any of the hundreds of Thai restaurants in Chicago, and not in Thailand. We will not return to this restaurant.

Just plain disappointing. Is there a decent Thai restaurant in Tucson? Help.

Sorry Mina, but only 2-Stars. The owners are very nice, the food -is- 'authentic' as the full name (Mina's Authentic Thai Cuisine) conveys . . . but, again . . . the Pad Thai (while better than Thai China Bistro), is not even close to the 'best' Pad Thai I've had (and, no lime?). Mina has a good menu, other items -are- good (not great) . . . but, the seasoning for Pad Thai, is still off, somehow.

I really hate doing this, but I believe maybe my review will be a catalyst for the owner or the chef to figure out how to bring out the best of what Thai food is all about. A bunch of girl friends chose to go go to Mina's because of it's convenient location and seemed like a nice place to have a fun afternoon with some good Thai food with a bunch of lady friends. There was a decent size lunch menu but most of us ordered either the Pad Thai or Green Curry with Tofu. All the lunch orders come with an egg roll and some type of cabbage soup. Starting with the soup, mine was luke warm and tasteless. Not a good sign so far. The egg roll was soggy to say the least about it. My Green Curry tasted like old dishpan water with raw green peppers and some beans. I just ate the white rice with the tofu on top of the rice to get some protein into my body. One of the gals could not eat her Pad Thai at all. We tried not to grumble too much. I always try to be fair and honest. I really believe they can do better. It used to be a good place with a good reputation. My visit today does not reflect that. Please try to improve.

Ordered takeout and was sorely disappointed. Portions were small and the food: bland. Will not go back.

My tried and true Thai-food favorites: chicken satay & karee yellow coconut curry w/ chicken... weak, watery curry, bland chicken satay. I really want to like this place because I live so close but there are so many other Thai options in Tucson with spectacular food and generous portion sizes that I just can't justify going here anymore. I've been let down on three different occasions, I guess something just isn't "working" at their River Road location.

I was jonesing for Thai and searching for the closest, found Mina's via UrbanSpoon (for the iPhone users out there). I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised at this welcoming little restaurant hidden in the River Center Shopping Center on the NE corner of Craycroft & River. I have traveled extensively through Thailand and Asia (eating more than my share as I go) and Mina's is about as good as you'll find for authentic Thai stateside. The spring rolls were made fresh after ordering and were delicious. For an entree, I tried their "Hot & Spicy Combination" (chicken & shrimp in a light green curry) and loved it. My only disappointment was the absence of sticky rice & mangoes on the desert menu. A little less spendy would have earned Mina's my 5th star for value...

pretty good. I had the gangaree curry super hot, and added a bit more of their scrumptious hot sauce. I thought it was almost too hot, but it was also delicious. their brown rice is excellent. the only issue was that there was only one waitress and one cook, so everything took forever. and their green tea isn't the best in town, for sure. but, for a relatively cheap, delicious lunch, I was satisfied.

I was very disappointed with my experience here. I was craving Thai while staying at the Loews Resort in town. My yelp search yielded this place and we were on our way. Our waitress was the most obnoxious part of our meal. She came over and insisted that leaving my purse on the ground would lose me money. I replied to her that I had heard this before but did not believe in it. She insisted, despite my response. She also came over to inform us that she is Mina (the namesake)'s daughter in-law. I think she said this to prove something to us, which was unnecessary and weird. Finally, she informed us that eating yellow curry cured her personal bout of cancer. I find such statements ridiculous and offensive. The food was not good, either. I ordered the red curry at a medium plus spicy level. The chicken was rubbery and low quality. There were peas in it which was not listed on the menu and I had to douse it in curry powder and hot sauce to give it some sort of flavor. I wouldn't go back here or suggest it.

Gave it my standard Thai restaurant pineapple fried rice taste test. OK, nothing special, boring. Mostly a lot of chicken slices, some pineapple pieces, a few cashews, and one or two shrimp. The "hot" wasn't hot. I'm spoiled by great California Thai places like these: yelp.com/search?find_des… I might give it another try since everyone else seems to like it. Add: Tried it again, green curry lunch special. Not bad not great. Added another star.

The food is just meh. We used to go here because it was close to my sister's and we like thai food. We'll never go back, however. My sister went to this restaurant with her 2 kids; the owner initially refused to get my sister a high chair because supposedly her kids were too messy when they ate there the time before. She wanted my sister to leave her youngest daughter in the stroller and only agreed to get the high chair if my sister promised to personally feed her (though my youngest niece is quite capable of feeding herself). Now, I know kids can drop food, but my sister is no cheapskate. I know she tips quite handsomely for the extra work it takes to clean up the table. My sister would have left, but she has 2 kids; once you land somewhere you gotta get something productive done. As always, the food was nothing to call home about. My sister asked for the check early to expedite the eventual 20-30 minute ordeal of leaving the restaurant with 2 young kids and packing them up safely in the car. However, it was clear that she and her kids were still eating. The owner of the place grabbed the plates off the table, literally pulling the plate out from underneath the fork of one of my nieces. My sister informed her that they were still eating; the owner left the stacked plates/food in the middle of the table. How boorish! Don't go here if you have kids, know a kid, or love a kid. The owner is a heartless person who should take classes in manners.

I usually go to Saing Thai for Thai food in Tucson, but this time decided to try Mina's since it was closer. Had Pad Thai (takeout). Unfortunately, the flavor didn't resemble anything I had in decades of eating Thai. The only thing that eventually saved it from the thrash was a healthy dose of Sriracha (and hunger). At best, I'd call it a Pad Thai-inspired dish. Very disappointed in this restaurant, and feeling sorry not to have checked Yelp before going.

It makes me sad to eat bad food....and one night I ate bad food. Tom Yum Soup tasted like salt + water plus very dry chicken. Red Thai Curry had peas! A little Chinesey, dont you think? The only good thing about it was that it was spicy....so that drowned out any bad taste the curry could have. The restaurant smelled good, very fragrant with lemon-grass.....but food didn't taste as good as it smelled. :(

The service is always great and the food is fantastic. My favorite Thai place in all of Tucson.

I have been going to this restaurant for a good number of years and over time it has gotten worse and worse. The eggrolls used to be amazing but now they are much smaller and not nearly as tasty. Same thing with the rest of the dishes which now are much smaller and lack much flavor. Also, they don't even have limes in their restaurant. How can you eat Pad Thai without lime? And this is a Thai restaurant. And the owner who used to be nice and would talk to us now doesn't say a word. And this is not an exaggeration. The last time I went here she literally did not say one single word to us. Really? I have no clue what we did to make her so angry with us that she can't say a simple "hello" or "how are you?". I mean, we are giving her business so I do not understand why she can't be nice. And maybe if this happened one time I would understand but it has happened on numerous occasions. It just doesn't seem worth it to go back and be treated this poorly so I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Minas used to be great. But lately the portions have got smaller, blander and more expensive. The Pad Thai i ordered the last two times were HORRIBLE!! It was devoid of any flavor.

  • Laura M.

Bland...nothing exciting. The Pad Thai was pretty bland and the portions are pretty small considering the price. I was also hoping they would have Pad Si Eu, but no luck. Still on my hunt for the best Thai food in Tucson!

Very good. Fresh, clean food. Affordable as well. Two entrées & two beers. Under $35. Try the green curry. Fantastic. Pad Thai could use fresh lime though....

1 out of 3 items on the menu were not available. I asked for lemon in my water. No lemons is what the server said. I asked for a Phuket Beer. No Phuket Beer is what the server said. I asked for a #20 (stir fried chicken, onion, garlic, green bell pepper). Instead I get a bowl of boiled chicken, green bell peppers, mushrooms, ginger, and some miniature looking corn on the cob. I told the server and she shrugged her shoulders and brought me a little saucer of marinated garlic. My date paid the over priced bill of $47 (2 beers, 1 glass of wine, two entrees $9.95 each). I tipped a not so generous $5. I tip well for the good service. The server made the "chef" bus and serve the tables, while the server sat and read magazines and sipped a dark colored beverage in a jar. I didn't finish my meal as it tasted disgusting. Ginger is a strong spicy root and boiled mushroom smells like rank hot ass in the middle of July. No Yummy for my tummy at Mina's Thai... Poor service, Over priced, Inferior Ingredients, and Repugnant Food!

I read a glowing review in the paper, and it always smells really good when I go to the library. But we were really surprised at how totally ordinary and blah the food was. The sauces were thin and too runny, the veg were wilted and looked old, and the meat was thin and rubbery. We were very disappointed. Maybe the chef called in sick that day.

This place is great! The owner is very nice and both he and his staff knew the menu inside and out. They catered to our every need and suggested some wonderful dishes! The food was fast and fresh! This place is hands down the cleanest Thai restaurant in town! I live close by and didn't even know this place existed! The pricing is very reasonable.... 3 full meals, an appetizer, and cocktails for $55. I will absolutely be back!!

I am shocked that this place has yet to be discovered. I noticed it on my way to the library and gave it a try. Hands down the best Thai in Tucson. When we got there the place was empty so we were a bit nervous but we found nothing to be nervous about and it was shortly after 5 when we got there. We started with the chicken satay. I was great, the peanut sauce was tasty and the other sauce that can with it was delicious, the two together was real tasty. I ordered something never thought I would and that was won ton soup in a Thai place, it was the only soup that was for one or two and I wanted soup. Well it was the best won ton soup I have ever had. The broth was so flavorful, the won tons were hand made, it had scallions, cilantro, and fresh spinach. I swear it was so fresh and tasty I am craving it now. We ordered the Panang curry that was sosososos tasty. It was unlike any panang I have ever had, which leads me to believe it was home made also. The presentation was nicer than most Thai spots and this could be the neighborhood but it was nice. Mina herself was there and was such a sweet woman that gave us excellent service. The place is small and did fill up before we left. I feel such relief now that I have found a Thai spot in this city that actually doesn't use instant rice. The one thing that impressed me the most was that we asked for Thai hot and got it. They didn't bring out some mild dish, and on top of the spice being perfect the gentleman who I assume is Mina's husband offered to bring out more peppers for us if it wasn't hot enough. It's like he listened! I am sold on MIna Thai.

O.K. , let me preface this by saying I am spoiled by .S.F. Thai and have yet to find a Thai place in Tucson I would go back to, let alone recommend . The search continues -however... I went to MIna's for lunch and had the yellow curry - the eggroll was huge and super greasy and there was enough generic rice for a family of 4 (I was solo) The actual dish was the color of coconut milk with very little curry flavor and a ton of white onions and white potatoes with a few pieces of chicken. The Thai tea was the only enjoyable component of the meal. When the waitress exclaimed "isn't my husband just the best cook?" I had to look away and mumble inaudibly because I couldn't look her in the eye. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing as they seemed to do a brisk take-out business while I was there, but then again, there aren't many restaurants way up in that corner of town for nearby workers I suspect.

I've eaten here a couple times and the first time was a positive experience, the second a year later was very different. We ordered Tom Ka Gai, and although Pad See Yew wasn't on the menu they told us if we didn't mind a different form of noodles they'd make it for us so kudos on the service however, it came out very greasy and not at ALL what Pad See Yew should taste like. We ordered medium hot and it was more like flaming hot and we couldn't taste much else. The sauce wasn't the sweet soy that I'm used to and there were no veggies that I recall. The soup was ehh.. again not the flavor I'm used to and very very hot. Seems as though they use the hot spice to compensate for lack of flavor. Unfortunate that I will not be returning as the quaintness and proximity to home are desirable.

I have eaten at several Thai restaurants in Tucson. In my opinion, this is the best. I love the Gang garee. The egg rolls are absolutely amazing as well. It is a nice family-run business. It's a hidden treasure. If I were to have one last meal before I died, it would be the gang garee and eggrolls. Yum.

Both times I have been to Mina's I was disappointed. I am vegetarian so the first time I ordered pad thai with tofu, and a vegetable curry. When I got it home the pad thai was truly bland and barely any tofu to be found. Also I had asked for peanuts on the side and received none. The curry was ok but the vegetables were mostly bell peppers. I went back recently with my daughter who was finishing her Karate class next door (see Black Belt for Life for that review!) and was really hungry. Mina herself was there, playing solitaire at one of the dinner tables and took my order. I asked her if they have Pad Zi yew (spelling??) she said they do not but that she would make it for me but that it would be with thin noodles instead of wide ones. I agreed this was fine and asked for it with fried tofu. I repeated that I would like the tofu fried when she read it back to me. When I got home I could not believe my eyes. There was just a mound of noodles totally stuck together with some egg tossed in and the tofu was NOT fried but worst of all, there was NO SAUCE of any kind, whatsoever! it was just a sticky dry heap of noodles with some broccoli bits and soft tofu.

Service was very poor - waitress had no clue of the menu, food was just ok...Felt like a mall takeout place not real restaurant.

Tiny portions, terrible service, mediocre food. We tried it a couple of times because we live so close, initially giving Mina the benefit of the doubt. No more. Our Thai friend told us about China-Thai. They have much better food with bigger portions and they deliver.

My husband and I have had a good experience with this restaurant. We usually ordered the Gangaree curry with the Thai sweet tea (often for takeout), and it was never disappointing. I suppose if you are used to a certain style of Thai, you may not like it, but it's certainly worth a try. Mina was also very nice.

Very good! They also have brown rice, but not always which is the only real dissapointment. Sometimes the service is slow, but they are very nice which helps. Coconut ice cream is soooo yummy and it really is one serving so if you order don't plan on sharing. (I kind of like having my own dessert for a change).

Mina's is a great little place. Everytime I go, i order something different and so far, so good. Great curry and satay dishes and the best pad thai I've had in a long time. The only downside is that service is sometimes slow on weekends. Even still, I highly recommend this place!
