NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE!! I am officially over this place. For years we went out of our way to support this Tucson tradition by buying $50 birthday cakes 5 or 6 times a year. Theses days the service stinks and the cakes are nothing spectacular. Last time I was there picking up my $50 cake, they would not sell me a cookie for my 5 year old because there is a $6 min on debit cards.. in the old days they would give the kids a cookie just to see them smile... bye bye Le Caves !!!

How can people write a bad review for a doughnut? Love their empanadas, they are so buttery and flaky, with delicious fillings, mango, pineapple, apple, pumpkin. Even My grandparents remember Le Cave's bakery when they were younger! It's not the most glamorous of places, but they make up for it with their cases of beautiful pastries!

Le Cave has amazing light, airy, and moist donuts. These are really, really, really good donuts. The dough is out of this world good, avoiding most donut stores' pitfalls of being too heavy and too fried tasting. My favorites are the regular glazed and cinnamon apple.

I went here because I have been looking for a good place to buy donuts in Tucson. I have gone to several small places and the experiences were just awkward. I read a review that said these were gluten free so I went to check it out. These are NOT gluten free. They are made with potato flour but some wheat flour is used as well. Luckily for me my intolerance is not severe so I was still able to enjoy this place. It was great and any place that has mango anything wins me over. I tried a mango filled donut and it was amazing!

Best donuts I have ever had. A bit odd since they are hole-less but that just means more delicious donut to enjoy. Vegan friendly also a huge plus.

Nom nom nom! I eat donuts about twice a year and when I have a choice of where that donut is coming from its Le Cave's. Delicious! Local! Vegan! Not that I care about the vegan thing but it makes me feel like I'm eating something healthy because vegan food is all healthy, right? Right? Anyway, this morning I had a chocolate glazed and half of an apple fritter. The chocolate glazed wasn't overly chocolatey which is nice because you can get a taste of the donut itself. The fritter had a nice balance of crispy and soft, with the occasional apple piece. I haven't gotten to the pumpkin empanada yet because I'm full, but I know they're pretty good from past experience. I would give this place more stars but for the fact that the state of the building makes me wonder if there might not be some asbestos in my donut. I mean, they need to do some renovations pretty badly - one shouldn't feel bad if they pass this place thinking that it's closed. The peeling wall paper, stained and falling ceiling tiles, and empty well-used shelves don't give the bakery a quaint feel, it's more of a have-the-owners-gone-blind feel. But, the shelves that the actual food is on are clean and covered so I eat here anyway! Check it out!

Le Cave's doughnuts may have gotten me through writing my master's thesis, sad to say; kind of like a sugary fluffy security blanket. I recommend the vegetable glazed, the chocolate raised, the maple glazed, and the apple fritters. The apple fritters are possibly the best item in the bakery that I've had. I only tried their filled donuts a couple of times and I have to admit I didn't take to them; they had way too much filling, and I prefer more dough in my doughnut's dough:sweet-stuff ratio. Still, probably the best place in Tucson for fresh doughnuts, and not very expensive (I know other people have complained about the price, but this is a local establishment and not a chain like Dunkin' Donuts and you can tell the difference). One note: this place is not safe for the health conscious; just because they're vegan doesn't mean they're good for you!

  • HOLLY M.

YES YES YES!!!! Do eat their donuts, they are spectacular. I enjoyed 6 different kinds, each was well crafted, not overly sweet, nice fluffy texture, good flavors, just plain excellent. I only wish I lived near it.

Never heard of this place, but when my daughter requested a Tres Leches Cake for her birthday, I hit up Google to help me find one, and Le Cave's came up as one of two of the best places to get this specialty cake in Tucson. I checked out the Yelp reviews and decided they were mixed enough to give it a try for myself. Good call! We made the trip down to 6th avenue and luckily got one of the last two they had available. It was delicious and my daughter was very happy and surprised that I managed to find her exactly what she wanted. It was YUM-O!! It's funny because my daughter tasted this cake at least 4 or 5 years ago at a Mexican families birthday party, and she never forgot it. This version was unbelievably light despite being cake soaked in evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream, and with an awesome texture, so NOT soggy, again despite being soaked in the 3 milks. So 5 stars because my daughter and everyone else LOVED that cake!!

Amazing! Great donuts, but also super impressed that they are vegan and made with potato flour. My allergy kids got to eat their first donuts here!

I'm writing too many five star reviews today, but Le Cave is worth it. OMG the donuts here are as incredible as my Lonely Planet guide to Arizona promised they would be. Well worth going out of the way for a box of them. We ate them out of the back of our car. Don't let the interior fool you. This is what you should bring to the party. I'm new in town my son wanted tres leches For his birthday so i searched n this bakery came up we went test tasted the tres leches tasted decent so we ordered it, we ordered it with fresh bananas inside they said they'd add custard it was banana pudding no fresh bananas as promised making it extremely sweet. We all had 1 piece didn't even finish it, was a waste of 40 dollars the rest of the cake was thrown in the trash. Cake didn't even look like the way we wanted it and was told to pay for the whole thing before the pick up date or they'd cancel the order I don't think I'll ever go back again!!!! Huge disappointment.

Tres con leche cakes here are scary decadent, and their donuts eclipse Dunkin dregs and Krispy Killers by a Tucson city mile. In addition to being easy on the wallet, Cave's selection is unique, from vegan offering to Mexican cookies, churros, and specialty cakes. Pastries sans preservatives, quick service, and nary a spot of grease in one's pink pastry box have me spitting five stars.

I know exceedingly little about Le Cave's Bakery and their baked goods but what I do know is this... THEY HAVE VEGAN DOUGHNUTS!!! *rainbow sprinkles fall from the heavens* Oh, wait, I'm sorry. I know two things about Le Cave's Bakery... *ahem* They have VEGAN doughnuts and these doughnuts are good. Very, very good AND they're vegan! CASE CLOSED! (By which I mean, my doughnut box, which for the sake of this review I'm going to pretend is called a "doughnut case," which is closed because I've eaten all the doughnuts inside. *looks around*)

Be sure to get here early for donuts. Mango donuts are amazing! Empanadas are delicious! They do NOT have cake donuts. Most items are 99 cents each.

After reading an article about Le Cave's Bakers in the paper I had to try them. My wife picked up a dozen donuts while she was out and I was excited to try them. I was shocked when she told me they were $32 for a dozen and then even more shocked when I bit into the glazed doughnut. It was easily the worst doughnut I have ever tasted. Later on in the day I thought I'd try one of the chocolate doughnuts and it had the same terrible taste. I had to wash my mouth out. It was very disappointing to say the least. Again, I later convinced myself it must be something they put in their glaze so I tried an eclair and there was that same taste I disliked in the first two. Something they put in their dough does not agree with my taste buds.

  • Cathy L.

While the place looks like it might be going out of business, we were surprised they took a charge card. The glazed are great. If you think you need 3 or 4 kripsy kremes, one glazed suffices here. They don't cut the hole out so hey, more doughnut. We know the empanadas as "fried pie" which were great. Pineapple was great but banana creme omg. After the fridge for 3 days the last mango doughnut was super once I squeezed out the copius filling then it was perfect. Open Sat and Sun closed Mon at this review. A bit pricey but worth it. (dunkin is like 99 cents and they are a buck fifty but you get what you pay for.) This isn't a factory doughnut this is bakery fare. I can't wait to go back.

Ok, now that I've had more then just their donuts, I can easily say La Cave's is a great all around bakery. Selection is best in the mornings, I got there at 2pm on a Sunday and they were already sold out of chocolate donuts! I really enjoy their Tres Leches cups, especially since I'm not normally a fan of that particular dessert. Service is always friendly and if there's a line of people they're good about helping people politely and efficiently.

Le Cave's glazed donuts are the best I've had so far. The glaze in Le Cave's donuts are just about right...not too sweet like Krispy Kreme's or Dunkin Donuts. I also like the fact that Le Cave's donuts got rid of the hole in the middle. The donuts have some 'chewy' texture as opposed to airy dry ones.

    (4)
  • Liz G.

We had heard much about the donuts here, and finally got a chance when we were on the west side a few weeks ago. Not that great. I mean, they tasted ok, but not worth driving across town for. And I thought they were pretty expensive. I don't buy donuts often, but I'm pretty sure that Dunkin Donuts is much cheaper, and just as good. I really wanted to give them a glowing review, because they are a local institution, but just can't.

Any one who has to live with a restricted diet will think they have found a little heaven on earth with Le Cave's. If you're not a vegan, or if you can eat dairy, eggs and wheat with aplomb, then go ahead and give this place anything less than five stars, according to your tastes. But as a necessary vegan, this place deserves 10 stars in my book. I found it while visiting my mother-in-law in Tucson. Driving down 6th, I passed a block-long building that had "Vegetable Donuts" painted on its facade. I thought broccoli, sweet potato, you know...vegetables! I needed to investigate this vegetable donut place. Inside the one person there (a super cute girl in short shorts) dispelled my mistake and told me they were vegetable oil donuts. No dairy, no egg. "God," I thought to myself, "if they were only gluten free, too." Laughingly, I asked if they had any gluten free donuts, and she told me THEY WERE ALL GLUTEN FREE. I had to double check that I'd heard her correctly. NO DAIRY, NO EGG and NO GLUTEN?!! How is it possible that I would find this kind of donut anywhere in the world, let alone Tucson, AZ? What's more? They have been serving gluten-free, vegan donuts since 1935, before the word "vegan" existed! Hence, the term "vegetable" before donut on the wall outside.

Best Glazed Donut Ever!...Krispy Kreme has nothing on Le Cave's...Fantastic Bakery!

  • Kevin D.

I keep hearing these are the best doughnuts in Tucson. They're good, but I'm not sure about "best." I got a regular glazed donut, which was pretty good, and a mango filled one. I'd never had a mango jelly donut before, so that was pretty good. Good variety overall, more than a standard donut place.

  • Colin G.

Despite being less than spectacular donuts, these are still some of the best in the city. It's just something about Tucson that I've never been able to figure out: why do we have crappy donuts? I can remember tasting the donuts when I first moved here and thought that it had to be a fluke, and that there had to be better stuff out there. I was wrong, because Le Caves is often cited as the best in town, and I agree, but I still don't think much of them. I used to like donuts and would eat them at least once a week. Now, it's more like 2-3 times per year. Probably for the best though, because they're certainly not good for you. Personally, I don't think Le Caves' surpass Safeway's donuts enough to warrant the drive to the obscure, south-central location. If I'm around there though, and want donuts... Maybe the day Tucson gets kolaches, that'll be the same day that we get great donuts. Now that would be a good day.

I made my annual pilgrimage to the Old Pueblo and anticipated Le Cave's cake donuts. I had been hyping this place for years to my old U of A college friend and last year we came by too late and the cake donuts were all gone. This year however, I made sure we would be there early and woke up at the crack of dawn to make our way over there on Friday morning to get the cake donuts I loved soooooo much. When I got there I didn't see any cake donuts. ??!!! The "vegetable" ones were there but I didn't care about those donuts, I WANTED THE CAKE DONUTS!! Well it turns out the person making the donuts was getting up there in age or something like that and it was too much of a production to make them these days. This was just heart wrenching. So I settled for some of the donuts they did have available and tried some of the empanadas, and they weren't anything to write home about. Maybe I should try their cake, I don't know and at this point I'm too depressed to even bother.

I had these donuts when someone brought a box to work. They were yummy so my child and I went a few weeks later. The place is dirty. I won't go back. Down to earth does NOT mean dirty!

I saw this listed in a Readymade Magazine, Tucson guide. Somehow I always find a way of trying out the local donuts. I had the popular glazed and was amazed at how it tasted just like Krispy Creme but better. I saved the mango empaneda for my plane ride home and it was delicious, luckily I also bought some cookies for a potluck the next day and these were fantastic as well. From my experience, I've had vegan pastries and were not impressed with any of them (always being too dry), this is not the case with Le Cave. If you're making a trip to Tucson, why not give it a shot.

    (4)
  • Kerry M.

Hands down the best glazed doughnut in Tucson. Maybe in the whole world. They are vegan, too and usually I would run screaming from anything vegan but these are simply the most delicious regular doughnuts ever.

So I have a not so secret addiction that can only be satisfied here in Tucson. It's Le Cave's Bakery and all that it produces. I usually rush in and get my dozen or so donuts and dozen or empanadas, but today I had the good fortune of having a short conversation with the owner. He was one of the friendliest people I've met, and it was very apparent that he is very appreciative of his loyal clientele. So not only do they get 5 stars for their outstanding baked goods (Best in the West), they also get an A+ for customer service. Thanks again Le Cave's Bakery!

Meh.... The donuts were far from earth shattering though many swear by them. Long drive to get there for mediocre baked items.

Le Cave's Bakery, Come with Your Own Machete... Well its a bakery. Many people have many things to say about this bakery. Their donuts are yummy and unhealthy like Krispy Kreme's and since Krispy Kreme is no longer in Tucson, Le Cave's would be the next best thing. I once purchased a Tres Leches cake there. It was HORRIBLE and I didn't have to be Hispanic to know this. Yes, I recognize its a Tucson bakery and not a bakery in Mexico of which I had my first Tres Leches experience. However, I paid $20+ for a cake that didn't even taste like a great tasting American cake. The white cake used to make this was so nasty it tasted like paste. Duncan Hines has one up over this bakery as far as cakes are concerned. The "icing" was exactly that, icing with huge chunks of sugar in it. You would think he made a cake for experimental rats with the size of sugar blocks in the icing. I politely asked to speak with the manager, who was never around whenever I called. So I ended up taking the sheet cake back in person (it wasn't even eaten except for two slices). Before giving me a fraction of the money I paid for the cake, he degraded me. He didn't want to believe me when I told him the cake was dry in many areas (it was drier than a stale cake)... he continued cutting through the cake with a huge machete bakery knife, like some Ninja. I was flabbergasted because he was chopping through *my* cake *after* he told me he wasn't giving me any refund. He didn't even ask to chop, and then molested the cake pieces by mushing them between his bare hands! As he was doing this he said "There's nothing wrong, its not dry" and finally he cut through the center and discovered a huge dry spot the size of the Texas and *then* decided that cake was crap. Dude, if I made him eat the cake, he would have thrown up right before my eyes. The entire experience inhaled profusely: 1) The cake tasted gross 2) It messed up my mother's birthday because no one wanted to eat the rest of it 3) The owner/manager insulted me 4) The owner/manager was not going to give me a refund 5) He told me I didn't know about these types of cakes 6) Finally he gave me a partial refund, but told me hush up about it Everyone can have a bad day at their bakery- and that's okay. However, you don't insult the customer when you know your cake tastes like crap. This place only gets 2 stars because their donuts are good. Other than that, I would have given it a 1 star because of the raunchy customer service.

Visited yesterday as it was reviewed in the Caliente. Nothing that great. The help behind the counter did not wear gloves when she picked up the cookies and placed in box -a turnoff . Donuts so-so. Wouldn't go back.

  • Brad J.

This gem is a well deserved 5 stars. Unfortunately I did not get the bakers name, but she is kind. My first encounter I only had my debit card. Well, there is a minimum $6 charge. She allowed me to make the purchase even though I did not meet the minimum requirement-thank you for that. I can only imagine the potential of this space when it originally opened in the 1930s. Now it's a bit run down, but the ambience is NOT why you come here. The donuts are amazing. AND they are vegan (at least 10 of 12 are). Being a long time vegetarian it is hard to find good food, especially after living in Portland for the past 5 years, where we have Voodoo doughnuts!!!! Le cave's is simple, delicious and delicious! Take these home (if you can make it that far) and enjoy with some friends and coffee. So glad I found you! Peace.Love.Unity

A very tasty doughnut. I will definitely be back. The most remarkable thing about their doughnuts is that they don't make you feel sick for the rest of the day like most places. Just nice and satisfied. Maybe something to do with no dairy or eggs in the dough? They weren't quite the perfect pastry, though. The texture was a teensy bit dense and chewy, and the frosting was sweeter--like cake frosting--than is standard. Maybe also something to do with no eggs or dairy? If you haven't tried them out, you should.

  • Mike M.

You say Lee-caves and I say Luh-cåvz. But who really cares when the fried dough is this damn good!? These fluffy (and surprisingly light) delectable donuts are utterly delightful. My favorite, by far, are the filled versions. Whether it's raspberry jelly, lemon curd or vanilla custard these babies are PACKED full. Honestly, there is probably more filling than dough composing these donuts. I'm used to having to search for the tiny dollop of filling in other donuts, often getting a mouthful of pure dough in my first bite. Not at Le Cave's! Absolutely amazing and super fresh without the slightest greasy aftertaste. No filmy coating in your mouth no matter how many vegetable glazes you cram down your gullet. The hole-less glazed is still a mental distraction for me but I reconcile my resistance by telling myself I'm getting an extra bite from Le Cave's that all those other traditional ring shaped donut clones have been shorting me all my life. So it works out I guess. It was a little disappointing they didn't cater a little more to their donut patrons by having a few tables and chairs or offering some simple beverages for sale (coffee, milk, juice?). It's awesome that the business and building have such history but providing a little more accessible parking would greatly improve the retail experience here. It was also disappointing that their display cases didn't look anything like the awesome pics on Yelp. I was expecting to see a huge selection of cookies, pastries, cakes and donuts. Sadly, the cases were fairly bare with just a limited selection of donuts and a few paper pictures of unimpressive looking cakes. Is this the current norm? Thank goodness the chosen few were noteworthy!

OK....I have heard about this place from a few friends that know good food. Do you know any of those folks...there recommendations are typically spot on? So, I took my wife, who is not the biggest donut fan, because we just happened to be driving by. One bite....I mean one bite is all that it took and I immediately knew this was the best donut I have ever had! The girl who was there was really friendly and we ended up leaving with a full set of these wonderful donuts. I cant even believe this is not the number 1 donut place on YELP. I guess that just goes to show that you cant always bank on the number 1 slot here sometimes. I will be back and this place is a Tucson gem......

  • Mark F.

Just left this bakery and the donuts were amazing. They're super light! I feel I could eat a million of these things, and they're gluten-free/vegan! Have to be the best in Tucson, hands down :)

OK, I got the "Oh man, mmn, mmn, mmn" response. It was National Donut Day so I had to try them. My wife and I went there at 4:00 and their shelves were mostly bare, but they had donuts in the back and they were still baking. Customers were continuously shuffling in and out, leaving with bags and boxes of donuts. I had a maple glazed, a creme filled, and a mango delight (mango jelly donut). We also got a vegetable glazed (all their glazed are vegan) and a lemon delight. The texture of all were very nice. Fluffy, yet not greasy. Their donuts do not come with holes. For instance, the maple and the vegetable glazed are like a Boston Creme without the custard inside. It's a hole-less donut. So I guess that means you get a little extra bonus with their donuts. The creme filled was delightful. Real cream filling as far as I can tell. It didn't seem like plastic nor overly sweet. Just a nice whipped cream without being too airy, either. The mango delight was delightfully HEAVY. It is filled with tons of mango jelly. Same for the lemon delight. I have eaten half of the mango delight and it is still around 3 times heavier than a regular jelly donut! No. Exaggeration. When I first picked it up, I went, "Whoa! This thing is heavy!" As a result of not having a hole, perhaps, all of their donuts are priced at $0.99. A dozen, however, is a very reasonable $8.99 or something like that. I know the $8 is correct, just not sure how much in change, but I'm 99% sure about the $0.99. Verdict: As good as Queen Donuts and Donut King. A tad better than Young's. Definitely better (as is Queen & King) than Wheel. On to Alvernon Donuts! And I will have conquered the donut circuit!

Donuts (or however the hell you spell it) are my favorite sweet. Better than Ice Cream, Cakes, Pies. Nothing goes with breakfast, lunch and dinner like a good DoNo. At Le Caves' is, by a large margin, the best example of a donut I have ever run across. Let me put it in list form: 1. The donut is bigger. They don't put holes in their donuts, not even the glazed. So unless you're used to a big donut, the Le Cave glazed is larger than your average grocery store offering. 2. Their Creme and fruit filled donuts are, by an order of magnitude, better than anything in the Tucson area. And the Phoenix Area. And maybe AZ as a whole. The raspberry filled is so much better than what you get at Bosa, you'll cry like you've just held your child for the first time. 3. It's vegan. Let me clear this up. I freaking love meat and milk and pretty much everything that comes from animals. Including fat. Especially fat. How they make these donuts with no lard is beyond science. Kudos for that, and using real fruit filling, too. Some believe in a God. In that case, it's likely that God made these damn donuts. Others believe in Platonic Forms, which makes the Le Caves' Glazed a literally manifestation of perfection. Whatever you believe, get your ass down there and pleasure yourself to the taste of these donuts.

Always on the look out for awesome donuts when we travel it's a hit or miss.. This was a HIT.. 1st off it is in a sketchy part of of town, the actual bakery is pretty run down..the clean freak in me was kinda grossing out. BUT the donuts are AMAZING!! I mean AMAZING!! We got 4 maple, 4 chocolate, 1 powder, 1 lemon filled, 1 apple cinnamon filled, 1 glazed and a 1 croissant for 15$.

  • Katy J.

The deliciousness of their old school glazed donuts (vegan) is what Krispy Kreme dreams of duplicating (and fails to do). These are the kinds of donuts you would hear your grandparents talk about and I'm not surprised since this place has been around since 1935. I say come for the glazed alone. They are not cheap donuts. They are quality old style donuts that are worth the price and trek. I am not a fan of their jelly or powdered donuts. Their chocolate and maple donuts are also quite good. But, really try the glazed.

  • Chris G.

Holy god in heaven. If there is a better donut in Arizona, I haven't found it. I live on the Northside and I've driven out if my way time and time again. There is no comparison. They aren't cheap cappy donuts you get at the store. It's 9 bucks for a standard box. But worth every penny. I recommend Maple Glaze. BONUS: They are naturally vegan. Everyone at your work can partake in the joy that is Le Caves.

Soooooo good! The doughnuts are melt in your mouth greatness. The empanadas were pretty good as well, not the best but still good. The doughnuts are definitely the reason to go. Though it was kind of sad to see the place looking somewhat run down.

YUM!!! We really enjoyed the donuts here! They were very fresh, which is key to a good donut. Nice variety of flavors as well. The area is a bit sketchy - a homeless guy followed us in, but oh well. We will totally go there again!

These are the best donuts in town. I love their vegetable glaze donuts. The chocolate ones are good, too. The bakery is about a 25 minute drive from my home, but it's well worth it. The staff is friendly, too.

  • Erna M.

Their donuts are super yummy. We tried the ones with powdered sugar and the maple glazed ones. My impression is that they are a bit more fluffy and lighter than other donuts. We paid something like $8 for a dozen. It was not very busy when we went there and we didn't have to wait (it was on a weekday at about 8am). Also, most of the donuts are vegan. Ask the employees if you are not sure which ones are vegan.

There doughnuts are excellent. My wife has a number of food allergies and these are the first doughnuts she has been able to eat comfortably. The staff is friendly and helpful.

No prices visible on anything other than the donuts, so I couldn't calculate before buying. I wasn't offered a free glazed donut even though I made a point of saying that it was my first time there. I purchased a dozen cookies, 5 donuts, an empanada, and two creme horns. Their donuts are no different than anyone else's except for using veggie oil (and that's only if you don't want anything creme or custard-filled, of course). But, hey, I'm not vegan; however, I do know that deep fat frying in vegetable oil is not necessarily better for you than frying in lard. I'm a fan of cake donuts myself, which, of course you won't find at Le Cave's. The cookies were good, like pecan sandies with flaked almonds, but since they were not even 2" across, $6/doz. seems a bit pricey to me. The cream horns tasted like they'd been made and then refrigerated several times before I bought them. I would be extremely surprised if they told me they make them fresh every day. I've had fantastic cream horns, and these were not. They left an unpleasant aftertaste. The empanada was highly disappointing -- all crust, little fruit, and, while the crust was flaky, it had no flavor (vegetable oil, remember, but with an egg wash, so not vegan friendly). Also, I was disappointed at having nothing but a park bench to sit on. It seems it wouldn't take that much more effort to put in three or four cafe tables and put on a pot of coffee. I would have stayed there with my friend, and I would have spent more for the coffee. There was plenty of room for tables and, in fact, tables would be preferable to large, empty pastry cases. .

Wow, amazing cakes, pies, donuts, and a veritable smorgasbord of pastries! Not a place to sit and relax and eat, just a straight up bakery- a darn good one! And though everything is great, if you're deciding on which donut, go with the classic here, which is also their best- the vegetable glazed! Oh so light and delectable!

These are the absolute best donuts I've ever had! Anywhere! They've been around forever, and are a Tucson tradition. They are not overly sweet or overdone, just naturally good! The mango filled is one of my favorites, along with the crème-filled that I had this morning!

To hell with this damn bakery and their evil doughnuts. Stupid delicious doughnuts. I should not be consuming flour and sugar in any measure. Sometimes I go years without eating a doughnut. And then I eat three of these things. Why are these doughnuts so much better than other doughnuts? They are magically delicious. Now my pants don't fit anymore. If you don't think consuming mass quantities of doughnuts is sinful and wrong, these are some of the best doughnuts ever. And even if you do think that it's wrong, they're still the best.

I was on a dairy-free kick for awhile and wondered if I'd ever be able to eat donuts again. I found Le Cave's and realized not only could I have donuts, but better donuts than most. I highly recommend it to people with food restrictions or dairy allergies. Now ignore what I just wrote. Le Cave's makes delicious delicious donuts that just happen to be vegan. I highly recommend it to people who love donuts. So everyone, obviously.

She had me at "First timers get a free glazed donut" and said that their donuts are all made in vegetable oil. That means I'm eating vegetables in my donuts, I'm SURE I understood her correctly. The outward appearance of Le Cave may be a bit concerning, but the donuts do not disappoint. They don't make cake-style donuts here, so I requested a chocolate frosted raised donut for today and a few apple fritters to help hit the credit card minimum (poor me!), I mean, to bring some home to share with my family. Friendly staff, no wait, fresh treats.

My favorite are the vegetable glazed donuts, second in line are their apple fritters and last but not least in the doughnut lineup is their mango filled donuts ... !! Wait actually their vegetable glazed donuts and their apple fritters are tied in my book. It just depends what I'm feeling that day! Everything is so Delicious and reasonably priced ! This place is too terribly close to where I work so I try not to come by too often ... Sometimes though .. the girls in the office or I will come by and buy half a dozen to share so we can all be naughty together ! Their empanadas are also very good . They are flaky and delicious ... This place doesn't really offer too much other than donuts, empanadas, oh and how can I forget about their tres leche cakes ? Yummy ! Don't come expecting morning bagels or muffins or anything healthy for that matter like oatmeal because they don't have that here

My step dad brought donuts for everyone. I tried the cream filled and the mango. The cream filled barely had cream. My husband had one and his was stuffed, so I guess I got a fluke. It still tasted good. I'm giving this a five star rating because of the mango donuts. Oh. My. Gosh. Best donut I've ever had. I'm usually not fond of donuts unless they're filled. This made my tongue shed tears of joy. It was so stuffed and just absolutely delicious. I found my new birthday breakfast.

We were in the area looking for a good pie. They had 2 choices as far as that went but everything else they had to choose from more than made up for it. The tres leches cake the doughnut selection and we decided to go with the lemon cream pie. If you're feeling adventurous in trying a new flavor of filled doughnut the mango is definitely a must. And the smiling staff is more than happy to give you time to decide. Never asked for a sample but it would surprise me if they wouldn't. Don't let the outside run down appearance discourage you from going in, you won't be disappointed you did.

Great way to start your morning with a tasty empanada; or one of their famous donuts. Throwing a party or having a wedding & wNt to empress your guest or a delicious cake from here & it'll surely be a crowd pleaser!

I remember my teacher bringing donuts from this place :) I never heard of it and I seriously passed by this place very often xD and it's because the place looks abandoned :0 but the donuts are so fluffy and good and the empanadas are my favorite!! I like going in the mornings and you'll always see customers waiting outside :D and they take your order pretty quick, so that's nice :)

It's as good as people rave!!!! I decided to be vegan for 30 days and this came up on yelp and damn it if my vegan diet isn't going to make me gain a ton of pounds on these babies. I got 1/2 a dozen to share (NOT!) and by the time I was going to give them away every single one had a bite mark (oops!). A word to the wise: get the same flavor if you want to share these, otherwise you will be tempted to try the sweet differences between each little plump sugary goodness.

I had my first Le Cave's Bakery donut a couple of years ago when I came to Arizona. It was a round chocolate glazed donut stuffed with whipped cream. I've tried to have similar ones out here in California to no avail they are nothing like the ones at this bakery. I will be back there in Arizona in two weeks and I'm looking forward to going into Le Cave's bakery and ordering several of these for myself. The donut was moist to the perfect degree and the whip cream inside was sweet delicious and perfect. I sure hope they have those special donuts still

First visit - focused on donuts and empanadas. Empanadas are even buttery crumbly than we're used to and the fillings are great (we went with pumpkin, chocolate and mango). Donuts are light and we enjoyed the maple glazed and chocolate custard/whipped cream filled. We're hit or miss on fruit filled donuts...so though we went with mango, it was a little too gooey for our taste (but that's us). There are other fruit fillings available (raspberry might have been a good alternative), so additional visits would provide better perspective.

Disappointed with this place! We traveled pretty far out to taste the donuts and didn't even get the chance. There was no customer greeting, no prices anywhere, limited selection and more expensive then most donut places. There is also a minimum card purchase amount of $5. Go somewhere else!!

Delicious vegan doughnuts! The non-cream doughnuts are the only vegan options. Very delicious for a vegan sweet tooth craving.

These donuts are so good, I don't even care that they're Vegan. In fact, you could tell me that they were made by annoying hipsters in a factory that produces food made from human meat while baby polar bears are forced to work in extremely hot conditions... and I'd still find them delicious. They're just THAT good, and to be honest, I don't even like donuts. My friend brought a box of their (non-filled) glazed, chocolate and powdered sugar donuts and I am pretty sure we physically fought for the last one. At one point I cut one to only eat one half- to then awkwardly take the other half while the others weren't watching. It was so bad, that after we ate some of them, we went for a hike and kept thinking the whole way "damnit, Josh better not have eaten the rest of those donuts!". Why are they so good? Because they are sweet but not as overly sweet as what you are used to with the traditional Krispy and Dunkin's of the world. The dough is super fluffy but most importantly- and very unfortunately- you don't hate yourself after eating them. You don't need a gallon of milk or a liposuction session after eating them because they feel so light and so mild on your stomach that you can eat another one... and another one.. and another one and.. oh god. The box is empty.

Full disclosure: I will always swear my full allegiance to La Estrella Bakery. With that off my chest, I will say that Le Cave has some pretty tasty doughnuts. The glazed are really the only kind worth writing about. All the others pale in comparison. If you're hankering for a glazed doughnut, Le Cave may just be the place for you!

Delicious doughnuts! I was in the neighborhood and decided to pull over and try this iconic bakery. It was early enough that the doughnuts were actually still warm. I bought a few of the vegetable glazed and maple glazed and started in on them as soon as I got back in the car. They were the best! I can't decide which ones I loved more, so fluffy and just plain good.

This place is nothing less of an institution in Tucson, I grew up in the area and after moving to the eastside of town and out to Vail and getting into the Krispy Kreme thing for awhile honestly forgot about them. Oh my - what a mistake I made. After recently moving back into the area, one day my nose reminded me of their baked loveliness. I am home momma! I have never gotten a bad donut, pastry, cake, etc from them! Highly recommended, wonderful customer service.

This is the one of Tucson's best bakeries in my opinion! Their donuts and coffee cakes are simply amazing! I haven't been by in a while but think I'll be dropping in this week!

There's a bakery/cafe in Moab (believe it or not), Sweet Cravings, that makes great tres leches. Sadly, when I stopped there en route to Tucson I was told it would be an 8 hour wait for it to set. I thought no worries, I will pick some up in Tucson. After scouring Yelp reviews I decided to try out Le Cave Firstly, the woman behind the counter was super nice and recommended I try a banana creme empanada. I wavered but opted for the chocolate tres leches. When I dug into it I noticed a watery, clear liquid at the bottom. Not sure if the whipped cream had separated, but it also tasted a bit off so I ended up tossing it out. The empanada was better, but alas, my tres leches hunt goes on.

Haven't been to the actual bakery yet, but tried their donuts for the first time this week- and I ate six (yes, 6) of their donuts in one day. All the ones I had were good (mango, apple, lemon filled, glazed, chocolate and powdered) but the glazed and powdered are absolutely out of this world!!!! (and I'm usually a filled donuts type of girl). Even better, they are vegan. And no stomach ache from eating that many donuts (vegan junk foods never upset my stomach, unlike their non-vegan counterparts....). Everyone must try the glazed and powder donuts here at least once before they die. They are that good...

Their vegetable glazed donuts are famous and delicious! Need I say more? Well...yes. Le Caves is a Tucson tradition and it's been around forever! Since the 1930's. They might be known for their vegetable glazed donuts and birthday cakes, but I always go for the cookies( and maybe one donut)! They've got a legit stock of Mexican wedding cookies which are always fresh and delicious. Their Tres Leches cups also have quite the following, but these are not my personal favorite, they're heavy on the frosting. My father always tells me stories about when he was a kid and would drive up to Tucson from Nogales with his parents to go see the dentist and visit the big town and on their way home they'd always stop at Le Caves for a donut. I love that Le Caves has been a family owned establishment for so many years and that we can all continue to enjoy it! You're cash will go pretty far here and I do believe they have a minimum to use a debit card, so if you only plan on buying one or two items brings cash!

While making my drive from Dallas to LA, I checked on yelp and found this bakery. I got there around 1 PM so I was a little worried that the donuts wouldn't be as fresh (probably made early in the morning). Also, I'm the furthest thing from being vegan so I wasn't sure a vegan donut would be for me. Boy, was I wrong. The glazed vegan donut was delicious! While I was being rung up for my donuts, there was an older gentleman in the back who says to the cashier, "Wait, that's a new customer! Make sure you give him a free donut." So it turns out that he's the owner and he makes it a point to know all of his customers. He knew immediately that it was my first time, and his policy for first timers is a free donut! We talked for a while and he shared some of his life with me, and it was just a great experience that I was not expecting with my afternoon snack. When I drive through Tucson again, I will definitely stop by again.

The first time I had one of these donuts, I actually made Homer Simpson noises out loud in my car. Best donuts in Tucson, IMO, but really, it's all about the "Vegetable Glazed" donuts. There are no vegetables involved; it's just that there's no lard used to fry to donuts, and they're amazing. I've tried other donuts at Le Cave's, including the apple fritters, the chocolate, and some of the filled donuts, but nothing comes close to the vegetable glazed. Stay on course, people, don't get distracted by interesting fillings like mango. Their cookies are also very good. My mom tasted one at a pot luck, and couldn't stop thinking about them. This year I ended up shipping her a box of the little jam cookies for mothers day. According to one of the news stories they have posted, this is Tucson's oldest independent bakery. II took away a star (really should be half a star) because they don't serve even plain coffee (please? it would be so good with the donuts!), and also because there's really no place to sit and enjoy your pastries. There's a single bench, but it'd be great to have a little table or two--maybe outside? Of course, I'm probably glad I ended up eating my donut and moaning about it in the car...less embarrassing that way.

Fast and friendly service every time I have visited. They have a great selection of donuts and pastries. There is even a vegetarian option for donuts. There is a deal when you get a dozen donuts for $8.99. That price may seem like a larger chunk of change, but the quality of their donuts is worth every penny! Thank you La Caves!

I am strictly reviewing this on their plain, glazed donut, which is incredible. *THIS* donut and possibly the chocolate glazed are the ones they have that are as close to vegan as you will find in Tucson. I'm not sure why so many people are under the impression that all their donuts (including the cream-filled) are vegan because they aren't. Nevertheless, the plain glazed ones rock it hard.

This Bakery is AMAZING! Such a variety of doughnuts filled with real fruit, it doesn't get any better then that. It's worth the drive down south.

Before I knew it, I had eaten four desserts from here in one hour. This place was hyped up a lot for me before I ever tried it, but I have to say everything I tried was beyond delicious. I'm not a big donut and filled pastry person to begin with, but I bet I could have eaten four MORE of anything from them. My favorite are the ones filled with whipped cream -that alone warrants 5 stars for this place. I'm only glad I don't live close to this place, I'd be way too tempted to eat something from their selection every day!

Unbelievably good doughnuts. I've had a total of 5 types of doughnuts and one cookie over 3 visits and everything has been great, but the standouts are the maple raised (my favorite by far) and the mango filled. The maple raised is really what keeps bringing me back; the texture is unique (fluffy, almost like a non-greasy sopapilla) and the the glaze is amazing. The mango filling is like an especially good marmalade--seriously, if they canned it, I would buy it. And when was the last time you had a jelly doughnut that could be described as "deliciously tart"?

It's not honest to say that the donuts at Le Cave's are gluten free, because the bakery is definitely not GF, but for people with sensitivities that don't run to the extreme, I will say with 100% certainty that the beauty of eating a donut made with non-gluten ingredients will bring you back again and again and again. The absolutely delicious, light, airy, yet crisp finish of the donuts will make a believer of anyone. I have to work hard to not turn down 6th Avenue every time I drive by. Bonus points for vegan donuts, too.

I've had Le Cave's on a few occasions, and both times I thought, "huh, I wish this was better." I don't really understand everyone's LOVE for their donuts. But maybe because I'm not a donut person, I just don't get it? And the tres leches is heavy on the leche and not really anything else. I totally get that this is practically a Tucson monument, but unless I'm missing something that I haven't tried yet, I just don't get it. Know Before You Go: Great if you're looking for kinda "eh"
