Is it a restaurant or tourist shop? It's hard to determine; when you first walk in the restaurant you walk into a typical made in Mexico dust collectors. It just felt awkward. We were seated for happy hour and ordered prickly pear margaritas. I've had them at Chase stadium, and they were very good..a good pour and $12.. The ones served here were disappointing, weak in flavor and pour. Does happy hour here mean 1/2 shot pours? Appears so. We had three drinks and no one was buzzed... The chips were nothing to dance about and the salsa reminded me of catsup with chili flakes; nothing fresh or chunky about it. No thanks, we don't need more chips... We ordered the blackened chicken with prickly pear vinaigrette and marinated beef strips with chipotle balsamic vinaigrette. The chicken was fantastic sweet and sour served on crisp greens. I would order it again. The beef was tough, and the balsamic didn't have that richness an aged balsamic has. It was disappointing. Geez when I'm in Tucson I just want good Tex-Mex and a good pour... Still looking.. Sigh....

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat after arriving in town. It's very close to the Marriott Residence Inn on Rudasill Rd. Had their Green Corn Tamale special. Only problem was they must have cooked them earlier in the day for final prep at the time of order. One of mine (ordered 2) wasn't hot all the way through. Ordered a side of rice and refried beans, but portions were small. I'll have to give 'em one more try when I go back.

This is not the first time I've been here, nor will it be the last. It's not 5 star...but DAMN it's good. I got take out. Gotta get the cheese crisp with green chiles. Enchiladas sonorenses...I'm in love. My wife and I love the salsa also! You gotta check out the little novelty/gift shop area up front. There is some seriously cool stuff in there! I

This is the youngest of the two Las Margaritas in Tucson. it is located on the westside of Oracle Road near Rudasill near a Starbucks and Subway. The service, from a phone call to inside the restaurant, was pretty good. This place seems to be a little busier than their other establishment on Grant Road. The interior is also better, and everything looks cleaner and fresher. Both places have candy and a gift shop, but this one has much more to sell. The food is the exact same. I highly recommend the spinach enchiladas. This is the best thing on the menu, in my opinion.

We have eaten here over a dozen times. We find the food and service good. It is not a fancy place but it is comfortable. It can get a little loud with the kids and families that come here so it might not be the ideal date night spot. Chips and salsa. The chips are warm and crispy. They have a squirt bottle of sauce on the table with an empty bowl and spoon. This sauce is a mix between hot sauce and salsa. That is the only salsa type of thing we have ever used. The combo of the chips with this sauce is great. Put some of that sauce in the empty bowl and dip the chips in it. The food. The food has always been good and they are pretty quick in the kitchen so not a long wait even when they are busy. The service. The service has been great on every visit. We are seated fast, the drink order is quick, and the chip bowl is never empty for long. The drinks are refilled before they are empty. Cost and value. Dinner for 2 with iced teas runs about $32 dollars for us. For the amount of good food that we receive it is worth it. Happy hour in the bar is decent with several specials. It is a place we think of when we have family and friends with kids that visit.

Tacos de la casa are my favorite. Have yet to have a bad margarita here. Staff is always friendly & attentive.

This was not the WORST Mexican food I've had but it's fat from the best. Everything was average. This would be a great place for a quick lunch with coworkers. I had the beef and the chicken sour cream enchilada. The chicken were good, the need just ok. Do not get the mild salsa simply because they should call it tomato paste with water. The hot was not hot but flavor was ok.

Used to eat here once a week when I lived in Tucson. First time back and it is just as good as ever. The red Chile con Carne is my favorite followed be the taco salad. The place is not fancy, but is good mexican food. Will go back next time I'm in town.

I was tooling around in Rush Hour when my stomach decided it was time to eat. On the right, at the light, was Las Margaritas, and it was Happy Hour! The House Margarita is nothing special. The house salsa that comes with complimentary chips was hot but tasty. For dinner, I had the Chicken Veggie Chimmy. It was delicious and deep fried to perfection. The side salad was greens, corn, and roasted red peppers served with a smoky chipotle dressing. So good. My husband had the Sonoran Taco Special, served with rice and beans. They were tasty with good flavors. Most notable was that the food was served very hot, as in just cooked and served. This was our first visit. We'll be back again.

My family has been going to this place since it opened in the 1970's. It has been going down hill since 2010. Last night was horrible. Waited 15 minutes for a server to take our drink order. No water served as requested. Once we finally ordered our food it took almost 45 minutes to get it. Rice and beans cold. Green corn tamale was raw in the middle. Very sad. That will be our last time here. It was my parent's favorite place to come. Horrible experience.

First time here. Not as good as I hoped it would be. Service was so so. The waitress seemed bothered. Like we we made her work. I got the steak burrito no seasoning at all. Chips and salsa were good.

My husband has an ulcer so we eat here because the food is not to spicy.. The drinks are great if you need a yummy margarita. The service is okay and your food cones out pretty quickly.

The salsa was very fresh. The waiter was super attentive and very nice. I highly recommend the kids enchiladas. Also it's very economical for the family.

The food was just not good. Two stars because our server was friendly and attentive. I had the 3 taco platter, the chicken taco was actually half of a rolled taco and seemed stale and hard to chew. The other two tacos were ground and shredded beef and they were so soggy they fell apart and had to be eaten with a knife and fork. Rice and beans were bland and flavorless.

We had an OK meal here today after hiking The Arizona Trail to High Jinks Mine. The sauce with my cheese enchiladas was wonderful...I really liked it. The chips came nice and warm with a hot salsa. When I ordered the mild salsa, what I was given was tomato sauce! I couldn't believe it so I asked our server if a mistake had been made. And she said, "No, our mild salsa is tomato sauce." Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather. Needless to say, i did not use it. I can easily say it's the worst "salsa" I've ever eaten. Not counting the salsa surpise, the rest of the meal was fine. Our server was very attentive and our bill was more than fair. However, there's really not a whole lot special about this restaurant so I think we'll try Rigo's up the road the next time. It'll probably be a while before we try this one again.

I have never been here before but I read all the other reviews on here and decided what the heck. I went with someone who is friends with the host and I'm glad I did. All of the other reviews refer to their mild salsa for their yummy chips being ketchup. Well I'm here to tell you that if you go order the "adult mild" and you will get something that tastes like salsa not ketchup. It's actually pretty good but its pretty runny and I'm a chunky salsa kind girl so that's why they lost a star. However the food is really good I had the chicken enchilada I think and the enchilada was pretty good but the beans were very runny. Although altogether it was a good meal the waitress was very attentive and the atmosphere was nice too.

I was here recently with friends for dinner and I have to say I was unimpressed. Walking into the restaurant there is a display of tchotchkes and knick knacks to purchase, which I find weird but hey if it works for Cracker Barrel it might work for Las Margaritas. We sat down for dinner and our waitress was very attentive taking drink orders immediately and giving her best recommendations. I tried the Prickly Pear Margarita, a weakness of mine in Arizona, it was alright. Sadly I have nothing more to say on that point. Another server dropped off what he called "mild" salsa so I figured I'd try it. I dipped my chip into the salsa only to get a mouth full of corn tortilla and ketchup. I kid you not, it tastes exactly like ketchup, I would wager it was Hunt's by the sweetness. Undeterred, the fish tacos sounded great so I ordered them. The fish was bland and topped with unripe avacados. After this experience I'd have to recommend seeking your Mexican elsewhere. The extra star is the service, the servers were attentive and the food is not their fault. Best advice on finding good Mexican food in Arizona, look for the hole in the wall places with lots of cars.

I have been going here for 20+ years. Always consistent, and always excellent! Some of the best Mexican food and margaritas in Tucson. Fast service and the best salsa!

  • Myriam H.

Only had the shredded beef mini chimichangas to go. They're very very good. The salsa is decent, not too authentic but good enough for this Sonoran native. As long as it isn't overwhelmed with cumin, like most gringo Mexican food places, I'm pleased. Service is decent, good enough for takeout. I think it's a good choice for fast Mexican takeout.

It was an ok Mexican food. The waiter checked on us may be once and never refilled our drinks, place was not busy at all. And he brought our checks while we were still eating ...this is a big NO NO ...what if I want to order more drinks.

  • Michelle P.

Way too expensive for the quality of the food that you get from this place. They even charge you for chips and salsa if you're taking the order to go. They serve the chips and salsa for free though if you stay. Sometimes it smells in there like they haven't turn the air conditioning on in two weeks. I will never go to this establishment again, as I paid $80 for two entrées, a cheese crisp and chips and salsa. What a rip off. If you want really good Mexican food head somewhere else.

We have eaten here for over twenty years. The food is consistent and good. Not the best in town but one of the better ones on this end of Tucson. I usually have the sour cream chicken enchiladas and they are good. Prices are fair. Only complaint is the bathrooms are getting on the disgusting side. If they dont clean them up I will go elsewhere as I think it is indicative of the condition of the kitchen.

I've been coming here for over 25 years. In the beginning the couple that owned it ran an INCREDIBLE operation, tons of service, bussers constantly keeping drinks filled and the food incredible. No more. The kids took over and seemed never to have learned a single lesson from Mom and Dad. Everything here is a hit and miss. I still go but no where to the same degree I once did. Ole gets my Heavy business now. I go to Las margaritas when I'm too lazy to go elsewhere as it's two blocks from my house. I WISH these kids would put this place back to it's glory, I really miss it.

This place is a hit and miss. We have gone here several times where the service was good and the food was good and other times we've gone and there was practically no service and the food took forever to get to us. The last time we went it took the server 20 minutes just to get to us even after the host sat us. He even yelled at her for not serving us. She then came up with some excuse as to why she was not at our table but served other tables directly across from us and behind us before she ever even got to us. The happy hour menu is good especially when you have kids who are hungry but won't eat much and have tacos and tostadas for a dollar. I have also ordered the albondigas soup which is really good. The owner is also very nice and greet us and help out but she doesn't come until the evening.

We visited the place for happy hours. I order Patron Margarita. They were very reasonable in price and were made to perfection. The HH appetizers were very cheap and delicious. Great place to visit for HH and hope to make it for dinner next time.

Always tasty and consistent. No flash no flair just a great place to meet family and have a tasty meal. That house margarita is delicious and frozen just the way a frozen margarita should be, super thick and tangy.

I've been eating here for over 30 years. It was the place to take a date then, now it's the go-to family restaurant for what we like to call "good gringo" Mexican food. It's not the most authentic in town, and the décor is getting a bit run down, but it's still always excellent food and the price is right. Stray from the traditional menu for some more authentic dishes - "Tacos de la Casa" and "Tacos de Valle" are two of my favorites. The red chile con carne is excellent, but VERY spicy! Speaking of spicy, the chips and salsa are some of the best in the city. I have no idea what some of the complaints are about! Fantastic salsa for your chips and entrée, served in a bottle for some reason, probably to eliminate waste. My wife and daughter always get the "mild" salsa, which is basically plain tomato sauce that you augment with the spicy stuff to get the level of heat you desire. Overall very good, family-compatible Mexican restaurant with a strange gift shop in the entry. (Also has a strange candy store in the front as well, but that tends to be more useful!)

Had dinner there, good steak salad. Very fast service, good margaritas (low price) during happy hour, very nice staff.

I understand the 2 1/2 stars. Went here over the weekend. -Nachos = okay -I got "plate A" with a cheese enchilada and a beef taco. My taco shell was soggy and it fell apart when I picked it up - had to eat it with a fork. -The cheese enchilada seriously was just a rolled up corn tortilla with melted cheese on top (nothing in the middle of rolled tortilla). On the up side, the waiters and hostess checked in on the party frequently and were personable (called customers by their names). Overall, 4 stars for service, 2 stars for food, which averages to an overall score of 3.

What a DISASTER! We're here as guests with a party of 20. They screwed up and forgot we were coming. Waited 30 minutes to be seated and didn't even have the customized menus that were made a month in advance! The plates they brought us for appetizers were covered in beans! Disgusting. The sad thing is they don't even have a manager on duty today! Who's running the show?! The reason I have one star was because the service is EXCELLENT! Melissa and Jesus are keeping their cool and getting everything out extremely fast! These two servers need to be in a restaurant who appreciates their patrons because Las Margaritas does not! Thank you Melissa and thank you Jesus! Keep up the great work! The owner of this dump should care more!

I will say they make awesome Margarita's but I think I already said that in my tip! This place was everything I would expect from a Tex-Mex restaurant. I would for sure go again the next time I'm in Tucson.

My family has been eating here for more than a dozen years. We've noticed a clear change in the taste of the food (not toward the good), the size of the bill (far to expensive anymore for the lunch they serve), and the number of guests (can you say echo, echo?). The salsa is far more watery and less tasty than we're accustomed to enjoying. The chips on our last visit were very greasy and, as my grandkids would say, yucky. Service? Servers standing around gabbing while tables and guests are being ignored (David needs to kick some butt). It's so sad to watch a restaurant on a death slide. We're just hoping for a miracle cure.

  • Rachael J.

Yeah I don't give too many one stars. I was torn between one and two. Starting with atmosphere. There was none. When you walk in you are welcomed by an over-priced gift shop. The decor and tables left much to be desired. Our party of four was squeezed into a rather small booth. I'm not sure our waitress was familiar with the food industry. She had never heard of Maker's Mark and didn't seem to know what was included with any of the meals. But, she was nice and efficient. Chips and salsa? How about greasy chips and some kind of watered down sauce. With no flavor. You could get pico de gallo if you wanted to pay extra. Seems like 98% of Mexican restaurants in America include salsa for free so I am not one to pay extra for it. While the menu was extensive nothing was special and rice and beans cost extra for pretty much everything. The food itself was very greasy and bland. I ordered a salad that came with chicken, limp lettuce, 2 mealy tomato slices, 2 lemon slices and 2 cucumber slices. The nachos were so greasy the chips no longer had a crunch. Oddly enough this place had a steady flow of patrons on a Friday night, although I'm not sure why. I guess overall, most Mexican places I have dined at in Tucson are surprising mediocre and Las Margaritas falls below even that.

I've tried this location twice after ruling out the dive location on Grant. The first time someone had given me a gift certificate and the food was okay, I had pollo asada taco salad which was kinda tasty. I gave it another try about a week ago and when we went at about 4pm there was almost no other people in the place. The waitress was nice but the food was below average, the chips were stale and the refried beans were watery. I won't be returning.

  • Cara S.

The chips and salsa left a lot to be desired. But the main dishes were quite tasty. We ordered a burritto and an enchilada dinner. I had a chorizo enchilada and a chicken sour cream enchilada - they were packed with flavor and delicious.

Now here is the Toyota Camry of Tex-Mex joints. Every reliable element is present and accounted for. Chips and salsa. Aztec soft-porn posters. Dim lighting. Pleather banquettes. Competent combo plates. Coarse salt magaritas tasting of limeade. You know exactly what you're going to get. It won't surprise but it will never disappoint.

Great Happy Hour price-wise and small bites menu (had the happiest waitress I've ever known or encountered, also). Great pricing and I love the dim/dark lighting. Not bad.

I use to think you could not go wrong with mexican food, however Las Margaritas proved me wrong. Pros: Quick service. Cons: Food: Guacamole was extremely bland (perhaps they used mayo to extend the avocados?) The carnitas burrito was basically meat wrapped in a stale tortilla that had been sitting underneath a heat lamp for a couple hours. The margaritas ...,sucked. I'm absolutely astonished this place had a 10 minute wait. Price: I was charged $ 4.60 for less than a 1/4 cup of beans and rice and $ 8.50 for a virgin margarita.

The food is ALWAYS great, you can't go wrong with the margaitas either. Pricing is decent. Service can be ehhhh unless you get the gentleman with the ponytail... he is EXCEPTIONAL!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
