Dang, how could we have missed this place?? How long have they been here? I grew up in Tucson and had never been here. Luckily, I was searching Yelp for some place to eat and Kappy's showed up and had lots of well-deserved good reviews. Last Friday, Mom, Hubby and I tried the all-you-can-eat fish fry. The fish was served hot, just out of the fryer. Mom and I always douse ours in malt vinegar. It was delish. Served with steak fries and coleslaw. Our waiter was really friendly and attentive even though the place was busy. It was so good that Hubby and I went back for another Friday AYCE fish fry. Rory was our waiter. He remembered us and our drink order from the prior week, but Hubby had a rough day so we got some adult beverages. Found out that they have some really good beers on tap: Hubby got a Guinness and I got a Dos XX Lager. The fish was as good as the week before. Rory remembering us went a long way in providing fantastic customer service, besides being a great waiter. We need to try their other menu items and we will, eventually!

We were on the hunt for a good Friday Fish Fry... read the reviews of several places and we have visited a few.. decided to give Kappy's a try... got there about 7p and it was still pretty busy with a 15 or 30min wait, we went up to the bar and found 2 seats, the bartenders seemed really busy but still found time to joke around with us. The fish was big chunks of cod... very well cooked, not too greasy and not too much beer batter, the coleslaw was homemade and the fries were nice thick steak fries. I was very surprised to hear the wait staff asking the bartenders for water and soft drinks and tea... I guess they couldn't get their own from the waitress stand and that would explain why they were so busy... 2 bartenders were serving guests and getting beers and cocktails for the whole place, while 5 wait staff couldn't get their own non alcoholic drinks... just think that was an inefficient use of staff. Overall food was pretty good and would eat the fish fry again but be prepared for a wait on a friday night.

The food is uncomplicated and tasty! I'd recommend a cheese crisp, wings or a patty melt! Friendly staff and casual atmosphere. Do check it out!

I've been wanting to try Kappy's since a friend of mine told me about the "All-you-can eat Fish Fry" on Friday nights. I read a couple of reviews here that have been spot on. Here's my take: Being a Friday night, it was quite busy, but the hostess was friendly and really hustling to get people seated. I don't think we waited more than 10 or 15 minutes which isn't bad. The decor is unique with a "friendly vibe". The booths definitely need to be updated, but I really liked the atmosphere. Everyone in my party ordered the fish fry. And then the wait began........45 minutes later we had our food. Now unless you have to catch the fish, clean it, fry it and then serve it, it shouldn't take this long to serve this kind of food. Perhaps the kitchen is tiny - I just can't imagine why it took so long. The table behind us actually got tired of waiting and got up and left! As for the taste.....I wouldn't order it again. The fish was hot, but flavorless; from the batter to the fish itself. It was also quite greasy. The fries were so-so. I'm not a fan of coleslaw so I can't comment on that, but I did like the flavor of the garlic toast. So, ultimately, I'm giving Kappy's three stars based on the atmosphere and the friendly staff. I'm willing to go back to try something else on the menu based on the aforementioned things, but I won't be ordering the fish.

Stopped in for lunch last week. Quick , spot on service, big, juicy burgers and you can get tots as a side...yea, tots. Nuff said.

This has to be the best kept secret in Tucson. I've been coming here for years and I often bring along friends who've never been there before but always want to come back. The interior decor is unique. Sort of reminds me of Arnold's Drive In on the old HAPPY DAYS television show, but with a western flare as framed posters from old B westerns grace the walls. The food at Kappy's is also good, and easy on the pocket book. Want a good juicy burger, with curly fries on the side, or a heaping plate of nachos? Kappy's has it, and you can wash it down with a margarita from the bar. Kappy's also has an all-you-can-eat Friday night fish fry with your choice of fried or grilled pollack. Generous portions too. And finally, if you're looking for a place with few screaming kids running around, try Kappy's. It is, first and foremost, a bar, and while families are welcome, it's not the place where most people would bring their children. Good food, great prices, and fun times with friends. That's Kappy's.

I usually go to Kappys with my family on Friday nights for the fish fry this week I happened to pop in one day will I was the neighborhood and have to say their sandwiches are as great as the fish hands-down the best fish fry in Tucson and the wings were excellent too.Pricewise you can't beat it overall I have to say one of the better little known jewels in the Tucson area.

I confess that I'm a regular here. Good food, good prices & good folks. I eat there often. They have specials every night for dinner the most popular by for is the all you can eat fish fry on Friday night. If not the fried fish type you can get it broiled.

Burgers and beers at Kappy's tonight. Kudos for having Dos Equis lager (not amber) on tap! I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.....A big ole pitcher of XX lager is the best. Our burgers were pretty good. Tasty and juicy with fresh toppings. My green chili burger had a nice slab of fresh roasted green chili on it. My dining partners' burgers had plenty of bacon. The accompanying fries were also good - both the regular and waffle fries. The people were super friendly. Service was attentive and prompt. They had comment cards on the table which shows a willingness to please that I appreciate. The interior was bright and roomy, but it is in need of some serious updating. The booth seats are torn and the furnishings just feel kind of old and drab. I think this place has great potential with a little work. We'll definitely be back.

Awesome, Fish Fry on Friday till 9pm. Big portions. Most of your group won't need to get more. Don't forget the Red Velvet Cake. Clean facilities and helpful wait staff, incl the owner.

Love this place for their fish fry on Friday's! They are typically packed on Friday's, so expect to wait a few minutes before being seated. For the fish fry, they start you off with 3 good sized pieces of fried fish, a little tub of cole slaw, steak fries, and two buttered pieces of garlic bread. You can request baked fish if you want, but I found it's not too terribly flavorful and opt for the more fattening option of fried. They do have a bunch of TVs everywhere (albeit small), usually having news and sports on in all directions.

If you love asparagus, you've got to go to Kappy's and have their fried asparagus!!! It's a big basket served with ranch dressing, so take a friend along to share it with. Then order a burger or chicken sandwich, all yummy and a draft to wash it down. A great, homey place for lunch or dinner!

So, my last review on this place was more on the end of 2 and a half stars. This one is more on the end of 3 and a half stars. Still not quite 4, but this visit was better than the last. It really is a friendly neighborhood place. The staff is very friendly and the beer is good and cold. On this particular visit, we stopped in on a Friday night for the fish fry. Well, I got fish. My wife is not a fish person. This being the first Friday of Lent, the place was really busy. I have been here a few times and never seen it this busy. Understandably, service suffered somewhat because of this but was still very friendly. What we had: Margarita - the Margarita was good, but had too much ice in it. The waitress was kind enough to bring the remnants from the shaker in another glass for "seconds". That was pretty cool. Beer - I like the fact that they will give you a small pitcher of beer. You can also order by the bottle or pint, but IMO, the small pitcher is the way to go. Fish and Chips - I am a little torn on this one. I am on a quest for good fish and chips in Tucson and while Kappys version is good, there must be better. The fried fish is firm yet moist. Strangely, the breading was kind of tough. Could that be the use of baking powder in the batter? I don't know. It's all you can eat and includes garlic bread, fries and coleslaw. If you prefer, you can get baked fish or a combination of both. That is also pretty cool. At $8.95, it's a good deal. Grilled Cheese - not much to say except they give you your choice of bread and cheese and it comes with fries... any kind you like. By the time we were ready to leave, the line was out the door. I was shocked. This place is in my neighborhood and I drive by all the time. I have never seen a line out the door. Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty cool little dive bar/hangout but I don't believe the quality of food warrants a Disneyland-like line. I guess fish and chips options in Tucson are fewer than I thought.

I decided to try the Friday night fish fry. Not at all impressed with quality of food. The outside of the fish was hard/tough and extremely greasy. After I removed the inedible outside it revealed a three-inch square piece of very very overcooked fish The bread was soaked with butter or grease. The tartar sauce was too heavy. This slaw was okay and the french fries were edible. I then asked for the so-called "grilled" fish and the waitress brought me some boiled rubber overcooked fish. My girlfriend and I each got a fish dinner I agreed to only pay for one of him. The food was greasy and overcooked. I won't be going back to Kappys.

My husband and I bob really enjoyed this place! We originally went for the Friday fish fry but both ended up getting sandwiches. My husband got the sub club and it was FANTASTIC!!! I got a turkey green chili sandwich and thought it was good, just not as good as my husbands. The waiter was super nice and understanding when my step father didn't like his beef sandwich and exchanged it without a problem. The customers were even nice there! The table next to us offered us their pitcher of beer that they couldn't finish! The bar area and pool area are also really cool looking, a great dive bar! Definitely will be returning!

We ordered the all you can eat fish and chips and we were not disappointed. The cod had a nice crispy batter and the fish was nice and flaky. We had excellent service from everyone including the owner. We came down from Phoenix during Christmas and now we have a new restaurant to eat at when we come back.

Kappy's is Southwest on the outside, Midwest on the inside. It has that kind of down-home, outdated dive feel, with wood panelling and low lights. But one thing it doesn't do is disappoint. I went to Kappy's for lunch with some co-workers, which is actually the only way I ever end up at Kappy's. Unlike most of the reviews, I've never been there on a Friday, and I've never had their fish. But I did have a great Dale Evans. I didn't know what the sandwich was (turkey, cheese, green chiles), but it sounded good and I was there to try something new. And you know what? No regrets. It was greasy and delicious, and I'm still full. Kappy's has a simple menu, but it has the little things I want in a diner. Everything comes with fries, or waffle fries, or tots. Or soup, if that's what you're into. In fact, that's only half of the side choices. I got the waffle fries and they were great. I would normally toss a 4-star review on a place like this without batting an eye, but here's what made it 5 stars: the service. It was a busy day during lunch, and I thought our waitress went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect anyway. She took our orders right away, she asked all the right questions, and she was patient. She never let our drinks sit half-empty. And when we forgot to tell her we wanted separate checks until after she brought us the bill, she was happy to go back and split it. Kappy's is one of the best divey little diners on the East side, and every time I get bad service at another restaurant, I think I'll just come back here.

My first time eating at kappy's and it looked really good, I ordered the turkey club and waffle fries. I was really disappointed that I found mystery meat in the sandwich. It was anything but turkey other wise it it was okay minus the mystery meat.

Great dive... only one issue with the food. They use a french roll for the burgers... the bread/meat ratio is way off! I literally had to rip pieces of the bread off. The burger itself was awesome! Hand prepared patty full of flavor!!! Everything else was great!! My boyfriend got the reuben and loved it. Lindsey our waitress! Omg! She is amazing!!! The only one on the floor and not stressed at all!! Relaxed atmosphere and great service, I'd recommend it.
