Hmmmmmm. Well, if you can't say anything nice, just yelp it. Haha. But seriously. So here are the positives: The Dragon seems much bigger on the inside, probably because my mom and I were the only customers there. And it was clean. And they have an "A" rating from somewhere that seemed official. I know the Pima County Health department doesn't use that grade anymore, but it impressed my mom. The restaurant was eerily silent, save for two flat screen tv's tuned to college football and basketball. Our waiter seemed to be enjoying one of the games, sometimes seated at an empty table, sometimes elbowed up to the bar. But service was still attentive. Just weird. We split an order of egg rolls and got the lunch specials of Mongolian beef and cashew chicken. I got a pricey Tsing-Tao beer, my mom, green tea. The beer was cold, which is good. The egg rolls were volcanically hot and crispy, but super bland and comprised almost entirely of cabbage. The hot mustard was sinus clearing hot, which I did enjoy. The sweet and sour sauce, eh, was neither. Just orange red sauce of some kind. The lunch special comes with egg flower soup, a bland chicken bouillon overly thickened with corn starch and served at a balmy 75 degrees. I passed at two spoonfuls. Our entrees weren't much better. The problem was with the meat. My beef had the strangest non-beef texture, soft yet strangely chewy. My mom's chicken was too chicken-y, like an artificial chicken flavor. And grisly. She wished she had gotten the cashew chicken without meat. She didn't think it was funny when I opened my utterly tasteless fortune cookie and did my best Charlton "from my cold dead hands" Heston as Detective Thorn- "You tell everybody. Listen to me, Hatcher. You've gotta tell 'em! CASHEW CHICKEN IS PEOPLE!" Oh well. Thanks for lunch mom. Tip your server. (Drops the mike, leaves the Dragon)

I'm always looking for a good Chinese restaurant and decided to give this one a shot. Prompt service, clean and spacious inside and decent menu. Ordered Almond Chicken and unfortunately, very bland with no flavor. Even tried adding soy sauce which didn't help much. Rice was good and soup (egg flower) just ok. I'll give it another shot again and try something else before giving up, but so far not too impressed.

Shocked to see the reviews and low rating for this Golden Dragon. Been eating here for at least 14 years, if not longer. Can't recall a bad experience with either service or the food. For standard American Chinese food, it's very good. Flavors have remained consistent, lunch specials are a good value and they have some of the best "standard" egg flower soup in town (both texture and flavor). Add in the cleanliness and you have a winner for me. Their Mongolian chicken/beef/shrimp is out favorite in town also.

Simply outstanding. Excellent customer service. Greeted promptly when walked through the door with smiles. Order was lightning fast! Cooked to order and tasted great. My empty plate didn't stay on my table long. Refill was instantaneous. The only star loss, would be to fix the bathroom. A bit disgusting.

I love this place, this is what real Asian food tastes like. Orange Chicken was too die for. The Kung Po was amazing and had some serious spice. Spring rolls were so so so good.

Horrible! =[ Took my son to chuck e cheese with a couple of friends and their kids. After letting the kids have fun! We decided to have some Chinese food. Walked in was greeted friendly. Their was only one girl a waitress and a guy working there. It make sense tho, because it was just me and my 4 friends there at the moment. Anyways, we ordered some chicken wings, lo mien, fried rice, sweet & sour soup...and didn't know what else to order....the waitress told us we should order their "chef special" which was salted & pepper shrimp and braised chicken. So we say okay, because she say it will come with a bowl of rice for everyone so we cancel the fried rice. OH BOY!! we waited nearly 15 min. for chicken wings, which was so greasy.......after 15-20 min past by, so starving, everything came out, and the two chef special didnt!!...and another 10 min both came out! We though maybe it takes a while because it must be good and fresh.! NOPE description of each dishes: 1.) Chicken wings: greasy! greasy! greasy! and the skin was musssshy! 2.) Lo mien: GREASY GREASY! it oil was everywhere, i mean it was covered with so much grease! Barely any meat! 3.) Sweet & Soup Sour: Um?????...i thought it suppose to be swt&sour? No,...it was salthy? WTH! 4.) The what so call "chef special" Salted & Pepper Shrimp: & again it was so greasy! The shrimp tastes so odd. They peel of the skin and i guess they stir fry it with oil pepper and salt.....and some green onion and bell pepper. NOTE: other place: js cook it with the skin cover with salt & pepper, and believe me its delicious. 5.) Braise chicken : Was okay. Finally something was okay. total : 69 dollars....including tips! Horrible! They even include the tips in the bill. I will never come back here, with the 69 dollars we coulda ate somewhere better,,,even panda express will make us happieer. ps: we did complain, but waitress say everyone who comes in order like it and if we did'nt like it thats our fault, because we should know how chinese food taste like! What does that suppose to mean? We barely even ate the food. DON'T GO HERE!!! GO PANDA EXPRESS AND SAVE MONEY & BTR MEAL!

I came here on my way home from Walmart. Right? Ew, walmart. So out I was, there at Speedway and Kolb, and craving Chinese. Any Chinese. Preferably good Chinese, but I didn't know of any places out in that area and Yelp did not come to my rescue. I walked in here with my boyfriend and was pleasantly greeted with a "nice" atmosphere complete with vinyl booths. I put nice in quotations because it exemplifies what Chinese restaurant owners think Americans want in a dining establishment. Kinda cheesy, not well done, but it makes you feel good. I ordered orange chicken and chow mein. Best heavy Chinese in Tucson. Best light Chinese is Gee's on Alvernon (it's not light by any stretch of the imagination but feels less heavy than this place). If I ever go to Walmart again I will come back here.

Not bad. We tried the appetizer sampler, there wasn't as much food as I thought but it was good. We tried the Lo Mein (Beef, Chicken and Shrimp) which I really enjoyed. We also tried the Dragon and Phoenix plate (I think that's what it was called) and wasn't too impressed. It was good but I expected more. Overall, it was a good experience, good service and nice atmosphere (no one else there). It wasn't the best Chinese restaurant we've been to, but I'd rank it somewhere in the middle.

Took them 20 minutes to get us water, and the only reason waitress acknowledged us is because i asked if I could get a server, otherwise I'm sure it would have been longer than that the phone did not stop ringing the entire time we were there. No one answered the phone. The phone would not stop ringing from the moment we sat, until we left and it was seldom answered, even when I asked them to answer the phone because it was ruining my meal. And listen, I'm easy to please, but this phone was LOUD!!! We were hardly acknowledged the entire meal. Horrible service. I'm a server, trust me - I know what is supposed to happen in a restaurant and this isn't it. My gf and I got so frustrated that we got up and asked someone to bag up our food immediately. We made ourselves clear that we were unahppy and no one offered to get a manager. It was more like, "oh, okay well then here's your check. Bye". Never going back and I am a next door neighbor.

Went for the lunch special.Service was prompt and attentive. The General Tso chicken and Kung pao chicken were tasty and well spiced. However the egg drop soup was barely lukewarm. Portions were nice sized and the price was reasonable. The rice was more or less bland. Dinner prices seemed high especially for Tucson.More like Seattle prices. We will stick with lunch here.

A surprise invitation from my two daughters for a rare weekday lunch prompted a quick search on Yelp. I read the prior reviews and expected the worst when I entered and saw an empty restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by some things and slightly disappointed in other things but did not have a bad experience overall. Pleasant surprises: Hot and sour soup and egg rolls. The hot and sour soup had decent flavor with the tang you expect. The egg rolls arrived cut in half and were EXTREMELY hot , obviously fresh from the fryer. The exterior was crunchy and veggies inside seemed fresh although they were short on seasoning. A swipe of the accompanying plum sauce and a dash of soy sauce turned them into hot little nuggets of goodness. Slight disappointment: I had the house lo mein, with beef, chicken and shrimp. My oldest daughter saw it on the menu and said, "Wow, you get all three for $5.95?" She ordered the same thing. My other daughter had broccoli and beef. The egg rolls we had were too hot to eat but our entrees were bordering on lukewarm... serious inconsistency here. The flavor of the lo mein was good and it had plenty of beef, chicken and two nice sized shrimp. The fried rice that came with our meals was bland and not even the soy sauce could save it. Service was described by my daughter as "hovering". There was never an empty water glass and soup bowls and plates were cleared promptly. Halfway into our lunch, the place started to fill up, causing our service to devolve. By the time we were done, we had a hard time tracking down our check. Lastly, as is customary with American Chinese food, we were given fortune cookies. Both my daughters ripped theirs open and took a bite of the cookie... STALE. I didn't bother to open mine. I imagine mine read something like this: Hot food will come your way. Cold food will come your way. Please pay at front.

Stopped in for lunch, and I am so sorry but I just really DID NOT LIKE like the food. And that's putting it mildly! So first we got some crab crowns, egg drop soup and spring rolls. All bad! Well OK...the egg drop soup wasn't bad, I liked that it didn't have that eggy smell or flavor that really bad egg drop soups have, BUT the spring rolls were unseasoned with mushy unrecognizable veggies inside. Then Dinner was server..and OH MY! My oldest daughter and I got the Mongolian Beef and both immediately agreed that something about it was really OFF. I'm not even sure how to explain myself but my main issue was a texture problem. For some reason this beef was just, dare I say...waaaaay too tender! Just super strange texture for beef. It was almost like something else was processed to look like beef but failing miserably at accomplishing the right texture. So, the texture was wrong, the scallions were too soggy..the sauce bland...just a mess. My husband had the Teriyaki chicken and thought it was OK but again, for me, there was something oddly wrong with the texture, it just seemed again like something else processed to look like chicken. My youngest had the Beef and Broccoli and clearly she wasn't fooled by the Faux Beef because she immediately made a face and asked "mommy what is this stuff" and then proceeded to only eat the side of rice. The other kids had the Sweet and Sour Pork, and they thought it was fine, I don't know...i refused to try it. So needless to say, most of us left hungry, kinda pissed at having spent any money on such an unsatisfactory meal, and wishing we had gone to Fuddruckers next door instead. Oh well..you live and you learn! So never again!

We've been going here for a while. The egg rolls are real egg rolls and not the cheap frozen stuff you get at other places. They will change the TV channel to the sports game you want to watch, and are courteous with service. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about, but we've never had a bad experience and enjoyed the food.

My dad and I were in the neighborhood and decided to give The Golden Dragon a shot. I ordered my usual, the orange chicken, and he ordered the general Tso's (apparently pronounced "Chow's" according to the menu) chicken. We were their only customers, so the food was brought out promptly with a big bowl of steamed rice for us to share. The orange chicken was really tangy and the general Tso's chicken was great too. The portions were pretty big, and at just under ten dollars each I feel like we more or less got our money's worth. We also had a fairly pleasant experience with our server, who was very attentive. The restaurant itself was nice and very spacious, but it was pretty dim in there. I had to feel my way around a dark hallway to find the ladies' room, and even though that's my biggest complaint I just don't see myself going back any time soon since I live so close to Dragon's Palace.

This place has, hands down, the absolute best low mein noodles I have ever eaten. Evidently they make the noodles themselves. Service isn't bad, and the atmosphere is quite. Also, their egg rolls are really good.

Been coming here for more than 15 years. The service is a total roller coaster, but usually not god awful. That's only happened once. We normally get the family dinners with the egg drop soup, egg rolls and crab puffs to start. For the entrees we get the chicken lo mein and either the Mongolian beef or the General Tso Chicken. Hands down they do all of these items better than any Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. The dining room is usually empty as they do most of their business as take out and delivery.

Alright, I know that Tucson isn't known for its stellar Chinese food, but I refuse to leave this experience stewing in the back of my mind. I have come to accept that, in general, when you don't have a huge community of ethnic people who will demand a certain "authenticity" to their home cuisine, you'll end up with a lot of Americanized versions of dishes. I actually don't mind it at all. What I DO mind is when the quality of those dishes are so incredibly piss-poor, it makes McDonald's beef patties seem more wholesome. So that was a long prelude to say - no matter how desperate you are for Chinese food, avoid this place until they fix a few things: 1) their "hot and sour soup" was pathetic - not hot nor spicy, absence of any kind of recognizable pork or seafood, and just plain bland. 2) their "lunch specials" are barely better than what you can get at Panda Express - why not charge $1-2 more and put some meat in your fried rice (as well as some vegetables), get rid of the neon-orange "sauce" on your slightly rancid and cold wontons (why are they there anyways?) and improve the quality of your meats in your main dishes. My husband got the General Tso's and the breading to meat ratio was about 5:1, and when you add in a bland and florescent "spicy sauce", it was nearly inedible. 3) we ordered the dumplings (6 for $8) and they were an insult. Again, the wrapping to meat ratio was totally off (3:1), and the filling had more cabbage in it than pork, and, to boot, it was bone dry on the inside. Really...I mean if you're going to overcharge for dumplings, then try to buy the premade ones that are a higher quality, please? Again, all I can say is that the problem with Golden Dragon wasn't necessarily the lack of spicy, authentic flavorings, but rather a consistent lack of quality is any of the ingredients they used in their dishes. I hope they read this website and improve their offerings.

Even the crab puffs were awful. This is hands down the worst Chinese I have had in Tucson, no questions asked. When I drive by it I make a really bad food face.

Since I was 16 my best friend and I have been going to Golden Dragon's all over town! When it comes to fried rice and egg rolls their is no better in town. We celebrate everything from good grades to birthdays in here because the service and food are so wonderful. I recommend it to anyone who likes flavor in their food and smile on their server's face. We were just in last week to celebrate another birthday and everything was top of the line. Thank you!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
