I went to Fronimo's after reading all of the good reviews. I did not have such a wonderful experience. Perhaps I am spoiled from delicious Greek food trucks where they carve the meat off the spit. However, I figured after all of the 4-5 stars it would at least be comparable. It wasn't. The pita was decent. The Greek salad would have been decent but it was drowned in dressing so the lettuce was soggy. They used white onions which made the gyro taste more like a hamburger disguised as a gyro. My gyro had only the meat, onions, 1 tomato top (which seems to be common at more than one Greek restaurant in Tucson), and tzatziki sauce. The fries were probably the only good thing. My boyfriend had the gyro and the chicken souvlaki. The souvlaki was a slice of chicken breast on a stick without impressive flavoring. The atmosphere reflected the cost of the food - it felt like a Greek food court. Neither one of us were impressed. Honestly not interested in coming back.

Great Greek food and great service in a festive atmosphere. You've driven by this place a thousand times and wondered how to get inside? Park around the back, its worth the hunt for the entrance. Oh, and the gyro meat IS from a loaf.

Gyros plate was delicious! The pita was perfect, the meat was not greasy and the tsatsiki sauce was great. The fries were perfectly cooked, possibly the best you'll find.

It's more of a casual greek place, but the food is top notch. Family owned and operated, the staff are all very friendly and helpful every time I go. their fry sauce is like heaven. My all time favorite place to go for greek!

Everything is great, every time we're here. Best fries and onion rings in Tucson, too. Husband loves the patty melt!

This place is fantastic! For a little more than $20, you can get enough food to keep you full for days. The appetizer sampler is pretty great, though the hummus needs a little more flavor. The Greek fries are a happy upgrade. The staff is super friendly, too, which is always a bonus. Happy eating. The only downfall of this place is the fact they use styrofoam plates.

I love this place! My favorite Greek food! I always get a chicken gyro and rice pudding. It's so good!

The best Greek food you'll find in Tucson at a fair price.

As I was looking over the reviews for this place I was wondering if I was in the same place. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad but the gyro wasn't even from a loaf, it was premade pieces. The Greek salad was good but I must say the dressing was very acidic and tart, too much vinegar. The rice was the best thing about this place, delicious. I have had better Greek in Tucson like Athens so I won't be back. The number one turn off for me was the super cheesy decor. I felt like I was in a village inn or coco's not to mention the entrance to this place is behind a walgreen's just weird.

After spending 2 weeks in Greece, I came back to Tucson with a hankering for some Greek food. Thinking that there is no way I would be able to find good Greek to compare, I decided to stop by Fronimo's, a restaurant I would pass every morning for 2 years straight. Greeted immediately by who I am pretty sure is the owner, a nice older Greek woman, she helped me out by offering to try some of their Gyro. Sliced me a piece and I knew right away I would be a frequenter of this place. Just to be sure, I ordered the Greek Combo of Souvlaki and Gyro and a side of Spanakopita, which are these flakey spinach feta pastries. I was happy AND I had enough for lunch the next day.

Outstanding Greek Food for about 60% of the cost of the slop served at Fat Greek and Fat Greek 2. Don't go anywhere else

First of all, there was a bug in my Greek salad. Little guy, if I hadn't noticed it, I would have eaten it. There was a huge line at the counter, so I didn't tell them about it. It was the small side salad, so it wasn't a total waste of money. My boyfriend got the Athens chicken, it was just okay. Swimming in chicken juices and over-seasoned. Fries were luke-warm. I was turned off that all the food was served with disposable plates/utensils. What a waste of plastic when they could have had real dishes like most other non-fast food places do.

We loved the food, the nice unpretenious atomsphere and service. All we wanted!

Great Menu, the Greek Lemon soup is the best. Family atmosphere, very welcoming staff. Greek salad and Gyros are a welcome to the palate. Would highly recommend

Great Food! Great Prices! Family friendly. The moussaka was fantastic! Have a kids menu of non greek food too if you have rugrats who won't enjoy Greek.

Yum! Fast food that's not fast food. You order at a counter and your food is brought on trays, but that's where the fast food aspect stops. The service is always friendly and fast. They have your typical Greek fare- gyros, souvlaki, spanakopita, and more. If you order just a gyro, or souvaki it comes with fries on the side. I recommend the platters that come with a salad, otherwise this isn't very healthy fare.

Just good Greek food done quickly and well and for a decent price.

This is a sturdy little Greek place to get decent gyros and souvlaki at fair prices in Tucson. The hummus is good, but a little strong on the garlic. But all else is quite tasty. The feta is fresh and the portions are ample. The only suggestion I have is I wish it was more of a sit-down restaurant. The interior is nice enough but it's an order-at-the-counter place (common in Tucson) and it would be nice to have a waiter to bring you another glass of wine! Overall, excellent food.

Great food, great prices, awkward line at the soda machine. The good news is - the food is delicious and served up quickly. Dining area feels open which is strange because the place itself is sorta tucked away with rear entrance parking (or maybe it's the "front" just around back of the main road). But once you're in, you're in for a treat. I went with a friend and tried a sampling of items - of note was the farfalle which was just wonderful. In fact, I'd give it 5 stars except that their entrance/order counter is a bit... strange, and where they have the soda situated (it's a get-your-own-beverage kind of place) forces a single person at a time. A little rearranging and a more active greeting (as customers walk in) or possibly some better signs and this would easily be a 5 start place.

First time trying Greek food and it wasn't too shabby! Ordered the chicken gyro plate which comes with fries and a house salad, pretty tasty but I wouldn't say it's something I'll probably be dying to come back for. I will say though... free wifi is always a plus!!!

If you want quick but sit down Greek food this place is decent. I have had Greek salads here and Gyro/combo plates. This is an order at the counter with plastic plates kind of place. I used to be very fond of it until I visited Pappoule's on the NW side of town, now I find Fronimos to be short of the mark. The last meal I had here was a large Greek salad with Gyro meat added to it. The salad was a good size and tasted fresh, but the 4 small strips of gyro meat was disappointing. I would eat here again because the food is good and the service is quick. However I would like to see a little more meat on my salad ;).

  • Ciera L.

Fronimos was close to my house so one night my boyfriend and I decided to try it, the food was good but rather overpriced. I ordered hummus and it came with barely any pita bread and a ton of hummus, would have liked to see more pita bread! The dining setup is very casual and bright. Good fast Greek food, but a little pricey.

  • Austin S.

Fronimos is a fun restaurant! Our belly dance troupe, Xanadu Dancers, often performs here for "hafla nights" and draws a crowd. The restaurant is super kind to us, has experienced and friendly waitstaff, and good food. Even when the restaurant is super busy, they have their act together and food comes out promptly. The baklava is real delicious- do yourself a favor and try some! My hubs wishes they served Mountain Dew, but that's a pretty minor setback in our book! If you're in the mood for a variety of Mediterranean food, definitely stop by.

This is one of my fave cafes going back many years. You order your food at the counter and it is brought out to you. I find the décor/ambience very pleasing with Greek frescos and traditional Greek music playing in the background. The food is fantastic with the gyro being my all-time favorite. It comes with seasoned fries and a delicious sauce to dunk them in. The Greek fries, with spices and feta cheese, are a marvel as well. Their Baklava for dessert was excellent. The service is friendly and fast.

    (5)
  • Prusha S.

Lamb shank with Greek salad is my fav! The lamb melts off the bone, the red sauce is cooked in is very light and flavorful. The baklava is not the greatest. Is A little "too moist" with watered down honey.

This place was a staple for me in college back in '97 & I missed it while living in Phx. I came back to Tucson and the first place I ate was Fronimo's! They never disappoint! Their lamb is awesome.

RUDE AS HELL SERVICE!!! My ma and I went in here one afternoon to eat lunch, and we immediately noticed one customer arguing with one of the staff behind the counter. My mother was curious about what a certain dish was called that just came out of the kitchen and tried to inquire what it was. She asked one of the cashiers, and the middle aged, dark-headed woman with curly hair, glasses, and a big nose who works here completely ignored her!!! She respectfully asked again, and the woman blatantly and sarcastically exclaimed to her "IT'S A SALAD. WITH MEAT ON IT!!! YOU CAN LOOK ON THE MENU!!!" My mother did not detect that the woman was being rude to her and respectfully jibed and replied "Oh. I see." I had to step in and defend my mother against such reprehensibly offensive behavior. The woman didn't even apologize or feel penitent at her rotten attitude in front of many other customers and the fact that we walked out. I really have never been offended more in all my life, and that is no exaggeration. I called in to inform the manager, and he just unenthusiastically told me "Thank you for letting me know." Wow. No food is worth that treatment. After this horrible experience, I learned that they have an infamous history of rude and offensive service. I WILL NEVER, EVER COME TO THIS PLACE AGAIN!!! I've told all of my family and friends, and they won't either. So sad that some lowly worker's disgusting attitude could ruin prospective customers to their "business"! DISGUSTING!!!

We love going here after seeing a movie at the Loft, which is right across the street. It is so easy to order and pay when we first arrive, so service is fast and we do not have to wait for a bill. The food is terrific! We enjoy especially the lamb shank and also the spinach pie, but everything we have had there is good. It is reasonably priced and also has a good wine list and even offers good retsina. Staff if very friendly and accommodating.

There is better Greek food in town, but this food is still decent and the prices are good. It's a great central location to meet up with a friend. Our book club used to meet here in their meeting room, which is free to use but they do expect that most everyone in the group order some food. (Great meeting space, though!) We generally end up stopping in here to grab a bite to eat before heading over to The Loft to see a movie. It's literally right across the street. I'm in love with the Greek fries, and when I'm really hungry I'll also get a gyro.

I always order the Chicken Gyro Plate with rice, upgrade to Greek salad and share the Greek Fries. It is the best meal ever! The rice is surprisingly tasty. The fries are so good with garlic and cheese. The service is exceptional and prices are reasonable for the amount of food you receive. The location is spacious and very well maintained.

Iama Critic Rating - Fronimo's Greek Cafe - 3 Stars 3242 East Speedway, Tucson, AZ Overall: A step above most Greek restaurants we have reviewed in the last year. The Appetizer Sampler was amazing. But the serving sizes are just not what you deserve. That is what happens when your serve on paper plates... you get cheap. $11.99 Appetizer Sampler - 4 Stars This sampler includes Spanakopita, dolmades, tzatziki, hummus, tabbouleh, grilled pita, feta cheese and kalamata olives. This sampler is simply gorgeous, and trying to figure out what item matches its funky particular Greek name is just about as enjoyable. $11.99 Greek Combo - 3 Stars This combo comes with a gyro sandwich, a dinner salad, fries and a chicken souvlaki. The fries are average, the salad, average too, and the gyro... rather average too. Even the chicken on a stick was average as well. $5.99 Small Greek Salad - 2 Stars This salad is very fresh and nicely made. But six bucks for a tiny 5" bowl, is simply too much for such a small salad. $8.99 Falafel Plate - 4 Stars This plate comes with tabbouleh and a grilled pita cut annoyingly into little pieces. I have never had Falafel and hoped it wasn't "falawful". And it wasn't, although the rice pilaf was rather bland. $2.99 Avgolemono Soup - 3 Stars This chicken broth and rice soup with egg has a serious lemon flavor which as a little overpowering for me. It is just not my cup of soup. If I made it there would be visible chunks of chicken and rice everywhere. There is some in there, it just too little to actually show. $3.29 Dolmades - 3 Stars Which is simply meat and rice stuffed in a grape leaf. For over $1.00 each these bundles of joy are simply too small or too expensive. Final Thoughts: The prices at Fronimo's Greek Cafe seem fine in print, but when you receive your order you find yourself wondering where the rest of it is. We ordered a bunch of entrees and appetizers at Fronimo's, half of which I did not review above, and yet we ate diner later that same night.

I've eaten here a couple of times and my most recent visit was the best- I tried the rice as a side to my gyro plate. The gyro is fantastic, great hunk of meat and sauces (I throw in some Tobasco to spice it up). Just yummy to the last bite. The rice had a wonderful lemon flavor to it and made a perfect compliment to the gyro, more than the french fries (which are tasty, but I find the gyro and rice to be a perfect friendship on my plate!) Also comes with a small side salad which was fine- nice to have some greens. Topped it off with refillable beverages and a comfortable atmosphere to hang out and eat and relax for lunch.

Quick casual service in a cute cafe` setting. Fronimo's is cute. You order at a counter and then the food is delivered to your table. The interior is very clean and painted in cheerful frescoes and murals of Greek scenes and artwork. We got Gyros, a Tuna Melt, an appetizer plate and a chicken skewer. Everyone liked what they ordered and there was lots of salad, to boot. It's what you would want a Greek Cafe' to be with good fries and a self-serve soda fountain. Great for lunch on the go or a nice dinner for the family- healthy and filling.

Fronimo's is an uber-casual Greek restaurant that serves up generous plates at cafeteria prices in a comfortable dining room. They also serve Arbuckle's pomegranate iced tea, one of my faves. Puffy slabs of baklava rival any in town, and at half the price. The wait staff, in black and white, steers you to the counter, where you order and pay. The soda fountain is self-serve, so buffet tipping style is in order. The gyros plate is a respectable meal, and comes with a huge dollop of saffron rice. We were looking for a place that wouldn't be packed to the gills on U of A Sweet Sixteen game night, and Fronimo's fit the bill. It seems to be about the only dinner joint along Speedway without a TV.

The gyros here are pretty darn good. So is the rice. Since I haven't tried anything else, I don't know how anything else tastes. Hubby tried the gyro for the first time recently and really liked it too. He's tried lots of other things before and liked them. Can you tell we've eaten here many times and enjoyed it? We have and we will be back again!

Bigger inside than it appears outside. Good menu,w descent prices. My girlfriend is Macedonian and very picky about lemon chicken soup. She said Fronimos was exactly like her Baba (grandma) use to make. Rice pudding was ok, not the best I've ever had,but everything else we ordered was quite tasty. We deg return to try more of the menu!

As a great fan of Greek food, Greek festivals, Greek culture, and especially Greece itself, this place makes me happy. Gyros can be a little on the dry side at times (I believe that I was there later in the evening, after prime dinner time) but the flavor is always there. Always get the rice (fluffy, a little lemony and delicious) and make your dinner salad a Greek one (they'll add Kalamata olives and mmmm...Feta). Place itself is very clean and maybe even a little...generic in appearance and food presentation but it's been Americanized IMO to appeal to the masses.

Fronimo's is great for groups. They have a little glassed in room that you can reserve for your group for free though they do emphasize they expect everyone to order a meal (they were not hawkish about this in person, though I think our whole group ordered something anyhow...). The restaurant itself is maybe more of a 3-star "A-OK" spot but I'll throw in the 4th star because the meeting room is a great asset and they have been very welcoming to our book club! I like that this place is quick and casual without feeling like a fast food restaurant, but the prices are a bit too high for the overall dining experience they offer. For example, the sandwiches seem like a steal at 3.99-6.99 but, at least in the case of the gyro (5.99), there was a lot more pita than filling (which consisted of just meat, two slices of tomato, a little onion and a lot of tzatsiki that poured everywhere, maybe because there wasn't enough stuff in the sandwich to absorb it?). I polished it off very quickly. The whole affair is served on paper plates and wrappers with plastic silverware. Salads, fries or drinks cost extra so really to get a full meal one must pay more like 8.99+. I usually walk away happy but feeling like I got the minimum for my money. I WILL say the baklava and the Greek fries are GREAT.

I honestly can't make up my mind about this place. It's tough to mess up Greek, and not many Greek options in town... But some times leave feeling meh. Give it a try, I think it's a proximity play. Had amazing ranch though. And place is almost eerily too big so it's never crowded and they get you in and out for a business lunch. Only ever got the gyro, never really met a gyro I didn't like but need to try the falafel or shwarma maybe.

Hands down my favorite Greek restaurant in Tucson. Always spic and span, the food is delicious and fresh. My favorite plate of all time is their rice pilaf. Years ago, when Fronimos was located a few doors down in the same plaza, I fell lin love with their rice. To this day, it is still exactly the same. The rice paired with a gyro is to die for. Don't even get me started on their Greek fries because those are in a whole other league. I have zero complaints about this restaurant- it's no wonder that a local business has grown to be such a succesful one!

Went to Fronimo's because we were craving Greek food. The food is reasonably priced, but boy is it good! Tasty and flavorful! We liked it so much we were craving it again the next day and went back! Great food and really friendly service. Definitely recommend for anyone in the mood for Greek food.

I like coming to Fronimos. We used to hold our Ad2 Tucson board meetings here (and on occasion still do). The lunch crowd seems to be the 60+ age range, but I still love it nonethless. It is quiet and they bring your food out very fast. I like to order the hummus. Friends of mine love the greek fries, and the greek salad. I have tried a lot of things here like the chicken pitas and the gyro and those are also great. If you are going to have a meeting, you can reserve the room, which has doors so that it is quiet. The room accomodates a bunch of people and their service is great.

  • Joelle A.

We were craving Greek and this place was the closest. Everything tastes pretty good, but seemed under seasoned. Nothing spectacular, but we will give it another try someday and see if it was a fluke (it was late). Wait staff weren't great. We came in, there were two other customers and two servers hanging around. The other two had already ordered to-go and were waiting. No one acknowledged we were there, and with the two year old, it's not like we were quite and hiding or anything. We finally had enough of being ignored and were packing up to leave when the server finally made his way over.

I have been eating here fro years, and now I can't even think about going back. The food has been going down for years, but I kept hoping it would get better, because it is so very close to the Loft. The moussaka is has a bitter after taste, and the baba ghanoush is scary bad, inedible. I don't know what they are doing, but I will not go back for a while.

  • Victoria G.

George's rice alone is enough reason to go there. My companion has that greekest of meals--the double cheeseburger (George, if you read this, how about making a fresh meat (not frozen) hamburger?) while I love everything. I can recommend it all--but for the non-adventurous eater be warned the hamburger patties are frozen. Be sure to try the baklava that is made fresh on-site.

This is my favorite Greek place in town. The same family has run it for over a decade, the food is wonderful & authentic. The gyro plate, & dolmades are my favorites & the baklava is always perfect.

  • Heather T.

The food is good and while it is counter service, the servers do manage to find you, which is appreciated considering I have worked counter service before and it can be difficult to do so. I was surprised at the quality of the salads as well as the moussaka and pasticio for it being a small establishment. I will definitely enjoy the food here the next time I meet friends for food, drinks, and a nice discussion.

Fronimo's is around the corner so we decided to place a carryout order. The service was "meh". Nothing bad, nothing good. Now the food. I love Gyros and nothing upsets me more than places that serve preformed patties. The meat should be on a spit, revolving and lovingly being carved off. Even the Greek place in the mall food court does this, but not Fronimo's. If I want preformed patties I'll get them myself and make my own Gyro plate. Huge fail there. I was craving one of my Greek favorites, Saganaki and they don't make it. Seriously? I don't expect a food court restaurant to make this, but I certainly expect a sit down Greek restaurant to have Saganaki. The hummus was bland and the tabbouleh was 90% parsley. Decent salad and pita bread. Honestly, the next time we want fast Greek food, we'll drive to the mall. If we want a sit down dinner, with Saganaki, we'll go to Athens on 4th.

Absolutely wonderful food and service. Everything is made from scratch, from the dolmades to the hummus. Family owned and friendly staff. We sat on the back porch and enjoy the warm Tucson weather. Nice Ambiance. Reasonably priced. Food is ordered and paid for up front, then delivered to table. We will definitely come back!

  • Scott W.

Good food (the Gyro, for some reason, is especially tasty). Friendly friendly staff. No table service (which suits me just fine). Fast casual Greek food. I wish the tzatziki were a little bit saltier. Sometimes, in their souvlaki, the rosemary is a bit overwhelming. Yes, I know it's Greek food...but... The place is clean clean clean. The fries were amazing (Greek restaurants always have the best fries). The food is well-priced. And they have Coke Zero (why don't more people have Coke Zero????). I go there at least twice a month. It's my stop especially when I want baklava.

  • Becca T.

The food was OK but the service was realllly slow I know that we were a big group but they didn't apologize once as a few other people have said the falafel wasn't crispy will not be back

  • Tuyen C.

Good food, comfortable atmosphere. I have been coming here for years but I often ordered gyros, hummus, falafel, etc ... Broke out of my mold the other day and tried the lamb shank. It's like getting hte feeling when one finally breaks down and gets a microwave or a smart phone. How the heck did I get along before without Fronimo's lamb shank as part of my Greek food selection? The meat must have been marinaded and cooked in all the spices and herbs for months before it was served. I eat a lot of rice with my daily meals, but the side of rice served with Fronimo's lamb shank was such a perfect companion to the meat. Besides the excellent food, what I like about this place is its unpretentiousness. You simply order at the counter, sit down and they'll bring your order to you. If you thought Athen's or My Big Fat Greek Rest are the only places to get Greek food, you have been missing out. Last but certainly not least, they make their baklavas right there on premise.

  • Adam F.

What I liked about this place: the good prices, service, the quantity of the side dishes, and the pita dishes What I felt could use improvement: the quality of the sauces, meats and the soup. It felt too "American" for being advertised as a Greek place. It wasn't the Greek experience I thought it was going to be. You order our food up front and then they bring the food to you. You don't get the whole Greek experience, but for the price it was a good meal.

  • Joseph L.

Pretty basic (and decent) Greek food and reasonable priced...if it wasn't Aimee I'll never stop by because of their location... 1/2 more star because of the friendliness...

This is not a sit-down diner. You walk up to a counter, place an order, and wait in a table for your food to arrive. Don't let this casual set-up fool you; the food here is great. The boyfriend is a huge fan of the lamb shank. At thirteen dollars, it is such a good deal. Large portion size and delicately seasoned so the meat itself stands out. A meal so great, it almost feels out of place in the casual environment of Fronimos. The rice pilaf that accompanies it is amazing, too. It is lemony and light, a super zesty side dish to offset the heaviness of the meat. It almost steals the show of this dish and is pretty addicting. This was also the side dish of my moussaka order and, not wanting to eat everything on my plate, I decided to forgo eating moussaka so I could eat more of the pilaf. It's that good. However, one cannot ignore the Fronimo's moussaka. It is very decadent, with layers of potato, beef, and lots of cream but at the same time not too heavy. I'd be scared to know the calorie count on it though. I've also had the gyros here. Great, but the pita bread tends to be too cold and almost rubbery. it is definitely not the best but good nonetheless. I really like this place and I think I like it more than Athens. Gasp!

  • Terra N.

Friendly staff and good food; not the best, but its good. Service is really great. If you like Greek food this place is a good place to pop in. Fast, but not fast food. Cafe style ordering and then they bring the food to you.

  • Lindsay W.

Great food! The gyros are delicious! I always have to get the baklava when I visit as well because it is so good. After trying My Big Fat Greek Restaurant and being unimpressed, Fronimo's is now my local Greek place to go for a filling and delicious lunch or dinner.

    (4)
  • Jim W.

Fronimo's is sort of a Greek version of Chipotle. You order at the counter, take a seat at a table and wait for someone to bring out your food. I had a gyro with a small Greek salad on the side. The gyro was average. Better than something you would get from fast food or a mall food court counter but not on a par with a number of other Greek restaurants I have tried. The salad was good but very heavy with dressing. Plenty of feta cheese, only one kalamata olive :-(. The baklava was average as well. Soggy, no crispy phyllo... I would choose Fronimo's over fast food or local chain restaurants.

We had an extreme craving for Greek food: hummus, pita, tzatziki mmmmmmm. Tired of the offerings by campus and needing to stick to a college kid's budget, we decided to try Fronimo's out. I had the chicken souvlaki with rice. The souvlaki was very moist and yummy, quite different from what I've been experiencing at many other Greek restaurants. The rice was good also, although a bit too lemony for my taste. The staff was friendly, and I especially liked the ambience they maintained there (definitely helped with the feeling of authenticity). Will be back again :)

My favorite Greek restaurants are in Greektown in Chicago. That being said, this restaurant is good, as far as Tucson goes, but not great. Our gyros didn't have tzatziki sauce on them, but perhaps that was simply an oversight that day. Our Greek salads were, in my opinion, topped with too many thick onion slices. Staff was very friendly and our appetizer sampler was very nice.

This place surprised me! I was feeling uneasy since my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the entire restaurant at the time I went- granted it was a weird time in between lunch and dinner so it makes sense. But on to the food! I decided to have the veggie gyro and my boyfriend had the original gyro. I would say that the tzatzkiki sauce was a little too sour and watery for my taste but it wasn't horrendous. The pita in which the gyro was wrapped in was extremely yummy and it is very reasonably priced. The star of our meal was the fries! Fried in olive oil and sprinkled with amazing spices and lemon juice, not to mention feta, they were a taste of heaven on earth soooooo good.

the food is 4 stars and the relaxed, comfortable, unpretentious and service makes it 5 for me. I really like that this place is locally owned, and the owner (or their family) are always there present making sure everything is going right. The old man whos the cook must be the owner and he is so nice and seems like he takes pride in his food and that you get a good experience. Not sure what Pneelie P was talking about "cheap starches", well if your ordering fries I guess thats true but YOU'RE ordering that cr*p. The salads and even the side salads are full of real lettuce (i.e. not iceberg) and I've never thought anything I ever ordered was skimpy. Also the hummus is good, the way it should be, its obvious that its homemade because it is grainy, the junk you buy in the store is smooth because they put plenty of other junk to make it that way... Everything there seems to be homemade with the exception of the pita bread, even then I'm not sure.

Not my favorite place for Greek, but it's alright. POSITIVES: + Greek Fries. French fries drizzled with a little bit of olive oil, pepper, salt, and feta cheese. I just love fries! + Grilled hot pita bread with meal + Good price, huge servings + Ample seating. + Ample parking NEGATIVES: - I ordered a Falafel, I didn't like it but I have to say that I normally don't eat Falafels.

Consistent, basic, tasty Greek take-out. It's definitely not the best restaurant around, but it's convenient, a good value, and overall has good food.

Tasty. Dropped by before going to The Loft. I had the veggie wrap, mom had Tabouleh, sister had falafel wrap. Everything was fresh and good. We shared the "Greek Fries" with the feta, hers, and lemon. Yum. A nice tip of the hat to greek roasted potatoes. We left happy.

A few months ago I went to this restaurant for the first time and gave it an unfavorable review. I has the opportunity to go back today and had a yummy falafel platter. The restaurant has a nice, casual neighborhood vibe, with some people in the private room celebrating a birthday.

Let me preface this review by saying that I've lived in Greece. I know what a Greek Gyro looks like, tastes like, and feels like. That said, Gyros at Fronimo's are a decent Americanized version. The meat wasn't carved. Since it has some patties, it was more like a hamburger in a pita. The Tzatziki was a bit runny, but fair. I also ordered a spanakopita, which tasted like it was fairly fresh. However, it lacked feta and was not in the traditional pastry (hand-held) form. All in all, I went a bit out of my way while in Tucson to go to Fronimo's, but am not sure I'd go out of my way for it again. The decor and friendliness were great, and the server understood my order in Greek. However, the quality of the food was okay, and the prices were a bit high (for the cost of what is being served).

Firstly, I love the music here. It really promotes a fun atmosphere that's great for a gathering of friends. A huge group (~8 people) crammed into one of their large corner booths and enjoyed pita, salad, their excellent fries, and for a few of my friends, half of a small chicken. Everything smelled delicious and tasted great! Our server was very friendly, and the food arrived in a timely manner. I ordered a large Greek salad, but I want to come back to try the other yummy foods on their menu. Everything is reasonably priced as well.

While visiting family in Tucson we decided to try Fronimos. The food was very good. The chicken souvlaki plate is moist and perfectly seasoned. We also tried the homemade greek yoghurt. What a treat! 100 times better than greek yoghurt bought at the grocery store. Although, the food was far better than average the greek salad did not meet expectations. Overall, Fronimos provides a great atmosphere for good greek food with family or friends.

Poor food, from quality and quantity, to presentation, a big fat zilch. The sauce on my gyro ran like melted ice cream and tasted like milk too. The fries were raw and the Greek fry was some lemon sauce looked like salad dressing, and the falafel was awful. I will never return and would never advise anyone to go to this place for any reason not even water which was UN filtered.

Yup......Gyros still awesome. French fries(regular) - amazing. BTW, they use the real gyro meat, not the premade strips like Pita Jungle passes off. Their pitas are amazing, but I still think the gyro at the Park Mall(of all places) are the best.

Turn at Walgreen's! There, I just took away the only drawback. This place is exactly what I want in a restaurant. Perfect value. It's not full service so that removes a lot of opportunity for bad service. If you're looking for the absolute best Greek food in town, this place might not be it, but it would be close. Again, it's about value for money. It's better than the price as far as I'm concerned. I haven't had every single thing on the menu, but I've had most of it. The highlights for me are: Greek Salad Gyros Spanakopita Souvlaki Pita Hummus Moussaka The rice and fries you get on the side with some meals are really great too. I'm not a huge fan of the Tabbouleh, but I realize this is a style thing. I've had better, but maybe this is really how it's supposed to be. I'm from here, how can I know?

I've always gotten take-out here, so I can't rate on the atmosphere of the actual in-house experience. The cashiers are always the same people, and I feel like they recognize me, even if they don't. They're fast, and don't rush you if you haven't decided. Always willing to give a recommendation for anyone on the fence. They're incredibly friendly and happy, and always oblige to give me extra falafel. The pita and hummus is definitely the highlight, no matter what I get. The pita is always so warm and fluffy, the hummus tastes just different enough every time to let you know that it's freshly made. It's still consistent enough to be delicious and a go-to. The greek fries are good, the falafel is always flavorful, and the tabbouleh is lighter than most other tabbouleh I've had. It doesn't feel as weighed down by the olive oil, which is great. It's a great Tucson staple.

I have gone to Fronimo's for many years ever since we've moved to Tucson 19 years ago. I haven't including my husband in this review since mostly I've eaten here with the office I worked in. It's always busy in there at lunch time, mostly working people on their lunch hour. Easy place to get a really great quick bite. You order at the counter and they bring your order to the table. Good system for quick service. It is also reasonably priced. It's clean and welcoming with lots of great seating to accommodate large parties. We had lot's of lunch Birthday parties here from the office. The food is fresh tasting and presented beautifully. Haven't been here much with hubby, he isn't turned on to Greek food as I am. I've been a "wuss" and just have the Gyro plate. The gyro meat is tender and oh that Pita is grilled to perfection. But I can say my co workers get assorted other dishes and love it as well.

I usually don't take the time to write reviews, but this place was SO bad. I'd give it a zero if I could, The two guys taking orders did not know what they were doing. You could not pay by credit card because they didn't know how to load paper in the register. They were disorganized and overwhelmed. We had a group there of about 20 for early dinner (arranged weeks in advance) and the place was not prepared. There was a significant wait to order, and I had even come after most of my group had ordered. I finally got to order (paid cash) and they said they would bring my food to me (but did not ask where I was sitting). 30 minutes later I decided to find out what was up with getting my order. Turns out it had been sitting up at the counter for who knows how long and was totally cold. I asked why and they said they didn't know where I was sitting. They never came to the group room to ask and blamed me for not telling them. No offer to heat it up either. I was also disappointed in the food. The meat portion was very skimpy and most of the plate was loaded up with cheap starches and an overload of sauce. I've lived a mile form here for years and have never tried this place. I'm glad now, will never be back, and will recommend staying away.

So, this was definitely a nice little find, and although the food wasn't very impressive, I'd still go back if I were really craving for some Greek and didn't want to travel very far. The dining area of Fronimo's was very welcoming: brightly lit with tables spaced out accordingly, nice artwork and festive Greek music. The best part was that there were customers there, seemingly enjoying themselves. That's a good thing. A great place to take kids. We were quickly greeted and told how to order. You're supposed to order at the counter, and they'll bring you your food. So, it's pretty much a self-serve place because you get your own drinks, condiments, napkins, etc. It would be completely up to you if you wanted to tip. I ordered the moussaka (beef, eggplant, and potato casserole), and my boyfriend ordered a gyro combo plate with a chicken souvlaki (kabob). My moussaka was mediocre. The first half of it was good, and then it was as though my taste buds became bored of it. The rice pilaf that was served was not particularly interesting either. As for my boyfriend's gyro, it did not have any fresh greens in it; it only had two slices of tomato and some tzatziki. His chicken souvlaki was plainly seasoned, and it was basically a strip of chicken breast grilled on a stick. It was, however, very tender. His fries were also very good, nice and hot when they were served. Cute place, mediocre food, but definitely worth a try. Next time I go, I'll order something else on their menu.

Pita Bread... Yummmm Serving Size... Awesome!! Location/Service... Get it, Fronimo's! My friends and I decided that we were hungry for some Greek food, and when we are hungry, we mean it. Fronimo's happened to be the closest Greek restaurant according to our Navigation search on our phones, so once we figured out how to get to the restaurant (this can be a little tricky) we were on our way to see what this Tucson establishment was all about. The best way to describe this place is a hidden gem. The restaurant interior was inviting and the staff were all very friendly while they waited for us to order. I love when I find local restaurants that are family owned-- and I was surprised to find out that this place has been around for 17 years!! The service was exactly how service should be- checking up on the tables often, offering drink refills even though the fountain was available in the dining room, and clearing our plates when we were finished even though you typically just clear them when you are done. The food! Ooooh the pita bread! After chatting with the restaurant owners a bit, I found out that they make their food fresh- and you can definitely taste this in the pitas. Crispy edges, soft center... ok now I'm drooling. The Greek fries were definitely a great buy as well! French fries, drizzled with olive oil and feta cheese- um, yum! I got their chicken shish kabob sandwich with a side of rice pilaf-- for what I paid for, I couldn't believe how big the serving sizes were! I couldn't even finish the rice, even though I so badly wanted to. This is a great place to get some yummy Greek food quickly. I will definitely be back here in the future!

Entrance at the back; order and sit, but it's quick. Warmly decorated, very clean setting. I had the Greek salad with a chicken souvlaki. The thick oregano made the chicken fantastic, and the greens were fresh and GREEN (not iceberg!) The oil and vinegar dressing was not overdone until I got to the bottom of the very generous small salad. Good solid stuff - I'll be back.

Really people? Look, I'm not that demanding, but this place was so slightly below average and ho hum I don't understand why people say it's so good. On my hunt for the best onion rings in town, we came here to give it a shot. Family got one gyro, one falafel, one order onion rings....... gyro was so blah boring just barely there average. Falafel was overcooked and tasted like fried rubber. Pita bread was barely hot and somewhat stiff. Onion rings BLECH! Unlike othe reviewers here, the breading on the rings was so thick and hard it tasted like unleavened bread. Service indifferent. No, I will not return. By the way, so far, best onion rings?....found at UMC hospital cafeteria. go figure.

I love Fronimo's! It's the perfect place for a work lunch, they're quick but it's a nicer atmosphere than fast food. The food is gourmet, but for the price and atmosphere the food is really good. The gyros and rice are the best. They also have a private room which my office reserved one time for a co-worker's birthday lunch. It's was great for that, again quick and good food but a nice atmosphere where we had a room to ourselves and didn't disrupt the entire restaurant with our group.

I would like to say I'm a little bit of a Greek food snob...actually I'll just say it---I am a snob. My Pastichio is fabulous...seriously I day dream about how good it is and how I could serve it in a restaurant...I have never had any pastichio as good as mine. Fronimo's is pretty darn close it is delicious and so close to mine that I couldn't get enough of it---imagine a white sauce style of lasagna with ground meat that is seasoned with aromatic spices---it is seriously divine. I went to Fronimo's for lunch to meet with a group on Tuesday and it was great! I had the Greek Salad and the Pastichio and I am looking forward to trying more---I'm almost scared to try anything else because I really did enjoy the dish. Other than that the decor was meh...but for lunch this is definitely a nice treat.

Very clean and attractive interior. The background music made my toddler dance all through lunch. The staff was courteous and helpful. The location is good but parking was a bit confusing. The Guilin lot doesn't connect to the lot out back behind Fronimo's. The gyro was pretty good but spectacularly messy, better than plenty I've had but not the best. The rice was acceptable, the fries were excellent. The salad was a salad - My wife's had one olive, I don't think mine had any. My pork souvlaki was overdone and a bit overseasoned. I will be back, but am looking for more consistent options.

Horrible, tasteless food served in a ghastly fast-food type place. I've been several times in Greece as well as eating at Greek restaurants in US and abroad but I've never experienced such a failure in terms of taste as well as variety. The only thing that worth the money was the baklava which was really good. Never again!

So we have been twice. The Gyro Beef/lamb is very good. The hummus was the one weak item, a bit grainy and not enough flavor, almost like they ran out of Tahini and used to much of the Garbanzo beans and not enough seasoning. Still worth going there.

It was ok, but nothing special. Had a gyro special...the gyro was good, but not great. I couldn't wrap the meat with the pita, which was not good. I got the rice and fried as sides. The rice was not very good...the fries were really good. Spent 9 dollars with tax. The place is nicely and simply decorated and service was good. It wasn't bad, but not sure if I would go again.

The best "Greek Cafe" in the area (compared to places like Ali Baba, Fat Greek, Jim's). The food here is outstanding. The meats are tender, not dry, the sauces are flavorful and the menu is plentiful. They offer nontraditional items, such as hamburgers and onion rings, but their main focus is on Greek food. My favorite item here is the chicken gyro. I try to avoid pig and cow whenever possible so seeing chicken offered on what usually is a beef dish prompted me to try it. Every chicken gyro that I have had before has been dry. This is not the case here. The tzatziki sauce is a little on the runny side but tastes just right. For drinks they offer Italian sodas at $2.25 each, and these can have cream added to them for that extra sweet taste. They also have standard soda, Greek beer, and specialty coffees. The layout is typical in Tucson, order and pay at the register and your food is brought to the table. The decor does not promote savoring of your food. There are numerous ceiling fans which create shadows and a feeling of being rushed. Fronimo's sits on the edge of Speedway and the wall facing the busy street is a giant tinted window. You can see an up close view of cars speeding past as you eat your meal.

I am glad to see that there are so many 4 star reviews, as I was surpised at how disappointing my dinner was earlier this week. The good news is that the 2 women working there were very friendly and didn't mind that we lingered after dinner. And the fries (regular) are very good basic fries. The pita bread that our meats came on was also fresh and warm. Now the less than good news - my gyro meat was so dry I could hardly eat it. It was cut into big slabs rather than thin slices, so maybe that was part of why it was so hard to get down. Perhaps this is the correct way to serve it, but that is not what I usually encounter. My friend ordered the schwarma plate, and it came with 1 measly stick of overcooked, but well seasoned pork. She had to fight to get the pieces of meat off of the stick, and once she did, they just were not appealing. When you go to Opa for the chicken schwarma plate, you get a whole heap of chicken, and it's juicy and tender. I hope this was just an off night for Fronimo's.

We've been going to Fronimo's for years, even when they were at their old location a few doors down. I always get the gyro plate with Greek salad (dressing on the side otherwise the salad will swim!) and fries. Sometime the avgolimono soup calls my name -- very tasty. The rice with lemon & chicken stock is deelish. I like the gyro meat much more than what is served at Opa! on Campbell. The gyro meat at Opa! is too salty, almost dessicated, where Fronimo's gyro is very tender. My wife loves their other dishes that involve a bechamel sauce. Good food and good prices - always a pleasure.

Here is what I love; Avgolemono soup, little Greek salad, and fries. The fries here are deep golden, and always HOT HOT HOT! The salad is crisp, with real Kalamata olives (watch for pits!), salty feta cheese, a little cucumber and tomato. Finally, my favorite soup-orzo pasta, chicken broth, and a pucker factor from the lemons. For $9.00, I'm a very happy girl.

I totally agree with the other reviews here that Fronimo's is probably your best bet when it comes to Greek food in Tucson. Unless you only get that blue-and-white craving annually (and can wait for the fabulous cuisine of the Greek Festival), come to this midtown joint for great food and friendly service. I'm a huge fan of the gyro (what Greek aficionado isn't!) and Fronimo's doesn't disappoint. Lamb is tender and well spiced, the pita bread (which comes from a local bakery, they don't bake it themselves) is fab and the tziki sauce is spot on. The only improvement I would make is lamb of a higher quality, but at this price in this market, it's not too shabby. The spanikopita (my personal favorite) is great, the feta cheese is always fresh and the filo dough is perfectly crispy, however I would personally prefer them to drain the spinach a bit more. It tastes too spinach-y, if that makes sense? Greek festival definitely pwns (read: is better than) Fronimo's spanikopita, but by no means is it a bad spinach pie. The baklava is also very good, though I would personally like to see less cinnamon (an American addition). The building itself is located in a nondescript stripmall on the south side of Speedway Blvd, it's easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Inside, tasteful decor and comfy booths adorn the space, with a large enclosed meeting area if you'd like to host a business luncheon or something. Another plus, the cooks (whenever I've gone in) are always Greek!

I have been going here with my family for over ten years and have never once been disappointed by a single menu item. These guys just recently moved a few doors down from where they used to be and the new location is great. The decor is much more than you'd expect from a self-proclaimed fast food restaurant--pretty murals, a trellis with fake vines, and a small room for private parties. I order the same thing nearly every time I go: chicken gyro with a Greek salad and then my family shares both an order of fries and an order of onion rings because they're so incredibly yummy. The food is primarily pretty heavy.... you kind of have to search for something a little lighter on the menu, but they do have items for people who are a little more conscientious than my fried food-eating family. You can also substitute a salad or Greek rice for fries on any of the meals without charge. This last time I stopped in for an afternoon snack with my mother. We've been in often enough that a few of the employees know us (one of the main managers died a few years back and we've really missed him), but the girl behind the counter this time was new. She held up 100% to our high expectations, going out of her way to pull out a fresh piece of Kataifi because we'd never tried it before. It ended up being delicious, and she checked in on us twice--pretty impressive, for "fast food." We also shared a plate of hummus with an extra pita and an order of fries. We both went in hungry when we went in, but by the time we were done we could barely climb out of the booth to leave! One of the things I like best about Fronimo's is that they have a special water filter, which is great for water snobs like me... even the charcoal-filtered stuff you find in most soda machines tastes funky to me. I would recommend this place highly to just about anyone. They're kid-friendly, student-friendly, and simply could not get better (unless they moved up here to Phoenix!).

Fronimo's is delicious! The prices are decent (especially the gyro sandwhich) and the order at the counter method leaves room for little complications with servers. Well-maintained venue with a very cozy feel. If you're looking for cheap and delicious, here it is.

Came here for my first Tucson Greek food experience and was kinda disappointed ]: I don't really expect great food from this city in the middle of the desert so maybe my expectations were too high! The customer service was extremely friendly and they get your food to you quick.. I ordered a regular gyro (beef/lamb with tomato, onion & tzatziki sauce on a pita) with fries, a piece of baklava, and a snapple for $12. The fries came with their "fry sauce" which is just another spin on a thousand island dressing.. If you eat the fry without condiments it's pretty bland and not even salted, but with the sauce it's better.. The tzatziki sauce was runny and I prefer it more thick and yogurty in texture.. The gyro was good but there were no bold flavors present to make the dining experience memorable.. It was just boring! If you're hungry and looking for something to eat then it will suffice but if you're a true foodie on a flavor hunt then I wouldn't bother coming here. The baklava was good but overpriced, a common trend at any Greek restaurant.. I was only able to eat a few bites because it is so overwhelmingly sweet! I used to enjoy this dessert so I'm not sure if it's because I prefer salty foods over sweets now or because they made it extra syrupy/sweet.. For now, I think I will pass on returning to this place.. Maybe Athen's on 4th or Fat Greek will live up to my standards? We'll see.. So far nothing beats the eats from California!

The staff is very friendly and the food comes out pretty fast. Im a fan of the greek salad with grilled chicken! I also love their lemon-rice soup! The baklava is a little expensive but i must say it is delicious! I wish they served wine or something other than soda. Over all a good experience!

my boyfriend and I shared Athenian chicken and lemon rice soup.I think the proportion is very generous and the food is tasty and super fresh. We still got some left over to take home. Lettuce in the salad is super crunchy. Affordable price. We spent $14 for two people. That's not bad at all. I would go back.

  • Susie H.

Their Avgolémono is not consistent. I advise you not to order it regularly. When it's fresh, it's great. Everything else I've ever ordered has been super. The Athenian chicken is awesome. My other faves are the onion rings, fries, greek hamburger, pita, greek salad, chicken and pork souvlaki, and last but not least the rice pilaf! There's loads of other good things there but those are the highlights from me. I dig the customer service. I love the price. The location is handy (across from The Loft, near the UA) and there's always a seat available.

Greek Cuisine

Greek food is a fine melody of the finest pressed olive oil, fresh fermented bread, colorful vegetables, juicy meat, sea food all cooked in spices and fresh rosemary. The people from Greek were great scholars who aimed to excel in everything they do. The results are quite visible in their food as they are the inventors of olive oil which is beneficial to health. Greeks also made different type of wines from the best quality of grapes fermented in controlled environment.

Today, you can find hundreds of restaurants offering authentic Greek food or popularly termed as Mediterranean cuisine in New York city alone. People wait in line to taste the exotic Greek dishes like saganaki, taramasalata, souvlaki, loukoumades, spanakopita, moussaka, and many more. One thing which most people like about these authentic Greek dishes is abundant use of lemon juice, olive oil, fresh rosemary and sea salt. A smart mix of few ingredients can virtually take you on the pebble streets of beautiful city of Greece.

For those who don't have time to enjoy fine dining should try tasting the famous souvlaki with pita which is type of meat dish, also a trademark Greek fast food. For those who are vegetarian, or vegan can try different versions of Greek Salad. So, if you wish to enjoy a hearty yet healthy meal that tastes divine then try dining at the best Greek restaurant in your city. Greek cuisine not only tastes good but also help maintain your body in a natural way through healthy diet.
