(3.5 stars) Firehouse is my favorite chain sub shop in Tucson. The large sub is huge and meaty! They're very clean and the product is consistently tasty. I wish the meat were a little less like the thin, salty, grocery-store style slices. But for hot subs they beat Quiznos any day. Ooh, and you can order online. It's a great place for a quick stop-off at the start of a northbound trip.

I absolutely love this place!! Great food, and good atmosphere. Big sizes for everything. You get what you pay for! :)

Good food, I tried the new Malibu club... Delish. My problem is with the rude staff. A member of my party asked them not to mop because we could smell the bleach and he proceeded to anyway, loudly moving tables and staring at us, even though they were busy and it was a good 15 minutes before close.

Their Sweet BBQ pork sandwich with the Kings Hawaiian sweet bun is amazing! Wish it was a year round option. Their pulled pork is excellent, tender juicy and flavorful! We also enjoyed the siracha beef sandwhich. Sometimes service is a little slow but the sandwiches are always put together nicely and not thrown together!

After reading the great reviews, a friend and I decided to finally check out Firehouse Subs. We were both hungry enough to chew on our wallets that day, so we were looking forward to some great sandwiches. We ordered the smokehouse beef and cheddar and the chicken salad sandwiches to go. After seeing the pictures, and again reading reviews, we were drooling on our way back home (less than a 5 minute drive). We got home, opened up our sandwiches. We each tried both sandwiches. After two bites, we stopped, looked at each other and said "What?" The bread was dry. I don't mean toasted, crunchy. I'm talking multi day old bread that was dryer than the Rillito River bed outside of monsoon season. And this was on both sandwiches. We've both been to Subway and Eegees (okay sandwiches, nothing to write home about), but compared to those places, these Firehouse subs were sandpaper. Okay, maybe it was a bad day. We'll try again. Fast forward two weeks later, we tried it again. This time, we tried the smoked turkey and the premium roast beef. Same issue. Bread as dry as California's drought. I don't understand. This place has amazing reviews. What am I missing? I talked to a neighbor who swears by the place and he informed me "you're doing it wrong." Apparently, we needed to take our sandwiches around the corner from the pick up and douse them in the selection of hot sauces. Otherwise, as my friend said, "you get a dry, bland, pretty lousy sandwich." So, the claim to fame is the hot sauce selection? I know others on here have had great experiences with Firehouse Subs. Good for them. And please, don't take my word for it. Try them yourself. I may have the palette of a goat.

Firehouse Subs is a solidly great grinder option. Yup, I said grinder (East Coast girl and proud of it!) and I was impressed by my two visits. The space itself is clean and bright, and they offer one of those drink dispensers that have 20934820358 options of soda. They also have an iced tea station - both sweet and unsweet teas. I did a mixture - 70% unsweet and 30% sweetened for a perfect (for me) ratio. Both times I got the Engineer with chopped pickles added. I chose to get the wheat bread option, and it was delicious. Great chew, fluffy, and light all at the same time, and sturdy enough to hold up all of the meat and toppings that they pile onto the grinder. The toppings (tomatoes, lettuce, etc) are fresher and a higher standard than what Subway uses. The first time we ate in the restaurant itself, the second time we did take out to eat at home. The sandwiches definitely hold up better if you can eat them in the restaurant, mainly because when you take a hot sub to go it is bound to get a little soggy in the wrapper. I'm intrigued to try their online ordering system - if it works well I will definitely utilize it as the subs do take a little longer than the average grinder place to come out.

Firehouse is one of my favorites and I have gone many times and will continue to go back often. The food here is always great and the staff is super friendly with quick service. Plus, who can resist rounding up your bill to help with such a great cause? I have noticed, however, a slow shrinkage in the size of the sandwich with a opposite growth in the size of the bill. If these two things continue to move in the wrong directions then I may need to rethink my choices.

One awesome sandwich; then look no further fresh tasty full of flavor Great for everyone for the kids young and old. I've come several times and always leave very happy full and satisfied. The bread is always fresh & so soft. The staff is extremely friendly & welcoming. Bring the little ones and get a kids meal with a little fireman's hat to take home!! One try & you'll be hooked!!

I have to admit, it was awhile before I tried Firehouse subs. I thought it was just another sub shop. Not so! The manage to come up with a VERY tasty combination of ingredients. I am now hooked on the hook and ladder. Bread is very fresh and tasty. Meat portion just right. Of course, you must get it fully involved. Only down side is their drinks. Nasty tasting. I tried two different flavors. Both disgusting.

This place has great sandwiches and a tons of different sauces that one can add on your own. They have light options and salads for those seeking a healthy option. Also, has the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine for countless drink options. The only heads up would be that it is going to take longer to get your sandwich here over other places if you're in a hurry.

Sure, Firehouse Subs has subs like meatball, Italian, blah blah. But that's not why you come here. You come here for the kinda-sorta-hidden collection of hot sauces to the right of the pickup area. My first look at this rack of deliciousness was like my first time going to a bar and seeing shelves of liquor, ready for my consumption. How does one choose? The hot sauces are labeled by number based on spiciness. If you're tolerant of spices, you could binary search your way to your favorite (NERD ALERT!) or pick any of the higher ones that sound tasty. If you're not tolerant of spices, be like Drake and start from the bottom. Rich's recommendation: face the pickup area, look a few degrees to your right. Small sauce cups and lids are available if you need some for a takeaway order.

On both of my visits I had a sandwich featuring pastrami. The first time was straight pastrami "fully involved'... more on this in a minute. The second time was the New York Steamer with pastrami, corned beef, provolone, mayo and Italian dressing. Both sandwiches were very much to my liking. My wife tried their meatball sandwich , which their radio advertisements brag about. Her base comment was that it lacked flavor, but we agreed that their bread is among the best of the sandwich shops. Now back to... pastrami. I recommend getting "fully involved" with your pastrami sandwich here. Which is to say it would be the aforementioned pastrami tucked in that nice, soft, fresh bun underneath a blanket of provolone decorated with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion and a pickle spear on the side. Of course, you can always get your sandwich as stripped down as you want, but if you are going to build a relationship with a sandwich this good, you need to get fully involved.

best sandwiches in town and the friendliest workers, and if your order is wrong (not that it is) they will fix it no hesitations, the place os always clean and they go atoung asking if you need anything. For me it just feels noce to be in there and the staff is what helps plus it food is for me the best.

Best in town! (Well besides saugage shop), forget, subway, sausage deli, Jimmy johns, even Frankie s this place has it all at a fair price! Finally Tucson has something to give the other half ass places in town some competition! Enjoy!

Absolutely delicious Subs. Friendly service and great drink selection. The Corned Beef and Pastrami are so tasty! Meat-packed sandwiches that never fail to deliver.

Let me just say that the food is great. But service, is lacking. Went there at around 730 and didn't leave until after 8 for a takeout order. The place was empty. There were 4 people work, all just standing around talking. It shouldn't take 30 mins to make two sandwiches. This is the second time this has happened to me in the last month

  • Timothy O.

Every sandwich is excellent. The brisket is my favorite. Gets pretty crowded at the lunch hour but that's a sign of great food.

  • Nick S.

Great sub at a good price. After eating here it will be hard to eat at subway. The subs here have more meat and taste by far better. Well worth the wait for subs.

    (4)
  • Jennifer D.

Pastrami sub what????? I am all over this place! I can't stop raving about it to my friends and family! You can't afford not to eat here. The food is that good! Great friendly place the staff yells "welcome to firehouse subs" when you walk in. So don't be alarmed. (get it alarmed? like a firehouse alarm....) ANYWAYS! Go eat and enjoy the subs!

  • Dawn K.

I have gone over here many times on the way home from work. They have meatball subs which my husband loves, CHerry limeade which I could drink a gallon of and it's a hot sub place with a firehouse theme. The staff have always been attentive and it's consistently a good meal. A bit on the pricey side for subs, twice what i'd pay for Eegee's. Yet it's got some really mouthwatering hot subs.

    (4)
  • Marc S.

Unique tasty subs. Close second to Eegees. Love the firefighter theme!

  • Anthony B.

Absolutely amazing food and service... Yes I'm talking about a fast food sub shop I took my dad here for his first time and he is still raving about it 7 hours later. The subs are simple and very tasty. They will adjust any sub on the menu I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich. Soft sweet Hawaiian roll with tender pulled pork and creamy cole slaw with a nice kick from the pepper jack cheese.... UH-MAH-ZING !!!!!!! Been there about 10 times and will be back this month !!!!!

11:30 on Saturday morning and they are OUT of Chili. Not well managed. Very young argumentative manager. With his sub my husband wanted the chili. $3.69 for a cup is not bad, but not great either. The cup was half empty. I noticed a man one table over eating his chili and his cup was full. The server said they were "rationing" it as they were low. I asked for the manager. The manager came over, told me the half cup was acceptable to her but would bring us more "when it was done". Never came. Needless to say we just ate and left. Chili was mediocre anyway. They should have refunded our money if they could not fill the order. My husband loved his Meatball Sub. My Chicken Club sub was nice but bland. No spice, no sauce....bland. So we will not rush back any time soon. Read a big article in the paper a few weeks ago so we went out of your way to try it. Expected it to be great.

Welcome to Firehouse!!!! Those are the words you will be greeted with when you walk in the door. I am a fan of Firehouse from when I lived in Florida. The sandwiches are now your ordinary sandwiches. They have some really great flavor combinations. For your first visit I would recommend the Club on a Sub or the NY Steamer. These are two of their best but won't got wrong with any item on the menu. I have had them all. Not all at once!!

This is my new sandwich place. Delicious quality sandwiches and a cool atmosphere. I recommend the smokehouse beef & cheddar brisket but add veggies!

Hot subs that are actually hot, unlike Subway's "toasted" subs. One of the kids got a grilled cheese on bread that Subway can't do so if you are looking for a sub, hot or cold, this place beats Subway hands down. We came at high noon and the parking lot was packed and I feared a mob scene but the line moved very fast (3 cashiers) and there were still places to sit because its pretty big for a sandwich shop. They could use a second drink dispenser only because a few people are unfamiliar (me) with all the billions of choices and we slow the line down. But an employee was right there to help me solve my dilemma. The food quality was great with plenty of chips selections. We'll be coming back often.

Too expensive for what it is. I have been here about 3 times, I've tried a few sandwiches but the only one I'd reorder is the brisket and BBQ. It's a good sandwich, but the combo is over $10. The sandwich has really good, tender beef with good BBQ on it. The problem is, it's not big at all. I could probably eat 2 honestly.

Good atmosphere and great customer service. Had the steamer and italian sub to go. The steamer was fab! I am in love with custom Coke machine. I got some flavored sparkling water, yum!

Update!!! Another good review. I think the sandwich I got this time was even better than the first, if that's possible. I went to Firehouse Subs over the weekend with my daughter and mother. I ordered the new pulled pork sub with the Hawaiian roll. OMG! It was so good! It was meaty and juicy. It had the cole slaw on it. The roll was soft and fresh. It wasn't as loud and crazy as the first time I went but it was busy and we got the last table inside that wasn't occupied. We will be back next time we are in Tucson.

This place is very clean and the BBQ cheddar brisket sub is quite tasty. The big problem we had was that it took forever to get our food, and my husband's sub was wrong. When he pointed it out to the staff member, he was given an attitude and told that was what he ordered. He then spoke with the manager to explain it was wrong, and then she told him they would fix it but told him next time he needed to be more specific. She was quite argumentative and rude so I can see how the staff would follow suit. Place is overpriced and service was lousy. Very disappointing.

I thought the subs were good, not outstanding and fairly expensive. The staff were friendly and the place was very clean. I would go back but not go out of my way to drive there.

Drove over from the Eastside, it was completely worth it! We decided to check it out because they generously give away a free bday sub, no coupon needed. We got the Kings Hawaiian pork and slaw. It was fantastic. A perfect ratio of meat to slaw on a super pillowy roll. We also bought the Brisket and Cheddar and the NY Steamer which is corned beef and pastrami. Both of these were amazing. All had an ample amount of meat, which made my hubby very happy. The facility was very clean and bright and the cashier sweet, competent and quick. I really hope someone opens a Firehouse subs on my side of town but in the meantime we will take the occasional 'road trip'. Yes, it is that good! Oh, and can't wait to try the under 500 cal menu, looks great! :)

The subs are not bad. But it takes forever to get your order. I've been here numerous time and it doesn't matter if they they are busy or not, plan on waiting for your order. Today's order was wrong...i got home and after waiting 13 minutes for two subs, one of the had an item I requested be removed, and was missing an item I requested be added.

Wonderful for what it is. The subs are expensive but delicious and high quality. The staff is helpful and friendly and the store is new so still very clean. The real draw, though, is the soda machine. I'm not even sure what to call them still but if you've used one you probably know what I'm talking about; touch screen, over a hundred choices. Highly recommend this place. Just be ready to shell out $10 per person.

This place is quite the trek for us, but I'm glad we finally made our way to it! For a chain sandwich shop, Firehouse Subs is actually really good! Upon entering, you see a very, very clean space. All the tables were clean, the floors were clean. The decor was decent, the lighting was good. Overall, it's a very inviting space. They have the ordering and pick-up lines clearly labelled, so understanding where to go was simple. It was made even easier by the very friendly employee that greeted us at the door. She explained some of the sandwiches and pricing, and gave us some of her favorites as recommendations. The sandwiches we chose were the Hero and the steak and cheese, both on the white bread sub roll. The Hero has roast beef, turkey, and Virginia ham, and all were extremely moist and tasty. And the sandwich had a lot of all three, making it a pretty substantial sandwich. The cheese didn't have a ton of flavor, but the rest of the sandwich was so juicy and the bread was so soft and fresh, that I didn't mind. The steak and cheese sandwich was great! The steak was the shaved type typical in Philly cheese steak sandwiches. It was quite flavorful and good. The peppers still had a bit of a crunch, adding to the texture of the sandwich. Surprisingly, the mustard that comes on the sandwich was also very good. I'm from the tri-state area and have had quite a lot of cheese steaks in my time. The idea of mustard on one was a little odd for me, but we tried it anyway, and it worked! Overall, these were two very good sandwiches. Also kinda cool, Firehouse has a Coca-Cola freestyle machine. Oh my! The amount of fountain drink options in that thing is mind boggling! We tried their cherry limeade, which was basically very sugary cherry flavored stuff, but it was ok in small quantities. You have to squeeze a lot of limes in it, though, and I added some water in mine to cut the sweetness. Our table was cleaned up for us very quickly by the nice lady that greeted us upon entering. They really cared about cleanliness and making customers comfortable! The pricing was about average. I'd much rather give them a couple of bucks more for what they're serving than pay less at Subway and eat "food" that has no flavor and looks to be the consistency of wax and plastic. Hopefully Firehouse Subs opens a location on the east side now!

I used to frequent Firehouse Subs in Orlando, Florida while going to college and thankfully the Firehouse here in Tucson is just as delicious as I remember. For the uninitiated, Firehouse offers a variety of subs and every single one of them is mouth-wateringly good. Try the Meatball sub for starters. You'll be glad you did. As a side note, this particular location has some fantastic staff. My wife and I waited for our sandwiches and when the lady brought them over, she apologized profusely for the "wait." I think the wait was about five minutes tops. I then apologized for drooling all over the table because my sub was so good. True story. There's also the most wicked Coke machine I've ever seen in my life there. It offers about a thousand choices in soda.

The Firehouse gig is certainly fresh and fun, but I suspect after the newness wears off it won't be as popular as it is now. Founded (not owned) by firefighters but still a big chain franchise restaurant. Forget the Sweet and Spicy Meatball sub. In fact, forget the meatball sub any way. The meat just lacks flavor and is too bland no matter what sauce you put on it. The Italian is good as long as it is hot but the flavors fathers when it cools. It could be served hotter to prevent that. The of the other subs are tasty as well but they could use more meat and cheese. The variety of meats and cheeses are certainly a plus. There are two real downers. First, the Jimmy's-John's-style doorway greeting called out to every entrant: "Welcome to Fire...House!" There is usually a drawl on the vowels. The first time or two is cute but anything more becomes as annoying distraction from the meal. Second, the Coca Cola Freestyle machine with more than 120 brands and choices. Great idea and way cool, but not practical or efficient in a fast serve place. Everyone has to use the single user machine. Ridiculously long drink lines every time all the time. Even for water. No bueno.

    (3)
  • Claire N.

Pretty freakin good, and crafted by firemen! What more could you ask for? The coca cola machine in here is awesome! I've never seen so many flavors or combinations. I actually had a difficult time selecting a beverage. Good food, fun fountain drinks and nice atmosphere.

I ordered the Tuna and it was good....honestly hard to screw up but I did like it and I would recommend trying it out if you are in the area! Staff was helpful and it was packed so I am guessing everything was good!

This place is great. Each time I've been there the place was packed, the service was quick, and the food was delicious. I love the corned beef sandwich, and their BBQ sauce is to die for. They also have a really cool soda machine that will vend different flavors of soda, I'm assuming with some sort of syrup to mix in. All in all this is a great place for a great lunch at just under $10 for the whole kit and caboodle.

  • Kyann M.

This is a new place on this side of town so I thought I would pick up a quick sandwich after going shopping. Total bill was $8.93. I had the "engineer" (turkey). It's an 8-inch hot sandwich loaded with tomatoes, lettuce, and other goodies. Bag of chips and a medium drink come with the meal. The sandwich was much better than what you would get at Subway for just a little more cost. Friendly staff!

    (4)
  • Jen W.

The staff at Firehouse Subs are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Almost all the sub sandwiches (with the exception of a few sandwiches) are hot subs. You can get 8" or 12" sandwiches. Most combos are about $8.20 which includes chips and a drink (from the Coca-Cola freestyle machine). I loved the sweet and smoky barbecue Ruffles chips. My favorite sandwich is the Italian on honey wheat. The deli meat is hot, and the toppings are cold. It is recommended to eat the sandwich right away or else it will get mushy even with the thick bread. I know some Italian sandwiches are too sour from the vinegar, but it has a great taste with the Italian dressing and spicy mustard. I highly recommend Firehouse Subs. If you need your sandwich made in less than 10 minutes, I would say to call your order in and take your car to the pick-up window.

We were first time patrons and instantly fell in love with the place. We had our 3 young children with us. We told the young lady at the register that this was our first time and she had no priblem explaining exactly what we ordered!! She also told me that they could split one sub between my kids and they would each would get their own basket!!!! This was amazing!!! Also they have a great soda dispensing machine!!!

  • Jessica D.

At first it kinda smelled funny when I walked in so I didn't want to eat there. They were friendly and helpful from start to finish. We had never been there so we probably did look a little lost but they were quick to explain how everything worked. We decided to give it a try. I got the Turkey Bacon Ranch. I'd say it's a little expensive, but worth it. I've been back once since, and will be returning to try new things. They boil/steam all of their lunchmeat which I think is awesome because it gets rid of all possible bacteria on the meat. I am excited that there's something new in Tucson to try, and the second time I returned it was VERY busy which was a good sign. I liked the sweet tea too! They also have little firemen hats for little kids to wear, thought that was kinda cute.

  • Paul D.

Firehouse is crazy busy. The reason they are crazy busy is because they are crazy good. The reason they are crazy good is because their sandwiches contain a whole days worth of sodium. Their soft drink machine is pretty crazy too.

    (4)
  • Josh S.

That was a great sandwich! Turkey and bacon was my selection. Vastly superior sandwich to the normal sub shops. Yum! Great concept and fun atmosphere. This is an ideal lunch location.

    (5)
  • Kelsie W.

Their subs are awesome! You can get hot or cold and there are many options for meat, including brisket and meatballs. Better go hungry, their subs are pretty good sized. They have one of those fancy new computerized Coca Cola machines. They have a custom drink too--cherry limeaid, very yummy. You have to try the King's Hawaiian Pork & Slaw sandwich while it is still around!

    (5)
  • Bob H.

Ok, the owners are definitely listening to yelp. I stopped in for a tuna sub yesterday and we have a new water/ice/tea station in ADDITION to the soda machine making getting a drink much easier during busy times. Good job.
