It's crowded but lots of women and a nice patio out back.

The best part about this bar is the price of the beers. When I was there they had Sam Adams for $2.50 a glass. That is less than half than most places charge. Is no wonder that they are always crowded. Maybe the other bars on the street to get a hint. it was also a fun place to watch the basketball game. I was alone and still had a good time. Just another very interesting place in a very interesting part of downtown Tucson Arizona

Good things about Che's on a Saturday night: Cheap drinks, free live music...ummm...a variety of people to watch. Bad things about Che's on a Saturday night: Crowded, extremely loud, a rude variety of people that spill drinks on you...maybe grab parts of you that you do not want to be grabbed. I sit on the fence with Che's and I am usually more disappointed each time I go visit and my tolerance for people tends to dip extremely low...which is sad, I usually like people.

The corner locale attracts a lot of attention both good and bad, which ,makes it a perfect dive bar. The inside lighting is dark, the walls decorated with Shepard Fairey posters (the same guy who did Obama Hope), and other quality artists as well. Arcade games in the back give a little splash of entertainment as the place is too small to have darts or a pool table. The bands that play weekly take up 1/7 of the joints functional space and replaces it with blazingly loud music, the drums alone deafen the bathrooms. But its still a good place for the Mambossa's alone( its a drink, just get it, it will be a pleasant surprise in at least 2 ways).

One of my most favorite bars in Tucson...now with patio seating! The hours here are incorrect, they are open from noon to 2AM.

My friends and I used to joke Che's was our second living room. It's a great place to hang out and have day drinks. High quality people watching on 4th Ave. The bartenders are amazing, I've never had anything less than a great bloody mary there. Prices are great, seating is decent, the juke box is diverse, AWESOME art and there's free live music every Saturday night. I can't wait for summer when the "watermelon thing" comes back! A Sunday only summer drink made with fresh muddled watermelon. Talk about refreshing...and dangerous!

Che's Lounge was loud and crowded on the weekend. Despite sitting at the bar I still was unable to get served at any regularity. Not the place to go if you want a relaxing pint to pass the time and chat with your friends on the weekend. But if your scene is a loud yelling at the person next to you and fighting to get a drink hit it up!

  • Emily G.

Love this little dive bar, the live music and cheap tecate keep me coming back for more!

  • Katie B.

Not my favorite place. Everytime I go there I feel like I spend the whole time just trying to walk through people or having people push by me. It takes forever to get a drink, and if a band is playing the place is so small you can't hear anything else. Just not very fun.

Since it's the direct competition to my friend's lair - cannot really be 5 stars... Still - I liked the Che. Hoeggarden and Fat Tire on the tap made me happy, as well as the art on the walls. Very locally produced - from what I heard. The jerk who pat my shoulder to tell me that I had to sit somewhere else because I was too much of a distraction did not (make me happy, that is), though. But the bouncer is good and he was out of there after a few more poor attempts to find himself a lady...... Small space, be prepared to stand!

I always wondered what Che's was like and found myself here during a night of many bars downtown. It seemed like the perfect place to chill with your friends and enjoy a bar scene. Not much room for music or games but my friends and I did enjoy playing Pac-man in the corner. It seems like a great place to meet new people, the bartenders were friendly and quick. The art everywhere definitely kept my eyes busy and even made for some interesting conversation pieces.

Maybe it's not fair to review a bar when I'm not a bar-going-type. Plus, I went on a Tuesday night and I'm guessing that's no a typical time to go. But I'd heard of the popularity of this place and the cozy vibe and I wanted to avoid a crowd for my first time in and so... off I went. First impression was - this is a nice, hole in the wall bar filled with mostly mid 20's to early 30's types. It looked casual. Many were at the bar, talking, smiling, having fun. About half of the small tables scattered around the perimeter were occupied by groups of 3 or 4 people. I saw couples that seemed to be enjoying their drinks and the music while other groups had friends merging into the group, then randomly breaking off to go wherever they go. I went to the bar and grabbed a seat to order a drink. Looking around I saw a couple of hipster types cruising their iWhatever devices and some heavily tattoo'd (but clean shaven) biker types (probably pocket rockets, not the hardcore Harley riders), and some general run-of-the-mill average Janes and Joes - about half were drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon from a can. Now I'm not a big beer person (another clue I'm not a bar-goer) but I thought, what the hell - go with the crowd. So I ordered a PBR (which I overheard someone say, and I wanted to *blend*) and a cherry coke (don't judge me, they're good). I tipped the bartender and then took my drinks to a high-standing table with a candle and a pair of bar stools. Looking around in more detail, the atmosphere sort of grew on me. The music was almost inaudible - good volume, just muddled, so it was hard to say what was playing. The paintings on the wall were interesting. There were various pics of famous people on the wall behind the bar (I assume they were famous - might just have been homeless people; they often share fashion trends). There were some video games in the back, and the folks around them looked happy to drink and play. Overall, it was a great bar as far as I could tell. All different types, mingling about, having a good time. I drank about half the PBR and figured that was my beer for the month, cleaned out my cherry coke and headed home. Thanks Che's for letting me lounge about for a bit on a quiet Tuesday.

It's one of my favorite bars in downtown Tucson. It's a pretty hipster bar, staff are very friendly. The place can get crowded on the weekend. My favorite drinks are Mojito and Bloody Marry. Great for pre-game with group of friends!

    (4)
  • Mindy S.

Great artwork, good liquor selection fabulous jukebox, and some of the best bartenders in town. $1 PBR and High Life, $2.50 well drinks, and always a good pour.

  • Brian F.

By far my favorite spot to grab a drink on 4th Ave. I have always liked the atmosphere here, the people that are there are always mixed, if games are on they are watching them. The art work alone will take you many trips to see it all, plus they just changed it up and have some new stuff. The easiest place to get a drink and not have to wait, good music in the jukebox. Best part is Pac-Man table arcade game in the corner. My suggested drink if you go in here is there Michelada, a little on the tangy side from the lemon juice (the way I like it) but you get to mix the beer and tomato juice the way you want to.

  • Kristina W.

I'm not a regular, but I'm a huge fan. If I had more time to frequent a bar it would be here. But I would have to kill all of the loud college kids, and turn down the music. This is one of the nicest places to spend an afternoon, before it really gets packed or noisy. The only real detraction that this place has is that it's too popular. I always say about Che's the old Groucho line "Nobody goes there anymore, it's to crowded!" Most of the artwork is by Donovan, who is a bartender there, and one of the nicest funniest guys you'll ever ever meet. Chat him up about his stuff before he becomes too famous and gets whisked away to wherever professional artists must go. Cheap beer, insanely good bloody mary's, and a bar staff that has mostly been there since the place opened. Very comfortable place.

I was only here for an hour...but what a great hour it was! Stopping through Tuscon for the first time, I am so glad that we roamed into Che's as it is unique and has cheap strong drinks! Really cool art pieces are hung throughout the bar. Halloween at Che's is the Halloween I wish I could always have. I was served by Popeye, sat close to the Letter U, drank a stong (but cheap) rum and coke, while watching super rad David Bowie music videos. Such a chill, unique, and fun bar.

  • Julie G.

Che's is definitely a good time. I like to go on weeknights or early on the weekends. It tends to get way packed after 10 on weekends. It definitiely pays to get there early and grab yourself a good seat at the bar. The Juke Box alone is a valid reason to go to Che's. Great selection. The vibe is laid back. Interesting art on the walls. Bartenders are nice and talkative when its not busy. Drinks are average price and tend to be on the strong side. Draws a diverse crowd, most of the time fun/nice people. One of my favorites in Tucson for sure. One note is that I hate being there when bands are playing. It gets way too loud and crowded.

  • joe y.

Great drink, great people, great drink, great music, great drink, great local art, great drink, great staff, great drink, wait.... Where was I?.... This place is the local spot that anyone not local can feel at home. Bartenders will take care of ya and the good people there will tell ya a thing or two about life... Like I said great drink!

    (5)
  • Maggie K.

I love Che's. Oh, how many a night has started here and ended badly? I can't even count... $1 HighLifes and $2 wells do not usually make for responsible drinking. The art is great. Or, at least interesting, anyway. The jukebox is fantastic. I love the atmosphere in afternoons, in the evenings, but I generally HATE the place on Friday and Saturday nights (and this is why it gets only 4 stars, which is really not the fault of Che's so much as the throng of kids, just turned 21 who come to wreck my joy). I don't find myself at Che's quite so often these days, knowing, as I do, how nights begun at Che's have a tendency to end poorly. But that start of the night... the start is always fantastic.

    (4)
  • Rachel L.

I really like this bar. It's artistic and different and the drinks are amazingly cheap and there is never a cover or any of that stuff. I've always found the majority of people there are pretty nice and if you go enough the bartenders will begin to know you and will for sure always do their best to get to you fast. I really like it there!!

    (5)
  • Lucky U.

I always have a good time here, staff is cool & worth getting to know. The place can get pretty crowded on weekends and when live music is being played. PBR is $1.50 now...damn Hipsters!!!

    (4)
  • Lisa H.

One of the (many) things I love about Che's is the talented the bartenders. Sometimes my budget is a bit tight and it's fiscally responsible for me to drink the $1 Miller High Life draughts or PBR cans, but when there's a little extra cash in the kitty, I love that the bartenders are not put off (and many times are actually excited) when i want a delicious cocktail but are not sure exactly what. They always have fresh fruit on hand (Donovan's summer watermelon vodka drinks made with agave nectar are to die for!) and I have never had a mediocre bloody mary (Sunday afternoon into night is my favorite time to visit Che's.) Top that off with arguably the best jukebox in town, rolling office chairs to sit on, top notch people watching both inside and out the window, friendly conversation with anyone in the place (employed or not employed by Che's), a woman owner (I love that this town is full of female entrepreneurs!) and free snacks mix for the asking and you've got the best neighborhood watering hole!

    (5)
  • Matthew B.

One of the less pretentious places on 4th Ave. Laid back atmosphere, diverse croud, cheap drinks and good live music. I'd be a regular if it wasnt on the other side of town. I will definitely come back to Che's

    (4)
  • David M.

Che's is a good place to go for a cheap drink. They've got a few decent beers on tap, and what's not to like about $2.50 Sierra Nevada? The staff are pretty good, not always fast, but friendly. And the crazy artwork everywhere is entertaining. Two downsides: it's almost always too loud for my tastes, and it's often very crowded, especially on the weekends. But if you want a cheap drink on a weeknight, this is definitely a solid choice.

  • Brittanie M.

Che's Lounge is a local hot spot on the city's famous 4th Avenue strip. It's a small, locally owned bar with a great, quiet atmosphere. It's eccentrically decorated and the bar staff is super nice and friendly - they remember your name and your preferences if you frequent enough. The prices are great, too, with daily specials. If you just want a place to hang out with your friends on a quiet night, this bar is perfect.

    (3)
  • Saba B.

You just can't beat the $2 cocktail (no, not the blueberry margaritas, but just about everything else). The local art is fantastic, the jukebox almost unrivaled, and the bartenders are fast, friendly, and hip. The crowd is eclectic - gay, straight, collegiate, inked, tweaked, etc. I did see a crazy young chick lift her shirt and suck her own boob outside the window in the smoking area which is a bit over the top trashy, but that's not the norm. This is also a great place to watch the Day of the Dead parade. All around top notch Fourth Ave. joint.

  • Claire D.

This place is run by cool folks and well drinks are 2 bucks so let's give plusses where plusses are due. If you're lucky enough to get a spot in the back corner of the bar or a darkened table, this bar is the best. Be prepared to meet some of downtown's finest drunks if you show up here, particularly before 4 p.m. or after 1 a.m. It can be too loud in there when bands are playing, and too loud in general if you want to cozy up to your very beautiful boyfriend and whisper sweet-somethings, but I get a very distinct singles vibe to this place. It was my favorite place to be when I was in town on vacation and slutting it up. You can almost always break a guy off his pack of wolves and astound him with your drunken attentiveness. Definitely head there if you're looking for the next PBR, the next lush who will break your heart, or the next doe-eyed boy who'll make out with you sloppily on a Thursday night in front of a shuttered-up Puff-n-Stuff.

    (3)
  • Lala M.

Probably my favorite bar of all time. I just love this place. CHEAP strong drinks, $1 PBRs every time I walk in the door. The crazy art all over the place is a nice touch too, & of course I can't forget to mention the arcade games. Free Streetfighter :D

  • Ron R.

Names after a commie? I went once to meet friends but I won't go back again. I'm too much of a patriot.

    (1)
  • Tim J.

Che's bar is a cool place. Great beer selection, great prices, great atmosphere, great location and great art. Hell, you might even get lucky like me and meet one of the artists who frequent the joint and have their art up. Che's is a great local hangout where an out-of-towner still feels welcome. Do yourself a favor. Stop in for a cold one. Or two. Or three. You won't be disappointed.

  • Ann B.

Love this bar! It's a 'dive' without really being a dive, know what I mean? The drinks are cheap (and always a good pour), the bartenders are fun and friendly and it's a plus when you can get a seat. The artwork is amazing (shout out to Donovan)! Yes, it gets crowded with annoying college kids, but that's what you get in a college town in a bar near the University. I love it on a weekend night, but especially love to go here on a Sunday afternoon for a couple cocktails, just to chill with a couple of friends and people-watch out the windows.

    (4)
  • Chelsea L.

I love ches! I love the chex miz i love my favorite bartender Erin! ITs the best place on 4th ave by far!

    (5)
  • Jason M.

Come through here on a recnet trip back to where i lived for a few years. Place hasnt changed much. Laid back vibe, fairly crowded. Good group of people tend to hang out here. I'd say if you were passing through town and wanted to get a good feel for the people that live in this fine city that this would be a good stop to take in.

    (4)
  • Tyler S.

4th ave's best bar hands down. Enough said.

    (5)
  • Barnabas L.

Best thing about this place Dollar PBR... Cheap in price great in taste! Best dollar i have ever spent. The bartenders are pretty chill and nice too. Great place for an old school vibe. I don't know what else to say.. they have really great Mojitos too! Good variety of people there too. I will definitly be back for the PBR..normal Drink prices besides that. Its not bad at all.

    (3)
  • Andrew C.

Not that this place is bad, it just isn't for me, and some places aren't for everyone. I had a round with friends, and we had a tough time getting to the bar tender from... well, everywhere. Seating and bar-space was taken, leaving us standing in the walkways.. pretty annoying.

    (3)
  • Amber S.

Only having been here after work I will say I enjoyed myself. $2 Tecate really hit the spot after a long day. I like how small the bar is and the great wall art. I hear they have live music on the weekends but watch out.... it gets crowded. My vote is....... I will go back for cheap beer and to complain about work!

    (3)
  • Robert J.

This is the best bar on 4th and probably in Tucson. It's relaxed, inexpensive, pretty easy to get a drink, even on weekends. They have live bands pretty often on weekends which are of course, loud. I have loved the music every time but I prefer the place when it's quieter. I'm not a fan of PBR, but for $1, good enough. Cheap drinks all around which is also awesome. Best thing there is the white trash mimosa, which combines a Miller High Life with a shot of OJ. Before you bash it, try it, it's epic, and only $1. Nice art, too.

  • church B.

dollar drafts of the Champaign of Beers is like christmas morning when you were six and christmas still mattered (it kind of shaped your life, really) and you run into the family room and everyone is there and you're screaming because the Big Wheel is sitting there with a bow on it and you can't believe how happy you are and life is good. pints of High Life for a buck is just like that, and Che's is just like your family room because all the same people are on the same bar stools every day just like christmas morning and life is good. getting a drink sometimes (from some of the staff) is a bit like extracting teeth: it'll make you sweat and it kinda hurts & you swear you're never coming back to this dentist but six months later you're in his chair smelling his breath, which smells of beer. which is probably High Life, which he was drinking for a dollar at Che's Lounge.

    (4)
  • Mark A.

Still the most efficient bartenders on fourth (never seems to be much of a wait, and the drinks could not be stronger), with good music and a chill layout. It would be five stars, but since the crowd has become so hipster over the past few years I've got to take it down a star for the poor atmosphere.

    (4)
  • Victor R.

Bar was okay but expensive and ultimately disappointing.

    (3)
  • Erica H.

This was my local watering hole when I was at the U. Doormen were always really cool. Cheap, strong drinks. Even came here to do my power hour...it was an experience. I'll never forget Che's. I'll stop in for a few 50 cent PBR cans soon. Oh how i miss this place...

    (5)
  • Michael S.

Perfect combination of strong cheap drinks, creepy as hell art, old school video games, and the BEST jukebox in Arizona. An everyday bar where it's hard as hell to ever get bored. Except maybe if someone plays the entire collection of Johnny Cash on the jukebox. Please people, keep your worship sessions in your home. What makes the jukebox even better then its amazing mix of fantastic music, is that the dudes who run Che's pay great attention to it like they do to the art in Che's and everything else. They don't ever let the place get stale. They are always putting in new, great CDs and changing out the art, and bringing in music acts and different beers and such. They care a lot about their bar and keeping it fresh and it shows. You will also see them around town at concerts and events and such. I don't think they ever miss an Art Brut show. They love pub music that everyone can sing along and get rawkus to and try to bring that to Che's. It's rare to find owners so in love with their bar, keeping prices low, and keeping their customers happy.

Every time I've been here I've heard like four Neutral Milk Hotel songs

    (4)
  • Scott S.

Great place to grab a cheap beer. 4th avenue is one of the best places for people watching, so what makes it better? $1 beers!!

    (3)
  • Danny M.

You know a place is good when your biggest complaint about it is that there are too many damn people going there! Che's Facts: (1) Che's always has a $1 beer on tap. It's usually High Life but occasionally other (better) stuff, too. (2) Che's has a badass jukebox. One of my favorite things to do is pump in $5 (or $10 if I've already had a few beers) and treat the patrons to some high quality PUNK ROCK. (3) Che's has a cabinet video game machine with many classic games on it. One of the bartenders is the master of Defender, and he will whoop your ass if you try to challenge him. (4) They regularly toss exceedingly drunk people out rather than continuing to serve them. As an exceedingly drunk person, this can be a bit inconvenient, but it's the right thing to do. :)

    (5)
  • Cindy L.

yes, i'm a fan. but then again, i very rarely show up here past 6 p.m. right after work, i can always find a spot at the bar. i'm usually a beer drinker, but with my tastes, i'm hard to please here. so i get mixed drinks instead. it doesn't matter who pours the drink, it is universal that the bartenders don't have any respect for my liver (and that's a good thing). the bar does tend to be on the divey side, but i like it. i've been here for live music before, and then i'd have to agree with those who say it's loud with no place to sit and good luck getting a drink at the bar. for my happy hour activities, this place is just swell.

    (4)
  • Ramin S.

Che's Lounge is cool, with good beer and a big bar. They are conveniently on the corner of 4th Ave. & 6th St. They have chairs outside too (which are only comfortable when there is shade). I've seen people play Scrabble there. They have a jukebox and a big TV, usually with sports on it. They have many interesting paintings on the wall, though incidentally, none of them have anything to do with Che.

    (4)
  • Kaisar Nova K.

Chill spot. Dug the art, music, service and big windows looking onto 4th ave. Nice mixed crowd with plenty of chatter.

    (4)
  • Adam D.

i don't like hippies but i do like super nice bartenders and cheap drinks. also, they have one of those arcade games that has about 50 games on there so that's a win. loss of one star due to their average clientelle who has an attitude to go along with their messenger bag.

    (4)
  • Loren A.

Che's Lounge has such an incredible mixture of people. Easy to hit up a conversation with any soul there. Eye-candy art work there. The drinks are unbelievably cheap but yet delicious and classy. Great place to go to every time I'm in town during a long break. Che's also also adds a nice taste of "Seattle" feel to it.

    (5)
  • Susan R.

The only reason I go to Che's is because all my friends & everyone else in Tucson always end up there! It's an okay average bar, I just hate how loud it gets in there when a band is playing.

    (3)
  • Vande R.

Che's is one of those truly unique places that you miss when you leave a city. There's a great mix of people here from early evening to close most nights, and it's a prime place for a bizarre conversation with whichever random person who happens to plop down next to you. Even when it's on the quieter side, the atmosphere remains somewhat frenetic: the wild rush of colors from the surreal artwork, the Ms. Pacman games, the jukebox, the fan, the efficient bartenders. Speaking of bartenders, this is how it's done--they are fast and keep the drinks flowing, but they're also capable multi-tasking smart-asses who know how to pour drinks AND chat/flirt/zing at the same time. Also, investigate when you see fresh produce--they make mean mojitos when mint is in and sometimes make fresh-fruit margaritas. Oh, and the drinks are cheap--for those high-rollers with more upscale tastes (heh) than the buck-PBRs, two bucks will get you a can of Tecate or a well cocktail.

  • Lauren M.

I loved this place. It's a great change of pace to the rest of the college/frat bars along 4th. Great beers and great people. Check it out.

    (4)
  • Eric D.

I really do love this bar, The drinks are cheap, the decor is awesome, and the crowd is friendly. PABST is the beer of choice at this bar but they do know how to make some pretty strong fufu drinks for the laidies as well. It gets very cramped around closing time and or if a band is playing.

    (4)
  • Jeremy J.

one of the best places to get a cheap beer with some good company. ice cold cans of pbr are always a buck, and be sure to check out the chex mix they have behind the bar. if you're a douchebag or an asshole please stear clear of this wonderful bar.

    (4)
  • Brian M.

NIce alternative, laid back chill place ... but make sure you wear dark colors or you will stand out.. If you have lots of tatoos and piercings this is the place for you.

    (5)
  • Jon K.

If you like quality, strong, cheap drinks with awesome and fast bartenders, look no further. On weekends it can get a bit crowded, but the smoking patio is usually where we go because there are more tables. There are often bands playing, and if there aren't they have a great jukebox as well as some pinball and other arcade games. The ambiance is slightly divey with hipsters as far as the eye can see which is preferable, at least for me. Overall I find it pretty down to earth, and non-threatening. I've personally never had problems with anyone here, people are usually pretty friendly and the usual bouncer does a great job of keeping the place under control. I've never been to this bar during the day but I imagine it'd be great for day drinking. Even on a crazy night they can cook up some great concoctions so I bet given more time, the bartenders could come up with some tasty experiments. I've never been disappointed with their "trust the bartender" shot or drink. Che's is my go-to bar on 4th. We usually start there, and end the night there when we go out. If you're looking for an affordable, no-bull drinking experience this place is for you. Bonus: Adult snowcones if you're into that.

    (5)
  • R M.

Eh.. all the bartenders are dudes dressed in black, have short/shaved hair, and wear baseball caps. Pretty much ditto for customers. Poor visibility of whatever band you might want to see. Lived in Tucson for 6+ years, been here twice now, don't think I've missed much.

    (2)
  • William S.

Che's Lounge may feature offensive odors, patrons of ill-repute, crowds on the weekends, townies, college students, hipsters, construction workers, gringos and mexicanos. Detractors will call it a dive bar and fans will call it a 4th Ave institution onto itself. If you enjoy bars like this you will probably love Che's, if you prefer not to be within arms-reach of people sporting a full set of tattoos you should find another establishment. They also happen to have the cheapest draft on 4th Ave - $1.50 Miller pints, any time.

    (5)
  • Bianca A.

We have frequented Ches more and more this past year and I have to say it has become one of my favorites on the Ave. Plush (sorry Flycatcher) still has my heart but Che's is right up there. I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are for, we go in, order time-consuming muddled drinks and still get good service! Thanks Che's!

    (5)
  • Gabi M.

I love their watermelon margarita and their new summer cucumber mint margarita! Awesome bands and bartenders. All around good time, my friend.

    (5)
  • Julie M.

People on a budget think this place is great because the drinks are so cheap. If you actually have money this place is a dump. The workers are very rude and it smells like hobos and piss. I don't understand why the bouncers think they are above everyone and snobby as hell. If being a doorman is their greatest accomplishment in life and they hate their jobs I don't see why they have to take it out on everyone else.

    (1)
  • Kdizz S.

OK service, good prices usually. Sometimes has an awkward smell about it which I don't understand, but hey I guess it's a "dive."

This place is a cool spot to go with friends for a cheap drink and to hang out on the back patio, especially when the back bar is serving drinks. However, that does not explain why the door man was so violent and the ownership so unresponsive. So to begin: About a year ago, a friend of mine was visiting form out of town, so naturally I took him to 4th for some drinks. We were at Che's and he was having a bottle of some beer and me a mixed drink. I went outside to make a phone call, and left him at the bar without telling him where I was. He started looking for me and walked outside to see if I was there, absent-mindedly carrying his bottle of beer with him. I turned and saw him walk out and immediately the doorman turned to him and said you need to take that bottle back inside. Before even giving my friend one second to urn around and go back inside, the doorman grabbed him and threw him to the ground very hard, slamming him on his back. He tore the bottle from my friends hand, while keeping all of his weight on my friend's body. He then told my friend he had to wait outside, and told me to go and close his tab. I went inside, demanding our money back, and was refused, and forced to pay for the bottle and my drink, both unfinished, and then told to leave with him. The next day, I called the bar to report the issue. I figured I would talk to the owners, since they would undoubtedly be angry and worried about what happened. Instead, the person who answered the phone gruffly insisted they were the manager, and when I told them what happened they told me to "fuck off and stop calling". I still do not know if the person I talked to was actually a manager or owner, but regardless, they were the most unnecessarily violent, disrespectful, and unprofessional bar staff I have ever encountered.

Hands down, best bar in Tucson. Dare to disagree with me, and I will fight you for Che's honor. The staff has been largely the same cast of characters for as long as I've been a patron -- which is coming up on a decade now. It's very comforting to have such a great group of bartenders not only remember you, but make you feel you belong at your home bar. The prices are freaking awesome. $1 PBR cans, $2.50 Sierra Nevada pints, well drinks are $3.50!!! Daily specials! They also make some of the most tasty seasonal cocktails I've ever had -- fresh watermelon margaritas, muddled mixed berry collins, blueberry kamikazis,... Good stuff all around, and never a light pour. I love the jukebox and more recently, the sticker dispenser, with designs from local artists. Oh yeah there's tons of awesome art everywhere you look -- many of which is made by Donovan, who happens to pour drinks there, too! Weeeee! The new outdoor patio area is spacious and comfy, perfect for a Sunday afternoon Bloody Mary. The inside gets packed on weekend nights, especially if there's live music playing on their tiny "stage" space. There's never a cover. Some of the most memorable (and barely recollected) times in my life have played out at Che's -- I met my partner there for the first time, broke up with an ex, have had countless amazingly silly/crazy/heartfelt moments with my best girlfriends. I wouldn't want those things anywhere else.

Really awesome spot for drinks...especially bloody mary's...the ambience and decor is also awesome with a mix of local stickers that say, "keep Tucson shitty" and Che graphics as well as local artists' paintings...

My first time at this great little bar. Love the ambiance, the bartenders and staff are friendly and make THE BEST watermelon margarita you will ever experience. Can't wait to go back!

My experience wasn't pleasant. I came for the live music and it was out back on the 'smokers patio' so we were the only ones without cigarettes, it stinks. It was a hot summer evening. The inside of the bar was cooled with AC but almost totally empty. It would have been a much better time if the band was inside.

  • Nikky P.

Watermelon Margaritas!!!! They've got them some fresh watermelon and will serve it up any which way you can think of. Perfect for a hot day- take it out the patio. I wish I had more time..I would have ordered like 10 of these things. Think light Jolly Rancher flavors with a dash of Tajin fruit spice on the rim.

I like to go down forth because you can always find a place that is having a good time and Che's is definitely one of those places! This is like a dive bar that is known by everyone. It is very small and sometimes you do have to stand because it is packed with people but they always have great drink specials and the staff is very nice. It is a little collegey and can be very loud but it is always a good time!

Hands down best michelada the atmosphere a lil different but they are very respectful. Very grudge time of dive bar they play 1960 music. Not a bar to watch football their is only one projector but great bar for date night went on a Sunday and Saturday n Saturday gets really packed but enjoyable

  • Amanda B.

This was close to the end of the night. The bartender missed a couple drinks so I wasn't super happy about that. The place was packed... and other than location, just so so. But, good people watching.

  • Nadia A.

Used to think it was one of the best in town & some rad people do tend to be found in here but as my man and i tried to go in for a drink, we were stopped at the door. "So, we have a rule here were we do not allow street musicians in here." OK then.

    (2)
  • Cindy V.

This place is a total joke. Bartenders are super rude. Door guys aren't that much better. They say you get what you pay for. In this instance, it's cheapish drinks and terrible experiences.

    (1)
  • Frank S.

Best bar in Tucson. The bartenders are quick and good. Drinks are strong and cheap. The have local art on the walls, and it's for sale. Huge patio and outdoor bar for smokers. Impossible to have a bad time here.

    (5)
  • Mo C.

Just a fun, funky, neighborhood bar. The art up on the walls is interesting and goes with the really eclectic theme of the bar. There are stickers all over the bar and music is really random. Drinks are really inexpensive. A sign outside advertising $2.50 Sierra Nevada drafts got me in the door.

    (4)
  • Eric G.

OK, it's been a while without an update. What hasn't changed? $2.50 pints of Sierra Nevada. Try finding that anywhere else on this planet! What has changed? Well, there's now a gorgeous patio. Easy to overlook--make like you're heading to the men's room and hang a left. Plenty of square footage and tables out there. This is exactly what this place needed! Being such a small interior, this place adds that necessary room for the crowd to spread out on a Friday night. So so good! Oh, and the best painting in town still hangs here. Baaahhhhhhh!

The bouncers think its ok for gay bashing male customers to harass a female customer over her (presumed) sexual orientation. As if that's not bad enough, guess who the bouncers kicked out? Hint-not the homophobic creep insulting an innocent woman. It's 2015 morons, stop giving AZ a bad rap. Obviously not everyone here is a backwards homophobic redneck, but you're encouraging that stereotype by allowing this kind of behavior to be tolerated in your bar and allowing your bouncers to deal with a situation like this so poorly. Don't let any of your female customers, gay or straight, endure this kind of harassment ever again.

I can't believe I haven't yet written a review of Che's! This is tied for first place as my Favorite Bar in Tucson. Where to start? How about the rad art all over the place, most made by Che's veteran bartender and local artist, Donovan White? How about the stupid cheap prices and generous pours? How about the sweet smoking patio in the back? How about that jukebox, which features a rotating collection of old favorites, indie picks, and local musicians? How about the unbeatable people-watching? This is a bar where everyone knows your name. I wouldn't classify it as a dive bar... it's more of a neighborhood bar. I never wait long for a drink, and it's always served with a side of banter and a smile. This is a bar that appreciates its regulars. If I'm ever having a bad day, I know Che's is the place to come. Or if I'm having a good day. Or just a regular day. Actually, any day. Keep Tucson Shitty, Yelpers!

Having been marooned in the Midwest for the past four years, I am starved for the kind of rocker bars that are the paradoxical blend of friendly and rough around the edges, of cozy and tough. Imagine my content at walking into Che's. From 4pm to 6pm on a Wednesday afternoon, my two colleagues/buddies and I put down some beers and decompressed while surrendering to the comforting silence of being lost in people-watching. The bartender was awesome and recommended my getting a pint of Dragoon: "It's local. It's strong. It's delicious." Indeed it was all those things. She also told me that I shouldn't close out my tab and I acquiesced despite my assurance that I would not get another beer. Half an hour later I found myself bellying up to the bar again. Damn her divination! The patrons' age-range delightfully spans from 21 to 60. Lots of locals and regulars. Lots of rockers, hipsters, hippies, and former skaters. But also just some Arizona characters that don't fit in any of those categories. I love that mixture. Felt right at home - immediately at ease. Love the artwork on the walls. Love the mirrors and christmas lights. The jukebox is a nice touch. Everything felt laid back and welcoming. Looking forward to checking out the nocturnal scene in the summer.

Isn't there an option for a rotten tomato?!?! They don't even deserve one star. I find it hard to believe people actually spend money in this place. Che's is a bar I go to a lot, and I give it five stars! Some people have said it's the best bar in the world, not sure about that, but it's a pretty damn good bar. Once they tried to kick me out, years ago, but I don't think any of the staff remembers. Thanks Che's, I give all my money to you. I wish I was there now instead of watching reality shows on youtube.

Weird and cheap, just like I love it! Lots of mis-matched chairs and odd ball patrons. My cousin got a little addicted to taking pictures of people and how their butts looked in their strange fashion choices - so watch out! Two tasty large shots of tequila will run you $6, for both! Don't remember the price of anything else, but I remember thinking the service was reasonably quick. Have had a couple of strange, but positive experiences here. They have a decent bathroom, a good window view, and a lot of supercool wall art. Excellent spot to kill some time and brain cells!

I've never had a bad time at Che's. Simple bar, kind staff, and of course excellent pricing. It bad been a number of years since I passed through the doors, and I quite enjoy the patio addition. Not landscaped and serene like The Shanty, but extremely comfortable feeling. I think many an hour could be passed there. I went during the week, I know Che's gets crowded on weekends, hopefully there's room on the patio for me.

Best place in the 4th Ave/downtown area for drinks. It's cool that they have art on the walls and live music often. The staff is nice and the owner (or one of them) is a talented artist and funny as hell (ask him to tell you a joke and he will deliver). Definitely my favorite hometown spot.

What am I missing you guys? It's loud. It smells. There's never anywhere to sit, and trying to grab a bartender? Forget about it, I could lead a horse to water AND make it drink in the time it takes two people to get bar service. So is it the nostalgia? The history? The excitement that you may leave there with something more than you bargained for (I always feel like I'm going to break out with a rash if I don't shower after). I've read the reviews and there are some people I really respect who have said some really positive things. Just. Don't. Understand. Know Before You Go: The avenue is chock-full of better IMHO.

This place is all about atmosphere and cheap drinks! Funky and arty, it was the perfect place for us to introduce a recently 21 gal to fourth. I'd be hesitant to go when it's busy, just because it's so crowded even when it's empty. Nice patio too!

There is this bartender here in the afternoon that is really rude I stop by to get a drink and had some spare change in my pocket they girl bartender tells me we don't take change here and I ask If she was series she then took my beer away didn't even give me chance to pay for my drink lame

You either get it or you don't. Che's is a unique place. If frat boy party bars are your thing, you aren't going to like Che's. If you tend toward the artistic, intellectual, creative side but still like to have a good time, you will probably like it here. It's small, it gets crowded. There are bands on Saturdays, and it's loud. The bands are originals, and they're usually pretty damn good or they wouldn't be booked at Che's. If you're looking for an apple-tini or a cover band, go down the street to another bar. If you're looking for cheap PBR and good, real people and original music, Che's is your place. There are lots of regulars, but don't be afraid to go in and grab a beer and make new friends. I moved away from Tucson a few years ago, and this place still lingers fondly in my memory as one of my favorite places to hang out, along with Club Congress, and to a lesser degree, Plush. I played Che's on a number of Saturday nights, or was there watching friends' bands. I miss this place, so go there and have a PBR for me.

My husband and I used to frequent that place because they had 1$ miller high life's. We didn't really like the Che worshiping concept about the place but we thought we would give it a chance. We eventually got tired of all the rude pretentious liberal hippies glaring at us across the bar and the creepy paintings which I guess they think is posh. VERY RUDE chick bartender, she must of thought we weren't cool enough to be there. My husband and I wanted to go in there wearing a che's tee shirt with his face crossed out but that would only be asking for trouble. We decided to go spend an extra 2 dollars more down the street than degrade ourselves further.

This has evolved into my favorite bar in Tucson. It is cheap but what makes it special is that it has an impressive selection of cocktails and garnishes. Usually a hole in the wall bar means you can expect a lemon or a cherry thrown into some rubbing alcohol... but not at Che's. I recommend the Bloody Mary or one of the real fruit Kamikazes- delicious! They have a unique selection of substantial art (mostly painted by a distinguished bartender) on the walls that always changes. It compliments the bevy of furnitures and forgiving lighting. The crowd is diverse in age and style- there are always new friends to meet! They have a buck hunter machine and a great jukebox that really gets the crowd going. The new patio gives extra space but it can still get crowded around the bar. This makes it a great week day bar because when i show up alone I don't feel alone. However, on a friday or saturday night it can be a little cumbersome to get a drink- especially if there is a band playing (usually on saturdays). While I've been occasionally distrubed by some of the other patrons, I've never had a bad experience with the service. Give it it a try if you want to take a break from the dancing at other places with a cold beer. It will become your favorite soon! oh yeah, the john is safe too.

In one word....awesome! What a fun funky and inexpensive watering hole!!! The outside patio renovation has turned this hidden gem into a gold mine!! This is for sure my #1 favorite bar in tucson especially on 4th. The staff is so sweet, always remembers my name, and the drinks are cheap and strong!! Love love love Che's!!! Live music, friendly faces, and a fun atmosphere!!

Now I have had to think hard about this review. I love this place. So I want to do it justice. It is not for everyone, that is for sure. But it is for me. I love the vibe. Casual not pretentious. Great art. Great regulars. A good pour on a cheap drink. I love it! So many great memories have been linked to this place. As for the smell people have complained about...well not everything has to be perfect. That's what makes Che's great, far from perfect but perfect for some.

great vibe! live music rules this roost. my visit was on a Saturday nite, the crowd was in full effect; a super cute drink tender smiled me into a fair priced Sierra Neveda off the tap, and w/ the tunes blasted out by Neon Eon, all systems were go for a night done right. def a must stop on any 4th ave tour. look forward to dropping back in.

My experience here was getting drunk in the afternoon with friends, so I can't say what the night crowd is like. I can tell you I had one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had here. Bartender was friendly, efficient and right on time with our drinks, as some of my friends are demanding. He kept his cool and I noticed he remembered everyones special requests when the next rounds were ordered. Wish I could remember the guy's name, big guy, shaved head. Nice smile, easy going. If you are looking for good strong drinks, no attitude, this is the place. Some funky art on the walls too. And one of the funniest bumper stickers I have seen in awhile was behind the bar. "Arizona, it's a Dry Hate" Gotta love that.

I love Che's. I have only been here once, but the one time I went I had a blast. The bar staff was nice and quick ( although I recently heard they've been moving slow) and t hey all seemed to enjoy chatting with the guest. I was drunk and making out with a friend and no one bothered us which is cool. The beer seemed pretty cheap too, I think I ordered a Corona. Good times. Cool staff. Will return to slut it up here.

This may be the first place I have been and encountered fully bearded, skinny jeans wearing football watching hipsters! Cocktails were cheap and tasty and nobody got too angry when my fourth drink managed to slip through my fingers and make a mess. The bouncers were super friendly and the bathrooms felt like going back to second grade with short multi colored stalls, all in all a good time was had by Justiney so Meany and myself. We will be back the next time the family drags us to to the desert.

The thing I dislike about Che's the most is not the bar itself, but the people that go there. The place is small, and it gets packed quick on the weekends with an eclectic mix of hipsters, smelly locals, and college kids who fill up on $1.50 PBRs before staggering off to another bar. That said, my favorite time to visit Che's is during the day or during the off-season. The bartenders are all great and they pour well. For your early-afternoon hangover relief, they mix one of the best bloody marys in town that is both non-pretentious and only five dollars!

There is this bartender here in the afternoon that is really rude I stop by to get a drink and had some spare change in my pocket they girl bartender tells me we don't take change here and I ask If she was series she then took my beer away didn't even give me chance to pay for my drink lame

This place is all about atmosphere and cheap drinks! Funky and arty, it was the perfect place for us to introduce a recently 21 gal to fourth. I'd be hesitant to go when it's busy, just because it's so crowded even when it's empty. Nice patio too!

Super small venue but its a good dive bar with cheap beer, live music (usually), and computer games. They accept all major credit cards.

Was stood up for a date (after biking my head off to get downtown!) and found refuge here drinking my feelings. The gin & tonics were strong and the folks friendly. Will most certainly be back and under much neater circumstances!

great vibe! live music rules this roost. my visit was on a Saturday nite, the crowd was in full effect; a super cute drink tender smiled me into a fair priced Sierra Neveda off the tap, and w/ the tunes blasted out by Neon Eon, all systems were go for a night done right. def a must stop on any 4th ave tour. look forward to dropping back in.

Great artwork, good liquor selection fabulous jukebox, and some of the best bartenders in town. $1 PBR and High Life, $2.50 well drinks, and always a good pour.

One of the less pretentious places on 4th Ave. Laid back atmosphere, diverse croud, cheap drinks and good live music. I'd be a regular if it wasnt on the other side of town. I will definitely come back to Che's

    (3)

    (4)

  • Lala M.

Probably my favorite bar of all time. I just love this place. CHEAP strong drinks, $1 PBRs every time I walk in the door. The crazy art all over the place is a nice touch too, & of course I can't forget to mention the arcade games. Free Streetfighter :D

Not that this place is bad, it just isn't for me, and some places aren't for everyone. I had a round with friends, and we had a tough time getting to the bar tender from... well, everywhere. Seating and bar-space was taken, leaving us standing in the walkways.. pretty annoying.

Nice art, too.

dollar drafts of the Champaign of Beers is like christmas morning when you were six and christmas still mattered (it kind of shaped your life, really) and you run into the family room and everyone is there and you're screaming because the Big Wheel is sitting there with a bow on it and you can't believe how happy you are and life is good. pints of High Life for a buck is just like that, and Che's is just like your family room because all the same people are on the same bar stools every day just like christmas morning and life is good. getting a drink sometimes (from some of the staff) is a bit like extracting teeth: it'll make you sweat and it kinda hurts & you swear you're never coming back to this dentist but six months later you're in his chair smelling his breath, which smells of beer. which is probably High Life, which he was drinking for a dollar at Che's Lounge.

Still the most efficient bartenders on fourth (never seems to be much of a wait, and the drinks could not be stronger), with good music and a chill layout. It would be five stars, but since the crowd has become so hipster over the past few years I've got to take it down a star for the poor atmosphere.

yes, i'm a fan. but then again, i very rarely show up here past 6 p.m. right after work, i can always find a spot at the bar. i'm usually a beer drinker, but with my tastes, i'm hard to please here. so i get mixed drinks instead. it doesn't matter who pours the drink, it is universal that the bartenders don't have any respect for my liver (and that's a good thing). the bar does tend to be on the divey side, but i like it. i've been here for live music before, and then i'd have to agree with those who say it's loud with no place to sit and good luck getting a drink at the bar. for my happy hour activities, this place is just swell.

Chill spot. Dug the art, music, service and big windows looking onto 4th ave. Nice mixed crowd with plenty of chatter.

This was my local watering hole when I was at the U. Doormen were always really cool. Cheap, strong drinks. Even came here to do my power hour...it was an experience. I'll never forget Che's. I'll stop in for a few 50 cent PBR cans soon. Oh how i miss this place...

i don't like hippies but i do like super nice bartenders and cheap drinks. also, they have one of those arcade games that has about 50 games on there so that's a win. loss of one star due to their average clientelle who has an attitude to go along with their messenger bag.

The only reason I go to Che's is because all my friends & everyone else in Tucson always end up there! It's an okay average bar, I just hate how loud it gets in there when a band is playing.

I loved this place. It's a great change of pace to the rest of the college/frat bars along 4th. Great beers and great people. Check it out.

I really do love this bar, The drinks are cheap, the decor is awesome, and the crowd is friendly. PABST is the beer of choice at this bar but they do know how to make some pretty strong fufu drinks for the laidies as well. It gets very cramped around closing time and or if a band is playing.

one of the best places to get a cheap beer with some good company. ice cold cans of pbr are always a buck, and be sure to check out the chex mix they have behind the bar. if you're a douchebag or an asshole please stear clear of this wonderful bar.

NIce alternative, laid back chill place ... but make sure you wear dark colors or you will stand out.. If you have lots of tatoos and piercings this is the place for you.

My experience wasn't pleasant. I came for the live music and it was out back on the 'smokers patio' so we were the only ones without cigarettes, it stinks. It was a hot summer evening. The inside of the bar was cooled with AC but almost totally empty. It would have been a much better time if the band was inside.

This was close to the end of the night. The bartender missed a couple drinks so I wasn't super happy about that. The place was packed... and other than location, just so so. But, good people watching.

Used to think it was one of the best in town & some rad people do tend to be found in here but as my man and i tried to go in for a drink, we were stopped at the door. "So, we have a rule here were we do not allow street musicians in here." OK then.

This place is a total joke. Bartenders are super rude. Door guys aren't that much better. They say you get what you pay for. In this instance, it's cheapish drinks and terrible experiences.

Best bar in Tucson. The bartenders are quick and good. Drinks are strong and cheap. The have local art on the walls, and it's for sale. Huge patio and outdoor bar for smokers. Impossible to have a bad time here.

Eh.. all the bartenders are dudes dressed in black, have short/shaved hair, and wear baseball caps. Pretty much ditto for customers. Poor visibility of whatever band you might want to see. Lived in Tucson for 6+ years, been here twice now, don't think I've missed much.

I love their watermelon margarita and their new summer cucumber mint margarita! Awesome bands and bartenders. All around good time, my friend.
