Went here cause it's the only place by walking distance from work aside from the Del Taco...I'm new to Tucson and this place is def worth going to. It's an old school diner yet it is one of the few that accepts bitcoin! As for the food it's above average and their tots are really good, however the wait is quite long. The sandwiches are really good portions too. Def worth trying out if you're near the area

I came here not too long again for breakfast on a Sunday. The wait was about 20min before we were seated (4 of us). After sitting down and deciding what we wanted we ordered and everything went well. It took at least 30 minutes until our food was ready. The plus is that the portions are MASSIVE! I couldn't even eat half of the burrito. I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. But it seems like everyone's leftovers went to waste. The restaurant scene isn't anything special but I would not come here if you wanted to get a quick bite. It was a solid 1 1/2 hour trip.

I used to come to chaffins all the time for breakfast when I was a student at the university. while recently back for my sisters graduation my family and I went to chaffins for a good Sunday morning breakfast. It's a diner, you get typical diner food, but man it's good! Nothing like a good greasy breakfast to start off a Sunday. Also, some of the best pancakes I've ever had. The service is good, nothing great, but our water was always full and coffee was always hot. Good place to go when you need a good quick meal, nothing fancy.

Food is so good!! Huge portions for a great price! I got the Texas burrito, and it had to be 5 pounds! It was the size of my head! My friend got the veggie omelette and that was also great! I'm sad I'm not from Tucson because if I were this would be at least a weekly place for me!

My family and I are always exploring local breakfast/lunch places around town, especially Sunday mornings. Chaffins was a great pick! We were all very content with our hardy meals. Good portions, you can tell the food is fresh and homemade, all content with the service and our server was so sweet! Only thing I would say needs improvement is the coffee, besides that tasty meal!

Dirty, worn, neglected and run into the ground... and I'm not talking just about the pot-holed parking lot either. This place does not look like it had an update since it was a Sambo's some time last century. Grey, worn and weary the customer come for the grub, and it too is probably served much the same as it probably always has been. Not bad food, but Tucson, we can do better. I'll bet the owner's don't eat here.

Chaffin's is a little worn around the edges but they have a great menu of diner classics and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. On a weekday morning I loved that several tables were full of people having meetings or "working breakfasts"...now I want to have a meeting at a diner! The front dining room and lunch counter is bright and open which makes up for the minor dinginess of the decor. Unfortunately we were seated in the back overflow dining room which has fewer windows, a faint weird smell, and is just not quite as charming. Still, service was friendly, food came out quick and hot, and satisfied my cheap breakfast, greasy-spoon needs. The half-order El Hazar with house-made chorizo was still a huge, delicious portion. They do their home fries just the way I like: sliced potatoes fried on the griddle, fluffy and crumbly but crunchy on the outside. Boyfriend got the veggie omelet, the only downside of which was that it was covered in weird processed "swiss cheese", you know, the white kind of American cheese. Don't go in expecting farm-to-table and you'll be fine.

My brother and I came here a couple days ago. I got the challah French Toast and my brother got the cinnamon roll French Toast. We also each ordered a side of potatoes which we asked for extra crispy. Our meal was amazing! The waitress we sat with was great too, we never had an empty glass. I brought some of it home for left over, and it was even better. Cant wait to come back here!

It was a beautiful rainy morning in Tucson, and I decided what the hell I'm going to give this place a shot. Its an old fashioned looking diner with the pitched roof. Inside they had LP's on one wall, huge pictures of craters on the moon, or mars, or whatever, on another. Overall the place looks super dated. The service started off quickly, finding a seat, getting a menu, and getting some coffee..... Then it starts to become the lamest place. I never got a water with my coffee. They didn't have any regular good 'ol fashioned sugar, and when the creamer came it was a strange non-dairy cream that was pretty nasty. I asked if they had regular cream and luckily she had half-n-half. Why are they serving non-dairy creamer if it wasn't asked for? I got my plate, and the food looked pretty dang good. They had a nice assortment of hot sauce. They even had Poblano... "Awesome!". I ended up ordering a special they had that was biscuits and gravy, and a ham, spinach, and swiss omelette with hash browns/countryfries. It was cooked well, seemed to be a decent run of the mill breakfast. I couldn't get a refill on coffee to save my life, and still no water. SO I actually had to leave sooner than I thought because not only was I getting irritated with the service but I was really parched! This gets better. So the place has this huge painted up "Welcome back Wildcats" on the entire side of the building, but do you think they offer wildcats a discount... NOPE! I thought I would ask just to see how it played out, and considering my simple breakfast cost over $12.00!!! They waitress said she didn't think they offered a discount but the owners right there if I want to ask him. So I said sure and she calls him out of the kitchen to come over and have me ask him. So I did, he looked at me stunned and said no, but proclaimed how last week 750 students came through, and that it "may" be something to think about and then walks off. So moral of the story here is! 1.) Overpriced 2.) Service SUCKS 3.) It's so dated.... and dusty feeling. If your looking for breakfast thats good, quick, and affordable.... DONT COME HERE! NOTE: If your the owner and you actually take the time to read these, You're place has so much potential, spend some of that money that you rob from your customers and update the joint, hire some capable staff, hold them to some sort of expectation. The foods good, but the overall ambience and environment suck.

Came here with a fairly large group for some coffee and light breakfast snacks. It was certainly nice that they were able to accommodate our group of nine on short notice. Unfortunately the experience turns completely average at this point. Service while friendly was not close to exceptional. Quite frankly it was a bit slow. I shared a plate of French toast with another in our party. While it came highly recommended and it smelled incredible the actual flavor was only okay. Others at the table ordered different types of fruit plates, those looked pretty good.

The service was excellent, ask for Leah! Food was great. I had a tuna melt, off the menu but they accommodated and the fries were delicious. I can't believe I was born and raised in Tucson and I had never been here. Great diner, comfort food!

I first heard of Chaffin's when reading about Tucson's modernism week. This building is an example of modernism and is located close to the U of A campus. Not surprised to see two big strong Wildcat footballers enter the restaurant for breakfast. Our server said lots of the players eat here and she tries to "take good care of the boys." Another cool reason to come here. We ordered breakfast and I have to say my 3 cheese omelet with muffin and hash browns was incredibly tasty. I would sure order this one again. My partner had a breakfast burrito and enjoyed it very much. They offer lots of breakfast specials early in the morning at great prices. The menu is typical American style with lots of choices. The prices are fair and the service is friendly and fast. I hope to return soon and try something on their lunch menu. I see it as a sweet part of vanishing Americana dining. For me, Chaffin's is a keeper.

Eggs royale, two fluffy poachers atop a split, toasted muffin, two generous slices of salmon and topped with hollandaise are a delectable retro breakfast treat here at Chaffin's, the king of the semi-downtown rockabilly restaurant scene (it does exist here). The menu reads like a castaway's wish list upon rescue. The Monte Cristo is decent, all omelettes are oversized and stuffed to bursting, and the extensive sandwich list is anchored by a substantial reuben. The service here is always attentive, even when they are literally overrun on weekend mornings with hung over hipsters and church families.

I am crushing HARD on this place. My bf and I have gotten in the habit of going out for weekend breakfast/brunch and this is in the list of contenders for my fave breakfast place in Tucson. First of all, the menu is huuuge. That usually is a red flag for me, I prefer when places stick to a subset of items that they do really well. But in Chaffin's case, it seems that everything they do is great. There's a whole section on Eggs Benedict, made in a multitude of ways. My favorite: the Irish Eggs Benedict, complete with biscuits and gravy in lieu of English muffin and Hollandaise sauce. Beef hash substitutes the Canadian bacon. Very indulgent but the Chaffin's biscuits and gravy are oh so good. Their burritos are insanely huge and smothered in gravy. A Mexican burrito with potatoes, chorizo, and bacon doesn't sound like it would go well with gravy. But it does. Their waffles are perfectly crispy; Chaffin's waffles are pretty much my favorite waffles now. Chaffin's is a very simple, humble type diner. Another Yelper said that this place looks like a typical diner you'd see in a movie; I couldn't have described Chaffins better myself. Comfortable booths alongside a row of windows and a long bar with a great view of the bustling kitchen action. I love seeing the mix of people that Chaffin's attracts. It's a great place that attracts absolutely everybody. Not many places can claim to do that.

I was so excited to share Chaffin's with my brother and his fiancé. It's a local/hipster/family type place, so I figured it would be great for them as well as my 3 year old and baby. We came in at a little after 11 on Sunday. It looked like most of the breakfast crowd had just cleared out, and it was still a little early for lunch. While there were plenty of open spots, we had to wait for a table to be cleared off. Our waitress (I think her name was Britt) came over to take our drink orders. I thought it was strange that when she came to drop off our drinks she didn't take our meal order. After waiting for some time, I waved her down and asked if we could order now. Simple stuff, pancakes and eggs. After 15 minutes we were watching our clocks. After 20 minutes, my 3 year old was ready to climb the walls. At 25 min I flag down the waitress. She gets a flash of panic on her face--uh oh, she knows something isn't right. She hurries off to talk to the kitchen. I can see her pointing at our table, and looking around for our order ticket. I'm guessing it got lost. She comes back over after making a long, slow round to the other tables to let us know a table of 14's order got put in right before ours. Ah, ok... Well, that's not quite an apology. It's not my fault a large order went in. And you should have been proactive to come to us and say "I'm so sorry our kitchen is delayed, but I've already talked to my manager and gotten your drinks taken off. Is there something I can get for the little guy to snack on or play with while you wait?" Instead, I felt like they were upset with me for even asking why the meal was late. At 40 min my pancakes came out, burnt on one side. Five min later, my sons meal. 5 min after that, one omelette. 5 min after that, the other one. It was seriously the strangest dining experience. The meal was hot or cold, burnt or undercooked. I didn't even bother to complain. I asked for our check, frankly expecting at that point to have our meals taken care of and just paying for drinks or something. When she dropped it off, it was with zero apology that we had to wait almost an hour for our food. Oh yeah, it was full price too. I asked to speak to manager, who was Maya. I said I was unhappy I even had to ask, but there should be some consideration to our bill given how long we had to wait and the fact the food was terrible. She curtly explained again a table of 14 was sat before us. Again, I sympathize, but it's not our problem. Don't seat groups that size if you're not able to accommodate them and others who are waiting. She takes the bill, and minutes later the waitress comes back... And our drinks are removed. A coffee and an Orange juice. Needless to say, I won't return here again. It makes me sad because I know historically this has been a loved local business. I sincerely hope the owner reads this and knows it's time to make some big changes.

I hadn't been here in a few years, and the food was probably OK. The major memory I had were the original Sambo's pictures over the kitchen. I don't remember seeing the pictures this time around, but what I DO remember is my Texas Burrito. I understand now why the restaurant was 70% college kids and 5 or 6 policemen. $9.99 got me a behemoth of a burrito. Simple recipe (I think): Chicken-fried steak, potatoes, eggs stuffed into a very large flour tortilla until it weighs 7.2 pounds ( I'm guessing), covered with gravy with a strip of bacon on top. I fought the good fight, lost, and still have 1/3 of it 3 days later. I don't mind. At all.

I went to Chaffin's for the first time today, after years of hearing people rave about how it's the go-to diner/breakfast joint. And.... meh. I love greasy spoon diners; I'm not expecting this place to serve locally sourced farm-to-table brunch or to have a craft cocktail menu. But I guess I wouldn't expect a breakfast on a Friday morning at 9 a.m. to take an hour to arrive.... lukewarm, and honestly not that tasty (I had the veggie omelette.) An hour? I don't get it. The service was friendly, and the servers kept coming by and refilling our coffees, so maybe the wait time is a back-of-house issue. This place gets props for having a good selection of hot sauces, from both red & green Poblanos, red & green Tabascos, sriracha, and Cholula. They sure would've been good on some hash browns! But I had the cottage cheese, instead of hash browns, because the waitress told me they were out of hash browns. And then, when the food arrived, I saw literally everyone else in our party get HASH BROWNS. I was feelin' pretty pouty then, with my sad little cottage cheese. I like to support local businesses, but in this case, I'd probably rather just go to Denny's.

Your good old classic 1950's style diner. Relaxed, laid-back, friendly and great food at great prices. Very wide and diverse diner menu- it's impossible not to find something to eat here. Your choice of counter top service and booths. Crispy bacon and eggs cooked to perfection! Great local diner. I highly recommend it, especially for breakfast on a weekend morning.

  • Fernando R.

I eat here several times a month, and my advice is to avoid weekends if you're in a hurry or expect stellar service. Service can be fairly fast at times, and at some points unexplainably slow. Overall the food is pretty consistent and a nice place to have a good sized meal. That gigantic cinnamon bun is something to look at, but not worth the calories. The place could be a bit cleaner, but the outdated look works. I say try it without higher than moderate expectations. With that said, I'm a repeat customer.

Oh Chaffins you never fail to make me happy! I love the eggs Benedict more than anything and in the last 2 months have had some AWFUL stuff in other restaurants and had to come back just to remember why I love it.

Located in an iconic building that once was a Sambo's (which changed its name after scrutiny of the origins of the name) still hold some of the mid-century appeal. It would be amazing to bring it back to its throwback charm. The food was typical diner comfort food, nothing fancy. The fires were frozen but pretty crisp and palitable. This is a good answer for that problem of where the hell do I go to get some basic grub in the odd hour

Awesome food. Awesome staff. Awesome coffee. No complaints at all! Had the steak and eggs with corned beef hash. Hash was fresh and home made. Steak was cooked perfectly and the coffee was very good. Looking forward to coming back.

I may or may not have a serious problem with going out to breakfast, so naturally I had to come check out this Tucson favorite. I like to try out the breakfast menu at many different cafes and restaurants, and I was definitely happy with the food at Chaffin's! This place looks like the diner you see in movies. I loved it! The staff was very friendly and the service was fast. One of the best things about this place is that the menu doesn't just have your typical, boring breakfast dishes. I tried the cinnamon roll french toast with the home fries- DELICIOUS. I definitely recommend taking a stop through this diner for some good eats and a great atmosphere!

    (4)
  • Rebecca F.

Our breakfast was very good and so was the service. The only problem was that the kitchen sent our food out a few plates at a time. That's not good when all you have is eggs and your corned beef isn't ready. We didn't wait very long but had to ding them for this. All the food the servers walked by with looked delicious. We will definately go back and hope we get all our food at once!

We are regulars at Chaffin's. By that I mean that we are there at least three times a week, so we know a great deal about the place. The management did change. Mr. Chaffin is now retired, and his son, Alex, owns the business. Alex is making great changes to the place for the better! He has started having the seats recovered to update the decor, and he is very aware of customers. If you EVER have even the slightest issue with a waitress or the food, then he will fix it for you! He loves to hear feedback from the customers as well, and they are always trying new things. But the menu is still good. They have great blue-plate specials and daily specials as well. Their breakfast is the best in Tucson, and we have been to all of the breakfast places. Obviously, we like the food and the service. So, I have a few suggestions about how to get the best experience. 1. Accept that it is a diner. It is an old-school diner that still has records on the walls and some kind of strange wooden elf statue overseeing the desert display up by the cash register. It is not fully a greasy spoon. In fact, we routinely order the salads because the ingredients are fresh, and they kitchen staff is wiling to make them just the way we light them. You can get great diner fair though, like fried eggs, hamburgers, tater tots, chili, etc. I'm just saying that there is a variety of options for different tastes. 2. If you go for breakfast on a weekend between 9:00-12:00, then expect to wait on your food. They make the meals one at a time, and while they work very hard to please, they will be totally and utterly packed. Usually, the back room has a huge party of college students (25 or so) who have all come in for breakfast. Things can also get pretty loud on the weekends. It is all worth the wait though! 3. They close at 2:00, so if you are going for lunch, be sure you get there in time. They won't slam the door in your face or anything, but it's something to keep in mind. This is such a great Tucson staple. You have to check it out!

I had written my review from 2008 and forgot to publish it (so this is a few years old) Joe and I tried a new place called Chaffin's Diner. This looked like a nice family-type breakfast place so we were excited to try it. We were promptly seated and I was really excited when I was looking over the menu. So many choices looked good. It took me forever, but I finally narrowed it down to two. I decided on the Maria's Melt. It was a breakfast sandwich on grilled sourdough with scrambled eggs, swiss cheese, tomato and avocado. Yum. I also ordered their cinnamon roll. There was an add on the door when we walked in and it sounded so good. The waitress came back to tell me they were out of avocado. Bummer. But not a big deal by itself. I changed my decision to the Meltdown which was another breakfast sandwich on grilled sourdough with ham, swiss and scrambled eggs. Who cares right - almost the same sandwich. I'm still getting that super yummy cinnamon roll. Joe ordered the Truckers Delight which was this huge breakfast that came with bacon cakes (bacon filled pancakes) he was pretty excited. Well it was a while before they came with our food, but I was with Joe so I didn't mind. But they tried to deliver our food to the table next to us. Good thing Joe was listening, or else we wouldn't have gotten anything. We were missing my cinnamon roll, Joe's tortilla and his bacon cakes. I tried getting our waitresses attention and she snapped back with it's coming like she couldn't carry it all at once. Which would be understandable - who could carry that many plates at once? I tried waiting for my cinnamon roll, but I was super hungry so I picked up my sandwich and started eating. It was soggy on one side. Gross. I was so hungry from not eating anything yet (it was already noon) I just ate it anyway. It would have been a good sandwich if it wasn't soggy though. The hash browns that came with it were not good enough for me to eat - I wasn't hungry enough to eat what tasted like raw potatoes. I finished my sandwich and the rest of our food STILL hadn't come yet. They delivered Joe's bacon cakes to the table next to us and even though those people didn't order them, they ate them anyway. They finally brought my cinnamon roll about 5-10 minutes after I was done my sandwich. They brought Joe's stuff too. Except no bacon cakes, he just was presented with regular pancakes. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress - she pretty much said - it's almost the same thing. Seemed like she was too bothered to take them back and get what he ordered. Joe's too nice so he said that would be fine (even though he didn't end up eating most of them). Most disappointing was that the yummy cinnamon roll that I ordered that finally arrived tasted like they forgot to put sugar in the dough. Very bland. I ended up asking for a box for it and giving it to Joe's mom. Service was so bad that a group who had been seated and waiting for someone to take their order for about 20 minutes had to send someone up to get a waitress just to order. This was while we were leaving so I didn't get to see all of their potential mix-ups too. If this restaurant was busy I could understand these many mistakes, but over 1/2 the seats in the place were empty so I have no idea why the service was the way it was. Overall, the bill came to $21.25 and I did not leave a tip (for obvious reasons). I would give this place a 1/2 a star, and I think I'm being generous with that. I would not go back. -------------------------------------- I just had to share this with everyone... I emailed the Chaffin's Diner website my complaint with a link to this blog and received this completely ridiculous reply: Date: Tue, 24 Jun 2008 16:11:32 -0700 From: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX To: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Subject: Re: Feedback Form Hello, Thanks for the feedback, even negative. I read your blog and your complaint is valid. I apologize for your terrible experience. To ensure that this does not happen again I will take the following steps: I will fire the cook tomorrow that was responsible for making your sandwich. The server will be fired as well. Thank you for your concern. Alex Chaffin

We hadn't been back to Chaffin's for years and after this weekend this place has quickly become a new go-to spot. The last time we ate here the service was slow and bad but now that is not the case, all the girls were friendly and quick to help get you seated or help out in any way. The food has been great! So far the french toast was the best but the eggs, hash browns, sausage and waffles are all also tasty. We're looking forward to trying lunch next. Finally we loved the decor - that part hasn't changed - but it's comfortable and casual. We will definitely be here especially on Sundays when Robert's is closed :)

To preface: I had not been to Chaffin's in some 3 years, and was reluctant to return due to some negative reviews regarding a change in management. Convenience and curiosity won out and my fears about this unassuming neighborhood joint proved unfounded. The wife and I showed up around 1PM on a Sunday, and the parking lot was half empty, score. We were seated immediately and greeted by a revamped and much more accessible menu than the previous multi-page handwritten weirdness. All your favorites are there, with a variety of benedicts and burritos, as well as some novel combinations (bacons banana pancakes?) and regional delicacies like Loco Moco. The wife had her heart set on a vegetarian Benedict, but since we showed up so late on a busy sunday, they were long out of Hollandaise. We were on our way out the door when the chef himself stopped us and offered to make a new batch up fresh since the rush had died down. The California Benedict was really good with fresh ingredients and yummy hollandaise, and exactly what she needed. I opted for the country-friend steak burro as it combined all my favorite breakfast foods, and was shocked to see a wrap roughly the size of my head (and well larger than my stomach) arrive. Hash browns, egg, cheese, bacon and breaded cube steak, wrapped in a fresh tortilla and smothered in country gravy and garnished with yet another portion of chicken fried steak, this burrito is not for the faint of heart. It was delicious and everything I could ever want in a breakfast entree. BRAVO! The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and made a fresh pot of decaf for the wife. The kitchen was lightning-fast despite the burden of making fresh Hollandaise. The ambiance is low-key with an open kitchen, vintage album covers on the wall and a back room for private rendez vous. Just over 20 dollars for two entrees, two coffees, juice and plenty of leftover burro is a great deal and the location is so convenient, right off Broadway. The only caveat is that my vegetarian wife described the hash browns as tasting "a little meaty." All in all a great meal at a great diner for a great price. 5 stars up!

Lemony hollandaise on the California Eggs Benedict was best I've ever had. I subbed a home-made biscuit (toasted outside, fluffy middle) for the english muffin. The egg was done exactly how I ordered it. Iced tea tasted fresh - not too strong/bitter like some places. Breakfast potatoes are a mound of thin layers, fried well. Upbeat servers and friendly atmosphere. Eclectic decor that Tucson is known for - 60's diner architecture with album covers on display. This place is old, but clean. Some yelpers are bothered that the building is run-down, but what does a full parking-lot tell you?

This was an okay choice for a place to grab a cup of coffee with some family during a visit to Tucson... The staff was really friendly and it definitely embodied the concept of a 'family restaurant!' All I ordered was tea, so I can't comment on the food but the tea was a bit of a strange experience. They brought over a cup of hot water, which isn't super effective for steeping tea (you're supposed to pour the water over the tea) and my mom had to ask special for a kettle of more hot water so we could have more than just one cup. It was just very strange. On the positive side, the people who did order food enjoyed theirs-- the fruit plate was big and the french toast was tasty. Just be prepared for a weird experience if you order tea!

Just great home style/diner food. Really diverse menu but the food is fresh and always excellently prepared. The portions are very large but most people still manage to clean their plate. Breakfast is served as long as they are open and is great and lunch is always quick and reliable. The weekend brunch crowd may need to wait for a table, but it is worth it.

Visiting again. It's still a diner. Open for breakfast and lunch. The food comes fast, large portions, very tasty. There's really not a lot more to say. Hearty American food, plus some Hawaiian (loco moco!), good service, reasonable prices. I can see why the parking lot is always full. One downer was the monster cinnamon roll. It's huge, and not very expensive. But they don't put enough cinnamon. The sour-cream icing was really good, but the actual roll barely has any cinnamon flavor at all. Which is unfortunate, because it could have been great. Skip the roll, but have one of their breakfasts.

After returning to Chaffin's, I have seen the light. And it is pancakes. The most delicious pancakes my tastebuds have ever touched. No, really. I have tried a bunch of things from their menu (that I or my friends ordered) and their pancakes are still the best thing there. That's my only reason to return. And trust me, its enough of a good reason. Why? Well, they made me CHOCOLATE CHIP BACON PANCAKES. Yeah, you read that right. Thick crispy bacon and melty gooey chocolate chips, all living together inside a giant fluffy pancake. They didn't skimp out on the filling, on the amount of bacon, or chocolate, or toppings (more bacon and chocolate, duh). The bacon was salty, the chocolate was sweet and when you added the syrup it all mixed well for one giant piece of indulgence in your mouth. If that wasn't enough of a meal (their single pancakes are the size of my butt), I also ordered one blueberry pancake. It was as glorious as I remembered. The blueberries were bursting with juice, the fruit tasted fresh and the pancake was absolutely loaded with them. From now on, every time I come to Chaffin's I will stick to my choco-bacon pancake and blueberry pancake. Maybe I'll get a coffee, but I can't come here and not order this. Needless to say, I can't physically eat more than this (WITH help from my friends), so I'll have to continue to nibble on my friend's foods to slowly discover their whole menu. A good breakfast/Lunch spot with plenty of seating and parking. The daily special is always reasonably price and filling. Personally, I love the waffle combo with all the fixins. The owner is pleasant and can often be found on the grille cooking. The wait staff led by Mercedes is courteous, professional, and attentive. The bathrooms are small and the temperature in the restaurant is always a tad on the hot side. A family of 4 can easily eat for less than $50 dollars. So if you like comfort food and classic rock this is the place to try.

Have you ever had the feeling that cockroaches are crawling all over you? Good, remember that feeling and stay away from here because it is infested. In the kitchen, all over the sitting tables, pick a spot. I didn't give it 1 star simply because the prices are cheap

It is what it is. Don't go during breakfast hours on a weekend when the joint is packed and think you'll be treated like the princess you think you are. I ate here a few times a week for almost a year. It's basically stuff you could make at home but for a bachelor it was great.

I love eggs Benedict and chafins has 6 different versions. I tried the crab cake version and it was delicious. Was really surprised by their menu selection. It's pretty big. Saw a few college girls come in so you can't complain about that hahaha!

This was our first time here and we loved it! I had the traditional eggs benedict and it was great. The hollandaise was good and lemony, which is hard to find outside of my dad's cooking. My husband liked his California benedict which had tomato and avocado in addition. We also shared a half order of pancakes which were also really good. The benedicts came with a side of potatoes which were good but nothing too exciting compared to the rest. We got so full off what we could finish of all of this that we hardly ate anything else the rest of the day. The only thing that could have been better was the atmosphere. We were seated in the back room, which is maybe an addition? It just wasn't great and if it weren't for this I would easily give this place 5 stars.

The Dollar menu here is fantastic! (M-F 6a-8a) Egg, Home Fries, Hashbrowns, Bacon, Sausage, Ham, Toast. Each item is $1. The Hashbrowns and Home Fries are delicious. I really like this place.

A friend recommend I try this place. I love dinner's and the at home service you normally get from them. I walked in to the smell of delicious breakfast foods like bacon and pancakes. I like the breakfast bar and how it overlooks into the kitchen. I sat at a booth in the back near a window. The booth was clean and comfortable. My friend and I were greeted promptly by a polite server, an older lady with a nice smile told us the special, and allowed us to make annoying changes. The food pieced meal out, but was hot and delicious none the less. Will be back again.

Awesome diner! I sat right up at the bar with a couple of my friends. It was so cool watching the cooks make all the orders, I could never move as fast as they were moving!! So props to them:) I had the blueberry pancakes and they were delicious. It seems like they can really put whatever you want into your pancakes so that's nice. I can't wait to return and try the other menu items and more pancakes!!!

Great old school diner atmosphere. I orders the california eggs Benedict . Very good and generous portions . I could only eat half of it . Not as impressed with the potatoes served on the side, kinda bland. Overall I was satisfied and would return again . Love all the old albums on the wall. Very cool

I've been putting off writing a well deserved review for Chaffin's for awhile now because I'm lazy, and shit, Its not like I get anything for it. Then today, I ordered a cali eggs benedict with ham and mid way through I had this euphoric feeling of such satisfaction that I uncontrollably blurted out I effing love this place; it was like the love you feel when you look at your new born baby. Seriously. All I wanted to do was rub that beautiful bald head of the cook that made it. Anyways, I started coming here when I moved downtown and saw all the good reviews on here. I immediately became a regular. The food is unpretentious, yet delicious and craftily made. Plus, its just one of those places where you totally feel comfortable going hung over as hell with your friends or with your laptop to get coffee and do work; its perfect. Before this gets too long, a few tips: 1. The burgers are amazing and just as good as Zinburgers with out breaking the bank. 2. Get the cali eggs bene, then add ham, then find the bald guy and rub his head. 3. Don't check your self out in the tinted windows outside, there's usually someone on the other side looking at you. You're Welcome.

We stopped here before the Living History event at Presidio de San Augustín del Tucson. Right away we were greeted by the owner and invited to seat ourselves. There was no wait, very attractive with a family of starving folk. The waitress greeted us immediately and we had our drinks within minutes. The order came next: +Cinnamon Roll French Toast topped with strawberries and whipped cream. +Chicken Fried Steak with hash browns and sourdough toast +The House Omelet- eggs, ham, home fries all smothered in Country Gravy with an English Muffin & Hash Browns. My only beef was that the strawberry topping was not fresh fruit, but pie filling instead. Otherwise, the Cinnamon Roll French Toast was incredible. I ate one half and thought, "This is stupendous", but then I realized I had just finished the BOTTOM of the roll. The top still to go, it had frosting and strawberries and whipped cream, too. I'm glad I told the waitress no powdered sugar! No syrup needed, either. I tasted the House Omelet and it was savory. Filling to say the least. Their bacon is not the best I've had (we ordered a side), but it wasn't awful, either. Next time I go I'm going to try one of their Benedicts or perhaps the Lox omelet? Who knows?

Don't waste your time. Terrible service. After not getting our breakfast for more than 20 minutes, we asked if our food would be out soon and the server replied, "Probably not". Ordered the Huevos Rancheros. Canned ranchero sauce and canned refried beans. At least at other diners, even if the food's not tip-top, the service is usually friendly and fast. I was embarrassed I suggested this place.

Pretty decent breakfast cafe. MASSIVE serving sizes -- too big actually. I had the corned beef hash (on special that day) and it was a HUGE plate, but to be honest it seems that most of the mass was really just potatoes.

You have to try this joint! Old fashioned, old school and down home cooking for almost nothing. Bring an appetite because they pile it on! The egg sandwich I ate was yummy. I'm definitely going back.

It was just happenstance that I wound up going to Chaffin's after two other breakfast places that I tried to go to were closed and a friend suggested this place as a third alternative. I'm extremely grateful that I ended up here eating delicious diner food and not some run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. Chaffin's offers up great diner food in a comforting atmosphere with an attentive wait staff. I had the Pigs in a Blanket and although they were not prepared as traditionally as I had imagined, they were better that expected. The only downside was that my wife ordered the Chicken and Waffles and her fried chicken came out a good ten minutes after her waffles, so she had to eat a majority of her waffles before the rest of her meal arrived. Nevertheless, the chicken was some of the best fried chicken (yeah, I stole some, don't judge me) and well worth the wait. They also have their own in-house brewed coffee which is quite rich. If you want an alternative to bagels and pastries, give Chaffin's a go.

I ate here for breakfast and had B&G, sausage, eggs and home-fries. Their breakfast is a great cure for a hangover. They made the home-fries crispy just the way I like them. The home-fries were a cross between hash-browns and whole potatoes. Its hard to find a place that serve breakfast potatoes like that. This place is a great 1950s greasy spoon diner with a gorgeous looking wait staff. Don't expect anything but classic greasy spoon and big portions. This is your locals only family establishment.

  • Ernest P.

Mediocre at best! Food extremely bland. Food came out in pieces; not together. Service was average; nothing to be excited about...other waitress were great. But not mine. Food took a minimum of 30 minutes to arrive, and this was basic breakfast... Overall, I would not recommend, and never visit again.

It is a typical diner. The service was fast. The staff was friendly. The decor is outdated. The food was just fine. We got everything we ordered, and we ate pretty much all of it. They do seem to have a larger menu than most diners with gives you some options... oh, and they have free internet... Enjoy!

OMG, where to begin. Let's start by saying I am a huge fan of diners, comfort food, greasy spoons, dives, joints, you name it, I love it. Only criteria is that the food be good and the place be clean. This place loses on both counts. There's nothing wrong with old and dingy, but really, why must the floors be greasy? I was literally sliding my way out of the place after one of the worst meals of my life. Never had mashed potatoes that were crusty, like scraped off the bottom of a burned pot. I just now realized why. We were there right before closing time, guess it was the end of the pot. Chicken fried steak was completely hard and dried out. Again, just realizing now maybe everything was from the end of the day, but that's no excuse. Don't serve it to people if it's not fresh and right. Mushy cole slaw. Dried out hot turkey sandwich. Gravy on the side which arrived 5 minutes after the sandwich, no idea why. Waitress was extremely nice, tho seemed very inexperienced. Had home fries and hash browns, and other than the cut of the potato, there was no difference whatsoever. Both extremely tasteless and boring. Can't believe there are so many good reviews and shocked a place this bad has lasted this long. Maybe no one else ever ventured in close to closing time but I sure hope that's the reason our experience was a disaster, not that it's a good excuse. Between the filth, stickiness and grease of the place, and the tasteless, dry, crusty disgusting food, there's no reason anyone should venture in here at all. Oh yes, and if you do, bring your own soap, cuz the bathroom has none.

Anywhere else, when the waitress hands you the breakfast menu, you know what you're going to find -- most of the time, you didn't even need to read it --it's so the same. At Chaffin's you need to read the menu. There are new and novel ways of combining eggs, potatoes, bread, cheese and meat. I really like it here.

Delicious for breakfast! Breakfast is my favorite meal, and I'm always on the lookout for a great new greasy spoon. I have found it here. Their French toast is delicious, with lots of powdered sugar on top. The portions are big, and the service is quick. All together, a breakfast-lover's paradise.

Chaffin's is great. All of their food is good, but their breakfasts are to die for. There is something for everyone from the traditional breakfast items to huge breakfast burros covered with gravy. I haven't been disappointed yet by either the service or the food. Oh, and they sell their coffee for $8 for about 14oz. Can't find that sort of deal at Starbucks.

One of the best diners I've ever been to! I've never tasted such amazing silver dollar pancakes in my life. I've really been missing out... That's the way all pancakes should taste! Eat here or you suck! And get the eggs bene.

I remember coming here with my friends late at night, but I guess theyre just 6am - 2pm now. Grabbed lunch here with a buddy last week. Typical diner setup, booths long the window/wall and a counter facing the kitchen. Service was quick and very friendly. The menu has breakfast items, sandwiches (hot & cold), and lunch plates. I was going to go with the Monte Cristo (which I had here years ago & remember being delicious) but was surprised when I saw they had a Loco Moco on the menu. I love Loco Mocos, must be the Islander in me. On a scale of 1-5, I would rate their Loco Moco a solid 3. I found the meat patty a bit tough and the eggs were too done for my liking. The rice was good and so was the gravy. My friend ordered a breakfast dish and was left feeling "meh" about it too. Also, beware of the bathroom (atleast the men's room). Pray to God you dont have to go while youre there!!!

Great experience! Geated by floor staff, sat at counter greated by cook who when asked about the eggs royale made point the hollandaise was scratch made daily. Took a bit longer but SOOO worth the wait. Great food, comfortable welcoming atmosphere - very nice departure from the chain breakfast joints. Not my neighborhood but I'll make the trip back.

Chaffins.. long waits, not so great service, but lots and lots of menu options. Every time I have been here, its been after a night of drinking and so all I want is a mountain dew, coffee and biscuits and gravy. And Chaffins comes through every time. BUT I usually have to wait in line, and then wait for the server to even come to my table and then wait even longer for the food to come. The last time I went, my gravy was cold and my friend ordered a side of bacon that was supposed to come with 2 pieces and all he got was 1 tiny shriveled piece. The waitress took forever to come check on us so by the time she came, she looked at him like he was lying and probably ate the other piece. It was a very disappointing experience. There are not many downtown places that serve Sunday breakfast and I want to support this charming little diner, but until they hire more staff, or maybe just friendlier staff, I won't be waiting in line anytime soon.

Stopped in here for breakfast on our road trip from Florida to California. When pulling up it looked a little scary but we thought we would try it anyways. Was very surprised. The waitresses were very attentive..and the food was excellent. There home fries were so yummy and they had a country hash brown special that was amazing. Would definently recommend this place.

Edible. That's about the best I can say about this place. I ordered a Monte Cristo Sandwich, one of my favorites, and I was actually quite surprised to find it on the menu. But then disappointed that they do not deep fry them, as it is supposed to be prepared, but cooked on the grill. I would not return, it looks like it used to be another restaurnt that closed and these people opened it up again, it probably should have stayed closed.

  • Saba B.

Have you ever had the feeling that cockroaches are crawling all over you? Good, remember that feeling and stay away from here because it is infested. In the kitchen, all over the sitting tables, pick a spot. I didn't give it 1 star simply because the prices are cheap

    (1)
  • Mark A.

Awesome food. Awesome staff. Awesome coffee. No complaints at all! Had the steak and eggs with corned beef hash. Hash was fresh and home made. Steak was cooked perfectly and the coffee was very good. Looking forward to coming back.

Its ok, I love a challenge.

Very cool

At all.

Who knows?

5 stars up!

Enjoy!

One of the best diners I've ever been to! I've never tasted such amazing silver dollar pancakes in my life. I've really been missing out... That's the way all pancakes should taste! Eat here or you suck! And get the eggs bene.

Love the atmosphere, lots of comfort food for a great price. Even when they are packed the servers are attentive and upbeat. We're frequent flyers.
