While searching for someone (anyone!) to bake a pecan pie in Tucson in August (my SIL's fav for her birthday) I came across this Cafe - & what a wonderful find! From the delicate but crispy crust to the crunchy pecans to the not-over-sweet filling, the pie was perfection. Voted 100% thumbs-up at our family/friends gathering. We'll be back to try

What a great breakfast. Save room for the rhubarb pie!! Servers were attentive and all smiles.

So this is your typical breakfast joint. They do short order right and the waitresses are on their game. Took my finicky grandparents here for breakfast before they were heading out of town. I know my grandparents and they can be rough to get orders for and please. Our waitress was AMAZING. She completely accomadated them. It should be noted that it was a Saturday morning, they were packed, but no one was missing a beat turning the tables and getting the food out. Is there anything exceptional? Probably not, but the food is dependable, good and the service can't be beat.

It's probably not a good thing that this place is less than a mile from my house. Or maybe it is... This is that old school breakfast place that your parents and grandparents went to back in the day. Breakfast done right! Fluffy pancakes, omelettes, and killer homemade cinnamon rolls. The service was fabulous too. We just moved into the neighborhood, but can already see ourselves becoming regulars. P. S. Don't let the location in the not so appealing looking old strip mall scare you away. This place is warm, cozy, and clean inside.

This place has the best service I have ever experienced. Ever. Ellie was friendly, speedy, funny, and had a memory for the ages. After one visit, she remembered our coffee and breakfast orders. We ate there again the next day (today) and got a few things to go so we could enjoy their stellar breakfast again while they close for Easter. The food is perfect. They're not reinventing the wheel here, but that's not why their regulars keep coming back. They return for the stellar service, the speedy eggs, the buttery toast and cinnamon rolls. Everything is just what you'd dream a diner breakfast would be, and even during the busiest of breakfast rushes, the staff is doing it with a smile. I'm inspired. If every restaurant was run like this, it would improve the world. Seriously.

Awesome breakfast with reasonable prices! Nikki was very welcoming and got us our food within 10 minutes. Highly recommend and need to come back for the pie. The cinnamon roll melted in our mouth.

This is a gem hidden in a plaza that you might miss if you didn't know it was there, but it has the loyal customer base and good food to keep it going strong. Clean and good service, this is a place I will frequent a few times a year.

We drove down from Glendale for a second time. We loved our breakfast so much last time, we were sure to stop here again. This place is a hidden gem for the best breakfast in Tucson !

The wife suggested this place and I happily obliged as I LOVE breakfast. It was a cold, wintry day on our first visit and our daughter had just completed the first half of her weekend soccer tournament. Unbeknownst to me, my wife had already been given wind of this place and had been set on going there for breakfast for a few days, Perhaps I should listen to her a bit more often. For starters, the service was efficient and polite. Our waitress didn't waste any time getting our drinks and within two minutes of us sitting own, our order had been taken. When it comes to breakfast, I tend not to venture too far out from the norm. More often than not, I stick with the basics (Eggs, Bacon, Toast, Sausage, Hash Browns), but when I am feeling a little frisky, I will try biscuits and gravy, steak and eggs or chicken fried steak, Considering this was y first trip to Break and Butter, I wagered that I'd be better off playing it safe, so I went with bacon and eggs, hash browns, wheat toast. The bacon was cooked to perfection. If a diner screws up on bacon, it can put a serious damper on your entire experience, but if it proves to be bacon connoisseur by satisfying my taste buds and appetite, the breakfast can be borderline heavenly. My only complaint were the hash browns, which I preferred to be just a little more crispy, but they were still good and I scarfed them down nonetheless. Quick, prompt service. Great breakfast -- especially the bacon. Affordable prices. Yes I'll be back again and I plan on giving the new location a shot too.

Awesome place for a late breakfast. The veggie omelette was very light and tasty, and the banana bread is an absolute must-have. Service is also excellent and friendly.

This place is awesome!! Great and friendly service!! Food was awesome too!! The pancakes are not too thick and so soft n fluffy, it melts in your mouth!! I haven't had a GREAT breakfast like this in a while and this place TOPS it all!! Very reasonable prices. Highly recommended!!

My first experience here was excellent. My husband and I were very pleased with our orders. I was happy to see Turkey Sausage on the menu. My eggs were cooked to perfection...I am super picky with the cook on my eggs. The server was very capable and friendly. This place packs up and there was a wait to be seated, as well as for our food, but it was worth the wait!

If you're looking for a solid breakfast joint to be a regular at, this is the place. Bread & Butter has great, clean, we'll-prepared, delicious food that comes out really fast even when the place is full. The service is really friendly. The chorizo is bangin' For real, try the chorizo in a burrito or as a plate. The real specialty here this their made-fresh daily from scratch pies. The recipes are top-secret and only the ownership prepares these works of art. If you're not feeling like prickly pear meringue or banana cream their cinnamon rolls are REDONKULOUS, seriously. Any time coming back into town from the airport or when I'm hungover or just wanting to enjoy a lovely breakfast B&B is the spot. Ellie usually works the bar and is super nice but a little strange in a fun way. No they did not pay me to say all this, and I don't work there, it's really that good.

Food average, nothing special. All prepackaged or cooked from frozen. Service ok. Seems rehearsed and canned. Management is hawking over workers and customers to "keep it moving" Not real impressed.

Great food and awesome service! Always packed but worth the wait. It's a total dive spot, but those are the best places.

Scrumptious food. I had a huge cinnamon roll. They had heated it and served with butter that just melted over it. My daughter had an omelet with bacon - some of the best bacon I have tasted in years. The service was amazing. This is the kind of place with lots of regulars - everybody seemed to know everybody else. The best kind of local diner.

If you're looking for a great breakfast look no further. Great food, great atmosphere, great service. I've been going to bread and butter for years, it's a great family establishment and I highly recommend it.

This is a decent diner with decent food. The coffee wasn't very good, but it was good enough. The menu options were robust. I had chorizo and eggs with hash browns and a flour tortilla. My husband had the bacon pancakes that he raved about. It was a Sunday after church so they were very busy but were able to accommodate a party of 6 (we ended up squeezing into one booth though). I wouldn't mind coming back here during the week if I'm in the area.

I love this place!! The server Aimee was wonderful very professional and kept my drink topped of the entire time, she is also cute :). The food was amazing and you can't beat the price. I will be coming back here for sure.

Great food and great service on the previous visit. But, today, my wife and I stopped in for some breakfast and right out of the gate, the server was very rude and stared down at my wife. After the stair down, she ignored us for a few minutes then decided to by condescending and ask us what we wanted to drink and eat. My wife had enough and we paid for the untouched coffee and orange juice and walked out. I will definitely be spending my money somewhere else.

Love this place. It's always my first choice for breakfast. The pie is so good but I've noticed that it tastes like it's been stored loosely covered in the fridge. I still order a slice of rubbarb to go on every visit. :)

Great Food!! Waitress was rude as ever, as soon I finished my plate we were rushed out and my girlfriend didn't even finish yet....oh my bill was 20 bucks is gave her a 40% tip and I was still pushed out pretty much...

  • Patrick W.

First off, the service here is unbelievable....5 stars all around with coffee and water refills, prompt ordering and the food arriving in minutes. The food was a good run of the mill breakfast place with omelettes, huevos rancheros and pancakes enjoyed by our party. But let me tell you about the home fries....deliciously crisp (not soggy) and so well done. I would get a whole plate next time and skip everything else on the menu. Good hot coffee and great service. I will definitely come back and try a pie next time.

  • Adrienne M.

Basic food, typical coffee. It was busy, but the food came out fairly quickly. There was nothing bad but nothing to recommend about this restaurant. I probably won't be back.

This place just makes me just want to say aaaawww! Such a sweet place with equally sweet staff. You leave full...and your wallet pretty full too...so inexpensive! I had the green chile and cheese omelet, grits and sourdough toast (yes they offer sourdough mmmmm). It's much harder to come across this combination back in NYC...good, inexpensive, and super friendly.

  • Michael S.

Bread and Butter is a consistently solid place. The service has always been good and friendly. The prices are reasonable. My favorite dish is the beef philly, which (suprisingly) is one of the better phillys I've had. Its good for breakfast and lunch.

    (4)
  • Gil M.

While some dishes might be slightly better than others, there was nothing on the menu that was above average or even unique. The food was average and if there was anything noteworthy about this little breakfast hole it was quickly eclipsed by the barrage of flies. NOT a worthwhile "got a try this place once" trek.

    (3)
  • Sally S.

People watching great. Service quick. Food...nothing special. My pancakes were bland. Fruit bowl was really a melon bowl. Disappointing to my daughter who doesn't eat melon. I knew we were in trouble when I saw the tortilla on her breakfast burrito. It was a shiny, non-authentic, never touched by authentic Mexican hands tortilla. We'll try a different spot next time.

  • Rudy K.

Ate here for the first time when I got disgusted by the awful rude behavior at my previous breakfast/lunch joint. Had an omelet and hash browns. Very tasty and the waitress was very nice and attentive. I'll have to try the yummy looking pies next time. It is a friendly place and was packed, so that is a good sign, tool. Good service is worth a lot and this place has it.

Breakfast was very good, reasonably priced and the service was great. I ordered a combo with eggs, bacon, and french toast. The eggs were a bit overcooked but still good. It was 9am on a Sunday and our party of 4 didn't have to wait for a table even though the place was busy.

  • Nick D.

Stopped in for breakfast. Top notch service and delicious food. Had steak and egg whites with sourdough toast and fruit bowl. Cooked perfectly. I would have given it 5 stars but the flies were bothering the hell out of me. That said I will be back.

Great staff. Great food. Great prices. I love the omelets. Don't forget the bacon cakes. Bacon inside your pancakes....can't go wrong with that lol.

I went one saturday morning with no great expectations but was surprised to find the place packed, which very often signals that you have arrived a the right spot. My wife had the standard breakfast, eggs, turkey bacon, home fries, toast, coffee. Me, I got fancy and order Huveous Rancheros and that I admit was my mistake. Next time I will follow my wifes lead and stick with the standards. When you keep your order simple Bread & Butter will provide a pleasant breakfast experience.

We've been looking for a good breakfast place in tucson so we decided to give it a try. There was a short wait which we don't mind but when there is a sign posted that they only seat entire party's and we notice two tables with their party trickle in and we're standing and waiting its a bit frustrating. If you post a sign about something enforce it otherwise don't post anything!! It took a bit for our food to come out but the coffee was good so it was ok. The food was very good. Pecan pancakes are delicious !!! We'll go back

We're visiting from out of town and found this place on Yelp. We loved it! They're great with kids, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was authentic. Great little hole-in-the-wall local diner. The prices are phenomenal, too.

The Bread and Butter Cafe reminded me of the diner in my hometown where everywhere came to eat and chat. What a comfortable place to have a meal: Friendly servers, low prices, and good ol' American comfort food. Can't beat that combo. Cheese omelette with grits and muffin were mighty fine. The peach cobbler had a nice taste to it with the nutmeg added. I will definitely add this cafe to my favorite breakfast and lunch places.

Dont be fooled by the plain exterior. This place is tops for breakfast & lunch in Tuscon. Great food and attentive service. Everthing is clean & fresh. Great cinnamon rolls too! They just opened a new location at 22nd & Harrison with more seating space.

If you know me well, you know I LOVE eating breakfast out. I don't know what it is! It's the simplest meal of the day to prepare, and there isn't as much opportunity to stimulate the tastes buds or excite the sense like there is if you were going out for dinner. I can't explain it, but nothing gets me going more than an awesome breakfast at a tiny little hole in the wall, and Bread and Butter Cafe fits the bill! I was introduced to BBC about a year ago by my good friend Amy. It's tucked away in a strip mall on 22nd Street, and if you don't know your street numbers, it's likely you'll pass it. I returned to BBC this week and was instantly reminded how much I enjoyed it! I had what I would call, without hesitation, wait for it...one of the BEST omelets I've ever had. I can't even tell you what made it so great, you'll need to take my word and go and get one. Two eggs, mushrooms and spinach: It's not on the menu, but they are SUPER flexible and open to preparing whatever you want-within reason of course. My omelet was served alongside crispy hash browns (a place that understand what 'crispy' means) and a home baked biscuit. I don't want to say it was love at first bite, because that's super cliche, but let's just say if I could redefine marriage as a union between man and his biscuit I would be first in line at the court house. Garrett convinced me to wrap up with a piece of pecan pie, but to be honest, there was little arm twisting-When I walked in and saw the menu of 9....NINE! home-baked pies, I knew the only thing I had to figure out was which one. You have to have a sweet tooth for pecan pie, and luckily I'm part sugar! If pecan doesn't peak your interest, how about rhubarb, apple, coconut, chocolate cream, banana cream, strawberry and two others I can't remember because they didn't make it past the first cut? The meal was great, the staff was friendly, the food was off the charts, and I can't wait to return. I have a few more pies to try, an extensive menu that would take months to get though and love for a soft and flaky dream carb I call biscuit.

BEST BANANA CREAM PIE E-V-E-R!! It was so fresh & delicious & I would highly recommend it to anyone! I can't wait to try other pies and their regular food also.

This place is my vote for best local breakfast spot. They have AWESOME GRAVY. The chicken fried steak is up there but that gravy makes it. Clearly it is made from scratch Went there 1:45 ordered some they had just pitched the gravy so they made me some fresh it took about 20 min as well it is the real deal not out a package. Also since I had to wait they took it off the bill. You will have to wait to get a table on most days. There are 2 reasons one must always have to wait for a table at a restaurant 1 the place is super trendy and it is the place to be or 2 IT IS JUST THAT GOOD. Being that this place is in an "economically deprived" part of town and its neighbor is a booze store makes me think it falls into the later category. Also their french toast and pancakes are good here. Oh and try the home fries.

Great local place for breakfast we found for the first time. We had eggs, sausage, toast, and pancakes. Also bacon which was great. And for dessert....which we had before breakfast...peach cobbler and rhubarb pie, delicious! Coffee was ok, better than church, but not better thank Starbucks. Servers welcomed everyone that walked through the door, very nice.

This place doesn't seem too special at first. It's in a weird strip mall and has the decor of your typical blue collar breakfast spot. But then you enter and realize that there are BACON PANCAKES on the menu. You then proceed to order said BACON PANCAKES with a side of BACON and, suddenly, you realize that you finally "get" Ron Swanson. No?? We'll you'll probably agree that they're damn good, at least.

I love this place! Been coming here for years and never had a bad experience. Super friendly staff and food is excellent. I recommend any of their omelettes! Hash browns are great and they actually know what it means when you ask for hash browns crispy! Wow! Will keep coming back!

Delicious! I had the chicken fried steak lunch entree which came with mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and a dinner roll. It hit the spot after 18 holes at Del Urich. Staff was fast and friendly and the portion sizes are HUGE. They have a large selection of fresh made pies if you have any room afterwards. 4 Stars ****.

Ever since I was a kid, my parents brought me to our go-to breakfast restaurant. They were always local, small business, no nonsense places that made some killer pancakes, gorgeous waffles, and could always be counted on for a really good omelet. Since moving to this side of town, im so happy to say that this place is within walking distance to my house and I try to get over here as often as I possibly can. This is a workin man's breakfast place. Simple food done really well and for really fair prices. This is a real greasy spoon kinda place. Great atmosphere - it always seems like a bit of a party being here. Everybody knows everyone else, friendly expedient servers, and regulars on all sides of you. When i get a better cashflow, I aspire to be a regular at this place. If i had millions and millions, id still come to this place to keep my feet in the roots. GET SOME PIE...for goodness sake, dont skip the pies. Be adventurous--a la mode! mmmmm. May have to get up early tomorrow just to get me some bread and butter.

Walking distance from my work. They are extremely nice and is okay home style food. I come here often and the guys at work eat here every day almost and I tage along some time. Nothing really wows me.

I would have never ventured into this breakfast place if it wasn't for Yelp. It's location in a strip mall (with a liquor store to the east, a 99-cent store to the west, and a pawn shop to the south) doesn't exactly scream "Come on in for a great breakfast!" But, that is exactly what I found inside. I ordered my standard, greasy-spoon-style breakfast: eggs, home fries, bacon and toast. Tasty! I also got to try the huevos rancheros and the apple pie. Totally satisfying! I was also happy that the breakfast didn't break my wallet. Gonna be back!

Happy to have found this authentic local spot before leaving Tucson. It was great to indulge in homemade food that I would not otherwise eat on a regular basis. The staff was friendly and greeted everyone as they came and went. I enjoyed the corn chowder which had the right amount of bite. The chicken fried chicken was a rare treat, although the green beans tasted canned, the mashed potatoes were fresh and lumpy. The banana cream pie for dessert was the real treat. Plenty of whipped cream, flaky tasty crust, and perfectly sweet and tasty.

We had a nice family breakfast here on a weekend morning. It was a bustling, mom & pop's style cafe'. You can expect all of the fan favorites: Chicken Fried Steak, Huevos Rancheros, Hotcakes, Joe. You know the drill. We saw everyone from retirees to cops to families when we were in. You may have to wait if you get there too late, so get yourself up and head over there early.

What a find! I read about this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Good quality, reasonably priced food. Great service that comes with a big smile. But be prepared to wait during weekends...

I'm lovin this place! My Grandpa likes to order a slice of chocolate cream pie BEFORE his breakfast. The biscuits and gravy are huge and so yummy - ordered the large one for the whole table. The price is right. The huevos rancheros is excellent. We met the owner who was so kind to us. He was busy bussing some tables when we left. I love the feeling of this place, so cozy. You could go here in your PJ's... The waitress was such a darling woman with her signature line... Ya'll hungry?!

I love this place! My family eats frequently at Bread and Butter Café and it's always delicious. We've been going there for over 18 years, since they were in their old location nearby, and we've never been disappointed. We always TRY to save room for dessert because they have the BEST pies, but often we have to take a slice or two home with us because we don't have room. You've got to try their pies!

Its a old diner, girls were fast and attentive...can't really say the food was outstanding..I ordered over medium egg and it was more like sunny side up...am I overly critical? Coffee? Just a hot coffee..If I can break it down the rating system..food - 3 stars and waitress - 4...

This place my friends swear by so i had to come out and try it. First thing i notice is all the options i have to choose from, it took me awhile but i figured out what i wanted. I ended up getting the Mexican Grill, the breakfast version. It was really good my only heartache for this plate was the price to portion ratio, it was 9.50 (including my OJ), yet at the end i was still very much hungry. So i come back here every time i am back in town. I have found things that fill me up so it isn't a bad choice at all. Just explore what they got. if you want a bomb cinnamon roll show up early or else they all sell out for that exact reason. Also the chili is homemade and a special recipe. Tastes good ALL the time...i'm drooling just thinking about it....mmm This place is great for groups too, they offered to split checks for my friends and I, we didn't have to ask, service is amazing and they are very friendly here. Definitely worth going a few times to try different things on the menu. btw if you want healthy food you are SOL...this is a straight up all american cafe...no frills, just food

I usually eat everything and I mean everything however this place I would say the only good thing about this place is the friendly service and the cheap price. So I can see why you get what you pay for. I came here for breakfast and was hoping to write a good review about it since words on the street said it was amazing. So I ordered liver and onions with hash browns and bacon on the sides. The liver and onions have really no flavor that I had to eat each bit with a piece of bacon to give it some flavor. My hash browns tasted like it was cooked a old skillet and I could taste residue of old oil in it. I would have to say the only tasteful thing I had here would be the Cactus Fruit pie which at least had good flavor. There was a little taste of refrigerator residue as well in it though. I don't think I will be visiting here agian.

This place is awesome - I went two days in a row for breakfast. Good service, food is brought out hot, always refills on coffee. And refried beans as a side. I went back a third day for lunch and the open face hot turkey sandwich was piled with turkey. The house made coconut pie was the best I have ordered in many years. I can't wait to get down to Tucson again.

So my roomates and I agreed to try a new breakfast spot in Tucson. The only person who heard about this place was my sis. My first impression was oh its cute. It was very busy so I thought it had to be a good spot. Service was on point, prices were cheap. I was sure this was a diamond in the rust. Prove me wrong but the only thing fresh/scratch on my plate was the eggs. I had the country fried steak and eggs. Now I can go on about the food but I just deleted it and decided I'm gonna give this place a second try. But as for now, not the spot.

Yum, Bread & Butter is the real deal. You have to believe me because I think this is the first time in my life I've written "the real deal". We went this past weekend and honestly, I'm a little surprised at just how much I liked it here. It was a bit crowded when we got there. There were a few families waiting to be seated. We sat outside on the benches and my kids thought the "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service" sign was funny. They claim to have never seen that before giggling at how someone would go to restaurant without a shirt. But I digress . . . . once we were seated, our super sweet waitress asked if we wanted coffee and took the kids' drink orders. I wanted to order the bacon cakes (pancakes made with bits of bacon mixed into the batter) just to add it to my bacon list. I ended up ordering eggs with chorizo, refried beans and four tortilla. Oh my. It tasted so home-cooked. Just the perfect way that someone like my grandma or my MIL can cook Mexican food but I can never master. Delicious! My husband had an omelet, sour dough toast and tomatoes. the kiddies had pecan cakes and banana cakes. While we were eating, I noticed that the waitstaff would greet many of the regulars by name and knew their orders. How lovely to have a quaint little diner where people know your name and remember your "usual". It made me a bit sad to think that this is exactly what I had expected of a little cafe close to home which had the worst food, the worst service and is now closed. The food was no frills, simple and delicious. The coffee was hot, my cup was always getting a "warm-up", the service was attentive and just really sweet (the kind of waitresses that call you "hun" or "babe"). It almost seemed perfect that they were playing Tom Petty on the radio. I was eyeing their board with the list of pies, but sadly have to say that I didn't try any of them. The portions are so generous that we ended up with three to-go boxes. There was absolutely no room for pie. Yes, this is a little diner in a strip mall. There's nothing fancy about it, but the tasty food and charm are a must-see.

I've been coming here since I was a child, in the 80's. My family moved our of state when I was young. Everytime we were back in Tucson, I always begged to eat at Bread and Butter. I Now live in Phoenix and make a point of eating here everytime I am in town. The place is a little hole in the wall café on 22nd ave, just west of Columbus. The inside is always clean and the staff are grey friendly. One waitress has been there since they opened in the late 70's. The cinnamon trolls are excellent. But If you want one make sure you get there early. They only make so many for the day, and once they are out, you are out of luck. I always get the huevos rancheros. They are great. Nothing fancy, but delicious. I have tried their biscuits and gravy, although it has been a while, they are excellent. Their home fries are good too. If you are looking for a good place for breakfast, that is not expensive, then I would highly recomend Bread and Butter Cafe.

Nothing special, but pretty good. Better than eating fast food for sure. Coffee is typical diner coffee...not that good.

Had custard pie. Good service. Will try again when I'm hungrier.

We stopped in based on the various reviews we saw here on Yelp. Great little diner, looks like it's straight outta the mid west. The food was standard but good breakfast food. The cinnamon rolls were worth the hype - very good. We've made this a regular place to go to now on the weekends.

I had spainach and swiss omlette this morning and it was delicious! I rather to eat this place instead of IHOP or Denny's! I believe that it is family owned which it is almost always the best! The price was really cheap for an excellent food! The server was really good to me!

I was expecting greatness based on the other reviews, however the breakfast wasn't anything special. Service was great though.

This place was just a typical breakfast diner. They advertised fresh pies but the peach cobbler I got was made from canned peaches. The food I got there was just ok. I think my party just didn't order the right things. Some stuff on the meny that we should have got but didn't was the cinnamon roll or the banana bread. Also the lunch items looked like they would be pretty delicious. My party gots breakfast staples (eggs, hash-browns, toast, fruit bowl, cottage cheese) all of which was ok but nothing better than average.

I wasnt impressed with this place. Everything we got was pretty mediocre. The thing that was especially disappointing was the pie, they promoted it as homemade and tasty and we got canned peaches :/ I kinda expected it going in because of the diner style breakfast, but i also tend to like these places because of their fun laid back atmosphere and cheap prices. I've been to cheaper and tastier places.

I went here a few weeks ago. We loved it! I love breakfast sooooo incredibly much that its a little bizarre. Seriously the people here are adorable and so nice and they really stand behind what they are making. Simple delicious breakfast food. Who can complain? Whether you want some bacon and eggs or a bowl of cereal I found this place charming. I love little greasy diners and I must say this one definitely makes my list! Again though I love breakfast so I must say I might be a little biased...it's on 22nd and seriously the name of it says it all-Bread and Butter, why wouldn't you go for some breakfast? Always packed on Sundays!

Enjoyed the huevos ranchero very much. Coffee was good and flowed freely. Server was super friendly and efficient. My only disappointment was they were out of cinnamon rolls!

More like 3.5 stars really. Solid, but nothing extraordinary. This reminds me of going to the Hy-Vee cafeteria back in Iowa and hanging out with my friend's grandparents in the morning. Old-school diner look, old people clientele. Everything fits. The food certainly is a step up in quality from Hy-Vee but about the same basic execution. A heavy morning when you order the fried chicken.

One word, Excellent! Mom and Pop place that never, EVER disappoints. Wish I was closer to go more often.

As Yvett R. says, it's "the real deal." I went to Bread & Butter after disappointment with Bobo's and feeling dispirited about breakfast in Tucson. B&B delivered on everything Yvett mentioned. I can't add much to her review, but here goes...They know not only first names, but apparently a bunch of last names--and that some people will be coming next week at the same time, and what kind of pie they usually have, etc. There's a really warm vibe, but if they get any more hospitable it might be creepy. They're very enabling with coffee--I probably downed 6 cups. I have tried the pecan pie, chocolate banana cream pie, and butterscotch cream pie--they were all excellent. I had the green chile cheese omelette with fruit and biscuits and gravy--simple but good.

I have been going to this place since I was a child. Very friendly people who know and remember their customers. If you want affordable breakfast/lunch that tastes great this is the place you have to go if you are in or anywhere near Tucson. Their omletes and biscuits and gravy are to die for, I have never found a better omlette at ant other restraunt I have ever been to and nothing close to being that reasonable in pricing either. The desert is even better. People will glorify the pies there as they should the pies are fantastic. The thing about BreadnButter is if you see someone loving the pie, that just means that don't get up early enough to get their freshly baked every day, home made cinnamon rolls. Their cinnamon rolls is their staple. They are HUGE, and I mean big enough for 2-3 people huge and they go fast. So you need to get there relatively early to get one. You won't find better breakfast anyplace else, this is the place to go.

These pies are fantastic! I just got married over Labor Day weekend, and my fiance wanted to have pie as our dessert. I set up tastings with several places in town, and the pies here at Bread and Butter were far and away the best we tasted. We ended up getting raspberry, rhubarb, mixed berry, pecan, and apple. The creme pies we tasted we also great, but we didn't know how well they'd keep on the day of the wedding. Our guests went wild for the pies, and we received lots and lots of compliments. Mike, the owner, is a friendly and helpful guy. He was very easy to work with, and really put a lot of personal attention into making the pies for our party. Highly recommended to anyone who wants some delicious pie, by the slice or by the dozen.

Saw this recommended on yelp and tried it this morning. Thanks for the posting that said it was in a strip mall - would have missed it otherwise. Friendly, fast service - GREAT diner food at a good price. I had the huevos rancheros with refried beans and a side of grits - really good. My mom got the biscuits and gravy - also very good. Didn't have room for dessert - maybe next time. Will definitely go back when I'm in Tucson again.

Coming back to Tucson after many years I'm having a grand time seeking out local eateries serving up fresh, homestyle flavorful meals with examplary customer service. Bread and Butter Cafe gets my vote for Best Little Cafe -ever! I've dined twice- breakfast both times. Chose the grits on the side-with my omelet. Yum- served piping hot with great dollop of butter. Raisain toast is moist and flavorful...Garrett (son of the owner) was my server and he took great interest in how my experience was unfolding. A delightful young man who stands proud in the footsteps of this family establishment. You feel like you are back in the 70's...abit retro but very old fashoined- the counter is front and center with the lively personalities of the lunch ladies and you see the tops of the heads of the cooks having a great time cooking up these delicious meals from scratch. Everytime someone walked in or out they were greeted or saluted...they knew most everyone by name...and what their 'ususal' was. Reminded me of the spirit of Cheers! I was so tempted to have a piece of pie but will reserve that for the next time...pecan would be my choice....what a womderful experience. Every special detail to service the customer was noticed... Thank you Garrett, cooks- see you soon. Chef Jo

Service was great, place was clean an quick, but breakfast wasn't anything to write home about. I had the mexi- breakfast which was carne asada, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, refried beans, 2 eggs, and flour tortillas. P2 had sausage biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were great but gravy was bland. The carne was good but I really wish I could have tried the cinnamon rolls. We just didn't get here early enough.

Great standard breakfast diner. Price is between IHOP and Bobo's, but I definitely prefer this to Bobo's because there is a lot more seating and it's cleaner. The atmosphere is great, and there are so many posters and signs on the walls. Really comfortable place where the coffee flows freely.

Greasy spoon delicious. Sweet waitstaff. Grits were super good. Hash browns were yummy. One of hubby's fried eggs was "broken," but food was overall good. Fast service and reminded me of Mel's Diner on Alice.

Wonderful mom and pop Southern-style restaurant. When you walk into Bread and Butter their staff greets you with a very loud, "Hello! Sit anywhere you'd like." The atmosphere is very friendly and they cater to mostly regulars, a geriatric population. The staff remembers everyone and is so friendly it seemed like they had interpersonal relationships with all of their guests. Not only is the service great but the food is impeccable. The style is Southern and it is extremely affordable. They are known for their Southern-style biscuits and have a daily selection of about 10 different pies. (I don't like pie but I took a chance on the chocolate cream and was not disappointed.) I'm always a fan of restaurants that serve RC cola, which they do. My friends all got breakfast entrees and they looked wonderful. I only wish I had been gluttonous enough to attempt the dinner menu after my pie.

We didn't make it early enough to snag one of the famed cinnamon rolls, late enough the very friendly and very efficient waitress chuckled at me. What we did have was great, everything from blueberry pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs and homemade biscuits and gravy. My husband, who as I've mentioned is quite persnickety, especially about breakfast never being cooked right, loved everything. Eggs, toast, hash browns, bacon - nothing was under or over cooked. Coffee was never empty and my daughter was so thrilled at the choice of marshmallows or whipped cream in her hot cocoa she had both. Service was great and you could tell this was a local favorite with waitresses asking about the daily lives of their customers, people stopping to chat at one another's tables, etc. I overheard someone asking about pie, the waitress replied they were already out of some and only a slice or two of others. It was 11:30am and already pies were almost gone for the day! The restaurant is straight out of the 70s decor-wise, and my only complaint was it was really warm inside. I'm sure from the body heat and kitchen, and the lightening speed of service. Because it was warm enough to be warm enough to note, I have to give it 4 stars. Would I come back, most definitely!

Here's my bias: I love breakfast and I love small, friendly diners where it feels like the owners/staff know the regulars by name and what they like to eat. This is definitely that kind of place (the owner himself met us with a smile at the door and showed us to our seat). That being said, I think this place is awesome. The service was outstanding -- waitress was very fast and attentive. In fact, she almost had our coffee poured before we could sit down. I highly recommend the banana bread (warmed) -- very, very melt-in-your-mouth good! I had the banana pancakes and they were very tasty. I also tasted the pecan pancakes and they were likewise excellent. My only minor complaint was that the pancakes weren't cooked quite as dark as I like them, but I tend to like my pancakes really well done -- just a personal preference thing and certainly not a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned. I also enjoyed the hashbrowns -- nice and crispy. I would definitely go back.
