El Rancho Restaurant Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

I give this place 5 stars for their Philly cheese steak burrito! Salsa was fresh, not too spicy - the kids were starving and put that $h!t away! 2.5 stars is way underrated. If you want some classy mexican food in Payson, throw El Rancho on your radar.

We stopped here on the way back to Phoenix on a whim after a great weekend of camping in the deep woods. This topped things off nicely. I was still feeling the campfire drinking from the night before, so no famous margarita for me, but the Pork Chimi con Queso was just what I needed after eating camp food since Friday night. The chips and salsa were also very good. We sat at the bar and the service was excellent. The bartender was very familiar with the menu and able to make some good recommendations. I will definitely be back.

Not the place it use to be! Much better places in town! This place was sold a few years back and the food has suffered. Instead try El Mexicano just a few blocks down the road!

loved it -- nice afternoon drive to Payson from fountain hills. Very clean and excellent service. Some of the best Mexican we have had -- the chimis were wonderful. Definitely worth the stop -- even a special trip.

I can't understand how this place has gotten bad reviews. I was nervous to try it, but I couldn't have been more impressed. The service was outstanding from Jaime & Penny. LOVED the chips and salsa and the food was top notch. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

This place is so cute! Love stopping here every time we drive through Payson. The food is good and love the salsa.

The El Rancho has long been the Rim Country residents' favorite Mexican food restaurants dishing up scrumptious south of the border delights such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos and more at reasonable prices. Our family's favorite is the Navajo Taco which is more than enough for two hungry diners. El Rancho offers two Mexican style hot sauces - one mild, thick and chunky the other, which comes in a squeeze bottle, tangy and hot. For a real blast of flavor, ask for the squeeze bottle. Each meal is also preceded by a complimentary bowl of tortilla chips which is refilled upon request. We recently attended a retirement party catered by El Rancho and the food buffet of Mexican favorites drew raves from most everyone. The owner, John, keeps the restaurant, restrooms and accompanying bar spotlessly clean. The wait staff, which includes several who have worked there more than a decade, is both courteous and efficient. Bartender Matt is friendly, efficient and attentive. Happy hour prices are among the lowest in Gila county. Not only is the El Rancho a Payson favorite, there are those valley residents who regularly make the drive north on Beeline Highway to enjoy their favorite Mexican dish

On vacation at Kohl's ranch, in town for errands, decided Mexican for lunch sounded good! Gave El Rancho a try. Wish I had read some of these first. We were seated in the rear dining room, walking past a table at the archway with servers eating and rolling silverware on the same table. One girl came over and asked if we would like a drink- we ordered iced tea. Then our waitress came to the table. I was interested in the Navajo taco- it had been a long time! I asked if they were made fresh, she said they were. That would be impossible as when I got it it was room temperature and the beans and meat were barely warm , therefor the cheese was not melted. It was so, so. I was hungry so I ate some, but left most of it. The chips were different, not much flavor and room temperature. The salsa was good a 3.5, nothing to get super excited about. My hubby got a chili rellano, the breading looked a bit thick, he said it was decent. Someone else said it was "Americanized", could be because the owner i John Kirshbaum, but that is still no excuse. I make killer mexican food! We won't be back. Instead we will be headed to Diamond Point Shadows, technically in Star Valley!

Ok, just ok. I go back once in a while but my wife hates it, hence the two stars. The service is hit and miss, either so-so or horrific.

  • Chris H.

Skip it. Should have known from the complete lack of Mexican atmosphere, down to Country music playing on the sound system. Food was mediocre at best, completely uninspired. Service was pleasant, and the place was clean.

I really don't understand all the bad reviews of this place. My husband and i eat here often and have always loved it. They have GREAT salsa - though it's not very spicy, but it's flavorful and is just the right amount of chunky. Every entree we've had we have loved. The flavors may be a little "Americanized" as other reviewers have said, and YES, I've had much more "authentic" Mexican food at different restaurants, but this is Payson, come on guys. If you're looking for "authentic" then you need to vacation in Tijuana. We have also had great service every time we've been. My only qualm with the place is the patio. It is small and claustrophobic, with only about six or seven tables total on two tiny patios. If they could some how build a decent out door seating area, i would easily give them five stars.

Went up to Payson to visit family. They suggested this place. The building is adobe looking and it looks like its been there for awhile. I ordered a shredded beef burrito and it was so good that i saved the rest of it for dinner later that day and i never eat leftovers. Chips are good but didnt care for the salsa, it wasnt bad but it wasnt something you would remember. The first waitress needs to retire, kind of rude.

Not one hispanic in the place. Just a lot of haughty white folks. Food was total disaster and service was just as bad.

  • Kari D.

We sat in the bar. Great bartender/server!! Chips and salsa brought to the table fast. Salsa OK. I ordered Chicken tortilla soup. It was in a big bowl, w/a tortilla shoved in the bowl, like a taco salad effect? Strange soup. It was not a broth based soup like I expected. It was real thick, and had corn and black beans. Pretty bland tasting. I'm sure I'll eat here again, since my in-laws always want to eat here. At least they have good service.

Death by salt... I was sooooo hungry after a full day of exploring Northern AZ. This place looked like it had the most cars in the lot so I figured it was probably going to be okay. Very Americanized Flavors...I won't get into details other than I felt like a Horse sitting down to dinner with a Salt Lick Brick. The service was good and the food was promptly brought out. But I've been drinking water like a Cow all the way home.

If you are serious about getting tipsy off 1 margarita this is the place to go. I always sit in the lounge because the bartenders are awesome and very friendly, they always remember me when I come in. I order a Presidente margarita and this is one strong drink. 4/5 alcohol and 1/5 sweet and sour. I get the Presidente each time I pass through Payson to get a buzz and show my love to this restaurant.

  • Sherita W.

I was in Payson for training with my job. A few of my coworkers and I stopped in for dinner one night. It was mediocre to say the least. I am a Mexican food lover and this place was just ok. I tasted nothing that would encourage me to return. The service was prompt and the waitress attentive but the food was bland. The salsa was pretty good and the prices reasonable but in order for me to eat here again it has to be the only available option.

We made a special trip to Payson just for El Rancho on this cold rainy night. They didn't let us down. Chicken taco and cheese enchilada for my wife and as always the chili relleno for me. Chips, perfect. Salsa, fresh. Marg, strong and big. Friendly waitress. Worth the trip.

I have since been informed since this post that the beans have lard in them. FYI. 4/26/11 ----------------------------------------- I have been to El Rancho a few times over the years while driving back and forth between our cabin in Colorado. For awhile this was our go to place for grabbing dinner before arriving back in Phoenix. In the beginning, the food was a lot better. I don't know if it has anything to do with I used to not be a vegetarian or not, but I just remember it tasting better. I used to get the Navajo Taco, which is fry bread with meat, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and olives. The first time I got this with some friends it was hot, and crispy and tasted really good. I went back a year or so later and it just wasn't the same. It was cold, the cheese wasn't melted and it just didn't look appetizing. I had to ask that they take it back and melt the cheese so I could eat it. Needless to say I didn't finish it that time. The most recent time I came here was in March of this year on another drive back from Colorado. My husband really wanted to go here, but being a vegetarian since the last time we visited here I wasn't so sure. Most Mexican places we have been too since I became vegetarian haven't had much in the way of actual vegetables. But I figured at the least I could get some cheese enchiladas. So we came in, it was moderately busy for a Saturday night. We sat down and were ignored for at least 10 minutes. Ya it was busy, but don't keep walking by our table, seeing we have been sitting there for that long, and still not ask us even if we wanted water. It was rude to say the least. So our waiter finally comes by to ask us what we want. I decided on the spinach enchiladas, which sounded extremely unhealthy but at least I would be getting a green vegetable in (sorta). I asked to not have sour cream on it since it makes me extremely sick, and the waiter then informs me that they prep the enchiladas the morning of and the sour cream is in the middle of it. Like, they can't take two minutes to re prep two new enchiladas sans sour cream? Whatever. So I settled on two cheese enchiladas. They were gross. I don't know what kind of cheese they were using but it made me sick to my stomach. The beans were disgusting as well. I don't know what has happened to the quality of the food at this place over the years, but its defiantly not for the better. Even looking around, most of the clientele that frequent this place were about 200 pounds heavier than I was, which is enough right there to make me say "Adios El Rancho." This will probably be the last time I come here. It wasn't satisfying in the slightest, and I just felt gross after I ate here. If you value your stomach and your waist line, I also suggest you don't bother with this place.

we ate dinner on 8/20/2011. we ordered a burrito and a chimichanga. my burrito was full of shredded beef but had no flavor. my wife's chimichmanga was mostly full of green chili with less chicken than she expected. the waitress was nice and we did get free chips/salsa. overall an OK experience but it could have been better.

    (3)
  • Jason B.

I had a great experience at El Rancho, the food came out fast and hot, service was excellent... they even had a great kids menu. I'll be back next time I'm in town.

As far as a recommendation, one would be better to go one parking lot north to Del Taco. We went to El Rancho against advice from neighbors. We had been to the other Mexican Restaurants in town and wanted to try the remaining one. We had also been told they had a really good Margarita. The place is worn, this is not is unusual for a small town, nor a Mexican restaurant. We got seated immediately. The waitress is friendly, and chips, cheese dip, and salsa are put on the table. The chips are fresh, the cheese dip is Velveeta with salsa and jalapenos. We get a pitcher of Margaritas it is a lime aide margarita on the rocks. It is OK, but not really good. We order dinner. The menu is a short list. That is usually a good sign, do a few things very well. Dinner was what most home cooks would probably do if they through together "Mexican Food". It was not horrible, but not memorable. Service was attentive through out the meal. Water glasses and chips kept full. The restaurant was 40%-50% full. Portions were a big size and prices were reasonable. I got food poisoning that night. Up and down to the bathroom all night. My gastric distress went away after 18 hours. Truly, the only thing memorable about the meal. If no other restaurant in town was open, keep driving and starve it out until Flagstaff.

We have been going here for years when we come up from the Phoenix area. I have never had a bad experience or meal. The staff has always been courteous and the food has always been great. I always look forward to going back.

Its a tradition withy family. The food is amazing and the dishes are fantastic! 1 word of warning: when the staff says, "hot plate" it is atomic!

  • Shawn S.

Green chile pork was absolutely fantastic. The server Tasha was a sweetheart and really hustled. The restaurant was really busy but we still got our food quick.

Taco Bell is better !!!! I had the Navajo taco!!! Lettuce and more lettuce than more lettuce- followed by a water downed almost a margarita. Big glass full of mix ...... Mmmmmm Save your self the time use the drive thru anywhere else!!!

Simply wow! We were a group of 9 and saw your restaurant on our way to go camping on 4-27. We wanted to stop on our way, but time was running short so we decided to stop on our return trip to Phoenix. One of my camp mates called and made reservations for the 9 of us. When we arrived, the hostess promptly greeted us with a smile as she directed us to our table. We each took turns going to the restrooms which were impeccably clean. Our waters as well as the chips and salsas were filled without hesitation. Our server was Cherrie(let me know if the spelling is incorrect). Her warm smile combined with her welcoming attitude was genuine and well received. She was a perfect model of how a waitress/waiter should be. She made us each feel at home. When our food arrived, everything was perfect, absolutely perfect. Cherrie did a terrific job of making sure everyone's food was served at the same time and didn't leave anything behind. Such a rarity living in the city. Quite honestly, I'd be willing to drive the 1.5 hours from Phoenix to have another great experience and the hospitality that the El Rancho on Beeline in Payson has to offer. Kudos to the management and staff for taking good care of 9 hungry campers!

Driving through Payson AZ yesterday, 05/30/15, after a hike and stopped by El Rancho. The reason we stopped was they had a lot of cars in the parking lot. The salsa was very chunky, tasted good but not spicy like we like it. We noticed a bottle of hot sauce on the table and put some of it in the salsa and wow it was great then. We completely loved our meal. Both were delicious and TRIED to eat it all but got too full. The rice was a surprise at the taste, want a bowl now for breakfast. Very good flavor. Beans were nothing special but not bad. Our enchiladas and beef tacos tasted wonderful and we will definitely go back when in the area hiking or traveling.

In my opinion the best Mexican food in town. This is where I take guests, and always rave when there. Casual dining, friendly servers. Is busy as is popular. Love the cheese enchiladas, are my "go to". There is a lunch taco salad which I had last time and was satisfying, and will get again. Not enough to say about this place, the food is amazing. One friend used to drive here from Tempe (90min one way) just to have lunch, I guess that says a lot.

    (5)
  • Kylie H.

Steer clear of so called grilled chicken dishes. You can clearly taste that it is frozen chicken strips. We got the Santa Fe chicken burrito. It was so salty we couldn't even eat it. Save your money and go to Taco Bell.

  • Lyndsay T.

Delicious Mexican food. Fast and friendly service. Definitely get your money's worth.

    (5)
  • Karen A.

Food was ok, chips and salsa were good the salsa is not spicy. I had the spinach enchiladas with rice and beans. The enchiladas were too salty and the rice was not the best. My husband had the two carne Asada tacos with flour tortillas and he loved them. The atmosphere was very quiet and service was ok. I wouldn't recommend this place.

    (1)
  • David H.

I would loved to have the opportunity to rate the food, but alas the service was SO bad, we never got the chance and decided to leave instead. Wasted a good solid 40 minutes of my day...

This is my in-laws' (and apparently Payson's) go-to place for Mexican food. We've been to El Rancho multiple times over the past 10 years. Ambiance is dark and dated. Staff are always friendly and attentive, with very good service. Margaritas are good to very good. The food is typical commercialized Mexican. Nothing here is authentic. What keeps everyone coming back is the consistency and tastiness of the food. OVERALL: AVERAGE. RECOMMENDED.

    (3)
  • Luke E.

We stopped here on the recommendation of a hiker and really enjoyed the food. We weren't especially hungry but managed to polish off our plates. The Quest Loco burrito is a lot of food but so worth it. My wife had the chicken tacos and had no complaints. Chips were fresh and salsa was great. Drawback, but seems standard for the town, is the 9pm close even at the bar.

    (4)
  • Taylor M.

Best Mexican place I have ever been to hands down. Recently just moved to Phoenix and have tried just about every Mexican place down here an none compete. Still having to make monthly trips to Payson to get my queso loco burrito fix.

Stopped by El Rancho for dinner after golf in Payson on Saturday around 6 PM. The parking lot was almost full which is a good sign, but I was in a hurry to get back down the hill, which may have been a problem. The place is much larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. El Rancho was pretty busy but I was immediately seated in a nice booth. The server came over right away with water and complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were warm and the salsa was chunky but not too hot for me. I had checked out the Yelp review ahead of time and ordered the "Senior Chimi" (55+) which is a smaller version of the regular dinner at a very good price. It was only a few minutes until my meal arrived. The pork Chimi with green sauce was served with rice and beans, sour cream and guacamole. Pretty standard Sonoran fare - but served hot and tasty. No surprises. El Rancho was exactly what I was looking for.

Pretty good food for smaller rural town. Service staff was really hustling and working in teams. Multiple people helped us. Service was very good.

  • Antonette J.

Fried ice cream was the best we've ever had. Our waitress was very friendly, decked out in St. Patty's day green. The service was great, the food was phenomenal, and overall it was a great experience. We've been here maybe 8 times over the last 5 years, and each time has been memorable. We found out today that their patio seating is perfect for a quick lunch.

    (5)
  • Rebecca A.

Great service still but food has gone way done hill! Used to frequent this place years back but would not recommend it now! Was sad with quality & taste.

    (2)
  • Darren W.

The fish and shrimp tacos where excellent. The rice was light and fluffy, skipped on the beans. Asked for extra limes for my Dos Equis larger and got given a whole bunch which i was very pleased about. The free chips and salsa where not too spicy and the service was some of the fastest and friendliest I've ever had.

  • Tammy K.

We stop here every time we are in Payson. The food is great and so is the service. This time they had a 2 for $20 special with an appetizer or dessert. We love the sopapillas with honey. We are from California so we don't have Indian Fry Bread at home and this is my favorite part of the meal. Get a pitcher of margaritas and you can't go wrong with any of their entrees. The chimichanga and carne asada tacos were excellent!

    (4)
  • Terry K.

Three of us ate here a few weeks back (middle of January 2015), ordering a variety of menu choices. No need to go into detail because all I can say is the food was average typical Mexican one can find almost everywhere. You know... smothered in cheese with beans and rice. What else is there to say. It was okay, but nothing to look forward to coming back for.

    (3)
  • Taylor S.

We went there tonight around 6:45 it was fairly busy, but not too busy. We got sat right away and then we got our drinks, but no server was there for over 30 mins so we got up and left and went else where. They didn't even say oh we will be right with you or have you been helped yet? Nobody greeted us. Worst service we have had there!

    (1)
  • Katarina K.

Yuck! The enchiladas was soaked in something called jalapeno sauce. It was gross. The rice was burned. Also the tacos tasted like they were stale and the iced tea was too sweet

  • Jyl A.

Was in Payson for a few hours with a friend to pick up his dog that had been in boarding. Stopped here to eat and was pleasantly surprised they had a dog friendly patio!! Not only was that a plus, but the staff was SUPER friendly and the food was excellent! I will definitely be back!!

Fast service. Chips served immediately. Tasty food. Staff worked well together. Clean and modern restroom. Enjoyed dining here.

Absolutely love this place! We drive 2 hours just to eat here! That's how you know its amazing. We go hiking in payson and afterwards we eat here. The food is amazing. The salsa and guacamole is the best i have ever had. They truly put a lot of love in ever dish they make. They really need to open one in Phoenix!

Definitely blows la Sierra out of the sand. The tortilla soup was basic but tasty. Hard to complain about a dinner under $10, especially when a beer was on that bill.

  • Stef S.

It was busy, so we ate in the bar. The bar tender (Matt) was GREAT! He had a packed house, but was very attentive to our group of 7. The food and service were excellent. Next time we are in Payson, we will definetely be back.

    (5)
  • Jamie M.

Two ground beef tacos, rice, and beans were scrumptious. Salsa was only 'ok', chips were warm which adds points. :) Strawberry margarita was big but not great. My Mother got green chili soup and she loved it. She also loved the salsa. :) I'm more of a picky as* but then again she can't smell so she's a bad judge :) The soapapias (sp) were too think but good flavor. Next time I'm in Payson, AZ I will go again. It's busy but the staff keeps up!

    (3)
  • Levon A.

Chicken tortilla soup was excellent. Beef Fajita was perfect, why because it has more veggies including Anaheim green chili on the side, besides onions. Most Mexican restaurants offer Fajita's with lots of onions with less veggies such as bell peppers. Baja enchiladas is also good, the Baja sauce is similar to Macayo's Mexican food from Phoenix tastes exactly like it. To drink Don Julio Platinum Margaritas is a must. Sopapillas (without powder sugar coating) wasn't all that good, it's not fluffy, puffy, & it's too salty which I won't try again. Definitely I'll be back with my family to this establishment when ever we're going thru or staying at Payson.

    (4)
  • Laura M.

Great food! Place was packed so we ate in the bar! Matt, the bartender, was swamped but paid great attention to us and gave us great service! Totally recommend this place if you are in Payson and love Mexican food as much as we do :)

  • Deadeye D.

I'm not sure what most people are looking for when visiting a small town Mexican place, but they did a great job and we will certainly go back. Food portions were large (we split our dinner), the drinks were made well, and we left with a smile and full bellies. The spinach and chicken enchiladas were excellent. Recommended by locals, and rightfully so.

    (4)

Best Mexican food around, their fundido sauce is amazing. I live in Phoenix and will definitely stop and eat anytime i drive by this place. Servers are attentive but not annoying and the food comes out fast.

Holy smokin enchilada! Pass this one by. The absolute worst of gringo mex. The Chile Relleno looked like a corn dog, full of grease and over fried. The chile inside the greasy breading was thin and stringy. A perfect chile relleno should be light and fluffy on the outside with a freshly roasted green chile stuffed with real cheese inside. The enchilada was the worst I have ever had in my 55 years of eating mexican food. The corn tortilla was stale, the cheese was the consistency of velveeta and the sauce was tasteless. AND, this combo plate was so overpriced for the quality and amount served, though as I did not even finish the plate, I was glad I didn't have to leave more on it! The Hostess was not very friendly and seemed bothered to be doing her job (a comment already mentioned on other reviews - and I agree). The server was friendly. If you know what good mexican food is, DO NOT GO HERE. The drive in take out/eat in just south from here is so much better and authentic. JUST PLAIN BAD MEXICAN FOOD.

With the best Mexican food in Payson, this gem has become a family tradition when in the Payson area. We mainly do takeout, but they also have a dog-friendly patio and a convenient location with ample parking. Three minor criticisms: the price point is a tad high (and it got higher recently), especially when you have to pay for an extra order of salsa. And while they've always been willing to make a substitution or adapt a dish for me, they haven't always been adept at delivering the adaptation I ordered as specified.

LOVE this place. I enjoyed lunch here on day two of my three day AZ Mexican food tour. I've been here MANY times over the years on visits to Payson and it's always solid. I had a green chile chimichanga (something I have YET to find in California) and it was everything that I hoped it would be. The chips and salsa were quite good and plentiful. My visit was with my Aunt, two uncles and my brother. One of my cousin's sons was going to join us so my Aunt ordered for him. He got hung up and they asked for his meal to go. By this time we were all done and it had been sitting in the pick up window for a while so the chef made the order OVER for us, no charge just GREAT service. Oh El Rancho, I miss you.

Traveled from 'the City' to Payson for a little weekend trip. First of all, there aren't a lot of options in Payson to begin with. I went on a Friday during Lent and was looking forward to either shrimp fajitas or some sort of seafood enchilada... Neither was offered. Only the standard battered fish fry or fish taco were offered. I got the fish tacos, which I would give 3 stars. The queso dip was also pretty good, maybe 3.5 or even 4 stars. El Rancho receives only 2 stars because their wait staff is ridiculous. There was a herd of 3-4 of them (our waitress was part of the pack) that would meander throughout the restaurant. We would have to call her to separate her from her social preoccupation. "Um sorry to interrupt you, but could we get another margarita?" Also, I hope they "beef up" their seafood options. Regardless of Lent, delicious shrimp options are a staple at any respectable Mexican restaurant.

Asked for extra limes for my Dos Equis larger and got given a whole bunch which i was very pleased about. The free chips and salsa where not too spicy and the service was some of the fastest and friendliest I've ever had.

Taco Bell is better !!!! I had the Navajo taco!!! Lettuce and more lettuce than more lettuce- followed by a water downed almost a margarita. Big glass full of mix ...... Mmmmmm Save your self the time use the drive thru anywhere else!!!

My husband has had the opportunity to review the resturant in the past. He suggested that we not go. I, on the other hand love Mexican food - and of course we went. The service is lousy. The food is bland. Save your money. Being Arizonan - I know how to make it - or will travel back to the Valley where they know how to make it right. Dining out is a treat, I always tip 20 percent (and did so even with that crappy meal). But I refuse a repeat preformance. I will only give my money to those who treat us with respect - ignoring your customers, not checking on them, us having to flag you down so we could go home...

If you are ever in Payson and are craving a great mexican meal I would highly recommend El Rancho the food was delicious and service was excellent!

Its a tradition withy family. The food is amazing and the dishes are fantastic! 1 word of warning: when the staff says, "hot plate" it is atomic!

I can't understand how this place has gotten bad reviews. I was nervous to try it, but I couldn't have been more impressed. The service was outstanding from Jaime & Penny. LOVED the chips and salsa and the food was top notch. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed.

Skip it. Should have known from the complete lack of Mexican atmosphere, down to Country music playing on the sound system. Food was mediocre at best, completely uninspired. Service was pleasant, and the place was clean.

Definitely blows la Sierra out of the sand. The tortilla soup was basic but tasty. Hard to complain about a dinner under $10, especially when a beer was on that bill.

It was busy, so we ate in the bar. The bar tender (Matt) was GREAT! He had a packed house, but was very attentive to our group of 7. The food and service were excellent. Next time we are in Payson, we will definetely be back.

Great food! Place was packed so we ate in the bar! Matt, the bartender, was swamped but paid great attention to us and gave us great service! Totally recommend this place if you are in Payson and love Mexican food as much as we do :)

Steer clear of so called grilled chicken dishes. You can clearly taste that it is frozen chicken strips. We got the Santa Fe chicken burrito. It was so salty we couldn't even eat it. Save your money and go to Taco Bell.

Best Mexican place I have ever been to hands down. Recently just moved to Phoenix and have tried just about every Mexican place down here an none compete. Still having to make monthly trips to Payson to get my queso loco burrito fix.

Yuck! The enchiladas was soaked in something called jalapeno sauce. It was gross. The rice was burned. Also the tacos tasted like they were stale and the iced tea was too sweet

Was in Payson for a few hours with a friend to pick up his dog that had been in boarding. Stopped here to eat and was pleasantly surprised they had a dog friendly patio!! Not only was that a plus, but the staff was SUPER friendly and the food was excellent! I will definitely be back!!

Absolutely love this place! We drive 2 hours just to eat here! That's how you know its amazing. We go hiking in payson and afterwards we eat here. The food is amazing.

    (4)

I was in Payson for training with my job. A few of my coworkers and I stopped in for dinner one night. It was mediocre to say the least. I am a Mexican food lover and this place was just ok.

Ok, just ok. I go back once in a while but my wife hates it, hence the two stars. The service is hit and miss, either so-so or horrific.

Skip it. Should have known from the complete lack of Mexican atmosphere, down to Country music playing on the sound system. Food was mediocre at best, completely uninspired. Service was pleasant, and the place was clean.

I had a great experience at El Rancho, the food came out fast and hot, service was excellent... they even had a great kids menu. I'll be back next time I'm in town.

Steer clear of so called grilled chicken dishes. You can clearly taste that it is frozen chicken strips. We got the Santa Fe chicken burrito. It was so salty we couldn't even eat it. Save your money and go to Taco Bell.

The salsa and guacamole is the best i have ever had. They truly put a lot of love in ever dish they make. They really need to open one in Phoenix!

Great food! Place was packed so we ate in the bar! Matt, the bartender, was swamped but paid great attention to us and gave us great service! Totally recommend this place if you are in Payson and love Mexican food as much as we do :)

Best Mexican food around, their fundido sauce is amazing. I live in Phoenix and will definitely stop and eat anytime i drive by this place. Servers are attentive but not annoying and the food comes out fast.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America.
