Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. For a cafe I'm rating 5 stars because of blueberry pancakes made to, in my opinion, the perfect thickness & size, fast, hot and very yummy! Also stole some hash browns from my man and think I'll be getting my own next time! Cafe is cash or check only.

Good burger and fries and the service was pleasant. It felt like a locals place and that is what we love when we travel out of town. The inside in small but clean. They do not take cards so we had to get cash from the ATM. It is kind of odd that even a small family owned restaurant isn't able to take cards and if we hadn't read the small sign we would have had no idea. For both of us to get a burger, fries and drink it was about $20 so average price.

We enjoy family owned restaurants, especially with a long history. But we were not happy with this one. We came in for a early dinner after traveling 9 hrs. So we were hungry tired and wet from the rain. The inside is alot smaller than we thought. With low ceiling and small booths and small restrooms. Our waitress wasnt very professional and forgot several basic items. She wasnt busy. She was just standing behind the counter staring out the front window. We had to grab her attention a few times for more water ice tea napkins and dessert. The menu wasnt great either. When we got our food we were not impressed. Chicken fried steak was paper thin and burnt on the edges. It tasted freezer burn. The gravy was very good though. Mash potatos were good too. Veggies tasted canned. Soup was way to salty The cherry pie wasnt good either. It tasted old. The prices were way too high for a diner. Our bill for 2 people was 36.00 and they only take cash or check. No cards So we had to use the atm they had in the restaurant to get cash for our meal. Very odd. I was hoping this place would be great but unfortunately it wasnt.

They do not accept credit or debit cards, be aware. They have a bank machine to get money out of, with a fee. This issue makes it difficult for those unaware and I feel strongly reflects as a customer service issue. That said ~ is a good breakfast, small venue, has specials and prices are very reasonable.

Awesome breakfast. Hot coffee. Great service. All 4 of us had something different and it was alllllllll great. I would drive from Phoenix just for this breakfast.

Love this little place! Food is always fabulous as is the customer service. We always try to stop here when we pass thru Payson!

My parents live in Payton. Every time we drive up there, we drove by and I think, "I want to try this sometime." Well, I did today. Great little diner like Restaruant. Got thrashing bacon cheeseburger and fries. Everything tastes very fresh and homey. The pie looked good, but I was too full. Will save for next time. Great little find.

Hmmm, love good local diners & after reading many of the previous reviews, thought we'd found a diner still making food from scratch! Well, maybe the food doesn't come out of a can, but it's much more underwhelming than excellent... We had dinner; lemon-pepper chicken & fried chicken. The tomato rice soup was ok, probably homemade but no flavor. A little black pepper helped... The baby carrots were overcooked, soggy & bland... The chicken breast was cooked well but no lemon flavor whatsoever, a little black pepper on it but pretty blah.... The fried chicken was overcooked, bland & also mediocre. We heard from everyone that their pie was homemade & delicious! Well, if anything could save this diner & meal , would be to finish it off with some great pie, eh? I'd had enough disappointment for the evening & didn't want to waste the calories or wheat on this place, but my wife was brave & ordered the cherry pie. Well, it wasn't terrible, but was far from "the best pie" I'd ever had! Too bad, love supporting local good eats but wouldn't come back. Fargos restaurant was a very good meal, dessert and very tasty - would definitely go there instead (pricier but a very good value).

This breakfast was so cheap! I got 3 eggs, 3 pancakes and bacon for under $8. The people who work there are so nice and serve quickly. The town is so small and quiet so I am assuming a lot of people there are regulars. The bathroom was also very clean! The parking is a bit limited, but I guess that's what you get when the place is as small as this.

  • AZ R.

Pretty cool diner with yummy yummy pie. I got the Rueben and asked for turkey instead of corned beef and it was perfect. The bread was nice and toasty not to much meat, not to much 1000, not to much sauerkraut. Fries arn't fried in dirty grease and I also tried the coleslaw which is made from scratch. My aunt said the coffee is good but the pie had a lot of jelly in it, either way pie was good and you can't beat the side of the road pie eating diner.

Great diner. Stopped for burgers on our way from Phoenix to Holbrook. Perfect patty melt on rye with Swiss cheese. Fat onion rings lightly breaded and crisp. Thickest strawberry shake I've ever had. And it was delicious!

Our family loves to go camping in Payson every fall and the Beeline cafe is always our spot for breakfast. It is a small little mom and pop diner and the seats fill up quick in the morning so its always best to get there bright and early. I can't rave enough about their french toast! It is light and fluffy and has the perfect melt in your mouth taste. My kids inhaled their pancakes and my husband did the same with his very large country fried steak. We had hot coacoa and coffee which were tasty too. I really like there biscuits and gravy as well as the hash browns which are massive. Come hungry because this place gives you enough delicious food to feed a small army :)

  • Lisa C.

I love the Beeline. My brother and I used to stop in here back in the day. Now, we both bring our kids here whenever we're in Payson. After a serious hike or rock-climbing session, this is the perfect place to refuel. If you don't expect the decor to be 5-star and the food to be anything "fancy," you won't be disappointed. Have cash on hand. No credit, debit, or checks.

From reading the reviews, I was excited to try the pie, but boy was I in for a surprise. The breakfast was okay, nothing remarkable and I've certainly had better. Overall though, this place was dirty and old. The bathroom was overflowing and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. I do not recommend stopping here.

We came for breakfast just after they opened, around 5:45 am. The waitress was very sweet and waited on us right away and it took about ten minutes to get our food. The eggs and potatoes were very tasty and hot. I ordered the biscuit, which was homemade. It was a bit dry, but lots of butter and jam corrected that! There were a lot of locals there and they got the same prompt service. As we left town, we passed another cafe that was open for breakfast and there were only two cars parked there - I can see that Beeline Cafe is the place to be and we will definitely eat there again when we are in town.

Worst breakfast ever. My eggs were so gross and slimmy. It just seemed like the food was already made and just sitting their all morning long. My boyfriend got food poisoning from eating there. So gross. Their was a huge roach crawling on the floor while we were eating. Service was not great. Would not recommend to anyone. Should of gone to the cafe down the street .

  • Robert B.

I can't speak of the breakfast but I can tell you Dinner was amazingly good. I had the Prime Rib special, my wife the lemon pepper chicken, my kids the Chicken & seafood plate and the Chicken strip dinner, all of us went home stuffed and happy. The mashed potatoes were real, the seasoned carrots tender, the bean soup was the best I ever had. Fresh homemade bread and food portions that guarantee you don't walk away hungry all for the price you could compare at Denny's but much much better. To top it all off homemade pies which we had to take home from being too stuffed for our own good. Enjoy a meal here it is everything you would like from a family owned business since 1967.

Waffles with Strawberries, extra whip cream, 2 Sausages or Bacon, & 2 Eggs over Medium for $4.95?!?!? DEAL. This quaint place is Packed but they are SO speedy with their food that they are able to keep the masses churning right on through. It's all pretty standard- BUT they come out 'as ordered' and promptly, which makes me a Happy 'lil camper! Some of the staff is... interesting. They are definitely not allowed to do any multi-tasking... you just hope that they didn't have anything to do with the preparation of your food ~ And Ignorance is Bliss! Beeline has been around for A LONG TIME. There is a very interesting history regarding the development and success of this Cafe on the front page of their menu. I could tell it to you, but they'd prefer if you came on in and read it yourself :)

Love this place. Really decent food at a very reasonable price. Service is always friendly. It's my go to place when taking a breakfast ride up to Payson. Just remember though, it's cash only. NO CARDS ACCEPTED

  • Nikki K.

I would have loved to rated this little place higher, but it just couldn't make it. Walked in, flys everywhere, that's fine, I could deal. The waitress was wearing a character scrub top, I thought that was very interesting. Sat down at our booth, sticky and tiny..and the windowsills..do not get me started. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, the bun was amazing and so waa the bacon. No pre bussing, no refills. Just very average service. Giving three starts because I'm being hopeful that a second time might just prove me wrong due to some of these amazing reviews.

Had what we wanted. Hot Chocalate and Cider. Delicious Pies a La Mode. Ladies were delightful, and highly attentive. Turkey Bacon sandwich was just as expected. Love the decor, and mountain town diner atmosphere.

  • Tonya M.

You get what you pay for. It's cheap food at a cheap price with less than decent service. While the portions are good and the prices are very cheap I'd rather pay a little more elsewhere and be satisfied.

Great place for breakfast. Eggs were perfect, bacon was delicious, but by far the best thing was the cinnamon French toast. It was my first visit, but I'll be back

Great food and kind, speedy service. Remarkably cheap too. I had french toast made from cinnamon roll -- I didn't even know such a thing existed! My friend's biscuits and gravy was great too. I will be back.

Absolutely, without a doubt, the best cherry pie I've ever eaten. Shazam! It's a small town diner atmosphere, with super friendly staff. Loved the rhubarb pie, too, but not as much as the cherry. ;)

Stopped by for breakfast. This is the kind of diner I used to go to as a kid with my family in the Midwest 50 years ago. I consider the decor rustic, retro. I had the hashbrowns (nice and crispy), bacon (also good and crispy), and 2 sunny side up eggs (done perfectly), toast, and tea. The price was fair, the service was fantastic, and the parking was right next to the door. Warning: this is not the place for the pretentious looking for a swanky, upscale experience. This is hearty food for the average Joe.

Classic Mountain-Style Diner from the 60's. Not fancy, but solid and an excellent value. Exactly what we were seeking when passing thru Payson. Service was friendly & very efficient. Coffee was hot and refills plentiful. Eggs cooked just right (both scrambled & over easy). Biscuits & Gravy were respectable and large, but not amazing (needed a bit more sausage.) But, the Almond Crusted French Toast was fabulous with a perfect balance of crunchy & moist (served with warm syrup too). We definitely recommend Beeline (be sure to bring cash).

Have passed this place many times on trips through Payson. On the basis of numerous recommendations, I finally stopped in for breakfast. Place has a storied history, that is fun to read about on the menu. Quaint interior, limited seating but good food for a fair price. Pleasant staff and very attentive. You cannot go wrong by stopping in at the Beeline Cafe. Cannot speak to lunch or dinner. FYI ... they only take cash or checks! ATM machine in the establishment.

Breakfast: food is o.k. The service is o.k. on a good day. Dinner: Don't eat here on Monday & Tuesday because the servers are Lazy & slow. Wont give refills or follow up or pre-bus. Only comes back to give you the bill. On other nights just ask to sit in Linda's section. She makes the 'o.k.' meal a better experience. She has been there over 20 years and has a great sense of humor. It is run by the adult kids of original owners who passed away many years ago. They switch out management every two years. I don't think they really give a hoot about their parents place anymore, they seem to treat the place like its a chore. Servers (all except Linda) seems to be in need of anti-depressants. Probably because the owners have never given them a raise or benefits of any kind no matter how long they have worked there.

I was expecting more. A charming place with friendly service. Too bad the food just didn't make it. The biscuits and gravy were just bad. Salty gravey and the biscuits disintegrated into crumbs when I tried breaking it in half. Bacon was limp. The coffee was great though and the staff made sure that my cup was always full. Eggs were cooked to order. I so wanted to rate the Beeline higher. There are so many good reviews for the place. The best I can do is give them another shot. And don't order the biscuits.....

  • Debi B.

It's exactly what you would expect....small town diner, well worn booths, counters, tables in need of updating to some extent. Food is average, nothing extra special or unique, but tastes good. Good old fashion cheeseburger and fries. Good breakfast specials. Remember...Breakfast only served until 11am and CASH ONLY. Prices are average $.

This is going to be short and sweet, kinda like the hostess. The place was packed for lunch rush so it took awhile to get a able for five. Didn't help that the place is small and from what I observed while waiting, nobody was in any kind of hurry to leave. We finally were seated, we ate, we paid of course and left. Food was good diner style fixins and service was acceptable. I would stop here again. It's got character baby! Better than any of the chain restaurants in the area!

Such an old-fashioned, cute, little place. Love the atmosphere. Very friendly staff! The food was so yummy. I am a HUGE fan of the hot cocoa! The prices were very good. 4 of us ate for under $30! I would definitely recommend to a friend :)

I LOVED this place. Prices were very reasonable, and when the food arrived, there was a lot of it. I got the hot beef sandwich, which was bread (store-bought, though, but still good) covered with mountains of roast beef and smothered with gravy, and it came with mashed potatoes topped with more gravy. Yum. The road beef was juicy and tender, and the gravy was flavorful. Even the mashed potatoes (which are usually bland at most places) had some flavor to them. I was also happy that a salad was included in this, and it was only about $7 or $7.50. My boyfriend and his dad both commented that they really liked their burgers. It seemed that the waitress was the only one in the restaurant (I did see a woman at the bar, but I could not tell if she just served the bar, or if she also waited on the other side of the restaurant), but she did a great job keeping up with everybody, making sure we all got our orders, and she was friendly during this process. She was quick to get our orders taken and our food to us, and she actually asked if we wanted anything else before she delivered the bill. She also checked back with us once or twice, asking if we needed anything. The only thing I think this place needs to work on is maintenance of their restrooms. The women's room wasn't dirty, but it was messy. Paper towels were on the floor, and the toilet paper dispenser was almost empty, with no new rolls of t.p. in site. It's not a complaint. But if they need to work on something... My only complaint is that I don't live anywhere near Payson, and I don't see myself coming to the area often. Too bad, because I would definitely return here again, and I would likely be a regular here if I did live in the area.

Someone call Chef Ramsey on Hell's Kitchen to the rescue. Food was marginally ok. At that I have to stop and warn about a least a half dozen health code violations observed here. A member of the kitchen staff with long hair pulled into a pony tail, ceremoniously swang her hair from side to side like a horses tail in hot pursuit of a fly. Plates upon plates being piled high into the service window between the kitchen and dinner with bottoms of plates touching food on other orders. In the same window where these orders were being thrown, I observed large amounts of crumbs, food and dust in the window. Sitting below this window, a large 2.5 gallon tub of unrefrigerated butter sitting open, in a prime spot, ready to act as catcher to any of this food as it made its way over the edge of the counter as plates were slid out of the window by wait staff. As orders were placed in the window for pick up the cooks were tearing down the order sheets that had been handled by at least three people and were placing these on top of the cooked food. At this point I will stop as it begs the question of what else is being done that shouldn't be done or vice versa. Food was ok, but nothing to write home about Service was strange. Our waitress anticipated our needs by what some might refer to as some sort of strange telepathy! I sat down and immediately had a menu handed to me by a waitress attending the counter area, but not so much as a word was spoken as she headed in the next direction. My husband sat down and we shared the menu; again the telepathic waitress wizzed by and placed a menu in my hands without either of us uttering a word. Finally, she stopped by with an expression that might be fitting of "FLO" on MEL's Diner for those of you that remember that show. She asked what she could get us. We gave our orders and the next thing you now coffee flew into coffee cups and water magically appeared out of no where without a word. As we placed our order, I suggested to my husband that he might like an alternative to hash browns due to them being fried. The waitress then for a second time with her "Flo" like expression broke her vow of silence and told us," they both hit the grill, it won't make no difference". Oh.... I replied . I guess both are equal in their adverse affects to your cardiac system, may as well stick with the hash browns. As we had our food fare, I apparently gave a few glances here and there, indicating to my husband I was checking the place out a little more closely. Mostly looking for any signs that would indicate how long it would be before I started to feel the effects of food poisoning. So far nothing showing there is a risk for hospitalization. We finished up and paid the check going about our merry way.

For years we have stopped at some of the fast food restaraunts for breakfast as we pass through Payson coming back from camping. I realized that I should be spending our money to support the local economy so I stopped into the Beeline this week for some lunch on our way to the Natural Bridge. I got the chili burger and the kids got the usual chicken tenders and quesadillas. It was pretty darn good, inexpensive and quick. I like the old local diner feeling. I think we started a new family tradition.

Old school cafe, so be easy on the food and decor (and bathroom). Onion bun stayed toasted and crispy the entire time I was munching on the southwestern burger (fries are nothing special, and the upgraded onion rings were ok). The guac was obviously pre-fabbed but good enough, adding in the AZ Gunslinger bottled sauce which up'd the burger enjoyment. Our blueberry pie filling was canned (my general finding for any joint that offers lots of pies and says homemade in a small town), though the crusts were definitely scratch. Friendly service! No credit cards!

Took a spontaneous motorcycle ride up to Payson from Phoenix and stopped at this little cafe for lunch/dinner. The special happened to be pot roast and while it is spring and that's a winter food... I tried it because I love pot roast... hands down the best pot roast I've ever had. OMG. The meat was tender, delicious... my mouth is literally watering as I'm thinking about it! The staff was friendly, pretty prompt and very pleasant. Love the little diner/cafe feel... they've done a good job. Was a perfect stop for the afternoon!

I took a camping trip up to the White Mountain Apache Reservation with a few friends and drove into Payson around 6 or 7 o'clock in the morning. We saw this quaint little diner on the Beeline Highway so we figured we'd check it out. We were quickly greeted at the counter by a very friendly lady and were shown our seats at a comfy booth. I recall ordering two pancakes, two scrambled eggs, and two slices of bacon. I don't recall what my friends had, but I remember one of them had the french toast. We all had coffee and water, and orange juice when our meals arrived upon our request. The pancakes that were laid in front of me were so big, the plate was entirely engulfed. The pancakes were particularly better than your average buttermilk pancakes. I was impressed to see such wonderful flavor from something so normal that I've eaten a thousand times prior. The eggs were perfect. They were fluffy, moist, and somewhat crispy on the edges with a light butter flavor, leading me to believe they make their eggs in a more old fashioned manner (that being via a buttered skillet or griddle) and perhaps with some milk added to the eggs. The bacon was perfect as well. Not overcooked and dry nor undercooked and fatty. It's difficult to describe perfectly cooked bacon, but if you have had it, you understand the texture. My friend with the french toast I recall not hearing a word from as he was gorging himself on his meal with eyes wide open as though he'd tasted ambrosia itself. After he had finished, he told us that it was the best french toast he's had in years. The coffee was particularly good. The orange juice did seem like a basic OJ from concentrate, but it wasn't bad. The service was great, the server was friendly, fast, and had the whole diner to serve by herself that morning. The diner itself really is small. I wouldn't expect it to seat more than 40 people, but I wouldn't be surprised if people were lined up around the corner for this diner. The cost of the meals was very appropriate. I don't remember exactly how much my meal cost me, but I do recall it was around seven dollars for the food, coffee, and orange juice. Add a tip in the mix and you're looking at about a ten dollar breakfast. Ten bucks may seem like a lot for breakfast, but I think I underpaid. It was a great meal and I am eager to go back to the Beeline Cafe whenever I am in Payson, AZ again.

Four of us ate here for less than 30 bucks. That was pretty impressive. The food was great but mine personally didn't come out very hot. Warm at best. I'm all about the breakfast and loved that they served theirs until 11. Great place to stop and eat in Payson.

It's a diner, what more can I say. It feels very muck like a spot for locals. My husband really enjoyed his pancakes. I ordered the Denver omelette with hashbrowns and toast. I was pleased with my meal, everything was hot and fresh. The hostess is a doll. The prices are very reasonable, $13 for 2.

Friendly staff but the food was NOT GOOD. At all. My friend & I both disliked it and had stomach pain after wards. Blah. It's just cheap ingredients, not appetizing. Definitely NOT recommended.

Beeline kicks ass. The waitresses have all been working there for at least a thousand years, and they probably haven't cleaned the grill for at least that long, but the food is pretty good and it is a convenient place for lunch when you want to get out of the heat for a couple hours. You know in Westerns when the stranger walks into a bar and everyone turns to look? Beeline is like that. They clearly seat all off the locals on one side of the restaurant and the strangers on the other. There is a woman that hangs out at the register (the owner??) who looks like a cross between Tammy Fae Bakker and Rose from the Golden Girls, and what could be better than that? I had a grilled cheese and fries. It was quality. The hubs had a burger. He reported on it's deliciousness. It's not a five star joint, but if you are looking for frou frou... what the heck are you doing in Payson anyway? Word of warning: Don't bother with the restroom. It was an afterthought, and is hardly big enough to wash your hands in, much less use the facilities.

A great burger and fries for $6.50 is a pretty good deal. It was a little interesting being the youngest group in there by far. Everyone else was over the age of 65 I think. Old people are funny though. Service was nothing exceptional but the staff was nice. It was good food but it's not like I'm going to make it a habit of going there when I pass through the town.

Well I guess I should have ordered the burger. I went to the Beeline Cafe yesterday on a trip to Payson to collect some tree limbs for a project im doing. I read the reviews and it sounded like a winner so I thought I would have lunch there. The place is a little old looking diner which is the kind of place that usually has good food. I sat down and looked at the menu and found it did not seem to have a very large selection. I went ahead and ordered the corned beef sandwich with a side of mashed potato's. The food came in about 3 minutes which surprised me. That's pretty damn fast even for a sandwich. Well, the sandwich itself looked like something I could have made at home. The bread was right out of the local grocery store. The corned beef looked and tasted like it was from that same local grocery. I could not believe how small this sandwich was. I had been to Chompies in Paradise Valley a week before and for about $1.50 more I had about 6 times the meat and much better bread. The sandwich was very plain with out much taste. The mayo was in a little cup and was sweet to the taste. This did not compliment the sandwich well at all. The mashed potato's were better but not by much. All in all this was just a bad lunch experience. And to top t it off, I had to go across the street to a gas station to get some cash because they dont take plastic. I will not be going to the Beeline cafe again. I should have hit a drive through instead of this place.

This place has become a tradition after our yearly Christopher Creek camping trip. Located next to the Big O Tires on the 87 in Payson, the Beeline wont disappoint. Like every good breakfast place, its packed on Sundays. The food is worth the wait though. Classic american fare, decent prices, and the perfect portion to nurse your hangover. They only take cash or checks, and have an ATM on site.

I was driving through town when I figured this would be a good place to stop at for some good comfort food. I wasn't disappointed with the yummy pork chops, creamy mashed potatoes, delicious soup, and small town friendly service. Most of the patrons there seemed to be regulars as they were engaged in conversations with other local patrons and the staff at the place. It's nothing fancy, but they have good food, at fair prices, and the piece of pie I took home with me was gobbled up quickly.

WARNING! No breakfast after 11am. Got in the door at 11:10 on a Sunday morning. Got a table 10 min later. Sat down and the drink lady asked what to drink. The gf said coffee and I said coffee and water with no ice and... Before I finished my sentence with "no lemon" she walked away. That's right, she walked away mid-sentence. Of course, she delivered my water WITH lemon. We picked our breakfasts from the breakfast menu we were given. The waitress came over to the table next to us and asked if they wanted separate checks. They said "yes" And she took their order. Minutes later she came to our table and we ordered our breakfast. She said we had the wrong menu, took it from us and returned with a menu with no breakfast on it. She said breakfast was over. We wanted breakfast (it was 11 am on Sunday morning fer chrise sakes) so we got up to leave. As we passed the ladies who wanted separate tickets, there were getting their breakfasts delivered to their table! We complained that we were given breakfast menus and sat and waited to order, but they said they couldn't do breakfast even though they made a mistake. We went around the corner to the 260 Cafe (after consulting Yelp) and had a marvelous breakfast.

Love this place! I HIGHLY recommend you ask for Linda she is amazing! Note to self: if you don't like being picked on or you can't take a joke don't ask for her... She jokes and picks on you all the time. Also, she is an amazing server very helpful.

After a short wait a server comes to the table to take our order. Problem one. No one had given us a menu. Finally time to order. I ask the server if I can have my chef salad tossed. She replies, the cook will not do that. Really. I guess it takes a brain surgeon to toss a salad. I passed on ordering anything. The prices seemed reasonable. The server was more interested in entertaining some little kid that seeing if we needed any more coffee or anything else.

Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.
