No thanks. There is only one game in town in Florence, and it's called Jalapeños. No doubt about it.

We had lunch here a couple of years ago and were pleased and impressed so came back for an early dinner. On a Sunday night it was not busy though a half dozen tables came in at the same time as we did. I asked about wine and they have a white and two reds. My cabernet was Bogle which is ok. This place does serve beer and mixed drinks too. Our server was friendly and efficient and others assisted her. The chips were not as good as we remembered: low on salt and harder to bite into. Salsa was very hot but clearly home made. We remembered the flour tortillas fondly and I think they are still good. The beans are still pretty good. My beef tortilla was ok but it was mixed in with the side of beans and side of rice and the lettuce didn't have a close relationship to the hard shell. The beef enchilada was ok with a red sauce that was not overly spicy, cheese that was not evenly distributed and spicy beef. I think the kitchen was efficient enough but the place wasn't busy. This is a locals place. Everyone else was greeted by multiple staff as they arrived. I overtipped based on service not food quality.

Good food, good prices. Flavorful rice, delicious, fresh unique salsa, local Florence family recipes. They have burgers and salads, but I always go for the Mexican food. Their Mexican food is topped with shredded lettuce, sliced olives, tomatoes and cheese. Beer & wine is now available.

Made a mistake...thought this was the place I had been before several years back. It was not. The food was poor, they added on for sour cream, sauce on my burrito, beans, etc. the bill doubled. No mention of any additional costs by the waitress. The service was equally lacking. They simply didn't seem to care or be happy to be working there. Upon leaving...realized the place I meant to go was only two blocks farther up the street.

We go for the fresh tortillas, and sometimes just buy those and nothing else. The place is a hole in the wall with charm, and the food is good - but the tortillas are AWESOME.

We went with a large group of people. I called ahead and they had a table set up for us - service is very, very good. We were promptly served our drinks, along with chips and salsa. I liked the chips and salsa a lot. I ordered a chile relleno and enchilada plate. It was enough to feed at least two people. The chile relleno was kind of weird ... like chile strips and cheese mixed together and fried up in a batter - it was OK but way too much cheese for me. Same with the enchiladas - great sauce and tortillas, but very heavy on the cheese. Next time I will order the enchiladas and ask for onion and light on the cheese.

Love OP for breakfast and the American food. The Mexican food isn't that great honestly. It's bland. Lacking in flavor. Get: Turkey Club, Blue Cheese/Green Chile Burger, Pancake Sandwich, Mexican Pizza (only Mexican thing I recommend). The salsa is sweet, but definitely not hot. Service is hit or miss.

Very friendly service and decent Mexican food. My friend and I were not looking for a complete lunch. She had already eaten and I was on the road. She ordered ice cream and was surprised to see how big the portions were. I ordered the chile relleno off the a la carte menu and was surprised to get a plate of that along with rice and beans. The waiter explained that it was a mistake from the kitchen and I wasn't going to get charged for it. The chile had a thinner coating than I expected, but it was tasty. One big minus: I think the tortilla was store bought.

We stopped in Old Pueblo for lunch on a road trip. Having never actually stopped in Florence before, I thought (like many do) that the prison is the only game in town. That may be mostly true, but at least there is some delicious food. Old Pueblo gave us some of the best road trip food we've had -- and maybe just all around great food. Michael had a burrito that was so good he finished it and immediately ordered a second and ate that one too. I had some nice enchiladas. In addition to the food, the restaurant is cheerful and comfortable and the service also top notch from our lovely waitress from Milwaukee. We had a great lunch!

During a random Sunday morning drive from their new house, my dad and I were hungry for breakfast- lacking many options, we found old Puebla, which judging from all the cars was either the best food ever...or the only joint in town. Turns out- it's just about both! The menu was as expected, complete with tex/Mex breakfast favourites like chicken fried steak, dumplings and huevos rancheros. My tamales and eggs were tasty, clearly homemade by someone's grandmother! But not amazing. A typical greasy spoon, but strong coffee and extremely friendly service makes this place a solid choice for breakfast...especially given the lack of options in the area!

Great service, medium-to-warm salsa with the chips. Red beef tamales knocked my socks off. Love rural AZ Mexican food! Will definitely return.

Best Mexican food in a town full of Mexican Food, throw in great service on top of that and you get a home town favorite. If you want to eat where the locals do, then OP is a sure bet for a great meal.

Well, after recently moving into the area, I decided to venture into Old Pueblo and see what it was all about for myself. I ended up having a very pleasant experience. The chips and salsa were just ok, but their shredded beef tacos were cooked to order, and they were great. I also had a cheese enchilada, which was ok, but not spectacular. Overall, I was happy with the food, but the service was outstanding! Ivan was my waiter, and he was very polite, prompt, and just seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Also, they have a nice breakfast menu, which they serve all day, so I will definitely be back. I think this place offers what you would want in a small town Arizona cafe, nothing fancy, with a combination of Mexican food, and American food on the menu, an understated decor, and really nice people. If you haven't given them a try, I recommend that you do when you are in town.

I just moved here about a month ago and me and a friend decided to try out old pueblo .. being a mexican i had pretty high expectations and yup when we got our carne asada plate we were very disappointed.. the meat still had blood on it. The meat was very tough and it was served with a bunch of chile and tomato hardly any meat thankfully though since it waas still oozing out blood.. the only good thing was the sprite we drank.. customer service was great though.. but it deserves no stars .. sorry

Had breakfast this morning with 3 adults and a small child. Food was very good, good waitress, but the kitchen was quite slow. Would definitely go back again and try lunch and dinner.

This place is honestly kept in business by close friends that don't want to tell the owner the food is horrible. The staff is attentive and very nice but I honestly didn't finish my appetizer or main course. I only left a tip because they were so nice to me. Hope they turn things around

My guy really likes this place, I guess he's been here a couple of times after early mornings at the rangle. This is just the first time I came with him to this particular establishment. It was noon 12/21/14 and it was busy, but hey, they serve breakfast all day. So I had "Homemade tamale and eggs" The staff is really nice. Chips were ok, would have been really good if they were warm, the homemade sala was pretty good but you get a very small amount for the amount of chips your given. I asked for my eggs soft scrambled, not because I like undercooked eggs but because I don't like dry omlet like overcooked eggs. I always order them the same and I get them back correct about 5% of the time. This time my food came and my eggs looks plastic, thats how overcooked they were, and I guess that most everyone else seems ok with eggs like that and bully for them, I don't complain about my eggs though, I just assume they will be wrong and I don't eat them when they turn out the way I assume (and almost do) they will. About 3 minutes after we were all served out food though the waitress came over and said I realized you asked for soft scrambled eggs so I had them make you some separate ones. this is unprecedented, its literally never happened to me before EVAR. AND they were perfect!!! Small portions, especially for the prices, but I guess I'd go back, its not like you have a lot of options while out that way. Because of the homerun on my eggs.... my guy WAY overtipped.

Great service and yummy food! Place was packed and we had to wait but definitely worth it! I had the Chorizo Skillet and Roger had Steak and Eggs.

This is a chips, salsa and margarita review only. Salsa is 4 stars. Chips get 2 stars. Margaritas took an eternity to make and seemed to be limeaid, orange juice and a whisper of tequila. But the service... Ugh. 30 minutes to get our margaritas with maybe five other tables present (one who left because the waitress never came). Next door at L&B, the margaritas took less than 5 minutes (though their salsa is inferior).

I agree with several other reviews that the food could use a lot more seasoning but it was A-ok. The server was very friendly and the food was reasonably fast. The portions were good and the prices fair. The place looked clean and since I am stuck in Florence for work, it is a good little mexican food place to have nearby. I had the sredded beef burrito with green enchilada sauce. My two coworkers had the taco salads and said they were good as well. The chips and salsa were good as well!

Torture, as defined by Webster is the act of deliberately inflicting pain, which is exactly what I did Saturday. With #19 molar in need of an immediate extraction, I came here anyway, throbbing tooth and all. Big mistake. The pre-meal tortilla chips were difficult to resist, igniting nothing short of a masochistic dining event. The menudo was white and bland as hell, but the tripe was perfectly cooked. My wife's flauta's were crunchy enough to send me through the rafters with each torturous, but delicious bite. The only thing I could wolf handily was her refried beans and some handmade flour tortillas which were too, too good. I looked like Senator McCain after eating here, but it was worth it.

Came to Florence for business. Had already been given suggestions by co-workers to go to L&B or Jalapeño but the person at our destination recommended Pueblo. Thinking that they would know best we decided to give it a try. However, I am now thinking we should have gone to her highest recommendation which was the Greek place. The restaurant was packed and we were given three options of where to sit. We shared a long table with four other guests. Immediately we overheard them complaining to the waitress about their wait time for the food. The server responded, "The meat is raw and it takes time to cook." Then two minutes later she walked out with a cheese crisp with some severely shredded meat so I was slightly confused. Then the waitress told one of the patrons there was no chicken. I thought, why didn't she tell him when he ordered not when his table was getting their food. We ended up with the same waitress. She said, "What would you like? Anything but chicken." I ordered carne asada and my co-worker ordered machaca. We were told prior to ordering by the hostess that it takes a while to cook those two meals. We weren't in a hurry. After we placed out order we thought maybe we should've said we wanted chicken and leave. To the food: rice was mush (as other yelpers stated). The machaca meat I think was shredded beef jerky, extra salty. Kind of tasted "funny." My co-worker only took a few bites then threw in the napkin. My bad for thinking the carne asada was a steak plate like it said in the menu description because it was fajitas. Over cooked vegetables and really confused on what the meat was. I had a few more bites and then had enough. The wait staff obviously has a lack of pride for their employer and showed it in their faces especially when two parties of six came in when we were paying our bill and the person who was setting up the tables made a face right in front of everyone. Bottom line is I would definitely bypass Pueblo and try some where else....Greek anyone?

Service was a little slow but everybody was super nice and the food was delicious. Homemade tortillas, really greasy and yummy homemade chips. I had the eggschilada with hash browns. Cheesy gooey eggy goodness

The service isn't bad, the food is okay. What I find disappointing is they do not have a lot of vegetarian options for breakfast. The refried beans are made with lard, which I cannot eat, and the only way to get a veggie omelet is to order a cheese omelet and add vegetables for an additional $1.99. I dont know if it's good as I'm not paying $10 for it. Unfortunately, they're pretty much the only game in town for breakfast, and they know it.

We stopped just before noon and it was a good thing. The place filled up with the locals. The salsa was good, chips ok. The beef enchilada had a good flavor and just enough heat. The rice was fair and the beans had a good flavor but salty. The portion size is huge. The chimichanga is enough for two people. There is nothing pretentious about this place but the food is decent.

We went to the Renaissance Festival and didn't want to stop and get fast food so we googled local restaurants and there weren't many choices. We stopped here and that was a huge mistake. The place wasn't very busy but it took almost an hour to get our food. When it finally arrived, one plate was wrong and my son never received his. The waitress blamed the slow service on the diabetic cook. The lady who rung us up said the ktichen wasn't slow and proceeded to tell us our waitress didn't even put our entire order in after all. We heard other tables complaining about the service too, many of them appeared to be locals. Sad that in a local, small place like this the team cannot even get along and shifts the blame back and forth. Besides the service, I tasted nothing special about the food and would never return.

The place is small with a diner feel to it. The waitress Mayra was very friendly and recommended the enchiladas. I am not usually a fan of the enchilada - but she was so enthusiastic I ordered them. I was not disappointed! The shredded beef was very favorable, tasted like pot roast. The cheese enchilada was delicious! The sauce was good, salsa is homemade and very good with a little bit of a kick. We are glad we stopped here!

The food here is pretty good, and it is a welcome departure from the bland Mexican chain restaurants in the phoenix area. Old Pueblo is pretty small, and it is always quite crowded, but it has a nice small town feel to it.

While on a business trip to Florence, and friend recommended 2 Mexican food restaurants in Florence. I've tried the other place (L & B Inn), so I thought I try this one. Bad choice. I had the red chili burrito with a side of rice. The red chili sauce was awful, and the rice was mushy and wet. I would definitely recommend L & B over Old Pueblo, at least for red chili burritos. There was a pretty good crowd in the place, so they must be doing something right. But not right by me.

Had the enchiladas - cheese and shredded beef - and some mini chimichangas which were both good. Salsa is fresh and tasty. Friendly service. Will be back next time I'm in Florence!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
