Tasty bbq at decent prices. The pulled pork was tender with good smoky flavor, and the hot link sandwich had a hearty portion of sausage in it. The pulled pork comes drizzled with their regular bbq, which was a little too sweet for me. When I mixed it with some spicy bbq sauce they provided to us though, it tasted better. Service was fast and friendly, and there is a self serve soda fountain for unlimited refills. I'll have to come here again to try some brisket!

My family and I stopped here thanks to Google and the food was amazing. We were skeptical at first but we were amazed when the food came. Salad was great and fresh and the chicken and ribs were amazing. Try this place people. We are out of town ers from Cali and this place is better than Lucilles.

Excellent food, great atmosphere for friends and family. The beef brisket was epic. I'd recommend for everyone!!

We just bought meat by weight and got pulled pork, brisket, and hot links. All were solid but not exceptional, and the service was quit friendly.

On our way to the Grand Canyon! We stop at flagstaff and wondering what to eat . We seen this play and of course.... I yelp look at the reviews and ... I got to say this is good tasting food hands down the best . Not a fan of ribs but my plate was delicious this is an awesome place. Great place to watch a game. I got to say I will be coming here soon.

YUMMY YUM YUM!!! Hickory's Smokehouse BBQ is great! The sauce is sweet, but blends with the brisket perfectly. All of the sides were very good. My favorites included the fried okra, the mac and cheese and the sweet potato tater tots. Not that the service is slow, but they also have an assortment of games to play while waiting for the food. I highly recommend this place!

Spectacular BBQ! Even the sides were amazing! We had the baby backs and smoked beans and Mac n cheese! Best sides I have ever had at a BBQ place! The guy who took our order was so kind and accommodating! Great ambiance and friendly people make this a must for BBQ when in Flag!! Big thumbs up!!

This was my first visit to this place. Inside it looks like a sports place with a few tv's around but open seating so when there are big parties in the place especially with kids and the tv's, it can get LOUD. They do offer beer and wine which is a plus. The food is ok. I had the ribs with a side of cole slaw as well as mac and cheese. The ribs had a good sauce and did come off the bone with little effort but they were very dry almost over done, there was no juiciness at all. The cole slaw was good and the mac and cheese, not what I was expecting but very good. The noodles are more like rigatoni noodles in a cream sauce with cheese on top. This was really good. This was all I found in town as far as BBQ goes and it does seem to be a popular place, I just wish the ribs had more taste to them other then dry with a lot of sauce. Sauce does not make up for the dry taste of over cooked food, sorry. I say however if you are in Flagstaff and looking BBQ, give this place a chance and leave your review.

My husband and I just had our rehearsal dinner here and we absolutely loved it. We had gone up there to do a tasting and everything provided was absolutely phenomenal. Once we got the dinner started (buffet style) the food just kept on coming. They aren't like other restaurants that claim buffet only give everyone one trip. We really enjoyed communicating with their Manager Andrew C. as well as one of the owners named Sam. At the end of the night everyone was extremely full and satisfied, they even boxed (about 30 of them) the rest of the food for us to take with us. Who has ever heard of a buffet doing that? We would love to do this again, but we are only planning on getting married once. My husband even had some family from North Carolina (famous for their BBQ) and they all said that the food was great!

We finally tried Hickory's a few nights ago. Hubby had a brisket sandwich and I had a pulled pork sandwich. The meat in each was very tender but not very flavorful - as other reviewers noted, there was no evidence or taste of the "smokehouse" in their name. The potato salad was a strange concoction of potatoes & onions covered in mayo & pepper. On the plus side, the BBQ sauce and sweet potato tots were tasty. Service was good. Somehow, the decor and atmosphere seemed a little generic without any genuine BBQ joint feel. Maybe it was the big screen TVs with sports (muted) and top 40 music playing. There's better BBQ in town, so it's unlikely I'll be back.

We went here a few weeks ago on a "whim" after searching for a place to eat in Flagstaff. What a great find! The BBQ was one of the best we have had in the state of AZ, and we only wish we lived closer to Flagstaff so we could make Hickory's one of our regular BBQ places. The gal at the front counter was very nice and helpful with helping us make up our minds, and although they were closing early on a Friday night (it was Halloween), we did not feel rushed or as if we were not welcome. GREAT BBQ and FRIENDLY service at decent prices.

Good food and really good service. We went to Hickory's Smokehouse for my 10 year old daughter's birthday. We have search for good BBQ since we moved from Alabama. My 4 star rating breaks down as follows: The food rates 3 stars and the service rates 5 stars... Averaged out that makes 4 stars. Our family of four decided to share two full racks of ribs. We also ordered fries to go with the ribs. The ribs we very tender and had good taste. They use a very good dry rub before cooking then add a wet sauce. The rub is very good but the wet sauce is a little sweet, too sweet for my taste. However, they don't coat the ribs with the sauce, but they but a bottle of sauce on the table so you add more if you desire. The service was great, almost too good. When we were there it wasn't very crowded, that allowed the staff to come to our table often to check on us. Towards the end it seemed like they were coming by our table every two or three minutes! Any more and I would be complaining, but as it was it was not too much. The price was a bit expensive as most BBQ places are, but it wasn't over the top. Overall it was a positive experience and I wouldn't be surprised if we to back again.

The food, atmosphere, and service was excellent. Hot links was awesome. Clean modern feel makes for a great lunch or dinner date.

The brisket is tender, juicy and free of hormones. I could taste the difference. The sweet potato tots are out of this world. The barbecue sauce is unique with a hint of citrus. The staff, friendly and inviting. Some of the best BBQ I have had. This place rocks, definitely coming back again.

Went there two nights in a row and they were out of brisket! The second night I called at 5:50pm and was told they had brisket. When we got there at 6:30pm they told us they were out of brisket! Not sure how a restaurant can be out of brisket and say they are open until 10pm! We were really upset and ended up going to Bigfoot BBQ and liked that place.

Absent the name-brand BBQ restaurants which Flagstaff doesn't have, the Smokehouse sells the best BBQ in Flagstaff in my opinion. The one-star reviews here baffle me. Don't believe them. I've had better at Famous Dave's in Phoenix or Memphis BBQ in Las Vegas, but the Smokehouse is quite good. And the service was impeccable.

Delicious! Nice atmosphere...there are big TVs with sports, but the sound is off and music is playing. Yummy yummy food. Not a chain! And the meat is hormone free. Did I mention sweet potato tater tots!!! Awesome. :).

Delicious food, amazing beef, chicken, pork, and sides. Great and polite waiters, great service, good for all ages, and well priced.

Brisket was cold and flavorless. This place is for watching the big TVs. Not for good food.

  • Maynard G.

Friendly, and the ribs were pretty good. Brisket is very good, but ask for the fatty brisket, if that's what you like, like I do.

Pretty darn tasty. Awesome service and very, very clean...especially for a bbq joint. We loved it. Wish they had one open in Phoenix. :D

I am a huge BBQ type of guy. Love it, but I didn't love this place. The meat was no better than a grocery store. The food I felt was over priced, and the bbq sauce wasn't as good as it could have been. Place was clean so I'll give it 2 stars. But if you want a good BBQ establishment, go elsewhere.

  • Gavin F.

We stopped in yesterday for dinner and enjoyed the food. It was simple, straightforward, no frills BBQ with plenty of flavor and good taste. We all had the pulled pork sandwiches, which were just the right size with having to gorge ourselves. The tots were extra tasty with the dusting of brown sugar. One kid had the mac and cheese and had a hearty enough portion that could have been split for the two of them. This is good place to go if you want BBQ, without fighting the crowds of downtown.

Service is good and fast. Not a very big place kinda like a jimmy johns of BBQ. Food was good but was served warm not hot and seemed like it was made a while before being served to us..

I love southern food, home cookin, barbecue, etc. So I was really excited in the fall months when this place was getting ready to open. This place, however, sucks a lot. No, the food is not totally nasty or anything, but the one star is deserved. I came here for the first time, ordered a half-chicken with sides of beans and cole slaw. As another reviewer said, this stuff is not even smoked. (It appears they do not have a smoker.) The menu did not specify that it was BBQ chicken (I assumed it was), so I asked, and the employee said that "we put BBQ sauce on it." The spicy pinto beans and slaw was absolutely mediocre -- I could not finish the beans, and I am one of those people that always cleans the plate. My friends had opted for the cheaper option -- sandwich and side -- pulled pork and chicken, with mac and cheese and fries, respectively. A mediocre lunch portion will run you $10 with tax, not including tip. The sandwiches were mostly bread, with little meat. The mac and cheese was pretty good, and the fries were pretty good. (I tried it). The food quality is 2-3 stars. The place is new, and the ambiance is pretentious and post-modern. It is way, way overpriced. It's every stereotypical trait you would expect for a new restaurant trying to pimp itself out to the public. For the same price, you can get the same amount of food at Satchmo's. Let me repeat myself: you can spend the same amount of money at Satchmo's and get the same amount of food. The only difference is that Satchmo's is far and away the best BBQ in town, and I thought it was more pricey then it ought to be, but after being at the "smokehouse" I don't feel the same way. Also, you can spend less money at Bigfoot, and still get objectively better food (though not quite as good at Satchmo's). Will never, ever go here again.

The experience when we walked in was great but that's were it ended. The service was terrible, the lady up front lost our order, and we watched her dig through the trash to try and find it before she re-took our order about 20 minutes after we made our original order. After we finally got our food it was in to go boxes when both time we told them it was for dine in. The food was okay, but the brisket was pretty dry and you could tell the fries had been sitting around for a while (cold and stale). If I want BBQ in Flagstaff i'll make the drive to satchmo's or bigfoot.

  • Justin N.

Bland Brisket, Bland Pulled pork, and soupy potato salad, this food is overpriced for the poor quality that it is. Where's the smoke?, I am willing to bet that if they even use a smoker it is some little electric job. There is no talent behind this place and this is not BBQ.

    (1)
  • Kevin J.

Not very good, ribs were hard as a rock, chicken wasn't even smoked, looked like it was boiled. Smokehouse on the name yet no smoke. Was very disappointed.

The first time I tried HSBQ it was very good. Macaroni & Cheese was to die for. Unfortunately now, there seems to be a down turn in the food. Almost no cheese in the macaroni & cheese, brisket has no flavor, and the pulled pork was very tough, almost un-chewable.

  • M S.

Kid loved pulled pork. Brisket was good too.

I made my first visit to Hickory's today. If you are looking for high end dining, there are a lot of other places in Flagstaff, try one of them. IF on the other hand you are looking for a relaxed, down scale, very clean atmosphere then the Hickory is right for you. It would be a great for kids. You order at the counter from a menu on the wall. The menu is straight forward and simple. I suggest the combos because you get a drink and one side. I tried the brisket sandwich, with a side of Mac & Cheese. The order came out very quickly. The server checked a couple of times to make sure that I was doing okay. It was lunch, so I did not try the beer, but it appears that there are several on tap. The brisket was great, the BBQ sauce was pretty good. The Mac & Cheese was to my liking. The serving sizes were good. I plan on trying this place again, so expect another report.

First time here. Cute place. Relaxed and the guys were all friendly and attentive. I had the Brisket sandwich and Mac n cheese. Very yummy! Husband had the ribs...he wasn't complaining! We'll definitely come back when we're in Flagstaff again!

Came here from out of town on our way to The Grand Canyon. Small quaint place with a very friendly staff. Very fair prices. I make a lot of BBQ and have eaten BBQ from some of the world's best competition professionals. Hickory's I must say is pretty darn good. Had the ribs, pork, and brisket. Ribs and brisket had nice smoke ring and not over rubbed or smoked. Didn't care for the pulled pork, however, as it was a bit mushy for me. Good cornbread, and the tots were interesting and different. The bbq sauce was just ok and a wider selection of flavors would be nice. Overall, a good experience and would recommend for some authentic bbq.

Killer Chopped Brisket Sandwich! Great staff too! Prices are very reasonable for vacation town. I will be returning as soon as we're back in the area.

I found the place Yelp. I had driven all day and ws beat. I found the restaurant thru Yelp's search by resturarnt type. It was long shot but when you have a hunch you play it right? The front counter guy was friendly and explained how they cooked their BBQ. I got the 1/2 rack of BBQ pork, sweet potatoes and slaw. The ribs we excellent!!. I'm bringing it down to 4/5 because I expected sweet potato fries but what they service is kind of fritter with brown sugar. It tasted better than it sounds but was just ok. The slaw - I alwys compare to KFC. I like KFC's sweet sauce. Their slaw was ok but I left half of it. The RIBS WERE GREAT! That's what I go out for so the end of the day if the Ribs are good I'll come back. If I'm ever in Flagstaff again.

Awesome staff, the young man behind the counter was very helpful and kind. The food was wonderful and very filling. We are not from the area and doing you guys on Yelp! Will be back again when we are in town!

Had the pulled pork, potato salad, and beans. All were delicious and homemade. As a southerner, I am hard to please when it comes to bbq, but I was pleasantly surprised. The pulled pork was cooked to perfection, great smoky taste. The sauce was nothing special, but the meat was good enough that it didn't matter as much. Also, we received excellent if not over zealous customer service. I have to wonder if any of the people that complained about their food in their reviews actually bothered to just ask their waiter to remedy the situation any one of the 8 times they checked on them.

My fiancé and I came from out of town to spend the Memorial Day weekend in flagstaff . This was one of the places my fiancé had looked up and thought we should try. We also wanted to try something new while we were on vacation and plus we both love barbecue. The counter where you order is very close to the door and as a line starts to form you are left in a entry way .Which makes it very difficult to see the menu as your waiting and hard to not be in the way for people leaving . After getting up to the counter for our turn to order we then get told they have ran out almost everything on their menu . Which to begin with their menu isn't very big . So I ordered a half rack of ribs, sweet potato tots and the borracho beans . My fiancé's choice of what was left was the pulled chicken ,the potato tots and beans also . After paying I went to get a booth and my finances went to get our drinks and come to find out they are also completely out of ice . As you can imagine at this point we weren't impressed ! After receiving our food it didn't really get much better .My ribs were very dry luckily adding more sauce helped a little and the tots were too sweet for my taste but my fiancé liked them . All in all we were very disappointed and we will not be revisiting this restaurant on future trips .

Pork ribs are the best I've ever had. Pulled pork and brisket are good. The link is decent. The sides leave something to be desired. The cornbread muffin isn't good. The service is always friendly. GET A FULL RACK! You'll thank me later.

Been here 2x now and both times it was delicious! I would stick to the pulled pork and ribs, the brisket was a little dry. Maybe an off day? But it deserves 4 stars for the following reasons; - amazing sides! Beer battered fries, cole slaw ( yummy vinegar based dressing ), beans are phenomenal and their Mac and cheese was pretty damn good as well, all homemade. - awesome customer service , always being checked on, to see if we needed anything else - nice local draft beer selection -nice size portions Next time in flag give it a shot! They also have a few tv's to catch some sports

Cold, tasteless pulled chicken bbq sandwich, store bought BBQ sauce, bland sweet potato tots, cold atmosphere, weird that you order when you walk in then sit down. Brought my boyfriend from Australia and it was disappointing that this was one of his first American BBQ experiences.

Great bbq, sides are all good. Prices are a bit high, but portions are big. No atmosphere. 10 minute wait for a pickup order. Prefer Big Foot or Satchmos for variety and convenience.

Had my son's High School grad party catered by Hickory Smokehouse BBQ because it is one of my favorite restaurants in town. As always, the food was excellent. Ordered sliced brisket, chopped brisket, pulled pork, mac-n-cheese, and their boracho beans. Fed 45 people and had tons of left overs, even though everyone went back for more. They came and set up the food with the sterno fire underneath, gave plenty of side sauces and pickles. The price was very reasonable. (A little over $7 per person, even though they don't charge that way). The delivery man, "Josiah" was personable and did a great job. He even gave me his cell # in case we needed anything else, he would be right over. Everyone wanted to know where the food came from and were delighted with how awesome this bbq was. Want to say thank you Hickory! My son's party was a success with your help. LOVED IT!!!

Generally speaking, good bbq and staff. My 3rd time here. This time, food was not hot. Brisket was room temp and so was mac and cheese. Sent mac back to get warmed up. They forgot to bring it back and when finally reminded, it was not hot again. One bright note, corn on cob was excellent.

While visiting from Tucson I decided to try out the Q here in Flagstaff at Hickory's. Very friendly staff, decent beer selection and really quality food. I had the ribs (my benchmark) and found them to be chewy, tender and meaty with a good dose of smokiness without being cloying. The cole slaw and mac and cheese were homemade (apparently potato salad is as well and likely most if not all of the sides) and while nothing to necessarily write home about, they were good quality and complimented the ribs very nicely.

Great!!! My boyfriend and I were thoroughly impressed!!! They were tasty and reasonably priced and beer and soft shirts! Why aren't they in Tucson?!!!?!?!!?!

The staff was friendly and the place was clean. That's really the only good thing I can say. The chicken I ordered was dry and old, I had to use half the bottle of bbq sauce just to get it down. My girlfriend ordered the half rack if ribs and it was the same story.. definitely not going back!

**UPDATE** I have been to Hickory's a few times since my review and have received an incorrect order twice. I posted this on my review and someone from the staff contacted me to correct the issue! This is amazing service that ALL Flagstaff businesses should learn from! Make sure you stop by! The Short: A 'uniquely' Flagstaff BBQ joint that tries to make brisket an upperclass food. The Pros: - Classy yet simplistic decor. - Dedication given to food. *Example* Brisket has a mop sauce made from apple juice and served on an artisan bun.* - Quality ingredients. - Attentive customer service. - Distinctive BBQ style. - BEEEEEEEEER! - Homemade sides. The Cons: - Expensive (Two people cost $28. Now I have to call my dad for extra cash.) - Unique BBQ style isn't for everyone. Best Item(s): - Brisket sandwich (love that mop sauce) with fries. - Ribs with macaroni. Interesting Fact: My dad didn't have any money so now I have to ask my Yelp followers for cash. Let me look at my Yelp friends list ... My dad is my only friend ... Crap.

You're not going to find a lot of smoke flavor in pit barbecue style food, which is why the name is a little surprising -- not that I'm complaining. The pulled pork and brisket are tender and flavorful. The borracho beans have a little bite to them, the fried okra is quite good, and the mac and cheese leave nothing to be desired. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect of a renovated Pizza Hut, though the lighting is better, and the food far superior.

  • Kristina S.

Great food! Stopped on the way through town as they were closing -- impressed with the friendly service, yummy brisket sandwiches and corn! Would likely give five stars but didn't try enough items this go around :) As a much appreciated bonus, the meat is all hormone free - yay!! It would be cool if this was a little better advertised :)

Very friendly staff and great BBQ. I had the pulled pork sandwich my partner had pulled chicken sandwich and our kid also had the pulled pork sandwich. Can't wait to come back up the hill to try the rest of the menu.

This was a great bbq joint! Great service. Wood pile in the corner. Kitchen filled with beautiful smoke. Just the simplest of barbecued pulled pork sandwich was delicious and I highly recommend the sweet potato tots.

The staff was the best. I thoroughly enjoyed the food. The flavor took me back home to Texas! I had the ribs, brisket, and hot links... They were the best I wish I would have found this when I got to the city... I'll definitely be going back before I leave. .

Pretty good, sauce a bit sweet for me but decent portions compared to bigfoot. I'd go back. I think the meat is not very well seasoned. More is needed for the flavor. Not bad though. Good service too.

Was on Flagstaff for my daughter soccer tournament and stopped here before we headed home. Let's just say the food was amazing It had great flavor we tried the baby back ribs and brisket. On top of amazing food they are super nice and came and asked if we needed anything multiple times!

First timer from out of town and tried this place based on the reviews here on yelp (4 stars). We ate in. The wife's meal was the half chicken, the meat was so dry it really should have been eaten in the rain. Really no flavor. I had a bite of her corn bread muffin which was extremely dry also. My meal was actually pretty decent.. I had the Beef Brisket sandwich w/ a side of Mac & Cheese which was good. Had a pint of Alaskan Amber which was not cold enough for me. The pluses were, they subbed her meal with pork ribs even though they seemed a little put out. The other, was the customer service was good except for the sub issue. I also liked the board game section (monopoly, fact or crap, scattergories) etc. I know it had nothing to do foodies, but it just appealed to me. Hope they can fix a few things.
