My husband and I ate dinner there last night and it was one of the best meals we ever had! We have to give our compliments to the Chef Jake. We had 2 different chicken dishes. I had Chicken and pasta and my husband had the weekly special mushroom stuffed chicken. After the very sweet waitress told Jake how much we loved his food he came out to say Hi and thank us and tell us more about the dishes. He said he foraged the mushrooms himself! This young chef obviously loves what he does and has a passion for it. You can taste it in his wonderful dishes. They were also offering bottles of wine to purchase for your meal. It was Canyon Road a California vineyard. We got the Pinot Noir, and loved it! Well as you can see we were happy with our dining experience and wish Jake the best of luck in his career. Navajo taco should be called Navajo Tostada. Kind of like an elephant ear with taco dressing on it. Seemed ok and worth a try. Sounds more interesting with the zagat recommendation. The food was good but the services was not. There were only a couple of people in there when we went in for breakfast. We ordered the Navajo Taco, French Toast, and Pancakes. It took forever to get our drinks (tea and coffee) and then took a really long time to get our food. The waitress was not interested in being there. When she brought our bill, she didn't bother to clear away any of our dirty plates. When she came back to pick up the credit card she still didn't clear anything. I'm giving it three stars because the food was good but the staff sure could use some training.

The only times I really eat here is for munchies with drinks. The nachos and sliders are the best! But on occasion, on days that I crave French onion soup, this is where I can get it! Tons of good crusty and bubbly cheese with the delish onion broth that is flavorful and never want of seasoning. It comes with the house brown bread that is so good. It sounds silly, but they have tomato salad dressing that I LOVE, and so my usual meal is the soup and a salad. An excellent meal at that!

Went there for lunch with my visiting parents who usually expect great food whenever they come up to Flag, but not so at Charly's. We were greeted hesitantly by one host who said it would be a wait, then another hostess came up to the stand moments later and claimed she had no idea what he was talking about and sat us right away. Passing numerous empty tables she took us to the other side of the restaurant, the furthest from the entrance and not really part of the main dining area. It was empty. There wasn't even music. That was fine though, as we were sat by a window so the ambience was okay. Our waitress was another story. It seems as though she may not have ever served in a restaurant before. It seems as though she may not have ever EATEN in a restaurant before. Everything she said seemed hesitant. She asked us if we would like something to drink, except she phrased it "Can I get you anything besides water...like...soda?" It was odd to say the least. Water was fast but the two bloody mary's ordered took probably 20 minutes and were mediocre at best. I had to get up and find her to make sure she hadn't forgotten our table since it was way in the back and we not one single employee walked through the area except our waitress (and that was probably 3 times). Food came out, no silverware. Waitress: "Oh, I guess you might need silverware?" What was happening inside her head is beyond me. Food was mediocre. My mom and I had the Navajo Taco which is overpriced and underwhelming. Asked for a side of sour cream. Got it moments before the check (really) from another server. Flag just has such great food and service and an abundance of out of work, quality servers who need jobs. I'm not sure how this waitress was hired but I hope for her sake she's a fast learner.

I give this place 5 stars for service and only 3 stars for the food. They gave us peaches and cream to start with our coffee. And then we ordered the cinnamon pancakes with the eggs, bacon & toast breakfast. the location is great being right in the heart of downtown flagstaff. I may have to come back and try this place for lunch or dinner. The portions are good where you can share the half stack of pancakes.

Wow this place is great! I was in Flagstaff for work and this was a recommendation from my local colleagues. It's located inside the Weatherford Hotel and the decor is beautiful and interesting. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the food and drink. The service was beyond attentive and helpful and both the waiter and host were very friendly. I am vegetarian and gluten-free and while there weren't many options for me, what I ordered was phenomenal. I had a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich without the bun and sweet potato fries. I asked the waiter for a local beer recommendation and that was very good too. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the Flagstaff area!

My two favorite things about Charly's are the Arizona memorabilia on the walls and the second floor balcony that offers great views of Flagstaff. The staff is pretty shitty. Charly's has several bars, one of them had a live band and cover charge, in order to go to a different bar we were told to talk to the hostess. There were three hostess in a deep conversation about boyfriends, it would be rude to interrupt them so we just stared at them until they were ready to help us, good times. My date had some friends in the downstairs bar so we met up with them. We sat there for a good ten minutes and not one employee walked through there so we went upstairs to grab a drink. The bartender up there was bitchy and gave us attitude for trying to use a card to pay for our drinks. We scrounged up the cash and I tipped her with quarters to which she rolled her eyes. I just smiled and said "sorry, we spent it all at the titty bar." Even though I had a one star experience I'm still giving it four because I've had great times at Charly's in the past.

It's a nice place to sit outside with the pooches, but I wasn't too impressed with the food. It was ok, but nothing that memorable. We started with the French onion soup. It was served warm, but I like my soup served hot, very hot, and the temp was just above lukewarm. The broth was tasty, but the onions, well let's just say they were not cut correctly for French onion soup, they were in huge quartered chunks... someone was lazy in the kitchen, then there was the cheese...OMG I think you could have strung it across the street like a rubber band and stopped traffic. Way too much cheese. I love cheese but yowza!! My hubby's chicken sandwich was ok, the bread looked a little anemic, and it was certainly nothing to write home about. The tapenade, however, was quite good, very flavorful and a more than generous portion. I like Charly's bar, we play pool there every now and then and the atmosphere is nice and laid back, I'll just skip the restaurant for a meal, but I may get that tapenade again!

I agree with Ben S.--Charly's falls somewhere between 3.5 and 3.75 stars, but I will bump up the rating for the location and charming, laid-back ambiance. Good pricing on drinks and food, but food was just okay and service was mediocre (I think they were understaffed that evening). It was a busy night, with lots of people on the second floor and they only had one server, who doubled as the bartender and cashier. This place is located within an old, Victorian looking hotel down in the main street area. Very old Americana look and feel to the hotel which was cool. The second floor has an indoor area as well as a wrap-around balcony where it was great to have a drink and look out over the rest of old town flagstaff. They had live music which was another plus. Good experience and a fun hang-out spot!

I called to put in my take out order at 15 minutes till 5 PM. After a few "Ums", "I'm not sure's" and "I'll have to put you on hold", I was told I would have to call back at 5 and put my order in with the bartender: Torrey. I arrived at around 5:05 and my order was submitted by 5:15. My order took around 20 minutes. Not too unreasonable of a wait time. I should have checked the order while still in the restaurant. I was nearly to my destination at a traffic signal when I thought to check my order. They had given me Buffalo Wings instead of the BBQ wings I had ordered. I pulled over and called them. I spoke to Sam, she said to bring the incorrect order back in. I asked her to put in the correct order. I hoped that would reduce the wait time. I arrived around 6:10 to find the order had not been put in. The other bar staff personnel assisted me. Torrey didn't say anything. The corrected order came out at around 6:25 or so. This time I thought to check the container and discovered they had neglected to add the celery and carrots. After this - the wait staff assisting me apologized for the wait. By the time I reached my car it was 6:37 and home it was after 7:00 PM. Nearly two hours later. My husband has GERD and cannot eat this type of meal late. With the exception of the wings all of the other food was cold. We had ordered the mini burgers called sliders, at Charley's specifically because they were described as char-grilled. I sample one on the way home; they tasted pan fried. The chicken wings, while warm, were just ...well...warm. Not hot and they had just come out of the kitchen. Not particularly tender and not cooked in the sauce. I expected a crisp exterior. It appears the wings were pre-cooked, heated and then the sauce applied. The sauce was NOT cooked on the wings. There were exactly 14 of them in the order. That's 6 down from the 20 or so I thought they used to have in their platter. The current time is 7:49 and I'm thinking I might as well put the food in the garbage. I've lived in Flagstaff since 1998. I have come to Charley's a handful of times and have never had a good experience there. Reading through the older reviews it appears the timing of the food delivery, food prep, food storage, drink refilling and the general lack of professionalism on the parts of the wait staff have been pervasive issues at this place. This would be indicative of a need for better management. Coming to think of it I don't believe I can recall the presence of a manager whenever I've been there. I don't imagine the food service manager reads these reviews. That is a shame as it's a great opportunity to get feedback from the diners. The restaurant may have the location going for it, however ,were this my restaurant I would worry about becoming too complacent.

My sister had the fish and chips. She enjoyed the flavor and texture of the fish but I was not impressed with the proportions; two tiny pieces of fish came on a giant pile of fries. My BIL had a Mexican chicken burrito which came smothered in sauce and cheese with a side of tri-colored chips and melted cheese. He said it was "AWESOME!" I had the Reuben. It was MEH. There was a nice proportion of meat/cheese/kraut, unfortunately, the kraut was flavorless. I wouldn't even say half-sour. More like no-sour. I would not go back.

For some reason, Charly's thinks that they're actually Don & Charlie's. Let me tell you something -- they're truly not. Sigh. What to say about Charly's. Or as my ex-wife and I call it, "Chewy's." Charly's food is probably a step above Carl's Jr., but at the price of Don & Charlie's. I haven't been back in about a month and a half, so maybe I'm outdated in this, but the service was piss poor. The tragedy in this was the fact our daughter was graduating N.A.U. and this was our graduation supper. Certainly a memorable one, but for all the wrong reasons. Simply put, there was cotton in the tacos. A $113 meal for four could have been put to better use. Never again. PS-Please spell Charlie without the "Y" because after we finished up, that's all we could keep asking ourselves :)

Having a meal in a historic hotel on any one of 3 floors is fun. The main restaurant is on the main floor, the Gopher Hole is a pub in the basement, and the Zane Grey room is on the top floor with a balcony. Yes, there is outside seating on the balcony. I have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The staff is attentive and helpful with suggestions. The draft beer selections are always interesting. Even though this is not thought of as a Mexican restaurant, their Southwest dishes are really good. We had the Chimmichanga and Fish Tacos. For a special treat, have their HUGE plate of Nachos. Don't order the big one along with a meal unless you have a sizeable group, It makes a great group appetizer with drinks.

We are locals - Food is hit and miss - although outside area is awesome people watching area. Ordered Eggs Benedict on Sunday and the eggs were medium at best - no ozzy egg yolk that should have been there - so sad. Maybe half of the wait staff is decent - the other half clueless. We keep going back because of the patio space - wish we could recommend for the food. Do not sit in the bar for lunch - it will be slow slow slow service.

Charly's is a fun place! They have a small but tasty happy hour menu and the prices are just right. Also lots of things going on during the week. I suggest sitting upstairs and outside. You get a nice view of downtown Flagstaff. Will definitely return!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Charly's! I mostly come here to drink at the bar areas. I have eaten here only one time and it was pretty good, but I can't comment much on the restaurant. However, I have been to the bars here plenty of times and I love it! It's right downtown on a busy corner street which makes for great people watching. I hung out in the bar downstairs a few times where we've had cheap drinks and some free tacos!! Yum! Can't go wrong with free tacos! Here, you can play pool or dance the night away! I mostly come here after bar hopping around and head to the upstairs bar. Sometimes it may have a band or even a wedding reception that is ending in the Zane Grey Ballroom. It is usually really busy, but the drinks are surprisingly cheap. They always have fresh popcorn and there is a huge patio outside to watch the city. Overall, this is a place I must go to every time I'm in Flagstaff! I hope you check it out and like it as much as me!

This review is mainly for the bar areas. I've eaten at the restaurant and it was pretty good, but not great. I'd give the food three stars. What I love to go here for are the bars, particularly the upstairs bar. Very cool scene up there, whether you are inside where it is warm or out on the balcony checking out the heart of downtown Flagstaff. They always seem to have good drink specials, even after happy hour. I've seen people have their wedding reception in the Zane Grey Ballroom upstairs and thought it was a very cool idea. In the mood for dancing, live music, shooting pool, or eating free tacos on Friday night? Check out the bar downstairs. Great scene there too! One of my favorite things about this bar? They have a creeper shot (sneaky photo) of Edward Abbey drinking a beer in the bar from the early '90s, not too long before his death. Very cool. You can find it downstairs near the bathroom.

Overall not impressed. The ambience was one of the only positive parts, which is amazing. My family couldn't get over it, it's a historic building with a nice fireplace. We ate on the main floor in the dining area, there is also a bar upstairs and downstairs with the same menu. Our server was obviously new, he asked us if we wanted dessert when we were still chewing halfway through our meal. I understand new servers but he also had a girl following him around which was awkward because she was never introduced and never debriefed us why they were tag teaming us. Besides the weird service, the food was okay and definitely not worth the price. The salmon I got was overcooked (22$) and the only sides offered are three different kinds of potatoes wtf? And I'm paying for what? The rib eye my dad got was tough, not a good cut, although they did cook it well (24$). My mom got baby back ribs and they were overcooked, wouldn't ever get them again (20$). She pretended they were okay. My dad enjoyed the spinach salad though. Overall would not recommend, unless you want to get a drink and some dessert. Although I ordered a Hendricks and tonic and it tasted like tonic because it was a tall, and an extremely light pour. I was disappointed. Their homemade apple pie was delicious though.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere, great drinks! Instead of going back to Las Vegas after the Grand Canyon, we decided to make the shorter trip to Flagstaff for a night. It was nice and we happened upon Charly's. I was having cheese cravings- not sharp cheeses like Cheddar or Gouda but more of a sweeter cheese like Ricotta or Mozzarella. Charly's Spinach Dip hit the spot. Perfectly creamy, perfectly cheesy and perfectly crispy baguette rounds. The fiance and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Also, Flagstaff was surprisingly colder than we had expected, and we had not planned for that. So I got a Hot Apple Pie (Apple Cider + Tuaca) as we sat by the fire. It was the perfect end to a long day, and a perfect way to counter the cold temperature outside. The service was also fantastic- very nice, not pushy, good advice, very helpful and accommodating, refilled our drinks when necessary, etc. It was a very pleasant experience. My few hours in Flagstaff made me want to stay for the rest of our vacation and Charly's was a good contributor to that.

Charly's wooed me with its period-true exterior in this fabulously old western hotel, then dumped me in the gutter like a wet cigar butt. The food was very expensive and disproportionately mediocre. In fact, it was below the Mendoza line.. I'd have to call it very poor. I suffered through a $10 Navajo taco the meat mixture was as bland as a 1950's cookbook, though the actual fry bread was good. My wife had a crushingly sub-par beef dip. Over cooked and dry, my wife took it and fed it to some grateful reservation dogs later in the day. The service was young and sprite but inefficient. The interior was OK, but done in the inglorious 1970's Victorian-re-do style. Much better choices in beautiful downtown Flagstaff.

Limited space + an itty-bitty shower are completely made up for in kitsch + historic appeal here. This bar/hotel (only 11 rooms!) was the perfect place to stay for a Saturday night in downtown Flagstaff: It's within walking distance of countless bars, little shops + weekend events. Granted, there's limited parking so you have to catch it right, otherwise it's a trek. I wish the weather would've cooperated to enjoy the wrap around porch, but the second floor bar was warm + cozy. The hot chocolate + Bailey's didn't let me down either. I'll definitely be back!

Granted, mine are good but these we're amazing! My wife had the taco salad and her only complaint was the salsa was "too hot" for her. I like spicy and did find it a bit spicy for a salad. I had the sliders and they were excellent. What a fantastic historic building to see when you're visiting Flagstaff. Didn't realize until after we finished, there is also service upstairs in the bar. Another historic building in Flagstaff boasts casual dining and a bar with a pretty neato view of the downtown area. Specific review for the Zane Grey Ballroom patio area, has that wrap around porch/veranda reminiscent of Bourbon Street, three floors up. Being there on a Saturday night, it was PACKED and the waiter service was slow as molasses in January. I ordered a veggie burger (decent, nothing amazing then again always hard pressed to find a stellar Veg Burger) and a side salad (gotta save carb room for drinking!) I felt bad for the waitress as she was the only one serving the upstairs, so needless to say our food took FOREVER, but she was friendly so it was fine. Plus the little bar upstairs was NOT slow, so it was a good time.

Had breakfast here with the beau while on vacation in Flagstaff. Nice setting inside the Hotel Weatherford. The menu was on the small side, but adequate for breakfast -- about 10 or so breakfast offerings and many in a Southwest style. The restaurant (and hotel) are quaintly Victorian with high ceilings, historic photos on the walls and rich carpets and wallpapers. The place was clean and well-staffed. While we waited for our orders the server brought us complimentary shot glasses of canned peaches with whipped cream & a sprinkling of cinnamon. That was a nice, unexpected touch. I got huevos rancheros that were served with a huge, hot fresh flour tortilla the size of a truck steering wheel! The BF ordered some egg dish that came with a HUGE thick, juicy ham steak. Both were excellent and I can't say anything bad about the food. His freshly squeezed OJ was weak and kind of bitter but that happens sometimes with fresh oranges and the server took it back and comped it. All in all, a nice, upscale place for breakfast with interesting street views, solid food offerings and great service.

So I thought maybe it was unusual for people to hit the bar once they turn 21. I must be a crazy person. Too excited to become 21. I like the furniture design. It's so nice! You have not experienced Flagstaff until you go to Charlies! Bring your friends, family and even kids can enjoy the view of the peaks from the Zan Grey balcony upstairs. Their food is amazing and they have tones of drinks to choose from. This is also a great place to take a date to; a nice dinner, live local music & right in the middle of down town flagstaff! It is a very unique laid back kind of place, you won't have to wait in a line to get in or change your shoes cause they have a scuff on them. I came to this restaurant just because I was only here for a night and this place was recommended on Yelp. I am only rating the food here. The service and ambiance was nice, but when I am going to go get something to eat, I want the food to be at least decent. I got the spinach salad and french dip. The salad was $9, and for that price, I expect more than 20 leaves. The eggs tasted a bit old. I wasn't happy about that, but I had to eat it, as when I am on vacation, I have trouble eating veggies, so I had to finish it (not that it was hard because there was so little). The french dip was ok, even if a bit on the salty side. I'd say I'd never eat here again, but that is probably because I'll probably never go to Flagstaff again.

No attitude, no painful sigh, no eye rolling. They helped me with a SMILE. I will always eat at this historic restaurant, and hangout in the awesome upstairs lounge. Great place, great service.

We weren't quite ready to head back to Camp Verde after dinner at nearby Monsoon, so based on a recommendation from our server at Monsoon, we stopped in at Charlie's for a nightcap. We took note that the host at Charley's told one party that there was a 45 minute wait for a dinner table. But anyway, we walked over to the bar section with a jukebox and pool table. I ordered a "hardcore cider". JP had an Alaska Amber Ale. I thought my cider was great (it didn't have that much of a kick though), however JP thought it was kinda sweet. Relaxed environs with speed and friendly table service. Wide variety of clientele. Damn, that one older guy over at the pool table. He sank all his solids before his partner could even take a whack at her stripes.

My girlfriend brought me on a date here and their steak is delicious! A pretty big steak and cooked to order. I loved the au jus sauce that it came with, very flavorful. The mash potatoes was pretty good too. A bit pricey, but it was steak. The big disappointment was the bar. The kilt-lifter was good, but its beer... can't mess that up.. or can you? Their Guinness was super flat and was just not satisfying. The worst pint of Guinness I have ever had. I was also not a fan of their plastic cups that they served our beers in. But.... they have free popcorn!

WE DID NOT EAT HERE! We entered for brunch, it was reasonably busy but empty tables so we stood uncomfortably waiting to be seated. After being ignored repeadly, I told a waitress we wanted a table for two. Were told, to go through and check with the seater - who also was the manager. Waited at the his station, reading menu as he went past us 4-5 times before I finally had to ask him for a table. His answer "It will be about 20 mins". No apologies, no feeling like he ever wanted to sit us, more like we were an inconvenience. Despite having empty tables, they obviously are incapable of handling business. Went elsewhere and had a great coffee and breakfast burrito.

My favorite chill place to go. The crowd is definitely older, no club dancin' here. Lots of local bands come through though and yes, there is dancing. Great service, the bartenders have been all been there for a while. Tasty nachos when you are drinking a bunch of beer. Free popcorn..that's a definite plus. This place is really nice. Great atmosphere in the historic hotel, nice porches and spacious upstairs for dining. Best Navajo taco in town, covered in grilled vegetables. The whole order is more food than anyone should ever eat. Nights often have interesting music, and the bar crowd seems more relaxed than average. I've never seen it overcrowded. I once stopped in after a David Grisman concert at the Orpheum. A group of acoustic musicians were on stage, and shortly after David's back up band arrived with instruments in hand. A great night of music followed. Wish I could bring Charley's down to Tucson. Might be the best bar in Arizona.

Never again! While exploring the downtown area, we were drawn in for lunch by how cool the old building looked. Unfortunately, the historic architecture is where the niceties stopped for us. Our hostess was pleasant, but our waitress was awful, just like the food we were about to get. She brought us waters after taking our orders, and little did we know that would be the only water we would get. She never came by to refill our glasses once, and I would have asked for some had she come by more than just to drop off our food and deliver our check. Both my husband and I got sandwiches, him with the fruit, me with the sweet onion soup. My soup came first, and everything in it was raw. The onions were not even close to cooked, and it was garnished with raw carrots, red cabbage and some unidentifiable green stuff, possibly parsley. The broth was watery and tasted like diluted canned stuff. I sipped on what I could get down because the meal was costing us so much, but when one of the many flies that were buzzing around our table landed in it, I was done. Our sandwiches came and mine didn't even meet my lowest expectations. Dry, stale sourdough bread, two thin slices of turkey, a slice of cheese, and two slices of tomato. No mayo, no mustard, no "red pepper spread" they claimed it would have. I would have gladly brought it up to our waitress, but where was she? Lord only knows. Not at our table, that's for sure. My husband was equally unimpressed with his chicken something-or-other that he ordered. When our waitress finally reappeared to deliver our bill, suddenly cheery now that her tip was on the line, we couldn't wait to get out of there. We never, EVER leave without giving a tip, but there's a first time for everything. I'm sorry, but $30 worth of bad service and even worse food does not add up to a generous gratuity. I don't care if we are starving and they are the only restaurant open, we are never going back.

After a coupe hours of Oktoberfest, the boyfriend and I decided to walk around downtown Flagstaff and find a place to eat, we decided on Charly's. We decided since it was SO beautiful outside that we would eat outside on the 2nd story. We each had 2 drinks and then decided to order dinner ( On saturdays they don't serve dinner up there till 5Pm) Our server was awesome, she was very attentive and was very sweet. She went out of our way to please us. Service was wonderful, this is a place to go to have a drink and enjoy the Flagstaff weather.

This review is a few months past due.. I live in Phoenix and love to escape up to Flagstaff any time I can to escape the heat. In May A friend and I ventured into Charley's one night on our tour de bars and was quickly greeted by Chelsie behind the bar. She talked us into trying one of her specialty "Jalepeno Margaritas" and i must say.. after about 2-3 each we never wanted to leave. THese things are HANDS DOWN the BEST margaritas to ever touch your mouth. We had plans to try out somewhere new the next night but couldnt get those Jalepeno Margs off our mind. so we stumbled back in there. She let us know she had brought in Blackberries that night to make some blackberry margs for us to try out as well adn boy did she not disappoint! She tols us she had been working there for 15 years and brought in the jalepenos and blackberries out of her own pocket to just experiment and have some fun. We went back about a month or so later but she wasnt working. I hope on our next trip we can catch her on a night she is there becasue we have been raving about those Jalepeno Margs since! ONly negative was the out dated, out of tune band they had playing that night, but live music is better than no music still!

After what seemed like hours of walking around downtown Flagstaff searching for a place to dine with a patio that could accomodate my canine companion, we finally got seated at Charley's. I'm so glad we did! What a great experience... large selection of beer, if you are so inclined, including some offerings of the region. Also, Beam shots on special, since I was so inclined. Ha. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, attentive and quick, and the other guests on the patio were delightful. The restaurant is on the bottom level of Hotel Weatherford in downtown Flagstaff, so you have a great view of what's going on if you sit outside. Walter (the dog) was even served his own dish of water... and that's great service. He had his own chair and everything. I was most impressed with how well we were treated at Charley's!

I only gave this place a 3 star review because they hold the annual pine cone drop for new years eve, and the ambiance was cute. Kind of old-time saloony. The food took forever to come, and the table that was seated after us that had just as many people got their order before us, and was finished eating before we got our food. Kind of annoying. Then the food was just so-so. Nothing great. I had a beef dip with fries, and had asked the waitress if I could do 1/2 french fries half onion rings and she just said no. OK, well it doesn't hurt to ask... even though I am sure they probably could. None of the people at my table, out of 6, enjoyed their food that much. So, 3 stars it is.

The food is sub-par. The service is okay. The management was actually very good. I rarely write about management in my reviews, but I was impressed on my visit to Charlie's. It's kind of embarrassing, but I was having one of those "where to eat" fights with my girlfriend. I was in a bad mood because by the time we decided on Charlie's I WAS STARVING!!! I put on my face for the waitress, but in between her visits I wanted to rip my hair out with frustration. The food did take a little while, but it wasn't a big deal. I can't be sure, but I think the manager picked up on my body language (embarrassing since I was acting like an asshole). He apologized for the wait and offered me coffee and dessert on the house. I'll give Charlie's another chance because of him. We'll see if the next thing I order is any better.

Really I'd go 3.75 stars, but I'll bump them to 4. Located in the lobby of the Weatherford Hotel the decor is very charming and it's a comfortable atmosphere. We arrived and there was a group of "mature" gentlemen at another table discussing how they were going to vote in the election. I get the sense that's the kind of place it is - a gathering place for folks to linger, chat and discuss. Service was charming but rather slow, especially considering there were only about 3 tables occupied and the voters finished and left before our food arrived anyhow. The food was o.k. Nicely presented and the powdered sugar on the pancakes was a nice touch as was the complimentary peaches and cream appetizer.

Anyway, we watched a local band play and enjoyed several good drinks. Flavored Smirnoff Vodka was on special for 2.50 - felt like I was stealing... One of the few bars downtown we found that wasn't packed to the rafters with college kids :) The hotel itself looked really cool. A clerk told us about a few of the many ghost stories. I will probably stay here on my next visit.

Charley's did it right. A large party of us came to Charley's for a friend's birthday dinner and everything went smooth as silk. When rolling 23 people into a place I always expect some type of hiccup, but not here. They sat us in a room off to the side with a bar and bathrooms to ourselves. Good idea given the surly nature of my friends. We only had one waiter for the lot of us, but she did an admirable job of keeping everything under control and refilling drinks. The beer selection was good, I believe there were around 7-8 taps with regular American beers and some craft brews. I had a few Lagunitas IPAs that were great. For appetizers we went with the Charley's Baked Dip. I was pleasantly surprised to find that for the large amount of "dip" we received there was more than enough baked bread chips. It was creamy, cheesy and delicious. My dinner companion got the NY Strip (Rare) and I ordered the Veggie Chimichanga. Of note, the black beans and rice that came with the chimichanga were great. The salsa was also pretty good. I questioned a few of my friends at the table and none had any complaints about their entrees. Would definitely come back for a visit while in the wooded north of Arizona!

We stumbled across Charly's while exploring the Heritage Square area. The staff gladly accomodate us and our large dog. We had a great meal and a much needed beer. Only one person in our party didn't care for her taco salad...don't think it was what she was expecting. Kudos to the waitstaff for graciously fitting in 2 latecomers to our party. This was perhaps the worst food and worst service I have experienced in years. We went for a BDAY party with a large crowd. Our tea was never refilled and the second glasses of wine were never delivered. Desert was forgotten after ordered so I had to go and inquire in the kitchen as Adam was nowhere to be found the entire evening. Adam was the worst server I have ever had period. He neglected the table the entire evening and then we were forced to give this chump 18%?!?!?! The prime rib was supposed to be medium rare but came out like it had been nuked in the microwave and had not one spot of red anywhere. What a waste of money and time. The food is terrible compared to other restaurants in the area, so do your homework before deciding to dine and spend your money there in the evening. STEER CLEAR!!!!

I feel a little guilty writing a review, because I am stuck on one menu item. I really like Charly's. During the summer, it's a great place to sit on the patio and watch the "parade" that is Flagstaff pass by. In the winter,the fireplace will be going and it is very charming. Now, the meal I crave is the Navaho Taco. It's just so dang good, and I know that my friends that live in Flag often order it also. To go with it for a Sunday lunch, Charley's makes the best Bloody Mary I've ever had - infused with jalapeño, of course (and this isn't even one of my favorite drinks). The wait staff is always so friendly, and the place is dog-friendly, too. It's just a cool place.....charming, funky, friendly, historic.

This is one of my favorite places to go downtown. The drinks are usually well made. I've had some really friendly bartenders and the atmosphere pretty much makes this place. When it gets busy it's never jam-packed like a sardine can but still noticeably active. I haven't tried a lot of their food but what I have had is good. I do believe the name of the restaurant is misspelled. It should be "Charly's." I had the 1/2 burger medium rare with onions and mushrooms for about $9.00. (I could be a bit off on that). I chose a side salad for my side item and it was high quality. The ranch was good and the salad itself was fresh. The burger came with ketchup, tomato, lettuce, and a pickle on the side. The bun was also of noticeable high quality. It was a great burger. I gave it only 4/5 stars because the food was a bit pricey.

Charley's is as classic downtown Flagstaff as you can get. Not only is the ambience extremely inviting and warm but the food is amazing as well. Choose from classic Northern Arizona dishes like Navajo Taco's or pork posole. Or go for something more traditional like a burger, French onion soup or Nachos. It is really rare to find fine dining in such a casual relaxed environment with prices to match (think $10 lunch entree). The restaurant takes up the majority of the bottom floor, but there are all three bars on site. I think you'll enjoy!

Whether it was seeing music down in the main hall, grabbing a quick pint at the Exchange Pub, or tying one on at the Zane Grey, Charley's always felt like home. Cool lunch spot. Pretty comprehensive menu. I admit, I had a hard time deciding what to order. Then I settled on the Aspen - a chicken sandwich with guac. Seemed simple enough. I had their Soup de Jour, too, a potato cream soup. It was oh-so-yummy, esp. sitting outside on the patio in the chilly (yes!) November air. To top it off, an Apricot Ale. Soup = good! Ok, don't be confused by the neon sign, this place is not some crappy diner. It's a real restaurant with fine wines and aged meats. This place is great if you wanna get some great food and serious atmosphere for say a first date. One thing to remember, place is kinda pricey...one can easily spend 50-60 bucks. Good service and great food, but remember wear something nice or you will definitely feel out of place.

After a few disappointing meals in Flag, we ended up at Charly's for dinner. They had a wonderful selection of draft beer to select from. My husband and I both had the Navajo taco. I had the veggie (small size) and my husband had the beef (normal size). We both loved our dinner, although my husband said he would order the smaller size next time. This is a great place to stop into in Flag, esepcially on a cold winter night, you can sit near the fire, devour their delicious French onion soup, all in the comfort of the Weatherford Hotel. The whole building is historic, full of charm, and has this buzz about it. We had to check out the 111 year old Hotel Weatherford (what a nice building!) just to for a look, and of course Charly's Pub (which is on the lower level of the hotel) just for a drink. Charley's has abundant free popcorn, live local bands, and to-die-for nachos. There are tons of beers on tap and a free taco happy hour on Fridays. Honey Brown is the best deal at Charley's, which is permanently on special at $2.50 a pint. The atmostphere is friendly and diverse, this is definitely not a college bar. You can also head upstairs to the Zane Grey Ballroom, which has a beatifully restored bar and balcony from which you can smoke, drink, and observe the Flagstaff nightlife from an ideal perch. You can also roam the hallways of the historic hotel, which is rumored to be haunted by numerous ghosts, most notably a honeymoon couple that were murdered in their beds back in Flagstaff's Wild West days. Charley's is MUST when visiting or going out in Flagstaff.

The family (dog included) spent the day in Flagstaff getting away from the heat in the Valley. We tried several places that we were told were dog friendly but were turned away. We stumbled across Charly's while exploring the Heritage Square area. The staff gladly accomodate us and our large dog. We had a great meal and a much needed beer. The service was outstanding as was the food.

This was perhaps the worst food and worst service I have experienced in years. We went for a BDAY party with a large crowd. Our tea was never refilled and the second glasses of wine were never delivered. Desert was forgotten after ordered so I had to go and inquire in the kitchen as Adam was nowhere to be found the entire evening. Adam was the worst server I have ever had period. He neglected the table the entire evening and then we were forced to give this chump 18%?!?!?! The prime rib was supposed to be medium rare but came out like it had been nuked in the microwave and had not one spot of red anywhere. What a waste of money and time. The food is terrible compared to other restaurants in the area, so do your homework before deciding to dine and spend your money there in the evening. STEER CLEAR!!!!

I feel a little guilty writing a review, because I am stuck on one menu item. I really like Charly's. During the summer, it's a great place to sit on the patio and watch the "parade" that is Flagstaff pass by. In the winter,the fireplace will be going and it is very charming. Now, the meal I crave is the Navaho Taco. It's just so dang good, and I know that my friends that live in Flag often order it also. To go with it for a Sunday lunch, Charley's makes the best Bloody Mary I've ever had - infused with jalapeño, of course (and this isn't even one of my favorite drinks). The wait staff is always so friendly, and the place is dog-friendly, too. It's just a cool place.....charming, funky, friendly, historic.

This is my favorit bar in downtown Flagstaff if you want to get away from the college scene. The balcony in the winter gives a great view while having some drinks and enjoying the snow covered city. The only bar downtown that knows how to make an old fashion.

This is one of my favorite places to go downtown. The drinks are usually well made. I've had some really friendly bartenders and the atmosphere pretty much makes this place. When it gets busy it's never jam-packed like a sardine can but still noticeably active. I haven't tried a lot of their food but what I have had is good. I do believe the name of the restaurant is misspelled. It should be "Charly's." I had the 1/2 burger medium rare with onions and mushrooms for about $9.00. (I could be a bit off on that). I chose a side salad for my side item and it was high quality. The ranch was good and the salad itself was fresh. The burger came with ketchup, tomato, lettuce, and a pickle on the side. The bun was also of noticeable high quality. It was a great burger. I gave it only 4/5 stars because the food was a bit pricey.

I like Charley's. First off, I love the mispelling, second off, free taco fridays are a great way to end the week with friends. Their beer selection is very nice, and the place has a very down to earth vibe about it. Also, the bartenders know how to pour beer mixtures, and do them properly. Great place, great times.

Charley's is as classic downtown Flagstaff as you can get. Not only is the ambience extremely inviting and warm but the food is amazing as well. Choose from classic Northern Arizona dishes like Navajo Taco's or pork posole. Or go for something more traditional like a burger, French onion soup or Nachos. It is really rare to find fine dining in such a casual relaxed environment with prices to match (think $10 lunch entree). The restaurant takes up the majority of the bottom floor, but there are all three bars on site. I think you'll enjoy!

Whether it was seeing music down in the main hall, grabbing a quick pint at the Exchange Pub, or tying one on at the Zane Grey, Charley's always felt like home. The food is a great and the atmosphere is unmatched in the city. They've got a large selection of beers on tap and the bartenders know how to pour a proper drink. If you're looking for a bit of the old west and something to quench your thirst/hunger, Charley's is a can't miss stop in Flagstaff.

Convenient downtown location - we stayed at an inn a few blocks from here. A friend recommended the place to us and we weren't disappointed. We had a group of nine and they accommodated us pretty well. It's not a huge place, so reservations are recommended. Most of the fare (tex-mex) is reasonably priced; the specials were overpriced - especially for a casual dining place like this. But we had an overall good experience with the waitstaff and the portions were healthy.

Cool lunch spot. Pretty comprehensive menu. I admit, I had a hard time deciding what to order. Then I settled on the Aspen - a chicken sandwich with guac. Seemed simple enough. I had their Soup de Jour, too, a potato cream soup. It was oh-so-yummy, esp. sitting outside on the patio in the chilly (yes!) November air. To top it off, an Apricot Ale. Soup = good! (wish I had ordered a bowl) Beer = mmm! Aspen (sandwich) = okay. I wasn't expecting having to rip the chicken breast apart with my front teeth. Price = reasonable for 2 people and a generous tip. Waiter = amusing. His blase honesty cracked me up. Location = very cool, esp. sitting outside on the patio, watching the foot traffic, listening to the sounds of a quaint little downtown. Ok, don't be confused by the neon sign, this place is not some crappy diner. It's a real restaurant with fine wines and aged meats. This place is great if you wanna get some great food and serious atmosphere for say a first date. One thing to remember, place is kinda pricey...one can easily spend 50-60 bucks. Good service and great food, but remember wear something nice or you will definitely feel out of place.

After a few disappointing meals in Flag, we ended up at Charly's for dinner. They had a wonderful selection of draft beer to select from. My husband and I both had the Navajo taco. I had the veggie (small size) and my husband had the beef (normal size). We both loved our dinner, although my husband said he would order the smaller size next time. This is a great place to stop into in Flag, esepcially on a cold winter night, you can sit near the fire, devour their delicious French onion soup, all in the comfort of the Weatherford Hotel. The whole building is historic, full of charm, and has this buzz about it. Great place to stop for a happy hour cocktail on a Saturday afternoon. Was with 2 girlfriends and their dogs and it was excellent that they allowed us to enjoy their outdoor sidewalk seating area. We had to check out the 111 year old Hotel Weatherford (what a nice building!) just to for a look, and of course Charly's Pub (which is on the lower level of the hotel) just for a drink. I've met some interesting people and have seen some interesting music played live here.Great memories all; Ska, Reagge, Cloe from Venice and this night an Irish Band jam session. Lots of seating and a nice bar with interactive bartenders, one pool table and a modern jukebox. Probably, in my opinion, the coolest bar in Flagstaff.

Charley's is a fantastic bar and restaurant on the groundfloor of the historic Weatherford Hotel in the center of downtown Flagstaff. Charley's has abundant free popcorn, live local bands, and to-die-for nachos. There are tons of beers on tap and a free taco happy hour on Fridays. Honey Brown is the best deal at Charley's, which is permanently on special at $2.50 a pint. The atmostphere is friendly and diverse, this is definitely not a college bar. You can also head upstairs to the Zane Grey Ballroom, which has a beatifully restored bar and balcony from which you can smoke, drink, and observe the Flagstaff nightlife from an ideal perch. You can also roam the hallways of the historic hotel, which is rumored to be haunted by numerous ghosts, most notably a honeymoon couple that were murdered in their beds back in Flagstaff's Wild West days. Charley's is MUST when visiting or going out in Flagstaff.

My husband and I ate dinner there last night and it was one of the best meals we ever had! We have to give our compliments to the Chef Jake. We had 2 different chicken dishes. I had Chicken and pasta and my husband had the weekly special mushroom stuffed chicken. After the very sweet waitress told Jake how much we loved his food he came out to say Hi and thank us and tell us more about the dishes. He said he foraged the mushrooms himself! This young chef obviously loves what he does and has a passion for it. You can taste it in his wonderful dishes. They were also offering bottles of wine to purchase for your meal. It was Canyon Road a California vineyard. We got the Pinot Noir, and loved it! Well as you can see we were happy with our dining experience and wish Jake the best of luck in his career. The food was good but the services was not. There were only a couple of people in there when we went in for breakfast. We ordered the Navajo Taco, French Toast, and Pancakes. It took forever to get our drinks (tea and coffee) and then took a really long time to get our food. The waitress was not interested in being there. When she brought our bill, she didn't bother to clear away any of our dirty plates. When she came back to pick up the credit card she still didn't clear anything. The only times I really eat here is for munchies with drinks. The nachos and sliders are the best! But on occasion, on days that I crave French onion soup, this is where I can get it! Tons of good crusty and bubbly cheese with the delish onion broth that is flavorful and never want of seasoning. It comes with the house brown bread that is so good. Went there for lunch with my visiting parents who usually expect great food whenever they come up to Flag, but not so at Charly's. We were greeted hesitantly by one host who said it would be a wait, then another hostess came up to the stand moments later and claimed she had no idea what he was talking about and sat us right away. Passing numerous empty tables she took us to the other side of the restaurant, the furthest from the entrance and not really part of the main dining area. It was empty. There wasn't even music. That was fine though, as we were sat by a window so the ambience was okay. Our waitress was another story. It seems as though she may not have ever served in a restaurant before. It seems as though she may not have ever EATEN in a restaurant before. Everything she said seemed hesitant. She asked us if we would like something to drink, except she phrased it "Can I get you anything besides water...like...soda?" It was odd to say the least. Water was fast but the two bloody mary's ordered took probably 20 minutes and were mediocre at best. I had to get up and find her to make sure she hadn't forgotten our table since it was way in the back and we not one single employee walked through the area except our waitress (and that was probably 3 times). Food came out, no silverware. Waitress: "Oh, I guess you might need silverware?" What was happening inside her head is beyond me. Food was mediocre. My mom and I had the Navajo Taco which is overpriced and underwhelming. Asked for a side of sour cream. Got it moments before the check (really) from another server. Flag just has such great food and service and an abundance of out of work, quality servers who need jobs. I'm not sure how this waitress was hired but I hope for her sake she's a fast learner.

Wow this place is great! I was in Flagstaff for work and this was a recommendation from my local colleagues. It's located inside the Weatherford Hotel and the decor is beautiful and interesting. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the food and drink. The service was beyond attentive and helpful and both the waiter and host were very friendly. I am vegetarian and gluten-free and while there weren't many options for me, what I ordered was phenomenal. I had a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich without the bun and sweet potato fries. I asked the waiter for a local beer recommendation and that was very good too. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the Flagstaff area!

My two favorite things about Charly's are the Arizona memorabilia on the walls and the second floor balcony that offers great views of Flagstaff. The staff is pretty shitty. Charly's has several bars, one of them had a live band and cover charge, in order to go to a different bar we were told to talk to the hostess. There were three hostess in a deep conversation about boyfriends, it would be rude to interrupt them so we just stared at them until they were ready to help us, good times. My date had some friends in the downstairs bar so we met up with them. We sat there for a good ten minutes and not one employee walked through there so we went upstairs to grab a drink. The bartender up there was bitchy and gave us attitude for trying to use a card to pay for our drinks. We scrounged up the cash and I tipped her with quarters to which she rolled her eyes. I just smiled and said "sorry, we spent it all at the titty bar." Even though I had a one star experience I'm still giving it four because I've had great times at Charly's in the past.

It's a nice place to sit outside with the pooches, but I wasn't too impressed with the food. It was ok, but nothing that memorable. We started with the French onion soup. It was served warm, but I like my soup served hot, very hot, and the temp was just above lukewarm. The broth was tasty, but the onions, well let's just say they were not cut correctly for French onion soup, they were in huge quartered chunks... someone was lazy in the kitchen, then there was the cheese...OMG I think you could have strung it across the street like a rubber band and stopped traffic. Way too much cheese. I love cheese but yowza!! My hubby's chicken sandwich was ok, the bread looked a little anemic, and it was certainly nothing to write home about. The tapenade, however, was quite good, very flavorful and a more than generous portion. I like Charly's bar, we play pool there every now and then and the atmosphere is nice and laid back, I'll just skip the restaurant for a meal, but I may get that tapenade again!

Charly's wooed me with its period-true exterior in this fabulously old western hotel, then dumped me in the gutter like a wet cigar butt. The food was very expensive and disproportionately mediocre. In fact, it was below the Mendoza line.. I'd have to call it very poor. I suffered through a $10 Navajo taco the meat mixture was as bland as a 1950's cookbook, though the actual fry bread was good. My wife had a crushingly sub-par beef dip. Over cooked and dry, my wife took it and fed it to some grateful reservation dogs later in the day. The service was young and sprite but inefficient. The interior was OK, but done in the inglorious 1970's Victorian-re-do style. Much better choices in beautiful downtown Flagstaff.

I called to put in my take out order at 15 minutes till 5 PM. After a few "Ums", "I'm not sure's" and "I'll have to put you on hold", I was told I would have to call back at 5 and put my order in with the bartender: Torrey. I arrived at around 5:05 and my order was submitted by 5:15. My order took around 20 minutes. Not too unreasonable of a wait time. I should have checked the order while still in the restaurant. I was nearly to my destination at a traffic signal when I thought to check my order. They had given me Buffalo Wings instead of the BBQ wings I had ordered. I pulled over and called them. I spoke to Sam, she said to bring the incorrect order back in. I asked her to put in the correct order. I hoped that would reduce the wait time. I arrived around 6:10 to find the order had not been put in. The other bar staff personnel assisted me. Torrey didn't say anything. The corrected order came out at around 6:25 or so. This time I thought to check the container and discovered they had neglected to add the celery and carrots. After this - the wait staff assisting me apologized for the wait. By the time I reached my car it was 6:37 and home it was after 7:00 PM. Nearly two hours later. My husband has GERD and cannot eat this type of meal late. With the exception of the wings all of the other food was cold. We had ordered the mini burgers called sliders, at Charley's specifically because they were described as char-grilled. I sample one on the way home; they tasted pan fried. The chicken wings, while warm, were just ...well...warm. Not hot and they had just come out of the kitchen. Not particularly tender and not cooked in the sauce. I expected a crisp exterior. It appears the wings were pre-cooked, heated and then the sauce applied. The sauce was NOT cooked on the wings. There were exactly 14 of them in the order. That's 6 down from the 20 or so I thought they used to have in their platter. The current time is 7:49 and I'm thinking I might as well put the food in the garbage. I've lived in Flagstaff since 1998. I have come to Charley's a handful of times and have never had a good experience there. Reading through the older reviews it appears the timing of the food delivery, food prep, food storage, drink refilling and the general lack of professionalism on the parts of the wait staff have been pervasive issues at this place. This would be indicative of a need for better management. Coming to think of it I don't believe I can recall the presence of a manager whenever I've been there. I don't imagine the food service manager reads these reviews. That is a shame as it's a great opportunity to get feedback from the diners. The restaurant may have the location going for it, however ,were this my restaurant I would worry about becoming too complacent.

My sister had the fish and chips. She enjoyed the flavor and texture of the fish but I was not impressed with the proportions; two tiny pieces of fish came on a giant pile of fries. My BIL had a Mexican chicken burrito which came smothered in sauce and cheese with a side of tri-colored chips and melted cheese. He said it was "AWESOME!" I had the Reuben. It was MEH. There was a nice proportion of meat/cheese/kraut, unfortunately, the kraut was flavorless. I wouldn't even say half-sour. More like no-sour. I would not go back.

For some reason, Charly's thinks that they're actually Don & Charlie's. Let me tell you something -- they're truly not. Sigh. What to say about Charly's. Or as my ex-wife and I call it, "Chewy's." Charly's food is probably a step above Carl's Jr., but at the price of Don & Charlie's. I haven't been back in about a month and a half, so maybe I'm outdated in this, but the service was piss poor. The tragedy in this was the fact our daughter was graduating N.A.U. and this was our graduation supper. Certainly a memorable one, but for all the wrong reasons. Simply put, there was cotton in the tacos. A $113 meal for four could have been put to better use. Never again. PS-Please spell Charlie without the "Y" because after we finished up, that's all we could keep asking ourselves :)

Having a meal in a historic hotel on any one of 3 floors is fun. The main restaurant is on the main floor, the Gopher Hole is a pub in the basement, and the Zane Grey room is on the top floor with a balcony. Yes, there is outside seating on the balcony. I have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The staff is attentive and helpful with suggestions. The draft beer selections are always interesting. Even though this is not thought of as a Mexican restaurant, their Southwest dishes are really good. We had the Chimmichanga and Fish Tacos. For a special treat, have their HUGE plate of Nachos. Don't order the big one along with a meal unless you have a sizeable group, It makes a great group appetizer with drinks.

Limited space + an itty-bitty shower are completely made up for in kitsch + historic appeal here. This bar/hotel (only 11 rooms!) was the perfect place to stay for a Saturday night in downtown Flagstaff: It's within walking distance of countless bars, little shops + weekend events. Granted, there's limited parking so you have to catch it right, otherwise it's a trek. I wish the weather would've cooperated to enjoy the wrap around porch, but the second floor bar was warm + cozy. The hot chocolate + Bailey's didn't let me down either. I'll definitely be back!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Charly's! I mostly come here to drink at the bar areas. I have eaten here only one time and it was pretty good, but I can't comment much on the restaurant. However, I have been to the bars here plenty of times and I love it! It's right downtown on a busy corner street which makes for great people watching. I hung out in the bar downstairs a few times where we've had cheap drinks and some free tacos!! Yum! Can't go wrong with free tacos! Here, you can play pool or dance the night away! I mostly come here after bar hopping around and head to the upstairs bar. Sometimes it may have a band or even a wedding reception that is ending in the Zane Grey Ballroom. It is usually really busy, but the drinks are surprisingly cheap. They always have fresh popcorn and there is a huge patio outside to watch the city. Overall, this is a place I must go to every time I'm in Flagstaff! I hope you check it out and like it as much as me!

This review is mainly for the bar areas. I've eaten at the restaurant and it was pretty good, but not great. I'd give the food three stars. What I love to go here for are the bars, particularly the upstairs bar. Very cool scene up there, whether you are inside where it is warm or out on the balcony checking out the heart of downtown Flagstaff. They always seem to have good drink specials, even after happy hour. I've seen people have their wedding reception in the Zane Grey Ballroom upstairs and thought it was a very cool idea. In the mood for dancing, live music, shooting pool, or eating free tacos on Friday night? Check out the bar downstairs. Great scene there too! One of my favorite things about this bar? They have a creeper shot (sneaky photo) of Edward Abbey drinking a beer in the bar from the early '90s, not too long before his death. Very cool. You can find it downstairs near the bathroom.

This review is just for the bar area itself. We went in on a busy Saturday night. There was one waitress working but we weren't ever acknowleged by her. After waiting about 20 minutes we ordered our drinks from the bar. I give them two stars since they had complimentary fresh popcorn available. We stopped here since it was on the Ale Trail but there's so many other great places to go in Flagstaff we won't be back here again.

Only rating as a bar. Really cool place to have a drink. Steeped in tradition and you can feel that as soon as you arrive. It has great memorabilia everywhere and wickedly strong cocktails. Headed upstairs for a great view over Flagstaff, will defiantly head back for a drink or two!

Overall not impressed. The ambience was one of the only positive parts, which is amazing. My family couldn't get over it, it's a historic building with a nice fireplace. We ate on the main floor in the dining area, there is also a bar upstairs and downstairs with the same menu. Our server was obviously new, he asked us if we wanted dessert when we were still chewing halfway through our meal. I understand new servers but he also had a girl following him around which was awkward because she was never introduced and never debriefed us why they were tag teaming us. Besides the weird service, the food was okay and definitely not worth the price. The salmon I got was overcooked (22$) and the only sides offered are three different kinds of potatoes wtf? And I'm paying for what? The rib eye my dad got was tough, not a good cut, although they did cook it well (24$). My mom got baby back ribs and they were overcooked, wouldn't ever get them again (20$). She pretended they were okay. My dad enjoyed the spinach salad though. Overall would not recommend, unless you want to get a drink and some dessert. Although I ordered a Hendricks and tonic and it tasted like tonic because it was a tall, and an extremely light pour. I was disappointed. Their homemade apple pie was delicious though.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere, great drinks! Instead of going back to Las Vegas after the Grand Canyon, we decided to make the shorter trip to Flagstaff for a night. It was nice and we happened upon Charly's. I was having cheese cravings- not sharp cheeses like Cheddar or Gouda but more of a sweeter cheese like Ricotta or Mozzarella. Charly's Spinach Dip hit the spot. Perfectly creamy, perfectly cheesy and perfectly crispy baguette rounds. The fiance and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Also, Flagstaff was surprisingly colder than we had expected, and we had not planned for that. So I got a Hot Apple Pie (Apple Cider + Tuaca) as we sat by the fire. It was the perfect end to a long day, and a perfect way to counter the cold temperature outside. The service was also fantastic- very nice, not pushy, good advice, very helpful and accommodating, refilled our drinks when necessary, etc. It was a very pleasant experience. My few hours in Flagstaff made me want to stay for the rest of our vacation and Charly's was a good contributor to that.

Stopped in for a quick dinner and drinks. My wife had a lemon drop martini. I will bow down and say it was better than mine, which my wife says are the best. Granted, mine are good but these we're amazing! My wife had the taco salad and her only complaint was the salsa was "too hot" for her. I like spicy and did find it a bit spicy for a salad. I had the sliders and they were excellent. What a fantastic historic building to see when you're visiting Flagstaff. Didn't realize until after we finished, there is also service upstairs in the bar. Super cool place.

Breakfast here= GROSS. Mimosas=DELISH! Do not order their potatoes as a side here see if there is a substitute before you dive into some of their stale home fries or diced potatoes. I really wish they would just make hash browns those would have been so much better. I ordered an omelet and the waitress didnt ask me what kind of cheese i had wanted and i totally spaced about asking. Another historic building in Flagstaff boasts casual dining and a bar with a pretty neato view of the downtown area. Specific review for the Zane Grey Ballroom patio area, has that wrap around porch/veranda reminiscent of Bourbon Street, three floors up. Being there on a Saturday night, it was PACKED and the waiter service was slow as molasses in January. I ordered a veggie burger (decent, nothing amazing then again always hard pressed to find a stellar Veg Burger) and a side salad (gotta save carb room for drinking!) I felt bad for the waitress as she was the only one serving the upstairs, so needless to say our food took FOREVER, but she was friendly so it was fine. Plus the little bar upstairs was NOT slow, so it was a good time.

Had breakfast here with the beau while on vacation in Flagstaff. Nice setting inside the Hotel Weatherford. The menu was on the small side, but adequate for breakfast -- about 10 or so breakfast offerings and many in a Southwest style. The restaurant (and hotel) are quaintly Victorian with high ceilings, historic photos on the walls and rich carpets and wallpapers. The place was clean and well-staffed. While we waited for our orders the server brought us complimentary shot glasses of canned peaches with whipped cream & a sprinkling of cinnamon. That was a nice, unexpected touch. I got huevos rancheros that were served with a huge, hot fresh flour tortilla the size of a truck steering wheel! The BF ordered some egg dish that came with a HUGE thick, juicy ham steak. Both were excellent and I can't say anything bad about the food. His freshly squeezed OJ was weak and kind of bitter but that happens sometimes with fresh oranges and the server took it back and comped it. All in all, a nice, upscale place for breakfast with interesting street views, solid food offerings and great service.

I went here for my 21st birthday. The bartender checked my ID and it took awhile because I just turned 21 half an hour ago. He just smiled. So I thought maybe it was unusual for people to hit the bar once they turn 21. I must be a crazy person. Too excited to become 21. I like the furniture design. It's so nice! It wasn't as crowded on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The service was pretty cool. I had fun on my birthday! My friend and i had the same birthday so we got a free drink (both splitting it).

I agree with Ben S.--Charly's falls somewhere between 3.5 and 3.75 stars, but I will bump up the rating for the location and charming, laid-back ambiance. Good pricing on drinks and food, but food was just okay and service was mediocre (I think they were understaffed that evening). It was a busy night, with lots of people on the second floor and they only had one server, who doubled as the bartender and cashier. This place is located within an old, Victorian looking hotel down in the main street area. Very old Americana look and feel to the hotel which was cool. The second floor has an indoor area as well as a wrap-around balcony where it was great to have a drink and look out over the rest of old town flagstaff. They had live music which was another plus. Good experience and a fun hang-out spot!

You have not experienced Flagstaff until you go to Charlies! Bring your friends, family and even kids can enjoy the view of the peaks from the Zan Grey balcony upstairs. Their food is amazing and they have tones of drinks to choose from. This is also a great place to take a date to; a nice dinner, live local music & right in the middle of down town flagstaff! It is a very unique laid back kind of place, you won't have to wait in a line to get in or change your shoes cause they have a scuff on them. This place really captures the essence and personality of Flagstaff. Everyone is supper friendly and inviting day and night.

Downtown Flagstaff has this old vibe which is great. This place is part of the Weatherly Hotel, which is an amazing in itself. I came to this restaurant just because I was only here for a night and this place was recommended on Yelp. I am only rating the food here. The service and ambiance was nice, but when I am going to go get something to eat, I want the food to be at least decent. I got the spinach salad and french dip. The salad was $9, and for that price, I expect more than 20 leaves. The eggs tasted a bit old. I wasn't happy about that, but I had to eat it, as when I am on vacation, I have trouble eating veggies, so I had to finish it (not that it was hard because there was so little). The french dip was ok, even if a bit on the salty side. I'd say I'd never eat here again, but that is probably because I'll probably never go to Flagstaff again.

Husband fell in love with the burger here. Enjoyed a decent lunch here with "the girls". We were greeted and seated quickly. Drinks arrived momentarily even though they were very busy that day. I had a seared ahi sandwich, done perfectly, and a good-sized piece o' fish, at that. What else can you say about fruit salad, except that it tasted fresh? Only one person in our party didn't care for her taco salad...don't think it was what she was expecting. Kudos to the waitstaff for graciously fitting in 2 latecomers to our party. Would like to come back again for dinner and check out the upstairs or bar areas that others have commented on.

We weren't quite ready to head back to Camp Verde after dinner at nearby Monsoon, so based on a recommendation from our server at Monsoon, we stopped in at Charlie's for a nightcap. We took note that the host at Charley's told one party that there was a 45 minute wait for a dinner table. But anyway, we walked over to the bar section with a jukebox and pool table. I ordered a "hardcore cider". JP had an Alaska Amber Ale. I thought my cider was great (it didn't have that much of a kick though), however JP thought it was kinda sweet. Relaxed environs with speed and friendly table service. Wide variety of clientele. Damn, that one older guy over at the pool table. He sank all his solids before his partner could even take a whack at her stripes.

My girlfriend brought me on a date here and their steak is delicious! A pretty big steak and cooked to order. I loved the au jus sauce that it came with, very flavorful. The mash potatoes was pretty good too. A bit pricey, but it was steak. The big disappointment was the bar. The kilt-lifter was good, but its beer... can't mess that up.. or can you? Their Guinness was super flat and was just not satisfying. The worst pint of Guinness I have ever had. I was also not a fan of their plastic cups that they served our beers in. But.... they have free popcorn!

WE DID NOT EAT HERE! We entered for brunch, it was reasonably busy but empty tables so we stood uncomfortably waiting to be seated. After being ignored repeadly, I told a waitress we wanted a table for two. Were told, to go through and check with the seater - who also was the manager. Waited at the his station, reading menu as he went past us 4-5 times before I finally had to ask him for a table. His answer "It will be about 20 mins". No apologies, no feeling like he ever wanted to sit us, more like we were an inconvenience. Despite having empty tables, they obviously are incapable of handling business. Went elsewhere and had a great coffee and breakfast burrito.

This place is really nice. Great atmosphere in the historic hotel, nice porches and spacious upstairs for dining. Best Navajo taco in town, covered in grilled vegetables. The whole order is more food than anyone should ever eat. Nights often have interesting music, and the bar crowd seems more relaxed than average. I've never seen it overcrowded. I once stopped in after a David Grisman concert at the Orpheum. A group of acoustic musicians were on stage, and shortly after David's back up band arrived with instruments in hand. A great night of music followed. Wish I could bring Charley's down to Tucson. Might be the best bar in Arizona.

Never again! While exploring the downtown area, we were drawn in for lunch by how cool the old building looked. Unfortunately, the historic architecture is where the niceties stopped for us. Our hostess was pleasant, but our waitress was awful, just like the food we were about to get. She brought us waters after taking our orders, and little did we know that would be the only water we would get. She never came by to refill our glasses once, and I would have asked for some had she come by more than just to drop off our food and deliver our check. Both my husband and I got sandwiches, him with the fruit, me with the sweet onion soup. My soup came first, and everything in it was raw. The onions were not even close to cooked, and it was garnished with raw carrots, red cabbage and some unidentifiable green stuff, possibly parsley. The broth was watery and tasted like diluted canned stuff. I sipped on what I could get down because the meal was costing us so much, but when one of the many flies that were buzzing around our table landed in it, I was done. Our sandwiches came and mine didn't even meet my lowest expectations. Dry, stale sourdough bread, two thin slices of turkey, a slice of cheese, and two slices of tomato. No mayo, no mustard, no "red pepper spread" they claimed it would have. I would have gladly brought it up to our waitress, but where was she? Lord only knows. Not at our table, that's for sure. My husband was equally unimpressed with his chicken something-or-other that he ordered. When our waitress finally reappeared to deliver our bill, suddenly cheery now that her tip was on the line, we couldn't wait to get out of there. We never, EVER leave without giving a tip, but there's a first time for everything. I'm sorry, but $30 worth of bad service and even worse food does not add up to a generous gratuity. I don't care if we are starving and they are the only restaurant open, we are never going back.

Always walked past this place and made a mental note that I was going to eat/stay there. After a coupe hours of Oktoberfest, the boyfriend and I decided to walk around downtown Flagstaff and find a place to eat, we decided on Charly's. We decided since it was SO beautiful outside that we would eat outside on the 2nd story. We each had 2 drinks and then decided to order dinner ( On saturdays they don't serve dinner up there till 5Pm) Our server was awesome, she was very attentive and was very sweet. She went out of our way to please us. Service was wonderful, this is a place to go to have a drink and enjoy the Flagstaff weather.

This review is a few months past due.. I live in Phoenix and love to escape up to Flagstaff any time I can to escape the heat. In May A friend and I ventured into Charley's one night on our tour de bars and was quickly greeted by Chelsie behind the bar. She talked us into trying one of her specialty "Jalepeno Margaritas" and i must say.. after about 2-3 each we never wanted to leave. THese things are HANDS DOWN the BEST margaritas to ever touch your mouth. We had plans to try out somewhere new the next night but couldnt get those Jalepeno Margs off our mind. so we stumbled back in there. She let us know she had brought in Blackberries that night to make some blackberry margs for us to try out as well adn boy did she not disappoint! She tols us she had been working there for 15 years and brought in the jalepenos and blackberries out of her own pocket to just experiment and have some fun. We went back about a month or so later but she wasnt working. I hope on our next trip we can catch her on a night she is there becasue we have been raving about those Jalepeno Margs since! ONly negative was the out dated, out of tune band they had playing that night, but live music is better than no music still!

After what seemed like hours of walking around downtown Flagstaff searching for a place to dine with a patio that could accomodate my canine companion, we finally got seated at Charley's. I'm so glad we did! What a great experience... large selection of beer, if you are so inclined, including some offerings of the region. Also, Beam shots on special, since I was so inclined. Ha. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, attentive and quick, and the other guests on the patio were delightful. The restaurant is on the bottom level of Hotel Weatherford in downtown Flagstaff, so you have a great view of what's going on if you sit outside. Walter (the dog) was even served his own dish of water... and that's great service. He had his own chair and everything. I was most impressed with how well we were treated at Charley's!

I only gave this place a 3 star review because they hold the annual pine cone drop for new years eve, and the ambiance was cute. Kind of old-time saloony. The food took forever to come, and the table that was seated after us that had just as many people got their order before us, and was finished eating before we got our food. Kind of annoying. Then the food was just so-so. Nothing great. I had a beef dip with fries, and had asked the waitress if I could do 1/2 french fries half onion rings and she just said no. OK, well it doesn't hurt to ask... even though I am sure they probably could. None of the people at my table, out of 6, enjoyed their food that much. So, 3 stars it is.

The food is sub-par. The service is okay. The management was actually very good. I rarely write about management in my reviews, but I was impressed on my visit to Charlie's. It's kind of embarrassing, but I was having one of those "where to eat" fights with my girlfriend. I was in a bad mood because by the time we decided on Charlie's I WAS STARVING!!! I put on my face for the waitress, but in between her visits I wanted to rip my hair out with frustration. The food did take a little while, but it wasn't a big deal. I can't be sure, but I think the manager picked up on my body language (embarrassing since I was acting like an asshole). He apologized for the wait and offered me coffee and dessert on the house. I'll give Charlie's another chance because of him. We'll see if the next thing I order is any better.

Really I'd go 3.75 stars, but I'll bump them to 4. Located in the lobby of the Weatherford Hotel the decor is very charming and it's a comfortable atmosphere. We arrived and there was a group of "mature" gentlemen at another table discussing how they were going to vote in the election. I get the sense that's the kind of place it is - a gathering place for folks to linger, chat and discuss. Service was charming but rather slow, especially considering there were only about 3 tables occupied and the voters finished and left before our food arrived anyhow. The food was o.k. Nicely presented and the powdered sugar on the pancakes was a nice touch as was the complimentary peaches and cream appetizer.

My husband and I ate dinner there last night and it was one of the best meals we ever had! We have to give our compliments to the Chef Jake. We had 2 different chicken dishes. I had Chicken and pasta and my husband had the weekly special mushroom stuffed chicken. After the very sweet waitress told Jake how much we loved his food he came out to say Hi and thank us and tell us more about the dishes. He said he foraged the mushrooms himself! This young chef obviously loves what he does and has a passion for it. You can taste it in his wonderful dishes. They were also offering bottles of wine to purchase for your meal. It was Canyon Road a California vineyard. We got the Pinot Noir, and loved it! Well as you can see we were happy with our dining experience and wish Jake the best of luck in his career. Navajo taco should be called Navajo Tostada. Kind of like an elephant ear with taco dressing on it. Seemed ok and worth a try. Sounds more interesting with the zagat recommendation. The food was good but the services was not. There were only a couple of people in there when we went in for breakfast. We ordered the Navajo Taco, French Toast, and Pancakes. It took forever to get our drinks (tea and coffee) and then took a really long time to get our food. The waitress was not interested in being there. When she brought our bill, she didn't bother to clear away any of our dirty plates. When she came back to pick up the credit card she still didn't clear anything. I'm giving it three stars because the food was good but the staff sure could use some training.

The only times I really eat here is for munchies with drinks. The nachos and sliders are the best! But on occasion, on days that I crave French onion soup, this is where I can get it! Tons of good crusty and bubbly cheese with the delish onion broth that is flavorful and never want of seasoning. It comes with the house brown bread that is so good. It sounds silly, but they have tomato salad dressing that I LOVE, and so my usual meal is the soup and a salad. An excellent meal at that!

Went there for lunch with my visiting parents who usually expect great food whenever they come up to Flag, but not so at Charly's. We were greeted hesitantly by one host who said it would be a wait, then another hostess came up to the stand moments later and claimed she had no idea what he was talking about and sat us right away. Passing numerous empty tables she took us to the other side of the restaurant, the furthest from the entrance and not really part of the main dining area. It was empty. There wasn't even music. That was fine though, as we were sat by a window so the ambience was okay. Our waitress was another story. It seems as though she may not have ever served in a restaurant before. It seems as though she may not have ever EATEN in a restaurant before. Everything she said seemed hesitant. She asked us if we would like something to drink, except she phrased it "Can I get you anything besides water...like...soda?" It was odd to say the least. Water was fast but the two bloody mary's ordered took probably 20 minutes and were mediocre at best. I had to get up and find her to make sure she hadn't forgotten our table since it was way in the back and we not one single employee walked through the area except our waitress (and that was probably 3 times). Food came out, no silverware. Waitress: "Oh, I guess you might need silverware?" What was happening inside her head is beyond me. Food was mediocre. My mom and I had the Navajo Taco which is overpriced and underwhelming. Asked for a side of sour cream. Got it moments before the check (really) from another server. Flag just has such great food and service and an abundance of out of work, quality servers who need jobs. I'm not sure how this waitress was hired but I hope for her sake she's a fast learner.

If you were to ask me to sum up my experience here in a few words it would be: Consistently good. Nice atmosphere. Friendly service. My family and I have made it into Charly's on several occasions and we have always had a great time. And we will be back!

I give this place 5 stars for service and only 3 stars for the food. They gave us peaches and cream to start with our coffee. And then we ordered the cinnamon pancakes with the eggs, bacon & toast breakfast. the location is great being right in the heart of downtown flagstaff. I may have to come back and try this place for lunch or dinner. The portions are good where you can share the half stack of pancakes.

Amazing food! Best service! Ordered a Navajo taco, hands down best food! Also ordered the multiple cheese macaroni which was delicious. Also ordered a dip sandwich, with prime rib and cheese, so amazing. Everything was on point, there wasn't much of a dessert menu or drink menu available but over the food was well worth it.

Wow this place is great! I was in Flagstaff for work and this was a recommendation from my local colleagues. It's located inside the Weatherford Hotel and the decor is beautiful and interesting. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the food and drink. The service was beyond attentive and helpful and both the waiter and host were very friendly. I am vegetarian and gluten-free and while there weren't many options for me, what I ordered was phenomenal. I had a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich without the bun and sweet potato fries. I asked the waiter for a local beer recommendation and that was very good too. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the Flagstaff area!

My two favorite things about Charly's are the Arizona memorabilia on the walls and the second floor balcony that offers great views of Flagstaff. The staff is pretty shitty. Charly's has several bars, one of them had a live band and cover charge, in order to go to a different bar we were told to talk to the hostess. There were three hostess in a deep conversation about boyfriends, it would be rude to interrupt them so we just stared at them until they were ready to help us, good times. My date had some friends in the downstairs bar so we met up with them. We sat there for a good ten minutes and not one employee walked through there so we went upstairs to grab a drink. The bartender up there was bitchy and gave us attitude for trying to use a card to pay for our drinks. We scrounged up the cash and I tipped her with quarters to which she rolled her eyes. I just smiled and said "sorry, we spent it all at the titty bar." Even though I had a one star experience I'm still giving it four because I've had great times at Charly's in the past.

It's a nice place to sit outside with the pooches, but I wasn't too impressed with the food. It was ok, but nothing that memorable. We started with the French onion soup. It was served warm, but I like my soup served hot, very hot, and the temp was just above lukewarm. The broth was tasty, but the onions, well let's just say they were not cut correctly for French onion soup, they were in huge quartered chunks... someone was lazy in the kitchen, then there was the cheese...OMG I think you could have strung it across the street like a rubber band and stopped traffic. Way too much cheese. I love cheese but yowza!! My hubby's chicken sandwich was ok, the bread looked a little anemic, and it was certainly nothing to write home about. The tapenade, however, was quite good, very flavorful and a more than generous portion. I like Charly's bar, we play pool there every now and then and the atmosphere is nice and laid back, I'll just skip the restaurant for a meal, but I may get that tapenade again!

I agree with Ben S.--Charly's falls somewhere between 3.5 and 3.75 stars, but I will bump up the rating for the location and charming, laid-back ambiance. Good pricing on drinks and food, but food was just okay and service was mediocre (I think they were understaffed that evening). It was a busy night, with lots of people on the second floor and they only had one server, who doubled as the bartender and cashier. This place is located within an old, Victorian looking hotel down in the main street area. Very old Americana look and feel to the hotel which was cool. The second floor has an indoor area as well as a wrap-around balcony where it was great to have a drink and look out over the rest of old town flagstaff. They had live music which was another plus. Good experience and a fun hang-out spot!

I called to put in my take out order at 15 minutes till 5 PM. After a few "Ums", "I'm not sure's" and "I'll have to put you on hold", I was told I would have to call back at 5 and put my order in with the bartender: Torrey. I arrived at around 5:05 and my order was submitted by 5:15. My order took around 20 minutes. Not too unreasonable of a wait time. I should have checked the order while still in the restaurant. I was nearly to my destination at a traffic signal when I thought to check my order. They had given me Buffalo Wings instead of the BBQ wings I had ordered. I pulled over and called them. I spoke to Sam, she said to bring the incorrect order back in. I asked her to put in the correct order. I hoped that would reduce the wait time. I arrived around 6:10 to find the order had not been put in. The other bar staff personnel assisted me. Torrey didn't say anything. The corrected order came out at around 6:25 or so. This time I thought to check the container and discovered they had neglected to add the celery and carrots. After this - the wait staff assisting me apologized for the wait. By the time I reached my car it was 6:37 and home it was after 7:00 PM. Nearly two hours later. My husband has GERD and cannot eat this type of meal late. With the exception of the wings all of the other food was cold. We had ordered the mini burgers called sliders, at Charley's specifically because they were described as char-grilled. I sample one on the way home; they tasted pan fried. The chicken wings, while warm, were just ...well...warm. Not hot and they had just come out of the kitchen. Not particularly tender and not cooked in the sauce. I expected a crisp exterior. It appears the wings were pre-cooked, heated and then the sauce applied. The sauce was NOT cooked on the wings. There were exactly 14 of them in the order. That's 6 down from the 20 or so I thought they used to have in their platter. The current time is 7:49 and I'm thinking I might as well put the food in the garbage. I've lived in Flagstaff since 1998. I have come to Charley's a handful of times and have never had a good experience there. Reading through the older reviews it appears the timing of the food delivery, food prep, food storage, drink refilling and the general lack of professionalism on the parts of the wait staff have been pervasive issues at this place. This would be indicative of a need for better management. Coming to think of it I don't believe I can recall the presence of a manager whenever I've been there. I don't imagine the food service manager reads these reviews. That is a shame as it's a great opportunity to get feedback from the diners. The restaurant may have the location going for it, however ,were this my restaurant I would worry about becoming too complacent.

My sister had the fish and chips. She enjoyed the flavor and texture of the fish but I was not impressed with the proportions; two tiny pieces of fish came on a giant pile of fries. My BIL had a Mexican chicken burrito which came smothered in sauce and cheese with a side of tri-colored chips and melted cheese. He said it was "AWESOME!" I had the Reuben. It was MEH. There was a nice proportion of meat/cheese/kraut, unfortunately, the kraut was flavorless. I wouldn't even say half-sour. More like no-sour. I would not go back.

For some reason, Charly's thinks that they're actually Don & Charlie's. Let me tell you something -- they're truly not. Sigh. What to say about Charly's. Or as my ex-wife and I call it, "Chewy's." Charly's food is probably a step above Carl's Jr., but at the price of Don & Charlie's. I haven't been back in about a month and a half, so maybe I'm outdated in this, but the service was piss poor. The tragedy in this was the fact our daughter was graduating N.A.U. and this was our graduation supper. Certainly a memorable one, but for all the wrong reasons. Simply put, there was cotton in the tacos. A $113 meal for four could have been put to better use. Never again. PS-Please spell Charlie without the "Y" because after we finished up, that's all we could keep asking ourselves :)

Having a meal in a historic hotel on any one of 3 floors is fun. The main restaurant is on the main floor, the Gopher Hole is a pub in the basement, and the Zane Grey room is on the top floor with a balcony. Yes, there is outside seating on the balcony. I have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The staff is attentive and helpful with suggestions. The draft beer selections are always interesting. Even though this is not thought of as a Mexican restaurant, their Southwest dishes are really good. We had the Chimmichanga and Fish Tacos. For a special treat, have their HUGE plate of Nachos. Don't order the big one along with a meal unless you have a sizeable group, It makes a great group appetizer with drinks.

We are locals - Food is hit and miss - although outside area is awesome people watching area. Ordered Eggs Benedict on Sunday and the eggs were medium at best - no ozzy egg yolk that should have been there - so sad. Maybe half of the wait staff is decent - the other half clueless. We keep going back because of the patio space - wish we could recommend for the food. Do not sit in the bar for lunch - it will be slow slow slow service.

Charly's is a fun place! They have a small but tasty happy hour menu and the prices are just right. Also lots of things going on during the week. I suggest sitting upstairs and outside. You get a nice view of downtown Flagstaff. Will definitely return!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Charly's! I mostly come here to drink at the bar areas. I have eaten here only one time and it was pretty good, but I can't comment much on the restaurant. However, I have been to the bars here plenty of times and I love it! It's right downtown on a busy corner street which makes for great people watching. I hung out in the bar downstairs a few times where we've had cheap drinks and some free tacos!! Yum! Can't go wrong with free tacos! Here, you can play pool or dance the night away! I mostly come here after bar hopping around and head to the upstairs bar. Sometimes it may have a band or even a wedding reception that is ending in the Zane Grey Ballroom. It is usually really busy, but the drinks are surprisingly cheap. They always have fresh popcorn and there is a huge patio outside to watch the city. Overall, this is a place I must go to every time I'm in Flagstaff! I hope you check it out and like it as much as me!

This review is mainly for the bar areas. I've eaten at the restaurant and it was pretty good, but not great. I'd give the food three stars. What I love to go here for are the bars, particularly the upstairs bar. Very cool scene up there, whether you are inside where it is warm or out on the balcony checking out the heart of downtown Flagstaff. They always seem to have good drink specials, even after happy hour. I've seen people have their wedding reception in the Zane Grey Ballroom upstairs and thought it was a very cool idea. In the mood for dancing, live music, shooting pool, or eating free tacos on Friday night? Check out the bar downstairs. Great scene there too! One of my favorite things about this bar? They have a creeper shot (sneaky photo) of Edward Abbey drinking a beer in the bar from the early '90s, not too long before his death. Very cool. You can find it downstairs near the bathroom.

This review is just for the bar area itself. We went in on a busy Saturday night. There was one waitress working but we weren't ever acknowleged by her. After waiting about 20 minutes we ordered our drinks from the bar. I give them two stars since they had complimentary fresh popcorn available. We stopped here since it was on the Ale Trail but there's so many other great places to go in Flagstaff we won't be back here again.

Overall not impressed. The ambience was one of the only positive parts, which is amazing. My family couldn't get over it, it's a historic building with a nice fireplace. We ate on the main floor in the dining area, there is also a bar upstairs and downstairs with the same menu. Our server was obviously new, he asked us if we wanted dessert when we were still chewing halfway through our meal. I understand new servers but he also had a girl following him around which was awkward because she was never introduced and never debriefed us why they were tag teaming us. Besides the weird service, the food was okay and definitely not worth the price. The salmon I got was overcooked (22$) and the only sides offered are three different kinds of potatoes wtf? And I'm paying for what? The rib eye my dad got was tough, not a good cut, although they did cook it well (24$). My mom got baby back ribs and they were overcooked, wouldn't ever get them again (20$). She pretended they were okay. My dad enjoyed the spinach salad though. Overall would not recommend, unless you want to get a drink and some dessert. Although I ordered a Hendricks and tonic and it tasted like tonic because it was a tall, and an extremely light pour. I was disappointed. Their homemade apple pie was delicious though.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere, great drinks! Instead of going back to Las Vegas after the Grand Canyon, we decided to make the shorter trip to Flagstaff for a night. It was nice and we happened upon Charly's. I was having cheese cravings- not sharp cheeses like Cheddar or Gouda but more of a sweeter cheese like Ricotta or Mozzarella. Charly's Spinach Dip hit the spot. Perfectly creamy, perfectly cheesy and perfectly crispy baguette rounds. The fiance and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Also, Flagstaff was surprisingly colder than we had expected, and we had not planned for that. So I got a Hot Apple Pie (Apple Cider + Tuaca) as we sat by the fire. It was the perfect end to a long day, and a perfect way to counter the cold temperature outside. The service was also fantastic- very nice, not pushy, good advice, very helpful and accommodating, refilled our drinks when necessary, etc. It was a very pleasant experience. My few hours in Flagstaff made me want to stay for the rest of our vacation and Charly's was a good contributor to that.

Charly's wooed me with its period-true exterior in this fabulously old western hotel, then dumped me in the gutter like a wet cigar butt. The food was very expensive and disproportionately mediocre. In fact, it was below the Mendoza line.. I'd have to call it very poor. I suffered through a $10 Navajo taco the meat mixture was as bland as a 1950's cookbook, though the actual fry bread was good. My wife had a crushingly sub-par beef dip. Over cooked and dry, my wife took it and fed it to some grateful reservation dogs later in the day. The service was young and sprite but inefficient. The interior was OK, but done in the inglorious 1970's Victorian-re-do style. Much better choices in beautiful downtown Flagstaff.

Limited space + an itty-bitty shower are completely made up for in kitsch + historic appeal here. This bar/hotel (only 11 rooms!) was the perfect place to stay for a Saturday night in downtown Flagstaff: It's within walking distance of countless bars, little shops + weekend events. Granted, there's limited parking so you have to catch it right, otherwise it's a trek. I wish the weather would've cooperated to enjoy the wrap around porch, but the second floor bar was warm + cozy. The hot chocolate + Bailey's didn't let me down either. I'll definitely be back!

Stopped in for a quick dinner and drinks. My wife had a lemon drop martini. I will bow down and say it was better than mine, which my wife says are the best. Granted, mine are good but these we're amazing! My wife had the taco salad and her only complaint was the salsa was "too hot" for her. I like spicy and did find it a bit spicy for a salad. I had the sliders and they were excellent. What a fantastic historic building to see when you're visiting Flagstaff. Didn't realize until after we finished, there is also service upstairs in the bar. Super cool place.

Breakfast here= GROSS. Mimosas=DELISH! Do not order their potatoes as a side here see if there is a substitute before you dive into some of their stale home fries or diced potatoes. I really wish they would just make hash browns those would have been so much better. I ordered an omelet and the waitress didnt ask me what kind of cheese i had wanted and i totally spaced about asking. So when my omelet came out it tasted absolutely disgusting. no flavor and no cheese. AWESOME

Another historic building in Flagstaff boasts casual dining and a bar with a pretty neato view of the downtown area. Specific review for the Zane Grey Ballroom patio area, has that wrap around porch/veranda reminiscent of Bourbon Street, three floors up. Being there on a Saturday night, it was PACKED and the waiter service was slow as molasses in January. I ordered a veggie burger (decent, nothing amazing then again always hard pressed to find a stellar Veg Burger) and a side salad (gotta save carb room for drinking!) I felt bad for the waitress as she was the only one serving the upstairs, so needless to say our food took FOREVER, but she was friendly so it was fine. Plus the little bar upstairs was NOT slow, so it was a good time.

This place is great but one of the bartenders is extremely rude. Despite tipping her 30% all night, she had a very hostile and angry attitude. You will immediately recognize her by her "I'm doing you a favor by serving you" demeanor. She has glasses btw. Other than that everyone was very welcoming and the nachos were excellent.

Had breakfast here with the beau while on vacation in Flagstaff. Nice setting inside the Hotel Weatherford. The menu was on the small side, but adequate for breakfast -- about 10 or so breakfast offerings and many in a Southwest style. The restaurant (and hotel) are quaintly Victorian with high ceilings, historic photos on the walls and rich carpets and wallpapers. The place was clean and well-staffed. While we waited for our orders the server brought us complimentary shot glasses of canned peaches with whipped cream & a sprinkling of cinnamon. That was a nice, unexpected touch. I got huevos rancheros that were served with a huge, hot fresh flour tortilla the size of a truck steering wheel! The BF ordered some egg dish that came with a HUGE thick, juicy ham steak. Both were excellent and I can't say anything bad about the food. His freshly squeezed OJ was weak and kind of bitter but that happens sometimes with fresh oranges and the server took it back and comped it. All in all, a nice, upscale place for breakfast with interesting street views, solid food offerings and great service.

I went here for my 21st birthday. The bartender checked my ID and it took awhile because I just turned 21 half an hour ago. He just smiled. So I thought maybe it was unusual for people to hit the bar once they turn 21. I must be a crazy person. Too excited to become 21. I like the furniture design. It's so nice! It wasn't as crowded on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The service was pretty cool. I had fun on my birthday! My friend and i had the same birthday so we got a free drink (both splitting it).

You have not experienced Flagstaff until you go to Charlies! Bring your friends, family and even kids can enjoy the view of the peaks from the Zan Grey balcony upstairs. Their food is amazing and they have tones of drinks to choose from. This is also a great place to take a date to; a nice dinner, live local music & right in the middle of down town flagstaff! It is a very unique laid back kind of place, you won't have to wait in a line to get in or change your shoes cause they have a scuff on them. This place really captures the essence and personality of Flagstaff. Everyone is supper friendly and inviting day and night.

Downtown Flagstaff has this old vibe which is great. This place is part of the Weatherly Hotel, which is an amazing in itself. I came to this restaurant just because I was only here for a night and this place was recommended on Yelp. I am only rating the food here. The service and ambiance was nice, but when I am going to go get something to eat, I want the food to be at least decent. I got the spinach salad and french dip. The salad was $9, and for that price, I expect more than 20 leaves. The eggs tasted a bit old. I wasn't happy about that, but I had to eat it, as when I am on vacation, I have trouble eating veggies, so I had to finish it (not that it was hard because there was so little). The french dip was ok, even if a bit on the salty side. I'd say I'd never eat here again, but that is probably because I'll probably never go to Flagstaff again.

Husband fell in love with the burger here. I tend to more of a pain in the butt when it comes to eating out because I'm always on some crazy low-carb/no sugar/no starch/no dairy diet, and here's the reason I will continue to go to Charly's when I'm in Flagstaff: They accommodated me. No attitude, no painful sigh, no eye rolling. They helped me with a SMILE. I will always eat at this historic restaurant, and hangout in the awesome upstairs lounge. Great place, great service.

We weren't quite ready to head back to Camp Verde after dinner at nearby Monsoon, so based on a recommendation from our server at Monsoon, we stopped in at Charlie's for a nightcap. We took note that the host at Charley's told one party that there was a 45 minute wait for a dinner table. But anyway, we walked over to the bar section with a jukebox and pool table. I ordered a "hardcore cider". JP had an Alaska Amber Ale. I thought my cider was great (it didn't have that much of a kick though), however JP thought it was kinda sweet. Relaxed environs with speed and friendly table service. Wide variety of clientele. Damn, that one older guy over at the pool table. He sank all his solids before his partner could even take a whack at her stripes.

My girlfriend brought me on a date here and their steak is delicious! A pretty big steak and cooked to order. I loved the au jus sauce that it came with, very flavorful. The mash potatoes was pretty good too. A bit pricey, but it was steak. The big disappointment was the bar. The kilt-lifter was good, but its beer... can't mess that up.. or can you? Their Guinness was super flat and was just not satisfying. The worst pint of Guinness I have ever had. I was also not a fan of their plastic cups that they served our beers in. But.... they have free popcorn!

WE DID NOT EAT HERE! We entered for brunch, it was reasonably busy but empty tables so we stood uncomfortably waiting to be seated. After being ignored repeadly, I told a waitress we wanted a table for two. Were told, to go through and check with the seater - who also was the manager. Waited at the his station, reading menu as he went past us 4-5 times before I finally had to ask him for a table. His answer "It will be about 20 mins". No apologies, no feeling like he ever wanted to sit us, more like we were an inconvenience. Despite having empty tables, they obviously are incapable of handling business. Went elsewhere and had a great coffee and breakfast burrito.

My favorite chill place to go. The crowd is definitely older, no club dancin' here. Lots of local bands come through though and yes, there is dancing. Great service, the bartenders have been all been there for a while. Tasty nachos when you are drinking a bunch of beer. Free popcorn..that's a definite plus. I love going here with friends to start off the night!

This place is really nice. Great atmosphere in the historic hotel, nice porches and spacious upstairs for dining. Best Navajo taco in town, covered in grilled vegetables. The whole order is more food than anyone should ever eat. Nights often have interesting music, and the bar crowd seems more relaxed than average. I've never seen it overcrowded. I once stopped in after a David Grisman concert at the Orpheum. A group of acoustic musicians were on stage, and shortly after David's back up band arrived with instruments in hand. A great night of music followed. Wish I could bring Charley's down to Tucson. Might be the best bar in Arizona.

Never again! While exploring the downtown area, we were drawn in for lunch by how cool the old building looked. Unfortunately, the historic architecture is where the niceties stopped for us. Our hostess was pleasant, but our waitress was awful, just like the food we were about to get. She brought us waters after taking our orders, and little did we know that would be the only water we would get. She never came by to refill our glasses once, and I would have asked for some had she come by more than just to drop off our food and deliver our check. Both my husband and I got sandwiches, him with the fruit, me with the sweet onion soup. My soup came first, and everything in it was raw. The onions were not even close to cooked, and it was garnished with raw carrots, red cabbage and some unidentifiable green stuff, possibly parsley. The broth was watery and tasted like diluted canned stuff. I sipped on what I could get down because the meal was costing us so much, but when one of the many flies that were buzzing around our table landed in it, I was done. Our sandwiches came and mine didn't even meet my lowest expectations. Dry, stale sourdough bread, two thin slices of turkey, a slice of cheese, and two slices of tomato. No mayo, no mustard, no "red pepper spread" they claimed it would have. I would have gladly brought it up to our waitress, but where was she? Lord only knows. Not at our table, that's for sure. My husband was equally unimpressed with his chicken something-or-other that he ordered. When our waitress finally reappeared to deliver our bill, suddenly cheery now that her tip was on the line, we couldn't wait to get out of there. We never, EVER leave without giving a tip, but there's a first time for everything. I'm sorry, but $30 worth of bad service and even worse food does not add up to a generous gratuity. I don't care if we are starving and they are the only restaurant open, we are never going back.

Stopped into Charly's for some Smithwicks and some Irish car bombs. We didn't get any food but I can say that the bartender was really nice and the place is nice and clean with a really cool list of old scotch and whiskey.

Always walked past this place and made a mental note that I was going to eat/stay there. After a coupe hours of Oktoberfest, the boyfriend and I decided to walk around downtown Flagstaff and find a place to eat, we decided on Charly's. We decided since it was SO beautiful outside that we would eat outside on the 2nd story. We each had 2 drinks and then decided to order dinner ( On saturdays they don't serve dinner up there till 5Pm) Our server was awesome, she was very attentive and was very sweet. She went out of our way to please us. Service was wonderful, this is a place to go to have a drink and enjoy the Flagstaff weather.

This review is a few months past due.. I live in Phoenix and love to escape up to Flagstaff any time I can to escape the heat. In May A friend and I ventured into Charley's one night on our tour de bars and was quickly greeted by Chelsie behind the bar. She talked us into trying one of her specialty "Jalepeno Margaritas" and i must say.. after about 2-3 each we never wanted to leave. THese things are HANDS DOWN the BEST margaritas to ever touch your mouth. We had plans to try out somewhere new the next night but couldnt get those Jalepeno Margs off our mind. so we stumbled back in there. She let us know she had brought in Blackberries that night to make some blackberry margs for us to try out as well adn boy did she not disappoint! She tols us she had been working there for 15 years and brought in the jalepenos and blackberries out of her own pocket to just experiment and have some fun. We went back about a month or so later but she wasnt working. I hope on our next trip we can catch her on a night she is there becasue we have been raving about those Jalepeno Margs since! ONly negative was the out dated, out of tune band they had playing that night, but live music is better than no music still!

After what seemed like hours of walking around downtown Flagstaff searching for a place to dine with a patio that could accomodate my canine companion, we finally got seated at Charley's. I'm so glad we did! What a great experience... large selection of beer, if you are so inclined, including some offerings of the region. Also, Beam shots on special, since I was so inclined. Ha. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, attentive and quick, and the other guests on the patio were delightful. The restaurant is on the bottom level of Hotel Weatherford in downtown Flagstaff, so you have a great view of what's going on if you sit outside. Walter (the dog) was even served his own dish of water... and that's great service. He had his own chair and everything. I was most impressed with how well we were treated at Charley's!

I only gave this place a 3 star review because they hold the annual pine cone drop for new years eve, and the ambiance was cute. Kind of old-time saloony. The food took forever to come, and the table that was seated after us that had just as many people got their order before us, and was finished eating before we got our food. Kind of annoying. Then the food was just so-so. Nothing great. I had a beef dip with fries, and had asked the waitress if I could do 1/2 french fries half onion rings and she just said no. OK, well it doesn't hurt to ask... even though I am sure they probably could. None of the people at my table, out of 6, enjoyed their food that much. So, 3 stars it is.

The food is sub-par. The service is okay. The management was actually very good. I rarely write about management in my reviews, but I was impressed on my visit to Charlie's. It's kind of embarrassing, but I was having one of those "where to eat" fights with my girlfriend. I was in a bad mood because by the time we decided on Charlie's I WAS STARVING!!! I put on my face for the waitress, but in between her visits I wanted to rip my hair out with frustration. The food did take a little while, but it wasn't a big deal. I can't be sure, but I think the manager picked up on my body language (embarrassing since I was acting like an asshole). He apologized for the wait and offered me coffee and dessert on the house. I'll give Charlie's another chance because of him. We'll see if the next thing I order is any better.

Really I'd go 3.75 stars, but I'll bump them to 4. Located in the lobby of the Weatherford Hotel the decor is very charming and it's a comfortable atmosphere. We arrived and there was a group of "mature" gentlemen at another table discussing how they were going to vote in the election. I get the sense that's the kind of place it is - a gathering place for folks to linger, chat and discuss. Service was charming but rather slow, especially considering there were only about 3 tables occupied and the voters finished and left before our food arrived anyhow. The food was o.k. Nicely presented and the powdered sugar on the pancakes was a nice touch as was the complimentary peaches and cream appetizer.

Two of the three bars here were open on Saturday night. We went into the one in the back of the hotel with a stage. Seems that one of the bars (likely the best) was being remodeled? Anyway, we watched a local band play and enjoyed several good drinks. Flavored Smirnoff Vodka was on special for 2.50 - felt like I was stealing... One of the few bars downtown we found that wasn't packed to the rafters with college kids :) The hotel itself looked really cool. A clerk told us about a few of the many ghost stories. I will probably stay here on my next visit.

Charley's did it right. A large party of us came to Charley's for a friend's birthday dinner and everything went smooth as silk. When rolling 23 people into a place I always expect some type of hiccup, but not here. They sat us in a room off to the side with a bar and bathrooms to ourselves. Good idea given the surly nature of my friends. We only had one waiter for the lot of us, but she did an admirable job of keeping everything under control and refilling drinks. The beer selection was good, I believe there were around 7-8 taps with regular American beers and some craft brews. I had a few Lagunitas IPAs that were great. For appetizers we went with the Charley's Baked Dip. I was pleasantly surprised to find that for the large amount of "dip" we received there was more than enough baked bread chips. It was creamy, cheesy and delicious. My dinner companion got the NY Strip (Rare) and I ordered the Veggie Chimichanga. Of note, the black beans and rice that came with the chimichanga were great. The salsa was also pretty good. I questioned a few of my friends at the table and none had any complaints about their entrees. Would definitely come back for a visit while in the wooded north of Arizona!

The family (dog included) spent the day in Flagstaff getting away from the heat in the Valley. We tried several places that we were told were dog friendly but were turned away. We stumbled across Charly's while exploring the Heritage Square area. The staff gladly accomodate us and our large dog. We had a great meal and a much needed beer. The service was outstanding as was the food.

Enjoyed a decent lunch here with "the girls". We were greeted and seated quickly. Drinks arrived momentarily even though they were very busy that day. I had a seared ahi sandwich, done perfectly, and a good-sized piece o' fish, at that. What else can you say about fruit salad, except that it tasted fresh? Only one person in our party didn't care for her taco salad...don't think it was what she was expecting. Kudos to the waitstaff for graciously fitting in 2 latecomers to our party. Would like to come back again for dinner and check out the upstairs or bar areas that others have commented on.

This was perhaps the worst food and worst service I have experienced in years. We went for a BDAY party with a large crowd. Our tea was never refilled and the second glasses of wine were never delivered. Desert was forgotten after ordered so I had to go and inquire in the kitchen as Adam was nowhere to be found the entire evening. Adam was the worst server I have ever had period. He neglected the table the entire evening and then we were forced to give this chump 18%?!?!?! The prime rib was supposed to be medium rare but came out like it had been nuked in the microwave and had not one spot of red anywhere. What a waste of money and time. The food is terrible compared to other restaurants in the area, so do your homework before deciding to dine and spend your money there in the evening. STEER CLEAR!!!!

I feel a little guilty writing a review, because I am stuck on one menu item. I really like Charly's. During the summer, it's a great place to sit on the patio and watch the "parade" that is Flagstaff pass by. In the winter,the fireplace will be going and it is very charming. Now, the meal I crave is the Navaho Taco. It's just so dang good, and I know that my friends that live in Flag often order it also. To go with it for a Sunday lunch, Charley's makes the best Bloody Mary I've ever had - infused with jalapeño, of course (and this isn't even one of my favorite drinks). The wait staff is always so friendly, and the place is dog-friendly, too. It's just a cool place.....charming, funky, friendly, historic.

This is my favorit bar in downtown Flagstaff if you want to get away from the college scene. The balcony in the winter gives a great view while having some drinks and enjoying the snow covered city. The only bar downtown that knows how to make an old fashion.

This is one of my favorite places to go downtown. The drinks are usually well made. I've had some really friendly bartenders and the atmosphere pretty much makes this place. When it gets busy it's never jam-packed like a sardine can but still noticeably active. I haven't tried a lot of their food but what I have had is good. It can be a bit pricy but definitely a good hang out place.

I do believe the name of the restaurant is misspelled. It should be "Charly's." I had the 1/2 burger medium rare with onions and mushrooms for about $9.00. (I could be a bit off on that). I chose a side salad for my side item and it was high quality. The ranch was good and the salad itself was fresh. The burger came with ketchup, tomato, lettuce, and a pickle on the side. The bun was also of noticeable high quality. It was a great burger. I gave it only 4/5 stars because the food was a bit pricey.

I like Charley's. First off, I love the mispelling, second off, free taco fridays are a great way to end the week with friends. Their beer selection is very nice, and the place has a very down to earth vibe about it. Also, the bartenders know how to pour beer mixtures, and do them properly. Great place, great times.

Charley's is as classic downtown Flagstaff as you can get. Not only is the ambience extremely inviting and warm but the food is amazing as well. Choose from classic Northern Arizona dishes like Navajo Taco's or pork posole. Or go for something more traditional like a burger, French onion soup or Nachos. It is really rare to find fine dining in such a casual relaxed environment with prices to match (think $10 lunch entree). The restaurant takes up the majority of the bottom floor, but there are all three bars on site. I think you'll enjoy!

3, 3, 3 bars in one!!!! Charley's was a staple during the college years. Whether it was seeing music down in the main hall, grabbing a quick pint at the Exchange Pub, or tying one on at the Zane Grey, Charley's always felt like home. The food is a great and the atmosphere is unmatched in the city. They've got a large selection of beers on tap and the bartenders know how to pour a proper drink. If you're looking for a bit of the old west and something to quench your thirst/hunger, Charley's is a can't miss stop in Flagstaff.

Convenient downtown location - we stayed at an inn a few blocks from here. A friend recommended the place to us and we weren't disappointed. We had a group of nine and they accommodated us pretty well. It's not a huge place, so reservations are recommended. Most of the fare (tex-mex) is reasonably priced; the specials were overpriced - especially for a casual dining place like this. But we had an overall good experience with the waitstaff and the portions were healthy.

Cool lunch spot. Pretty comprehensive menu. I admit, I had a hard time deciding what to order. Then I settled on the Aspen - a chicken sandwich with guac. Seemed simple enough. I had their Soup de Jour, too, a potato cream soup. It was oh-so-yummy, esp. sitting outside on the patio in the chilly (yes!) November air. To top it off, an Apricot Ale. Soup = good! (wish I had ordered a bowl) Beer = mmm! Aspen (sandwich) = okay. I wasn't expecting having to rip the chicken breast apart with my front teeth. Price = reasonable for 2 people and a generous tip. Waiter = amusing. His blase honesty cracked me up. Location = very cool, esp. sitting outside on the patio, watching the foot traffic, listening to the sounds of a quaint little downtown. Overall = good! 4 stars. This would be a great place to check out during evening time, when you can nestle close to the bar and drink to your little heart's content.

Ok, don't be confused by the neon sign, this place is not some crappy diner. It's a real restaurant with fine wines and aged meats. This place is great if you wanna get some great food and serious atmosphere for say a first date. One thing to remember, place is kinda pricey...one can easily spend 50-60 bucks. Good service and great food, but remember wear something nice or you will definitely feel out of place.

After a few disappointing meals in Flag, we ended up at Charly's for dinner. They had a wonderful selection of draft beer to select from. My husband and I both had the Navajo taco. I had the veggie (small size) and my husband had the beef (normal size). We both loved our dinner, although my husband said he would order the smaller size next time. Our kids loved their food as well. The service was also good. We will definitely return next time we go to Flagstaff!

This is a great place to stop into in Flag, esepcially on a cold winter night, you can sit near the fire, devour their delicious French onion soup, all in the comfort of the Weatherford Hotel. The whole building is historic, full of charm, and has this buzz about it. After you've finished dining on Charley's fare, head up the creaky wooden steps to the Zane Grey ballroom for some delicious cocktails and conversation.

my husband and i went here for his birthday. they have a fantastic friday happy hour: free tacos and $12 pitchers of lagunitas.i could make better crunchy tacos at home but not for free. they have one pool table ($1.00 per game). when we were there, there was a decent local live band and lots of nice people to share pitchers and games of pool with. we were not disappointed and will be coming back.

A historic establishment in the heart of downtown Flagstaff, the menu is nothing fancy; its just simply good ol' western cooking. Try your choice of steak and cup of green chili pork stew when in season. Also, enjoy a pre or post dinner drink at the full bar upstairs with balcony seating!

Great place to stop for a happy hour cocktail on a Saturday afternoon. Was with 2 girlfriends and their dogs and it was excellent that they allowed us to enjoy their outdoor sidewalk seating area. The cocktails hit the spot and the baked dip was delish! The services was fantastic, our waiter kept refilling the dog's water bowl which he provided as soon as we arrived. The sidewalk seating was ideal for people watching! :)

We had to check out the 111 year old Hotel Weatherford (what a nice building!) just to for a look, and of course Charly's Pub (which is on the lower level of the hotel) just for a drink. I've met some interesting people and have seen some interesting music played live here.Great memories all; Ska, Reagge, Cloe from Venice and this night an Irish Band jam session. Lots of seating and a nice bar with interactive bartenders, one pool table and a modern jukebox. Probably, in my opinion, the coolest bar in Flagstaff.

Charley's is a fantastic bar and restaurant on the groundfloor of the historic Weatherford Hotel in the center of downtown Flagstaff. Charley's has abundant free popcorn, live local bands, and to-die-for nachos. There are tons of beers on tap and a free taco happy hour on Fridays. Honey Brown is the best deal at Charley's, which is permanently on special at $2.50 a pint. The atmostphere is friendly and diverse, this is definitely not a college bar. You can also head upstairs to the Zane Grey Ballroom, which has a beatifully restored bar and balcony from which you can smoke, drink, and observe the Flagstaff nightlife from an ideal perch. You can also roam the hallways of the historic hotel, which is rumored to be haunted by numerous ghosts, most notably a honeymoon couple that were murdered in their beds back in Flagstaff's Wild West days. Charley's is MUST when visiting or going out in Flagstaff.

This is my favorit bar in downtown Flagstaff if you want to get away from the college scene. The balcony in the winter gives a great view while having some drinks and enjoying the snow covered city. The only bar downtown that knows how to make an old fashion.

This is one of my favorite places to go downtown. The drinks are usually well made. I've had some really friendly bartenders and the atmosphere pretty much makes this place. When it gets busy it's never jam-packed like a sardine can but still noticeably active. I haven't tried a lot of their food but what I have had is good. It can be a bit pricy but definitely a good hang out place.

I do believe the name of the restaurant is misspelled. It should be "Charly's." I had the 1/2 burger medium rare with onions and mushrooms for about $9.00. (I could be a bit off on that). I chose a side salad for my side item and it was high quality. The ranch was good and the salad itself was fresh. The burger came with ketchup, tomato, lettuce, and a pickle on the side. The bun was also of noticeable high quality. It was a great burger. I gave it only 4/5 stars because the food was a bit pricey.

I like Charley's. First off, I love the mispelling, second off, free taco fridays are a great way to end the week with friends. Their beer selection is very nice, and the place has a very down to earth vibe about it. Also, the bartenders know how to pour beer mixtures, and do them properly. Great place, great times.

Charley's is as classic downtown Flagstaff as you can get. Not only is the ambience extremely inviting and warm but the food is amazing as well. Choose from classic Northern Arizona dishes like Navajo Taco's or pork posole. Or go for something more traditional like a burger, French onion soup or Nachos. It is really rare to find fine dining in such a casual relaxed environment with prices to match (think $10 lunch entree). The restaurant takes up the majority of the bottom floor, but there are all three bars on site. I think you'll enjoy!

3, 3, 3 bars in one!!!! Charley's was a staple during the college years. Whether it was seeing music down in the main hall, grabbing a quick pint at the Exchange Pub, or tying one on at the Zane Grey, Charley's always felt like home. The food is a great and the atmosphere is unmatched in the city. They've got a large selection of beers on tap and the bartenders know how to pour a proper drink. If you're looking for a bit of the old west and something to quench your thirst/hunger, Charley's is a can't miss stop in Flagstaff.

Convenient downtown location - we stayed at an inn a few blocks from here. A friend recommended the place to us and we weren't disappointed. We had a group of nine and they accommodated us pretty well. It's not a huge place, so reservations are recommended. Most of the fare (tex-mex) is reasonably priced; the specials were overpriced - especially for a casual dining place like this. But we had an overall good experience with the waitstaff and the portions were healthy.

The place was full tables, and bar so we ventured to the balcony...it was like being in New Orleans and I'm sure if I lived in Flagstaff it wouldnt rate as well but visiting and it being my first time...it was fun for the night.

Cool lunch spot. Pretty comprehensive menu. I admit, I had a hard time deciding what to order. Then I settled on the Aspen - a chicken sandwich with guac. Seemed simple enough. I had their Soup de Jour, too, a potato cream soup. It was oh-so-yummy, esp. sitting outside on the patio in the chilly (yes!) November air. To top it off, an Apricot Ale. Soup = good! (wish I had ordered a bowl) Beer = mmm! Aspen (sandwich) = okay. I wasn't expecting having to rip the chicken breast apart with my front teeth. Price = reasonable for 2 people and a generous tip. Waiter = amusing. His blase honesty cracked me up. Location = very cool, esp. sitting outside on the patio, watching the foot traffic, listening to the sounds of a quaint little downtown. Overall = good! 4 stars. This would be a great place to check out during evening time, when you can nestle close to the bar and drink to your little heart's content.

How does a combination of cinnamon butter pancakes and drinking at the bar owned by Wyatt Earp sound? Improbable? Not at Charlys! The pancakes were light, fluffy and plentiful! The coffee was constantly poured and was great. Fresh fruit completed a nice breakfast.

Ok, don't be confused by the neon sign, this place is not some crappy diner. It's a real restaurant with fine wines and aged meats. This place is great if you wanna get some great food and serious atmosphere for say a first date. One thing to remember, place is kinda pricey...one can easily spend 50-60 bucks. Good service and great food, but remember wear something nice or you will definitely feel out of place.

After a few disappointing meals in Flag, we ended up at Charly's for dinner. They had a wonderful selection of draft beer to select from. My husband and I both had the Navajo taco. I had the veggie (small size) and my husband had the beef (normal size). We both loved our dinner, although my husband said he would order the smaller size next time. Our kids loved their food as well. The service was also good. We will definitely return next time we go to Flagstaff!

The staff were accomodating but busy as there were a lot of people there. The food was good, but not great, and perhaps not quite in line with the prices. Would I eat there again? This is a great place to stop into in Flag, esepcially on a cold winter night, you can sit near the fire, devour their delicious French onion soup, all in the comfort of the Weatherford Hotel. The whole building is historic, full of charm, and has this buzz about it. After you've finished dining on Charley's fare, head up the creaky wooden steps to the Zane Grey ballroom for some delicious cocktails and conversation.

my husband and i went here for his birthday. they have a fantastic friday happy hour: free tacos and $12 pitchers of lagunitas.i could make better crunchy tacos at home but not for free. they have one pool table ($1.00 per game). when we were there, there was a decent local live band and lots of nice people to share pitchers and games of pool with. we were not disappointed and will be coming back.

A historic establishment in the heart of downtown Flagstaff, the menu is nothing fancy; its just simply good ol' western cooking. Try your choice of steak and cup of green chili pork stew when in season. Also, enjoy a pre or post dinner drink at the full bar upstairs with balcony seating!

Great place to stop for a happy hour cocktail on a Saturday afternoon. Was with 2 girlfriends and their dogs and it was excellent that they allowed us to enjoy their outdoor sidewalk seating area. The cocktails hit the spot and the baked dip was delish! The services was fantastic, our waiter kept refilling the dog's water bowl which he provided as soon as we arrived. We had to check out the 111 year old Hotel Weatherford (what a nice building!) just to for a look, and of course Charly's Pub (which is on the lower level of the hotel) just for a drink. I've met some interesting people and have seen some interesting music played live here.Great memories all; Ska, Reagge, Cloe from Venice and this night an Irish Band jam session. Lots of seating and a nice bar with interactive bartenders, one pool table and a modern jukebox. Probably, in my opinion, the coolest bar in Flagstaff.

Charley's is a fantastic bar and restaurant on the groundfloor of the historic Weatherford Hotel in the center of downtown Flagstaff. Charley's has abundant free popcorn, live local bands, and to-die-for nachos. There are tons of beers on tap and a free taco happy hour on Fridays. Honey Brown is the best deal at Charley's, which is permanently on special at $2.50 a pint. The atmostphere is friendly and diverse, this is definitely not a college bar. You can also head upstairs to the Zane Grey Ballroom, which has a beatifully restored bar and balcony from which you can smoke, drink, and observe the Flagstaff nightlife from an ideal perch. You can also roam the hallways of the historic hotel, which is rumored to be haunted by numerous ghosts, most notably a honeymoon couple that were murdered in their beds back in Flagstaff's Wild West days. Charley's is MUST when visiting or going out in Flagstaff.

My husband and I ate dinner there last night and it was one of the best meals we ever had! We have to give our compliments to the Chef Jake. We had 2 different chicken dishes. I had Chicken and pasta and my husband had the weekly special mushroom stuffed chicken. After the very sweet waitress told Jake how much we loved his food he came out to say Hi and thank us and tell us more about the dishes. He said he foraged the mushrooms himself! This young chef obviously loves what he does and has a passion for it. You can taste it in his wonderful dishes. They were also offering bottles of wine to purchase for your meal. It was Canyon Road a California vineyard. We got the Pinot Noir, and loved it! Well as you can see we were happy with our dining experience and wish Jake the best of luck in his career. Navajo taco should be called Navajo Tostada. Kind of like an elephant ear with taco dressing on it. Seemed ok and worth a try. Sounds more interesting with the zagat recommendation. The food was good but the services was not. There were only a couple of people in there when we went in for breakfast. We ordered the Navajo Taco, French Toast, and Pancakes. It took forever to get our drinks (tea and coffee) and then took a really long time to get our food. The waitress was not interested in being there. When she brought our bill, she didn't bother to clear away any of our dirty plates. When she came back to pick up the credit card she still didn't clear anything. I'm giving it three stars because the food was good but the staff sure could use some training.

The only times I really eat here is for munchies with drinks. The nachos and sliders are the best! But on occasion, on days that I crave French onion soup, this is where I can get it! Tons of good crusty and bubbly cheese with the delish onion broth that is flavorful and never want of seasoning. It comes with the house brown bread that is so good. It sounds silly, but they have tomato salad dressing that I LOVE, and so my usual meal is the soup and a salad. An excellent meal at that!

Went there for lunch with my visiting parents who usually expect great food whenever they come up to Flag, but not so at Charly's. We were greeted hesitantly by one host who said it would be a wait, then another hostess came up to the stand moments later and claimed she had no idea what he was talking about and sat us right away. Passing numerous empty tables she took us to the other side of the restaurant, the furthest from the entrance and not really part of the main dining area. It was empty. There wasn't even music. That was fine though, as we were sat by a window so the ambience was okay. Our waitress was another story. It seems as though she may not have ever served in a restaurant before. It seems as though she may not have ever EATEN in a restaurant before. Everything she said seemed hesitant. She asked us if we would like something to drink, except she phrased it "Can I get you anything besides water...like...soda?" It was odd to say the least. Water was fast but the two bloody mary's ordered took probably 20 minutes and were mediocre at best. I had to get up and find her to make sure she hadn't forgotten our table since it was way in the back and we not one single employee walked through the area except our waitress (and that was probably 3 times). Food came out, no silverware. Waitress: "Oh, I guess you might need silverware?" What was happening inside her head is beyond me. Food was mediocre. My mom and I had the Navajo Taco which is overpriced and underwhelming. Asked for a side of sour cream. Got it moments before the check (really) from another server. Flag just has such great food and service and an abundance of out of work, quality servers who need jobs. I'm not sure how this waitress was hired but I hope for her sake she's a fast learner.

I give this place 5 stars for service and only 3 stars for the food. They gave us peaches and cream to start with our coffee. And then we ordered the cinnamon pancakes with the eggs, bacon & toast breakfast. the location is great being right in the heart of downtown flagstaff. I may have to come back and try this place for lunch or dinner. The portions are good where you can share the half stack of pancakes.

Wow this place is great! I was in Flagstaff for work and this was a recommendation from my local colleagues. It's located inside the Weatherford Hotel and the decor is beautiful and interesting. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the food and drink. The service was beyond attentive and helpful and both the waiter and host were very friendly. I am vegetarian and gluten-free and while there weren't many options for me, what I ordered was phenomenal. I had a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich without the bun and sweet potato fries. I asked the waiter for a local beer recommendation and that was very good too. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the Flagstaff area!

My two favorite things about Charly's are the Arizona memorabilia on the walls and the second floor balcony that offers great views of Flagstaff. The staff is pretty shitty. Charly's has several bars, one of them had a live band and cover charge, in order to go to a different bar we were told to talk to the hostess. There were three hostess in a deep conversation about boyfriends, it would be rude to interrupt them so we just stared at them until they were ready to help us, good times. My date had some friends in the downstairs bar so we met up with them. We sat there for a good ten minutes and not one employee walked through there so we went upstairs to grab a drink. The bartender up there was bitchy and gave us attitude for trying to use a card to pay for our drinks. We scrounged up the cash and I tipped her with quarters to which she rolled her eyes. I just smiled and said "sorry, we spent it all at the titty bar." Even though I had a one star experience I'm still giving it four because I've had great times at Charly's in the past.

It's a nice place to sit outside with the pooches, but I wasn't too impressed with the food. It was ok, but nothing that memorable. We started with the French onion soup. It was served warm, but I like my soup served hot, very hot, and the temp was just above lukewarm. The broth was tasty, but the onions, well let's just say they were not cut correctly for French onion soup, they were in huge quartered chunks... someone was lazy in the kitchen, then there was the cheese...OMG I think you could have strung it across the street like a rubber band and stopped traffic. Way too much cheese. I love cheese but yowza!! My hubby's chicken sandwich was ok, the bread looked a little anemic, and it was certainly nothing to write home about. The tapenade, however, was quite good, very flavorful and a more than generous portion. I like Charly's bar, we play pool there every now and then and the atmosphere is nice and laid back, I'll just skip the restaurant for a meal, but I may get that tapenade again!

Charly's wooed me with its period-true exterior in this fabulously old western hotel, then dumped me in the gutter like a wet cigar butt. The food was very expensive and disproportionately mediocre. In fact, it was below the Mendoza line.. I'd have to call it very poor. I suffered through a $10 Navajo taco the meat mixture was as bland as a 1950's cookbook, though the actual fry bread was good. My wife had a crushingly sub-par beef dip. Over cooked and dry, my wife took it and fed it to some grateful reservation dogs later in the day. The service was young and sprite but inefficient. The interior was OK, but done in the inglorious 1970's Victorian-re-do style. Much better choices in beautiful downtown Flagstaff.

I called to put in my take out order at 15 minutes till 5 PM. After a few "Ums", "I'm not sure's" and "I'll have to put you on hold", I was told I would have to call back at 5 and put my order in with the bartender: Torrey. I arrived at around 5:05 and my order was submitted by 5:15. My order took around 20 minutes. Not too unreasonable of a wait time. I should have checked the order while still in the restaurant. I was nearly to my destination at a traffic signal when I thought to check my order. They had given me Buffalo Wings instead of the BBQ wings I had ordered. I pulled over and called them. I spoke to Sam, she said to bring the incorrect order back in. I asked her to put in the correct order. I hoped that would reduce the wait time. I arrived around 6:10 to find the order had not been put in. The other bar staff personnel assisted me. Torrey didn't say anything. The corrected order came out at around 6:25 or so. This time I thought to check the container and discovered they had neglected to add the celery and carrots. After this - the wait staff assisting me apologized for the wait. By the time I reached my car it was 6:37 and home it was after 7:00 PM. Nearly two hours later. My husband has GERD and cannot eat this type of meal late. With the exception of the wings all of the other food was cold. We had ordered the mini burgers called sliders, at Charley's specifically because they were described as char-grilled. I sample one on the way home; they tasted pan fried. The chicken wings, while warm, were just ...well...warm. Not hot and they had just come out of the kitchen. Not particularly tender and not cooked in the sauce. I expected a crisp exterior. It appears the wings were pre-cooked, heated and then the sauce applied. The sauce was NOT cooked on the wings. There were exactly 14 of them in the order. That's 6 down from the 20 or so I thought they used to have in their platter. The current time is 7:49 and I'm thinking I might as well put the food in the garbage. I've lived in Flagstaff since 1998. I have come to Charley's a handful of times and have never had a good experience there. Reading through the older reviews it appears the timing of the food delivery, food prep, food storage, drink refilling and the general lack of professionalism on the parts of the wait staff have been pervasive issues at this place. This would be indicative of a need for better management. Coming to think of it I don't believe I can recall the presence of a manager whenever I've been there. I don't imagine the food service manager reads these reviews. That is a shame as it's a great opportunity to get feedback from the diners. The restaurant may have the location going for it, however ,were this my restaurant I would worry about becoming too complacent.

My sister had the fish and chips. She enjoyed the flavor and texture of the fish but I was not impressed with the proportions; two tiny pieces of fish came on a giant pile of fries. My BIL had a Mexican chicken burrito which came smothered in sauce and cheese with a side of tri-colored chips and melted cheese. He said it was "AWESOME!" I had the Reuben. It was MEH. There was a nice proportion of meat/cheese/kraut, unfortunately, the kraut was flavorless. I wouldn't even say half-sour. More like no-sour. I would not go back.

For some reason, Charly's thinks that they're actually Don & Charlie's. Let me tell you something -- they're truly not. Sigh. What to say about Charly's. Or as my ex-wife and I call it, "Chewy's." Charly's food is probably a step above Carl's Jr., but at the price of Don & Charlie's. I haven't been back in about a month and a half, so maybe I'm outdated in this, but the service was piss poor. The tragedy in this was the fact our daughter was graduating N.A.U. and this was our graduation supper. Certainly a memorable one, but for all the wrong reasons. Simply put, there was cotton in the tacos. A $113 meal for four could have been put to better use. Never again. PS-Please spell Charlie without the "Y" because after we finished up, that's all we could keep asking ourselves :)

Having a meal in a historic hotel on any one of 3 floors is fun. The main restaurant is on the main floor, the Gopher Hole is a pub in the basement, and the Zane Grey room is on the top floor with a balcony. Yes, there is outside seating on the balcony. I have eaten there many times and have never been disappointed. The staff is attentive and helpful with suggestions. The draft beer selections are always interesting. Even though this is not thought of as a Mexican restaurant, their Southwest dishes are really good. We had the Chimmichanga and Fish Tacos. For a special treat, have their HUGE plate of Nachos. Don't order the big one along with a meal unless you have a sizeable group, It makes a great group appetizer with drinks.

We are locals - Food is hit and miss - although outside area is awesome people watching area. Ordered Eggs Benedict on Sunday and the eggs were medium at best - no ozzy egg yolk that should have been there - so sad. Maybe half of the wait staff is decent - the other half clueless. We keep going back because of the patio space - wish we could recommend for the food. Do not sit in the bar for lunch - it will be slow slow slow service.

Limited space + an itty-bitty shower are completely made up for in kitsch + historic appeal here. This bar/hotel (only 11 rooms!) was the perfect place to stay for a Saturday night in downtown Flagstaff: It's within walking distance of countless bars, little shops + weekend events. Granted, there's limited parking so you have to catch it right, otherwise it's a trek. I wish the weather would've cooperated to enjoy the wrap around porch, but the second floor bar was warm + cozy. The hot chocolate + Bailey's didn't let me down either. I'll definitely be back!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Charly's! I mostly come here to drink at the bar areas. I have eaten here only one time and it was pretty good, but I can't comment much on the restaurant. However, I have been to the bars here plenty of times and I love it! It's right downtown on a busy corner street which makes for great people watching. I hung out in the bar downstairs a few times where we've had cheap drinks and some free tacos!! Yum! Can't go wrong with free tacos! Here, you can play pool or dance the night away! I mostly come here after bar hopping around and head to the upstairs bar. Sometimes it may have a band or even a wedding reception that is ending in the Zane Grey Ballroom. It is usually really busy, but the drinks are surprisingly cheap. They always have fresh popcorn and there is a huge patio outside to watch the city. Overall, this is a place I must go to every time I'm in Flagstaff! I hope you check it out and like it as much as me!

This review is mainly for the bar areas. I've eaten at the restaurant and it was pretty good, but not great. I'd give the food three stars. What I love to go here for are the bars, particularly the upstairs bar. Very cool scene up there, whether you are inside where it is warm or out on the balcony checking out the heart of downtown Flagstaff. They always seem to have good drink specials, even after happy hour. I've seen people have their wedding reception in the Zane Grey Ballroom upstairs and thought it was a very cool idea. In the mood for dancing, live music, shooting pool, or eating free tacos on Friday night? Check out the bar downstairs. Great scene there too! One of my favorite things about this bar? They have a creeper shot (sneaky photo) of Edward Abbey drinking a beer in the bar from the early '90s, not too long before his death. Very cool. You can find it downstairs near the bathroom.

This review is just for the bar area itself. We went in on a busy Saturday night. There was one waitress working but we weren't ever acknowleged by her. After waiting about 20 minutes we ordered our drinks from the bar. I give them two stars since they had complimentary fresh popcorn available. We stopped here since it was on the Ale Trail but there's so many other great places to go in Flagstaff we won't be back here again.

Overall not impressed. The ambience was one of the only positive parts, which is amazing. My family couldn't get over it, it's a historic building with a nice fireplace. We ate on the main floor in the dining area, there is also a bar upstairs and downstairs with the same menu. Our server was obviously new, he asked us if we wanted dessert when we were still chewing halfway through our meal. I understand new servers but he also had a girl following him around which was awkward because she was never introduced and never debriefed us why they were tag teaming us. Besides the weird service, the food was okay and definitely not worth the price. The salmon I got was overcooked (22$) and the only sides offered are three different kinds of potatoes wtf? And I'm paying for what? The rib eye my dad got was tough, not a good cut, although they did cook it well (24$). My mom got baby back ribs and they were overcooked, wouldn't ever get them again (20$). She pretended they were okay. My dad enjoyed the spinach salad though. Overall would not recommend, unless you want to get a drink and some dessert. Although I ordered a Hendricks and tonic and it tasted like tonic because it was a tall, and an extremely light pour. I was disappointed. Their homemade apple pie was delicious though.

The orange juice came from a can but coffee was delish. Patio seating is limited but available (sidewalk). Complimentary peaches & cream for each person as an app.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere, great drinks! Instead of going back to Las Vegas after the Grand Canyon, we decided to make the shorter trip to Flagstaff for a night. It was nice and we happened upon Charly's. I was having cheese cravings- not sharp cheeses like Cheddar or Gouda but more of a sweeter cheese like Ricotta or Mozzarella. Charly's Spinach Dip hit the spot. Perfectly creamy, perfectly cheesy and perfectly crispy baguette rounds. The fiance and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Also, Flagstaff was surprisingly colder than we had expected, and we had not planned for that. So I got a Hot Apple Pie (Apple Cider + Tuaca) as we sat by the fire. It was the perfect end to a long day, and a perfect way to counter the cold temperature outside. The service was also fantastic- very nice, not pushy, good advice, very helpful and accommodating, refilled our drinks when necessary, etc. It was a very pleasant experience. My few hours in Flagstaff made me want to stay for the rest of our vacation and Charly's was a good contributor to that.

Stopped in for a quick dinner and drinks. My wife had a lemon drop martini. I will bow down and say it was better than mine, which my wife says are the best. Granted, mine are good but these we're amazing! My wife had the taco salad and her only complaint was the salsa was "too hot" for her. I like spicy and did find it a bit spicy for a salad. I had the sliders and they were excellent. What a fantastic historic building to see when you're visiting Flagstaff. Didn't realize until after we finished, there is also service upstairs in the bar. Super cool place.

Breakfast here= GROSS. Mimosas=DELISH! Do not order their potatoes as a side here see if there is a substitute before you dive into some of their stale home fries or diced potatoes. I really wish they would just make hash browns those would have been so much better. I ordered an omelet and the waitress didnt ask me what kind of cheese i had wanted and i totally spaced about asking. So when my omelet came out it tasted absolutely disgusting. no flavor and no cheese. AWESOME

Had a great breakfast! Sat near the fire, was served a yummy peachy appetizer while we waited. Loved the latte. Bacon, eggs and hashbrown potatoes nicely prepared and served. Pretty plates, glasses and cutlery. Overall a nice experience. Will do this again for sure!

Another historic building in Flagstaff boasts casual dining and a bar with a pretty neato view of the downtown area. Specific review for the Zane Grey Ballroom patio area, has that wrap around porch/veranda reminiscent of Bourbon Street, three floors up. Being there on a Saturday night, it was PACKED and the waiter service was slow as molasses in January. I ordered a veggie burger (decent, nothing amazing then again always hard pressed to find a stellar Veg Burger) and a side salad (gotta save carb room for drinking!) I felt bad for the waitress as she was the only one serving the upstairs, so needless to say our food took FOREVER, but she was friendly so it was fine. Plus the little bar upstairs was NOT slow, so it was a good time.

This place is great but one of the bartenders is extremely rude. Despite tipping her 30% all night, she had a very hostile and angry attitude. You will immediately recognize her by her "I'm doing you a favor by serving you" demeanor. She has glasses btw. Other than that everyone was very welcoming and the nachos were excellent.

Charly's is a great place to hit up when you're in town and is especially great for breakfast. The cinnamon and butter pancakes are very tasty and the service has always been nice. It's also a great place to bring your dogs if you're wanting to sit outside on the patio.

Building is historic and beautiful. Fun for people watching. Food is not too great. Cheap gound beef in the new Mexican enchilada. Kids sliders not even the quality of Mc Donald's. Service was slow. They were nice. Not worth going for dinner. Likely more of a drinking place and perhaps appetizers at best.

Had breakfast here with the beau while on vacation in Flagstaff. Nice setting inside the Hotel Weatherford. The menu was on the small side, but adequate for breakfast -- about 10 or so breakfast offerings and many in a Southwest style. The restaurant (and hotel) are quaintly Victorian with high ceilings, historic photos on the walls and rich carpets and wallpapers. The place was clean and well-staffed. While we waited for our orders the server brought us complimentary shot glasses of canned peaches with whipped cream & a sprinkling of cinnamon. That was a nice, unexpected touch. I got huevos rancheros that were served with a huge, hot fresh flour tortilla the size of a truck steering wheel! The BF ordered some egg dish that came with a HUGE thick, juicy ham steak. Both were excellent and I can't say anything bad about the food. His freshly squeezed OJ was weak and kind of bitter but that happens sometimes with fresh oranges and the server took it back and comped it. All in all, a nice, upscale place for breakfast with interesting street views, solid food offerings and great service.

I went here for my 21st birthday. The bartender checked my ID and it took awhile because I just turned 21 half an hour ago. He just smiled. So I thought maybe it was unusual for people to hit the bar once they turn 21. I must be a crazy person. Too excited to become 21. I like the furniture design. It's so nice! It wasn't as crowded on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The service was pretty cool. I had fun on my birthday! My friend and i had the same birthday so we got a free drink (both splitting it).

I agree with Ben S.--Charly's falls somewhere between 3.5 and 3.75 stars, but I will bump up the rating for the location and charming, laid-back ambiance. Good pricing on drinks and food, but food was just okay and service was mediocre (I think they were understaffed that evening). It was a busy night, with lots of people on the second floor and they only had one server, who doubled as the bartender and cashier. This place is located within an old, Victorian looking hotel down in the main street area. Very old Americana look and feel to the hotel which was cool. The second floor has an indoor area as well as a wrap-around balcony where it was great to have a drink and look out over the rest of old town flagstaff. They had live music which was another plus. Good experience and a fun hang-out spot!

Charly's is a fun place! They have a small but tasty happy hour menu and the prices are just right. Also lots of things going on during the week. I suggest sitting upstairs and outside. You get a nice view of downtown Flagstaff. Will definitely return!

You have not experienced Flagstaff until you go to Charlies! Bring your friends, family and even kids can enjoy the view of the peaks from the Zan Grey balcony upstairs. Their food is amazing and they have tones of drinks to choose from. This is also a great place to take a date to; a nice dinner, live local music & right in the middle of down town flagstaff! It is a very unique laid back kind of place, you won't have to wait in a line to get in or change your shoes cause they have a scuff on them. This place really captures the essence and personality of Flagstaff. Everyone is supper friendly and inviting day and night.

Downtown Flagstaff has this old vibe which is great. This place is part of the Weatherly Hotel, which is an amazing in itself. I came to this restaurant just because I was only here for a night and this place was recommended on Yelp. I am only rating the food here. The service and ambiance was nice, but when I am going to go get something to eat, I want the food to be at least decent. I got the spinach salad and french dip. The salad was $9, and for that price, I expect more than 20 leaves. The eggs tasted a bit old. I wasn't happy about that, but I had to eat it, as when I am on vacation, I have trouble eating veggies, so I had to finish it (not that it was hard because there was so little). The french dip was ok, even if a bit on the salty side. I'd say I'd never eat here again, but that is probably because I'll probably never go to Flagstaff again.

Husband fell in love with the burger here. I tend to more of a pain in the butt when it comes to eating out because I'm always on some crazy low-carb/no sugar/no starch/no dairy diet, and here's the reason I will continue to go to Charly's when I'm in Flagstaff: They accommodated me. No attitude, no painful sigh, no eye rolling. They helped me with a SMILE. I will always eat at this historic restaurant, and hangout in the awesome upstairs lounge. Great place, great service.

Enjoyed a decent lunch here with "the girls". We were greeted and seated quickly. Drinks arrived momentarily even though they were very busy that day. I had a seared ahi sandwich, done perfectly, and a good-sized piece o' fish, at that. What else can you say about fruit salad, except that it tasted fresh? Only one person in our party didn't care for her taco salad...don't think it was what she was expecting. Kudos to the waitstaff for graciously fitting in 2 latecomers to our party. Would like to come back again for dinner and check out the upstairs or bar areas that others have commented on.

We weren't quite ready to head back to Camp Verde after dinner at nearby Monsoon, so based on a recommendation from our server at Monsoon, we stopped in at Charlie's for a nightcap. We took note that the host at Charley's told one party that there was a 45 minute wait for a dinner table. But anyway, we walked over to the bar section with a jukebox and pool table. I ordered a "hardcore cider". JP had an Alaska Amber Ale. I thought my cider was great (it didn't have that much of a kick though), however JP thought it was kinda sweet. Relaxed environs with speed and friendly table service. Wide variety of clientele. Damn, that one older guy over at the pool table. He sank all his solids before his partner could even take a whack at her stripes.

My girlfriend brought me on a date here and their steak is delicious! A pretty big steak and cooked to order. I loved the au jus sauce that it came with, very flavorful. The mash potatoes was pretty good too. A bit pricey, but it was steak. The big disappointment was the bar. The kilt-lifter was good, but its beer... can't mess that up.. or can you? Their Guinness was super flat and was just not satisfying. The worst pint of Guinness I have ever had. I was also not a fan of their plastic cups that they served our beers in. But.... they have free popcorn!

WE DID NOT EAT HERE! We entered for brunch, it was reasonably busy but empty tables so we stood uncomfortably waiting to be seated. After being ignored repeadly, I told a waitress we wanted a table for two. Were told, to go through and check with the seater - who also was the manager. Waited at the his station, reading menu as he went past us 4-5 times before I finally had to ask him for a table. His answer "It will be about 20 mins". No apologies, no feeling like he ever wanted to sit us, more like we were an inconvenience. Despite having empty tables, they obviously are incapable of handling business. Went elsewhere and had a great coffee and breakfast burrito.

Food was OK, but I was really amazed at how unfriendly the staff was. It was just the start of lunch when we went, and everyone seemed to be pissed off to see customers. I wouldn't say that they were rude, but definitely not welcoming. I gave them 2 stars for the atmosphere and OK food.

My favorite chill place to go. The crowd is definitely older, no club dancin' here. Lots of local bands come through though and yes, there is dancing. Great service, the bartenders have been all been there for a while. Tasty nachos when you are drinking a bunch of beer. Free popcorn..that's a definite plus. This place is really nice. Great atmosphere in the historic hotel, nice porches and spacious upstairs for dining. Best Navajo taco in town, covered in grilled vegetables. The whole order is more food than anyone should ever eat. Nights often have interesting music, and the bar crowd seems more relaxed than average. I've never seen it overcrowded. I once stopped in after a David Grisman concert at the Orpheum. A group of acoustic musicians were on stage, and shortly after David's back up band arrived with instruments in hand. A great night of music followed. Wish I could bring Charley's down to Tucson. Might be the best bar in Arizona.

Never again! While exploring the downtown area, we were drawn in for lunch by how cool the old building looked. Unfortunately, the historic architecture is where the niceties stopped for us. Our hostess was pleasant, but our waitress was awful, just like the food we were about to get. She brought us waters after taking our orders, and little did we know that would be the only water we would get. She never came by to refill our glasses once, and I would have asked for some had she come by more than just to drop off our food and deliver our check. Both my husband and I got sandwiches, him with the fruit, me with the sweet onion soup. My soup came first, and everything in it was raw. The onions were not even close to cooked, and it was garnished with raw carrots, red cabbage and some unidentifiable green stuff, possibly parsley. The broth was watery and tasted like diluted canned stuff. I sipped on what I could get down because the meal was costing us so much, but when one of the many flies that were buzzing around our table landed in it, I was done. Our sandwiches came and mine didn't even meet my lowest expectations. Dry, stale sourdough bread, two thin slices of turkey, a slice of cheese, and two slices of tomato. No mayo, no mustard, no "red pepper spread" they claimed it would have. I would have gladly brought it up to our waitress, but where was she? Lord only knows. Not at our table, that's for sure. My husband was equally unimpressed with his chicken something-or-other that he ordered. When our waitress finally reappeared to deliver our bill, suddenly cheery now that her tip was on the line, we couldn't wait to get out of there. We never, EVER leave without giving a tip, but there's a first time for everything. I'm sorry, but $30 worth of bad service and even worse food does not add up to a generous gratuity. I don't care if we are starving and they are the only restaurant open, we are never going back.

Stopped into Charly's for some Smithwicks and some Irish car bombs. We didn't get any food but I can say that the bartender was really nice and the place is nice and clean with a really cool list of old scotch and whiskey.

Always walked past this place and made a mental note that I was going to eat/stay there. After a coupe hours of Oktoberfest, the boyfriend and I decided to walk around downtown Flagstaff and find a place to eat, we decided on Charly's. We decided since it was SO beautiful outside that we would eat outside on the 2nd story. We each had 2 drinks and then decided to order dinner ( On saturdays they don't serve dinner up there till 5Pm) Our server was awesome, she was very attentive and was very sweet. She went out of our way to please us. Service was wonderful, this is a place to go to have a drink and enjoy the Flagstaff weather.

This review is a few months past due.. I live in Phoenix and love to escape up to Flagstaff any time I can to escape the heat. In May A friend and I ventured into Charley's one night on our tour de bars and was quickly greeted by Chelsie behind the bar. She talked us into trying one of her specialty "Jalepeno Margaritas" and i must say.. after about 2-3 each we never wanted to leave. THese things are HANDS DOWN the BEST margaritas to ever touch your mouth. We had plans to try out somewhere new the next night but couldnt get those Jalepeno Margs off our mind. so we stumbled back in there. She let us know she had brought in Blackberries that night to make some blackberry margs for us to try out as well adn boy did she not disappoint! She tols us she had been working there for 15 years and brought in the jalepenos and blackberries out of her own pocket to just experiment and have some fun. We went back about a month or so later but she wasnt working. I hope on our next trip we can catch her on a night she is there becasue we have been raving about those Jalepeno Margs since! ONly negative was the out dated, out of tune band they had playing that night, but live music is better than no music still!

After what seemed like hours of walking around downtown Flagstaff searching for a place to dine with a patio that could accomodate my canine companion, we finally got seated at Charley's. I'm so glad we did! What a great experience... large selection of beer, if you are so inclined, including some offerings of the region. Also, Beam shots on special, since I was so inclined. Ha. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, attentive and quick, and the other guests on the patio were delightful. The restaurant is on the bottom level of Hotel Weatherford in downtown Flagstaff, so you have a great view of what's going on if you sit outside. Walter (the dog) was even served his own dish of water... and that's great service. He had his own chair and everything. I was most impressed with how well we were treated at Charley's!

I only gave this place a 3 star review because they hold the annual pine cone drop for new years eve, and the ambiance was cute. Kind of old-time saloony. The food took forever to come, and the table that was seated after us that had just as many people got their order before us, and was finished eating before we got our food. Kind of annoying. Then the food was just so-so. Nothing great. I had a beef dip with fries, and had asked the waitress if I could do 1/2 french fries half onion rings and she just said no. OK, well it doesn't hurt to ask... even though I am sure they probably could. None of the people at my table, out of 6, enjoyed their food that much. So, 3 stars it is.

The food is sub-par. The service is okay. The management was actually very good. I rarely write about management in my reviews, but I was impressed on my visit to Charlie's. It's kind of embarrassing, but I was having one of those "where to eat" fights with my girlfriend. I was in a bad mood because by the time we decided on Charlie's I WAS STARVING!!! I put on my face for the waitress, but in between her visits I wanted to rip my hair out with frustration. The food did take a little while, but it wasn't a big deal. I can't be sure, but I think the manager picked up on my body language (embarrassing since I was acting like an asshole). He apologized for the wait and offered me coffee and dessert on the house. I'll give Charlie's another chance because of him. We'll see if the next thing I order is any better.

Really I'd go 3.75 stars, but I'll bump them to 4. Located in the lobby of the Weatherford Hotel the decor is very charming and it's a comfortable atmosphere. We arrived and there was a group of "mature" gentlemen at another table discussing how they were going to vote in the election. I get the sense that's the kind of place it is - a gathering place for folks to linger, chat and discuss. Service was charming but rather slow, especially considering there were only about 3 tables occupied and the voters finished and left before our food arrived anyhow. The food was o.k. Nicely presented and the powdered sugar on the pancakes was a nice touch as was the complimentary peaches and cream appetizer.
