Great food! No menu, which makes it fun. The only downside was that they make a big deal about a to-go bag. They don't allow it which is weird.

Just found this place a couple of months ago. Have been back three times since. Good food and service and will continue to go back.

Don't expect a menu..sit down..order your drink and the food starts coming. Good southern style fried chicken. Have a reservation as the waits can be long if you don't.

Very good but you need a reservation or you're not getting in. The chicken and sides are as great as everyone says!

This is the place to come to for a sit-down, family-style, southern dinner if your mom is more into watching Dr. Oz than Paula Dean. Our family has been coming here since I was just a kid and the food has always been consistent. Is it fabulous? No. Is it better than I remember mom making when mom used to cook this way back in the 70's? No. But it's still pretty darn good and everyone in our party seemed to be quite satisfied. The place is packed, reservations are pretty much required and there is only one meal: bean soup, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, white gravy, green beans, corn, coleslaw, and mini loaves of bread served with butter and apple butter. Drinks and dessert are not included in the price. The food is brought to the table in bowls and you serve yourself, just like at home. The waitress did a good job of keeping the platters full. The pureed navy bean soup is more the consistency of a bean sauce, like other Yelpers said, but the taste is good. Even the very finicky BF liked it. My grandma used to say that she figured they served that delicious bean soup first so you'd fill up on it and eat less chicken, lol. The chicken was juicy and perfectly crispy and my mom and aunts were raving about how good it was, but to me the seasoning was one notch below KFC. The mashed potatoes were really smooth and the gravy was okay. The coleslaw was creamy, but not too liquidy and was quite good. The corn was corn, but the green beans were good. They looked and tasted like canned green beans seasoned with beef bouillion and bacon bits; nothing spectacular but still tasty. Almost everyone opted for dessert. I had the blackberry cobbler a la mode which was good, but not quite as good as homemade. I'm sure we'll be back for another family dinner!

Amazing deal on some southern cooking. $10.99 per person, all you can eat. The menu includes bean soup, fried chicken, green beans, mashed potato, gravy, cole slaw, corn, bread, apple butter. Family style serving. You can upgrade $1 per person for white meat only. Chicken was good, but not amazing. Bean soup was a bit bland and didn't have any wholes beans. Dessert is extra but very reasonably priced: peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler, ice cream, cheese cake, chocolate cake. Downside: there are no other menu options. I wish they would change it up so that I could frequent the restaurant more often. I can only eat so much fried chicken! Would be nice to Mix up the sides with some other southern specialities. Mac and cheese would be a big plus!

When, 10 minutes into dinner, you hear from over your shoulder "sir you're going to have to put a shirt on if you want to eat here" you know you're in the wrong place. Unless you're dealing meth, in which case you may have just run into a new client. If you like good, fresh, unique and made-with-love cuisine, turn and run for (or more accurately - into) he hills. Just because it's located across the street from a trailer park doesn't mean it's authentic "down home cookin". Quite the contrary. The diner itself is adorned with rusty farm and kitchen implements; the lights emanate from drooping ceiling fans, precariously rattling the yellowed drop ceiling on which they're mounted. The windows are heavily draped with flowery fabric and completely obscure any light or sound that may tend to remind you that there's an outside world. The family-style meal begins with bean soup which was more sauce than soup. However it was pleasantly flavored with bacon and salt. Not fine dining, but not a bad start. Shortly afterwards you're given bread (not fresh or homemade) with Apple butter and regular margarine. Then, you're presented with dinner which consists of corn, green beans, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, gravy and chicken. Corn: canned. Beans: canned. Potatoes: instant. Gravy: salt. Chicken: mostly fried breading. The people working there were nice, and the restaurant itself doesn't try hard to be anything it's not. However, this place just doesn't serve good food. But, as we left, there was a considerable line out the door so maybe I'm not in touch with today's consumer. Shirts optional, either way.

Service was poor and slow. Chicken was very hot and great tasting. corn was okay, green beans okay, but I think they are both from a can. Mashed potato okay, cole slaw was great! White gravy was flavorless. Soup was good. Desserts okay. Worth a trip back for the fried chicken and cole slaw alone, but will skip dessert.

Monte Ne Chicken has stood the test of time in Northwest Arkansas. If someone was new to the area, and wanted a good example of the local flavor, this would be the spot. The staff and ownership are great representatives of local small town friendliness. And the food is just like what Grandma makes. ( If your grandma is a good cook)

  • Lucas P.

Canned green beans, instant potatoes, flour watery gravy, canned corn and pre made cole slaw...oh yeah and flavorless fried chicken. If that is your thing, then by all means go eat until your heart is content. The only thing that was good here was the service and fresh white bread. Everything else was flavorless and canned. I am not sure why locals recommend this place, but it can be compared to a full service buffet with no flavor.

When you feel like you are lost on the way out there, you are close. We heard great things about Monte NE and it was OK. I was disappointed in the canned veggie sides, the green beans were awful but my toddler inhaled the corn. The bread was good, everything was slightly over-salted, but we are new to the area and are finding that about AR in general. The chicken was good, the mashed potatoes divine. I was disappointed that the lemonade option was powdered. Water, Coca-Cola products and powdered lemonade. It's not fancy, but good basic food and call ahead so you aren't waiting. There is NOTHING nearby.

With such a high Yelp rating I assumed Monte Chicken would be a reliable choice...BUT I was woefully wrong. Inside decor looked to be a combination of a 1950 farm house and garage sale. What made it worse was the carte du jour was fit the same description...meaning old taste to an old fashioned meal. This establishment works under the all you can eat based on a single menu, which consists of Fried Chicken, thin on meat but heavy on the fry. Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, which desperately needed salt. Corn and Green Beans that both looked and tasted as if they came from can and Coleslaw, which was the only thing good item among the group. The meal started off with Bean Soup and bread but there wasn't much of a bean to be found anywhere in the jug it was served in. Although it tasted pretty good it would have been more aptly named as been sauce. We ended the preordained meal with the home cooked Cobbler...that like the coleslaw wasn't bad but it couldn't make up for the over fried chicken and canned sides. This isn't any place I would consider for a special occasion nor would I want to take the family their while on a vacation but if a bunch of friends want to get together and stuff themselves with mediocre overpriced food this is the place for you.

I grew up near this place and took for granted what GREAT fried chicken tasted like. We now live in Chicago, and if you want something similar but very subpar, it will cost you $20 a person instead of the $8 or so that Monte Ne offers. Every time that we are back we eat here. It's great for a family with a budget, or for anyone who has picky kids. Your not going to find a friendlier better place to take your family for GOOD food in the area!

I have been wanting to visit this establishment for over a year, but living with 2 vegetarians and 2 picky eaters, it was always easier to eat pizza or sushi. In case you are wondering where this restaurant is, take New hope road to the other end from highway 49. Weekends are crazy busy and I'm still not sure how they fit so many people in this building. I sat next to a young fellow in the waiting area who has visited the restaurant for 40 years starting from when he was a child and he told me the chicken is just as good today as when he was a kid so I was ready to be impressed. To get into the right state of mind, understand that this restaurant has remained fairly constant for roughly 2 generations. If you imagine stepping back to a simpler time (before the food network, before MTV, heck before cable TV) to enjoy a meal with someone's grand parents you are almost ready. Take a seat and the soup is brought out. A creamy and smoky bean soup that gets the juices flowing. Next, the chicken, mashed potatoes, white gravy, corn, green beans (canned), slaw (fresh), and apple butter are brought out and you just eat until you're full. When you need more food, they'll bring it out. Easy Peasy. The chicken pieces are small, they must use over size cornish hens because the legs and thighs are about the size of a large set of wings from other restaurants. The doughy batter is salty and there's a hint of pepper (and MSG, I hear). It's fairly crispy and the juicy meat is well seasoned, just about perfect southern fried chicken not to be confused with cajun style fried chicken. Sweet tea was also a very good companion to this classic southern meal. I'll be back soon.

I have raised my star rating for this place because of quality of product and local business cred... I still have the complaint with my last review, but now Bud's has closed and though Monte NE is way out of the way, it is some of the best chicken in a region that is riddled with Great chicken places. People who do not understand this type of dinining (as I have read witht the other reviews) family style/set menu, are just that, people who do not understand the concept. And my last rant tonight is that if you do not like the bean soup, you REALLY do not get it. The beans are blended sooooo much that there is not much if any of the actual bean, but the flavor of this obviously, home made soup is excellent. For a real taste of N.W. Arkansas chicken, this is one of the "must stops".

We were so impressed! We called ahead and made it across town arriving about 5 minutes after they closed. They were very gracious and genuinely happy to see us. The place was packed out and everyone had smiles on their faces. The meal starts with homemade bean soup and fresh hot bread. Then the fried chicken and sides of fresh green beans, corn, mashed potatoes with gravy and slaw come out. You don't order they just bring it to your table. It's all served up family style in serving dishes and they keep bringing as much as you want. The chicken was the best! It was nice and crispy. The owner greeted us when we came in and was still there when we left. He is very proud of the place and seems to truly enjoy the patrons. We will definitely remember to come back to this place whenever possible.

A local recommended this place to us and I am very grateful for that. One thing he forgot to mention is that you should make a reservation on the weekends so unless you want to wait an hour like we did, I suggest you call ahead. Was it worth waiting an hour? Yes, it sure was. This is some of the best fried chicken I have had. It was served piping hot with a crunchy, crispy skin that was so well seasoned. The food is served family style and you will get green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, bread and apple butter on the side. With the exception of the bread and apple butter which were very good, the rest of the sides are average. It doesn't matter, you are not here to load up on carbs...you are here for the chicken! It closes early (at 8) and the dining room was half full around 8:15 when the waitress asked if we wanted more chicken. I asked for another breast, expecting it to be room temperature because the kitchen was closing. Wrong! It was served just as hot and fresh as our first basket. Very impressive. The skin is just magical. And I'm wishing I had some of that chicken right now just thinking about it. The next night we drove to Pittsburgh, KS to check out Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's, two the purportedly best fried chicken places in the country. Monte Ne Inn blows them out of the water. I wish we had gone back here again instead!

If you like fried chicken and that's it ..... go .... by all means! A "sorta fun" kinda place. You sit down and they bring food...no ordering...they do chicken. Sides are family style .... what ever they want to do. But all sides are canned and SALTY! Dare I say... typical lazy housewife style. Anyone can do that.. honestly!! Everything is from Sysco Services (or the like) and is just thrown together. Chicken IS GOOD but not better than the best fast food chicken.

What a neat local place for family style, home cooked meal! We liked the navy bean soup to start, although it was thin with hardly any beans. Everything else was excellent - juicy fried chicken, beans, corn, mashed potatoes & gravy, bread and apple butter. We didn't have room for dessert. As other reviewers said, the chicken was not overly spiced so we salted it, but that's fine because some people prefer it that way. I would definitely recommend calling ahead for reservation. Their hours are very limited. We were seated right away since we called ahead, but there were many unhappy-looking people waiting a long time. You can't beat the prices, and the service was prompt and friendly. Definitely recommend!

I've been here a couple times when I come to visit my family. I love the place it's all you can eat family style fried chicken dinner. The chicken is perfectly fried crispy juicy goodness served with mashed potatoes (hot a with a creamy white gravy that's just ok) green beans that are so good I would gladly make them my main course a decent bean soup rolls apple butter corn and coleslaw that I actually ate and I hate coleslaw. Dessert for me was ice cream and my husband had the cobbler which was just nasty but even so I recommend it homey comfort food like I grew up on. The problem I had is that we asked for more chicken, but just white meat, The waitress said ok then never came back. The manager came over to see if we needed anything later and we finally got it, but that took too long. If you do this kind of place you need to really need to get people what they ask for.

This place is awesome! I love coming here, let me tell you, they have the very best green beans I have ever had in my life. They start you off with a huge pot of Bean soup, which I normally am not a fan of, but theirs is absolutely wonderful. They give you crackers and stuff to go with it, but you don't need it, the soup is soup-erb (haahaa) just as is. Then comes the good stuff, the load your table with hot fresh fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, cole-slaw, fresh baked bread, butter, and apple butter. It is all mouth watering. The chicken is just right, hot, juicy and with a little bit of crunch to make it perfect. They will even give you all white meat if you ask to it, no additional charge. The mashed potatoes are fluffy and wonderful, the white gravy is ok, I am not a big gravy person, but its alright. I don't like cole-slaw, so I cant tell you anything there, but the green beans...oh my goodness...they are amazing. I would go for that reason alone. Give me a bowl of those beans! They have little onions in them, and they are seasoned to perfection. And then you have a loaf of white bread, hot and chewy, talking about this is making me hungry! They have a limited dessert menu, some really good peach cobbler, and homemade vanilla ice cream. Yum!!!! If you are out this way for any reason, stop here and grab a bite to eat. It is all served family style, so come hungry, and bring your friends. If it is the weekend, definitely make a reservation, otherwise you may be in for a long wait. I would say that it is not worth missing though, great food, lots of it, and a decent price. You cant really go wrong.

its a family style dinner. very nice service and a standard home cook meal. the restaurant setting is like eating at home, set of vegies and meat. yes the vegies are from the can, except for cole slaw(probably). the fried chicken is just ok. but definately a must try once, just for the experience. just don't expect more than your home cook meal.

Found this place by accident, but what a cool place. Family style chicken dinner is what they have. No menu but plenty to eat. I was alone and they were able to get me right in tonight but would suggest calling for reservation before going. Enjoyed the dinner, Fresh Bread, fried chicken, corn, green beans, mashed potatos, gravy, bean soup, apple butter and sweet ice tea. Oh yes did I say its all you can eat! I plan to go back before I leave...

Maybe I expected to much, but Monte NE Inn is only OK. NOTE: 4 stars for value if you can eat about 10 pieces or more. Service was good, but not amazing. Our waiter seemed hesitant at times to bring us more chicken as our group inhaled the chicken as they showed up. Ambiance is what you'd expect, but a little dirtier than you'd hope. There were some flies inside the restaurant, and one that took a nose dive into my corn. The sides are okay- not worth complaining about or praising. THE CHICKEN! Is ok. Above average, but not amazing. The dark meat is great, but the white meat is still a little dry. To me, juicy white meat is a marker of a great fried chicken restaurant, and Monte Inn's was only ok. Worth the experience for first-timers, but definitely not going to be a frequent stop

If you haven't experienced the spread of food you get at Monte Ne, you must do so immediately. Everything was delicious. I ate until I had vertigo lol. Great atmosphere, very friendly service. My husband and I went on a Friday night and didn't have to wait for a table. I highly recommend Monte Ne. Save room for dessert!

I love this place! I it is hidden restaurant near the lake (about 15 minutes from the highway -exit 83). It is an all you can eat/family style meal. Everyone gets the same food - bean soup, fried chicken, mash potatoes, corn, coleslaw, and rolls with apple butter. The fried chicken and the rolls with apple butter are my favorite! The restaurant is next to a closed gas station and a gravel parking lot across the street. The place looks a little bit questionable at first because of the location and the antique style decor, but it is definitely a mom/pop restaurant gem. If you love fried chicken, then this is the place for you. Quirks about the restaurant: - They only accept cash/check ($10 dinner + drink + dessert) - Open Tues - Sat (5pm-8pm) and Sun (noon -7pm) - They are super busy on the weekends - reservations recommended - Weekday nights are not so bad. You can to get seated without a wait - I've heard that it is usually closed during the winter

Was brought here by family because they had hear good things. Colored me not impressed. First course is bean soup. It was ok, but lacked flavor. Would have love some Tabasco sauce but the waitress never came back by. Then we had all the main course items come. The green beans tasted like they were out of a can, the mashed potatoes lacked flavor, the corn tasted like it was out of a can, and the slaw was ok. The fried chicken was just ok. Not bad, but nothing better than a grocery store or KFC. For desert I had cobler. It was a soupy mess with 2 scoops of ice cream in it. It you wanted some of the ice cream you ha to eat most of the "soup" first or it would spill over the side. My mil had the cheesecake and it was awesome. Tasted homemade. All in all in Arkansas there are bound to be better places for fried chicken.

A local favorite family dinner spot. Go here hungry (or hangry) and melt in satisfaction as they bring you copious amounts of fried chicken, mashed tatters, corn, rolls, etc. All you can eat at a set price per person. ...my mouth is watering just writing this. I better stop.

It's been a long time since I've been to a family style fried chicken place, and this was a GREAT place to try! It's a standard set menu, at a reasonable price. The chicken was tasty and juicy, with a crisp, well seasoned batter. The soup and sides were pretty good , but the apple butter was wonderful. Sadly we were too full to try desserts! Definitely worth a stop!

All you can eat of some of the BEST fried Chicken and viddles for only $9.99! These folks in Roger,AR have something really special here at Monte NE. Planned on having Sunday dinner here on the way back to Tulsa from Eureka Springs and I am mighty glad I did. About 5 miles south of Rogers towards the lake, is this surprisingly large local one of a kind restaurant that serves only ONE thing...some of the best fried chicken anywhere. Reminded me of Stroud's in Kansas City and some treasured gems scattered throughout America. Clean, nicely decorated country style, full of hungry families, couple, etc. for their SUnday dinner out. Sat at a comfortabel booth and a sweet young waitress asks what we wanna drink, sweet tea of course! Then she brings this large crock pot think full of delicious bean soup. Now I dont usually go for bean soup ( Hate English Pes soup with a passion) but this was so tasty,I think it was lima bean, onions, spices but yummy. Then the smorgasbord starts arrivin'....a full baked loaf of soft white bread, creamy butter. Whipped smooth potatoes, white gravy, fresh shucked corn, country style green bean, delish cole slaw...all in small individual bowls to help yourself. The fried chicken was served in a big bowl with at least 8-9 pieces to start off with and was excellent -perfectly hand breaded, moist inside, not greasy and slightly salty...perfect. These birds are on the smaller side but still full o' flavor that meats in your mouth. I couldn't stop puttin' these little babies away and had probably 2 full chickens worth by the time I was done. ALL you can eat for $9.99!? HUH? Besides this being some of the best Southern country food I have had, the value is unbelievable, folks! They offer dessert but who can stuff another morsel in your mouth? We called for reservation for 6pm on Sunday night but got there early,no problem being seated. Check out their web site and give 'em your money, it will be well spent! AQ Chicken House in Fayetteville is supposed to be good too but man oh man, I can't wait to go back to this place next time I am in the area!

This place was a great family-style chicken dinner. If you are not familiar with it, here is what you need to know. There is no menu. For 10 bucks you get all you can eat: Bean Soup starter (as soon as you sit down) Chicken Mashed Potatoes and White Gravy Corn Green Beans Cole Slaw Warm Bread and homemade butter Desserts and drinks extra. It was delicious. Tasted freshly prepared. We really liked the chicken. We liked that the pieces were small (not those pumped up huge pieces of chicken) which meant a higher skin:meat ratio. The food is served fast and if you are hungry after a day on the lake don't snack before coming.

If you haven't eaten at monte ne, you haven't had good old fashion fried chicken and fixings. Great staff, excellent place for families or friends. It is the best place bar none for fried chicken, home made bread, apple sauce and everything else. Ok I am hungry, out of here, bye

Ate there for the first time this evening based on a friends recommendation. Made a reservation for 6:30pm, called later and asked to have it moved up to 6 and they accomodated us. We were immediatly seated and served bean soup that was tasty. Their sweet tea was perfectly sweetened and the refills kept coming. The chicken was crisp and juicy, the taters were smooth and creamy, the gravy was scrumptious and the corn was good. Not a big fan of green beans in general but theirs were pretty good. The best part was the home baked bread with apple butter, amazing! All and all I really like this place, my only complaint was the wait staff didn't seem very friendly, may have been because they were so busy but I will definitly go back.

Welcome Home, hubby and I went to my favorite local spot. What can you say about this type of comfort food, it's great. The staff is friendly, with out hovering. Be warned the only choice you have is what you want to drink and if you want dessert, both of which are extra. Try it if you want great fried chicken. Went back and it is still the best chicken in town.

they start you off with bean soup (pretty tasty), then you get fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and bread. nothing fancy, but it is good and it is all you can eat. they offer cobbler and ice cream for dessert (not included in the dinner price)- i had the peach cobbler, which was quite good. next time i'll try the berry cobbler. this place does get crowded so get there early! if you have a big group i believe there is a good sized room in the back for private parties.

The place is actually much cuter than the picture portrays. The chicken is very good. The corn was a pretty tasteless. The surprising standout was the coleslaw, by far the best I've ever had. Service was excellent.

  • Julie N.

This is a family-style, all-you-can-eat chicken joint with a set menu (potatoes, corn, green beans, bread, cole slaw and chicken) for about $12/person. The fried chicken is good, the sides are ok, but the overall experience is great. Once you finish your first serving (per table) of chicken, you can order specific pieces (wings, etc.).

A few of the folks I work with are fried chicken aficionados, so we headed out to this hidden gem. You guys, this is a pretty awesome place. I was embarrassingly overdressed in a dress and heels, but I dove headfirst into their all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of chicken, potatoes, corn, bread with apple butter, and homemade cobbler and cake. Yowza. It's delicious food in the middle of nowhere, and totally worth exploring. Home cooked goodness! Don't miss it!
