Excellent food and portion sizes. There is very little seating and no atmosphere but that is not what this restaurant aspires to. The appear to have a strong takeout business. I would love to see this place expand, starting with operating hours. Lots of potential here.

Great place for lunch. Really fresh, great menu, friendly and attentive staff.

Not as authentic has I had hoped for. I grew up in a neighborhood with great Lebanese/ Greek restaurants. The Grape leaves are not fresh. The meat is low quality and the portions are small.

First time eating Jordanian food and it was great. Staff was nice, super accommodating, and yummy. Will be back.

Good food, including a few vegetarian items (not enough!). This place is completely inaccessible to people with mobility impairments. It has a single entrance that is up a large staircase. Also, it is open for lunch only on weekdays, not at all on weekends. Pretty much ensures they will never have much clientele beyond the half-dozen people who can fit into the cramped space. But the food is good!

Wonderful, authentic Mediterranean food. Lamb gyros, hummus, tabbouleh all are yummy.

LOVELY hummus & baba ghanoush & tabbouleh! Friendly owner & staff--always quick to your table (or counter) and fast to refill your drink. I get BAD cravings for a Petra Platter on the weekend. Recently I wanted to take up my table for another half hour while I studied and ordered baklava--lemon sauce on top? So incredibly good.

I went here today for the fist time upon the recommendation from previous Fayetteville friends visiting from Oregon. My restaurant review history has so far dictated writing reviews solely for places I love or would never return to. Petra, I'm slightly torn. First impression was walking in and it was as small as I was told it would be. I love that. Something about seeing the stove, the person putting in the effort and talking with the workers and patrons in a friendly way. Love that. I got the Mayo Platter. Arrived and looked worthy of a picture. I refrained. The Pita came from a box, but heated and served with amazing hummus gets a pass. The lamb I really wished would be carved off the Vertical Spit I've expereinced abroad. Aside from the Hummus, the grape leaves stole the show. Perfect amount of mint, riced cooked perfectly. So back to me being torn. Friendliness of the place, absolutely. Food of the place, Passable. Prices of the place, perfect. Would I eat there if I was enjoying the farmers market or Christmas lights of the square? Possibly. Would I drive across town, possibly not.

I finally had my first trip to Petra this weekend, after being in Fay for 9 years. I couldn't have been happier with my experience. I knew what to expect from the size of the cafe; it's small people, that's part of its charm! I had the Mayo Platter (beef/lamb or chicken with taziki sauce and your choice of two sides items). I chose the beef/lamb, hummus, and baba ganouge, and I added a single falafil . Every bite was delicious. We also got desert in the form of the best baklava I've ever had! The service was great and fast, the food was amazing, the charm is through the roof of this place, and the owner was there preparing food, talking to customers and showing his appreciation for each of us!

Odd hours, but COMPLETELY worth it. One of my favorite haunts after the Saturday morning farmer's market on the square. Turkish coffee is the best I've ever had (and I like Turkish coffee) and rumor has it that someone on staff can read the dregs of your coffee cup turned upside down. I'm a huge fan of the grape leaves, as well, and the hummus is dynamite. Be sure to get there on time, though, because seating is limited.

Too good to be true it was, but otherwise it is all good: Tabbouleh is not authentic, just a good fresh salad closer to Fattoush. Falafel were dry and chalky but has good flavor. Hummus is good: Foule is very good and probably the most authentic thing I had to eat. Small hole in the wall place, friendly folks and gracious owner.

Well, as The Duke of this fine establishment, I feel I owe my loyal subjects an update. Still great, and one of my favorite spots in Fayetteville. I come here about once every two weeks for lunch. I'd probably come more often if I lived closer. My personal favorite day is either Thursday or Friday, because the mayo platter can be ordered as the special (it's featured on Thursdays and you can choose from a list on Fridays). I get that with hummus and foulle as the sides. Between that and the soup I leave pretty full and happy. Love the soup, love the service and friendly atmosphere. Tolerate the hipsters.

one of my favorite cheap eats in fayetteville. it's good food, priced right. there's not a lot of service, but what there is of it, works quite well.

I just had the baklava and woahhh. It is very sweet. Extremely sweet. But I thought it was good. Had a nice texture and packed a punch for a small dessert. Also reasonably priced so worth it. But because it is so sweet it might not be the dessert for everyone. Beware!(:

This place has yet to disappoint me. I am not a hipster so my love for this place is not because I am following some trend. It is just that darn good. The place itself is impressive when you have had the opportunity to taste the food. The aesthetics don't matter because the foods GOODNESS makes up for it 1000x over. The servers are college aged and typical (no shade) but not offensive and the chef is EVERYBODY'S friend. Unbelievably low prices and great food. I can't stop praising this place. Oh and don't forget to try the Baklava and the Turkish Coffee!

Is this the World Organic Cafe? Live music and draft organic beers were great, people nice.

One of the best deals in town for the price, quality and service. The owner, Saleh Faur runs the place and is always ready with a smile, while his wait staff clean tables, serve fresh food, and greet everyone. It is a treat to eat the fresh falafel, tabouleh, hummus, and baba ganoush. Only the gyros arent fresh with no gyro-shwarma wheel in sight. Otherwise this is as good as it great in Fayetteville: service, food, freshness, quality, and company all excellent.

Very small place with minimal seating but that doesn't affect the food at all. I do love the food here, especially the baklava!

If not the best food in all of Fayetteville, it is certainly the best food per unit of currency spent. I am having a hard time thinking of any better lunch I can get (which, sadly, this amazing place does not do dinner). The gyros are great, but I really like the baba ganoush. I ask for garlic sauce on it, which I recommend if you like things spicy. The lentil soup is tangy, and the baklava is perfect. I couldn't be a more satisfied customer. Petra Cafe, thank you for the best food in Fayetteville!

The food is really good. The place is cozy and has a funky Petra decor. The coffee is something unique...you've got to try it at least once. Hours are limited. Good people. Good food.

Oh, how I love and miss the Petra Cafe! I used to work near downtown Fayetteville. It was not uncommon for me to eat there Monday through Friday. I love everything about this place. The food, the atmosphere, the service. My favorite was the soup. A different one every day of the week and all delicious. The Petra Platter was always a winner. I must've tried a dozen similar places in San francisco, and never found a platter that compared. Anyway, the Petra rules and I'm really glad they're still serving up delicious lunch in Fayetteville. Someday, I look forward to pulling up a stool there again.

I don't know how I haven't fallen in love with this place before. A small lunch counter off the square, travel posters from the Middle East, red sparkly bar seats, and a plate of the most succulent food in town. Lots of vegetarian options, Coke products, friendly waitstaff and easy downtown location make this place a joy to go to. Try the foule platter! And don't bring a group larger than 4. This place is very intimate.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! The whole vibe of this place is amazing. The staff is friendly and the hours are short and the service is great!! Best Mediterranean food in NWA! It is really authentic and the taste is amazing!!! You might have to wait on a seat, but it is totally worth it!

I really had high hopes for this place but my wife and I was severely disappointed. Food was quite bland overall and very small portions. Their Gryos was almost laughably bad. Unless all you're coming here is the falafel (mediocre), then I would simply drive down about a block or two to the Kosmos Cafe and enjoy great tasting, cheap Mediterranean food!!

Delicious food, healthy and reasonable portion sizes, very affordable, and super friendly people. This has to be one of my favorite lunch places in Fayetteville. I love the falafel salad and the soups are always tasty. Good selection for vegetarians and their meat eating friends.

Even though I don't have a lot of reviews on yelp yet, know that I don't give out "1 stars" willy-nilly. This place was seriously underwhelming, and I would never come here again. Let me explain. Upon arriving, it seemed promising enough....small, but quaint. Then we sat down and I noticed a serious fly problem - mainly that there were about 5-6 flies swarming around us and hanging out on the glass window behind us. Gross. We ordered: I got a classic gyro and my dining companion ordered a half gyro with a cup of split pea soup. As I began to take in my surroundings, I noticed that the kitchen is very lacking. It's basically a home kitchen behind the counter. Where was the spit with the lamb/beef glob on it, rotating around? (Maybe with the fly problem, this was a blessing) The soup was interesting, but not very good. The peas were still a little hard, like it hadn't been cooked enough. The gyros were so disappointing. The pitas were cold, the meat was lukewarm -- I saw them get it from the refrigerator and warm it up on a griddle. I have had plenty-a-gyro in my day and these were by far the worst. To add insult to injury, after our meal was served we were abandoned because the 2 waitresses were so immersed in their side work. I never got another refill and we had to go up to the counter and ask for our check. So.....is Petra the best Fayetteville has to offer for Greek food? I seriously hope not!

This is probably one of the neatest little cafes in town. Why? Because it actually feels like a cafe, that's why. Only open for lunch (so get there before 2) Petra serves a rather small greek/mediterranean menu with specific specials for each day of the week. Try going on Thursday, as I believe that is the day you can pick any of the other daily specials. Seating is very limited (about 7 bar stools and 4 tables) but service is rather quick and friendly. I haven't had anything on the menu that wasn't pretty good, and I recommend sticking around and getting a little after meal Turkish Coffee. It's different, but it grows on you.

Reviewer W.G. is a psycho... but they are right about this place being excellent. The food is Arab/Mediterranean and I'm never displeased! This is a great place to take someone who likes to try new and interesting foods. There hasn't been anything on the menu that didn't taste great.

LET ME SET THINGS STRAIGHT, MY FRIENDS. Petra is in JORDAN. If you haven't noticed, it's recently been inducted into the Seven Wonders of the World Hall of Fame or something. It's an amazing ancient city carved into a mountain, you should see it some time. The owner of the Petra Cafe knows this too. (He's really nice, and a friend of my family's, and also from this country called JORDAN). The point of my diatribe is this: THE FOOD IS ARAB, not "Greek" or "Mediterranean." Jordan doesn't even border the Mediterranean Sea, kids. I'm sick of Whiteys trying to White Wash STRAIGHT UP old-country Arab food. It's not Greek, it's not Mediterranean, it's ARAB. THAT'S RIGHT, made by middle-eastern people, and not the endearing kind from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. SO STOP TRYING TO STEAL OUR GLORY. WE INVENTED FALAFEL. WE INVENTED STUFFED GRAPE LEAVES, BAKLAVA, AND ALSO RICE, THAT'S RIGHT, RICE. I went there. (Don't be misled, the Petra Cafe does not serve rice.) The point is, go to this cafe. It's adorable. And authentic. Like I said, the guy is Jordanian. Actually, if it helps, keep telling yourself it's "Mediterranean," and continue to keep from attributing anything positive to the Arabic-speaking middle east. Then go watch Raiders of the Lost Ark. And also, screw yourself.

I was in town on business and staying at The Chancellor hotel, just around the corner. A colleague and I were actually headed to another restaurant for lunch, but when I spotted a Mediterranean cafe, all bets were off! Although this is w teeny tiny place, the service was great and the food was excellent. I highly recommend this cute little cafe and I can't wait to get back to Fayetteville for another Mayo Platter!

I'm sad to report this place does not live up to the reviews. The owner and wait staff are extremely sweet, but all of the food is pre-made and literally warmed in the microwave. I ordered the petra platter and my boyfriend ordered the mayo platter. We were both disappointed. The best item on my plate was the hummus, BUT my pita bread was hard. Taste-wise the grape leaves are good... Texture-wise, not so much. Over cooked mushy rice is never good texturally. Oh... Don't order the lemonade unless you want diabetes! Overall, I was very disappointed with this place. :-( I'm generously giving 3 stars because of the awesome customer service.
