It's good. The food isn't the best I've had but it's not bad either. The salsa is awesome. So is the guacamole. All in all the staff is nice and it's a good place to go for some really cheap authentic Mexican grub.

This place is good. Looking for a quick lunch or dinner that's not expensive then come here. Can get a full dinner for $6 and full lunch for 3$. Only thing I dislike is I don't drink my drinks with lemon. I always as for no lemon and they always bring it out with it. :)

The greatest Mexican restaurant I've ever experienced. When I write reviews about other restaurants, they are in comparison to Mexico Viejo. The flavors are excellent, the service is good and the place is dependable - it's not just good, it's good every time. I recommend: Steak Fajita Burrito Taco Salad Chimichangas The white cheese dip, Oh. My. God. The white cheese dip. "It's like crack cocaine." - says my wife while I'm writing this review. "I hope you're giving them 20 stars." The ambience is quite casual (multiple TVs playing sports, etc) and relaxed. Booths are much more comfortable than tables/chairs. This place isn't much to look at on the outside but the food more than makes up for it. Mmm, white cheese dip....

This place is now my go to Tex-Mex restaurant in Fayetteville. Consistent good service, food and drinks at very reasonable prices!

Go to for Mexican fare.. Awesome salsa and guacamole.. Invariably order the veggie Fajitas since it has it all... I like to add some salsa (the one that comes with the chips) to the fajitas.. But once they served my veggie fajitas with chicken bits.. Weren't apologetic about it.. Love-hate feeling..

I seriously love Viejo so much. I go multiple times a week. Their tacos are on point, and nothing beats a monster strawberry margarita!! I highly recommend.

I have always been a customer since 2002 when they opened. I will not go back. Food okay but service non existent. The little guy at the door has a chip on his shoulder and in my opinion too immature to be a front person for a restaurant. I ended up having to call the front desk to get a server after 15 minutes of waiting and all I have to say is I won't go back.

Loved the atmosphere and the food was more than plenty to eat. The only complaint is we only saw our waiter twice. That's when he took out order and gave us the check. No one ever checked on us to refill our drinks. Other than that it was good.

I can't believe people like this place so much. I give them 2 stars instead of 1 because the food is very cheap for a college student, however, this is the most basic Mexican food I've ever had.

I cannot eat here anymore, it seems that they reuse their leftover salsa. That's just gross. I found a fingernail in mine and I left after that. I will not be returning.

I used to be an usual costumer here, I WILL NEVER COME BACK! Safe yourself the trouble to come to this overpriced and bad mexican restaurant. My friends and I used to come here because it is close from campus, but after being highly disrispected as a costumer I decided we could all bring our business to Mojito's in Uptown or in Rogers by the mall. This place is still running because Fayetteville is a small town and people don't know better. (sorry Fay, I love you but I had better food) If you want to have some good tacos there's a little hole in the wall behind this restaurant that is cheaper and better but very few know about., and now you know. Thank me later.

Food is ok. Door say "FREE WIFI" ... I asked for the wifi password when we sat down and the server RAN away from the table... and we were ignored for the rest of the night. No wifi. Very strange. The food was ok. Pollo Loco was pretty good. Spinach enchiladas were GROSS. Free chips and salsa was the best part.

Border line crap, but kinda good. Cheesy decor, a lot of pre prepared food. there are much better, and much worse Mexican Food offerings in town.

Cheap, fast, tasty. This is what I would expect from your typical local Mexican restaurant. An assortment of meals that include various combinations of tacos, enchiladas, burritos, rice, beans, etc. All are pretty cheap, you get a huge drink, and our meal was out amazingly fast, and the restaurant was pretty full! They even have "Enchiladas Razorback" (or something like that) that had seafood. I don't quite get it, but they were good :)

Good for a sit down Mexican dinner with a group of friends. Try 32 oz. mugs of Dos Equis for $3.

Below average tex mex food. They have a huge menu so maybe should explore more but basically exactly what you would expect from a tex mex restaurant, cheese, sour cream, salsa. Service was good and plenty of parking. It's a huge restaurant in an old shopping center. I am not a big tex mex fan so it might appeal to you if that is what you seek. Definitely better than chain restaurants but their tamales were only ok. I got a couple of enchiladas and they were also ok. No complaints but not the level of Mexican food I prefer. The local Mexican's apparently run the place and work here but they are all eating somewhere else. Still, if tex mex is what you are seeking, this will probably satisfy you. Apparently famous for it's cheese dip (they sell it to go) but we didn't try it. Salsa was pretty good though.

Here's the thing... For two and a half years before i moved here to Fayetteville, I lived in Austin, Texas. If you've never been, let me just say that its decently hard to so much as swing a sombrero without hitting a mexican or tex mex restaurant (and those are different things, everyone). and almost all of them are better than Mexico Viejo. And the problem is, I expect they are better than most any Mexican restaurant i'll eat at in NWA, or really, anywhere outside of Texas, or other border states. So, when reviewing places outside of the town that kept it weird long before fayetteville kept it funky, I have to dial back my expectations and adjust my grading curve a bit. Even given that... Mexico Viejo still pretty much sucks. I've been once, a couple months ago, and it hasn't occurred to me to go back. The food was bland and badly needed seasoning. Everything was properly cooked, but almost flavorless. I had chips and queso to start, and had a chimichanga for dinner. There was a neighborhood hole in the wall near my first apartment in Austin called Jardin Corona. Served a chimi so freaking good that i drove halfway across the city to get it after i moved. The version at Mexico Viejo wasn't even in the same city, much less ballpark of the JC dish. Also, the service was slow, and pretty unfriendly. I'd love to tell you a horror story, or have something glowing to say to make this review more interesting, but yeah. It was bland tasting tex-mex with bad service. I guess they get a star, cause the Dos Equis Amber was ice cold.

Ive been going to this restaurant for almost 5 years and ive been watching it decline for years now. 60% of the staff can barely speak English much less take orders, no racism intended. im a very picky eater, and every so.for thing I ordered was not how I specified. The staff was also very unfriendly and not welcoming. I will not be spending my money there anymore. If you want good Mexican food, go somewhere else.

Good food. Try the Burrito Mexico Viejo. Employees hanging out by our table carrying on personal conversations made it a place we're not likely to return to.

Food was pretty good and price was not too high... Fast service and easy to find. Not the best Mexican food I've had but good for the area!

Great Mexican restaurant. Friendly servers, fun environment. They have the best Queso dip and chips in Fayetteville! Most of their food is yummy and they bring it out to you quickly. They also have great parking. Conveniently located near the bypass for a quick stop in.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
