So my husband and I visited here recently and the service we had was ridiculous. We are from California and we are used to the way Mexican food is cooked over there, so when I asked our waitress if they had any other type of sauce for their enchiladas other than cheese sauce or chili sauce (what???) she just looked at me like I was from another planet. I just figured they were like every other place we've been to out here and chose the Tex-Mex style of cooking so we figured we would give it a try. My husband and I both got the chimichanga place with him getting the beef and I opted for the chicken. The rice was good and the chicken and beef had a nice spicy seasoning to it. However, I disliked the cheese sauce that was poured on top of it (maybe that's just something I'll need to get used to here). While the food was okay at best, what really earned them the one star review was how flirty the waitress was to my husband. He thought it was amusing and I found it quite ridiculous. At the end of the night while we were paying she asked ME to tell HIM to come back and see her soon. No sweetie, neither of us will be back.

Wow, what a difference 24 hours makes! I left a glowing review yesterday evening because my boyfriend and I genuinely love this place. Tonight we went with friends to eat, on account of the $1.99 margarita special they have on Tuesdays. When we walked in, the marker board at the entrance of the main dining room confirmed the special was going on. I had 2 margaritas with my meal, boyfriend had 3. We get our bill, and have nearly $30 in margaritas on it. No big deal, probably just an error when ringing up our tab. When my boyfriend points out the error to the gentleman running the register (who was also our waiter, and seems to be the manager/owner), he explained that we had to ask for the "special" margarita. That since we didn't specify, we were given the standard $6 margarita. What on earth?! We have eaten here on so many Tuesday evenings specifically because of this special, and have NEVER had to request the "special" margarita. After much back and forth, the manager/owner agreed to knock 2 margs off our tab. But it still meant we paid $18 for our drinks instead of $10. I'm not sure what kind of bait and switch La Hacienda is trying to pull, but it's incredibly upsetting considering this was one of our favorite local places. We will not be back after the treatment we received this evening. So disappointing!

I would never go back here. It was just not what you would expect. They do have some decent salsa, but that, and the really nice service was the only thing going for this place. When we walked in we were greeted by the restrooms, a flight of stairs, and an elevator. We took the elevator up and the main dining room was really shabby. It was dim, the chairs and tables were old looking and it just wasn't what you would expect from the outside. There was a nice patio overlooking Baum Stadium, so if you are there to watch the game and eat salsa, you made a VERY good choice. Just do not order a meal!!! You start with some really good chips, I will say that these are the best chips I have had in a restaurant, and three different salsas. There is one that is served warm, but it tastes like they skimmed it off the top of a pond, there was a spicier red sauce, which was good but had a pretty mean kick to it, and then there was the classic tomato, onion, pepper chunky variety, that was overall the best one. There are better salsas out there, but this was decent. The chips, by far, were the best part of this meal. I got the Fried avocado with Chicken, I specifically asked for no beans and when I got my plate, less than 5 minutes after we ordered, it was covered in beans. I had to scoot everything around just to eat it without beans covering it all. The rice was OK, not to flavorful but it wasn't super bland...it was edible. The avocado...where do I begin? It was friend in a brown ball, so it looked like someone had dropped a road apple on your plate and covered in cheese sauce. When you cut in, all of that breading falls off, so you are OK there, the breading was nasty. The avocado inside was warm, but it was creamy and perfectly ripe, I actually peeled all the breading off, took out the inside and made come guacamole with my salsa to eat that, it was much better that way. The chicken and cheese inside was over salted and super chewy. I am glad that I ordered the half order and didn't pay the full price for that meal. It was just not good at all. My husband got the steak nachos, they were so covered in beans that he couldn't really eat them. It was the only flavor you got. He gave me a bite, and I am just not a fan of refried beans, so to me, there was so much on there that it was way to overpowering. He ate through about half of it and then left the rest. The cheese sauce on top seemed like melted cheez-whiz, and the steak was good, but there was so little of it that it hardly bears mentioning. Overall, it wasn't the worst place I have ever been, but there are so many better choices for decent Mexican food, just skip this one all together. *EDIT* Tried it again, because I wanted to give them a fair chance and WOW what a mistake!! I had a chicken quesadilla and a cheese enchilada, and you think that no one can mess up a simple quesadilla, but they found a way!! The cheese tasted like feet, the chicken was rubbery and not seasoned, and they serve it with this pico that looks like they scraped it out of someone else's uneaten plate. The enchilada tasted like a 99 cent frozen dinner. This is by far the worst Mexican food ever!!

Dinner was good, great service. Had the enchiladas verdes and it was served hotter than fire. Just the way I like it! Serve hot food hot and cold food cold. Loved it, topped with a cold grande Dos equis. Perfect. I ordered a extra taco for my son and it was out in seconds. Awesome server. Props to Don Jose!

So, so much wrong here... Lets start with what's right: the room itself is pretty, bright colors, tables well spaced, a few decorations on the wall without getting ridiculous. A pretty patio overlooking Baum Stadium. The service, when i went late on Sunday night, was very good. Hell, its open late on a Sunday night, which is nice. Usually, that'd be enough to earn a place 3 stars. But then you get to the menu. Its an impressive list, i'll grant that. Lots of choices, including some items you won't see other places. unfortunately, they all come with HEFTY price tags. An order of combination fajitas is over 20 bucks. Those had better be the best damn fajitas on earth, and given the dish i had, which was similar, i'm guessing they aren't. The meal starts with chips and three salsas. Served warm. Look, I've eaten a lot of mexican food, and had a lot of salsa, and i've never had it served warm before. Or this flavorless. I like a blended salsa, and both of the smoother ones had little to no flavor what so ever. the chips were alright, but nothing special. Not satisfied with the dip options on the table, i ordered a small bowl of queso. Its a white queso, which is fine, and while it had a nice texture, its flavor was pretty standard. Ok, but not worth 3+ dollars. For dinner, I ordered the Jose Special, on the advice of my waitress. The Jose is a mix of fajita chicken and steak, "smoked sausage", and two jumbo shrimp, wrapped in bacon. all of that is smothered in a handfull of what appeared to be jack cheese. Its served on a sizzle platter with onions, rice and beans, and tortillas. Problems abound with this dish. For starters, dropping a handfull of shredded cheese onto a rocket hot sizzle platter is a dumb idea. why? because it burns. And burned cheese is a rather strong flavor. Second, "smoked sausage" turns out to be thin slices of what look like lil smokies, not something like chorizo, or anything that reminds you of sausage. I'd expect better on a pizza. And furthermore, when heated on the sizzle, they give a very strong perfume to the dish, along with another strong flavor. Third, bacon wrapped shrimp are a stupid thing to put on a fajita platter. por que? for starters, bacon wrapped shrimp is a deceptively difficult thing to do well. You have to cook the bacon enough to render it without killing the shrimp. and you have to be very careful about balancing flavors. neither of those concerns were taken into account here. The bacon was cooked, but the shrimps were overdone, and the bacon flavor was also too strong for the surrounding dish. The result was that the steak and chicken, which might have had flavor on their own, were drowned out by a cacophony of burnt cheese, bacon, and lil smokies. Its not a pleasant combination, and its one you pay handsomely for. And if you want sour cream on the side? that's an extra dollar. more tortillas? an extra buck fifty. I had a small queso, the Juan, and a water, and with tip, paid more than $20. I'm not saying i'd never pay $20 for mexican food. But if i do, it had better be at least mildly impressive. This wasn't even close.

Update: Unless you LOVE baseball and don't mind listening to Hogs games being BLASTED over the speaker system, echoing through the restaurant, you might want to avoid game days at La Hacienda. Even after turning the volume down, the room was uncomfortably loud. The evening we visited, there were approximately 8 students sitting in the bar area next to the enormous windows where they could watch the baseball game while eating and drinking. Besides the employees, they were the only people in the restaurant. I can understand drinking margaritas and enjoying the game at high volumes, but this is not a sports bar. It's a Mexican restaurant. The sports commentary not only made our ears ring, it made any dinner conversation difficult if not impossible. Nevertheless, the food was amazing and the service fabulous. The next time we felt like Mexican food, it was also a game night. We headed to the original La Hacienda to check it out.

The idea of a restaurant upstairs is pretty awesome. The patio looks cool, it over looks into the stadium almost, and I bet on game days it's awesome to be out there. However, almost everything else just plain old sucked. The food tasted like over salted vomit. It looked like vomit with cheese melted on top. Thank goodness it didn't smell like vomit, otherwise I would've thrown up on it then it would really BE vomit. The food did come out fast though. And our server was nice. The atmosphere was terrible, but that's probably because there were only three other tables in there. I just didn't enjoy the food. We came here because we live nearby and only had an hour to spare for food. I will not be coming back. The food is terrible. :(

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
