Full disclosure, I manage a high end coffee shop in Atlanta. I have high expectations when it comes to coffee, and I enjoy seeking out the local independent café whenever I am travelling. But I understand not everyone has my standards, and I try not to judge too harshly. I just know what to look for and how to get a feel for a place. I recently went to my childhood home town of Arkadelphia to walk down memory lane, and was glad to see a café downtown. While this may be the only coffee place in town, it is not serious about coffee. The interior is pretty cool, and I did not try the food. So this review is about the experience and the coffee. I ordered a double espresso and a small coffee. This started a display of confusion i've never before seen in any coffee shop. "Double espresso" is pretty standard terminology for two ounces of espresso, pulled from one portafilter. The girl at the register asked the other two employees, "how do I ring up a double espresso? What is that? Is that a small with an extra shot or a large or what?" They argued for a solid minute about what it was and how to ring it up, referred to a chart on the wall, until someone finally asked me in an aggravated tone, "How many shots do you want?! Two or four?" I replied that I wanted one double shot, or two ounces of espresso. The guy at the machine finally dosed the portafilter with not enough grinds, put it on the group head, and left it. You have to pull the shot immediately after putting the portafilter on the group head. The girl at the register came back and said, where's the espresso? The guy said, it's in there, just hit the button. She did, and it dispensed an automatic shot that finished in under 8 seconds. Espresso takes between 25 and 30 seconds to finish brewing. The grind was either far too course or the dose was too low. She served me a thin double with no crema to speak of, which I drank anyway because i needed the caffeine. She also forgot about the small coffee, I had to get her attention to which she responded with annoyance. The drip coffee was actually really tasty, which is the only reason this review is two stars. It was so good, I wanted to ask where their coffee was sourced from, but I didnt feel like interacting with the staff anymore. If you don't educate and train your staff about the product they serve, you are clearly not serious about coffee. I can't imagine what would have happened if I had ordered a cortado or a traditional cappuccino. Milk drinks are something I would not even try if the staff can't even pull a proper espresso shot. Watch some videos on youtube on how to pull shots, get passionate about your coffee, and customers will flock and keep coming back. There's nothing to ruin a coffee experience like a clueless staff.

Such nice people and delicious food!! The service can be kind of slow, but you know it's being made fresh!

A wonderful find on my first tip to the downtown area. The menu is extensive and offers something for every taste. Dishes are crafted from scratch recipes for sure. Order at counter and friendly staff will bring to your table. Ps. Save room for dessert!!

Dinner menu is outstanding. Presentation and taste are excellent. I have never ordered anything after 4p that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. I high recommend the salmon. The Greek pizza is tasty, but I leave off the purple onions- Lunch sandwiches would be better without lettuce. Soups are outstanding! Desserts and lattes and open till 10p is unusual for a small town! Thanks for that-

I don't usually give 5 stars but I like to take into account where I am as a contributing factor. This may not be a 5 star coffee shop in Atlanta, but I certainly didn't expect to find this cool little shop in arkadelphia. It's 5 star compared to most anything else in a 50 mile radius! Good coffee, tasty breakfast sandwich, reasonable prices, good atmosphere, lots of food and drink options, and a friendly staff. If I come back to arkadelphia I'll be back!

Cute restaurant and fresh food!! I've eaten all over Arkansas and this is probably one of my favorite cafes. I had a portobello mushroom wrap with a tomato basil tortilla with a pasta salad.

A little treasure in downtown Arkadelphia. I found a great new headband and tried lotions while browsing the shop while waiting for my yummy hazelnut latte to be made.

Long time visitor of Arkdalephia and now current resident and have eaten food from Allen's to Cracker Barrel in Caddo Calley and have honestly have never had a better experience with food or customer service than I have at Java Primo in the surrounding area unless it was home cooked. Today my wife and I split the Greek chicken wrap and gyro, and I am honestly waiting to go to sleep and wake up in the morning and can not wait till lunch again. I also recommend and will be partaking myself tonight the peanut butter pie.

I was in town for a wedding for 4 days and I stopped by this little coffee house probably 6 times. the baristas always knew how to make my drink right. The shots were pulled right, and never let them die. So much better than the Starbucks in town.

We were on our way back to the Dallas metroplex on a Sunday afternoon and decided to stop in here for a light meal. I can't speak to the negative review about the coffee since I didn't order that, but I can say that the three of us enjoyed our sandwich meals and were very satisfied. I had a turkey on grilled sourdough bread, with a scoop of baked-potato salad. The bread was fresh and tasty and the sandwich had a good balance of meat to condiments. The potato salad was very good. I loved the repurposed old building with its partial brick walls and tin ceiling. The photo of the shop's interior shown here doesn't do justice to its charm. Each booth features an art-glass pendant light fixture, no two of which are alike in shape or color. There are plenty of funky little gift items to browse through while you wait on your meal. We've been to Arkadelphia four times (going and coming from Hot Springs), and eaten here and at Slim & Shorty's. We were pleased with both places.

Haven't found too many places like this in the area. The atmosphere is cozy, the food tastes great, ambience is fantastic. I can see this being a great place to bring work (although it's a bit dim) and enjoy their endless coffee (which I haven't tried, but looks like a good deal). They have breakfast food. And coffee. And beer. What else could you want?
