Nothing wrong with this place. It's spacious. Lots of covered patio seating and on a Sunday you pay a dollar to be a "member" likely due to the county's blue laws. Sorority sisters and me had chips and salsa, beef taco, and combo plates including their version of a speedy Gonzales and chicken burrito. Sister Christine didn't like that her chicken burrito's cheese was not melted. The beans were good but the rice really shined. Waters beers and bloody Marys were served quickly, and the bloody Mary had a good kick! Do know that the bar and one patio allows smoking. It was a great day-after-heavy-metal-show place for us to enjoy the gorgeous weather and chat before heading north. Popular and parking lot was packed at 1:30 PM. Great location of you are seeing a show at oak mountain amphitheater you can walk from the venue here for a post concert refreshment or you can walk from any of the nearby. Hotels. One shares a parking lot with the restaurant. We stayed at Fairfield inn which is a five minute walk to the restaurant.

Very good service. Had my water filled repeatedly and never had to ask once. The chips are absolutely delicious - thin, crispy, and come to the table warm! Went with a party of 7 and we each got our own little salsa container. Salsa was chunky and fresh tasting with the perfect amount of spice. Both the chips and salsa were repeatedly filled before even being empty. I definitely ate way too many chips here! For an appetizer we tried the queso with chorizo. Got the large portion which ended up being way too much but it was delicious. Creamy cheese with spicy chunks of chorizo. I love chorizo!! For my entree I got the carnitas. All I can say is o"h my god." The chunks of pork were huge and juicy inside while being crunchy on the outside. The flavoring was just perfect. The beans were delicious as was the rice. I enjoyed mixing my fresh pico de gallo with the rice. Yum. There was also a side of guacamole but this wasn't really anything special unfortunately. Other things ordered by the table included the beef taco salad, a burrito, pollo asada, and fish tacos. Everyone was very very pleased. The portions here are huge. We all had enough for leftovers. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the happy hour! Included cheap beer (not sure of the prices) and $4 margs. I tried the original and the strawberry which were both so yummy. Seemed a bit strong handed with the tequila which is not an issue. My friend got the mango and enjoyed it!

We went there for lunch. It's spacious in and out. Ordered Quesadillas and Chimichanga. Food and the service was good.

At the time we went to the restaurant it smelled like cigarettes and was smoke filled by puffing patrons. Hopefully they no longer allow smoking. Check on it before you go! We could not eat there because the cigarette smell was so overwhelming. So I give them one star for environment. Check with other reviewers for food reviews!

Must visit this place. Great atmosphere with authentic quality food. Their salsa is fresh and has just the right heat. Give it a shot; you will not be disappointing in anything you order.

MOST HORRIBLE MEXICAN RESTAURANT EVER!!! This Mexican restaurant can easily be rated at 0 stars. The only reason I went here was because I was recommended to try this place by another person. He was wrong. When we walked in, the placed reeked of smoking smell, and is not family oriented. Even in the non-smoking section, it reeked of smoke. We had to ask to sit outside, and we ordered drinks and got chips and salsa. The chips tasted like Moe's, and not like a Mexican restaurant, and the salsa was a watered down mess. We ordered our food, and I ordered a vegetarian fajita. THESE FAJITAS BRING SHAME TO REAL FAJITAS! It had raw vegetables, with oil on top. These vegetables were not even sauteed all the way, and it came with butter and oil on the side. There was a big piece of corn that we were questioning how to eat. The vegetables were not even cut small like most fajitas, but rather big chunks that are impossible to swallow. We also ordered a Chicken Taco Salad, that was completely dry and tasteless. And to top it off, the bill was $50 for 3 people... SO EXPENSIVE!!! I could eat at another great restaurant and have a cheaper bill, with WAY BETTER food. Overall, everyone who recommends this restaurant is wrong in my opinion, and to anyone who debates about trying this place should skip this restaurant.

Love this place. The owner makes personal rounds to each table to greet patrons. That makes a huge difference. Great service. Great food.

If I could give a 4.5 I would. Great service, very attentive. Happy hour draft domestic beer prices are good. Chips are crispy and thin and the salsa is tasty. I ate the grilled shrimp tacos and was quite pleased. The bar area is filled with spirited regulars. Overall great experience.

The ground beef in the chimichanga was too salty and the queso sauce looked like brown gravy taste it close to it.

The service at this restaurant is very friendly and quick. The food is pretty good, their chips are very light and crisp, I believe that is my most favorite part of this restaurant. The menu items that I selected were about as I expected them. The portion sizes are more then enough for one person. The amount of choices on the menu is pretty small. The bar is VERY smokey, luckily the restaurant is well separated from the bar so you usually do not have any sort of smoke on that side. The bar is also pretty loud, the restaurant is nice.

This place makes my favorite Tex-Mexican food in the area, but I don't think everything on the menu is special. The grilled meat items are great, though. They have a nice mesquite flavor. Guacamole is made table-side, and entrees always seem to taste better than their counterparts at would-be peer restaurants such as their neighbor, 2 Pesos. Half of the place is an indoor/outdoor bar, and they'll have live music on the weekends. I've noticed that a lot of Mexican restaurants in the metro area get reviewed for their drinks more than their food. I'm reviewing the food here, but the drinks are also fine (Cazadores).

There is a lesson for both of us here. For me... don't order a hamburger at a Mexican restaurant. For the Margarita Grill... don't serve something that you aren't going to try and do well. If I had been in the mood for rice and beans, they probably would have received four stars. We stopped here because my wife and boys wanted some Mexican food. The service was outstanding. They checked on us frequently. My wife's burrito was fantastic. My youngest's rice and beans were very tasty. My oldest's chicken fingers would have been really good with a little salt. My hamburger was terrible. It reminded me of a burger that I ate the zoo once, which was obviously pre-cooked and frozen. So the Margarita Grill gets kudos for good service and good Mexican food. They get penalized for having something on their menu that they obviously don't care to do well.

Best guacamole, made fresh table side. Crazy Felipe is a treat with an awesome garlic butter sauce. Great place to meet up with friends on a Friday after work for apply hour & great food. Caribbean chic wings are a nice change from the norm. RJ is also a great host.

I live fairly close to this restaurant and always see a lot of cars in their parking lot on the weekend nights - which is actually why I wanted to try it. Live music and outdoor seating always attracts my attention. Not too pricey, however the food wasn't that great. I absolutely love carne asada but I almost felt ripped off with the carne asada that I was served. It was very bland and very dry. The margaritas weren't anything to talk positively about. Two stars for decent service and live music.

We were traveling through and wanted to eat at a local, not chain restaurant, so this was closest to our hotel. Seating us was quick but service was not friendly at all. The chips and salsa given upon seating were not good. Salsa had little flavor, no heat at all and the chips tasted of rancid oil to both of us. My boyfriend and I had the chicken fajitas which were, we agreed, very bland. There was no preparation to them and it was like they cooked the chicken and dropped it on top of some bell peppers & onions and a tomato slide (we wondered if the chicken was boiled since there was no char to the chicken and it almost just melted in your mouth - no texture & no flavor at all). We had to wave our waiter down a couple of times for refills on drinks and waters. We thought the chicken fajitas price was expensive at $16.99 each and the seafood fajitas (Fajitas Del Mar) were $29.95 per entree. We requested some corn tortillas along with the flour and they charged $.50 for the extra tortillas. Fajitas came with rice and refried beans. The beans were stretched with flour and why would you stretch refried beans? They're cheap and easy. The rice was delicious and was the best part of the meal. The plus side was the Coors Light was cheap (I think $1.99) and they had several TVs to watch, if you're interested in TV. The bar area of the restaurant (which included an outdoor area) was smoking section but the restaurant indoors was not smoking.

Very good food. Had Chicken Fajitas with rice and beans. Sat out on the patio with wife on this beautiful day and nice breeze. Was like being on the beach.

Not sure why so many people like this place, maybe they don't know what Mexican food is supposed to taste like or they are drunk when reviewing. When you ask a waitress what's good on their menu and she laughs sarcastically, it's a good idea to leave. Queso dip tasted like white gravy, food was super expensive and NOT good. Won't be back

We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The kids got a kick out watching the guacamole being made at the table, I enjoyed my tangy salmon tacos and we all liked listening to the guitar player, who was out in the enclosed patio. Management stopped by and genuinely thanked us for coming in, which you don't get much of these days. If we are back in the area we will stop back for certain!

This place is great. The shrimp tacos, soup, rice, cheese dip - all better than I expected. The shrimp fajitas were very good, came with a good soup and drawn Butter. The cheese dip is quite different than the standard fare found at every other Mexican place. I believe this place is a chain- but don't let that stop you from going. The service was great. The only thing I could say is that dinner prices might be a bit high. Update: been back a number of times and like it better each time. Two negatives: the flan is not good and parking is limited.

Didn't know what to expect from a defunct Buffalo's Cafe to a Mexican restaurant, but was pleasantly surprised. the chips were great, and the shrimp tacos were excellent! They were wood grilled, and the highlight!

Try the Chicken soup. I think it is outstanding! Wonderful rich broth with fresh vegetables and a slice of avocado on top. The soup is a little spicy so be prepared for that. For lunch, a bowl of the soup and a couple of warm flour tortillas is a perfect choice. There is also an mesquite grilled tilapia entree that I highly recommend. The fish is served with rice, beans, pico de gallo and a cup of the soup. The portion is very generous and especially for lunch. If you have a big appetite, go for it.

The food was great and the people were nice enough (though i'm over 20-something hostesses w/ attitude) however, my WIFE got SICK for over a day and she was the only one who had the GUACOMOLE. So be careful. Great chips!!!

Our neighborhood has numerous Mexican restaurants, but this is our favorite. Check out the cheese enchiladas and the other unique Cuban recipes. My husband loves their TopShelf margaritas.

The food was quite good but I was dissapointed in the lack of choices .The tortilla chips were very light and crispy which could be a good thing but as I am a salsa addict they did not work for me .Staff was very friendly and never had to wait for a refill.

What an unexpected pleasure! Driving thru Alabama my wife searched Yelp for options. I chose the lunch special; enchilada, taco, rice and beans. We added an order of guacamole which was made fresh at our table. It was way beyond expectation across the board: food quality, flavor, freshness. A definite recommend and do over!

This is my town, and you can't do any better for Tex Mex than Margarita Grill. This is authentic Tex Mex, too! The salsa is freshly made every day, the steak is grilled over mesquite, and the margaritas are...well...just dangerous! My favorite is the shrimp enchiladas, my wife loves the shrimp bruchetta, and my sons love the steak named Crazy Javier. Beware, though, of the great chips and salsa. Many a meal we've taken home in a to go box because we were too full on chips and salsa to eat, especially if we get some cheese dip also. When you go in, ask if Javier ("J") is in. He's the manager, and he'll take great care of you.
