Ok, let me begin first by saying that I frequent a lot of mexican restaurants. I love mexican food, good or bad. I love eating tortilla chips and drinking margaritas with my husband. BUT this place is so good. We got the gaby's special and it was ahhhmazing. Everything cooked PERFECTLY. SO good! I will be coming back! So much better than el rincon!

The $11 supreme burrito is enough to feed 2 people and a baby. This has to be the cheapest family meal yet! It was wet, gooey, and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. This is what burritos of heaven were made of. However, the shrimp quesadilla was much smaller, not as great, and ranging around $9 that even a baby can finish that. It came with a pickled salad that was really hard and chewy. The difference between the $9 quesadilla and the a-la-carte version is that you pay nearly $5 more to have this salad and a scoop of sour cream. The chips and salsa were good as expected. They should've given more salsa (as always)!

As a Latina woman who was lived in several big cities I'm deeply disappointed in the quality of "Mexican" food in Tuscaloosa and Los Tarascos is just another example. Sad, fake cheese is used in the enchiladas and depressing frozen fish in the fish tacos. Mexican food is always fresh and vibrant, never frozen, never fake.

Our go to place for Mexican food. There are several places that are really good in Tuscaloosa but Los Tarascos is our favorite. 51 steak is one of my favorite foods period!

This review is coming from someone that was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and now resides proudly in Houston. I like Mexican food a lot. I am fairly critical of the Americanization of international foods. I was pleasantly surprised at Los Tarascos. Not what I expected of a Mexican restaurant in Bama. The restaurant is authentic looking and very clean. The staff was amazing and spent time answering questions and recommending other local establishments. I sat at the bar and it appeared to have everything I would need for a day after work or to watch the game. The food was good, trying to stay true to Mexican food while catering to the local patrons. The chips were warm and the salsa was not very spicy (I like it hot), but still flavorful. Tamales were good and enchiladas were meaty. The fresh guacamole is a must try. Not a large menu, but had plenty of good things to try. I will be returning.

The first thing I want to say about Los Tarascos is that they have absolutely nailed the ambiance you'd want in a Mexican restaurant. It's clean without feeling sterile. The lights are dim but not dark. The salsa and warm chips show up immediately upon being seated in their worn-smooth wood booths. The waiters are always laid back, and very polite. I sometimes get the regular frozen margarita and have never been disappointed. The food is ...well.... Let me preface this by saying that I'm from Philadelphia and we aren't particularly known for our Mexican cuisine, and it's not something I've eaten out a whole bunch. So my expectations range from home-made tacos to Taco Bell to places like Chipotle and Qdoba. So I don't know that I'm the biggest expert on what "authentic" Mexican food actually is. I might not even like it. That said, my favorite thing to get is the Queso Fundido, which is actually on the appetizer menu. It's this really awesome dish of shrimp (or chicken or beef) with a bunch of poblano peppers, onions, and cheese melted and served with pico de gallo and warm flour tortillas. I don't particularly care for most of the other things I've tried there, to the point that I'm a bit scared to experiment. Most of the items have a whole lot of meat and cheese, yet seem oddly bland to me. Bland cheese, bland meat, the salad is bland. I'm not sure what's going on or maybe it's just me, but if you go, try the queso fundido, because it's extremely tasty!

Relative to Tuscaloosa, this is the best/most authentic Mexican restaurant I've found

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
