I love the cafeteria-style Southern restaurant. Meat and threes open up a world or possibilities, and most of them end up being pretty darn good. Blue Moon Cafe an excellent modern realization of this concept, with a wide open space with lots of tables and plenty of people to help you get your drinks and anything else you'll need. Plus, they're even open for Sunday lunch (though it costs a bit more than the rest of the week). HOW do these places manage to keep their fried chicken crispy when it's sitting in that hotel pan, waiting for me to pick it up? I'll never understand, but Blue Moon's was awesome, with a crispy crunch that was more airy than some other places I've tried around here. Collards and broccoli casserole were just dandy, too. The carrot salad was sweet enough to work as a dessert, if you weren't so inclined to grab an actual dessert from the buffet line. As I sat there and ate my Sunday lunch, I watched the stream of people filter in through the door, no doubt coming straight from church and wanting to indulge in the particular speciality that defines this part of the country. Even if the taste of the food hadn't convinced me, I knew from the local support that Blue Moon Cafe is the real deal.

Hard to review when not open. Please update hours of operation. Drove 10 minutes to get here and we find out the place changed operating hours 5 months ago and now is only open for lunch during the week.

If you have no taste buds, this is the place for you! Can't believe we wasted so much money on yucky food. Not returning.

My fellow yelping Los Angelites may not know what a country boy means when he talks about gettin' his meat and three. It's hard to come by on the West Coast. So whenever i'm back South i run, not walk, to the Blue Moon Cafe. At first glance the BMC may not seem like holy ground for southern food. It's set in a nondescript shopping center in Suburban East Montgomery. But if you're looking to get your meat and three on, it's the place for you. They keep odd hours.. 11-2:30 or so is it for lunch, but it's everything you could ask for. Today i had the poppy seed chicken, broccoli casserole, green beans and peach cobbler. Choice of roll or cornbread (cornbread, you know) and SWEET ice tea. Oh my. The nice lady serving you up was just as precious as could be and everyone working there takes a minute to chat and ask about your day. Dang i just love being back home. If you like fried okra, rutabaga, black eyed peas, fried chicken, pork cops, sweet potato souffle, etc., do yourself a favor and put this place on your lunch schedule should you find yourself in the Gump.
