I went to the Main Street Tavern on February 11, 2011 around 6pm with my husband. When we walked in, we were a little confused on what to do, because no one greeted us, and there was no sign saying to seat yourself. We wandered around and found a booth to sit in. We were immediately greeted then by a server and had our water within 2 minutes of sitting down. The place was busy, but our appetizer and entree orders were taken within 5 minutes of sitting and we had our appetizers of fried mushrooms within 10 minutes of arriving. The fried mushrooms arrived at the table in a black plastic basket with black and white checked wax paper. It was a nice presentation. The gave us ranch dressing along with the apps, but it was watered down. I talked to a friend that dines there frequently and she said that usually the ranch dressing is not this way. Our entrees came perfectly spaced in time from the time we received our appetizers. We ordered the swiss mushroom burger and the buffalo chicken burger. We spilt them. Our side was sweet potato fries. I have not tasted sweet potato fries this good since Austin, Texas where I worked as a server. They were amazing. I loved them. The swiss burger with mushrooms was great. It was one of the best burgers I have had in a very long time. The buffalo chicken burger was good, but not a great as the swiss mushroom burger. The breading for good and the distribution of sauce was good. We asked to sub bleu cheese for ranch and it was no problem. After dinner there was going to be a band playing so we decided to come back and see the Hunter Lawley Band, which is a local country rock band. The cover was $5, which is not so high. However, there were people smoking everywhere. Even the guy collecting money at the door was smoking. We only stayed for thirty minutes because of the smoke and didn't even get a drink. I was highly disappointed that they allowed people to smoke in the restaurant where we had just eaten and were trying to enjoy a night out. It makes me not want to return to the Main Street Tavern because of it. Its a shame too, because the food was very good. If you don't have a problem with people smoking where you eat.

I have been to this place several times when coming to town for business. The restaurant is family owned with few additional staff. They are very friendly. The food comes out fast and temperature hot like you would cook at home. Ask for Nicole and get her recommendation because you will be a happy customer. :-)

Besides the coffee house this is about the only non fast food you'll find in Montevallo. Love the old tin ceiling & black & white photos from 1950's. Bathroom was a little odd w/o a mirror, but there are plenty in the hallway to the bathroom. Feels a little like Cheers with regulars stopping at a table or two with a hello & hand shake. My Fish Burrito was very tasty w/ plenty of Tilapia, the pico de gallo gave it a nice kick. Not too much pico, just right. Wife liked the pimento sandwich with toasted bread, plenty of flavor but not too strong. The pasta salad was a slightly dry.

If you haven't had a burger from the tavern, you need to add it to your bucket list. Not only one of the best in Shelby county, one of the top burgers in the state. Please check them out

Our first time to visit this local spot. Reviews we read were all favorable but, somewhere, the wheels fell off! Our group numbered 24 and reservations were made several weeks ago and confirmed on Monday prior to our Wednesday arrival. We arrived at 12:15, the agreed upon time, only to find that they weren't expecting us! Making matters worse, a bus load of 46 had just been seated and got most all of the food. We were seated but didn't get drinks for an hour with food served 15 minutes after that. I had meatloaf, a daily item, and it came burned and crunchy on the bottom and sides. The gravy poured over it was like brown salt brine, far too salty and impossible to remove. The fried apple pie and ice cream were excellent, though, but was "too little, too late" to save this bad meal. Our single waitress was delightful and remained calm in spite facing a size able crowd of vocal seniors all alone. My hat's off to her. Total time for lunch was 2 hours, 11 minutes.

The food was spectacular. It's a small place but well worth it. This is not a fast food place so don't expect to be in and out in 30 min. Enjoy your time with friends and the exquisite food. We went on a Thursday night at 8pm then at 9:30 as we were leaving they were transforming the tavern into a bar and night club.

Very very good service and outstanding food! Prices may look high at a glance but upon arrival of your food you will soon realize that the prices are more than justifiable! Great place, great food!!!

We have been here twice and both times have had a very good experience. My wife had the pork chops and I got the fish burrito our first trip and the shrimp pasta the second. The burrito was decent but the pasta was quite good. I think they call it the J Lawley Pasta. We were definitely surprised to find such a nice little restaurant in this run down strip. The service has been excellent both times and they have very good drinks. Definitely give it a try!

I just found this place randomly while in town for a training seminar and I will certainly not forget my experience. After having a light dinner of fish n chips and a homemade bread pudding.. I was convinced that Main Street tavern is a little known jewel of the area and should definitely not be passed up if given the opportunity to eat there.. I spoke with the owners father and was extremely pleased with the food and service which go hand in hand for any dining experience. Absolutely picked the right place to go for the weekend

Dinner was pretty good. We had burgers. Sweet potato fries were awesome. Wings were just ok. I like my wings a little crispy and theirs really weren't. Sauce on the wings was delish. Also had the donuts for dessert. They were yummy but served with Hershey's syrup. They really need a raspberry purée or better chocolate sauce for dipping.

Great place-a little bit of everything-burgers are a good value-pitchers of pecan draft beer are unique- onion straws are the best appetizer-usually crowded on weekends

I was in the area to lead a class at the University. The Eclispse was recommended to me, but silly me couldn't find it. I then ran into someone that recommended the Tavern - and showed me an article in the Shelby Magazine about the tavern. Nice photos in the magazine. I walked in around 4:30 - not the busiest time. The staff was nice and friendly - and everyone that walked by offered to refill my tea (gotta LOVE that!). Ordered the Chicken Parmesan, it came quickly and tasted great! Too much to eat in one setting, so had to pace myself and save enough for leftovers (that tasted just fine!) Next time I'm in the area, I will probably try the Eclipse -- but I didn't see the "excellent French Dip" on the menu. I bet I would always eat the Tavern if I had seen that!

Excellent French Dip sub! This is a great place for lunch (or dinner, I'm told). Good atmosphere and friendly serivce. Expect to wait for the food but it is freshly made and well worth the wait.

Ate here for lunch. Collards had too much salt to enjoy plus they had too much bacon to be healthy. Spring chicken was very good. Service not too great.
