I grew up eating at The Captains Table. Their steaks surpassed those served at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. The seafood was spectacular as well. We have given them three chances to win me back and they have failed thrice. Look...I'm not squeamish, but if the dining room has food solids stuck in the carpet and congealed egg yolks on the table during lunch service, how bad must things be in the kitchen? As a child during the eighties, we ate there twice a week. It makes me sad to see an institution reduced to this. Go to Waffle House for breakfast and use the coin you save to enjoy dinner at Felix's.

Terrible service, unfriendly and unhelpful staff who seem to resent the customers' imposition on their time.

Pricey shrimps!! I ordered some shrimps that cost $18.95 the plate, expecting some jumbo breaded shrimps. When I received my plate, I got 7 pieces of shrimps smaller than the Long John silver shrimps! Horrible service! I asked for some straws and the waitress ignored me, then I asked for a fork and never got it! Never coming back!

From the reviews, we were expecting a good seafood restaurant. We were seriously disappointed. Appetizer: Breaded crab claws. They were clearly defrosted from frozen and, with the strong ammonia odor, clearly spoiled. Sent back. Oysters on half shell were nice and cool but rather tasteless probably because they were rather small (or "farmed" or old?). Entree: Red fish fillet. Dry and leathery, it was seriously overcooked. Waitstaff were friendly, attentive and professional but the ambiance bright and loud. Fail!

Can I give a place zero stars? This place happened to be next to the Battleship Park so we stopped for lunch before our tour. There are stains on the menus, stains on the floor, dirty napkins under the table etc. We waited half an hour for sandwiches that were notable only for their grossness. Take my advice, drive to the next exit and eat at McDonalds.

This used to be one of my favorite places for breakfast and dinner. It's truly sad to see the depth of which it has fallen. I was one of two tables and service was extremely slow. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The server brought out our biscuits and said, "she burnt them so I just pulled the black bottoms off...I don't know what else to do about them". Not a genius in the kitchen but it's been my experience that it takes a lot of effort to burn a frozen, can biscuit. Next time, I'll just pass on by and keep my memories and wallet intact.

Had breakfast here with a party of 4. Service was ok. We all ordered the same thing, omelettes with cheese, bacon, and sausage. The food took forever to come out of the kitchen and there was only a half dozen or so other patrons. The waitress brought food to the other 3 in my party first. 5 minutes later my food comes out and it was way over done and browned on the outside. I mean how does that slip by quality control? One bite tasted like I was chewing on a bicycle tire. I sent the food back and another 10 minutes later I finally got my omelette. I ate it because I was starving. It was ok, nothing special. The waitress never offered to reduce my bill and I was in too much of a hurry to get to a meeting I just paid and left. The captain sucks.

The restaurant is clean, but I concur with all the others. Egg NOT even close to order and the rest was greasy. Slow on refills and server was unconcerned with our level of satisfaction. But, they have a convenient location for business breakfasts. Hopefully they find a better manager. This place could be great.

Filthy and gross. As another reviewer noted John's son will just about stalk you for a bad review, but this place is just yuck! John Word's name used to carry a lot of clout. Quality was second to none. It appears that same (grand)son sold that legacy off. Last week I met someone for breakfast. We waited roughly ten minutes to be seated, which unfortunately gave me time to look around. The windows were extremely dirty and the floor was just ick! When we were seated our table was sticky - and not that fresh sticky sort of thing. Our waitress was prompt, but not warm. She offered to wipe the table with a cloth that looked like something I would not clean a toilet with. The coffee was good. My juice was room temp. The hash browns could have been fresh, but they were so shredded it was hard to tell. My bisquit was black on the bottom. The egg was fine. We were served within 15 minutes of placing our order. Once we finished our meal it took quite some time for the waitress to bring the tab. It was breakfast, which should be a bit brisk in presentation, but was not. The meal and service were poor, but the environment was worse. Personally I just do not want strange things sticking to my clothes, or to see spiders as I walk into a food establishment. Take a pass. Even if they were giving away food I would steer my friends away.

I went here once for dinner with my husband because we were told that it was fabulous by some folks who dine here often. Obviously, their tastebuds are numb and they don't care about cleanliness. Fast forward 4 years. a lunch date with a dear friend. The service was meh, I ordered the Oyster PoBoy but guess what? No oysters!! Really? NO OYSTERS in Mobile, AL! My friend ordered the catch of the day with a cup of gumbo. It was the barely warm and was just plain yucky looking. It definitely goes into the Worst Gumbo on the planet category. I got a Shrimp PoBoy. Lots and lots of teeny tiny shrimp. It tasted OK but the bread was divine. When I asked for a box..guess what? No boxes so I was given three sheets of aluminum wrap and a paper bag. Not impressed at all. Our server was very bland but some were really spot on. The place needs a major renovation of decor and cooking staff. I'm sure John Word is very sad that his legacy has fallen into such chaos and disorder. No more chances from me.

One of the ALL TIME WORST experiences of my life! Bad food from even worse owners! My husband did not like his food so he sent it back and did not want another plate. They refused to take it off the bill the treated to call the police on us! I wouldn't even give this place one star! And another thing, the 19 yr old own Morgan W keeps harassing me now by messaging me here on Yelp! And we stayed , or should I say were going to stay at the hotel next to the resturaunt, now has my info and is stalking me on the web. As she writes to me about my age and what not! BEWARE of this place please!

Decent meal. Ended up here for lunch and them checked reviews. Expected the worse but okay. Yes the place needs a good cleaning and some repair. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food came out unreasonable time. One in our group had crab omelette. Lots of crab but eggs poorly prepared. Fried crab claws, broiled shrimp and jambalaya good but not stupendous. Sides of fried green tomatoes and field peas were served hot well prepared. All in all I could eat there again but would like to hear they focused only on seafood and had cleaned the place up

I wrote about this before, but I just have to say again that this stands out as the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. They served me spoiled crab claws! Many months later, I can still vividly remember the ammonia flavor in my mouth. The little piece of fried fish that was served to my husband was as thin, dry and tasteless as a piece of breaded cardboard. The waiter had a smarmy attitude. A total tourist trap. Yecch.

Service was VERY slow. Food was plentiful, but that is it's only positive. Burnt grilled cheese, lukewarm soup, warm applesauce and cold mashed potatoes. Crabcakes were mush. Terrible. Avoid this place...

This is a new low. Out of respect for the owner who has been around a long time, I will not go into detail about our experience. Will only say, now that his daughter is running the place they might as well go ahead and close the doors. She should be ashamed, because John Word really did care about his business and customers, and she is taking away from his legacy.

We had a really nice waitress. She was helpful and efficient. The food was good but a little pricey for breakfast. But the best pancakes I had (our wait staff recommended) and she was right, it was nice and fluffy. The place was a nice size and has a nice view of the USS Alabama too. Eat here if you're in the area and have cravings for pancakes!! Yum! NOTE: Lots of old photos decorate the place.

My husband and I drove from Mississippi to see the USS Alabama(If you are ever in the area it is SO worth checking out. I loved it!) The view of the battleship from the window was wonderful. There was no where to stop to eat on the way, so by the time we got there somebody was all grump. Luckily, we were only having breakfast which is difficult to mess up. My husband got the French toast, I did not get to taste it so I guess it was good. I ordered eggs over easy and bacon with a biscuit and hash browns. The buscuit was buttery and delicious. The hashbrowns were grated potatoes, not my favorite but they were fine. Everything was basic diner food. I was grateful for the coffee I am finding it hard to get a good cup of coffee in the south but this one was chicory free and not burnt! The service was fast and friendly. My only criticisms is that their was no music playing. It was not a huge problem and probably just an oversight. Also, it would have been great if they offered outdoor seating it was beautiful outside.

My coworkers and I came by on a quiet, Wednesday night. We traveled from Tuscaloosa for a work-related event and I was excited to finally taste some Gulf Coast seafood. I should have expected the high prices, but most of what was on the menu was $25+! So after spending several minutes looking through the menu, I chose the crab cakes with a side of a salad and potatoes au gratin. The salad was decent. It's lettuce and salad dressing so how wrong can you go right? The potatoes au gratin were great! Very tasty. But the crab cakes...oh the crab cakes. Let's just say I was really, really disappointed. Though I guess I should have expected that since the menu had them listed as 50% crab meat. I hardly finished the one of the two I was served. The scenery and our waiter were really the only positives from my experience here. The food isn't much to write home about.

I've given this one time to settle out. We live locally and have seen the "southern style breakfast" and "breakfast served all day" signs for the past year. We decided to try this restaurant on Mother's Day this year. We have two children under 5. Another family was seated after us. It took the staff about 5 minutes to figure out who our waitress was to take our drink order and another 5-8 minutes to take our food order. We were informed that we couldn't have pancakes or french toast because it was late in the morning and the grill was going to be used for lunch. We did not leave a tip. (We normally leave 20 percent). I called later to speak to the manager and the person who answered set the receiver on the counter. I listened to the hostess talk to her friend and other patrons for 15 minutes before I hung up and tried to call back. Guess what... The line was busy from my previous call. I visited the owner's website that he has for the jazz bar that is open at night and requested he contact me to discuss this matter. I was ignored. Avoid this restaurant. It's a tourist trap located adjacent to one of this nation's finest battleships. This restaurant preys on the sacrifices of the veterans that the Alabama Battleship Park represents.

Our waitress was very rude and seemed as if she didn't want to be there. I asked her what came on their baked potato and very sarcastically she stated, "Well....butter and sour cream, of course." She brought my wife two Cokes initially so she wouldn't have to return. My food was ok but my wife said the french toast had a strange taste and she couldn't eat it.
