The shredded chicken chimichanga is fantastic!! I travel to Mobile monthly and love this place!! The only thing that kept this from being 5 stars is the fact that I wish they would bring back the live entertainment on the patio on Tuesday night!!

My dad and I were staying at a nearby hotel. We decided to eat somewhere close since we had to wake up early the next morning. We decided to go to this restaurant. I decided to get the queso cheese. This was very good! I recommend it. I ordered the enchilada dinner plate and my dad ordered the fajitas. My dad enjoyed his dinner. It came out fresh and hot. On the other hand my cheese was not melted through. The taste was okay. I will not recommend this plate. I did order a rum and coke and it was great. Not watered down. Good place to try out!

I'm from Texas so I love trying Mexican restaurants. The atmosphere was very nice and there was an outdoor patio area as well. There was a Mariachi band the night we were there and what I liked was that they weren't loud, very pleasant. Now for the food- marginal. The salsa did not taste freshly made. It tasted like what you would get from a jar. My husband had fajitas and he had to ask twice for the flour tortillas. His meal was fine but a bit on the sweet side. The retried beans were worse than what you would get from a can. My tacos- how can you go wrong with tacos?- were awful. The waitress asked me if I wanted hard or soft shells. I don't know if she misunderstood me but the shells were a limp brown. There was crumbled beef, some crumbled cheese and a bit of lettuce. No taste and no sauce.

Family Vacation to Florida and we stopped along the way to dine in due to the appetizing drinks however the service was slow, tables were dirty and we normally forgive this kind of service if the food is worth it, it wasn't . No authentic flower tortillas , cheese was stinky , no beans on the nachos. My husband and I ordered beef fajita quesadillas and got ground beef instead. Place was crowed with tables and not to mention 2 toilet restroom with one not flushing with fecal matter. I do have a pretty picture of the Piña Colada which was not strong. I must say I was impressed when all servers, food runners , staff, etc who spoke and sang in Spanish , not bad fr Anglos.

My wife and I stopped in for dinner tonight. This was my first time here. Now, our food was really good, we ordered off the special menu. The only things that keep me from posting 4 stars were the chips were a bit overcooked and the service was a tad on the slow side. There is no doubt that we'll most definitely be back.

Great margaritas, nice salsa, good menu selections. From Texas, so speaking with some experience. Nice seasonal items, fresh seafood. Authentic tex mex in Alabama!

Clean, nice place. The food, served promptly, was full of flavor. Their team are doing a good job and know how to direct them selves to the customer with grace. I will definitely visit again.

The food is good, save for the truly disappointing quesadillas, but our waitress seemed to resent our being there. Didn't smile once, seemed really impatient, and we had to ask for refills and chips/salsa. Since San Miguels took over, I'll just go to the other one from now on. The waitress seems to really dislike her job and needs to find somewhere she'd be happier. I had to go find her to give her the card to pay. She and another waiter were sitting at the bar on their phones.

The first time we are here, it was a very good experience. We sat outside on the patio with our 2 Siberian Husky puppies and had good service and good food. The second time we came here they said the dogs were not allowed on the patio. Not consistent with their policies and we will not be back again.

We had a very good first experience here. I was skeptic because of the reviews but because they allowed our dogs to dine with us in the patio we gave it a shot. They served the chips and salsa as all Mexican restaurants and they were better than average. I ordered the Cream of Poblano pepper soup and it was absolutely delicious!! Husband liked it as well - full of flavor and creamy - served with bread. I also had a small regular margarita that was delcioso!!! I wanted the flavored ones but decided to just go basic and was not sorry!! Husband had shrimp with garlic and he said it was excellent and he would get it again for sure. He cleaned his plate. I should not have ordered the chicken enchiladas because I was too full but I did and it was fine. I can't say more because I was just too full from the margarita and soup. Very comfortable place and relaxing atmosphere. I'm sure we will go back. I wanted to mention the service as there were several negative comments. We had good service although our server was very stoic and wasn't able to converse or interact - he did not smile even once. But he was prompt.

We were traveling through area and decided we wanted Mexican food for dinner. We were disappointed with our meal. The steak in the carne asado was so tough you could have made combat boots out of it. We couldn't even cut it with a knife. Waiter just shrugged his shoulders when we told him. We won't eat there again.

Shouldn't even give this place a star! I had to track down my server to get a margarita and I also had a rock, literally a rock, in my meal! I will not be returning here and will also tell others not to come! Very very disappointed!

I liked the way the place looked and smelled when I walked in with my husband and 2 nieces but that is about it. We waited a minimum of 10 minutes for a server to bring us menus, and probably closer to 20 minutes. The prices were about average. The food was terribly underwhelming. My husband's fajitas tasted liked they were cooked with BBQ sauce. It was very odd. My garden salad had about 1 whole coarsely chopped onion on top. I like onions but really? I did like my flauta and thought it was fairly priced. We had serious problems the whole meal getting our server to come by and had to track him down to pay out. We stopped in around 2pm on a weekday so they were not terribly busy. 2 stars for generally unsatisfying food and terrible service.

This place is okay, it is nothing special though. The owners of Aztecas also own Sam Miguel too, you will see many similarities in the two restaurants. The service is typical to any place in Mobile, it is slow and you will get the feeling that you are doing "them" the favor by having them serve you. Also one thing to note is the drinks are not included with the kids meal, and you will be charged for a refill, this in itself is not a big deal, but when you are charging $2.50 for a kids drink X2 it gets a little much....I will go back because the place is close to were I live, but I would not go out of my way to eat here.

I ordered fajitas. I'm hoping that they gave me the wrong order because an order of fajitas in Texas doesn't come with red sauce all over it. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, the drinks were fine. If you're flying through this neck of the woods, not a bad place and more interesting than most of what's around here.

The only reason this gets four stars instead of five is because the service is inconsistent. I always get the combo "I", it's a bean and rice burrito, onion and cheese quesadilla, and chili con carne. My husband always gets a steak fajita and so does my daughter. My son gets a grilled cheese, the menu says ham and cheese but it's never and issue for them to not add the ham. We also get the cheese dip. The food has never been cold. The margaritas are great!

I almost didn't go because the reviews were not that great but I'm glad that I went. The Burrito Loco was excellent, definitely one of the best that I've had and I eat a ton of Mexican food. The salsa was great too. The waiter wasn't the most attentive as far as checking in with me, but he was quick in getting my food and my drinks. It probably had something to do with how busy it was. He also let me practice my Spanish while I was there and gave me some pointers before I left. I will return if I'm ever in the area again.

Went twice while in the area for a week. Almost didn't go because the reviews were not consistent. So close to our hotel that we decided to give it a try. We found better than average Tex Mex and tasty fresh salsa. I also found the servers friendly and efficient. Nice cozy decor too!

Worst service ever! After being seated we sat there for 15 minutes and were never approached by a waiter. Went to Manager and asked him who our waiter was he actually didn't know! Finally got waited on by a mannerless kid with no personality or social skills, and no apology BTW. As for the food, you would think it would be hard to screw up shrimp fajitas, but they succeeded. They were covered in an icky sugary sauce that tasted like candy...shrimp candy that is. Overall terrible experience, food, and the staff is as dumb as a stump! If nothing else, you should stop by there just to verify that fact alone. Never going back!

We usually go to San Miguel, but decided we should try some other Mexican food spots through out Mobile. I will tell you this much, we won't be back to this location. The food was ordinary and our service was poor. We also felt closed in due to the low, black ceiling and the large number of tables squeezed into small spaces. It didn't help that it was prom or something, and there where kids everywhere. Overall bad experience.

COSTS & TIMES (as of 14 Feb 2008) Lunch served M-Su 11a-3p and ranges from $5.50 to about $8.00 Dinner ranges from $7.25 to $13.25. EXTRA STUFF Happy hour is daily from 4p-6p. Wednesday night is Margarita night. Atmosphere: Not private, but has a trendy Mexican ambiance. We went to Aztecas on Valentine's Day and it was the first time we'd ever been. We had previously passed it many times, always making a note to try it. One thing we thought was a good sign was that the parking lot was always packed. People just don't pack a bad restaurant, and evidently we were right. We arrived fairly early for the dinner hour at about 6:00 p.m. It was already getting busy, as evidently we weren't the only ones trying to beat the rush. To our surprise, we were immediately seated even though they were in fact busy. However we weren't choosey either. I said any table anywhere and we got a decent enough table, but the place was cramped. The table though was clean and without sticky spots; I can't stand that. Our waiter was attentive enough and not bad. It was busy, so I could accept that he was slow for refills. In fact, for as busy as it was, I was impressed at how good his service actually was. I would've expected it to have suffered a bit more. The food was very good. I'm not going to say it's the best Mexican food I've ever had, but it certainly was delicious. The orders arrived quickly and were done properly. I ordered a fajita burrito, and had a choice of steak or chicken. Most places will let you get half and half (sometimes for a charge); but to my surprise they wouldn't. The server had no explanation as to why either. The steak was just a small bit chewy, so I'm not sure I'll get that one again. I also ordered a chile poblano on the side. It was quite spicy, which I liked, but it was a bit too greasy and that says a lot. I love greasy food. This though was a bit much. The ladies bathroom contains closet stalls. Not those cheap metal stalls often found in malls, but the kind that lends complete privacy. Although that is always my preference, what I didn't like is that they only have two stalls and one was just YUCK, so I had to wait for a long time to go. There is nothing that turns me off more than to be faced with someone else's excrement when I'm out to eat. I also hate to have to stand in line. That's to be expected at a bar, but not a restaurant. All in all I will definitely happily go there again. I'm sure the problems were only related to it being Valentine's Day, so it was hectic. Overall Ratings (scale of 1-5 - low to high): Courteous/polite staff. 5 Fresh/tasty food. 4 Correct orders. 5 Speedy food delivery. 5 Availability of wait staff. 4 Cleanliness. 4

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
