I have been here for brunch, lunch several times, and dinner a couple times, and I am very pleased with the entire experience. It is very eclectic, and extremely representative of this artsy, woodsy, touristy area. This restaurant caters to the large artist/eco-activist/local eccentric community that describes this area. You will find rocket scientists (retired from Huntsville and other programs) sitting and talking to the next table of 4th generation-Mentonians, talking with the newest artist to move to the area and join the MAAC (Mentone Area Arts Council). And all will be enjoying Chef Ben's creative and flavorful offerings. The prices may seem a bit high for the area, but the food is well-prepared, consistent, and fresh. Add to this, LC Moon (his wife?), who is an herbologist and Hostess at Wildflower and sells some of her products as well as art items from local artists of all genres, and there is never a dull moment. They do go above and beyond to make the dining experience a good one. They also make it easy to eat there by being open 7 days a week. This is a "don't miss!"

We ate at this restaurant back in July. After reading reviews of this place online, we decided to eat here after a visit to a local cavern. Once we arrived we walked right in, and the host asked us if we had reservations, and we replied "no, we didn't know that you had to have reservations" and he looked at us with shock. It was our first time here, but we were seated anyway.. outside.. which we thought would be more romantic, although others were seated inside, so apparently if you come without reservations they throw you outside.. Our waitress lit a candle for us and took our orders etc as our visit progressed.. We both ordered the "special" for the day, the chicken eggplant parmesan (which I did post a picture of). And a carrot flower ring as an appetizer, which the menu had described very fancy.. just look at my picture for the actual flower of carrots.. very misleading.. anyway.. back to the eggplant.. the food looked delicious once delivered, and one of the staff even came by and told us that it was so much food that no one had finished this particular meal in months.. "Challenge accepted" I said.. and after eating a good bit of it I realized why no one could finish the eggplant parm.. It was horrible. As for desserts we ordered a peanut butter pie and a order of crepes. Now these on the other hand are the only reason this restaurant is getting a two star rating, and in my own opinion is the only reason that you should come here.. They were heavenly. My Experience in a nutshell.. Negatives: Outside = many mosquitoes and other flying insects (no netting or protection around you). Horrible, overpriced main course. Misleading descriptions on the menu. Cost Was near $80.00 before tip for 2 chicken eggplant parms (on special), a water, a diet drink and two desserts. Positives: Dessert. (Mainly the peanut butter pie).

I had the grilled buffalo ranch chicken wrap with kettle chips. It was probably the best wrap I've ever had. The atmosphere and decoration is not something you would typically see in your standard over-commercialized restaurants in the city. This is something different (in a good way). They had live music going when we went for lunch. Almost everyone in the restaurant was singing along. I would go back. If you are anywhere near the town of Mentone you should try this restaurant.

Such a great atmosphere to eat in. Love the hamburger steak and smothered chicken. Best thing on the menu would have to be the tomatoes pie and the bread with cheese dip. Carrot cake is such a great dessert. Don't forget to bring your own wine. Great place to wine and dine your wife.

This place is absolutely charming. Great atmosphere and an eclectic experience that is shabby chic. You'll find people in their Sunday best sitting next to kids in jeans and sandals. Upscale but laid back. They have vegetarian options as well as steaks. The gluten free dessert is good! Check out Moon's wildflower ointments. If you are lucky, you'll get to hear her sing with Tony Goggans. I've seen a wedding reception party there, so I guess they host stuff like that too.

We stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon as we passed through North Alabama. We were drawn here by the restaurant's listing in the "100 Alabama Foods to Try" (I think it's called) brochure we picked up at an Alabama rest stop. When we walked in, we were seated fairly promptly even though they were busy, and I loved both the darling, funky atmosphere and the menu (which was full of sandwiches, wraps, desserts that just looked awesome). Our drink and food orders were taken promptly, but then the wait began. Honestly, we must have waited nearly an HOUR for two wraps/chips plates, a TINY, TINY plate of the "famous" tomato pie (which I think must have been slapped on the plate and heated in the microwave), and a piece of carrot cake. Despite signage at the front that said "we cook our food; it takes time" (or something to that effect), we thought this was an outrageous amount of time to wait for this amount of simple-to-fix food. Since we were passing through town on the way back to NC, this was especially inconvenient and threw off our whole travel schedule pretty badly. Add this to the fact that our server was not much in evidence during all this waiting--and never came by to update us or otherwise acknowledge that she knew it was taking a long time--and we were really quite dissatisfied. We probably should have complained on the way out, but contrary to our usual practice, we didn't--I think partly because we wanted so much to like the place. I did short the tip. Other comments: the menu listing for the "medium" tomato pie I thought I was ordering did not make it clear that this was some "appetizer" portion -- it was truly shockingly small, and I thought the server might have alerted me to that when I ordered it. The desserts--carrot cake and "hummingbird cake" (banana/pineapple/cream cheese icing)--were really great!

I love this place. The polenta shrimp and grits are unbelievable! I've never had anything like them.

This cafe is amazing! The food was wonderful, especially the tomato pie, and the staff was extremely helpful! They made my trip to Alabama outstanding!

We were very pleased to stumble on the wildflower cafe. The menu has interesting options...something for every taste. There was live music which added to the experience. Save room for the dessert. The hummingbird cake is fabulous. We spent some time visiting with the owner who is very pleasant. We would certainly go back and recommend it to friends.

We stopped in for a snack after an afternoon kayaking on the river. We tasted the tomato pie as our salty, but mostly we ordered desserts to share for the table: Derby pie, Peanut butter, and Sweet bread pudding. The peanut butter was oh so good and rich just like last time :) We were pleasantly surprised by the sweet bread pudding! What a tasty and unique dessert!! Mmmmmmmm

Excellent! Had the appetizer size tomato pie and the shrimp polenta. Chocolate flour less cake for dessert. All are outstanding. BYOB.

This was a charming and delicious stop between Atlanta and Huntsville. In our ever continuing quest for great food we try to avoid chains, and a weekend eating in Atlanta left us wanting something better and lighter than Hardees or Burger King. We had every intention of having salad, but the menu had so many more delicious options. We ordered the small spinach quiche for an appetizer because the restaurant has a warm glow about it that leads you to believe that they are fully capable of making delicious food and, as I said, we were pretty full. When it came to the final bite we each got as much as we could and lamented not ordering the large portion. We were almost positive we had ordered wrong by not getting the quiche meal, but based on the appetizer we were fully confident in the chef's abilities and stuck with the daily special. For those who don't know about Conecuh sausage, by all means, please research it. And by research, of course I mean "try". It's perhaps the best sausage of all time, and they had a slider of Conecuh sausage with stir fried onions and green peppers. I was so glad when my wife asked what type of sausage it was and she said "something that starts with K or C" and then identified it when I said Conecuh. It was further confirmation that this was a great place for food. We actually ordered one sausage and one shrimp slider meal. The shrimp were okay. I like shrimp, but I tend to prefer them closer to their point of origin both for freshness and for skill of preparation. Compared to processed parts of pig with a tasty blend of spices, the bottom feeding crustacean had a pretty tough fight for best slider to begin with, but it did definitely put up a good fight. The pickles that came with it were actually pretty good. I don't normally eat pickles. In fact, I can't recall a single time I've purposefully bitten into one, but this was pretty good for the bite I had. My wife assured me it balanced out the sliders quite well as she ate some of mine. The chips that came with the meal were good, but nothing about which to rave. I'm not sure if they were store-bought or made in-house, but either way not the talk of the meal. We wanted to try the crepes, really, we did. Sadly, a weekend of good eating prevented us from trying them, but the one I saw on a neighbor's plate looked amazing. We're re-routing an upcoming trip to north Georgia to go through Mentone with my grandmother-in-law soon so she can experience the food. I'm not sure how a non-English-speaking Korean grandmother will find the experience, but needless to say I may have an update in a month or so. The ambiance was quaint and entertaining. There was indeed lots of merchandise for sale, mostly of the artsy sort. There was also an older man playing guitar, which added a whole different dimension of charm, apart from his often unanswered insistence that we all sing along. He was nice, though, and definitely had a good selection of songs that fit the atmosphere. This is definitely worth the stop if you have the time while passing through!

Mentone is a special place; it's Alabama's Sedona. And Wildflower Cafe is the perfect summation of everything that Mentone is. There's a selection of arts & crafts as you walk in. The atmosphere is very southern bohemian. This is the restaurant for the health nut who actually likes to eat! The broccoli cheddar soup is the best I've ever had, and we have a family recipe for it. Hubby had the crepes for dessert; they were excellent. There's live music sometimes. Request a duet of Cash's "Jackson" and you'll get a treat. And the smoothies were made from real strawberries!

The place has a nice ambiance but it gets old fast. I saw a Greek Salad on the menu which really sounded good, even said had kalamata Olives which is a must for Greek Salads. The salad tasted ok, but was full of tasteless black olives, not even one kalamata which irritated me. In addition, on the menu it stated that all large salads come with bread, when I asked about my bread the waitress said it would cost 1$ extra. LOL. The only thing that was really good there were the sweet potato rolls yummo! But they didn't make them there, they are purchased frozen, but really good! I found this place over priced for what you get, do yourself a favor and drive 15 miles down to Fort Payne as you have several choice restaurants there.

How great is this place? Wish I was in Mentone more often! I'm in love with all things Mentone. I love the people, the fun shops, the beautiful surroundings, just about everything. Okay, well, maybe everything. And this restaurant sums up everything about Mentone that makes it so great--the food was yummy, the service outstanding, and the atmosphere is unique and relaxing. I had the Wildflower brunch/lunch sampler... it came with steak, tomato pie, ham & cheese quiche, fresh fruit, smashed potatoes, roasted veggies and a strawberry crepe. Quite a mixture. But quite delicious. My boyfriend had the shaved prime rib and loved every bit of it. And please, oh please, get the Derby Pie....fantastic. It was obvious that everything was homemade and that the chef actually cared about what he was doing. We completed our meal with two cups of coffee to-go (to enjoy as we walked around downtown Mentone), which was their own organic roast, and incredibly good. The service was fantastic as well... all of the employees were so personal and genuinely interested in how you were doing. They seemed to enjoy their job and happy to be at work. Why can't all people be like this?!? Keep up the good work! Please go here, you'll love it.

We had a fun lunch at the Wildflower Cafe on a rainy January day. Service was friendly, warm and unrushed. From the moment we walked in, we felt very welcome. The food was good, the music entertaining, the atmosphere charming, and the prices were good. We especially enjoyed the sweet potato biscuits. We look forward to returning in the future.

Ehh. Baked chicken fingers & chips with a dill pickle spear.....$8? The large quiche was a 3x3 square & dry...$7. I'll pass next time. Going to Moonlight Bistro from now on. Decided to try this place across from Moonlight where we usually go and regretted that decision. They had no options for sides whatsoever! Chips & a pickle usually come with a sandwich, but chicken fingers? They need more food. It's a good thing we weren't very hungry when we went in this hole. Everything was priced too high for what you get.

Had a great meal here with a group of friends. Generous portions, fresh food with great flavors. I split the tomato pie with a side salad and butternut squash - very yummy! Peanut butter pie is excellent. We had great service and the owner was very friendly! Cute place with local art and music. Suggest you change your yelp category to a restaurant.

I want to love this place, I really do. I went to summer camp on the mountain for a number of years, and this was a go-to weekend lunch spot for counselors and families picking up their kids. Everyone remembers the charming, folky atmosphere, with some local crafts and goods for sale in the front. The food itself is pretty good, especially their famous sweet potato biscuits. I went here over the weekend one last time, and was reminded of all the things I didn't like about it, however. Their kitchen is so slow. Normally I would say the service is slow, but waiters are average to attentive, but food always takes FOREVER. Lastly, there was live music this time--a man walking around the restaurant with a guitar, serenading unsuspecting tables. It's one of those things that's kind of funny, if you're in the mood for it, but everyone would live without it.

I always enjoy coming here. I really like the decor...I think the old school bus seats may be my favorite part. I started with a salad. Very good, a little small. Turns out that the salad being on the small size was a good thing as the Prime Rib was massive. Oh that Prime Rib...cooked to perfection...tender...juicy...amazing outer crust. You will find an occasional clove of garlic or sprig of rosemary when cuttting into this masterpiece. I can't recall the sides. I think green beans were the special that night? Obviously the star of the show was that PR! The Derby Pie put the whole meal over the top. The only negative I have about this place is the roaming guitar player. A lot of people really seemed to enjoy him, so I can't drop this review to 4 stars. I wish there was a room that he didn't go into as I find that he distracts from good conversation.... and it's just awkward to me.

It was love at first sight/bite for us here. The staff were incredibly nice and every dish we got from the sweet potato biscuits, tomato pie, to the hummingbird cake was shockingly delicious. We didn't expect it to be as good as it was. We'll definitely become regulars here even if it is a 40 mile round trip for us. I can't wait to go back very soon!

Very eclectic and charming restaurant! The shrimp and grits were the best we'd ever had. Servers were friendly. Everything we had was excellent! If you want alcohol bring your own since it's a dry county. Saw plenty of folks bringing their own wine. Also best to call ahead for a reservation.

I loved the atmosphere at this place! We sat outside under their tent for lunch. I had the black and blue burger which was fantastic! The atmosphere in the cafe is eclectic. This place had the biggest crowd in Mentone by far. Everyone at our table loved their food.
