The banner on the building reads "best bbq in the south". Don't believe it. The chicken had a lemon/sour taste and the ribs were lacking in flavor. The fried okra was straight from a bag. I used the drive thru and the cashier was very friendly but the food is not worth the price.

Decent BBQ. Very much like Dickey's BBQ (a BBQ chain in Texas) but doesn't disappoint the taste buds.

Food is nothing special...sat at the bar once for 15 minutes before anyone asked what I would like, then I said nothing, and walked out......the previous time I was there (2 years ago) I remember them being very, very pricey...c'mon folks, its BBQ.

My family and I ate lunch there two Saturdays ago. The food was terrific (pulled pork, chicken, potato salad, etc.). However, the service was not good. The hostess and waitress were pleasant and our order was correct, but the whole ordeal was just painfully slow. Slow to come take our drink order, slow to come back and take our food order, VERY slow to actually get our food, slow to follow-up with refills, and slow to bring us our ticket, even though we asked for it early after seeing the difficulty the other patrons around us were having with the same issues. We would've had dessert had we not seen the table next to us wait 15 or more minutes for their piece of pie. They were not that busy and they seemed adequately staffed. I don't know what the problem was, and I still haven't figured out why they wear those headsets. But because the food was so good and the prices weren't bad, we'll give them one more chance.

I had the choose 2 plate, and had chosen the ribs and beef brisket. The ribs were pretty good, large pieces of ribs. The brisket though was a little on the dry side. My 2 sides were bbq beans and the mac & cheese. My friend had the pulled pork, which was actually better than any of my choices. We started off with fried pickles, which were actually quite tasty. 6 were enough for the 3 of us. The sides weren't all that great. The fried tomatoes were pretty good. A nice casual place for dinner. Friendly and efficient service. We got there around 6pm, and the place filled up pretty quick.

Terrible. Pulled pork plate, meat was cold and not very flavorful. Service was ok, just a disappointing meal of food. Won't be coming back here.

Well, I've eaten here twice this week, so I think its pretty good. Service was great, I realize that can vary between visits so I base my reviews mainly on the food. For lunch you get a reasonable amount for a fair price with a quick turn around if your working. I've only had the pork sandwich and fry's, but so far I'm satisfied...

Nikki was the fastest, sweetest server I've had there. Lunch specials were huge and inexpensive. Not crowded, near work. Out in 4o minutes. Highly recommend

Thought I would give it a chance even with the bad reviews. Unfortunately my Ribs were dry And overcooked, my fried okra was the cheap stuff from a bag, and My coleslaw well.... not going back not impressed. At least it's food albeit not good food

Not sure what happened with this Golden Rule. This used to be a regular Sunday afternoon choice, but something changed in the past year or so and the quality has suffered. Tried twice in the past year and won't be returning. Better BBQ elsewhere. Hope they go back to the way they were a couple of years ago.

Interesting reading the not-so-good reviews. I went to Chuckwagon at 11:04 today and the line was already 50-people deep and out the back door into the partking lot. I was already craving brisket, and thought I'd give this place a try for the first time. The parking lot was packed, so I took that as a good sign; plus, they have a convenient (and quick) drive through. I ordered the regular brisket and 2 sides plate. With tax it was just over $9.00. I opened the styrofoam container and was disappointed at the presentation. Slices of meat, 2 little containers with lids for sauce, and 2 bigger containers with lids for sides. I like a good first impression, which would have been to open it up and see everything, making my mouth water (haha)! The brisket was OK, but nothing great. I liked it, but wouldn't order it again. What I loved were the sides. Previous reviews of the sides were terrible, which surprised me. The baked beans were loaded with pulled pork and were some of the best I'd ever had. Super homemade flavor and fresh and piping hot. The collard greens were also incredibly delicious, jammed packed into the container so I could get as much as possible, very flavorful, and piping hot. I will definately be back for the sides and to try the pulled pork. I'm withholding the 5-stars because the brisket can be improved, and the presentation as well. Also, the plate really felt like it was missing something... a roll or piece of bread. That would've made the meal complete.

I am new to Huntsville. Someone compared this restaurant to Dickies BBQ, a franchise I am very familiar with. My wife and I decided to give it a try. Oh my God! If it were possible to give this restaurant negative stars I would rate it -20. Without a doubt this is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in (and that is saying a lot). There were about 6 customers in the restaurant and we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. There was no one watching the store! Once we were seated in a small booth by the toilets, we quickly ordered our drinks. The waiter brought my drink out right away but forgot my wife's water. 10 minutes after we reminded her about the water, she brought it out. It took another 10 minutes to get a straw. While my wife waited for her drink, two new victims arrived. They were promptly seated and had their drinks within a minute. My wife ordered chili and I ordered the bbq plate with pulled pork, brisket, and smoked sausage. Then came the real wait. 30 minutes later, the two new victims received their food. After giving the waitress a forlorn state she said our food would be right out. At this point, she must have gone into the back and found our food. The food was horrible. My wife's chili was Hormel right out of the can. It wasn't even warm enough to melt the cheese on top. The pork was VERY dry and had no taste. The sausage was un impressive and the brisket has not been anywhere near a grill or smoker. All of the food was cold. The greens had sugar in them. I didn't try the coleslaw. When the waitress asked is how it tasted I asked for the check and left. The manager was very apologetic for the service and offered to not charge us, but having drank a few drinks I insisted on paying. We cut our losses and went to Krystal where we had a scrumptious meal with good service.

It's not the best BBQ in the area by a long shot, but - it's close to the house to pick up take-out...ate there once as sit down meal, service ain't all that - so take out it is...convenient, ok prices

Came into this restaurant and noticed it was really hot and somewhat smokey inside. They had portable air conditioning units out due to a central air problem obviously. At least they had some portable units or it would have been unbearable hot. Like a sauna in here. "No mas pantalones". For starters they were out of fried green tomatoes. We had ribs and brisket. While my ribs were ok they were nothing special and were not dry but they were right on the line. The brisket had a layer of fat on one side and was patchy and a bit fatty all the way through. They really need to assess their cuts for the brisket. The mashed potatoes were comparable to KFC. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. The facility appeared clean. They have room for improvement for sure. I hope the owners see these ratings and reviews and get on needed improvements as I'm sure some of these food quality issues are already costing them money.

Sorry to say we won't be back. Had to go here because the wife bought a Groupon for this place. The food wasn't bad and the service wasn't real bad, but there wasn't anything that really stood out enough to make it a great place. I ordered the combination appetizer (onion rings, green fried tomatoes, fried pickle spears), not bad. And the "Pick 3" for the main course (brisket, ribs, dark chicken quarter). The ribs (three ribs) are the small baby back type ribs. the brisket reminded me of pot roast (fortunately I like pot roast), chicken was chicken. The worse part was the food they served wasn't hot. The servers seemed to have problems keeping up with their tables too.

This brisket was very, dry and bland and the baked beans were terrible! I threw them away. I don't know how this place is still in business.

Not the best BBQ in town....actually it's one of the worst in the Huntsville/Madison area. Plenty of other places to choose from nearby.

Eating at Golden Rule was the worst dining experience my husband and I ever had. We will not ever go back. .We ordered fried green tomatoes as an appetizer and I ordered the loaded bbq pork baked potatoe with a side of fried okra. The pork tasted very old and dry...it had a moth ball smell...the French fries, okra and fried green tomatoes all came out very dark brown and greasy as if they were fried in oil that was 2 weeks old. Disgusting. My son had a kids meal which he didn't touch and the waitress didn't even give him the cookies and drink that were supposed to come with it. Not worth the money and we had ask for refills on our drinks as well as wait a very long time to get our bill.
