Went here tonight to take my parents out to dinner - they were not Japanese food enthusiasts but enjoy Chinese - since Sakura was new and in a very small town, I figured they would have a Japanese focus, but offer traditional Chinese such as Lo-Mein, big dishes of noodles/chicken/beef/etc. Instead, upon sitting down and looking at the menu, we find out it's almost ALL Japanese. Basically, my parents were stuck ordering what sounded most familiar to them because the menus had no pictures and the descriptions were misleading. Then, our Jasper-native waitress came to take orders and she didn't know how to describe the difference between steamed or fried dumplings or how many/what kind of rolls came with a sushi dinner. She was useless. Oh, and even though I ordered 2 appetizers for the table along with 3 dinners, only the soup arrived when it should. The first appetizer appeared the same time as MY main dinner and the second appetizer still wasn't around when my parents' dinners arrived ~10-15 minutes later. I ended up canceling the dumplings after the now 20+ minute delay. By that point I was totally unhappy and was tempted to not leave a tip at all. I mean, MY dinner was served over 10 minutes before the other two dinners - WTF? And my parents' dinners had 4 California rolls with them and the dinner listing said NOTHING about that. They are not Japanese food people and basically I paid $45 after tip for ~13 california/sushi rolls and 2 mounds of brown rice that my parents picked at because there was nothing decent for them to eat (and no waitress/waiter available to assist in decision making). Oh, and despite Japanese meals being small in size compared to normal American food dishes, it was no shocker to see nearby people leaving half-finished plates of food. The food was simply not worth the price and the experience was flat-out lousy. BTW - The floor is slippery too and has almost no texture - be careful - someone will eventually fall. I will NEVER come back here and I urge the rest of Jasper people to just go elsewhere in town where Asian cuisine is not only cheaper, but more satisfying for a family.

I had the chicken & beef tip hibachi dinner & I was pleasantly suprised. The food was fresh, hot & a big portion size, I had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. Our server was very friendly and stayed on top of things. I ordered the fried cheesecake for dessert which I recommend The bathrooms were clean, overall I had a great experience! The only thing I would change would be the house salad it's just lettuce and small slivers of carrots.

UPDATE I PROBABY SHOULD HAVE REPORTED THIS TO PUBLIC HEALTH A LONG TIME AGO.. BUT I DIDN'T.. AND I THINK SAKURA IS STILL HERE...SO READ THIS REVIEW AS IT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE. I was pretty desperate for some sushi one night and too lazy to make my own (which is way better) so I got the pink lady roll. The soy paper on the outside was rancid. How do I know it was rancid? Well people, I will eat anything under the sun, and though I hadn't had soy paper in a while, I remember the last time I had it it was quite enjoyable and didn't make me feel like barfing. Well one bite of this and I knew something was wrong. I swallowed it (don't know why) and gagged and had to ask to return it. They were nice enough to do it for me so I just switched it out for a spicy tuna roll, which is also what my husband got. Food poisoning struck a few hours later and I spent a good portion of the night by the toilette. I'm sure that rancid soy paper made me sick and not the fish since my husband was fine. But all that to say...please just don't go here.

Sushi is really good and fresh but the hibachi is not that good. The hibachi taste like dish detergent to me. Service is pretty good. This place could be better.

The chef shows great potential; the egg roll could have been amazing and was fried to perfection. The hibachi steak and veggies were pretty good; the chicken was a little sweet. The sushi was decent, tho the imitation crab stuff was blah. The fried rice was bland; literally rice with onions and soy sauce. The salad came undressed, and the yum yum was not what most would expect, and the ginger dressing tasted oily and was a goldenrod color. I dearly want this place to rock but the food didn't back it up. The server was sweet; overworked (a party of 30 was there!) but she followed up with us and we were taken care of.
