Much better than I expected for a gas station sea food restaurant. Not a five star restaurant per say, but certainly 2 stars better than I expected Service is fast and very friendly, and price of a sandwich and drink is reasonable. I ordered the shrimp po-boy, which came with 6 large and fresh shrimp. Cocktail sauce was a little sweet for my taste, but there were a variety of hot sauces available. The sea food counter has a variety of fresh foods by the pound, including crawfish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, snapper, salmon, grouper, frogs legs, and alligator tail.

On our way from Atlanta to Little Rock, we decided to stop at this little joint so I could add it to my "Restaurants Next to Gas Stations" list. While it's actually *in* the gas station, they're in the process of framing out a wall and a door between the two, so I think it totally counts as "next to." We decided to go for the po' boys, and I'd say it was a pretty decent sandwich. Nothing out of this world, but I've definitely had worse. I got the fish and Mike got the shrimp. The tartar sauce is homemade (plus!); The bread is very fresh (plus!); The fish and the shrimp were nice and hot (plus!). They also have a fresh fish counter if you want to take something home. If I had to do it all again, I probably would have chosen a fried fish or shrimp plate (They also have gator if you're so inclined). All-in-all, not a bad place to stop for a bite to eat.

The seafood here is beyond amazing and super fresh! My favorite is a toss up between the shrimp dinner and the fish & shrimp combo and their hushpuppies are the best I've ever had. We always order 2-3 extra orders of hush when we go. Each order has 4 hushpuppies in it. The price for seafood here is unbeatable especially for the quality. And the owners (all family owned and operated) are the nicest people you'll meet. On top of eating at the restaurant you can also purchase fresh seafood to take home and cook. They have a wide variety to choose from: sushi grade tuna, frog legs, catfish, gator meat, grouper, snapper, oysters, crab, clams, mussels, tuna steaks, sword fish, and crawfish. All available upon season. I would recommend this amazing restaurant to everyone I meet, you can even call in your order for pick up! How awesome is that!?!

What can I say? Excellent seafood - and I mean excellent - found in a restaurant attached to a gas station off of Highway 78 in Alabama? Yes - oh yes! The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the service/ambiance were not great - it was friendly enough, but only one person working the tables and the register, and I think only one cook, so it took a good while to get our food - then again it was Sunday lunch time in Alabama. But that Japanese guy can freakin cook. The ginger salad dressing was perfectly homemade, the crab claws were huge and fried to a light perfection, and the hushpuppies and tarter were above average too. The gumbo was different, not bad, but definitely included some spices that are not common to southern gumbo and I would not likely get it again. I wasn't brave enough to try the sushi at a dive like that, but next time I will because I trust that that guy is doing it right. They also have good prices on fresh seafood to take home and cook. I think this is gonna be one of my favorite spots. The pics of the menu are now outdated so I'll try to post the new one next time I go. RW & LS

We stopped here based on the two previous reviews. We're glad we did! The food is very reasonably priced and the young lady behind the counter was friendly and efficient. The catfish and shrimp were excellent (that is all we ordered), and the hush puppies were very tasty. As you might expect, most everything on the menu was fried. But, they are not overly greasy and the seafood is fresh (the seafood comes in every other day). It is located in the same building as a gas station/mini-mart, but don't let that stop you from taking a short detour off I-22.

Surprised, for sure! This place offers a great selection of sushi as well as fried seafood. The sushi was a pleasant surprise. Expertly crafted with extremely fresh fish. I highly recommend trying this place out if you are in the area. They also have seafood by the pound which appeared to be of very high quality.

*review for the sushi* So I won't toot my horn as a sushi conosseur, but I've eaten at a lot of sushi places from Boston to California. I'm not really a sushi snob either because I'll pretty much enjoy all kinds of sushi, from the grocery store to one of the best sushi bars in San Francisco. This sushi was enjoyable and edible. The fish is as fresh tasting as the fish you'd get at Surin or Stix in Birmingham. I thought the rice was too overcooked and a little too sweet. None of the fish was fishy tasting and I didn't get food poisoning after. On my sliding scale of sushi from 1 to 10 ( 1 being fishy and inedible and subjects you to food poisoning and 10 being a top rated sushi bar in CA .. unfortunately I've never had anything like Jiro's $300 sushi meal in Japan so I can't compare it to THAT... this place gets a solid 4. It's a step above publix sushi (3) because it's just fresher than something that's been sitting in the fridge all day. I would come again to get my sushi fix, simply because there is nothing else in town, and the prices are good, but going to Jinsei in Bham on a Sunday night for $9 rolls over this place is tremendously worth the time of you have it :) I gave this place an extra star because the service was pretty good and it's pretty clean for being in a gas station!!

I've been eating at bayou seafood for many years and while it has always been good to me. I can honestly say it just keeps getting better and better. They easily have some of the best seafood I have tasted in central alabama and while the location may turn you off. The food will completely change your mind

Legit enough that I grabbed some sushi to-go after I ate lunch there. Everything I had was good. Pretty authentic-looking sushi chef who does a good job. All the fish is right there in front of you in metal pans, held in the glass cooler. Nothing fancy - what you see is what you get. For you people docking stars for "ambience" and such - GMAFB. Stop being a jackass. It's a seafood joint in a rundown gas station in rural Alabama: ALL THINGS YOU KNEW BEFORE YOU SET FOOT IN THE PLACE. The people are nice and the food is good. Go eat and leave them a nice tip. Seriously, a few bucks won't kill you. And stop reviewing like you're some NYT food critic at a Michelin-rated popular-chef-du-jour location (hint: you're not). Maybe try to levy expectations with your cognitive capacity to use context/visual/circumstantial clues? Just a tip for a happier life.

We ended up in Jasper, AL, on our drive to Memphis. Read reviews on Yelp for this place and decided to try. GLAD we did! Service is a little shaky but the food was incredible!!! Fried shrimp, fried oyster, popcorn shrimp, fries and hush puppies were all perfection. The location might be a little strange but they are cooking up some good stuff.

I Love the Fried Sea Scallops. They melt in your mouth. If Your looking for a seafood market, for cooking at home, they have the freshest fish and shell fish any where in Alabama. I highly recommend this Place.
