I eat here often. They service is usually pretty good. I had trouble using a groupon once. I love the manager! He will tell you, "it's coming," and he is right! Awesome chile relleno! Great guac! Crushed ice! My favorite! Quick order to table time. They now have CORONARITAS OR MARGARONAS

Wow was this place disappointing. Service was not bad but HORRIBLE. Their Margaritas I believe have almost no tequila. Order beer do not get watered down margarita.

I have an unhealthy love of Mexican food. Yes. Even. Americanized. Mexican. Food. And that's what you'll find here. They just aren't particularly good at making it. I'll start with the quesqdillas. If you want cheese in it you better request it. I've ordered veggie, steak and chicken quesadillas that have arrived without cheese in them. Odd, but okay, I've resorted to ordering them with cheese. This is where the fail happens folks. I requested cheese on my steak quesadilla on the upside there was shredded cheese on it. The downside? It was still cold and was obviously added after the quesadilla was cooked. I give them another shot because it's literally close enough for me to walk to. I tried a veggie combo with a spinach quesadilla. I was sure to request cheese because the first one I ordered didn't have any cheese in it. The upside, my spinach quesadilla did, in fact, have cheese on it. The downside? It was lukewarm ladled cheese dip. Sigh. I. Quit. Even. Trying. If you do go the enchiladas verdes is usually pretty good. You can get any combo of chicken or cheese quesadillas. It doesn't help that the last time I came the restaurant had exactly one table in it. The host was on the phone and he told me to hold on. It was almost 10 minutes and I still wasn't seated. I finally seated myself at the bar and my waitress/bartender told me she would be back. She was obviously a liar because I had to ask a woman who was obviously doing side work to relay my requests to her because she disappeared for 15 minutes at a time without acknowledging me when I attempted to order.

My dad and I go here all the time for lunch. The chips and salsa are usually great -bottomless warm tortillas and fresh salsa. I love the crispy beef taco lunch plates. Their grilled steak torta sandwiches are also mucho delish. If you're a gringo who has never heard of or enjoyed a "torta", you better rectify that situation and take your mouth to flavor town. Sometimes the language barrier can cause problems when ordering, so make sure to be clear, concise, and little patient with the waitstaff. If something isn't right they will take care of you. If you order water you can eat well for less than $10 at lunch.

I compare every Mexican restaurant to the ones I have frequented in Arizona and I must say they have some damn good food that will give any Mexican restaurant in AZ a run for their money. Very flavorful the only way to pack that much flavor in their meats is to let it marinate over night. The chimichangas? Honey? You will stuff your face. I will come only during lunch on weekends because we try to go back to work during the week days and we can't focus because we ate way too much. Great food.

I've been both for lunch and dinner, and I really like this place! Do they serve the best Mexican ever, no. Is the food good, absolutely yes. Why 5 stars? ...because the people here make their best to be gentle, nice, fun, and greeting. The atmosphere is just great, and they serve good drinks and lunch time service is fast and well-priced. Definitively a place to go when you look for something easy and chill. Nice discovery thanks to yelp!

Since moving to this side of town, a must have is a go-to Mexican Restaurant. Well Hacienda put their hat in the ring, and is in high contention. First off, the ambiance is great. The tables are cool. The lighting is unique. They have a projection screen to watch some awesome sports. Overall top notch. We have been a few times and the food is really good. I got the Special Combo (steak taco and chicken quesadilla) and it was right on bar with some of the best of Bham. The last time we went I got the street tacos. They are also quite good. But one issue I have is that they have 5 options of street tacos. But every time I have gone, they only have two of the options. Don't you tempt me with beef cheeks and never have it available! I don't know if that is just the timing of when I go, or if it is permanent. But until I get to try it, it takes away some star power. We also had a little trouble with service last time. It took forever to get drinks. And when we asked to divide the checks, it didn't come across that it would be the easiest task. Then took FOREVER to get to the table. Our service other times was outstanding. So I will assume this was the exception, not the rule.

Don't let the strip mall location fool you - this is the real deal for "cheap" Mexican. This is my go-to place whenever driving through Birmingham. Nothing fancy, just warm chips, fresh salsa (and by fresh I mean so tasty I don't even order cheese dip), cold drinks & delicious Mexican fare. The decor is a little eccentric, but that's what gives this place it's charm. I always get the chicken enchiladas verdes and they are perfect. The sauce on top is thin, but you taste the tangy tomatillas and it has a little kick of heat! The boyfriend usually gets a chicken burrito, and although I've never tried it (because my enchiladas are so good), he always seems pretty happy with his choice.

I couldn't find any reason to give Hacienda less than 5 stars. Believe me, I went down the list. Every employee I've ever encountered with has been over the top friendly. The food is very fairly priced and on the high end of the taste scale. Beyond those important things, they frequently have a fantastic mariachi band that's fun, but not too invasive. They've also added wooden rocking horses of various sizes. These make for great photo opps for the kiddos and the grown ups. Even though I don't live near Hacienda any longer, it has always been one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. It's Far out, but worth the drive.

This place has been so amazing. The customer service was nothing short of excellent. We had to get some of our party to a flight and we had a very short window of time to eat. I told this to the person who seated us, and they got us in and out and in our cars in 30 minutes. The food was great, and they were so very attentive. They also didn't make us feel like we were a hassle to have such a tight schedule. I advise this to absolutely anyone (even if you're not in a hurry).

The pork tamale and guacamole salad are wonderful! The chicken chili rellano is excellent - I ordered them al a carte (no rice and beans) and had a lot left over - best Mexican food I have had in a long time - everything was fresh and bright tasting with distinct flavored - recommend with 5 stars! BTW went to Rick Bayless' place in Chicago 2 days later - Hacienda is MUCH better, go figure!

There are three mexican restaurants in this immediate area (at least), and this is my favorite. Nice people, good atmosphere (they put a lot into the decor), and delicious foods. There are vegetarian options, as well.

My husband and I love this place. The atmosphere is fantastic and their decoration is just INSANE! The chips and salsa at this place is to die for. I mean your mouth will water just thinking about it (after you taste it, of course). Great ambiance and the service is great too. If you are on the fence about trying out this place, you should DO IT. It's great!

I have only been once, but the food was good. I ordered the chicken chimichanga. It was fried perfectly and the chicken was still moist. They have some sort of orange juice based margaritas. They are delicious but not very strong. The service was fine. One thing that slightly bothered me was the amount of clutter and dust accumulated on the fixtures. I just kept thinking to myself that Robert Irvine (restaurant impossible star) would be so mad.

The server was really nice, and my wife loved all the horse art. That was about the best part of Hacienda Mexican Grill. Having lived in Atlanta for the last 10 or so years has really spoiled me on quality authentic Mexican food. Looking at the reviews we were hoping to come in and have a nice meal, and we did - just nice. The chips were thin and somewhat tasteless, which is sufficient to go with the watery salsa. The salsa had decent taste and flavor, but nothing to write home about. I went for the Enchilades Verdes with chicken, and it was so-so. The verde sauce left much to be desired and felt like it could have been straight out of a supermarket can. The chicken was a bit on the dry side and, too, was lacking flavor. My wife had the chicken fajitas plate, and there finally was some flavor in that, but only in the overcooked and oily veggies. The chicken itself was on the tasteless and dry side. The guacamole that comes with the fajitas was perhaps a tablespoon and a half and was the typical "cheap" avocado-that-seems-like-it-went-in-a-blender stuff. More on the side of real than liquid, but still nowhere near "real" guacamole. The rice accompanying the fajitas was actually pretty good, but that's really not the focus of the meal. For the quality and quantity, the prices are very reasonable. But I would rather get a little less great tasting food than a whole heaping pile of cheap mediocre food. Next time I find myself in the Birmingham area for Barber Motorsports Park, I will probably make another selection. This is "great" Mexican if your only comparison is Chili's. But I am sure there are more authentic places around.

First things first, the food wasn't terrible, but it wasn't real Mexican food. Growing up in a predominantly Mexican neighborhood in Miami, I know what real Mexican food is. I got the carne asada platter which came with grilled steak, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, rice, lettuce, and tortillas. The steak was alright, but it wasn't the best cut of meat. Everything else was either prepackaged or reheated. The beans tasted like they came out of a can and my rice was definitely left over and reheated. The guac was watery and tasteless. What really shocked me was that they didn't have fresh tortillas, they used packaged reheated ones. All in all, the food was edible, but I wouldn't return. The only reason I'm giving them three stars was because the prices were reasonable and the service was great.

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant. The salsa is perfect, fresh ingredients without too much heat. I have never had anything here that wasn't good. They do some kind of Mexican voodoo on the grilled chicken. Fantastic. P.S. the staff and service are wonderful as well.

I hope more people come experience authentic Mexican food at this spot. This is on par with great tastes I've had in California and given that high bar, the steak taco combo I got came through. The only down side I can say is that they give so much food I couldn't eat it all. Sadly too. So for this area to have this high quality of a spot with friendly service and a clean fun atmosphere, 5 stars all the way around.

Stayed at a local hotel over the weekend and used Yelp to find a good place to eat. I definitely was not disappointed! My daughter will get chicken fingers if they served them at a 5 star restaurant if she could, but in my opinion when you goto a Mexican restaurant get Mexican, anyway. She said that her chicken fingers were "outstanding"! I had a veggie dish. My wife and son had enchiladas and burritos. They said that they were great! I loved the decor and cleanliness of the place the service was good and the server and hostess were very nice as well. If I'm ever in the area again I will definitely eat here again!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
