I'm from Virginia and heard great things about Tim's, so I tried it out (I'm a foodie). Never had "gator" before, so I ordered that as an appetizer. Yes, it tasted like chicken, but for $9.95, the portion was tiny and it did... taste like chicken. It was VERY fried and spiced, and made me want to try gator without all the grease and spices (what does it REALLY taste like)?! The way it was prepared, it could've been anything! The greese in the fryer needed changed, too. Then ordered the gumbo. Was tastey, but over-priced for the portion served. The highlight was the bread pudding with rum dressing. I don't even have a sweet-tooth, but one taste of it and I was in Heaven! THIS is worth coming here for, truly!!! Absolutely incredible!!! Another kudos to Tim's is the service. Becky was wonderful; I true Southern Belle, and made us feel as if we were family. Yes, I will be back!

Wow.When I am in Huntsville for work I always make sure I eat here. The BBQ Chicken, Smoked pork chop are the best. The bread pudding is addictive and the best i ever ate

If it weren't for the BLAZING hot August heat and the lack of AC, I'd give this place 5 stars. I had a perfectly spiced crawfish etouffe and my friend had the jumbalaya. We were overjoyed at the all you reach beer cooler on entrance and you can, just simply can't, miss the bread pudding, no matter how stuffed you are. Dee-Lish.

Its just OK, had the jambalaya little meat and the rice was sticky and pasty like, not my favorite. the side were good. Bread pudding very good. Would I go again just maybe for the bread pudding.

I've eaten at Tim's more than a few times now. I think it gets better after figuring out what is and isn't good. I'm a big sucker for boudin...but don't get it here. Over spiced and too much rice/too little meat. As for the AC...no, there is no AC in the center section. If you are hot, stay in one of the enclosed dining rooms.

We went here based on the recommendation of one of the people in our group; I subsequently checked it out here on yelp. All the good things that everyone said were true. I can't vouch for what good Cajun cooking really is, but this is what I imagine it should be. I had the seafood gumbo and the rest of my party all had jambalaya of some nature or another. I thought it was great, and everyone else seemed pleased, although they all complained that they ate too much, yet no one other than myself was able to finish theirs (one must keep in mind that one of my nicknames is "The human garbage disposal", not for the quality of food I eat, but purely the quantity. Most of us had the garden salad with the house dressing, which is like a spicy ranch: very tasty and recommended. Trying to remember if this was the place with the raving Yelp reviews about the bread pudding, I asked my associate that recommended we come here, and he said, "Yes, so you have been here before!" I said, "No, but I'm quite adept at using this thingy called the Internet!" One of the other members of the group really loves bread pudding, and was disappointed when he learned that they've got a good one here, but he couldn't eat another bite. I did order it though, and I can say it is to die for! Our server was nice and attentive without being overbearing, and the food was really good. I think they kind of top off at four stars though, because menu selections for a non-mammal eater, such as myself, are very limited, so I can't imagine this going up from four in my book.

We went for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The place has large caricatures on the wall of the long-time cooks and servers in colors approaching the zydeco color spectrum. Numerous signs that has the slang and lingo of Cajun and Creole culture. Example- Mudbug season is starting. Meaning that fresh Crawfish/Crayfish are hitting the plates soon. There are three large dining areas, one of which is an open-air bar where about three tables seemed to be drinking their lunch, which is a good omen. You can find tree stump tables for dining, a huge wooden bar all on concrete floors. Lunch is great because it's pretty cheap (8-10 dollars) for an entree and three sides. I ordered the boudin with turnip greens, fried green tomatoes, and potato salad. Boudin is a Cajun sausage typically stuffed with meat and rice and i didn't really care for the casing nor the texture of the force-meat. Another low was the potato salad which was distinctly ho-hum. The turnip greens had pleasant texture (not the typical stewed kleenex) with a tart flavor and some chunks of bacon. The fried green tomatoes were crisply covered in a cornmeal batter and i used some hot sauce to up the heat quotient, which were overall, quite pleasant. A fellow diner got the crawfish etoufee as a main. I was really jealous of that etoufee, which had been advertised on the menu as award winning. It was without a doubt, the best main we had tried that day. Another diner ordered the red beans and rice as a main which was tasty as well. The other sides i tried were fried okra (i preferred the tomatoes), sweet potato casserole (absolute best side choice), and bread pudding (sticky and dense with raisins). My perfect meal would have been the crawfish etoufee, with turnip greens, sweet potato casserole and fried green tomatoes. Oh and they add on a small chewy wheat-roll for good measure (i used mine to sop up the pot liquor of the turnip greens).

I love Cajun food...the spicer the better...I plugged the Tim's into my GPS under food and it took me right to this restaurants with no problems. I wasn't sure what I wanted because there were so many options to include a huge array of beers. A Man named "D" gave me a couple of samples and EVERYTHING was outstanding. The Customer service was fabulous as well. I also got some bread budding and OMG it was so, so GOOD!!!!! I will go back for sure.

Crawfish e tufe (sp) is amazing. Lunch deal is one of the best anywhere. Everything on the menu is good.

Food is just 'ok'; I recommend the bread pudding. Good stuff.

The bread pudding and squash casserole are the bees knees! They also have a lot of beer. I like beer.

  • R P.

I'm a cajun, and I LOVE this place. For lunch, their crawfish etouffee is excellent. You get three sides with it -- be sure to get the bread pudding with rumsauce... it's to die for! Oh yea, they have about 50 different beers in the cooler.

Being that I'm from Louisiana and specifically Southeast Louisiana, I have very high standards when it comes to "Cajun" food. The fried shrimp were awesome. I had the 16 oz steak and a 1/4 of it was fat and gristle. I ordered the raw oysters and they were crunchy--lots of bits of shells in them so be careful. I had the Boudin sausage. Very inferior to what you will find on avaerage in Louisiana. It had a very "liver" taste and that is NOT how we like it down there. Rice, a key ingredient, also seemed to be non-existent. The bread pudding was as flat as a brownie instead of fluffy. The rum sauce was clear-a big no-no in any Cajun establishment. No Tabasco available although the house hot sauce did have a good flavor. I did not order it, but I saw the muffeletta on the menu had roast beef on it-yuck!!! Roast beef is NOT an ingredient of a teal muffelletta. All in all, if you are unaware of what real cajun food is, you will probably like the food. If you are from Louisiana--stay far, far away!

Tim's has a nicely varied selection of Cajun specialties like jambalaya, beans and rice, etouffee, and boudin. Grab yourself your favorite beer from the incredible selection in the cooler on the way in. The opener is on the wall. The place is easy to miss but worth the visit. It is kind of a dive but in a good way. The service is good and at lunch the place is jammed.

    (2)
  • Adam B.

Tim's has been around several years now. I've eaten here many times and it's usually very good. Like any other place, it can get busy at times. I enjoy going here with friends and family to eat crawfish. Its a pretty laid back place thats sort of a dive (which I like). I will continue to eat here for sure!

We read a review about a month ago that bragged on the food. We tried it. My wife had blackened chicken and I had seafood jambalaya. Both were apparently cooked about the time the review we read was published. The shrimp, scallops and sausage were cooked to death and the onions and peppers were recognizable only by their respective colors and the warning that they were in there. I had fried okra and Cajun fries and both were from frozen stock. My wife's chicken had a good flavor for cardboard chicken. The service was great. The staff were friendly and attentive and did a good job. We've been...now we know...and unless we see a sign that says "open with new cooks and new food" we won't go back.

  • Cameron P.

I've had a few good meals here in the past. But the last two times I tried to eat here (both at lunch) I stood there for several minutes without being acknowledged. Including multiple staff walking by. Myself and another patron walked out. In the past I've had a spicy sausage po boy which was good, and the bread pudding is great. Building is old and dirty. I probably won't go back.

Flew into town today and some of the local folks said i had to try Tim's Cajun. So here i am enjoying the recommendations from the very nice waitress sausage Po boy and the award winning wings. (Smoked then fried) very different and good. The bread pudding dessert is very different then a new Orleans bread pudding but just as tasty.

  • Jim B.

Tim changed the menu. Raised the prices and went from 3 sides to 2. Waitress says everyone's complaining. They also did away with the half chicken. Crawfish Étouffé with "2" sides s now $9.95. Food is still good but the after taste of getting ripped-off is bad! Just lost my business.

    (2)
  • Chris W.

This place is as good as any place in NOLA. Everything I ordered was fantastic, seafood gumbo, seafood jumbalya, red beans and rice, boudin and my favorite, green bean cassarole.

  • Kimberly G.

Great flavors to the food We had. I had The Gumbo with potatoe salad. The cajun spices were delicious. The waitress was very attentive with the refills on sweet tea. The place has a nice charm to it.

  • Bianca S.

Not a fan of the food or atmosphere! Bldg is falling apart and the beer selection is lacking! Just another hole in the wall w/o good food.

  • Maxfactor C.

The food was sooooo good! jambalaya was great! Prices were decent. I was here on business and was looking for a good spot. The waiter let me taste the jambalaya so I could get an idea. Bread pudding was good too.

  • Betsy G.

Stopped here for jambalaya and beer while in town on a business trip. The food and service was amazing! Never would have gone in if it weren't for other yelpers as it looked like a total dive, but I went for it- so glad I did! This is the first jambalaya I ever had that did not require the addition of hot sauce and it had wonderful smoky flavor. The stuffed potato and green bean casserole were good too, as was the Tuxedo black IPA to wash it down. If I'm ever in town again, I'll be back!

    (5)
  • Thomas V.

The food was not temperature hot or tasty. I had the 3 item combo and the Boudin was luke warm and not very tasty. The seafood gumbo had very little seafood. For $17 the portions were small. Waiter gave me bill 5 minutes after the meal arrived and never asked how the meal was.

  • Kristy K.

So Happy we came here, can't wait to go back! Our server was wonderful and the food was obviously homemade, no prepackaged meals here! My groups favorites were shrimp poboy, crawfish ettouffe, fried alligator, green bean casserole, red beans and rice, and the stuffed potato. Go here and Enjoy yourself like we did, you won't be disappointment!

Awesome place! Just went to Tim's for the first time and was very impressed. Dive atmosphere with great food, excellent service, and we had an excellent experience. Would definitely recommend!!

Bugs and Brews Festival that Tim held was awesome! It comprised of Alligator and Crawfish....the crawfish was awesome...I had 250....

  • Dave Y.

What a dive! What great food! I have had the Jambalaya and Gumbo here and they are some of the best I have had, sides like the alligator bites and okra are tremendous. Staff is courteous, attentive and friendly. Hard to find, however I would highly recommend.

I give 'em three and a half, overall. This was our first time to eat here. You enter the restaurant thru the north door. There we were greeted by the waitress, who was doing double duty as a hostess. We ate in this first room, which is the air conditioned restaurant. (The middle room is an open-air bar. No air conditioning there. I didn't see in the south building, the Gras Room. I expect it's a big air-conditioned bar room, but I don't know.) Our restaurant room was once a Pizza Hut. The wife and I ordered a Muffaleta sandwich with Onion Rings, to split. And soft drinks. (My wife is allergic to some Cajun/Creole spice, which we avoid.) The Muffaleta was heated, a nice touch. It also had plenty of tasty olive salad on it. I give it a four. We thought it was better than McAllister's Muffaleta, which was cold. I give the Onion Rings three and a half. We're not from Louisiana, and we don't drink. So we had to work up some courage to try this place. However, I expect we'll be back, to try their burger. It felt to me as if they were slow. We came at 1:00 on a non-football Saturday. Only one waitress was working the restaurant that was one-third full. It looked like one cook in the kitchen, and a bartender in the center bar. However, by 1:45 we had eaten and were leaving. That's probably pretty fast in Louisiana time. But, they're down in a spot where I didn't have Sprint 3G, and they didn't have WiFi.

I would definitely rate this a solid 4.5. The price was great for the amount. The ribeye with étouffée is a great meal. The green bean casserole was amazing along with the stuffed potato. I would have to say this was probably one if the best meals I have ever had.

    (5)
  • Keith W.

I had the chicken po' boy and it was awesome! The sauce that came with it is a house-made specialty and you want to put it on everything. You have to get the onion rings too! I can't wait to go back the next time I am in Alabama. Don't let the décor fool you; they also have a nice beer selection!

  • Matthew B.

Love the dive bar element. Makes it feel authentic. Authentic how? Beats me, but that word seems appropriate. Had the red beans and rice. Really enjoyed the 'serve yourself' beer cooler.

  • Jennifer D.

Good service, but the food was just okay, plus it was a little dark and cold in there. I had the fried alligator (which was actually quite good) as an appetizer. Then, I ordered the fried oysters, okra, and green bean casserole. The best out of the bunch was the oysters, but it was nothing that blew me away, because the batter kind of overtook the actual taste of the oysters. The okra was okay, but there wasn't much flavor, and the green bean casserole is a tad spicy (but some people might like that. The bathrooms are very tiny, but at least they are clean. I *might* eat here again.

  • CJ L.

Tim's is okay. Not the best in town, but ok. The décor is fun, but dreary and the food is overpriced, but good. I have eaten at Tim's several times and really want to like it, but I always leave feeling disappointed. I love etouffe and bread pudding, but have been disappointed with both here. I'm sure I'll be back as people are always either wanting to go or wanting to try it, but left to my own this is not my go to place for Cajun cuisine.

  • Kursteen N.

Pretty good cajun/creole food, came here for lunch. The service is quick, didn't take long for my food to come out. I had the Boudin, stew tomatoes with Okra, squash casserole and bread pudding. Everything was seasoned well and reminded me of the meals I would have when I lived in NOLA.

    (4)
  • Jonathon M.

The bread pudding was to die for! That was awesome. The food was good and the service was too. It's an old Pizza Hut so the ambiance is OK. I enjoyed the gator bites. Would stop here just for the bread pudding anytime.

    (4)
  • Arlene H.

The good: Fried alligator was yummy, reminded me of calamari Gumbo, jambalaya and crawfish étouffée are pleasant Open air bar is a great hangout when the weather cooperates The great: The extremely wide selection of bottled beers The smoked wings The dense bread pudding smothered in sugar topping Corn nuggets The ugly: Tiny bathrooms I once called a few days in a row to find out when they're making corn nuggets as the veggie of the day (lunch time only) they now call me corn nuggets :p

Best fried catfish I have ever had! We had a large group and walked in at the last minute. The staff was so nice and helpful. Got us a huge table set up right away. All the food was excellent. The bread pudding was outstanding. Highly recommend!

Tim's serves fantastic cajun food at great prices in a fun atmosphere. I've been to Huntsville twice and have visited Tim's twice for dinner. The seafood gumbo is great. It tastes fresh and has a good amount of spice. Red beans and rice is also a good, spicy pick. Others in the party had crawfish etuffee, which they raved about. They have fairly extensive selection of beers and the servers have been full of southern charm and hospitality. I have only eaten in the original dining room -- an old Pizza Hut, but there is an addition that contains a bar and more seating. This place is a MUST if you visit Huntsville.

First time here and I had my mouth set for a seafood po'boy. BUT like many other joints they only serve the poboys with fried seafood. I didn't see much on the menu I wanted to try seeing as I don't care for fried seafood. After reading the reviews I ordered a cup of crawfish étouffée, labeled as award winning on the menu. I was expecting a bit more for the $6.95 price tag. It was VERY small. It was ok flavor wise. It had a good crawfish to base ratio and a perfect spice level but the 'gravy' tasted a bit more like buffalo sauce than a roux. It was sort of orange colored like buffalo sauce too. It came with a roll but was such a small portion that I sat there thinking about how hungry I was still going to be. I asked the waitress about getting a small portion of the fried alligator appetizer since I didn't want to add $9.95 to my lunch bill that was already overpriced. She put in for a half order. They were ok as well; crispy exterior, flaky and moist interior, but I didn't taste the spiciness that others mentioned . LOVED the dipping sauce. Maybe a more reasonable portion size considering the lack of gator served in the area. But after a $12+ ticket I left there still hungry and a little disappointed. :-( My waitress was super friendly. As I placed my second order I mentioned I didn't realize the cup of étouffée would be so tiny and she apologized and said it was her fault for not explaining the menu better because I could have gotten a combo with two sides for $1 more. She offered to switch my order and bring me two sides for $7.95. But it wasn't her fault, I saw the combo on the menu but none of the sides sounded like a good combo with the étouffée so I stuck with the half order of gator. I enjoyed the étouffée more at Po'boy Factory and I can get a grilled grouper Po'boy there. So I think I'll be sticking with that crowded joint for my future Cajun cravings. Just didn't leave here satisfied at all.

Very good local Cajun place with a local atmosphere. Went there with a group of 7. There were absolutely no complaints. The sausage gumbo was good as was the potato salad. The bread pudding was way way above average to say the least. I definitely recommend. Wish I had time to try other dishes. Other members of our group loved the crawfish ettouffee and the Po Boys. We went for lunch and got there about 11:30 when it's not crowded and we are glad we did as it was a bit crowded as we were leaving.

    (5)
  • Kelley S.

Not good. The gumbo was overwhelmingly smokey and the potato salad was just the filling to the deviled eggs. I swear to God, the potato salad did not have potatoes in it! My coworkers were not impressed with their food either. Definitely do not recommend it for group lunches. I will say our waitress was very nice and on top of things and that's why I give them two stars. They also seemed to have a large beer selection.

Sorry I picked this for an obligatory work lunch. Nineteen years or so Tims has been here. Those interested in living life in past fond memories may enjoy it but not me. It was fairly busy to its credit for a locally run independent restaurant That and the good tea were the highlights. The jambalaya rice to meat ratio was too much. Too much rice. Sides were cold and he back room was brutal cold today. Sides of squash casserole and fried okra were cold. I threw back come of the okra It tasted like straight from the frozen breaded variety. The squash casserole needed to be read it's last rites. The poor server broke my heart- dude was stuck serving so many people I swear he was as if training for the Olympics. He dashed around with giant trays full of bland food. Always polite. Always kind. He and the tea were the highlight. Today's special was half bbq chicken. Hmmm. Cajun. Not. Please work, don't make me go back. Been there done that didn't get a t shirt on purpose. I do want their fried thanksgiving turkey next year. Holler if you've tried it.

    (1)
  • Christy B.

I've had the opportunity to try Tims Cajun kitchen a few times. The first time was a few years ago when someone purchased a Cajun turkey for thanksgiving and boy was that thee BEST turkey I've ever had. It was so moist and flavorful. I was very pleased. The 2nd time I tried food from their food truck and the food was pretty good. I had the smoked buffalo wings. It was very spicy but the smoke and flavor on those wings kept me wanting more. I was able to get a $1 off card to use in their restaurant. One Saturday I convinced my husband to have lunch there. My restaurant experience is what took this from a 5 star to a 3 star. The restaurant was dark and dingy and as soon as we walked in the smell of either mop water or dirty dish water hit us which was a turn off but I figured perhaps they were doing a midday cleaning. We got seated in the restaurant area that I'm sure has seen better days. I'm ok with outdated decor as long as the food is good. We ordered an appetizer sampler which included: cheese sticks, boudin, and the wings. Once a again the wings were great. The Boudin was ok a bit spicy but not bad. The cheese sticks were mozzarella. I liked them but my husband didn't said they weren't as crunchy as he'd like. As an entree my husband ordered the shrimp poboy which was more bread and letter than shrimp. I ordered red beans and rice with 2 sides. I chose deviled eggs and bread pudding. The red beans and rice was gross and I LOVE RED BEANS AND RICE! It tasted like the smell that hit me in the nose when I first came in the door. Dirty dish water. I took 3 bites to make sure I didn't like it. I didn't. The eggs were good. The bread pudding was ok. I really wanted to give them a 5 but it wouldn't be fair to lie. For the record there's room for improvement. Because of my first 2 experiences I would give them a chance to redeem themselves.

I've had their shrimp po boy, crawfish po boy, and gumbo. All delicious. The service is generally pretty good and the food usually comes out pretty quickly.

  • Stephanie N.

Absolutely love their crawfish ettoufe! Its perfectly spiced and they actually put food in it, unlike the same entree from The Poboy Factory. The staff is friendly and down to earth. They put the food out fast and have great portions for the money. The atmosphere isnt the best but its definitely worth dealing with to eat the food. Oh, and the bread pudding is amazing!

Best crawfish étouffée around. Also try the squash casserole and bread pudding, they are must order sides.

TRY THE FRIED GATOR!!! Ok, I'm sure a lot of people who read this review are probably from Bama or somewhere from the South who've eat Gator a BUNCH. So maybe you've tried Gator different ways. But this was my first time eating Gator, and it was SO good (: We had been told by Alabama folks to try Tim's, so for our team mate's birthday we decided to try it (and because we're from Hawaii and eating Cajun food sounded fun!). The set-up of the place kinda tricked us because they have a bar section and a dine-in section. Not all of us in group realized that, so when we parked some of us tried walking through the bar area thinking it was the dine-in side. We finally walked into the dine-in and saw a big fridge filled with beer (: I thought that it was interesting to see that. You can go to the fridge to pick which beer you want to drink. We ordered Crawfish and Fried Gator as appetizers. I ate SO much crawfish I could barely eat my entree. I think I could have ate just crawfish and gator though (: I ordered red beans and rice because I missed rice. I also ordered a side salad, baked potato, and green bean casserole. The baked potato looked burnt, but it was good (: the green bean casserole was DELICIOUS! I never had green bean casserole like that, but then again I'm from Hawaii and never really ate green bean casserole /: The salad was disappointing. I eat a lot of vegetables and when we went to Alabama I didn't get to eat much of them. I was excited to see side salad as one of the things on the menu. Unfortunately when it came out it was just shredded Iceberg lettuce with a couple cucumber slices and croutons. Wasn't too spectacular. BUUUUUT not complaining. Crawfish and Gator were GREAT (: If anyone reading this knows of a place that prepares gator any different ways in Alabama could you let me know? I want to try it the next time I go to Alabama (:

This is our first time here and food was really good. The chicken wings were smoked, giving them a unique flavor and texture. Will be coming back.....

What manner of man are you that you can summon up fire without flint or tinder? There are some who call me... Tim. In this case, it's a good thing. This was one of my favorite places to eat when I used to get sent out to Huntsville. From the cooler in the front to the authentic (at least compared to places where I live) Cajun food it's worth a visit.
