Delicious gyros! They're packed with meat which is moist and flavourful. The veggies are great. A little bonus, you can get the onions and peppers that go inside the gyro sautéed, which makes it even more amazing. The fries are good too, pretty straightforward but they're nice and crispy Their dolmas are great. Perfectly cooked and delicious. The ambiance is pretty casual, not a bad thing though. Just nice and casual. Very clean. Service is great. Everything's freshly prepared so it does take a few, but it's not s ridiculous wait or anything. Perhaps one of these days I'll get around to trying dessert, usually too stuffed though to try anything else.

I tried the spanakopita, but didn't realize it was fried. Wasn't anything special. The rice was good, the hummus and pita chips were my favorite. I may try a gyro next time to give this place one more shot. I prefer Taziki's hands down.

BLUF: Fast food Mediterranean food. It is pretty dang good and well priced. Not quite as good as legit place but very close. I got the gyro plate and it was really good. I also got french fries which were also really good. I would def go here if I wanted quick food that was good and healthy.

I ordered a Gyro and the large Greek salad. The gyro was perfect. Flavor was spot on and sauce was delicious. The Greek salad was typical but their Greek dressing is homemade and unbelievable. All and all this place is a must try..

  • Jason V.

Great gyro. I don't know about the rest of the menu, because I'm a picky eater and refuse to eat hummus and just about everything else they serve. But I bet that people that like the other types of items on the menu, would say they are good also.

Favorite place in Huntsville. They are very generous with the portions and prices are very fair. It is always clean, great friendly staff, quick service and the best gyros! I suggest big papa gyro or the gyro plate.

Checked this place out for the first time and it I'll definitely return! My wife and I ordered and shared the Big Papa gyro (beef /lamb), a chicken gyro, and a small order of hummus. The ingredients are very fresh! The bread is soft and didn't break like some gyros are known to do. The tzatziki was creamy and the garlic isn't overpowering. All the flavors meshed together nicely. The hummus tastes incredible and homemade. My wife and I plan to return again to Papa Gyros. We couldn't decide if we liked the beef/lamb gyro or the chicken gyro better : )

  • Dana P.

Good Greek food, delicious gyros, fast service. I have usually ordered the Big Papa Gyro, which is a large portion and plenty filling. The pita and filling tastes fresh and they make it when you order it, yet it's still served quickly. I love their sauce. I've also had their hummus, which tastes good, as well, but everyone is a picky hummus eater. They will charge for extra pita bread. Lunch crowd is usually a mix of people from various work professionals to people around the area. It can get busy, but they handle the crowd well. Dinner varies and they are open fairly late. I don't believe they are open on Sundays. But, just about everyone comes here, or has been here at some point, and it's well worth it. - Here on a Monday, on Yelp it says they are open till 10p, but they just closed the place at 9p. Just as an fyi.

The gyros here are amazing. Authentic, fast and friendly. I also tried the gyro salad with taziki sauce as dressing. So good. Everyone in my group loved the food and left stuffed.

The name says it all. They churn out great gyros and hummus but not my favorite in town. Won't disappoint so worth checking out.

Decent Greek Food you can find in town. I love their gyros! The portion is decent. Interior is kind of old and run down but quick and easy food to go with a decent price. I like their tzatziki.

Best gyros in town. Gyro salad is a great low-carb option.

  • Emily G.

My family is Greek, so I've experienced authentic Greek food. Papa Gyro's has some of the best Greek food I've been able to find in the area. Their gyros are amazing and the closest thing I've found that tastes like the authentic food that I've had. I highly recommend Papa Gyros, and you will not be disappointed if you go.

I use to live in Germany and we always had gyros; PaPas gyros are just as good!! Large menu, clean facility, quick service. I could eat here every day!!

Been to this place twice both times on travel and the papa gyro did not disappoint. Tender meat and fresh toppings. First visit I added a Greek salad and I enjoyed thoroughly, I think there was feta on the salad and with the dressing, which I thought added a great dimension. Second visit I added the hummus, and it was a good choice; tasted fresh with great flavor. I will go again when in town.

Been going to Papa's a while now... I'm not sure what made me switch from Jamos to this joint but whatever it was... was permanent. Back in the day, you'd find Papa himself slicing, dicing and directing but now he less seldom and the place has expanded the dining area (a good thing). Gyros are OK, but really I think people miss out if they don't try the Meigou (meygoo) Polo, which I thouhht was a Persian dish but... close enough for NASA right? Anyway, it's rice and shrimp with golden raisins and it's delish. Also, the moussaka is solid. Papa's has added a whole host of menu items since expanding, including paninis, tilapia and salmon plates as well. I'm sure I'll get around to trying them at some point. The lunch crowd is assorted semi-professionals, students and college professors but things can get a little strange at night. But hey, that's actually why I like this place. There's no reason to expect Anthony Bourdain will drop in for an episode of parts unknown, but I don't think he'd have a bad time here if he did... Even if by accident. Good food run by a good owner. The end.

We stopped at Papa Gyro's due to the generally very positive reviews and we were pretty disappointed. The menu was pretty slim and what we ordered was just average Greek food that you can get at any decent Greek restaurant. Everything was fine, just nothing special. The Dolmathakia (stuffed grape leaves) had very little spice and the rice was too dry. The gyro's, we ordered one platter and one sandwich, were fine but again we have had better. The Greek salads were good, tasty and fresh, and the prices fair. If you are in the area you won't go wrong by stopping in. The food is fine. It just isn't worth traveling any distance to eat here.

Delicious, clean, kind and quick service, reasonably priced, local, and authentic! We had the Baghali Polo Mahi Tilapia. The platter was more than enough for my mother and I to split and included lots of fish-the best part! My dad and brother got a gyro with fries and the shrimp panini. Both were great! The Greek dressing and tzaziki was phenomenal! The atmosphere is relaxed, nothing fancy, but bright and very clean. The bathrooms were nice and clean too!

My husband and I dined her last night. He ordered the steak gyro and I had the chicken gyro. We shared a side of hummus. Everything was delicious! We would recommend eating here for a quick and casual dining experience!

Papa Gyros expanded and they now have a very large dining room area. It's now a 5 star review..

  • Ashley M.

I'm seriously beating a dead horse by telling you the gyro was great, everyone else has already stated such. I've never had true Greek food and wasn't quite sure if I liked it before but let me explain why this experience settled my mind. Things I knew I'd love: Pita Things I thought I wouldn't like: bell peppers, feta cheese, tzatziki sauce My theory when trying new things-try it the way it's supposed to be. So I ordered the Big Papa Gyro without making any omissions or substitutions despite my preconceived ideas about what I wouldn't like. Glad too. It was perfect. The pita was soft and chewy; the meat (lamb and beef) was flavorful, juicy, and tender; the veggies on top added the necessary crunch; the sauce was delicious! It was loaded with meat so definitely worth the $6.29. I guess the tzatziki sauce I've had before was done all wrong, I was seriously hesitant about getting it. Theirs was slightly tangy, creamy, and had plenty of fresh dill. The dill was my favorite part and left a wonderful aftertaste. I got fries too since several reviews said they were really good and they were labeled as crunchy seasoned fries. I don't care for fries much unless they're seasoned and super crunchy. These were definitely crunchy(yay!) but not seasoned (wha?). They were $1.99 for a small order. I could do without next time. I was getting so full halfway through my meal that I put down the last few bites of my gyro to eat the fries. My concept was I paid $1.99 for those things so I better eat them. A couple of bites later I was like, screw the fries, I want smore of that gyro! I just wish I hadn't been in such a hurry so I could have taken my time and savored the flavor. The staff was friendly. Both the guy taking my order and the lady handing me my order at the counter had big smiles. I came about 11:30 and it wasn't too crowded and my food came out fast. Why only 4 stars? I just don't think Greek food in general makes it to my favorite, 5 star-worthy, food list. I do like it but it doesn't quite have the spice level I love.

Papa Gyro's is a good place to get a decent quick meal. Papa's has a good selection of veggie food however nothing really blew me away. I got the falafel plate, the falafel wrap and the baklava. Everything was okay but it felt and tasted a little fast foodish. The felafel itself was quite good, there was a good mount of flavor and a nice crispy outside with a soft inside, however everything else on both the plate and wrap was just okay. The wrap was in a sea of sauce and it felt like I had to clean my face after each bite and I left feeling greasy. The plate had the sauce on the side which was good but I found out that the rice and salad were not very good at all....so I used a lot of sauce so that I could taste something. Again I left not feeling all that great, with the one redeeming factor - the baklava. This was a solid way to end the meal and with only that one thought I would come back but only for the baklava. Papa's vibe is also a little fastfoodish with some attempts to make it Greek with a fountain grape vines and some nice paint. However the layout makes me feel like it is a late 90s fastfood place. The price was not bad but for the same amount you can get higher quality food that tastes much better. Papa's might be for many but it is not for me.

Great Mediterranean food. I look forward to trying this place again one day. The service was great and the food was excellent, desserts were absolutely amazing. I've been very impressed with all the restaurants in Huntsville this week. It could use a bit of a facelift and be a premier location.

  • Dave Y.

This place is great. Fast food Mediterranean but terrific. I only had the gyros and hummus, but both were excellent. Service was unusually goo. I, and at least two before me, wen tin for take-out to take back to hotel. When are order was ready, the counter person would bring it to the front, call your number and then open the container so you could verify your order, very unusual for a take out place. By now it is obvious, the staff is very friendly and more than willing to explain anything on the menu. This will be a regualr stop for me when I am in Huntsville area.

  • Elle E J.

I love Greek food. This did not disappoint. I agree with the other reviews that the gyro is fabulous. However, the thing that keeps me coming back, especially for lunch when my appetite maybe can't handle the gyro, is the dolmata plate. It is perfectly filling and the domatas are crazy good. And those potato wedges... drool... so crispy and so much potato! The only reason I would not give 5 stars is because I find the hummus to be lacking. It is a little dry and too much tahini for my liking.

    (4)
  • Rick M.

This is actually pretty good. For a while I had food craving for the gyro they serve . The meat is tender and the rest of the food is truly authentic.

What a cluster. I came here after a long day because it was the only non-chain thing open and I was in a rush. They were closing in 30 minutes so I ordered the gyro platter. I asked for the platter and got the gyro sandwich. (The platter came with rice and salad. The sandwich came with -- well, the sandwich.) I raised that with dude behind the counter -- simple mistake, right? Dude behind the counter proceeded to explain how it was my mistake and not theirs. I let it go -- I was hungry and not in the mood to discuss or argue. I ate my sandwich while other staffers were cleaning up for the night -- right where I was sitting. I mean come on... can't you wait ten minutes to sweep up the floor? Not really interested in a second visit -- once was enough for me. I'll take my chances with other options down the street!

Good food, plenty of spaces to sit, very good prices. I was looking for a gyro and found Papa Gyros on Yelp. Reviews looked good so my wife and I decided to try it out. I got a beef/lamb gyro. It was pretty tasty. Plenty of meat inside. Filling. My wife got a philly cheese steak which was also pretty good. For a side we got large fries which were excellent. Very well seasoned. To top off our meal we got a chocolate shake which was even better than I was expecting. All of that was $20. You can't beat that. And we were completely full afterwards. Can't wait to go there next time.

  • Rebecca B.

'Best gyro' - not even close! Meat was dry, tomatoes soggy & too much onion - tzatziki was bland & made with garlic powder & regular yogurt (haven't they seen the Greek yogurt in the stores??) Aaaand, it should never have dill in it! The place is suffering from a serious identity crisis...from the 'Greek'-inspired food, decor and staff - to the music! It ain't Greek, it ain't middle-eastern...what is it?

    (2)
  • Michelle T.

Pretty good. I had the falafel, which were flat and puck-shaped, and the baba ghanoush. Falafel were good, not too spiced or oily it salty. Baba ghanoush was so-so--had impression that the eggplant used was not in top condition (flavor seemed a bit off). Potato wedges were quite good, not oily fried potatoes, more like baked wedges. Hummus was good! Hummus was slightly spicy. Baklava pretty good.

This place has the BEST local Greek food in town...very much like Greek Fast Food right out of Parthenon. Lamb is yummy, seasoned, and very moist...all dishes are reasonably priced and nice portions. There is another *willnotnamegreekplace* in Huntsville; however-this is the ideal take and go, dine in, authentic greek place to visit. Enjoy!

When I walk into a Japanese restaurant and the staff is all speaking Chinese, I get concerned. At Papa Gyro's Spanish was the language-du-staff. But that's alright, the gyro I had there was excellent. The meat was tender and tasty, freshly sliced off the go-around thingey. The Pita was excellent, and I loved their Tztaki (?) sauce. But what REALLY made this gyro extrordinary were the onions --- sliced scallions, rather than big ugly hunks of white onion. I enjoyed it so much I seriously considered ordering a second one. Portion is medium, not huge, but at $6.49 definitely worth the price. How do yo,u mis-pronounce Gyro in espanol?

I must be going on the wrong day, but so far I've had no good experience with this restaurant. Each time the food is mediocre, the staff is surly, and I leave wishing I had gone almost anywhere else. This most recent time I went with some colleagues, most of whom seemed to like theirs, but the baba ganoush I ordered had the flavor and texture of refried beans and the pita bread was not at all toasted, so it was hard to scoop. Since the bab ganoush was horrible, perhaps I should be glad not much got on the bread. My mousaka was sub-par as well. The rice it was on was overcooked, and the salad was neither fresh nor flavorful. The hummus that came with the dish was gritty, but I'm not a huge hummus fan. The baclava was okay, but it had been sitting too long and the bottom was very soggy from the honey. All in all, the only good thing I had there was a fry from a colleague's plate. If you're nearby and can't drive elsewhere, I guess you can keep doing this to yourself. If you have the time, though, go to 5 A's and get good, fresh food instead.

I enjoyed eating here. It is a small cafe like place, but the variety of meditteranian dishes was great. The only downside is that the rice tasted like water (which is not a big deal for me since I try to avoid eating rice anyway). I'm going to give them another try.

Visited this place in the evening for dinner. Got the Classic Greek Gyro and a side order of falafel. The gyro was great! Nice and flavorful. It was well balanced with the thick pita amply stuffed with meat and toppings. I'd absolutely get this again. The falafel was really the most tasteless thing I've ever eaten. I've had plenty of falafel before and this had no character at all and was way overpriced. It probably comes to them frozen. Ambiance in the evening was nice and they had plenty of seating both inside and out.

I'll start out by stating I've been to Greece many times over, so my review is to be understood for someone who has a solid background in Greek cuisine. A novice would enjoy this place, but it surely will pale in comparison to anything on the islands. The gyro meat wasn't anything to write home about; it tasted like any run of the mill spindle of processed meat. Again, I'm used to either shop owners marinating/making their own spindles or bying high quality as in Europe. Aside from the meat disapointment, the presentation of the salad had items not traditional to a Greek salad; what was corn doing there? There's no reason to add extra ingredients that will just take up room, and in turn detract from the flavor. For me, any place that wants to say it's Greek cuisine, it cannot be called that if it doesn't serve moussaka; it's like an Italian restaurant not selling lasagna. Moussaka is a staple and delicious; serve it. The staff was pleasant, and the restaurant was clean. I went a second time to give it another go; but it just affirmed my first assessment. It's good enough for people who don't know any better, but you're better off making your own Greek food at home if you have an extensive familiarity with traditional Greek food.

First trip here. The restaurant is clean, open floor plan bright and colorful and well decorated. I had the Baghali Polo Mahi Salmon plate. While the salmon was ok it could have stood a bit more seasoning and just a touch less time on the grill. The rice was ok but a bit plain also it was full of Lima beans that I spent a lot of time picking around. If this is intended to be Basmati rice I can't seem to identify any balsamic flavor. The proportions are good and you will leave full. My plate and drink ran about $20. They also don't carry sweet tea so be prepared to put some sweet & low in there. Staff is friendly and prompt, while Spanish is their first language they seem to communicate well with the customers. I will update my review as I try other things from here.

Average Gyro place with a few desserts. Gyro plate $10.99 or Gyro 5.69 but there is a catch it comes with onion tomato, feta cheese, lettuce ? & green bell peppers ? : never heard of that on a Gyro. Go ahead and try it.

  • Isaiah A.

The Gyros won't knock your socks off, their Tzatziki is too thick and they are very very heavy handed with it. But at least they use actual Gyro and Tzatziki, unlike some other places. By far the best Greek in town.

I love their gyro plate with the saffron rice. Ask for a side of fried zucchini. It's not on the menu and it's a little pricy but it's my favorite.

I hate one worded reviews, but I happen to have two words so I'll let it fly: amazing and authentic. The classic gyro is the perfect mixture of lamb and beef. The pita was warm and fluffy, the tzatziki sauce was phenomenal, and the hummus was perfectly smooth and garlic-y. The only thing I didn't like was that their fryer was broken. It happens, so no big, but I had been told by multiple people that their fries are actually really good. Oh well - we'll definitely be back, so there's always next time.

I'm the weird guy who goes to the Mediterranean restaurant and gets the Philly cheesesteak every time. What can I say? It's tasty - and cheap, too. The french fries are hands down the best in town. One of my favorite places in Huntsville to eat.

Clean.. nice staff and the lamb is soooooo tender. Thie flavor is all there and the value is too! Simple, served with styrofoam and plastic. S0 use it as a to go house and it will be wonderful

Like this place a lot. It can be a challenge finding a place to get good Greek food. Coming from Jackson, Mississippi where the revered Greek dining experience is a sweet joint called "Kiefer's" that had an excellent assortment of pita wraps and a to-die-for feta cheese sauce, I was skeptical that I'd find anything in Huntsville that would be on par. Papa Gyro was a pleasant surprise. While relatively inexpensive their chicken gyro just plain tasty. I love that I can get the bell pepper and onions they put on it sautéed at no extra charge. Only downside was it cost about an extra dollar to get more feta cheese, but as mentioned the food wasn't that expensive to begin with so it didn't hurt my wallet too much. Plus there was enough gyro left once I'd had my fill to grab a to-go box and make dinner out of it as well. Not too shabby at all. And while its not my favorite feta cheese sauce, I have to hand it to them the tzatziki sauce was good. Cool rich and creamy. I will be back in the near future for more.

    Awesome Greek food!

Their menu is much more extensive than other Gyro places in town (what few I know of), but the gyro meat was dry and overcooked. I believe I may raise the rating to 4 stars after another couple of visits, when I try their veggie specialities. And I do plan to return! Stay tuned.

great food but couldn't give it 5 stars b/c it seems it's being ran by different people from years ago and they've gotten rid of my favorite ice cream deserts so the store visit was a bit disappointing due to that.

Nothing special, the food is ordinary. In any case, I won't go there anymore as I don't patronize cheap places that charge for tap water. Go to Jamo's instead and support the hard working man there who has owned and managed the place for over 20 years.

Good place to get a decent gyro in Huntsville. I've been going here since the old highway 53 gas station location. This was a college favorite (UAH) and hopefully still is. Portions are great for the price. I'm a big dude and the veggie plates fill me up.

I guess I'm spoiled coming from around Chicago, but their gyros weren't bad, not amazing either. Their fries are TO DIE FOR though! Service was good and quick. The place downtown Huntsville has better gyros in my opinion.

I don't know how this place has such good reviews. I'm only in town for a week and I wanted some good old Greek food and thought this was a for sure winner due to all the reviews. If you get something with tzatziki sauce, do yourself a favor and get it on the side. Otherwise they will smother your gyro in some overwhelmingly creamy sauce they call tzatziki. Way too creamy and dilly. Not my style and I have never had any tzatziki this different before. I'm giving it two stars instead of one because the gyro meat didn't give me indigestion.

This was our first visit at Papa Gyros and I was blown away. We ordered gyros wraps with fries which tasted absolutely delicious. After living in Europe for the last 10 years to include vacationing in Greece I could not believe how good this gyros tasted in comparison to the gyros I actually ate in Greece. Delicious, will definitely be going back in the future.

Ambiance at first glance might make you wonder, but then you realize the beauty in Papa gyros is it's simplicity. Okay so the fake grapes and the cheep white column pillars leave something to desire, but what does it matter when there food is AMAZING!!! Someone wrote in another review "two words: Amazing and Authentic"... I second that. I judge Greek joints like a father judges his daughters boyfriends. With overly high expectations and little hope of ever living up to them. And i want to slap people who pronounce Gryo like Gryoscope... It's Gryo like (Yeeh-Row) people... But alas Papa Gyro's always hits the mark. I've been to Papa Gyro's more than is imaginable in the last year or so and I can say it's consistent. Quick service, simple in presentation, but the food IS authentic and very delicious. Prices are a little high. I did notice they just raised there prices another dollar on most of there plates. But I'm still willing to pay the price because the food is tasty, portions large, and authentic. I've had just about everything on there menu at this point, and I've never been disappointed!

I don't know a thing about Greek food. I couldn't tell you the difference between Horiatiki and Tarama Salada if I had to. I didn't even join a fraternity in college. Ethnic spices usually don't agree with the my lower intestinal tract, so I steer clear of them. So when one of my coworkers raved about Papa Gyro's, I approached with caution. It's in a strip mall. Next to an adult novelty store. But you can tell just by walking inside; this place is something special. Greek folks behind the counter. A good sign. The menu literally looks like a foreign language to me, but I settled on ordering the Spanakopita, or as I referred to it, "number 14 on the menu." A few minutes later I was in heaven. Absolutely some of the best food I've had from a small place like this. The hummus was incredibly tasty. The serving portions are very sizable. In short, I'm a fan. I will absolutely visit this place the next time I'm in Huntsville.

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet. I've had many gyros from many different Greek restaurants in many different cities. Who would've guessed that I would find the best gyro in Huntsville, AL? Phenomenal..

I have worked within half a mile of this place for almost a decade, used the salon & restaurants in the same parking lot, and yet never stopped in. I've never eaten Greek cuisine so it didn't occur to me to try. On a lunch date we decided to try "somewhere new" and in comes Papa Gyro's. WOW. Pleasantly, pleasantly, surprised. I had a beef gyro, and it was wonderful. I had everything that came on it, because I wanted to try it how it comes. I loved it all. Ingredients were fresh and dill sauce.. YUM!! I liked it so much, I went back at lunch break today to try the hummus. I have always been eh about hummus.. don't particularly like it, but it's not horrible. I actually really liked theirs. I like all the little extras that come on the plate as well...pepperoncini, veggies, olives, etc. I will definitely be putting this into my work lunch rotation. They had steady flow of customers, and processed orders fairly quickly for the work involved in each plate. Dining room was small & crowded, but there was a sign saying they were working on expanding the dining room. Edit: Since then I have had their baba ghanoush--oh man what a treat. This is one of my favorite foods now.

Really great gyros. I have yet to find any I like more, and the staff is usually very friendly. They're packed during the week at lunchtime, so I tend to go in the evenings when it's not as hectic, so if you're planning on dropping in during the week, keep in mind that there will be a crowd. I always get the traditional lamb gyro, but I've heard their other food is great as well.

  • Amanda S.

Really really great food! I order the Gyro or Gyro plate if I'm super hungry. The plate is a lot of food. Very fresh and great flavor. This is a hole in the wall. You will have to eat with a plastic fork on a styrafoam plate but it's a great little casual date spot. I love this place.

  • Nicole C.

Greek food at its best. It was surprising that all the workers were of spanish speaking decent and not truly Greek but I guess the only thing that matters i the ingredients. The food was awesome and the basmatic rice was steamed to perfection. The servings are plentiful!! So much so, I needed a nap afterwards. Great place to grab a bite on the go. Fast service.

I kind of think of this place as Greek Fast Food. Their gyros are the best of the greek places in Huntsville, in my opinion. I'm also a fan of their french fries (not greek, I know but they're still good!). The place is pretty small, but I've never been there when it was too busy to get a table to sit at. Your food always comes up fast and the prices are great!

  • Shawn S.

The food at Papa Gyros is wonderful. It is fresh tasting, affordable and completely delicious. I have eaten here at least 10 times and have never had a bad meal. If I were to have any criticisms, it would be that the dining room is rather lacking and they put Green Pepper on their gyros. The dining room is dominated by the soda machine, and it can be hard to walk around since its so congested. But if those are the biggest problems, that's pretty awesome!

  • Panda B.

Lots of my co-workers love this place but I still prefer Taziki over this place anytime. Their algomatic meat isn't my cup of tea (or should I said my wrap of gyros? :P) I like their mixture inside even though I had to squeeze out half of the sour cream first. I hate how I smell like old used cooked oil after eating here every time. Their dessert is good like any other greek place but nothing special. The only plus over the other greek place is that they have fries :) It's an edible place but wouldn't recommend this over Taziki...

  • hobo s.

It really is that good. Everyone seems to have a "go to" meal here, and for me it is the beef cheesesteak (w/ onions and peppers, no mayo) and fries. They must mix the cheese in with the meat in some magical and dastardly way because when you look at the sandwich it appears to be cheeseless, and yet when you bite into it, there it is. Also weird, I always think that I'm going to be hungry after the first few scaldingly delicious bites, but then I'm full by the end. Sneaky. The fries must be eaten to be understood. i'm assuming they have some sort of light light batter on them, but I don't know. What I do know is that they are fresh, hot, crispy, and I will happily trade in my fingerprints for a few days so that I can eat them at magmaesque temperatures. Other people enjoy the gyros, and really the menu extends far far beyond that. One word of advice. ay-Stay ear-clay of e-thay oothies-smay. mmm, cheesesteaks..

I love the gyros at Pap's Gyros, it's a simple as that. Great authentic gyros and the lentil soup is pretty good as well. The only downsides are the tiny dining room and it's crazy busy at lunch. This is a solid favorite for me.

Great place for a touch of Greek. Had the lamb/traditional gyro with fries. So good! Went back again and had the same. Will have to go back again. Simple presentation with reasonable prices. Unsweet tea had a bad taste to it. Otherwise, super.

So, I just fly in from LA and I see all the great reviews, so I think, cool! Bad call. Maybe it's a Monday thing, maybe coming in an hour before closing, I don't know. I was greeted with annoyance, I tipped the guy who took my order, right in front of him and doesn't say a word. It's to eat here, so I figure I'm the only guy in the place, they'll just bring it the 10 steps to me, nope. Which is ok, because the napkins and plastic forks are are up by the counter. I got the Big Papa Gyro, and fries with feta on them, another annoyed look, the meat was some stuff they brought out from their precut plate stock and they took what was seriously the remainder of one of those giant compressed lamb ingots, the size of a hot dog (Not exagerating!) and they chunk it up snd throw it in, all dried out, not so great, but overall not a bad gyro. All the while I'm trying to enjoy my meal in a empty and what should be peaceful dining area, the gal on dining area cleanup is slamming things on the tables, hitting chairs with her broom and after she cleans two tables and slaps her broom all around me, I get up and move to the area she'd already cleaned; WTH, person eating...i can't stand that. So, I'm enjoying the faux seasoned/battered pre-fab'd fries and about a quarter of the way through, I see my styrofoam plate is melted, in places clean through, where the guy layed the molten fries, that was it. I took my tray to the counter and showed the guy and he says, so what, you want some more fries? Wow, talk about clueless and just wanting to get the hell out if there...I said, nope, I just want the hell out of this joint, keep the $10 and the buck tip, the last your boss will ever get from me...

To say I love this place would be an understatement. The place is clean, the food always fresh and consistant and the staff is just awesome. The location is, shall we say "quaint" and almost gives you a feeling of sitting in your Greek mother's kitchen. In the years I have been going, my order has always been prepared correctly (remember, if there are raw onions on food, I have to pitch it out).

It's going to be busy at lunch, and it's going to be standard and uninspiring Greek food. They do have a pretty extensive menu but i am boring and havent tried any of the more adventurous choices.

My husband and I had the gyro plates. The lamb was tender and the sauce was very good. They also give you grilled onions and peppers with the lamb. It was a nice touch. The helping size was huge and reasonably priced. We will be going back again soon.

I had the classic gyro many times here. I tried others from a few places and none ot them touch Papa Gyros. I have taken and told family and friends here and they are all hooked. If you never tried them please give it a try.

This place reminds me a lot of Hooligan's back in Tuscaloosa. A bit greasy, but enjoyable...a bit American, but Greek enough. I've only had the gyros, which have all been very good. The fries are really good also (as they tend to be at Greek places). The prices are pretty fair as you'd expect. The restaurant isn't super large, so expect a crowd around the lunch hour.

    (3)
  • Matt H.

Out of town on business and this is the number 1 rated in the area. I couldn't agree more! The food is awesome and for the price, you just can't beat it. I'm not a greek expert but the standard Classic Gyro is friggin awesome!!! If you're in the area and are even slightly hungry, you must come here!

I've only ever had the gyros from this place, but that's enough to give it my wholehearted recommendation. I've eaten gyros in Europe, and Papa Gyros is just as good. The fries are also delicious. They are crispier than your typical fry, and they're really tasty. It's a pretty tiny place, and you gotta get there before 11am during lunch time to make sure you don't wait in a long line.

  • Mike M.

You can buy gyros from the frozen section at Krogers that are about equal quality. More importantly they fried the spanakopita?! The spanakopita ended up tasting like the fries. If ur ever in Daleville, AL then hit-up trifecta for a real gyro/döner.

  • Justin B.

This may be a hole in the wall, it used to be in a gas station, but the Persian owner knows how to make some great food. Their gyros are the best I have had bar none... There is plenty of meat, but everything inside is portioned well and their tzaziki sauce is great. I would highly recommend the classic gyro you will not be disappointed. The only other item I have tried was the mousakas and I wasnt all that impressed, but their Gyros are the best I have had.

    (4)
  • Shaun C.

The gyro was excellent and I would definitely go back again for one....very tasty lamb and tangy sauce...the hummus and tabbouleh were ok, but looked to be sitting out in the fridge or open-air too long and the olives used to garnish the food were shriveled and spotted (not very appetizing). The staff was ok, nothing special....it was 8:30 (place closes at 9:00) and I was made to I feel like I was inconveniencing them by ordering. The gyro made up for all that though and I would go back again for one.

  • Arlene H.

the rice was really nice and fluffy. the moussaka was a little too oily for my taste and i wish it had some meat in it. the pita wasn't too hard and the little cup of hummus was really creamy. i liked the salad too. i didn't get to try it, but my bf would rate the gyros 3.5 stars. i walked away for a second and he had scarfed it down. baklava was really yummy. glad there's a nice greek place to eat in huntsville.

  • Mindy L.

I am soo glad I tried this restaurant! It was YUMMY! We went during lunch time, and it was pretty busy, but they were still very fast. The portion size was soo big you can probably share, escpecially if you are also munching on their yummy fries. They only have a couple tables oustide, but we managed to snag one. Overall, great experience!

Best Gyros ever! I looove this place! I go so often that the owner even recognizes me! Everything is great here, I'd give it a 5, but the restaurant is small and they're so popular and good that it get so full, but the wait is so worth it! Just try to arrive early for lunch... It's also kind of noisy because of all the people in there.

Absolutely the BEST Greek food in town! The location might be a bit shady (as someone mentioned it's next to an adult novelty store), but it's absolutely worth the effort to get there! Unlike some of the other 'Greek' places in town, this place has an an authentic Gyro (Doner) meat auto broiler that keeps their meat freshly cooked and juicy. That was my first indication that this place was for real. Their gyros are massive and outstanding. The pita bread is soft and fresh tasting, along with their hummus. Even their olives are great! The only downside is that seating can be a challenge, especially during the lunch crowd. Be ready to ask for your food to go, or claim a seat quick. Helps if you bring a friend along to 'scout' out a table while you order the food. Be warned, come with an appetite! Their entrees come with a lot of food!

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Huntsville. I love the chicken gyro and their french fries are amazing. Amazing. The best I have had in Huntsville. As an added bonus you can get "extra tzatziki" for $.69 (i think, or it might be $.79) great for dipping the amazing french fries!

Best Greek food in the city. I grew up on fantastic homemade and restaurant-style Greek and this is as good as it gets in these parts...otherwise, you need to drive to Birmingham or maybe Nashville. This is fast-food Greek, but still great food to satisfy your gyro or spanikopita cravings.

  • Justin A.

This place is excellent. The Gyro's are sliced off a cone and not prepared out of those nasty strips from a box (the chicken is strips, but somehow still delicious). The flafels are good, crisp outside, soft inside. The best is the specials though. On the yellow signs to the right of the register while you're standing in line (which you will be at lunch), take some time to eyeball the decorative text. In my opinion the Khoreshte Gheimeh Bademjan is the best thing on the menu. Surprisingly this place also has the best cheesesteak I've had since I've been here, and they also make a damn good burger. If you're just going here for the first time - try the Gyro plate, if you've been here a few times and haven't tried anything else - it's your loss buddy. I'd also like to say that the owners are friendly and easy going, and I have never had a bad experience here. They may mess up an order every now and then but they are quick to correct it, even during the busy lunch period.

The first thing that people should know about this place is that the location on yelp is a little off. You should continue down university until you see the chili's restaurant. This place is located in the little strip mall behind it. I am not that familiar with Greek food- but the crowds at this place praise the foods taste. I had the spanokapita, per someone's review, and was pleasantly surprised. It came with a small Greek salad (not too much feta), humus, flat bread, rice, and four modest portions of spanokapita. I didn't realize it was a deep fried dish, but it didn't leave me feeling heavy. I will definetely come back and try the gyros. And come early-this place gets packed!

I'd recommend the Spanakopita. Not the best I've had, but the best I've had in Huntsville.

Yum! Was looking for a lunch place on Yelp and found Papa Gyro's. It was pretty busy inside. Families, servicemen, businessmen all having lunch. I don't think any Greek people work there. It was all Spanish-speaking staff. Ordered the classic gyro and it was delicious. Had some hummus and pita bread on the side and a baklava for dessert. The only thing I didn't like was the styrofoam drink cups. Bad for the environment! Would definitely go back!

  • Chris T.

This place is really hit or miss. A couple of times I've been completely overwhelmed by feta on my food. They make grown-ass man portions of mostly-Greek food. Not as decadent and carefully prepared as my girlfriend's yiayia's feasts back in Chicago, but hey it's billed as a fast food place. With that in mind, it's a much, much better option than American chemically drive thru crap. Fresh, real ingredients. PS do not get the fries, they are overly fried and almost gave me a coronary. They make great smoothies. I'd eat here again but I'd probably split the portions.

The gyros here are insanely good. It's as if Zeus reached down from Olympus high and bestowed upon man a sandwich masterpiece. These things are so massive and extremely delicious that you don't so much consume it as you do become one with it. By the time I finished (perhaps three minutes later) it looked as if I had been shot in the face at point blank range with a salad shooter. I don't think I even breathed from start to finish. Worth a trip. Oh yeah, the fries aren't bad either.

  • Cindy F.

I tried Papa Gyros tonight for the first time. It was delicious and my dinner was $8. Great gyro, the best tzaziki sauce I've ever had. I had the chicken gyro, delicious! I will go back.

By far the best Greek food in the city! The gyros are succulent, the spanikopita is perfectly cooked...everything is just wonderful. One of my favorite lunch spots! They get VERY busy for lunch, so go a little early or a little late.

Favorite place in Huntsville. They are very generous with the portions and prices are very fair. It is always clean, great friendly staff, quick service and the best gyros! I suggest big papa gyro or the gyro plate.

    (5)
  • Katie D.

  • Brandie R.

  • Angel S.

Loved it best gyros in town co-workers and i have been back multiple times . we're only in town for a short time and it was recommended to us by our hotel staff

    (4)
  • Danielle B.

I love their gyro plate with the saffron rice. Ask for a side of fried zucchini. It's not on the menu and it's a little pricy but it's my favorite.

    (5)
  • Ashley W.

  • Gary L.

Their menu is much more extensive than other Gyro places in town (what few I know of), but the gyro meat was dry and overcooked. I believe I may raise the rating to 4 stars after another couple of visits, when I try their veggie specialities. And I do plan to return! Stay tuned.

  • T J.

great food but couldn't give it 5 stars b/c it seems it's being ran by different people from years ago and they've gotten rid of my favorite ice cream deserts so the store visit was a bit disappointing due to that.

  • DJ C.

Really really great food! I order the Gyro or Gyro plate if I'm super hungry. The plate is a lot of food. Very fresh and great flavor. This is a hole in the wall. You will have to eat with a plastic fork on a styrafoam plate but it's a great little casual date spot. I love this place.

Updated this review because they have improve substantially since last time I ate here.

So far it's the best Greek food I have found in Huntsville. The staff is friendly and even when it's really busy service is relatively fast. I've only been a few times but will definitely being going back.

Awesome, cheap Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food.

We stopped in before hitting the road back home....great food...reasonably priced. Stop here...you won't be sorry.

Out of town on business and this is the number 1 rated in the area. I couldn't agree more! The food is awesome and for the price, you just can't beat it. I'm not a greek expert but the standard Classic Gyro is friggin awesome!!! If you're in the area and are even slightly hungry, you must come here!

Perfect laid back place for a good Greek/Med bite to eat. The gyro and hummus were great. I will be back.

Really good Greek food. They have recently expanded the seating area, so the restaurant has doubled in size (negating the cramped feeling it used to have).

You can buy gyros from the frozen section at Krogers that are about equal quality. More importantly they fried the spanakopita?! The spanakopita ended up tasting like the fries. If ur ever in Daleville, AL then hit-up trifecta for a real gyro/döner.

The gyro made up for all that though and I would go back again for one.

the rice was really nice and fluffy. the moussaka was a little too oily for my taste and i wish it had some meat in it. the pita wasn't too hard and the little cup of hummus was really creamy. i liked the salad too. i didn't get to try it, but my bf would rate the gyros 3.5 stars. i walked away for a second and he had scarfed it down. baklava was really yummy. glad there's a nice greek place to eat in huntsville.
