I was less than impressed. Wasn't the best I've had, nor the worst. My husband and I went with friends for a hibachi dinner, because it was one of our friend's favorite places to eat. I had the spicy tuna sushi roll to start out the meal, and it was pretty good. The menu doesn't tell you that there is tempura in that roll, so if you have gluten sensitivities watch out! The hibachi meal itself was good, serving the traditional soup, salad, meat, veggies, noodles and rice. The hibachi cook was efficient but didn't make a point to go out of his way for a great show. The worst thing about the dinner was the fact that we were literally rushed up from our table by the manager because they "needed the table." It was a Saturday evening, but they were hardly packed, and being rushed out the door just after paying certainly made the experience one that I will not be repeating. If given a choice, I would much rather go somewhere else for my dinner.

Went there for lunch and had their lunch box special. The food was ok, edible; a bit pricey for the portion.

Looking for that hibachi experience where the chef cooks in front of you? Look no further then Ichiban on Whitesburg, next to Publix! All in all, a very friendly staff, good value for the food! Would recommend and will visit again!

Two of us went for the sushi, and I wasn't impressed enough to go back. The staff was friendly and the place was clean enough, but the sushi took a long time to come out; we were sitting by the sushi bar and they weren't very busy. There was some discussion between our waitress and the sushi chef, so I think he might have forgotten our rolls. As for the food, I do recommend the seaweed salad. It came with a generous helping of green shredded seaweed, perched on top of mixed greens, with a light tangy dressing with sesame seeds. That was the best dish of the night. We also tried the fried oysters, but instead of battering the oysters whole, they flattened them and fried them. The 'fishy' taste was strong, which tells me the oysters started out small and not quite fresh, and the batter was dark as if the oil hadn't been changed regularly. We ordered 3 rolls: spicy scallop, spider roll, and rolls royce (tuna inside, avocado on top with a thai/kiwi sauce), and the white tuna sashimi. The presentation was beautiful, but the spicy mayo was too much mayo and too little spice, and it tasted a little old. The spider roll was fine except that the imitation crab meat they added to the soft shell crab was a turn-off. The rolls royce was tasty and fresh and the kiwi sauce was a nice sweet touch, but the white tuna, though generously cut, wasn't very fresh. If I were to go back I'd stick with the rolls royce and the seaweed salad, as some of the raw fish was hit and miss in terms of freshness. I'd also skip the spicy rolls and just ask for a bottle of Sriracha so I don't have to wonder how fresh the mayo is. But overall, I'd say drive a little farther and go to Edo's for dependably fresh and delicious sushi!

This is my favorite sushi in Huntsville -- we always share the boat and it's delicious. The sushi in Huntsville doesn't really compare to other cities but this place is delicious and affordable. Sit at the sushi bar!

We used eat here often and the food was always delish! The service is slow and we had 2 bad expereinces on our last visits. Hair in food and such slow/bad service that after 30 minutes they had not taken our order so we walked out.

Had lunch on a Saturday so it was just my wife and me at the hibichi with two other couples. Had some salmon sushi (I'm new to sushi, so I don't know the name but it was just the fish draped over rice, not a roll) and it was delicious. The hibachi chef was quick with little presentation. The meal was good, not great, but better than some of the other hibachi restaurants in town so we will likely be back.

They don't live up to their Ichiban name. After spending $65 for a two person meal and have eaten in many Japanese hibachi style restaurants, I have plenty of room to post my opinion of this place. There wasn't much money spent on the appearance of the restaurant. You walk into a big open room full of hibachi tables. I didn't notice anything to give the restaurant feel of a Japanese restaurant, or don't remember any. First thing I noticed when we sat down was the hibachi grill was not clean. It had rice and sauce left on it from the previous group of customers. I thought "ok, the chef will clean it up", but NO he didn't and cooked on the dirty grill. Presentation of the hibachi grill chef was not entertaining at all. All the entertaining he did was at the beginning of his performance where he clanged his knives, made the giant fire flame up, and the volcano trick. He didn't even do the simple stuff like spin the eggs or flip the shrimp tail in his hat. Very boring presentation. AND he was coughing all the while he was cooking the meal. The chef also used way too much sauce on all the food items which made the meal way too salty. I was drinking water like a fish. Really strange thing was that the chef was real stingy on the vegetables. Any other Japanese hibachi restaurant I've ever eaten at has piles of vegetables on the dish. My fried rice had ONE green pea in it. The vegetable part of the meal was the last thing to be cooked, I think I got like four bites of vegetables on my plate. Maybe because they're new, maybe they're in a learning process, this place has a lot of room to improve. I may be back one day but it will be a long time before I come back.

I have a feeling the owners of this restaurant want to discourage families from coming by giving them the slowest service ever! The college students that came in 15 minutes after us were served 15 minutes before us even though my kids were getting restless in the corner. Besides the molasses like service there is no kids menu so be prepared to split dishes between your kids. I was also a bit disappointed with their food. I'm as white as they come and I can make better Oyako-don.

My family and I have visited many Hibachi restaurants across the country and this place was absolutely stellar. Quick attentive service, smiling cooks, very child friendly, and the food (whatever the component) was extremely flavorful and unique tender. Go here, you'll love it!!

This place seemed to be permanently "under construction." Every time we thought they might be open they weren't. But they finally did open and we decided to give them a shot. We walked in the door and waited about 10 minutes in a small and increasingly crowded waiting area for someone to greet us. It seems the hostess was also doubling as a waiter that night. There were no teppanyaki tables available, but that was okay as we didn't have reservations or anything so we decided to sit at a table. We both ordered teppanyaki from the kitchen. It had a LOT of onions on it. The teriyaki shrimp was sitting on a bed of onions, far more then one normally finds in such dishes. I'm giving this place 3 stars for now. I'd be willing to give it another try after they have worked out the quirks, but for now it probably won't be on the regular rotation of restaurants.

Today was my first visit. Lets start with the negative because I always like to close out with the positive. Also take into account I only had sushi. I came in and ordered a seaweed salad, spicy tuna and Atomic roll. Ordered the Sea Urchin but they were out. The sushi coming out was a bit slow. The spicy tuna roll wasn't spicy and contained tempura flakes which is strange ( for me ). The rolls seemed to have a bit of a blandish taste and all I can seem to attribute it to is their rice. It is not quite as flavorful as I'm used to. The sushi menu could stand to be a bit more expansive and descriptive. Now the pluses The wait staff were attentive and friendly. The facility was clean and for everything I said about the sushi its actually decent except for just a few little thing I mentioned earlier. Everything seemed to be fresh and I loved their seaweed salad. It sits on a bed of greens with a piece of crab and the rice vinegarett. They also present their food well. I am always glad to see someone take the time to dress it up a bit. For a seaweed salad, drink and two rolls I spent about $32.00 with tip.

Completely mediocre sushi. The spicy tuna was adequate (it should be said, if you cannot make a good spicy tuna, maybe sushi is not your game). While the rest of the sushi was good (NOT great), the preparation was not particularly well executed and fell apart rather than hold up to chopsticks. The service was slow and unimpressive. I will generally give a restaurant more than one chance, I am not inclined to do so in this case.

I was kinda apprehensive trying this restaurant, seeing an average of 3 stars, but since it was the closest sushi restaurant I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised and feel sorry for the people who had a bad experience there. The place feels authentic Japanese with the decor. We were shown to a table right away, and the service was quick, which could be expected since the place was only halfway full on a Tuesday night. I had the New Ichiban roll. The presentation was very good, and it tasted excellent. I had some nigiri, which was about average. All in all I will go back there again when I am in the Huntsville area, and can recommend this place.

This was probably my worst experience I ever had here ! I won't come again . I ordered a spicy tuna roll and it looked pathetic they barely put any rice in it and the rolls were so little and then he forgot to put the spicy mayo on it which would make it a "spicy tuna roll " . I've eaten here several times but never had my rolls made so horribly ! And the service was awful this time . I ate one roll and left was there for maybe a whole 10 minutes !

Terrible service, I tried to send something back to my liking and they still charge me for it. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Therefore better sushi places in Huntsville, try I love Sushi or Shogun.

My family went to New Ichiban tonight...we are regular customers and have always had good service and enjoyed our meal...but not tonight! Tonight we paid cash and gave our ticket back to our server and did not need cash back. A few minutes later the entire wait staff and owner came over to us insisting that they did not get our ticket payment. The entire group of people sitting with us all told them that we had all handed our tickets to her but she (the owner) flipped out and made a huge scene. I told her that we would gladly pay again if she would calm down but that we would never be back. Horrible/Embarrassing situation! We have been super loyal customers but we won't be back!

Scale = 0 to 5 Atmosphere: 3.5 Nice, quaint little place, but pretty similar to every other Japanese Hibachi I have been in. But of course, the hibachi cooks are entertaining and exciting to watch and that just adds to the experience. Beer: 3.7 Good selection of beer. Wish they had more variety on domestics, but they do have a good selection of Japanese beers that aren't readily available just anywhere. Food: 4.2 I have only ate at 4 hibachis in my life but this is by far my favorite. The rice is the best I have ever had and their yum yum sauce is far and away the best. This is the only place where I actually will eat the Miso Soup. Service: 4.0 I have been here three times and the service has always been stellar. Sometimes, as expected, there is a language barrier. I had the hardest time trying to order a Yuengling, but we eventually got on the same page. Overall: Maybe my experience with Hibachi is limited, but this is far and away my wife and I's favorite. There is room for improvement, as there pretty much always is, but my complaints are minimal. I would definitely recommend.

6 of us went for my moms birthday this week. We thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband and I split the filet ordered medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The rest of the group had the chicken, scallops, red snapper. Overall the food and rice was better than we have had at Shogun or any other restaurant like it in the area. My mom got a free martini and free fried cheesecake for her birthday, which was also excellent. They also give complimentary ice cream for dessert which is a big plus for the kids. This was our first time and we would definitely go back.

Went to this restaurant for 8 yr old's birthday. SIx adults, 3 kids and 2 infants. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. They advertise free cheesecake and a picture for birthdays. We were informed that there is no lunch menu on Sunday...only Monday through Saturday. The restaurant was vacant when we arrived. The hibachi presentation was rushed. The food was ok. When we asked about the birthday cake, the server said they were closing and the chef was going home. It took quite a bit of insistence to get them to throw together the cheesecake so the 8 year old would not be disappointed. One of the women in our party went to use the restroom. She was the female server use the bathroom, flush and walk out of the bathroom without washing her hands. The woman said to the server "Aren't you requried to wash your hands?" The server totally ignored her. I asked to speak with the manager, and was told that there was no manager on duty. I called back at 6:30pm and they again told e there was no manager until next week. Our bill was $200, so not a cheap place to eat. No alcohol either. I would not recommend this restaurant.

I've been to several hibachi places in the Huntsville area and everyone of them is better than this place. The miso soup is basically salt water, the ginger dressing on the salad was mediocre, the show presentation by the hibachi chef was listless, and the portions were undersized. Take the extra time to drive to Sakura on County Line Road instead for a much better Japanese hibachi experience.

We eat here all the time and the food is excellent and service is great. Kobe roll (pictured) is the best roll. It is on the supplement menu (not the main.)

Why all the negative reviews? I just sit at the sushi bar and eat the Nigri. It's the same fish as everywhere else, the same quality, maybe a buck more. The miso is good, the japanese salads are good, the toilets are amazing!! I am authentic Japanese boy, but they seem to do many fancy specialty rolls for those who like them, and have those Hibachi table things (if that is what they are called). All-in-all a great little lunch place, the same as all the other Sushi restaurants in town.

Our go-to teppanyaki spot -- love the tuna medium rare, but don't overlook the dinner box option for a variety of treats! (Go after 7:30pm if you can...you'll have a whole different experience later in the evening.)
