Please note that this was my second visit to Mezza Luna and this review is based on the collective experience of my 2 visits. My wife and I arrived at 1700 on Saturday and didn't expect to be seated right away based on the fact that we didn't have a reservation. However, when we saw more than half the tables were not occupied, we were surprised that we were told it would be a 10-15 minute wait because they had to clear a table for us - please note this was at 1700 and more than half the tables be available. Upon being seated, it took our server 10+ minutes to bring us water and the menu. Please also note that he forgot to get us the drinks menu and the happy hour & specials menu which he conveniently blamed on the hostess. It took him another 10-15 minutes after we placed our drinks order for him to bring our drinks. At that point, we realized his slow paced nature and went ahead and order our apps and entree at the same time - just so we wouldn't have to wait for the next coming! We ordered 2 dozen fresh oysters, some sort of potato and jalapeno soup and one entree each (mussels for my wife and clam pasta for myself). The same incompetent server brought us our oysters and proceeded to tell us he was told they didn't have the type of oysters that he told us about and got us the only type they had. My wife and I love oysters so we didn't complain and figured it was just a miscommunication. However, as soon as we tried the first oyster we both looked at each other and said the same thing - the oysters weren't fresh by any means. They were previously frozen and just didn't taste right. If we didn't want fresh oysters we would have gone to Wentzell's. Apparently, they must have had a bad communication day because the same thing happened with our soup. He claimed he was told they had another soup-of-the-day and not the potato and jalapeno soup that he had told us about. We didn't care for the new soup so he came back and took it away and stated that he would remove it from our check. The soup was extremely salty and the spinach was overcooked and very soggy. We received our entrees about 40 minutes later - no complaints with the main course. The food was great, but we were already extremely unhappy and ready to leave. So, we tried to finish our entrees as soon as possible so we could ask for the check, pay and leave. I was surprised to see that they charged me for the soup even though I was given the wrong soup and told they wouldn't charge me for it. We didn't even eat the soup! I made sure I put a note on the receipt stating how I was supposed to get a credit. However, the server still got a good tip - after all, 'tis the season! If you're looking for excellent service, this isn't the place. They have decent food, but nothing to write home about. For the price you pay, you could and should get something a whole lot better.

Not your pretentious expensive fine dining experience. In fact, no pretension at all, simply dining perfection at only modestly high prices commensurate with the quality. An elegant decor and an efficient hostess. Lunchtime tables were dressed with black butcher paper, a floral vase, and black linen napkins rolled around good quality metal utensils. Outdoor seating optional. For $22 (inc. tax & tip) I enjoyed a lovely leisurely lunch. I chose the crab cake special with side salad and hot coffee. Do not expect rapidly delivered American-style huge portions. Leave yourself an hour to enjoy your lunch the way Europeans do, and expect to depart with a pleasantly filled appetite, not stuffed to the gills. Excellent food requires extra time to prepare on demand... although the delightful green salad was presented immediately. It was a European-style mix devoid of iceberg or romaine (yea!) with thinly sliced radishes and (yes!) halved cherry tomatoes (problematic to eat when uncut) which actually had flavor. The chef was happy to omit the cucumber. The obviously house-made vinaigrette was tasty: perky acidity and not salty. A sliced baguette with a light dipping oil accompanied, and I couldn't resist eating it all. The crab cake, roast potatoes, and long green beans arrived hot with a delicate cream sauce liberally sprinkled with capers. Each item was cooked to perfection... and presented like a gift on the plate. The crab cake was the best I have ever tasted: not just light in density but lightly fried, and packed with crab as opposed to filler. Now I have a pet peeve about salt. I find most chefs overdo it, possibly to hide lack of freshness. Not this dish... the seasoning was so restrained, you could actually taste the crab. The chef knew the sauce with its capers had enough salt. The total volume of the cake would probably fill a 3/4 cup measure, a healthy portion size for the majority of us that need to eat better. The coffee (with refills) was only $2.00, and was an outstanding drip from freshly ground beans. That price will probably have to rise due to the expected coffee crop shortages (a nasty fungus which will double or triple coffee bean prices). So I can't say Mezza Luna will be my favorite restaurant because I can't afford to spend that much on lunch every day... even if the price is worth it. I can say it's perfect for a first (lunch) date if you want to impress your date. Other reviews mentioned bad service... my server (Hannah) was flawless.

Against all odds Mezza Luna has managed to survive in a city that for a long time did not embrace independent restaurants. The entrees are great here and the olive oil they serve with the bread as a starter is really good quality and actually worth dipping your bread into. However, the small plates and desserts never satisfy-they lack taste and are usually pretty lackluster. No matter how many times I try their desserts I always feel as if I should have saved my calories. For example, the saybeon I tried last time did not have a hint of wine and tasted like boxed pudding. The only reason I thought maybe it wasn't a mix of boxed pudding was the overcooked egg remnants that are the products of rushed stove top cooked puddings floating throughout my serving. Service has always been spotty but if you sit at the bar they take really good care of you and you can watch the young staff in training churn out their dishes. Stick to the entrees and great wine list and don't save room for dessert.

This is my favorite restaurant in Huntsville. Love the tomato salad and margarita pizza from the wood burning oven. Luna burger is great especially with the fried egg on top. Even the Pork Belly sandwich is awesome. I've never eaten anything there that wasn't delicious. Service is always attentive and Matt makes the best vodka martinis with the blue cheese olives. See ya there!

There was no hostess to seat us when we walked in for at least 5 minutes. We waited at least 15 min before a server came to our table. And the wait for food was around 30 minutes which seemed a bit much considering the lack of customers there. The food wasn't bad. Had a pepperoni pizza which was pretty good. Overall was not impressed though. Will not return.

Mezza Luna is a new restaurant in Jones Valley that has a nice modern atmosphere. i went there for dinner on a Friday night and the place was packed. Luckily, I only had to wait about ten minutes for a spot at the bar. As an appetizer, I had the flat bread with hummus, a black olive paste, and a red pepper paste. The hummus and red pepper paste were very good. I'm not a big fan of black olives, so I didn't enjoy that very much. Since I know I don't like black olive's I can't really give them a ding on this. For dinner, I had a salmon pizza with a cream cheese spread and capers. The pizza was very good. Both of these items weren't my favorite, and the next time I go in, I will need to try something else. At first, I did find the service a little lacking. I sat at the bar and waited about ten minutes before I was served. Now, I'm willing to give them a bit of slack in this area because the bar was very busy and the seat I sat in was only vacant for about 30 seconds. Once my server realized that I hadn't been served, it was much better. She was very helpful. Even though the food and service weren't the most enjoyable, I'm willing to give them another try. It's not like I didn't like the food. The food was good, but it wasn't really what I was looking for. It didn't hit the spot. I'm also willing to give them a pass on the service. Mainly because they're a new restaurant, and it was a busy Friday night. We'll see how I like it the second time around. Pros: Nice atmosphere Tasty Food Cons: Service was a little slow initially

We went there for Mothers Day Sunday brunch and it was awful. The waiter had the personality of a cold fish. The quiche was a small wimpy serving size for the money and it wasn't even hot. No one in our party of 7 was impressed and I am not inclined to go back. For Mothers Day you would expect it to be busier, which it wasn't. In Huntsville restaurants that don't maintain consistent quality and service don't last, and I don't expect this one to make it for very long lunless they do something, and quick!

I really like Mezza Luna. The food is quite good. They have a great wine selection And the staff is fun. We like Carlos best. Their sunday-brunch is awesome. Poached eggs, gravy, biscuits, fruit, salads, bacon, and CAKE! Its a super good deal, as U get the offerings on the buffet plus 1 item from the regular menu..hey that's 2 meals for the price of 1. The pizzas are yummy too.

Their lasagna is fabulous! 1/2 price wine on Thurs and 1/2 off martinis on Wed make it even better!

Maybe my expectations were too high for Mezza Luna. I was surprised to see that their health rating was only an 85. I wasn't able to see what the infractions were, but 85 is pretty low for a restaurant just getting started. I was seated almost immediately at one of the outside tables. They were even nice enough to put me in the shade so I didn't burn to a crisp. I ordered the pesto chicken pizza and a green (side) salad. Both were good but not outstanding, especially for the price. They've just started serving Sunday Brunch as of Mothers' Day. I may go back and check that out, but otherwise I just don't see myself headed back. It's not bad; the "experience" just doesn't justify the price tag.

Stopped in on our way to Nashville for New Years, for lunch. The place wasn't extremely busy, but it did take a few minutes to be waited on, which is the only real reason I wouldn't recommend the 5th star. I ordered a smaller meal, one with pizza and a salad, while my fiance ordered the fillet, as he usually does when it is available. My Ceasar Salad was amazing! The pizza I had, if I remember right, was pretty descent, but I took a bite of the fillet, and oh my! It was one of the best I'd ever eaten! Very reasonably priced too. We will be re-visiting this joint and I will definitely splurge on the steak my next go round! Very flavorful and so very tender! Perfect...

Sunday morning, 11AM, was looking for a brunch place, and Mezza Luna's brunch buffet did not disappoint. The buffet is $17 per person, includes items from the buffet bar and unlimited fresh squeezed orange juice. Brunch alcoholic drinks like Mimosa runs appx $10. You can also order from the menu instead of the buffet, the omelets ranges appx $12-$15, just to give you an idea. (To see the complete list, check the menus on their website) The buffet bar is not big, let me list the items available today: ***Breakfast items*** waffles, bacon, scramble eggs, biscuit, gravy, grits, yogurt, fresh strawberries and fresh blueberries. ***Lunch*** Lentil soup, pizzas, frid chicken tenders, sweet potato fries, baked potatoes. ***Salad*** 2 greens, beets, carrots, tomatos, cucumbers, feta cheese, 3 different dressings. ***Entree*** Grilled chicken with herbs, steak franks, grilled mahi-mahi ***Deserts*** Awesome chocolate cake with fresh raspberries, pecan pies, coconut cake, and some other cakes that I was too full to even look at them. So, as you can see, although the buffet is not big, but there are plenty of food and enough of variety to keep everyone happy. Food are good qualify, not the typical greasy buffet fried food. They are all VERY FRESH and all VERY DELICIOUS. We saw the staffs worked hard to keep everything fresh and well stocked. The dish that sat out longer were replaced with freshly cooked dishes. My personal favorite was the mahi-mahi. By the way, we got there appx 11:30AM. Surprisingly, while Another Broken Egg has a 2-mile line, the place was not crowded at all. I suspect it has something to do with the $17/person price. It is a bit steep, but the food is good quality and to me it is worth the $17. ---- Mezza Luna serves awesome lunches and dinners too. My personal favorite is the crispy pork pizza, reasonably priced! On Tuesdays they offer specials on cheese pizzas ($5), oysters, and calamaris; Half off wine bottles on Monday and Thursdays.

We've been rocking Mezza Luna for brunch lately, as we've grown kind of sick of Another Broken Egg. The brunch buffet is $17.95 and differs every week. They let us sit and read our New York Times providing never ending coffee. I love the food here -- I eat mostly paleo and there is always a delicious grilled meat or fish. I always have one of their salads - they have super fresh toppings of radish, carrot, cucumber and a killer shallot vinaigrette. Then, I go to their "dinner-ish" options - fish, meat, and veggies. You can order eggs benedict by the one by one from your server so I usually get a poached egg that way and put it on top of my meat. Perfect! You can easily overeat here -- they have stuff for kids like sweet potato fries and spaghetti and a whole dessert buffet, but if you choose strategically from the breakfast (eggs, bacon) and dinner foods, and augment with their fresh fruit and salad, you can really have a fantastic brunch!

From the outside, you can't tell what cool decor they have on the inside. We started with focaccia with a baked feta marinara sauce and fresh basil. It was very tasty! The Caesar salad was fresh and light, and my entree, the lasagna, was perfectly seasoned. Last, but not least, our server, Amanda, really knew her wines, was polite, funny and efficient. I will definitely be back!!

My first impression with Mezza Luna wasn't a good one. My husband, another couple, and myself stopped by on a Saturday night around 7:30 and was quickly told that we would have to wait two hours. Two hours? I didn't want to Hulk out from being so hungry (it's been known to happen), so we left. My husband and I returned on a Thursday night to a much better waiting time and I now know why people would wait that long to eat at Mezza Luna! I got the crabcake with roasted potatoes, green beans, and a lemon butter sauce. At first I was a little put off that there was only one seemingly small crabcake, but trust me - it's bigger than it looks! I love it when crabcakes are more crab meat than mix-ins (mayo, etc) and this one hit the jackpot. The potatoes and green beans were pretty standard. My husband got the Sicilian piadine and really liked it, but would've preferred more meat. Our waiter talked us into the Italian doughnuts for dessert and oh. my. God. Get this dessert. Four fried dougnuts rolled in raw sugar, topped with butterscotch and chocolate sauces with homemade vanilla gelato. Best dessert I've had in a restaurant in a long time. Overall, Mezza Luna is a great place to eat a nice (kind of pricey) dinner.

Had the Ribeye, wife had the mussels and mother in law had the crabcake. All were great, my ribeye was cooked MR and was perfect with the goat cheese soufflé. I had (2) Sam Adams and WOW I haven't had a colder beer. Reasonably priced menu and a nice local owned place in Huntsville, AL. I highly recommend this place. It will not be my last time there!

One of the best known secrets in Huntsville. Great food and service for the money. Knowledgable staff who are really service oriented.

  • Keri B.

The staff is very pleasant & the ambiance relaxing. However, everything from the appetizers to main entrees take twice as long as they should to come out of the kitchen. I would have probably given this place a 4 or 5 for ambiance & the quality of the DELICIOUS meal, but I was simply appalled at the wait time. If you have time for a leisurely meal and no place to go after, and want amazing food then definitely go here. If you have ANY kind of schedule though, block off at least 2 hours for your meal.

Good place to go and sit at the bar if you are eating alone while on business travel. The food is good...nothing spectacular. I always get the fish of the day since it seems to be a bit interesting compared to the rest of the menu.

We went to Mezza Luna for Valentine's dinner this year and very much enjoyed it. The menu had a varying array of dishes over a wide range of prices. I had a grilled fish entree (I can't remember exactly which one, maybe grouper?), which was one of the evenings specials. It was cooked to perfection and was every bit worth the $30 price tag (I was very tempted to try the $60 Kobe beef NY Strip...). My girlfriend had the Grilled Chicken Pesto Pizza (only $15...bless her), which I also sampled and found to be very tasty. I had a Yeungling which was served in a nice, chilled glass. She had a couple of their cocktails, which she really enjoyed. I sampled her "Sour Berry" cocktail and thought it was one of the better mixed drinks I've had. The service was very polite and helpful that night. I also went with a lunch group of 4 the week prior to Valentine's...the service was polite but very slow. I had a $10 hamburger which was pretty tasty... but after waiting about 50 minutes or so, I think I would have been happier next door at Five Guys with their fries instead of the "homemade" chips that accompanied my slowly-prepared burger. SO...I highly recommend Mezza Luna for a romantic dinner evening, but I was not as much of a fan of their lunch service. My rating is for our dinner experience and not for lunch.

Decent value. Nice wine. Good service. No waiting. Bar area looked good. Dinner was good but not great. 11 bucks for a burger and chips. Nice place for a couples dinner.

We just ran out for Sunday brunch, so we weren't dressed up like all the church-goers we saw. We originally went to Mezza Luna because the wait at Another Broken Egg was crazy. I had never heard of Mezza Luna before. As soon as we walked in, both my partner and I felt like everyone was watching us. I felt that $17 for a small buffet (fruit, granola, salad, shrimp, eggs) was way overpriced. I went to look at the buffet and watched five waiters/bartenders/chefs turn and stare at me as I walked back to the table. My partner noticed this as well. I got the mushroom and fontina omelet, and I was not very impressed. The food, though, was minor compared to how uncomfortable we were. We felt looked down upon because of how we were dressed (running shorts, baseball cap, T-shirt) and how we looked. I don't think we will be driving to Jones Valley from Madison for anything but Another Broken Egg.

Wonderful meal! The carmelized onions & chips and the baked feta appetizers were fantastic. The lasagna was served in a skillet and was excellent. The Scottish salmon was the best salmon I ever tasted. For desserts we had the Italian donuts with gelato and canoli with chocolate mousse filling. The dessert took a few extra minutes to arrive but well worth the wait! Overall a 9.99 out of 10 meal.

I've eaten here 3 times in the past 2 months and can't say enough good things about this restaurant! I'd like to give a shout out to the bartenders, especially TJ. They know their booze, they know the wine list and are all around fantastic. Highly recommend listening to them if you're unsure about what to drink with your meal or even just want to drink. Service wise, fantastic! The servers really know their food and are attentive but not smothering. Food. I'm a fiend for trout. I've had different sides each time and really enjoyed it. So, if you've not been, go now! Enjoy!

When a friend recommended the place to us, we went online to check the menu and wasn't very impressed but decided to give it a try anyway. Glad we did cos now we have another restaurant to entertain besides Pauli's, Connors, Ruth's Chris, Cotton Row and Franklin some number. There are lots more items besides those listed online. Food was better than average in Huntsville. Give it a try if you're tired of the others and want to try a new place that is not a chain restaurant or BBQ

Our favorite in Huntsville. Great bar and fantastic food. Real wood fired oven for pizzas. No standard pepporoni here, they have several very unusual pizzas that are really good. Give them all a try. Wood fired grill for steaks and fish. Fish - they do the absolutely best job on a daily fresh fish special. Always fantastic.

In a town where the food offerings can be less than fantastic, Mezza Luna stands out as a thoughtful and slightly quirky establishment with undeniably delicious food. The entrees are among the best in town, the wine list is moderately-sized but excellent, and the service is everything you could want. Reservations are taken for large parties, but not for small tables; regardless, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. I've had a few of the appetizers at Mezza Luna; there's a dip of marinara sauce and feta cheese that has become an absolute favorite. Even the complementary bread and olive oil has a shaving of good parmesan cheese instead of black pepper; it's a little quirk that I think wakes your palette a bit more gently. Entrees, like I said before, are wonderful. I've tried three of their conventional pizzas, one of their piadine (more on that in a second) and two of the conventional entrees. On different days and different times, with different faces in the kitchen, the quality of the food is constant. Pizzas range from a not-so-standard cheese pizza with fontina and red chiles through taleggio cheese and wild mushrooms to a pizza that appears to have every kind of cured meat in the world. The piadines are thin pizzas folded over a salad; it sounds a little odd, but turns out to be really good. I've tried the lamb and the quail entrees; both were excellent, if perhaps less filling than the pizzas. The lamb in particular was cooked perfectly - an unusual thing to find anywhere, much less in Huntsville. Desserts are a bit lackluster, but give them some time; I'm betting that the fall offerings will be better than the summer. The alcohol situation is reasonable. There's a full liquor bar, but no beers on tap. The wine list is about a page long and has at least six varietals of wine I'd never heard of, specializing in unusual Italian offerings. There's a wonderful white wine, Bastianich (for Lydia Bastianich, the Italian celebrity chef) that's from a vineyard held jointly by her and Mario Batali. I had an excellent red last night with the lamb that I'm afraid I've already forgotten. The servers are mostly willing to help with wine pairings and don't seem interested in merely upselling. I've never had even remotely bad service at Mezza Luna. The hostesses are friendly (there are only two of them), the water and bread guys are fast, and every server has a wonderful personality. On my first visit, I was completely unable to decide what I wanted to eat and asked the server just to bring something good. Although I half-expected to see the most expensive dish on the menu on my table, I instead got a piadine of moderate price; I probably wouldn't have ordered it on my own, but it turned out to be wonderful. My favorites are Lendsey, Carlos, and Laurie; they're interesting, engaged, and obviously having fun. Excellent food, good wine, great service. In Seattle or New York I'd probably give this place three or four stars, but in Huntsville it's absolutely the cream of the crop.

Great chicken piccata, Coke in a plastic bottle. Guess which one I didn't care for? Service was so-so but the food was better than I had feared. I'll go back, but not often.

This place is great. It's been open for about 2 years but we first went only 2 weeks ago. We've been 3 times in 2 weeks and it has been *excellent* every time. They have great food/beverage specials (some that I remember are $.50 oysters and $5 cheese pizzas on Tuesdays, Martini Wednesday ($8 top shelf!) and 1/2 price wine Thursdays) and the food and the service have always been top notch. The burger (this is the way I judge a place - it sounds simple but it's not) is to die for and you can get it medium rare without the food Nazi warnings that most places give. (To the food Nazis out there, honestly, if I wanted to be lectured to about my food choices I would go eat with someone's mom!) Pizzas are great and the oysters on the half shell were beautifully clean and fresh! The place is beautiful and the kitchen is smack in the middle of the restaurant for all to see. Pull up a chair at the bar and watch the show. I'm certain that all of the servers are great, but ask for Raymond, he's a cajun guy who'll take great care of you! Try it, you'll LOVE it!

$19 for a rather sub par brunch buffet... The food coming out of the kitchen for the folks smart enough to order off the menu looked good, but yeah... we chose poorly with the buffet. The staff was polite enough and the waitress did a good job of keeping my tea filled, so we left a good tip, but man... that buffet has gone down hill big times since they increased the price. Sorry, harping, but... yeah.

Loved the ambiance of this place! Showed up on a Thursday and received 1/2 of the price of a bottle of red! Nice wine selection, outdoor seating, and a menu of many options. Worth stopping by if you are in Huntsville.

Service was quick and friendly. Ambiente was very nice. Food was awesome. In my opinion the only place in the HSV area that serves Italian food. And I mean food that actually tastes like food they serve in Italy. Vine card is complete. Dessert was outstanding. Defiantly will go back there.

Went again but this time for brunch, and we highly recommend it! A perfect way to enjoy a Sunday morning. We took my husband's mom too, and she loved it. The brunch buffet has a huge smattering of choices. Typical breakfast foods: scrambled eggs, bacon, French toast, waffles, biscuits & delicious gravy, polenta, yogurt, & loads of fresh fruit were there. What surprised me was the surf & turf. Steak, stuffed chicken, grouper, a salad bar, potatoes, chicken fingers, sweet potato fries. And dessert. Whoa baby. And it's a buffet. And there's complimentary fresh squeezed orange juice. I had coffee too & the service was good. Sadly they'd run out of salmon today and that's my favorite :( but... Can anyone beat that kind of brunch anywhere else in town for that price? No that I can think of. So it's well worth the price. We will def be back :)

Meh! What can I say. We went for brunch. The waiter took a long time just to get our drink order. Even longer to actually deliver the drinks. He sold the buffett hard. It was $21 for what looked like a hotel lobby breakfast with unappealing Salmon. He was indifferent to our table and several others. It took forever to get our meals. My date ordered the eggs Benedict passable but not great. I ordered a breakfast pizza. A wood fired slab of ill conceived flavors on a unappealing crust. It took forever to get our meal and the food was not great. I'm not sure what all the high ratings are for

Went here after church one Sunday. Didn't realize it was only buffet, okay fair enough. Went to the buffet, this left something to be desired, simple and bland, the biscuit was the best thing. To top it off it cost WAY more than this buffet was worth. Painfully paid the bill and got out quick. Left hungry and sorely disappointed. I will not be back.

This place has a funky and creative vibe. Looks like a chain but definitely not. Thanks to my friend Erin having her birthday here I was able to enjoy a side of Huntsville I rarely see. The burger is amazing and the pizza ain't bad either.

This was an excellent dining experience. The food was a cut above. We had Fried Oysters with creamy polenta, crispy capers and brown butter vinaigrette. Unbelievable. For my entree, I had the ribeye. It was absolutely perfectly cooked medium rare. So tender. I tasted my girlfriends fish and a friend's chicken Marsala. Both were excellent. The wine was half off. Our server was fantastic and had an excellent sense of humor. 5-stars all the way.

First time for us at this establishment. We phoned in an order for pickup for dinner. Hubby got their lasagna and I their spaghetti bolognaise. When we arrived home we were quite surprised at the small serving of lasagna, which was flat ( as in no layers) in appearance and quite "cheddar cheesy" on top. My spaghetti was very cheesy as well, very uncommon for a meat sauce. Since my plate was full, I shared with hubby. It wasn't long before we realized how disagreeable our meals were to our stomachs. The price was not the equivalent to the quality.

Come on, people... pound for pound, it doesn't get much better than Mezza Luna in North Alabama unless, you know, you're not really into this sort of thing... which, if you aren't... why are you on Yelp? Anyway, I've seen this restaurant go through a few changes in the last decade but honestly I'm just thankful I didn't have to add it to my list of gone but not forgotten gems (e.g. Mikawa, Watercress, Cafe Lemon Bleu). All in all, it keeps getting better. So, what's to like here? For lunch, just ask for the special. Most often there's a flurry of wood grilled fits from grouper, trout, and flounder to mahi and trigger fish, served over the likes of basmati rice, polenta, quinoa and occasionally a couscous with lady peas. Sometimes the accompaniment may be more at jous, like a delightful puree of pea accented with lemon pesto or tomato curry sauce. If that's not your thing, refer to the rhetorical question above. Actually no... just try a pizza from the oven, the salmon nicoiÅŸe or the Mezza Luna burger with a cab from the menu. For dinner, anything they do with wood grilled vegetables, scallops and or steak will simply not miss. I'm more of a lunch crowd guy, but if I'm in the area for a birthday, mezza Luna is still one of 3 places I'll book. The wine list isn't extensive, but very smart... Much like the waitstaff. I'm usually there on Thursdays because I'm the youngest seated by about 3 decades, but also because the staff is not only knowledgeable but attentive as well. And they put up with me and my cohorts whether we're in spirited talk about nonsense or actually down to business. Also their signature cocktails are not to be missed. A favorite : state of Flux (with a drunken hibiscus in it)... Almost ethereal. And lastly... Deserts. If you haven't tried their Italian "donuts", you'll likely never understand why obesity an issue in America. I could eat my weight in them. They usually also have a seasonal dessert menu with a few staples of chocolate (like the budino, simple and perfect. And everybody else is right... Brunch is great.

I'm visiting Huntsville and I had heard great things about this place. When we got there the brunch buffet was $21 (perhaps because of the holidays???) and it took our server a little while to come to the table. As a previous reviewer stated, presentation is everything and they were seriously lacking in that department. The food was... decent. The pizza was cold, the chicken fingers and vegetables were dry, and the food was lukewarm. There were some high points to the meal. There were some interesting options such as glazed turnips and a dessert bar and the baked chicken was delicious! I would probably not come back on my next visit to Huntsville and I would try a different brunch buffet. I definitely thought it was overpriced to not get steak or a commentary mimosa!

Ok the food was pretty good ... Crab cakes excellent, lasagna blah, spaghetti ok. Wine was old. Service was horrible! Bread was not served - we had to ask for some. Spoon was not available for the spaghetti we flagged down another server to get one. Parmesan cheese was never offered. We went un noticed and unattended the whole time! Sadly I liked the place and the food as good enough, but doubtful we will return.

My office staff and I went last Friday 06/05/15 for lunch and had a very happy experience! The service was prompt but unhurried- we had time to enjoy our drinks and appetizer ( I had a G&T that they made to order at my request with extra lime juice and angostura bitters and my staff had mojitos that they also enjoyed; the smoked onion dip and house made chips were also delicious) and the entrees came out about 15 minutes after the app and drinks. One of my staff had lasagna and she liked it very much and one other person and myself had that day 'S special- seared scallops with roasted vegetables that was absolutely delicious and a upgraded salad of summer tomatoes with roasted corn and beans and balsamic vinaigrette- best in the WORLD!!!! Will we be back? Goodness, YES!!!

Great food, great drinks, great service. I always sit at the bar and have been given great service every time. Chef Jason knocks it out of the park with the menu. Always ask about the specials as you kind find some real gems. I know it sounds odd but get the spaghetti.

Mezza Luna is a great place for Happy Hour, especially since they offer Happy Hour on Saturday which a lot of places don't. Absolutely LOVE their Homemade Chips and Caramelized Onion Dip (5.00 on bar menu) and reasonable and good tasting house wine (HH price is $5/glass). Ask the bartender for a taste before settling on a glass, as they do have many wines from which to choose. This is a locally-owned (non chain) restaurant and I believe the chef/owner trained under Frank Stitt of B'ham. It's lovely inside, nicely appointed, and I found it to be friendly and seemed to have several "regulars." The patio looked welcoming for a beautiful day like today. There. I've spilled the beans (or homemade chips, ha ha!) about my favorite HH spot, so you can enjoy it too!

I'm a big brunch person, so I feel like the grinch on top of these nice reviews. I just did not enjoy my food that much. I am biased against buffet brunches, and the selection the Sunday I went didn't move me enough to pay $18 bucks. Instead I ordered an omelette that everyone but me seemed to like. This place had a great ambiance, friendly staff, and quick service. So maybe next time...

We went for brunch on Sunday morning. No wait, sat down and water was on the table immediately. The brunch buffet was perfect. Pizza and chicken fingers for the kids, waffles, French toast, fresh fruit and yogurt. The flank steak was awesome and the biscuits were incredible!! The mimosa was pretty good, and all you drink OJ included in the price of the buffet made it perfect!! We went there because we didn't want to wait on a table at a nearby restaurant, but this was south better than the original destination, and better bang for the buck, in my opinion. Definitely worth the drive and the price.

Just close your eyes as you walk up to Mezza Luna. Pretend you're not in a strip mall. The exterior is a mere trifle, because you're about to experience one of North Alabama's best kitchens. The service is great, the atmosphere whispers business casual, the menu is varied yet focused and the wine/beer list has been carefully cultivated by an earnest specialist. It seems nothing at Mezza Luna has been done without much thought toward the customer experience from entry to exit. On top of all that, you'll walk out with a bill that won't offend your sensibilities. Basically a very good restaurant all around. No glaring weaknesses. Not one for kids under teenage years. Great date night spot. Get the spaghetti bolognese. It will change your life.

Went for the brunch on Sunday, and admittedly I got there a little later than planned, but it was at least an hour before the brunch ended. Perhaps in Huntsville, (based on other reviews) this is a good deal $17.95 for steak and seafood, eggs, and burnt french toast sticks, but I've got to say I was not impressed. The Good: The flank steak with relish was exceedingly tender, unmatched in quality. They clearly knew what they were doing with the beef. The eggs were great, so I settled on a plate of steak and eggs for the star of my meal. The fruit was pretty tasty, more on that in a moment. The green beans were crisp and pretty. The polenta was creamy, cheesy, and fruity, with ample white pepper if I'm guessing right - not my taste, but very well-made. The Bad: The salmon was the number one disappointment. When I go to brunch, I want clean-tasting, fresh fish. A layer of fat was left on (the silver skin itself was gone), and it was cooked until disintegrated. It tasted fishy, oily, and had more of a custardy texture than was appealing. Anything fried - presumably what you intended to serve your children instead of the "real food." One, I seriously don't get the idea of a kid's buffet at a $17.95 brunch - I expect my child to eat something a little classier and healthier than chicken tenders and soggy spaghetti; two, these items were mostly leftovers (or maybe just way overcooked) or frozen. Nothing on the American menu was prepared fresh in-kitchen. To add insult to injury, the brunch side had the same unremarkable, dry chicken tenders, coarsely chopped and served in some kind of chipotle cream sauce. The biscuits were dry - could be my timing - and the yogurt tasted strongly chemical. The latter isn't surprising, as most yogurts we have in the markets have a lot of artificial ingredients. I just wasn't expecting it here. The Ugly: The spaghetti, sitting in a brown, gelatinous lump. The dried pizza with congealed, cold-looking cheese. These are the first items you see walking up to the buffet. Presentation is so important. I can't stress this enough. I nearly walked out then and there. The burnt items were in a dark corner, unlit by the overcast skies outside. The fruit salad had substantial browning, and the raspberries were simply frozen and unthawed, left in a bowl on the table. The server seemed disappointed with our choice to eat from the buffet. Which is fine, but you don't need to make it obvious. Trust me, if you give me a smile and refill my water in a timely fashion, I will make up in tip percentage for the extra $$ I didn't spend on mimosas. Unfortunately, at our tiny table, the plates stacked up, and disappointment in service set in quickly. With only 4-5 tables filled in the restaurant, and two servers, you have to question why we weren't attended. Servers, you are the number one most important aspect of customer service in the restaurant industry. A little friendliness goes a long way. And by a long way, I do mean deep into my wallet. I'm a sucker for being made to feel like I'm at home. Anyway, it all boils down to my disappointment. Ordering off the menu might be a different experience, but the whole thing felt a little fake to me. Like it was trying to be a little more classy than what it ultimately had to offer. Will I be going back? Nah. Aside from the steak, I can make the food better with fresher ingredients in my own kitchen, and have better customer service for it.

We've eaten here several times now and found it to be enjoyable each time. The few bad reviews seem to be about the brunch buffet which we have not tried and probably won't given those reviews, but will continue making this our go to place. Some of the items we've tried....,wild mushroom pizza, pork belly pizza, mussels and crab cakes. All were wonderful. The pizzas are on thin, crispy flatbread with just the right flavor combinations. The other dishes were also flavorful and yummy. The staff has been exceptional with their service and knowledge of dishes.

Beautiful restaurant and delicious brunch! This is a chef-owned concept and it shows in the food and operations!

Not worthy of their prices. Had dinner prior to movie. Pizza set while steak was cooked and of course was cold when brought to wife. Steak was cooked to desired temp of pink But rest of plate lacked any wow. For 33$. Would not order again. Drink prices were also high 10-14$ for martini or wine. Probably not a return unless price drops

Mezza Luna is sooo good ! I have been here on different occasions and I have never been disappointed. The times i have been have been for lunch and i have only been there once for dinner. I love their Chicken with Polenta in a butter cream sauce. It's excellent. For dinner my fiancé and I had the Chicken Marsala and it was amaze balls ! We also had their seasonal tomato salad with big stew tomatoes a dressing with bacon, corn and fried okra. This was good! Another good option is their Chicken Pesto Pizza. Mezza Luna is a cute lunch spot as well as a good place for date night. Definitely a must try !

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
