If your looking for your standard fare pizza, you will have to look hard on this menu. The staff is extremely friendly. The pizza selection has the potential to be adventurous, however of the two or three I have had, they tend to be on the bland side. It is a fun place to hang, a little noisy and have occasional trivia nights (when we were there). Price-wise, for what you get, they are reasonable however ar not your standard pizzas so some may think they are a little pricey. Would highly recommend.

I love the atmosphere, love the staff and the pizza is amazing. I haven't tried many of the combinations, but I've never been disappointed with anything I've received. My only complaint is that they used to serve a whiskey sauce with their pretzels, and it was taken off the menu before I could run back and get my fix.

The pizza is overpriced in my opinion. It's good but not great. I like the calzones better. The best feature here is the craft beer selection. I love that they carry local brews. The worst part is this is a very family friendly restaurant. I wish the bar area could be free from kids. Other similar restaurants in town have kid free bar areas. I prefer not to have a screaming child sitting next to me at the bar.

Great people here. Really cool atmosphere and a large selection of craft beer on tap!

Staff seemed lazy and unorganized. I ordered an Abita root beer on tap and waited for 15 minutes while my girlfriend already had her drink. When I ordered my beer the same thing happened. I ordered my food and ate it. About on par with domino's wasn't all that amazing. The cookie at the end was good but again not worth the price.

This is a great family spot and the trivia games were so fun! Blue Moon beer with an orange slice was served nice and cold. The wings were tasty along with the garlic bread knots. What is in the dough? We ordered a pepperoni pizza and the toppings were excellent. They even decorated my nieces brownie in celebration of her late birthday. Oh! Our family placed third on the trivia game and won a 10 dollar gift certificate that we immediately used when paying the bill. I would come here again!

The food is always spectacular, but the service is lacking... a lot. Every time I come here we wait forever to be served & the glasses are almost always empty. However, the place is always bustling, so it is understandable, however, I was here the other day & I stood at the front for 5 minutes with no one at the hostess stand. I waited patiently & even peeked around to see if maybe the hostess was helping serve a table. Nope. There was a single person tending the bar & NO waiters/waitresses were to be seen. Eventually I gave up & grabbed one of the guys from the kitchen who provided me with menus & a table. He apologized profusely & assured us that we would have service shortly. Another 7 minutes passed & I literally had to get up & grab a server. Are you kidding me? Ridiculous. I'm glad their pizza is so good, because otherwise I wouldn't be back.

My husband and I tried Mellow Mushroom for the first time yesterday. We ordered take-out and the service was good. The pizza was very good, all fresh, real toppings on the pizzas. The crust was even good, almost seemed like it was wheat crust, but it was still delicious. The only complaint that we have is the prices...they are way too high! We ordered two medium pizzas..one was a specialty and the other only had 3 toppings..and the bill was $43.00! $43.00 for two medium pizzas is ridiculous! Because of the prices, we probably won't go back there as much as we would've like to.

Happy hour brings "cheap" beer and reduced price appetizers. We ordered one of each special: Hummus and pita chips, Spinach Artichoke Dip with Toasted baguettes and Pretzels. Tonight's beer special was $2.50 Lagunitas beers - I've had the "A Little Sumpin' Sumpin'", so I opted for the Czech-style Pilsner ("Pils"). It was crisp and refreshing, great to drink before the meal, but a little too light for the meal itself. It was a one-beer night, so I moved to water. The service was great (Danielle), drink orders were quick and refills were anticipated. Our food made it out pretty quickly (it was a relaxing evening, but we were still out of there in an hour). We ordered 2 large pizzas (cheese for the kids and the Mellowteranean for the ladies) and I opted for the Huntsville-Specific "Black and Blue" Hogie. This sandwhich was incredible! My wife deemed it the best sandwich she had ever tasted. I don't know about *that*, but I will definitely order again. A multigrain hogie roll, with thinly sliced seasoned steak, grilled onions and blue cheese crumbles - all placed together and toasted until melty and hot. It was a little pricey, but worth it. Including tip, our meal for 7 was right at $70. Not bad, considering we ordered excessive amounts of food - we didn't "need" the apps and I didn't need the beer.

We went for my birthday. We've eaten at several Magic Mushrooms, in several states. This one has the best food, by far. I wish the beer selection was more extensive but we worked with what was offered. It was a little louder tonight because of trivia, but all in all was a good time.

My husband and I come here almost every Friday for their great specials and delicious pizza. The food is tasty and the location right in providence is wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good pizza and a great laid back fun atmosphere. Food 5/5: we always order the ceasar pizza. Salad on pizza may sound weird, but in this case it is amazing. The flavor is to die for with the perfect mix of feta and a potent ceasar dressing toned down by a well made pesto base. The Cajun pizza is also worth recommending. Additionally, the pretzels are good if you're looking for an appetizer. Service 5/5: service here is always friendly, attentive and quick. The pizza takes a while to cook, but the staff makes up for that by keeping your drinks full and the pizza is brought out the minute it's out of the oven. Atmosphere 4/5: downtown providence is a great location, laid back and fun. Perfect for families or getting together with friends. Bonus: they have beer blends that are definitely worth trying! I recommend the snake bite if you like ciders/light beers and the black velvetine if you're a guiness drinker!

We went for a casual supper sans kids. Craving the awesome pretzels, I couldn't wait for the waitress to come take our drink order so I could sneak in my pretzel order as well. My husband and I had enough time to have an entire discussion, argue over two points, debate on each point, clarify facts, come to a resolution, and start a whole new discussion with no sight of a server at our table. So we left. We moved over to Sam and Greg's on Hughes Drive. Wouldn't you know... They have amazing cheesy bread knots. The service was awesome, and the food was on point. Mellow Who?

Not the best Mellow Mushroom I've been to, but there's never one that isn't delicious. I always start off the a small order of the parmesan-garlic pretzels to share. If I'm not splitting with someone, I get a personal size gluten free crust with parmesan, turkey, and green pepper. The oddest combination, but the lightest pizza I've ever had. It's awesome!

Amazing pizza. Fast friendly service. Great beer selection at this location. A lot on draft. Great area to eat and drink. I visit mellow every time I'm in huntsville. I recommend to any pizza lover.

It has been a while since I've had truly good pizza. I had heard some pretty bad things about this restaurant, however I learned that this is quite the opposite. The place has a nice and warm atmphere which follows a whole space theme. ( I liked it alot, maybe my love of space and the whole art style they have going on made me love it more) the staff was nice and friendly, very friendly. The night I was there was the 4th or July and it was very busy. Despite that fact it too 10 mins for a table and about 20 for my pizza.... So over all I had a wonderful experience in a great environment with nice friendly staff members and tasty food.

We were greeted with a smile and promptly seated. Waitress was nice and attentive. Loved the gluten free options... I chose the white mushroom pizza. So yummy. They messed up my husband's calzone order. Accidents happen. We were fine, but they wouldn't let us leave without making it right. So impressed with our service tonight. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in Huntsville.

Mellow Mushroom is great. I've never had anything bad here. I've only eaten at this location once, but the food/service was great. The hummus was warm and delicious as were the pita chips they bring with it. The hoagies were also very good. I've had pizza, calzones and hoagies from Mellow Mushroom and they've all been delicious.

Huntsville now has vegan pizza! Amazing things happen when you leave for eight years. I thought the pizza here was wonderful. I live in Philly, so my standards for pizza in general and vegan pizza in particular are fairly high. The crust here is very good, and I loved the topping choices, which included a variety of vegetables, tofu, tempeh, and Daiya cheese. (There are also meat and dairy toppings, of course.) I got mine with garlic and olive oil instead of tomato sauce, plus tempeh, broccoli, roma tomatoes, and Daiya cheese. It turned out to be a great combination, although they could have been more generous with the broccoli. The tempeh was nicely marinated, which was impressive, especially in an area where surely most people are not familiar with this food. The only really negative thing I can say about the place is that the dining area was overly air conditioned, making it downright chilly on a day that was already quite cool.

A solid 3 star kinda place. I had been recommended this place on a previous visit to Huntsville but they close early on Sundays! Ate a late lunch with a co-worker and the food was good and tasty and had very reasonable prices. I liked their selection of salads (big and small sizes) and had an interesting assortment of specialty pizzas. We settled on the muffuleta pizza and cleaned our plates! Space is bright, open and airy. We there about 1-2pm so the initial lunch crowd had tapered off, so service was prompt. Will definitely come back here when in Huntsville in the future...

Sorry, I wanted to love it...service was great and relatively quick, given the packed-out nature of the restaurant. Atmos was great, if a bit loud for conversation. Love the decor, the little laser lights, all that. But my Italian sausage pizza with extra mozzarella was relatively bland when compared to say, Terry's or Big Ed's. For the chains out there, it was comparable. So that's a big (-) MEH. But the WORST part...my crust was soggy. Or should I say, if it's soggy, it's not crust. Maybe that's just their style. Well, it ain't mine. I'm trying Tony's next. Any area with KaLou's in it can't be all that bad.

Yay, Mellow Mushroom is finally in Huntsville! Well, if you follow my reviews, you know I don't rate chain restaurants unless I see anything worth noting. (Otherwise, you'll get reviews like "Huntsville Mellow Mushroom features the typical Mellow Mushroom menu, typical casual atmosphere, and the typical colorful decors." ) For this particular Mellow Mushroom, it is always packed, but parking in the Providence is not a problem. Seating takes a while, and the service is on the slow side, but servers are typically friendly.

Some of the better pizza in Huntsville. Depending on time they get really busy and don't accept phone orders so be aware. Great pizza with fresh ingredients, my mom doesn't do tomatoes so their white pizza with olive oil crust is a winner. Good service both for pickup or sit down. Nice place for families too. Close to the house so always an option. Good menu and vegetarian friendly.

The atmosphere was very cool, I wish we had a place like it up north. Food was surprisingly good. I went for the house calzone and the the 'lil caesar salad which wasn't so little. I wish I had tried this place sooner and will repeat when I come back.

  • Mindy L.

I have been to several MM in different cities. This one is probably one of the worst. The salad wasn't fresh at all. The lettuce was brown, and honestly just wasn't appealing. The calzone, however, was pretty good. It is defintely sharing size. My husband, did enjoy his selection of beer. Service was decent, but not really worh going back.

Some of the best pizza crust i've ever had! Wide selection of beers on tap and in bottles. Great appetizers. What more could anyone ask for?

Pizza so good that I chowed down the crust! Truth be told, I am not a pizza connoisseur (Asian fusion is my game), but the pizzas here were filling in a wholesome, content sort of way without being heavy or greasy. That makes it a winner in my book. Lively scene, cute decor, reasonable price, and VERY friendly service. Of course, I was in good company with and had a really fun time, so that helps. When I first read the sign I thought it had to do with good ol' hippie culture, since, you know, "mushrooms" and "mellow". But no psychedelic hallucinations afterwards! Or was there? I vaguely remember seeing a few babies dancing on the sidewalk outside...

The pizza here is excellent. I am actually eating "The Philosopher" right now as I type this out. The ingredients seem to be superior to those I've had anywhere else. They don't taste like they've been in a box for 3 months at the bottom of a freezer. The crust is outstanding as well. It is crisp, chewy, and flavorful. It's not like the cardboard crust you get from Papa Johns or Dominos, but at the same time its not the nasty grease fest you get from pizza hut. It is a very balanced pizza. I'd like to make a not about the service though.. I've only ever gotten take out, but the hostesses seem very aloof and not focused on work so much as they are playing with each other. My first time in I was told to pick up my order "around the corner" - not knowing really where to go in particular as "around the corner" is a very vague description I just asked random people in the kitchen where I should be - the back-of-the-house staff directed me to the proper place with less attitude than the hostesses gave me. Hurray for the kitchen crew!

Too much hype not enough yum. Go to Tony's Little Italy instead.

  • Chris T.

Attempts to cash in on faux-hippie culture aside, the pizza here is a bit better than you'll find in the chain desert of Huntsville. My compadres and I had the philosopher's pie (a classic olive oil based pizza topped with several types of cheese, steak, shrooms, olives, and artichokes) and it was well prepared and cooked. I probably wouldn't go here again, though, because Sam and Greg's is much better.

Best pizza in Huntsville. We had the House Special Pizza and the White Pizza, both were excellent. The crust was so good. Service was very slow, however, it is a great place just to hang out. They have live music on Wed night. Definitely will go back.

I can't help it, but I love the Mellow Mushroom. While I normally shy away from chain restaurants, especially pizza places, the Providence Place Mellow Mushroom is one that I will frequent often. The food is fresh and always prepared well. They have one of the largest selections of drafts in the area. The best is the Providence location, which offers a nice walking neighborhood, that while a bit expensive for the area, reminds me of the Northeast Neighborhoods I grew up in.

I dined here this evening (Sept 20, 2013) with my two kids. I was impressed with the beer list, which is very extensive, but that is the only thing that impressed me. I had "the works" pizza and found it quite bland. The crust was tasteless and the sauce lacked the "zip" I expected in such a relatively pricy pie. Perhaps I shouldn't have expected to find good pizza in Huntsville, AL? I think I'll go for the BBQ tomorrow.

  • CJ L.

I really enjoy Mellow Mushroom pizza. The crust is especially good. My favorite is the Philosophers pie (with only half the olives, though!). With about two dozen beers on draft, there is always something new to try, which I like. The décor is in the flashback mode, all groovy and cool. The staff is friendly enough. I do think MM is a bit pricey, but the quality of the pizza makes it a "worth it" treat for me.

Finding it a little odd that in the two times I have eaten at this Mellow Mushroom, I've gotten food poisoning. After trying Mellow Mushrooms in Birmingham, Auburn, Atlanta, and Tuscaloosa, I was pretty excited to try out Huntsville's. The pizza themselves are okay, but definitely not as good as the other locations. Had the mega veggie pizza the first I ate at this location and wound up vomiting the whole night afterwards. It happens, so I shrugged it off. The next time I got the buffalo chicken pizza and it was mediocre, but unfortunately got sick again after eating it. I'm not allergic to anything that could be in the pizza so I find it a little unnerving that this happened more than once. I love Mellow Mushroom in general, but I'm not sure that I'll be back to this location.

Good pizza, best crust, and a good selection of local beers...first time I've found Unobtanium

When I lived in Montgomery, I thought this chain was great, but six years later I went to the one in Huntsville and I have to place it right between Dominoes and Papa Johns. The service was way slower than I remember, and the pizza was only mediocre. The biggest thing that bothered me (and please excuse me my craziness in this bothering me) is that "Free Tibet" stickers everywhere. Sorry, Tibet, you're part of the PRC. Have been for a while, will be for the foreseeable future. I wish you well in your efforts to get Tibetan language kept in schools, just like I hope the Southern accent is preserved in some places, but alas...

Awful service. Ordered double pepperoni to go. When picked up noticed only minimal pepperoni. Told cashier who ignored me only repeating price which was $17.90 for a medium, supposedly, double pepperoni. Pricey and skimpy. Rude employees as well. Don't go here.

Typical pizza and beer joint. I'm from out of town, but my guess is this is a regular college hang out on weekends. But on week night, it was fine for business or family dinner. The pizzas are certainly better than typical chain restaurants so it's got my vote for that. But what really impressed me was their mushroom soup. Has to be among the best I've tasted hands down. Definitely would come back just for the soup alone as well as recommending it to others.

I liked the beer list and our olive pizza was really good (a little too salty for me, but the bf loved it) Our waitress was really friendly and it was a pleasant experience overall.

The pizza is great! The beer selection is just okay. The service is kind of slow, however we were there on a Saturday night and the wait was an hour. All in all the food for the price really isn't that great, but of you are in the mood for something other than pizza hut then you should go!

Great one and two lunch slice specials, high quality ingredients, great tasting pizza dough. Some of the menu items are pricey, and not everything they make will suit every taste. However, I believe this joint has one of the top three pizzas in HSV. Ample parking. Be patient with the servers - the are part of the ambiance.

Gave this place a second chance.....I think people who like this place really don't know what good pizza is.......$19.25 for a large sausage?? I'd expect to pay that in Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee.....but freaking Huntsville? No thanks....Huntsville is pizza-challenged for sure.....but for the money and taste...best pizza is Donato's thin crust.

I don't understand why this place gets such a bad rap. I have to admit I was worried when I read all of these negative reviews after we'd already decided to eat here. I'm glad to report, I was happily surprised. Our party of 4 strolled in at 7:20 on a Friday night and were immediately seated, we were even able to snag a booth (granted it is football season). We pursued the menus and soon met our server, John, who took our drink and appetizer order. That night we had: -Hummus served with fresh toasted pita points, garnished with paprika basil and olive oil -Red skin potato pie: olive oil and garlic base pizza loaded with red potato, applewood smoked bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, sprinkled with chives and drizzled with sour cream and spicy ranch dressing. We added mushrooms to it -Build your own: pepperoni, sausage, red peppers, olives and avocado The hummus was delicious and addictive and with the warm pita points it was absolutely perfect. We destroyed that dish. Everyone thought it was excellent. The red skin potato pie is a very unique combination of ingredients that I never would have thought to put on a pizza, but it worked wonderfully. I'm really glad we added mushrooms to it though, otherwise it would have ended up being too salty. Their crust is unlike any I've ever come across before, but in a good way. They forgot to add the avocado to the second pizza, but they fixed it right up by bringing a whole plate of it to our table. The restaurant is super family friendly and they have a plethora of unique pizza combinations. For example, for fall they're featuring a pizza with butternut squash and pesto sauce. Who would have thought, right? I look forward to trying more of their crazy combinations. I'd also like to point out that our server, John, was excellent. He checked on us several times, refilled our drinks, and rang us up promptly. We'll definitely be back soon!

I really dig Mellow Mushroom. Their unique pizzas are delicious (I love the bbq and buffalo style pizzas). The calzones are very large and filling. Even the sandwiches have impressed me on several occasions. The service can be somewhat slow on really busy nights, but it's on par with other pizza places. They have a good selection of beers on tap, and even more in bottles so there's really something for everyone.

I have to say first off that if I had written this review that night my family went to MM, I would have given it one star. Since I've had time to cool off and think it through they get another star. This restaurant seems to have a management problem. While their food is pretty good, the service stinks. In fact I would say that the stinkiness of service far outweighed the goodness of their food on that night in question. We were given a hostess as a server. She didn't bring our salads out until the pizza came which was 40 minutes after we ordered (which we were sort of expecting given MM's reputation for slowness). The thing that really made us upset was when we gave her our credit card to pay. She disappeared with it for 25 minutes (I just have to say that I'm sure glad I have identity theft insurance). It turned out she didn't know how to charge our cards and there were two managers telling her two different ways to charge it. So the total time from when we got our check to when we could leave was 40 minutes. That is just unacceptable.

    (2)
  • Andrew W.

The selection of beer was quite outstanding alone. I decided to opt out of pizza as I wasn't really interested. It was my Co workers that wanted pizza. I Ended Up Having their avocado hoagie and a side salad. To be honest it wasn't that great and I would not recommend that. But, the atmosphere and the fact that my co-workers said the pizzas were good gives it the 4 stars.
