Overall: Great place in Huntsville to eat some Caribbean food. Try the oxtail and ginger tea. Atmosphere: Clean, no frill restaurant in a strip mall. Staff was helpful, and service was good. Food: The oxtail which was recommended by the staff was flavorful and tender. It also came with rice and plantains. The hot ginger tea was a perfect after dinner drink that finished off the meal.

Had the buffet great value. Amazing Mac and cheese honestly the best I have ever had. Jerk chicken and fried chicken very tasty. Another surprise was the soup of the day it was potato and perfectly seasoned. Small and would not be worth it if you don't want chicken. Try the mango lemonade it was great to battle the heat of the jerk chicken.

The jerk chicken has a good flavor if you can stand the spice. The stew fish is very good. I also enjoyed the plantains. It is a mix of Caribbean and Indian. Has a lot of spiced chicken. Also seemed to have a lot of vegetarian dishes. It s a little out of the way but worth finding.

I take all of my adventurous, food-loving friends here. This restaurant is very well known for the curry goat, and most of all the ox tail. Oxtail is a delicious, fatty meat that pairs perfectly with the rice and the rich sauce its served in. We come for the ox tail, but stay for (and make multiple orders of) the mango fried chicken wings. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing fried chicken wings are with mango sauce they serve it with. Go ahead and overdose on the mango by ordering a mango drink. Great place, great service, try the mango chicken wings.

We finally decided to give Mangos a try. I've not heard anything about this establishment at all. It's been open for some time, therefore I've expected to have heard something; whether it be good, bad, or indifferent. Instead, I've heard nothing. That, in itself, kind of painted a picture of mediocrity for me. Was I ever so very wrong! This place is FANTASTIC!!! We sgowed up for lunch. We chose the buffet. The presentation of the food is in closable chafing dishes. What is in those dishes should be having people line up out the door and awaiting seats as soon as there is room. The Mac-n-cheese - spot on! Pineapple Meatballs - fantastic! Jerky Chicken - I loved it (if you don't like spice, pass on this. I found it a step up from mold) Cabbage - I could not have done it better Fried chicken - BEST flavor for fried chicken I've had in years. The only thing that wasn't spectacular were the dinner rolls. Still, if you're not gonna make dinner rolls in-house, what is being served is not a bad brand. The service was attentive and complete with a genuine smile. I will most certainly be spreading the word about Mangos. You have just become one of my favorite spots in Huntsville! Thanks for being here and I wish upon you many years of success! Needless to say, I will be back. Repeatedly.

Ah...a taste of the islands, Caribbean food at its best. Mango's serves up some decent Caribbean food. I came here tonight with a group of friends. It's a little tricky to find but definitely worth the trip. You have to venture off to the side of a strip mall to find Mango's. It's a storefront operation but don't under estimate the caliber of the food based on the location. I have to be honest this is my first attempt at Caribbean food in Alabama. I was feeling courageous so I went the spicy route with the Jerk Chicken and Curry Goat on a Petit Combo Platter. The Petit Combo Platter lets you sample any two meats from the menu, if you dare you ca go for the full size platter which includes three meat selections. That's a lot of food! The Jerk Chicken was hot, hot, hot. Lots of spice, lots of flavor. The Curry Goat was also delicious but not half as spicy as the jerk chicken. All of the dinner meals come with sweet plain taints (yum), stir fried cabbage and broccoli and a choice of rice and peas or steamed white rice (steamed brown rice is extra). I chose the rice and peas and loved them. Nice flavors. The best way the relieve the heat from my mouth was to sample a dessert selection from the menu. I chose the Warm Pineapple Peach Crisp. The dish is warm and the pineapple and peach flavors go so well together topped off with a dollop of whipped cream and the dish becomes a work of art. Oh, speaking of work of art, you have to see the presentation of the Mango Cheesecake which arrives on a boomerang shaped plate, very cool! I love Mango's, the staff were super friendly, service was efficient, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. FYI, I was with a group of 5 so the waiter added an automatic gratuity to our bills. Very pleased, I would recommend this one to my friends, two thumbs up!

Our first time here...but NOT the last!! OMG, this was amazing! Service was wonderful, great atmosphere, and the food was some of the BEST I've ever had! Loved the vegan options and wasn't treated like I was an anomaly since I don't eat dead animals!

AAAhhhh....I seriously, I am not kidding, waddled out of this restaurant. I ate everything on my plate and skipped dinner, because I was so full. First of all, they have a lunch buffet. I chose to order off of the menu, because I wanted to ensure I had enough vegetarian items to sample. However, my lunch dates were pleased with their meals from the buffet, and they ALL went back for seconds. I ordered the vegetarian sampler and was so happy I almost cried tears of joy. The flavors were explosive. The plantains were cooked to perfection which is really difficult to do! Lots of places don't purchase them ripe enough, or they don't cook them long enough, or cook them too long, but Mango's did a perfect job! I could not have asked for a better meal in Huntsville. Thank you Mango's. Thank you.

Oh.. Em.. Gee.. That was some damn good food. Jerk chicken. Braised ox tail. Try it. Unbelievable.

When Mangos first opened it was delicious! I can't say the same now. I went on lunch today; my food was luke warm. I ordered oxtails, rice/peas this entrée comes with cabbage, I also ordered a side of mac/cheese & drink. This order came up to $20 (over priced)...and my food was most definitely below average. The cabbage and mac/cheese looked and tasted old. My strawberry lemonade was the highlight of my meal! I'm not from the Caribbean at all and I'm most certain I could have done a much better job. It will be a very long time before I visit this restaurant again. The one star is for drink. ((sad face))

I travel to Huntsville a couple times per year. Always try to eat at least once here. I love West Indian food. Many times it's really heavy, greasy, with poor cuts if meat. NOT at Mangos. Very good cuts of meat, not greasy or heavy. Some of the best West Indian food this side of Grenada.

  • Paul T.

The food tasted pretty good, after cooking for 90 sec in the microwave... The roti that we ordered was not even close to the Surinamese roti that I really like to eat. The portion is very small in Huntsville standards with only two drumsticks and a couple of potatoes. More importantly, the chicken was not fully cooked... The sauce was good though. But, disappointing experience overall.

Great food but very slow service. For vegetarians, try the vegetarian mango chicken. It's incredible!

Glad I found this place! Being from Puerto Rico I am familiar with Caribbean food. This place totally made our day in a recent visit to Huntsville! Location is a bit confusing but after you find the place you won't be disappointed! The goat, ox tail and the escovitch fish are delicious! I'm writing this and my mouth is melting! Wings were good too, but the real treat was the rice, rice with peas (pigeon peas) o arroz con gandules! One of the very best I ever had! Service was great too! A must visit! No alcohol :-(

Love their buffet but a little in the small side. Location is hard to see from the road. Seating, lighting, and service was good. Place worth going back to. :) their jerk chicken is great!!

Wanted to like it as I was coming in from the DMV for business. I was happy when I saw a Caribbean restaurant. I went in and asked the guy at the counter what was good on the menu. I told him I wasn't from here. He suggested the mango chicken. I asked if the jerk came with white meat as I love wings and breasts. He said no only dark meat so he said so mango chicken?? so I got the mango chicken. I'm not sure what they were shooting for but it is super sweet and the chicken breast was tough. I looked on the menu and they had jerk wings and I was annoyed that I could have gotten the wings instead. I mentioned to the guy at the counter that they have wings and he just looked and walked away. Maybe it was a bad day for him or something but I would've come back to try the jerk wings but decided to just wait until I return to DC.

To get to Mango's you have to drive as if you're going to David's Bridal. It's located on the left side of the building. I used to live in Trinidad so I have a firsthand taste of Caribbean cuisine. But just like different regions in the US, every Caribbean nation has their style of cuisine. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way. Mango's has roti on the menu. What I'm used to is a dhalpuri wrap that is filled with meat, potato, channa, greens and sometimes other fillings (pumpkin, curried mango). The Curry Goat Roti was priced like other meals (about $10). What I got was a dhalpuri roti and curried goat inside. That's all. Nothing else on the inside. Another thing about Caribbean cuisine, they're accustomed to meat with bone. In Trinidad you had to specify if you wanted boneless. The curried goat was fine but the amount of bones was about half the size of the portion. So, ultimately, $10 got you a small portion of goat meat inside a dhalpuri roti. Had I known this, I would have asked for sides or ordered something different. The oxtail looked like a nice meal, but the server didn't bring the white rice as requested. Also, we never got the bacchanal wings we ordered as an appetizer. When we ordered it to go, the server remembered the missed order and apologized. I wasn't that impressed with Mango's. Perhaps I had bad ordering luck or perhaps Caribbean food is best eaten in the Caribbean.

Excellent Mango Lemonade! My wife and I split a Mango Chicken dinner, and then shared a piece of mango topping cheesecake. Food and service were very good. I give them a 4 overall.

Went there to eat while visiting family from VA. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas. Since I ate their food, I have been very sick. So just be careful if you eat there.

This place is authentic, homemade food at its best. It's in a strip mall in an unassuming row... but don't let that fool you- the food is deliciously satisfying and will make you want to lick your plate clean. And your neighbor's plate clean. The fried plantains were perfectly cooked... the cabbage and broccoli was awesome... but really go there for the veggie meats. Their veggie meats are the best alternative meats there are in the country!!! If I lived here I would eat here EVERY DAY!

Dined-in for dinner. The dining experience was great. Ordered my curry chicken. my meal was delicious and the portion was satisfying. I got my desert to go. I ordered the pineapple crisp. I went home looking forward to having my dessert, took a few bites and saw a curly chunk of hair in it. It ruined my entire experience leading up to the dessert. I wish I had the energy to go back and show the chef the extra unwanted ingredient. I was too tired and too far out to go back. I'll have to be careful what I order if I decide to visit again...

I've been on a health kick lately, so I don't get to dine out as much as I used to. I decided to try lunch here today because it's somewhere I haven't been, but I've heard great thing about. "Great place. Awkward location." That's what I'm used to hearing, so today I decided to test it out. It's a decent sized joint, but a little muggy inside. That didn't really matter to me as most local joints struggle with their AC in Alabama during the summer. Right away we were greeted and asked if we wanted to try their $8.99 lunch buffet. We declined because, once again, health kick. Instead we were seated and given drinks. After scoping out the menu, we decided to split the Sampler (three meats with rice, beans, slaw, and plantains). Remembering a Yelp review I had read earlier, we went with the jerk chicken, curry goat, and oxtail. Great decision. Plenty enough on the plate to split between two people, or at least two adult women (men, you would probably be able to kill a plate on your own). I don't think I have one negative thing to say about anything on the plate. The curry goat had the perfect amount of heat - not spicy, just that slow heat curry should have. The jerk chicken was cooked very well, not dry at all, and had a great spicy kick to it you expect. The oxtail was definitely new, but the waitress described it perfectly "it's got the texture of pot roast with a different, but awesome flavor." The rice and beans were almost sticky, but not too much so, and the slaw added a small crunch to it to mix things up. If you try to reach for the salt before trying it at all - first of all, shame on you - don't because none is needed - and none is provided on the table. Rightfully so. I haven't had plantains - better known as platanos at the Cuban restaurants I frequented - since college back in Florida. Theirs had a softer texture than what I was used to, but I still enjoyed them immensely. They did well to satisfy my sweet tooth since I couldn't have any dessert. And I was eyeballing that mango cheesecake real hard. Great food. I would be sure to return for the lunch buffet at an $8 price, and it's somewhere I would recommend to my vegetarian friends with the size of the vegetarian/vegan friendly menu.

The best meal of 2014. As a vegetarian, I never imagined I would eat "fried chicken" like this. The taste, texture and look of it was so close to the real thing it was nearly alarming. The meal comes with sweet plantains and cabbage slaw - I will dream of this place. I will drive hundreds of miles out of my way to come here. I will spread the gospel.

Tried the petite sample platter with jerk chicken and oxtail and the vegetarian petite plate with veggie jerk chicken and something else but can't remember lol. Regardless, all of it was absolutely amazing. We have been out a good Caribbean place in huntsville ever since island jerk closed down. I have only two critiques...my water never was refilled and I want one closer to me lol! Seriously some of the best fall off the bone, literally, oxtail and jerk chicken ever! And the veggie curry was so on point! Plantains and rice with beans were extremely tasty and versatile. Everything spiced perfectly not too salty or hot. And finished it all off with a mango sauce carrot cake which was not as sweet as expected and very different than any other homemade carrot cake I have ever eaten but still absolutely amazing and delicious! Just go! Now!

  • David M.

Went for the lunch buffet. The food was cooked extremely well and the meat fell right off the chicken. I can see how some people say the service is slow because there was only 2 people there running the kitchen and front. I say the best part was the quality of the food. Only about 6 choices in the buffet, but very very good stuff!

  • Travis M.

Sort of a hole in the wall in a strip center. No real atmosphere. Waitress was the best part - sweet, friendly and helpful. Jerk chicken and stew chicken were pretty good (small drumsticks for each on the sampler I ordered). The kingfish was well over-cooked and a bit fishy and tough. Not much flavor to the brown rice or veggies that come with the meals. The big downside was for a table of five we waited an hour for our food in an empty restaurant and things were still off temperature and underwhelming. Place is kinda strange. Not going back.

I can't say enough great things about this place. It is absolutely my new favorite lunch spot in Huntsville. Carefully prepared, cooked to order tofu, chicken, or oxtail for lunch? Yes, please. I would highly suggest the mock chicken tofu or the oxtail. I have only had oxtail a few times, but Mango's has shown me a new level of comfort food. Even if this sounds like something you wouldn't normally try, give it a shot and you won't be disappointed. The service is always very friendly and helpful. It's just a bright place to spend your lunch hour. So far I have not had anything to complain about. The first time I went, my table was just a little dirty, but I was willing to overlook that due to the quality of the food and service. On my return visits, I've had a spotless table and the same excellent experience.

It was surprisingly better than I expected. Ordered the goat curry, it was good. The flavor was there and the meat was tender. It was a bit watery though. I don't know if it's from the rice or the curry. The server was nice and tentative. The place was clean and new. Will be coming back.

We finally decide to try this place out and we are sorry that we waited so long. First off the service is impeccable. The owner/cook comes to your table and greats everyone as they arrive. The food is without par. Everyone is a top tier performer. I had the goat and it was out of this world! My wife had a chicken rotti and she thought that the tofu chicken was real chicken! Mind you she has been a veg head for almost twenty years. The SECRET hot sauce is to die for. For dessert we spilt a mango cheese cake and I thought we had gone to heaven. Owner told us that they will start having a buffet menu for lunch in about two weeks, we can't wait. We ate there for lunch and it's almost 8 PM and I'm still full!! Portions are on point. The food takes a bit to come out, but trust me it's worth the wait!!! I wish these folks the best in their endeavors and hope that Huntsville and Madison embrace this venue. We will be back soon. HIGHLY recommend.

Thank you, Yelpers, for the great reviews of Mango's; it's because of you that I went there for lunch today. It was DELICIOUS!!! My colleague and I both had the lunch buffet ($8.99) and the jerk chicken and curry chicken was expertly prepared, so tender it fell off the bone, and unlike most other ethnic restaurants in town, did NOT tone down the spices. Real Caribbean flavorful - yay! The restaurant is small and has a nice Caribbean vibe. Live music on Thursday nights would add to the wonderful dining experience. Friendly staff, and clean. Perfection. The best Caribbean food I've had in years. Looking forward to returning and trying dinner options from the menu. Mango's Caribbean Restaurant is now one of my top picks for the best Huntsville eats!

One Word: Delicious! Great service! Amazing Prices! This was my first visit here. After hearing/reading amazing reviews, my coworkers and I tried this place and indulged in the lunch buffet. You can't beat $9 bucks for the buffet. The buffet had Jamaican rice, Mac n cheese, steamed cabbage with broccoli, chili, jerk chicken, two other flavors of chicken, soup and roll. One Word: Amazingly....good! This is a must-eat on your places to dine.

Ordered the Mango Chicken over white rice to go and it was just okay. The chicken was plain and then drenched with sauce and topped with diced mangos. Saw it with my own eyes as they were packing it to go and sauce was super sweet. I do want to go back and try the other local favorites like the curry and ox tail when I'm back in town...

My father recommended this restaurant after he and some friends came here, so that testimony combined with that of some colleagues at work encouraged me and my wife to try this restaurant. I was a little under the weather, so I ordered some herbal tea, which was brought in a whole teapot. I like that I didn't have to keep asking for refills, and the pot lasted the whole meal. My wife had the mango chicken and I had the ox tail, both of which were very good. The sides that came out were done well, and I especially enjoyed the slaw. The fried plantain was a good palate cleanser, too, so that I could enjoy each part of my meal without overlapping flavors. The location is not exactly ideal. It's tucked away on what feels like the backside of a strip mall and has very limited parking accessible to the door, but even with that the restaurant was fairly crowded on a Sunday when we went here for lunch. If you're looking for a new type of food done well with a friendly staff, this is definitely worth your time. With more established similar places I'm not sure how well this place will do down the road, but I hope it keeps going because my wife and I plan on returning!

I was headed to Atlanta Bread when Mango's sign caught my eye. Made a u-turn to anxiously try this new Caribbean eatery. I enjoy Curry in a Hurry and Island Jerk and was pleased to see another similar place open up. I tried the braised oxtail with cabbage, broccoli, sweet plantain, and rice and peas. I also had a taste of the jerk chicken from my lunch companion. Feedback: 1. everything tasted fresh and made to order 2. the seasoning was a little lighter than what I'm used to with Caribbean cooking, BUT, I do understand the need to cater to a broad audience, so I'm okay with that. Nothing was overly salty, and that's important in my book. 3. the portions weren't huge, but they were enough for lunch- maybe dinner portions are bigger. 4. my only complaint is that the oxtail wasn't falling off the bone tender- it took a lot of work to pull the meat off, but the seasoning was nice. I expected potatoes and carrots and didn't really have any on my plate. 5. the jerk chicken was very tender and flavorful (but not too spicy) 6. this restaurant is clean, bright, and the staff is very friendly. 7. the rice and peas weren't very exciting. I'd go back and try the goat as well as the mango cheesecake!

  • Quinn M.

I enjoyed the food here. The braised oxtail was great. Tasted similar to beef stew flavor with something extra. I had the red snapper last time, but I didn't like the flavors. The appetizer wings were great though! Overall, good experience here.

My friend recommended this place to me and I'm so happy I tried it! I had the sampler plate with curried chicken and jerk chicken. It came with rice & peas, plantains, and cabbage & carrots. It was delicious! They gave so much I had to take most of it with me. The meat fell off the bones. That's tender! I will be back asap for more!

Excellent food, excellent hospitality and service. Absolutely delicious especially if you like mangos. Perfect example of a restaurant focusing on their specialities. Get the mango lemonade. The only negative I can offer is the chicken was a little dry but the flavor made up for that.

Order took too long to cook, portions were small for the price paid, 18 dollars and the plate is half rice. The server gave small discount in price, but was still not big enough discount to match the portion size. I cook better meals at home. I just came back from a vacation in the Bahamas eating real Caribbean food, don't waste your time and money. Go to Target and order a microwave meal if you want the same quality.

Huntsville is in desperate need of a GOOD Carribbean restaurant. I think that Mango's is on par to be that place. I went in last night and there were a few patrons dining in and two groups behind me waiting to order takeout. I already knew what I wanted and so I ordered the curried goat with rice and peas, sauteed cabbage, and maduros (fried sweet plantain). I also picked up a piece of their peach and pineapple crisp. I loved the curried goat as few people can make a good curried goat. The rice and peas were meh... my family is West Indian and Spanish so I know good rice and peas. The cabbage and maduros were good as well but I wish I had a few more pieces of plantain. On the other hand, I did NOT like the peach and pineapple crisp. It tasted too canned and the crisp part was very soft and tasted store bought. As for the interior of the restaurant, it was very bright with Bob Marley pictures and reggae music playing softly. Also, the prices are not that bad as the portions of food you get are pretty nice. I will definitely go back to try some of their other dishes and give more feedback. You should try it out.

I've been a fan of mangos since before they were mangos! They are really making improvements and the foods are well prepare, hot, fresh, tasty, and delicious. My favorite is the Mango Lemonade and the veggie meat loaf with a side of Mac and cheese! The place is so spotlessly clean and the service is grand! You will wait a little while for your food but don't worry, the food is well worth the short wait for the quality they provide! The portions are on point and feels you up! Sometimes I struggle finishing my meal! More and more people are flooding in and the music every Thursday night is awesome with Kelvin Wooten and Friends! The owners are nice and love what they do! I recommend this place highly!!!!

This was very good in every sense. o The menu was full of good things to eat. The special of the day sounded GREAT. o The woman who handled my takeout order was friendly, with a beautiful smile, great communication ability and excellent knowledge of what she had to eat ... o ... and her recommendation of something that was delicious and fast - jerk chicken - was spot-on. o The food was ready in a JIFFY. Maybe faster. o There was a lot of it. o It was perfectly cooked, and nice and hot. o And it tasted wonderful. It was a little to the American side of Caribbean - not as spicy, moister, and with less fat than you might get at mom's house (if mom lived in Kingston), but Official-ness isn't necessarily a prerequisite for excellent food. Go there. Hay - it's just a little hard to find - the very attractively-designed logo on the boulevard sign is very hard to read. Look for the sign that says, "Caribbean". Don't give up - it's worth the search, and it's not THAT hard to find!

I had heard good things about Mango's from friends in the Huntsville area so I gave it a try for lunch with my fiancee'. It is a typical hole in the wall type restaurant as far as the layout, cleanliness and design are concerned. We were sat promptly and the waitress took our drink orders. I ordered the Jerked Chicken Wings and my fiancee' ordered the Curried Goat. The waitress was very knowledgeable when we asked questions about different menu items. Our food came out relatively quickly and everything looked great. The jerked wings were very flavorful with just a hint of spiciness to them. The meat fell off the bone when I went to bite into it so I ultimately ordered some white rice and ate it with a fork. My fiancee's goat was cooked perfectly. It was very tender and had the consistency of a pot roast. The curry had a good flavor and was not overpowering. All and all it was a very solid experience and I will definitely go back.

Went in for a to go order and it was faster than going through a drive thru. I got the curry chicken and I'm not kidding when I say I received my food in 2 minutes. Excellent service and the food was delicious. I can't wait to go back and bring my fiancé!

A meal worth talking about! Jerk chicken: The chicken was so tender. It fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. Very flavorable and not too spicy. I can't wait to return to Huntsville just to try another dish on the menu. Service was excellent.

First time I went I got things I couldn't pronounce and it was a bust. Luckily I gave it another try and went safe--jerk chicken and peas and rice. It was great! They don't like to refill your drinks though.
