I can understand why the hospital staff and visitors come to Little Paul's, they are a captive audience, and the food here is likely better than the hospital cafe. But that's about all I can say about it. They serve really mediocre BBQ (I had the pulled pork sandwich). Fries were of the typical frozen variety and served lukewarm and oversalted. The highlight of the meal was the unsweet tea, which was just as it should be. Overall, the experience and food is not worth the wait or crowded dining room. Next time I have a hankerin' for BBQ, I'm going to the real Gibson's on Memorial Parkway or, better yet, Smokey's BBQ in Madison.

Thought I'd give it a try and was disappointed overall with the experience. The atmosphere was just what it should have been - little BBQ shack and cozy, that's about as far as I can compliment it. Backyard quality or worse sides, stale bun, and boring pulled pork. What am I missing? The meat, at least, had a little smokey flavor which was nice. The vinegar sauce and house bbq sauce were sorely lacking inspiration. Just find something else for the eleven dollar "large" small plate. Makes me long for even Whole Foods' bbq. Haven't felt this mislead in a long time. Don't trust the positive reviews. Nice staff, at least.

I always feel bad about giving a perfectly fine restaurant three stars. And Little Paul's is perfectly fine. It's good barbecue. It's good chicken. It's really good dessert. They're friendly, the food is a good value, and it's WAY better than the food across the street. OK, across the street is the hospital, but it's still way better. But there is some serious competition in the barbecue biz round these parts. And barbecue is kind of personal. You get to choose your favorite - mine is a little place in Fyffe that only serves a few days a week and has home made ice cream. (We're talkin' wooden churn filled with rock salt and ice home-made, y'all.) So go there - you'll like it. And go try a bunch of other barbecue places in town. Maybe you'll think Little Paul's is the five star place for you, maybe it'll be Greenbrier. Some people even like LawLer's. Oh - and you might try the Thursday lunch ribs at Korea House. Remember to post your stars on Yelp.

Had the pulled pork sandwich with the yummy slaw on top and enjoyed it! The muffins were homemade, dense, and a little sweet. The barbecue beans were dee-lish as well. I think they use a northern bean and make it with green bell pepper - yummy. The potato salad was great as well. The only gripe I have is the brunswick stew - it has potatoes in it. Stew should never have pots in my opinion. Also, the consistency was a little runny. The place itself was clean, cosy, and comfortable with tributes to the art of BBQ and to Little Paul's on the walls. The location is impeccable as well - right in the heart of downtown HSV. Parking and seats are limited, so be prepared to wait a minute, but the quick service makes up for the small wait. I'll definitely be back!

Stopped in here for a solo lunch while in Huntsville for a wedding weekend. My boyfriend was busy with groomsman duties, so I took the rental car and headed out to explore. Being from Texas I always love a good BBQ lunch...but we all know there's a difference in Texas BBQ and southern style. I loved the taste of this stuff. Went with the pulled pork potato, loaded down. Also got a side of vinegar coleslaw and mustard potato salad (bc apparently one potato item is never enough). The sauce that came with the potato was really good. Waitress referred to it as "spicy" ...but I didn't get that? It was a thinner BBQ sauce, vinegar based I think. Either way it was delicious! I also doused the potato with some of the homemade BBQ on the table. It was excellent as well! I really enjoyed this place and would go back if I ever visit Huntsville again.

I personally didn't really like the food. I like more sweet and tangy sauce this was a bit bitter. The cornbread muffins were ok. You don't get a lot of food for the price you Pay. The waiter made the experience worthwhile thank goodness. Im from Florida and i take proud in our food so i was trilled to be here and see what bama barbeque is all about. So far im nit impressed. I will not come here again unless i get the stuffed potato or burger. The ribs and chicken was very dry. The coleslaw had too much vinegar in it. But the beans were good.

Meat was really good; i had the pulled pork sandwich and the pork was very tender. That's about all I can say though. BBQ was just ok. The coleslaw and baked bean tasted like they came out of a can. For some reason, i always think that a good bbq place would have their own version of coleslaw, baked bean, and iced tea, but that wasn't the case here. I guess that's how they got food to you so quickly (a big plus by the way).

Visiting Alabama for the first time, my mission was to try some good Alabama BBQ. With so many good BBQ places to choose from, many of them with the name "Gibson," I'm glad I picked correctly with Little Paul's! Driving up to Little Paul's three-stall parking lot, I caught a glimpse of the checkered tables and got a good, family-style diner vibe off of the place. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by about 4 staff members, some saying hello, some asking me what drink I'd be having, and the guy at the register asking for my selection. Whoo, intense! But I liked it--everyone was so eager to help! I got the BBQ pork sandwich with coleslaw and the loaded potato with BBQ beef. No joke, the food took like 2 minutes to come out. Talk about efficiency. And Holy BBQ! Their sauce was amazing! At first I didn't think I'd like it, because it was really watery and I had to shake it up because it separates really quickly. But after pouring it all over my sandwich and potato, I liked it so much that I asked for an extra container of sauce! They charge 27 cents for extra sauce, which is a little ridiculous, but the girl was nice and told me not to worry about it. I thought the BBQ pork sandwich was good (~3.5 stars). The pork was tender, taking no effort at all to bite through, but was served on a regular burger bun with a small amount of coleslaw. Seemed a little plain. But the loaded potato with BBQ beef was a savory 5 stars! The beef was rich and tender, and the potato was cooked perfectly, with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and bacon. This is the type of food that will haunt my dreams for months! Throughout the course of the meal several people came to check up on us and refill our sweet teas. One guy saw me enjoying my potato and recommended getting it with turkey and parmesan cheese. I'll have to try that next time. This feels like a nice family-owned diner. I don't know the background behind all of the Gibsons, but it's evident that delicious, tangy BBQ sauce runs in their veins!

Smoked turkey loaded baked potato is where it's at! Also their chocolate pie is delicious. Get the white sauce!

This place was just that. A-OK. Friendly service, and decent BBQ. The interior is somewhat small, so if you come during lunch rush, don't expect to eat in. BBQ sauce wasn't anything to write home about. Solid BBQ spot, but Four Rivers Smokehouse still has my heart.

Truly a find. My wife and I came for lunch and the food was fast and good. I'm usually not of fan of anything with vinegar but this place had me reconsidering. Their BBQ is not the traditional sugary sauce but a vinegar based one that was fantastic with the pulled pork and cole slaw sandwich. And the BBQ stuffed baked potato was just as good. Definitely worth a stop if you're near Huntsville.

I ordered the three meat sampler with baby backs, pulled pork and brisket. Vinegar slaw and baked beans on the side. I couldn't detect any smoke on any of the meat. No smoke ring on the brisket. I could cook this level of BBQ in my kitchen oven or crockpot! I hoped the sauce would have helped it out but it was just average and the hot version wasn't hot. But it is a hole in the wall place so the food was appropriate for the venue.

I've found this to be one of the best BBQ places in Huntsville. Good friendly service and really good pork sandwiches. It's located right across the street from the hospital, so the clientele is mainly hospital workers, cops, and locals in the know. The pork sandwich with slaw is almost perfect and their sauce is really good. Baked beans and potato salad are also real good. The name Gibson apparently carries alot of weight in Huntsville when it comes to BBQ and little Paul is related in one way or the other. Not to be confused with Gibson's or Big Bob Gibson's. All different places. Good spot to stop at on a Saturday when it's a little slower downtown.

I was surprised to find this little spot as I drove by (starving!). I enjoyed the banter and service of the wait staff. I did enjoy my pork plate, but do prefer Lawler's (and I recommend this one over the Gibson's on Jordan Lane at Bob Wallace - or is it the other way around?). Wouldn't mind stopping in again some time - espcially if one of the front parking spots is open. ;)

Pretty good BBQ! Pork was a little dry, but nothing some BBQ sauce can't cure. A little pricey for the portion size, but still worth another visit.

Little Paul's has very good Bar-B-Q, but that's not all. They have one of the best hamburger's in town. Certainly superior to 5 Guys or Cheeburger Cheeburger or any of the chain restaurants. Although I haven't tried them, we have also heard they have very good chicken fingers. Pie's are great! The staff is very efficient and throughout the day hospital employees and visitor are picking up food to go. The dining room is small, but there is usually an open seat. If you are looking for a good hamburger, try the one here. You should be pleased.

Just a little off the chosen path, in the hospital district. The food is excellent and the help is friendly. I highly recommend a trip to this little spot. If you are visiting the hospital, it is the best thing around.

My favorite BBQ in Huntsville. Since I'm usually there for lunch, I normally go with the stuffed potato. Tasty, and more than enough for lunch. There are two kinds of barbecue in north Alabama; the really moist, lightly smoked stuff with the watery sauce (e.g. Whitt's or Greenbrier), and then the kind that is more like the barbecue you find in the rest of the world. As you'd expect when you see the name Gibson, this is the latter kind. Either you like it, or you don't. I like the atmosphere here better than Big Bob's or the other Gibson joints.

Ties with Lawler's for best BBQ in Huntsville. Also they have good pie for dessert! Just don't go to the Gibson's BBQ on the pkwy. You'll be totally sorry.

I travel to Huntsville, AL on business on a regular basis and Little Paul's BBQ is the best (in my opinion). There is tremendous BBQ value here and I usually enjoy their pork sandwich and a side dish. I heard their pies were homemade and delicious so I tried a slice of their coconut cream - delicious! I consider myself to be a BBQ connoisseur having lived most of my life in the South and Little Paul's has great BBQ! They sell in bulk if you are so inclined. I eat here a few times a week when I'm in the Rocket City.
