This is a difficult review. I like them, but I don't consider them real BBQ. They cook their meats in Tennessee and package them and send them to their many locations. They defend themselves as real BBQ, but when there are places around that smoke their meats in the back of the restaurant that morning and serve it immediately, this can't compare. The service is super fast and friendly. Most staff are exceptionally sweet and welcoming; that's their biggest asset. They have several local locations and do well with marketing, with a VIP Club and special offers. We all love a good deal. I really like be everything about Lawler's except their reheated meat. Stop cooking in another state and fire up the smoker behind each restaurant and it'd be a firm 5 stars.

First time here, went through the super convenient drive-through and ordered the Turkey plate with mac n cheese, green beans, and a roll. The turkey was amazing, very juicy and smokey by itself. I added half the thing of white sauce, and a full thing of hotsauce and it made it even better. Green beans were great as well, not overly seasoned or greasy. Mac and cheese was basic, but still mac n cheese. Free drink for military, police, firefighters, EMS, etc. great place.

They are stingy to a fault with the BBQ sauce. So much so, that I won't be going back. You pay $20 for 2 lbs of pulled pork and they give you 2 ozs of sauce. Complain and they just say tough, that's all we give. You want to buy more? Without a good sauce, Pulled pork is just cooked meat, nothing special about that. Go to Gibson's less than 2 miles away in either direction where they aren't so stingy with the sauce.

Massive Delectable Stuffed Taters are the only thing I eat from here. I always get it with the Smoked Turkey! Nom! Nom!

One of the endearing qualities about Huntsville is that you can get good BBQ at the little spots adjacent to or inside of a gas station. Lawler's is no exception. I wanted to try their ribs and I wasn't messing with the sides. The gentleman at the counter was very patient in giving me all my options. I could go as small as I wanted (3 bones = 1/4 slab) or as large as I wanted (a full slab if I wanted to spend the next 2 hours working it off!). So, I went with the 1/4 slab which was only $5 and came with a roll. Inside my to-go bag was a packet of napkin/fork combo. No knife, mind you. And no knife was needed. I put my fork to the meat, and it easily and cleanly fell away from its bone. It came with a tangy and sweet BBQ sauce, which was very good but completely unnecessary. The ribs were perfectly tender, except that next time I'll need at least the 1/2 slab! The roll was a bit dry around the edges, but I wasn't there for the bread anyway. He also sold me on the homemade cheery cherry cheesecake that they made in house from scratch- something about cherries, graham crackers and cool whip. I'll definitely be back for that another time. By the way, this place is adjacent to the Shell station at the SW corner of Whitesburg and Airport. It's not actually INSIDE the gas station, and it's very clean- it looks like it just opened because it was spotless. It has a drive-thru too for those quick pick ups on the way home from work. This place is now up there with Chuck Wagon for me, but for a different kind of rib. And they open until 8 Monday through Saturday.

Lawler's has great BBQ. I'm not a fan of their slaw (it's a vinegar slaw) but I love their baked potatoes. They top them with your choice of pork, beef, chicken, or turkey. Seasonally, they also have Brunswick stew. This location wouldn't be good for a group to dine in (there's only a few tables and it's a fairly small store). However, they've got a drive through so you could take some home without even leaving your car. I called in an order for pickup and easily had a 10+ minute drive, so I was a little surprised they didn't have it ready for me when I arrived.

Ties with Lil Paul's for best BBQ in Huntsville. Don't go to the Huntsville Gibson's locations. They are terrible.

Great BBQ! However, when I went there last Saturday evening, the woman at the drive through window was less than pleasant. Made me feel like I was intruding on her time by trying to order dinner from them. Had to reorder multiple times before she got it right. UPDATE: I must compliment the owner/manager of this establishment. He is the first proprietor of a business that constructively responded to one of my reviews and asked how they could improve their business. While I haven't had to opportunity to return yet, he seemed to take my suggestions to heart and implied that he would implement some of my improvement suggestions. +1 star for actually caring...

We all ordered plates at the office for a July 4 celebration. l got the BBQ pork, baked beans, and smokey mac. The pork tasted more like it was roasted in an oven than actually barbecued. It had very little flavor. The sauce is of the vinegar family, which is something I just don't understand, because it tastes like straight vinegar instead of sauce. I prefer the thicker, molasses style BBQ sauce but the vinegar seems to be the popular choice in north Alabama. The beans were pretty similar to Bush's, so nothing too special. The smokey mac came highly recommended because it's made with bacon. I personally don't like eating chewy bacon pieces so I had to pick around it. If you like bacon any way, any how then you would definitely like the smokey mac. The plate was not as satisfying as I would have wanted for $7. Especially the size of the sides (tiny). I had planned on picking up Lawler's for a future get together but this experience definitely changed my mind. I know there are plenty of other choices for better BBQ.

Best pulled pork sandwich in town and it's served fast at a decent price. I wouldn't plan on staying in to eat though. It's best to take on a picnic lunch or to bring home for dinner. I would also recommend trying the pulled pork on a baked potato if you haven't tried it. Great place to grab a bite!
