Fried chicken was crispy and perfectly cooked. Fried green tomatoes were some of the best I've had. Collards greens were seasoned well and very tasty. For less than $8 it was a great value and a neat place to visit. Everything came out quick and service was good.

Great no-nonsense soul food place that keeps strange hours but makes up for it with good food. Make sure you get here early because they lock the door at 6:30 and close at 7. But, inside is clean, lively and smells of rich, tasty food. We each got the fried chicken dinners with greens, fried green tomatoes and fried okra. Everything came out hot, fresh, well seasoned and delicious. The chicken was crispy, juicy and all around excellent. The sides were likewise seasoned perfectly and tasted great. Love fried green tomatoes! Service is a bit slow, even though they seem to be in hurry to close up. But, what they may lack in speed, they make up for in friendliness. Nothing but smiles and courtesies. That and a perfect glass of southern sweet tea and we had an outstanding dinner. I'm certain to add G's to my "short list" of places in Huntsville to come back to.

It was recommended by a local and it was delish. Southern soul food, fried mostly but not greasy. They cook everything to order so it takes a bit of time to get food, but worth the wait. Place was packed with locals all waiting so if that tells you anything, go for it!

I can't say anything bad about my 1st trip here!!! The fish plate was on point!!!! Granted I'm a lil spoiled and super judgmental about fried corn... And it was good! Not my aunty's... But good! Green beans, fried green tomatoes, and slaw... Yes my greedy tail had a blast! Can't wait to go back for the fish and sweet tea mixed w/ lemonade!!!

Come on, now. Unless something changed, this place is bomb soul food. I mean the specials board had "smoked neckbone" on it, y'all. Fried chicken, cornbread and collards here are spot on. Pork chops? Yes, please.

G's is good some of the time, meaning their quality & taste is inconsistent. One day the food is really good then you go back two days later and it's like two totally different ppl cooked the dishes and one forgot to use the recipe. They have horrible chicken tenders or at least when I went they were. If you have bad chicken tenders that says a lot to me, and from that day on I stopped going there. They do have good punch and red velvet cake, but not good enough to make me keep going back for the food.

An old Huntsville staple..down home style. Hadn't been in years, and I'm sure I'll wait many more to go back. Brought 3 friends for lunch, and raved about what meals I had in the past. We all ordered the catfish plate with different sides, and waited. And waited and waited! The two tables that came in after we arrived were served before we got our meals, and looked like they ordered fried meals also. I brought it up to our waitress who told me she didn't have anything to do with it..really? Catfish fillets were hard and over fried. I ordered hush puppies and they made it to the table when I was about to pay the check..they were also over fried. Collards were good..but collards do not a meal make! Very disappointed, the thrill is gone...

Best meat & 3 in town. So yummy! Tea is very sweet so I ask them to half it with unsweet. My super picky son loves this comfort food as do I!!

G's country kitchen use to be good, but in the last few years has gone downhill! I wouldn't waste my time eating there!

Chicken fried steak, mac n cheese, and mashed tators hit the spot. I can't help but laugh listening to the staff call everyone sugar, honey, baby etc. Quick food and good service, I'll defiantly be back.

Fantastic food and outstanding service. I did eat lunch at about 11:30, so I beat the rush. I travel on business throughout the southeast, so I eat at lots of diners. The next time I visit Huntsville, I will eat at G's!

Pretty good. I got the pork chops. Big serving. Nice people/ good service. Good price. What more can you need in a dining experience?

For really good home cooking in a laid back atmosphere, you have to try this place. I had the fried chicken breast and wing, yams, coleslaw, and cornbread. The hubby had dark meat fried chicken, black eyed peas, mashed pot w/ gravy, and a dinner roll and we shared fried green tomatoes. Fried green tomatoes were _awesome_. Fried chicken was awesome too, as well as the yams and black eyed peas. Getting a slice of tomato and onion with each plate really brought back the home-style plates I'm used to. Service was great, but expect to wait for the food. There is even a sign declaring that they are not a fast-food restaurant, and so we experienced. Food is worth the wait though.

I loved the catfish and coleslaw but not the cornbread. And one thing for sure, one of the cooks made it clear they do not accept checks!

The food was certainly tasty. I had Fried Chicken Thighs, Collard Greens, Sweet Potatoes and fried corn. The chicken was fried a little hard, but the flavor was still good. The fried corn was a little sweet, but I'm used to it being more savory (a la my mother's and Busy Bee's). The corn bread was tasty and comes in a little micro loaf. Overall, I'd return.

Consistent every time. Meatloaf is always spot on! So good... This place reminds me of both of my Grandmothers' cooking. I love to eat here when in Huntsville. Cornbread was a little dry, but since I had pintos and cabbage, it worked out. I hope to be back soon.

G's offers good old southern food. It's tasty and you get large portions. The prices are reasonable too. A few times the wait has been a bit long; however, if you order the special of the day, it usually comes out to you really fast.

One of our classmates suggested coming to G's for a good home styled lunch. So we piled in the car for a short drive to the restaurant. G's is a family owned home styled food place. The following is a concensus of 6 people at our dinner table, minus the guy who goes to G's regularly: Decor: 3 out of 5 -- it's a family restaurant that needs a facelift! Furniture is old and outdated. Not very clean. Good use of the mural -- locals can buy ad space on their walls. That's clever! Service: 5 out of 5 -- Service was very good. Owner knew one of the regulars at the table so he came over and talked to all of us. Very friendly staff. They seemed to work well as a team. Food: Most all of us (5 of us) had fried chicken. Chicken gets 2 out of 5 because, honestly, we've all had better fried chicken! The gal sitting next to me who had the meatloaf gave it a 4 out of 5. Just a suggestion for the cornbread, and 4 of us agreed on it: It was dry and unsweet. Please add some melted butter and a touch of sugar! It will be golden, crumbly, and just the right flavor. None of us ate our cornbread because it was dry and tasteless. Mashed potatoes could have used a little bit of cream or sour cream to flavor it up as it was bland and semi-hard. The gravy was good tho. No one complained of any of the sides: fried okra, collards, beans. Dessert: Have a piece of red velvet cake, pound cake, banana pudding or sweet tater pie for dessert. We got ours to go because we had to get back to a class. That red velvet cake gets a 5 out of 5 from me for its velvety melt in your mouth goodness! Whomever baked it put their foot in it because it was excellent!

Little shop tucked away in as small lot, but was fairly decent on the taste! Have to agree with others though, DO NOT TRY THAT STUPID CORN BREAD! I tried to tell the lady at the counter about how dry they were and she only came back with "why did you eat that with that particular meal"... Meaning, they think all cornbread should be eaten wet or something?? If it wasn't for the delish fried green tomatoes and generous portion of breaded pork, would have given this place 2 stars alone for the comment, don't tell your customers how to eat something and fix the damn cornbread!... Overall not a bad place to eat though if you want some decently priced "almost" home cooked southern meal. Oh, also tried the fried chicken, it was pretty decent, but nothing to write home about unfortunately... Needed something extra to push it over the top...

Their hearts are in the right place, but what the hell is up with that cornbread? It is like a freaking brick, salty and just nasty. It is almost inedible, I soaked mine in the whole bowl of black-eyed peas to just make it edible. I guess it's mass produced and frozen, that's all I can think of to make it so nasty. Fried Chicken is OK, but I've had better, Mac and cheese is OK. Next time I go I will try the coleslaw, collard greens and other sides, I will try the hush puppies instead of the cornbread. But this place could be so much better.

Really good soul food/home cooking. This is the place that I've been looking for when I visit Huntsville. Good southern food cooked by people who know what the hell they are doing. Want to not get high blood pressure? I would make this place your regular lunch spot. But if you want to treat yourself to some good Southern food, check this place out from time to time. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
