First off, this place does NOT like substitutions. All over the menu, the words "NO SUBSTITUTIONS" was printed. That aside, I tried the snack box and it was so small, I see why they named it that way. It was a bit pricey for the small amount of food though. My wife had the brown stew chicken she mentioned the flavor was weak. There is only white rice, which was a let down, and they could have at least given more gravy to go with the rice. I had the jerk chicken and the flavor was really good, blooming from savory to spicy in your mouth. I would be inclined to try them again but I won't waste time with the overpriced snack boxes. And, I will be sure to request additional gravy.

We stopped here for lunch a few days ago. The staff was nice but the food was not very exciting. I ordered the jerk faux chicken and the texture wasn't the best. I didn't even touch the cooked cabbage on the side. The environment was out of date and not exciting as well.

So I found out on the news that this restaurant made a 98% on places to go in Huntsville...after I ate there I thought to myself "What did they eat?" I was not impressed...I had Chicken curry it was dry. :( Didn't have a lot of flavor either. I did try the coco bread and it was delicious, however, I won't back.

I gotta be honest...I was a little apprehensive about the idea of eating lunch at Curry-n-a-Hurry. Unfamiliar part of town, looked kinda rough and dirty, and the whole parking lot is 1 lane, 1 WAY!!! WTF? At first glance, you'll see 3/4 of the space is like a chinese take-out establishment. The other 1/4 is a mini-grocery isle, with a less than exhaustive inventory to say the least. Above the door to the kitchen there's a clock that says, "employees only" (apparently a clock only they could read??), and on the wall next to the register hangs a ginormous lighted box frame picturing what I could only assume was Guyana or Trinidad, the home countries of the two owners. The ambiance inside was about as welcoming as what we encountered outside. Then came the food...we didn't know what to expect. They said their biggest sellers were oxtail and goat?!? But much to the chagrin of our pessimism, the food happened to be the best thing since pockets on a shirt! (For those of you who don't know me, I love pockets on shirts) Two of us had the Jerk chicken and one had the curry chicken. Words cannot do justice to how good this food was. A party in your mouth! Maybe it was the low expectations we brought to the table, but whatever the case, Curry-n-a-Hurry is high on my list. 4 star hole in the wall. The owner said this was their 5th year being in business. We asked him if he had a tip for us on starting a small business. He simply said, "go for it". And that's exactly what I'll say. Considering Curry-n-a-Hurry? Don't over think it, just go for it! And if you don't like it, don't buy any shirts with pockets...you won't like them either.

As it happened, the family-owned (Angie and Jerry Singh) CURRY-N-A-HURRY was one of those places I knew only by name...for quite some time. I made up for it on my first visit, and continue to do so. The wealth of imported edibles - there's a grocery area - menu items, and the bright atmos inside fortunately combine to belie the unprepossessing exterior in this strip mall, situated just south of Sparkman Drive. For the size of the place, the menu here is relatively extensive, and everything I tasted from it (the owners arranged a sampler platter) was two fangs past toothsome, though the jerk chicken and curried goat deserve extra raves. And don't forget the lamb. There are also some nice, empanada-like, meat-filled takeout pastry items, by means of which I raised the jealousy meter over at Theatre Huntsville several notches. Somehow, that just made everything that much tastier. They were a bit on the dry side, however, which cost that star. It was all the more pleasing to note the well-stocked refrigerators within and the grocer's aisle...chockfull of wares such as chips - and I mean plantain - sorrel jelly, and Irish moss. If you can't wait for a piece of oxtail, call or check out the website and plot your culinary campaign. Bear in mind that during the summer they are closed on Saturdays and Sundays; banging on the door and begging won't help. Also, take into account the actual hours, which can throw newcomers, are from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and, after an hour's break, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. With that knowledge, grab your runcible spoon and have at it.

So I've been going to carnival in Trinidad for several years & I love doubles & roti. There are several places here where you can find a decent roti but not doubles. I was elated when I saw they had doubles on their menu. They were playing soca when I walked in so I KNEW this had the right spot.....not exactly. The first & last thing I tasted when I bit into the doubles was grease. Doubles are not supposed to be greasy at all. The chic peas were ok and the curry chicken roti was ok. There wasn't much seasoning on the roti to make it stand out though. I was a bit disappointed. Maybe it was because I stopped by pretty late. I will give them one more shot then unfortunately I will have to take my business elsewhere. The positives: They sell sorrel, curry, jerk and various other authentic seasonings that you cannot purchase elsewhere. The lady who took my order was pleasant as well.

The beauty of this place is that the vegetarian owner cooks the most tender meats by smell, not by taste. Her oxtail and goat plates come out terrific every time. The curry beef is boneless and yummy too. Nothing's very spicy. They also make their own Irish Moss, which I haven't had anywhere else in Huntsville. Favorite side dishes are eggplant or chick peas. For a snack, pick up some homemade bread or meat patty. Note that the shopping center is a little busy with loiterers. If you're a girl, you're likely to get cat calls going into the restaurant. Once, a strange man came to my table and swiped a piece of beef with his hands, popped it in his mouth and ran away. That's a first!

I tried this restaurant for the first time today because it has recently been added to Grubsouth's choices. I ordered the large chicken curry with rice and peas and potatoes, accompanied by a small green salad. I was not impressed and will not order from them again. The chicken curry is served "dry," not in a curry sauce. The rice & peas and the potatoes were pretty much tasteless. The tomatoes on the salad tasted like they were out of season and the dressing tasted like it was bought in a grocery store. On the bright side, there was plenty of food, and the salad had onions, which I like.

I've been wanting to try this place for at least a year, but just don't get to that section of town often...today after dropping off some Christmas Stockings at Christmas Charities, I sought it out! My friend from DC told me this was authentic, good, spicy and locally owned. In these days of our few locally owned restaurants closing, I am happy to find a sparkling gem! I love spicy food, I asked the owner to help me choose...after sampling a couple of options (all yummy), I settled on the dark jerk chicken, rice and peas, cabbage and a salad. OMG, absolutely delicious! I could have lived without the salad (primarily because there was no dressing). The chicken was so spicy and juicy, the rice and peas have the same sweet/spicy flavors, the cabbage was great and balanced out the bite of the chicken. This is a new frills establishment open M-F 11 - 8. I will go out of my way in the future to eat here again!

I tried this place as it's not too far from work. I think the pricing could be a tad lower, but I didn't think it was expensive. Seems like they would get more business if they were on the flip side of University closer to UAH. I had the boneless jerk chicken. I like spicy food, and, although, it's not real spicy, it was what I expected. I thought the dish was very good. I didn't think it was dry at all, and it definitely had sauce on it. I got the cabbage, and I thought it complemented the jerk chicken well. The salad was definitely the weakest part of the meal, but I rarely get side salads that impress me. Serving food out of a hot bar didn't bother me. Afterall, I expected to be in and out. Having to wait on a made-to-order dish is not what I expected from this place. "HELLO!" Did you notice the name of the place?! Overall, I enjoyed it, and I would go there again.

Came in expecting delicious curry and roti and got the exact opposite. The food was not fresh, the roti was microwaved, dry and old. The food is not prepared to ordera and instead shoveled out of a hot bar, that they refilled from a tupperware from somewhere. I honestly don't know what people rave about. I've had great roti and this is not even close to it.

The place is alright. I had the dark jerk chicken. The guy said that it would be really really spicy - it only tickled my tongue. In fact, it tickled my lips more than my tongue. It came with a huge helping of cooked cabbage, rice, and a salad. the salad was a miserable excuse for a side dish. They also have a lot of empanadas available for purchase. I figured i would try one just because it looked like it would be good. I was wrong...the bread was too dry and the insides tasted like curry from a packet...no bueno. will i go back? nope.
