Its hit or miss here. Had the fried oysters (a favorite of mine) gross, couldn't finish them. Fried pickles are amazing. Fried green tomatoes are okay every other visit. The fish is the best thing to order here. But everything is fried and tends to be excessively oily. Corn nuggets and okra are good.

I ordered the whole fried wings and fries. There is no extra charge to dip the wings in any sauce. I tried the hot garlic buffalo sauce and they were outstanding! The food was very tasty. And the time from order to pick up was 10 min. It is where you want to get a chicken meal in Hoover.

If you read my reviews you'll see that I'm a big fan of the local restaurant scene. I try not to eat at national chains. I am, however, OK with local or regional chains, like Sharks Fish & Chicken. My only thing with local places is I expect them to try harder and be better than the chain places. Sharks theme is kind of downtown fish place. It also reminds me of a place I ate at long ago in Selma, Alabama. I could do without the signs in the windows but having driven by another location, I guess that's their thing. The staff was friendly. The food was so close to being really good. I had fish with fries and a piece of toast. About $6. The fish tasted fresh and was a generous portion, the fries were actually really good with a little seasoning, and even the toast was nice. Two negatives: 1) the oil the fish was fried in tasted old. Nasty old. and 2) please consider changing to Heinz Ketchup.. Whatever is in those bottles tastes like a generic version of Hunts. No acid, overly sweet. Gross. A local place has got to focus on using the best ingredients and that Ketchup was not it. At lunch time the day of my visit the crowd was absent. Folks would trickle in, one at a time. At its peak we had 3 customers in the restaurant at once. This store is located in an old, though relatively full, strip mall on a corner, kind of hidden by another building. You really have to be going to Sharks, you're probably not going to stumble across it. I look forward to trying it again but please, if you're reading this, get better ketchup.

I ordered the 6 piece cut and was not impressed. The wings were incredibly small and taste of old oil. I've never had this issue at the Homewood nor the Eastlake location. I'll likely not return

All I can say is RUDE!!! I took my okra back for a refund because it was too greasy and it taste like it was fried in old oil. One of the owners said, "Don't say it too greasy you were late picking it up." Really!! If the owner talks to his customers that way, what would he do to their food. Horrible customer service.

I've had this twice. The first time was delicious. Hot, fresh, delicious. The second time was awful. Cold food, wrong order, and generally gross and oily.

Shark's specialty is anything fried so check your cholesterol before dining. I stopped to pick up wings to supplement our dinner on Saturday night. I thought it was cool that you could order wings "cut" or whole. I don't recall having that offered anywhere else, but I chose "cut" anyhow. I decided on the 15 wing combo, and that included fries and a drink. I ordered three sauces, hot, hot garlic pepper, and honey barbecue. The wings were battered, deep fried, and then doused with the sauces. I thought the batter was a bit too heavy, more like fried chicken batter. In my opinion, there is a difference between how fried chicken and wings should be prepared for frying. The batter on fried chicken is thicker and crispier, so you don't need sauce (think KFC or Popeye's). Wings don't need batter, but if they do, it should be lightly coated because any batter is going to suck up the sauce. You don't want the wings to be soggy. Fried chicken is for picnics, and wings are for watching football. The sauces that I ordered were okay. There was not a big difference between the Hot and the Garlic Pepper sauces. Both were mildly spicy, but the dominate flavor was the tanginess of the vinegar-based sauce. The garlic was only slightly noticeable. The honey barbecue sauce was disappointing. The wings were not tossed with this sauce; it was squeezed on top like ketchup. The sauce was thick and sweet, but not very original. It tasted like an average bottle of store-bought barbecue sauce. Shark's is an inexpensive dining option. I did not care for the wings, but would consider trying one of the fried seafood choices. There are multiple locations around Birmingham, and they have a very nice website ( sharksfishchicken.net ) with more information.

What to say about Sharks? Good Chicken for Cheap! I went in only knowing that I wanted some wings, no real expectations here, but I was definitely pleased with my visit! I didn't want to simply try hot/mild wings so I ventured out with some slightly different selections: Hot Lemon Pepper and Honey Mustard. Location/Building: In the shopping plaza at 31 & data drive with Big Lots, Hobby Lobby, Planet Fitness etc. The actual suite is the location previously the hot dog spot named "G-Dogs". Inside looks exactly the same as I remember it when it was G-Dogs. Has a good bit of indoor seating for a storefront restaurant such as this and has a good bit of outdoor seating as well. Price: I got 10 cut wings (drums and flats) split the flavors in half at no extra charge, and made it a combo (fries and drink) all for $8.59 which I find to be excellent! Wings only would be $6.59. Food: Keep in mind, whether you get chicken or fish, everything here (that I could see displayed) is fried! So no typical naked wings here. First, Hot Lemon Pepper... These wings were good and had that classic lemmon pepper Zing, which I like... but I think I was missing the "hot". I didn't get any hint of burn while eating these. Was a bit disappointing. Honestly since I'd never eaten here I'm really not sure if some kinda of hot sauce was left off or not. The Honey Mustard wings were literally the fried chicken wings drenched in honey mustard. If you're a honey mustard fan as I am, you'll really enjoy these! The combo comes with a ton of fries and a regular sized drink (pepsi product sodas, sweet and unsweet tea or lemonade). Good wings, cheap prices, I plan to return to taste more of the menu!

Yikes! They should change their name to Shark's Grease Box - even food served at the few tables is served in take-out boxes. Except for the overly sweet and mayo-drenched slaw (not fresh), EVERYTHING is frozen and fried in old oil, approaching rancid. Nothing is fresh - we were there as delivery trucks delivered cases of frozen seafood and fries among the scarce business on a Friday lunchtime (?). And the sides are overpriced. My oysters in the poorly prepared po' boy tasted tinny and scary (canned?). After two bites, I stopped eating it. The cheap grocery store fries were limp and dusted with off-the-shelf seasoning (season salt?). The small order of hush puppies were tiny, hard, and tasted of the same old oil. My wife's cod tasted like grade school fish sticks. Service is plastic, styrofoam, and squeeze packets. Two pieces of cod with fries and an 1/8 cup of slaw; an oyster po' boy, fries and a side of slaw and hush puppies was $23.00 - not cheap! If this is your idea of fine dining, you're better off at Capt. D's.
