Food is good and fresh. Owner is very friendly. Wait staff is very, very slow. Had to get up and find server for refills, etc. several times the two last times I went there. If service was better, I would give it 4 stars.

The atmosphere was awesome, but the food was mediocre at best. It was all bland. I had 2 enchiladas and beans. I tried my boyfriend's rice and it was bland too. The salsa needed more of a kick and the chips were kind of tough, but at least they were warm. My boyfriend was not impressed with their Chili Relleno either. We have found 2 Mexican restaurants in Gadsden that are much better than Mayan, so we will not be back

This has become my favorite place for Mexican food, so full of authentic flavor and the Margaritas are awesome!

The staff seems nice, but their "regular" patrons are very rude and act like they own the place. The food is good, I'd recommend it for sure. Their salsa is different from most Mexican restaurants, which is a huge deal to me. It's a nice, fresh take on Mexican cuisine for sure.

Awesome food. I had the Greg Special. The fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Their garlic bread is awesome. Wife had the polio rancheros, and said it was very good.

We ate at this restaurant for our first time yesterday, May 17, 2014. Between the two of us we had the pollo fundido, the taquitos (filled with refried beans and topped with pork and cabbage) and an a la carte tamale. I'll start with the good, the chips and salsa were pretty good, as was my partner's chicken. But that's about as far as the good food went. As for my food, the a la carte tamale was nothing more than a cheap tamale that you could get at a grocery store and smothered in a overly tangy sauce. My water taste like dirt, even my partner said so. And well the taquitos with the refried beans in them topped with pork and cabbage (the only taquitos being served for dinner) were interesting but not enough to bring me back to this restaurant. Maybe my choices weren't the restaurant's speciality.. but on my end I didn't truly enjoy what I was served. In Short: Pros: Cheap food (which is also a con) Chips and salsa were good Partner's Pollo Fundido Was good Cons: Water Tasted Like Dirt Tamales were of a cheap grocery store pre-made quality (def. not homemade) The Taquitos (Something) With the refried beans and topped with pork and cabbage.. sorta alright, but not really.

Yummy!! This place offers a fresh "Mexican" menu partly in that it's not like every other Mexican Restaurant menu that you read. They serve the staples of course but have added a number of items with more of a cuban flair, including plantain. The interior decor is very well done and stylishly latin in flair. The wait staff is dressed in button shirts that brings it all up a notch. They are having karaoke nights. Frankly I think that's too loud and ruins the more upscale appearance of it all. The prices are a great value as with all area Mexican Restaurants. I really hope these guys do well as it's one of my favorite local eateries.

Best food ever!! The buffet was good! The place is really nice! They also have karaoke on Saturdays!! My favorite dish is the Greg special it's a grill tilapia with 4 shrimp and a garlic sauce on top and steamed vegetables around the fish which is all on top of a delicious bed of rice, also there dressing is really good!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
