We stopped here after seeing the largest crowd ever at Lamberts down the street. And 2 failed attempts at getting seated at the gulf shores location. We were greeted by the hostess and quickly seated on the comfy outdoor patio. There were so many seafood choices that I couldn't make up my mind so I decided to go with the mahi mahi taco and it was outstanding! The shrimp slaw was also out of this world. We didn't see much of our waitress after we were served which is never good if your out of water lol. I found the prices to be reasonable and the atmosphere quite nice. I left full and happy and say it's definitely worth a try if your in the area.

Casual. Local. Enjoyable meal Combo steamed platter with shrimp and whitefish--- shrimp cooked perfectly, as was fish, potatoes and corn, alright EVERYTHING in the platter was just right!Mahi tacos with shrimp slaw, greens, hush puppies, one lonely corn fritter-- complimented by a blue moon. My Mahi was over cooked, but it was a small detail as everything surrounding was spot on. Business was brisk, but the servers were hustling effectively. Overall Aces!!j

First off, previously, we had eaten here about 7 years prior and had been DYING for crab claws since then. You can dine inside or out on the patio. This place has simple and fun decor. They also sell Shrimp Basket T-Shirts in various colors and sizes. They have locations in Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi! I want one in the Los Angeles area, please?? When we knew we were coming to Foley, AL from Los Angeles, CA, I knew I would be indulging in these crab claws! I have to say that I had my fill while I was in town, and that is meant in a good and bad way. When were here during this visit in March of 2015, we dined in and did a carry out. When we ate in, everything was exceptional, and really delicious! It was a totally different story when I ordered crab claws to go. We started with an Iced Tea, a Sweet Tea, and a Lemonade. We also ordered the Crab Claws Appetizer and a Crab Cake Appetizer. Oh my word, I was in crab claw heaven! They came out hot and were perfectly fried! Just exactly the deliciousness I had remembered and drooled over countless times! The Crab Cake was tasty! For the meals, we ordered: Whitefish Tacos - they were messy, but good Shrimp Skewers - they were grilled and seasoned well Sauteed Scallops - fresh from the ocean, imperfect and delectable bites Crab Claw Appetizer - because the actual appetizer got devoured, I had to order one for my meal! As we were nearing the end of our meal, we ordered 18 Raw Oysters and 2 combo baskets to-go. On another visit, we called in an order of crab claws and a crab cake to pick up. The crab cake came out fine. However, I about cried when I saw the crab claws. It really looked like I got all the rejected claws, they were tiny and overcooked, almost burnt. Besides the fact that they were so horrible, I was despondent because I knew they'd be the last ones I'd eat in a long time because we were leaving and heading back to the West Coast. :( Dear Shrimp Basket, I am so disappointed! Why did you have to serve these mostly inedible ones and why give them to me as the last taste in my mouth for a long time? I just am in such disbelief! Poor offering! I would have taken 2 rating stars off just for this alone, but I didn't. Next time I visit Foley, I sure hope to savor some excellent Crab Claws each & every time, not just when I dine in!!

Think this place is one of those tourist traps. I had the house salad, hush puppies and shrimp basket. Shrimp were so small I would have thought I ordered the popcorn shrimp instead. My wife had the house salad, fried okra and coconut shrimp and was up sick all night. Not sure if the oil they were frying in that evening was old or what but it was scary and we almost ended up in the ER. Very pricey for what we received.

This place is a must stop for our family when we are in Gulf Shores or Foley, AL. My wife and son enjoys the fried shrimp. I really like the po'boys. The corn and hushpuppies are great as well. The Shrimp Basket in Foley normally has shorter wait times than the one next to the beach in Gulf Shores. The food is great and reasonably priced. If you like good food at a good price this is a must stop. We visit a Shrimp Basket every time we are in the area.

We went during the dinner rush on a Saturday night. Didn't wait more than 10 minutes for a table even though it was really busy. Fabulous service. Had our appetizer (cheese sticks - delicious) not long after our drinks arrived. Waited the typical length of time for our meals as you would expect to on a busy Saturday night. We originally intended on going to Lambert's and experience some 'throwed rolls' but after finding out they had a quoted 2.5 hour wait time with literally 100+ people waiting out front... We opted for this place right down the road instead. Very pleased with our decision.

Thought I would give this place five stars just boosted up a bit. I was craving fried crab claws and I'm allergic to shrimp but yelp told me to go here so I did!!! I got a cold beer and even though they only have plastic cups it went down very good and started with the basket of fried crab claws. You just don't find those in Georgia so I enjoyed every bite!! So now that my bellies halfway full already I opted to just get the crab cake appetizer and a basket of hush puppies to finish off my high cholesterol cheat night. I had the crabcakes grilled so the center was actually saw but full of crab and some veggies. I personally actually love them!!! Hush puppies had flavor and we're not bland like most other places and were handmade and the service was friendly and inviting and relaxing which gave me the perfect evening. This is a little place on the side of the road that doesn't look like much but they get my boat and the next time I'm down in the boonies near Foley I'm hitting them up again!!!

SHRIMP! I have been to Shrimp Basket a few times. I have had the grilled shrimp, fish tacos, and coconut shrimp. I liked everything, but I'm going to tell you, the coconut shrimp is excellent. I enjoy the little shrimp in the slaw, and the steamed potatoes are simple but needed a little salt. I also noticed that they have all you can eat shrimp (a different type eg. fried/steamed) depending on the day. I am moving close to here, and I think there will be an all I can eat shrimp day in my future.

Delicious food, but terrible service! Definitely order the corn fritters and fried shrimp basket. We had a fun time sitting on the porch, but it just took forever to get a server outside and to get our drinks. Appetizers came with drinks (after about 25 minutes of waiting). Food was yummy! I had blackened shrimp tacos (they have a lot of tartar sauce on them) - they were yummy, but I wish I would've tried fried shrimp tacos! Cole slaw was yummy, hush puppies were great, French fries were awesome! Stop here if you're not in a hurry!

I chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration while my family and I were vacationing in Gulf Shores, AL. We were sorely disappointed. The hush puppies and corn fritters were clearly not homemade. Also, when the menu says the meal comes with a fritter and hush puppies, it means a fritter the size of a quarter and two hush puppies the size of gumballs. I ordered the blackened shrimp with cheese grits as a side dish and both were okay, but for the price, I could have made this at home. The service was also substandard. The waitress only came to our table to take our orders, bring our food, and bring our check. She never asked if there was anything we needed during the course of our meal.

On 6 Feb 2014 I watched the cook stir a sauce with his bare finger and then lick his finger clean. If you order anything at this restaurant you should be aware of how nasty the cooks are in the kitchen. Could easily spread hepatitis or other diseases because they don't use gloves in the kitchen (violation of health code).

We enjoyed eating here! We had great fried seafood, great service, and we were seated quickly even with a party of nine.

Good fried shrimp and oysters.....good service.....reasonable and realistic pricing. I'd go back in a heartbeat. The crawfish po boy was particularly good.

The Shrimp Basket is off the main drag in Foley. Food is decent and the have a full bar. Nothing special but good.

Yummy steamed shrimp, shrimp coleslaw (who knew??), excellent prices. Looks a bit like a shack, but the food was great!

5 stars except for charging $2.50 for a 1/2 cup portion of 'shrimp' slaw. Had 2 20-count shrimp in it. Perfect fries and the shrimp, oysters, and fish were fried to perfection. Tender & moist inside. No off tastes in the oil. Good joint otherwise.

Always had good fried seafood here. No frills. Just good food fairly priced.

AYCE has gone up in price and management has obviously cracked down on food refills. We had to ask for refills on food AND drinks. However their shrimp slaw and new potatoes are especially good.

It was good but nothing remarkable. My husband liked the oysters(raw) but found the ones at King Neptune were sweeter(Bon Secours). My fried shrimp were very tender and cooked perfectly. It is just that you have to like fried foods to eat here.

Absolutely fantastic clam strips but only got 1/2 of what we should have, they put them over French fries of the same color, neat camouflage trick but left us disappointed in the quantity for $9.99. The deep fried pickles were fresh and hot and pretty good too, and if you don't think about the fact that your paying $6.99 for a large pickle sliced and battered then its fair. The 1/2 pound shrimp basket for $9.99 tasted well enough but for a place called "The Shrimp Basket" we were expecting more than average shrimp. The Shrimp Coleslaw was pretty good and i can see where someone would think there are only 2 shrimp in it but if you look VERY CLOSELY you will see maybe 6 more. this was in the portion that comes with the meal. The cocktail sauce was average and if you like horseradish you may need to ask for some or bring it yourself don't know The Tarter Sauce was very good and has little veggies in it The condiments that we saw included Louisiana hot sauce (brand) a House brand Hot Sauce, A Malt Vinegar and other basics The sweet tea is a little on the sweet side but I like it that way. The environment is very much shorts and t-shirt or whatever you have on. Sound levels rise and fall on the size of the crowd leaving no ambiance but then we did not expect any. We went on a Saturday the one day when there are no specials, we are locals and will be back but most likely only on "all you can eat" days etc. Overall the food was good, although a bit overpriced for the portions, can't rate service on 1 visit but was fair And finally we did not enjoy playing hide and seek with the clam strips and fries.

Wait staff didn't seem to care and nothing was very impressive. I'd pass on the crab cakes. Just a typical fried food type of place.

Great bread for po-boys, good thin French fries ( important to me, ha! ). Great service- really casual - ate lunch there.

You don't expect much looking at the outside of the restaurant but the food and service was the best we had during our week in Gulf Shores. The blackened fish and shrimp was very good. Fried pickles are excellent. Even the AYCE shrimp was very tasty. My wife plans to go back tomorrow to have the crawfish gumbo again since it was so good the first time. I'm a fan.

  • Karen B.

I agree with others. Food is satisfactory, but not outstanding. I always get the fried shrimp so that is how I will rate it. For the price, it is a good place to eat just don't expect to much. One problem they do here that bothers me is they fill the basket with majority French fries and load the shrimp topside so the effect is you are getting more shrimp than you actually are.

Friendly staff???? I've found them to be bored and blah, but then this a fried joint, short on ambiance and a place for the family. Tables are close together and invariably you'll have a screaming kid next to you. The carpet needed to be replace five years ago. The place is cheap so big families gravitate here. You can sit outside and listen to five lanes of loud Highway 59 traffic if screaming kids isn't your thing. There is only one thing I get here, the Shrimp Po'boy - now it ain't the best I've had, but the best in Foley by a long shot. If you're looking for fried at a reasonable price, go here, but get it TO GO!

Great casual place to grab a quick bite! We both had a shrimp poboy and shared an order of onion rings. The bread was good and the shrimp were cooked very well. The only complaint was that the lid on the ketchup bottle on our table was dirty and needed to be wiped down.

Stopped by on the way to the beach and had a fried crawfish basket. It was great! Service was great...waitress could've smiled a little more, but that was OK...I could tell it was a pretty crazy day for them.

Not only is the staff wonderful, but the food is excellent. The shrimp and fish are cooked to perfection every time. This is the kind of place that makes you crave seafood. (P.S. It doesn't matter which one you go to. They all live up to great standards)

On our second trip to Mobile, my fiance and I made a point to get to Foley and eat at Shrimp Basket again. This time, I bought a t-shirt. While this is definitely a no-frills establishment, there is nothing ordinary about the food. Consistently perfectly fried shellfish and seafood of all different types are their hallmark. The crawfish tails are the best I've ever had, and they know the perfect time to pull the oysters out of the fryer to get a wonderful texture we can't seem to replicate at home. The only drawback is the hot sauce selection. The only two they have are Tabasco, which, while a staple for many, is in my opinion one of the worst hot sauces on the market, and original Louisiana, which has good flavor, but isn't very spicy. I could have used some Frank's or Crystal. On this occasion, the couple behind us ordered the all you can eat fish, and the aroma was intoxicating. I wish we lived closer so we could try everything on the menu.

25 cent oysters on Tuesdays!!! And they are delicious! I'm a regular customer on Tuesdays because of this. I enjoy my oysters with a bowl of crawfish ettoufee. It definitely hits the spot. Don't miss out!

Sometimes I think you have to be a local.... We truly enjoy dining at the Shrimp Basket andall of it's sister locations. The Foley restaurnat is crowded, noisey and the ambience is stretched thin at times. However we have yet to have ameal that was not outstanding. From a platter of raw oysters to coconut fried shrimp we have very much enjoyed our meals there. Recently I took our 13 year old grandson for a dinner just with the 2 of us. He enjoyed everything so much he went outside his comfort zone and ordered something new. Very unusual for that age! I very much appreciate the fact I can order raw oysters by the half dozen and dozen. At times they may be my meal and not simply an appetizer. I wish they served better beers, however the beer they do serve is always very cold. While not a Bud drinker , when Ice Cold with a platter of raw oysters it is very drinkable..... Normally we prefer a good Craft Beer. Sam Adams or?? We have folks coming in from out of state and the Shrimp Basket is on our short list for where to take them to enjoy seafood. Parking is cramped, seating even more so but the food is worthy of a doggy bag if you can't finish it all. Some may be from frozen itmes but they are both cooked and presented well enough to not notice. Our clam strips were outstanding and my grandson is now a convert.

Simple laid back atmosphere with fair or better pricing and great food . The staff is always friendly and helpful and they often have daily or weekly specials to save you even more precious pennies , whats not to love ???

A small seafood restaurant specializing in fried shrimp. They have a $9.99 unlimited fried shrimp basket that also comes with a serving of fries and hushpuppies. The hushpuppies were excellent, while the shrimp and fries were of average quality. However, the service is friendly and you can't beat the price.

We live in Magnolia Springs and eat at the shrimp basket whenever we can and have been doing so for many years. As locals we are particular about our seafood but have always thoroughly enjoyed the fare (food, service. prices), at the shrimp basket. The shrimp, fish, coldslaw and new potatoes and hushpuppies are still the best however, since a change of ownership a couple of years ago some things have change and for the worst. We used to always begin our meal with a bowl of either gumbo or ettoufee which was wonderful. However, since the change the receipes for the preceeding items was changed and now they are really pathetic. the gumbo tastes like beef stew and the ettoufee makes you want to puke. This has been mentioned to the staff numerous time to no avail. This is an unfortunate turn of events as I really liked them both before. If the owners will just listen to the patrons and correct the problem then I will gladely give them back the five stars which they previously so richly deserved! Until then two stars as all they should get. Thank You.

We were looking for a casual place to get some good seafood and decided to try this place. I ordered the shrimp and grits (I ordered my shrimp blackened). I really liked this dish! It was simple and nothing fancy but so tasty. There was a nice amount of spice to the blackening which went well with the cheesiness of the grits. My husband ordered the blackened white fish plate and it was excellent also! I sampled a bite and found it to be moist and delicate with a nice, spicy kick to it! We sat on the outdoor deck and would definitely go back. Prices were reasonable too!

Wanted to check out some local seafood and got this recommendation from a local. I had a shrimp taco and my friend had a mahi mahi taco. My taco was rather bland, perhaps I should have had the shrimp blackened rather than grilled. I added some of their house hot sauce to kick up the flavor. The 'famous' shrimp coleslaw was average. Other than a few small shrimp, you would never know it was different from regular coleslaw. My friend said her mahi mahi was good although it was underseasoned, she would have liked to have much more of the seasoning. The food took at least 30-40 minutes to come out - we overheard another waitress tell her table that they were short two cooks because one quit the previous night and they already had one position open. I probably wouldn't go back - I'd rather search for a better choice for local seafood.

Very good crawfish etouffe and fried seafood. Fried blue crab claws are finger-lickin' good! Outdoor dining along Foley's main drag is a nice change from sitting inside. Good service, tasty food, and decent prices keep us coming back!

This place was really great, but a couple of things kept me from giving it a higher rating. First, the place was Ice cold and all of us were uncomfortable the entire time we were eating. Second, minus 1 or 2 of the wait staff, everyone there was pretty rude from the start. The place was so dark it was more irritating then intimate. As for food. I had the Shrimp Po'boy and it was pretty good. My son had the coconut shrimp and again very good. The wife had the Whitefish with Shrimp Ettoufee and it was good as well. The thing that stood out to me was that it was all good, but nothing was great. So I would say come here on a hot day.

We liked all the food we ordered. Blackened white fish and blackened shrimp in grits were both excellent. All was fresh and delivered hot. Grilled crab cakes appetizer was very good and the sides were all excellent. We had Cole slaw, cheese grits with hush puppies. We loved all of it. Everything was flavorful and blackened was just the right amount of spice. Service was friendly but not the most attentive. Still, all a very good experience for not too much money. We'd all go back.

I had the blackened white fish with steamed red potatoes. They snuck in one corn fritter which caused me to order a whole side of them as it was great. The whole meal was very good. Our waitress, Tonya, was awesome too. She refreshed out beverages just when they needed it without being asked. The meal was served quickly after ordering. We were here just after 1 pm on a Monday. My wife had the fried shrimp basket and fried okra. She said hers was delicious as well. I helped her eat the okra.
