Sweetwater beer on tap and live music is enough to make me happy! They also happen to have a great happy hour. Met an interesting local here at the bar that my friend and I ended up taking with us to the Blind Boys of Alabama concert over at the University of Alabama. Thank you On the Rocks for providing interesting company for the evening.

I've only been here for drinks, so I can't speak for their food quality. The gal who waited on us was great. Super friendly, and gave my friend a free drink for her 21st birthday. Live music most nights, I think. Great atmosphere and decorations.

A cool bar with live music, good food and good looking people in historic downtown Florence. I'm going back tonight.

Scale = 0 to 5 Atmosphere: 4.0 Three flat screens directly above the bar make for a good viewing and easily transitioning of your attention from 1 game to the next. The place is always clean, and the bathrooms are about as well kept as a bar can be expected to. The only problem is the lack of space. This is not much of a problem if you are there during normal hours, but if you partake of the nightlife here (which is a great exprience), prepare to be crowded like no other place. Would love to see them expand into another compartment and double their size. Very small stage for musical guests and I wish they would have more original bands come in and play, but bars typically go for cover bands anyway. Beer: 4.0 Pretty decent selection. They do have some nice ones like Sweet Water 420 on tap, and a rotating tap that has been home to Magic Hat #9, Old Black Bear and Angry Orchard to name a few. Also have a pretty good selection of bottles and cans. Recently got in the Straight to Ale Monkeynaut and that has only upped my opinion of the selection. Such a great beer. I generally do not comment on mixed drink, as I rarely get them, but my wife says she likes their drinks, but there is a lack of consistency among the bartenders -- which they are human, so I can understand that. I assume the goal is to close that gap. Food: 4.5 The only reason I do not give this a 5 is because I would like to see a few more entries on the menu that stray away from typical bar food. But as others have mentioned, for typical bar food, this is about as good as it gets. The chicken tenders are wonderful, the homemade chips keep me coming back, the jalapeno cheesesticks are a nice twist on an old favorite and the burger with the fried egg may be the best burger in the shoals. Remember too, they often have things that are not on the menu. I think at least one day a week they do tacos, and I have had gumbo there before as well. Service 4.7 I have literally been here 100's of times. 98% of the time I have had excellent service, even when terribly crowded. These guys pride themselves on customer experience. Their waitresses are great, but for a real experience, sit at the bar. Every bar tender they have there, that I have had the pleasure of meeting, has been great. Very attentive and treats you well. Overall: Probably my favorite place in Florence. Not just as a bar, but as a restaurant as well. If these guys keep doing what they are doing, they will continue to be the premier hangout.

Nice, dimly lit atmosphere & cool music. I had their jalopeno cheese sticks which were very hot! Luckily the marinara that they came with was the best I've ever had and cooled them off sufficiently. Yum! This'll probably be a new stop for me when I'm in Florence.

It's a bar. Scatter some over-testosteroned wanna-be frat boys (UNA has fraternities?!? What's the point?) and sprinkle in some semi-hot 4" tall waitresses. Throw in a copper-plated serving bar and three beautiful flatscreen TVs all showing ESPN. Just a pinch of old town drunk on a stool. A few more college dudes with their polo collars turned up and "Alabama" hats on. Garnish with a 50 year old couple sipping beers at a table, pretending to be 20 and Jimmy Buffett. Stir while the wait staff flirts with each other. Serve piping hot over the smell of cigarettes. SERVICE: Mixed reviews, but mostly good. The greetings at the door usually don't happen until you're finding your own seat. Turns out she was flirting with the guys in the kitchen while you were deciding to seat yourself. Once you get to a table, I've always had EXCELLENT service. I have to remind myself this is a bar/restaurant. The waiters and waitresses really take care of you. Fast food delivery to the table, and good check-back service. FOOD: Not your typical bar food. Yes, it's mostly greasy-fried comfort food, but there are some stunningly surprising items on the menu: Grilled Mahi Mahi Blackened Caesar Salad My personal favorite is the chicken tenders with macaroni and cheese and french fries. The mac and cheese is very good. PRICE: I've found their prices very reasonable, and to combine that with the good service, it's a good deal. The fact that they get you in and out quickly scores points with me. Come for the food, stay for the drinks.

Stopped in on a Monday night, service and food was great! We really liked the jalapeno cheese sticks and the broccoli cheese bites for appetizers. Good beer selection and atmosphere as well

On a positive note: Sweetwater on draft was really good there. Good music. Negatives: If you have a "tab" going you cannot order upstairs...who in their right mind wants to walk downstairs to order? Isnt that what the waitresses are there for?!? Staff isnt very friendly or helpful...I asked for recommendations/suggestions on drinks...got nothing...oh but she did hand me her bartender guide...what a joke!

Every time we go to Florence and end up wanting to grab a bite..... We are always drawn to on the rocks. Yes it's a bar but this bar has the best damn food I've ever hard in a bar. So good I usually get chicken strips to go for lunch the next day. Burgers are good, chicken is superb, cheese sticks are yummy the first bite then too spicy for me, and the spinach dip is yummy too. We try and go during happy hour when some of our favorites are half price. Oh... The servers have always been extremely friendly and just add to the atmosphere.

Cool place. It's your typical college town bar... with a twist. Although you will definately find the typical college crowd drinking their typical college alcohol, the food is really something special. My wife claims the mahi-mahi is really something to *ahem* yelp about. Anything you find on the menu will definately make your tastebuds happy. You will be so busy eating... you will forget that you came to drink! Enough about that, you really came for the drinks... remember? The drink selection is great, you can order just about any type of mixed drink(including some house specials) and still have a few draft beer choices. So go check it out, college towns are supposed to have good bars right? well at least one good bar.. and this is it!

Went to On the Rocks on Black Friday in the afternoon. Our party of 6 was the only table on the top deck. Service was really bad but the girl was new so we tried to give her a free pass. 1 Star for the service and 4 stars on the food. My burger was cooked to perfection and tasted great. My only issue was the fact that they made me pay more for fries vs chips. A burger and fries is pretty much a standard option so I shouldn't have to pay more. Also, my father in-law's nachos came out 10 minutes after everyone else was served. He was sitting there watching everyone else eat. Not very fun! I would suggest that management train their wait staff and not just throw them on duty. Our waitress acted like we were the first table she'd ever waited on. She didn't have much help and that is the restaurants fault. Shame on them!

Beautiful women flock here. I was here on a Tuesday and was flabbergasted. My hometown has it all one might say. I agree with Diane's review in that this is more college bar vodka redbull night to not remember (or remember fondly) versus a cocktail drinking establishment. But if you want that, you go to Establishment here in Atlanta, don't you?

This is a great spot to go after dinner and relax. They do have good food if your looking for dinner also. Service is always friendly and fast. Some nights they have live music which is always wonderful!

This is a really awesome local spot to hang out and get some drinks. Usually there is some type of band playing, which really adds to the atmosphere. They have great drink specials from 3pm-7pm every day and most of the employees are very friendly. If you're into fried chicken they have a wicked beer battered chicken tender basket!

I love this bar!! On The Rocks has matured as a comfortable watering hole with good food and drink, and unlike many of it's kind, it is still in business. So like any gathering place that remains consistent, for the time that OTR has, there comes an ownership by the community. We like our bars to keep the same staff around for awhile. Breaking in new bartenders is hard work. We like our bars to to be in control. I have never been a part of, or seen any visible conflict. We like our bars to have, well a comfortable bar. The stools are nice and roomy and the offset for the knee area is just about right, until after midnight or so. I have busted a knee cap on several occasions when sloppily perched. But I guess what keeps it going, is the good food at good prices served with good beer by good people. And....... sometime you don't really know the reason why you appreciate something so much, you just do. That's what you call intangibles. ;-)

I will give it a 4 because it is by far the best bar in Florence. However, to name a bar On The Rocks, one would think that a nice craft cocktail menu would be available. Not the case. If you want beer or shots or something with a red bull, this is your place. If you're looking for a nice cocktail in Florence, the best you will find will be at one of those chains with pre-made mix. (Stay home and mix your own) The atmosphere is nice, the name is deceptive.
