Wonderful down home veggies and meats! Very reasonable prices. Staff is great..fast and friendly. They bring you a giant glass of your beverage of choice. Wish desserts were homemade..they are mostly from store.

Going here once is not as good as it gets. Going here daily is. Garden gate is the best meat and three in Lauderdale County. As a life-long southerner, I grew up on real depression-era southern cuisine. This establishment has not lost its first love nor has it betrayed its lineage. Garden Gate has boldly ushered in this classic cuisine into the 21st century. May I suggest two meat offerings? First, try the fried chicken breast. However, you must order the saw-mill gravy on top. This addictive white gravy is more than a compliment to the perfectly fried chicken. It is its soulmate. Soul-food soul-mates (interesting concept but I digress). Second try the hamburger steak. You must order the brown gravy for this slice of perfection. Its consistancy is perfect and it is highly juicy without being slimy. Although the meats are incredible, the vegetables are really what makes this place southern. May I suggest ALL the vegetables? When I refer to vegetables as a true soul-food aficianado, this includes the macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. I picture now a group of steel magnolias preparing a thanksgiving feast in 1930's rural Alabama. They are now smiling down brightly and approvingly to Garden Gate.
